It's still up on gw's webstore here but the site I usually get my discounted stuff from was sold up practically immediately too
>>
>>98370116
I'm glad I decied to preorder yesterday at 9pm pst when it went up on the website I usually buy stuff at. The set was gone by 6am in the morning today.
>>
>>98370145
I'm a little bit surprised because it's coming off the back of starter sets for both 40k and tow, and the discount doesn't even seem that great. I guess people are really liking the new ogres.

God cleavers can do so much fucking damage man.
>>
>>98370213
I think part of it is just that Ogre sets are inherently always great value. Like the old Beastclaw SC was hugely popular even when they were one of the worst armies just because it was such an accessible way to get into the army. You buy one discount box for Ogres, paint up like a dozen models and you've got half an army already, and the new models are really good looking so even better.

I assume it's because Warriors are the primary antagonist not only of this edition but going forward. Medium term they are building to The Great War Against Chaos where Chaos Hordes invade Kislev, to introduce Kislev. So you kinda want your main bad guy faction in all the promo shots to be the most up to date, especially when they will be photographed next to Cathay and Kislev heavily

I have never played aos before. All my friends play 40k and kill team. Which I enjoy. But I am fucking in love with nighthaunt, I impulse bought more models today. I plan on converting one or two of my friends to start collecting and play. Help out a newfag. I am currently painting up

10xchainrasps
10xbladegeist revenants
10x grimghast reapers
1xethereal court

How fucked am I? What shouldn't I have bought? What should I buy next? I would just prefer a fun easy well balanced list. Any suggestions would be really fucking neat.
>>
>>98371327
Why would you spend money on a game you have never played before? What if you don't like it? 4.0 is pretty divisive, Spearhead is fantastic but it's absolutely possible that you won't like the full game.
>>
>>98371342
Because playing is just a part of the hobby. I enjoy painting, collecting, reading. All aspects of the hobby. The sculpts are fantastic and you weren't there to stop me. If I don't like it I will sell them. They were a reasonable price for the models. I will look into expanding with spearhead and painting them next.
>>
>>98371358
>Because playing is just a part of the hobby
>If I don't like it I will sell them
You contradict yourself. But thank you for your service. People like you help keep costs down for the rest of us.
>>
>>98371401
Clearly I am familiar with the game since I play other gw slop. I obviously will enjoy playing. I have seen battle reports and read about their faction rules. I was asking for nighthaunt specific advice on how models and unit synergy plays. What would go well with what I already collected. Your only advice is buy spearhead then rub your jewish hands together. Thought AOS players were better than this.

I think you picked a shit ass time to get into NH, I'm fucking miserable over the changes. I guess here's my rant.

All your elite infantry does the same shit, the book for this edition basically dumped on the gameplay so instead of being a swarm of ghosts rushing in to terrify and nerf your opponent you're now... I dunno, stand on points ghosts, Ethereal court is solid, but the horse guy is borderline useless unless you have hexwraiths (which look like shit, the Dreadblade harrows that look good are garbage) you're hard to kill but not hard enough if anyone can output damage and you don't get much healing or resurrection.

chainrasps are eh, bladegheists and grimghasts are solid but you're gonna want to reinforce those, I'm gonna be real you're gonna need Olynder bare minimum, Crossboos are eh but if you get Curdoss who is also a fantastic model they work together pretty well. (I'll say it, I love all the models, except hexwraiths. Nighthaunt are so god damn cool and deserve better) I'd say if you want to run in boatman is good for that, and you're gonna need terrain and endless spells if you really wanna go in with NH. The army functions but it feels about as flavorful most of the time as a bowl of grule. Also don't pick up Nagash unless you're doing it strictly for the model he is positively worthless in the army.
>>
>>98371437
Thanks! I have heard they aren't the strongest but I am not looking to compete. I just want a solid army that will be decent all around to move around the table. I agree, the hexwraiths look like hammered dogshit. Lady Olynder is pretty much an autoinclude from what I have read. I don't want a faction with such awesome models be reduced to an army with no identity.
>>
Was kinda surprised the new battletome shows off how to paint some new schemes.
>>
>Ogor army set sold out on the official store within 40 mins of going live
Did the Cities of Sigmar army set back in 2023 sell out as fast too? Also, did anyone here pre-order a set?
>>
>>98371506
Post pictures? Is GW finally adding color scheme ideas again in their Codexes/Battletomes?
>>
>>98370861
Painfully true. There’s got to be someone out there who teaches pant schemes which use minimal differing paints. Buying lots of colors and shades adds up
>>
>>98371506
Oh, I wonder if they finally took the feedback that including 1 page that says "basecoat this color and wash this color" or "use this contrast" then nothing else was largely unhelpful. People want recipes, not pre-fundamental beginner instructions.

Skaven should be renamed "Children of the Horned Rat" to be in compliance with teh other naming conventions of the other Chaos Gods. Even Hashut got it right and he's not even one of the big 5.
>>
>>98370325
"magic water" and "dark eldar but oceans" is dumb. The sea monsters should just be things with legs that can come out of the water and onto land, like a giant turtle with legs or giant crabs. This is also so it would be easier to kitbash a Vampire Coast army.

Realistically speaking probably a normal human from Cities of Sigmar, as long as they're not wearing armor, or as long as we're both wearing armor. I'd argue that armor in and of itself is a weapon though. Iron feet, Iron fists you know what I mean. I'm pretty confident of myself in being able to defend against a human but any magical being, unless I had the blessing of Sigmar or something, I don't think I could win that fight.
>>
>>98371935
I think it depends. If they're a hardened warrior of many battles, they would be tough to beat.
I wonder if a regular elf, yes, they're much faster, but I am so much stronger, would make it tough for them to overcome that.

The aesthetic is mostly fine. But I prefer the lore identity of them from WHFB. Eating and fighting were a big part of their culture in fantasy as well, but they also had a big trade background. With the Kingdoms in the Mountains of Mourn bringing in a lot of their wealth through stuff like trade tariffs and toll roads.

It’s a bit of a shame that they have been flanderized to be mostly just hungry retards, but that is the way of AoS lore for better or worse. Maybe when the Last World reboot happens their lore can be given some enrichment that is more than just they like to eat. Both the named characters are big steps back from how cool Greasus and Skrag were both in design and lore too. But especially design.

If only they kept this aesthetic and didn't give him a pin head
>>
>>98372727
Except they did.
Go and read the 2005 army book for the Ogre Kingdoms, then compare it to the AoS battletome. The Ogres were rather savvy brutes. They weren't drooling retards, just primitive and incredibly blunt because they are 10 foot tall strongmen who feel very little pain due to their thick hides. They were traders and travellers, and tribes often hired themselves out as guides and escorts for merchants heading out to Cathay. They would set up tolls and extortion rackets and pick up cultures they encountered like weird, fat parrots.

The head honcho of the faction was a trade lord for christ's sake.

All of that is gone in the Mawtribes. Hell they even seem to be easing back on the maneater/mercenary aspect which just leaves eating.

Seriously, go read the old books and compare Ogres to Ogors. One had a culture, the other is a caricature.
>>
>>98372186
We really should get a Yhetee unit in Warcry or spearhead to wrap up BCR before their targeted refresh. Maybe 3x yhetees, 1x Icebrow (raised by Yhetees nod), and an old grizzled frost sabre to distinguish itself from Gorgers.
I'm sad about the savannah shit because the old mountainous themed mounts were suitable for both Gutbusters and BCR with a different paint scheme. This lizard dog and African rhino shit is a big miss.
>>
>>98371757
We do not speak of them anymore for their association with that which must not be named
>>
>>98372760
Is that a token for an AoR artifact? That's so cool
>>
I think ogres will be popular enough we'll see leadbelchers again but it's really hard to tell if BCR are getting closed down or if we'll see them revived. Gutbusters getting their own cav say the former, new (good) hunter ranged unit says the latter.

I def don't think the artillery is staying nor even if they redo BCR are they keeping stonehorns and thundertusks. I think if it was redone we'd get
>one type of new big beast, named/hero and generic version
>new priest, mounted or maybe a foot one

I also expect this release to be popular enough we'll get leadbelchers back in some form.
>>
>>98372749
Read the battletome, have you? It beats you over the fucking head that ogres are more canny than they appear. They trade, they hire themself out, they even build empires. That was globb's whole deal. They work as wartime mercenaries, as caravan guards, all that shit.
Redd's whole RETVRN deal is very clearly not universally accepted among ogres, as shown by the RoR, the short story, and grell's whole existence. Even morga obviously doesn't really give a fuck and is simply piggybacking off of redd spreading religious fervour to consolidate her own position as the new prospective overtyrant.
Either shut the fuck up and actually read next time or stick to total war

>>98373032
Anon, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and treat your as if you've simply got rose-coloured glass on instead of just being an ordinary baiter.
There's plenty of references to mercenary work (and to a lesser extent, trade and tribute) in the battletome. It also introduces a whole new religious schism and all the tensions that entails, which can hardly be called flanderization.
Furthermore, I feel like you're overstating (over-remembering?) how much the army books delved into ogre culture .I just took another peel at the 8th edition one, and 98% of it still just ogres being dumb might makes right brutes who love eating.
The only thing I will concede is that the descriptions of the geography of the mountains of mourn are cool, and it's something that the AoS tome is sorely lacking due to the lesser focus on geography in general in AoS. Oh, and maneaters adapting to other cultures, though who knows what they'll do when maneaters actually return in model form in 5th (beyond Grell).
Also morga is far from a basic 'hungry and dumb' tyrant, she's explicitly relying on her brood and redd's zealotry for her position because she's not the brawniest. She seems very cunning for an ogre which you would know if you read the new battletome I dunno why you would make assumptions about a character you have self-admittedly not read the lore for

Reworked or not, there is a precedent with CoS where it's rebuilt the entire lore with each book and all the previous literature, articles, etc. may as well be used as wiping paper as they are not even remotely relevant to current battletome lore.
Am I playing it up a bit? Yeah. But you understand the actual point being made because you're smart enough to read between the lines.

>THE SIX FEASTS OF GLUTOS ORSCOLLION

>Early in his sordid ‘career’, Glutos Orscollion travels to the city of Vin Xorxo. He offers to prepare a feast for the city's rulers – one that encapsulates all of mortal life. For five nights, Glutos dines with a different class of society, from gutter snipes to highborn debutantes. On the sixth night, he presents his banquet: hideous, roasted homunculi made from the stitched-together organs of his most engaging dinner guests. While most of the city's dignitaries react with horror, their knight-champion Kyazu – secretly burdened by cannibal urges – is enthralled. Together, Glutos and his new disciple overthrow the ungrateful lords of the city, and Kyazu swears to be the Lord of Gluttony's blade so long as he keeps crafting such delights.

Sorry, I'm retarded it seems. Can you explain, please?
>>
So I've just been learning about age of sigmar, and particularly the lumineth realm lords and how they bind with elemental spirits
if there are spirits of the various ecosystems, like mountain spirits or river spirits, do spirits have their own ecosystem? is there a spirit of spirits that an elf could bind with? or what about like a spirit of the noosphere?
>>
>>98375042
It's AoS it's not really that well thought through or deep. It's more to do with the vibes of the idea than actual mechanics.
>>
>>98375040
S/t as in strength/toughness, which aos doesn't have. There's just a fixed to wound requirement per weapon. There's still armour waves and wards and shit, but there's no making sure you have enough high strength attacks to even have a chance at wounding whatever high tougness tank your opponent fields.
Damage spillover means that damage in AoS is allocated per unit, not per model like in 40k.
Like let's say you hit 1 attack that deals 5 damage into a unit of gretchin, who all have 1 health each. The attack will simply hit one grot for 5 damage and kill him and only him.
Whereas in AoS it'l kill 5 grots, as it's considering the entire unit taking that attack instead of per model.
Both these factors mean AoS is less of a rock-paper-scissors thing, more about positioning and stuff.

Veritas Tales: Witch of the Dark Castle
I’m genuinely surprised. Didn’t expect a stormcast Easter egg with anything in relation to vanilla ware.

The pole axe looks very out of place on that character.
Considering the game is directly inspired by old Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, I'm not surprised to see some GW-inspired designs in that game.
Hell, Solaire's design from Dark Souls was directly ripped from an old Talisman expansion.

Design is one thing, but it's pretty funny how they just traced over the knight questor for his left (our right) arm >>98377176
Both weapons even obscure the hand in the same place kek.
I actually really like the design? Does the knightly stormcast thing a lot better than all the great helm conversions out there.

Lords of War claims AoS is dying a slow death, they eagerly await the reboot of the setting/game with The Last World. They claim 4th has killed AoS in their area, not just their store but in general in the Toronto area. And that the only people buying AoS in any numbers now are painters and people who play Spearhead.

Do you guys think Ogors will save AoS from death?

On the topic of sales
>Nottingham firm Games Workshop made a £261.3 million profit during an "another exceptional year" of success for the Warhammer maker, new financial filings have revealed. The manufacturer of the phenomenally popular Warhammer 40,000 miniatures, which operates from its Lenton Lane business complex in Nottingham, boosted its already-remarkable operating profits by £59.5 million compared to last year, according to an annual report published on Tuesday, July 29.
We are in for some good shit as GW send those two factories into overdrive in the next few years trying to capitalise on this growth.
Bring back WHFB? Why not friend. How about brand new models? Everyone gets new models. You get a refresh, you get a new army, even MESBG gets a refresh!

Alright /aosg/, I have an idea for a /mydudes/ Ossiarch force composed of Bonereapers who function as not only tithe collectors but oddly "noble" road wardens and (reasonably) decent and impartial security for the people and forces that have the tithe to collect. The old Battletomes talk a bit about similar situations and I think a RoR was similar.
>>
>>98378034
aos players just dont consume youtube content.

there isnt a whole ecosystem of people making aos videos, never has been, so aos people dont go looking for it either. aos also pretty much doesnt have video games. its just a tabletop game. you dont need to go looking for signs of doom in every nook and cranny of some clickbait channel

>>98378241
Was it really "the only weakpoint"? I was under the impression that it was more because getting disembowelled is the absolute worst thing that can happen to an ogre, culturally, not because it is a most vulnerable physiologically.

There are both cultural and physiological aspects
It's almost like castration in the way it humiliates and impairs an ogre in his virility/pride/ogerness but it's also the most painful and agonizing death that can happen to them due to them having hundreds of meters of coiled intestines in their bellies, it would take at least several long drawn out hours of agony for an ogre to spill all his guts
>>
>>98378367
>>98378579

Basically yeah. Their skin was kinda like badger skin which is why they could put swords and hooks in it so easily. Their toughness was legendary plus I like that the gutplates gave them a unifying look to a normally pretty wild faction

Shame, I wish they stopped flanderizing Ogres and leaned into more of their culture like they used to back in WHFB. But that's the age we're in now I guess, same shit is happening in 40k lore/books. It's all being dumbed down :(

Welcome to Age of Flanders: No ranged attacks Edition.
>>
>>98379097
I don't really mind Ogres having ranged attacks, those fuck off cannons look cool, but honestly fuck ranged. It was complete cancer when Lumineth were running around full-force without any form of reprieve, and Ogres were one of the biggest victims of Lumineth as they couldn't even touch the bastard.

They are just a very bad hobby shop. AoS has a large amount of players at shops 15 minutes in either direction.
In fact most of the highest ranked players in Canada play just up the road for LoW.
