Just ordered a Manamorphose AND two Gitaxian Probes because they are both optimal in the corresponding lists. and if the hybrid mana rule change went through, I would have ordered two Manamorphose but one of the lists is Jeskai.

I had him sitting in my bulk box, when I was just playing 60 card kitchen table.
Half the group played commander, the other didn't. So I decided to throw together a shitty golem tribal deck with him using splicers that I had sitting around for a bad brew for a 60 card deck.
It could swing hard some time with over runs, but not always. I've taken it apart and put it back a few times. it turn into a bant theft deck, and eh, it got kind of boring.

Shirei Shadowborn Apostles. I liked the flavor of sacrificing cultists to summon awesome demons. I figured having a demonic toolbox for any situation would be cool but in practice it was boring as fuck because I basically just summoned the same 1 or 2 super powerful demons 90% of the time. That problem only got worse with the printing of Razaketh and I scrapped the deck for parts shortly after.
>>
>>98386273
in general tokens can't "return" from zones other than the battlefield because they stop existing when they leave the battlefield, so no.
>>
>>98386177
>what was your FIRST EDH deck? What was the plan the? How did you assembled it?
Grand Arbiter Augustin IV. The plan was pretty simple, out tempo the table. I assembled it mostly with pre-invasion cards since that is what I had and some choice cards from online, very jank.
I took it apart quickly when I realized how much of a target I was putting on my head.
>>
>>98386273
Tokens stop existing whenever they leave the battlefield, but they do "leave" before they stop existing hence how they trigger cards entering the graveyard effects.
>>
>>98386303
>>98386346
>stop existing
So picrel works? Im trying to be quirky.
>>
>>98386346
Technically, they DO hit the graveyard to complete the "death" effects. Then cease to exist immediately, before any effect would potentially be triggered that might get them out..
>>98386361
Yes, that plus >>98386273 would create six copies of the creature. Each with half the toughness.
Shit, I need to do that with Gary...

Vioating Ultimatum
1BR
Sorcery
Each opponent reveals their hand and exiles the card with the highest mana value and loses that much life.
You may cast this spell as though it had flash if an opponent targeted a spell or ability this turn.
If an opponent cast a spell for free this turn, exile any cards that would be put into an opponents hand until your next turn.

Lmao I think we actually need even more hate and more ways to straight up turn shit off.
For hate, I'm talking about cards that go: "if X happens (e.g. an opponent's ability would draw one or more cards), that player does Y instead," where Y is something actively bad for them.
Disablers are even simpler: "if X happens (e.g. an opponent's ability would draw one or more cards), nothing happens."

How do you toe the line between making a consistent deck that doesn't do the same combo lines or win condition with the same cards each time?
How do you balance variance and consistency?

the decks are Temur and Jeskai so no wraiths. also they're spells matter decks, so the cast trigger itself matters, and they don't have any draw matters or cycling or graveyard filling themes, so the payoff is slightly more suspect in the case of Wraiths.

on the other hand I do have a Golgari deck that has Delve and Collect Evidence in it... damn, I guess I should order a Street Wraiths after all.
>>
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
>>
>>98386759
Add multiple combo lines that cover each other's weaknesses. I try to run at least one "fog proof" combo in every deck
>>
>>98386759
you might as well ask how much salt to put on your food. it's a casual format, so the answer is "to taste". some people enjoy inconsistency and improv in itself.

if you want to hear other people's perspective on it you can do a YouTube search for "edh tutors" or "edh consistency" and find hours upon hours of video essayist fags talking about this exact subject
>>
>>98386759
I'm gonna presume youre talking 4fun level.
Consistency you run redundancy/tutors
Variance is up to taste, as another anon said.

I like my silly decks to win by combat or 4~7 piece combos. Combos with lots of pieces break the boredom of "same combo lines" with 2 cards

I kinda wonder how UB reprints are gonna work, if they even make UB reprint sets at all. Wizards will have to pay licensing fees again to whatever IPs they are reprinting and those IP holders may not even want their cards to be in the same set as another IP.

I'm working on a B4 Lumra list to fuck around with in my high-power games. Not going to be proxying, so the stupid expensive cards like LED, Vault, and friends are off limits for my ramp. Should I just use other mana rocks to try and get Lumra out early, or should I use ramp spells to also grab needed lands? I know I should be running some spells already to grab the combo, but should I just grab shit like Rampant Growth and Cultivate due to the high number of basics in the list as well?

Back when no one ran any removal. Nearly every card would untap him so when I got enough mana my turns would just go tap/untap/tap/untap/tap/untap/tap him to lock down the entire table, and use one of the like 20 counterspells for boardwipes or whatever that would try to kill him. I built Threaten tribal purely for taking commanders to beat other people with commander damage using their own cards (these are my commanders, Kediss allows a backup plan of regular damage wincon). It has a bunch of stuff that buffs like War Horn, Rising of the Day, Sword of the Chosen, etc, with the typical red stuff that gives your creatures trample to ensure damage goes through. It's *okay*, and absolutely falls flat when there's no good commander at the table to steal. It can work with a random big dude someone casts as well but you're at the mercy of someone bringing one out, which typically doesn't happen when people start to understand my gameplan. I do run the typical sac outlet card draw stuff like Nasty End/etc and it's fine but man do people get fucking butthurt when I hit them with their commander, and then sac it

There's some cool design space for it. The idea that your commander is special because of an artifact it has which imbues it with an ability. It matches the flavor of a background to a T with the only difference being that it's on an equipment that gives the ability to your commander.
Sidegrades the usual background stuff by doing more but with the downside of being an equipment you have to attach to said commander.

You're building this like an aristocrats deck when it shines as aggro. Your wincon is biting people to death and forcing them to choose unfair exchanges or to die to combat damage/poison. You have a lot of do nothing/winmore cards like Rancor and Grave Pact that don't need to be in there, while you have very few ways to actually make your creatures a mandatory threat people have to block or risk you getting out of hand like Sphere Grid or Quilled Greatwurm.

Also 31 lands is degenerate, even if you have a 2.xx avg mana cost deck.

The tokens have all properties of the original except they're 4/4 black zombies. They have their original name and mana cost, but their color, p/t, and types are overridden by the "except."
If you populated, you'd get a 4/4 black zombie named emrakul with a mana cost of 15, etc.
>>
>>98388980
>>98388983
>autists itt still missing the point
Nevermind that what makes something like dark depths combos strong is that exiling lands is hard and land recursion is easy but you're focusing on one example. Lands are strong because they generally cannot be interacted with the same way spells can, they do not use the stack and thus have lower points of interaction. Things like dark depths is one branch of what makes lands strong, fetch lands and dual lands are not. Pretending that it's weak doesn't make fetches the problem with lands.
>>doesn't mention ancient tomb

>Tokens and copies dont have back sides
Some copies do. Token copies of TDFCs copy backsides and can transform.
It still won't work a lot of the time since so many TDFCs instruct you to "exile, then return transformed," and tokens can't return from anywhere.
Creatures like Clone, Phyrexian Metamorph and the like *can't* transform after copying a TDFC. This is because they already have a backside (a regular Magic card back).

Might be fine. Put it together in a deckbuilder and playtest. It's a 5 mana commander that you've gotta swing with, meaning unassisted you're going off turn 6 to begin with. Ramp it but assume protection, boardstate and responses and you might be looking at firmly B3.

This is just landfall/land sac deck disguised as dwarf which highlights the problem with all "Dwarf" commanders currently printed, which is Dwarves as a creature type have no good tribal synergy or frankly good cards This card highlights that.

This card is literally just Goblin Recruiter for Dwarves yet unlike Goblin Recruiter, a card that basically wins goblin players the game, what is a dwarf player going to search for? Tobran? Gloin? Same for Lady, oh boy I get to look at 4 potentially dog shit dwarf cards, in a commander color that leaves out half of the dwarves
Most dwarf cards are so colossally shit they only exist to turn sideways and create a treasure.

There are some good dwarf cards but they have effects that benefit other strategies or archetypes

just go to your lgs and ask them Spider-Man did. or rather, how it's doing, since I guarantee you'll be able to point to an unsold Spider-Man play booster box when you ask.
>>
>>98391674
>eats less removal
that's a fun way of saying "it's a weaker effect"

>>98391666
So they sold a lot of a mix of spiderman and EOE to stores. I still see tons of stock on spiderman on shelves everywhere. Same with TMNT. I see zero EOE, lorwyn, even strixhaven I don't see much.
>>
>>98391696
I didn't even slightly imply that anything about any financial report was falsified. I'm just saying that the sales figures that indicate a set's popularity with players, are not the same figures that indicate how many direct sales Hasbro made to retailers. The financial reports disclose the latter figure, whereas the question of how a set "did" is a function of the former figure. But that figure isn't contained in any publication.

>>
>>98391998
that's remarkable, it sounds like your lgs just has a lot of inventory which makes the question of whether they are or aren't sold out of anything less relevant to the conversation about sales (but it definitely goes to show how well FIN boxes sold - really really well)
I would totally buy an EoE box if I was there and they were selling it for less than tcgplayer's price, that was a great set
