>>98393724That explains the necromancy but the rest is presumably all him.>>98393905Yeah but they weren't magnitudes stronger than that when they were 500 is the thing.
>>98393826>Yeah but they weren't magnitudes stronger than that when they were 500 is the thing. There is absolutely no way to know. Some are implied to have been true mages and/or sorcerers and all kinds of shit, nevermind being from ages of legend when people like Gilgamesh was around, or even far earlier. Every single antediluvian is implied to already have been special when they were embraced by Caine's children, who themselves are all implied to have been uniquely special, and let's not get started on fucking Lilith.Giovanni, for all his powers and all his necromancy, was still a bog standard human when it comes down to it. He just lived a long time and was highly accomplished in his field.
>>98393913>they weren't magnitudes stronger than that when they were 500 is the thing.Funny thing, we actually already know how strong Anttedeluvians should be without a million XP: 2e had all the 10th dots for each discipline. They were not That impressive compared to 9th dot powers, just slightly stronger. The only reason Antedeluvians are given statless god status is the same reason Ur-Shulgi and the one Methusela that killed Baba Yaga are, they're so fucking old their stat sheet would have thousands of pages of elder powers and combo disciplines. At that point it doesn't really matter what generation you are, a thinblood would also be a functional god.
Have I been usurped?
>>98393997There are Tremere in the thread!
>Augie has insane, once in a thousand years stats.>His goal is to... make all his descendants inbred and use them to destroy the shroud.Never liked the Giovanni, honestly.
>>98393994There seems to be a general philosophy that being lower gen gives you benefits beyond sheer mechanics. Virtually everybody below 6th gen breaks at least one rule. While it is possible they just bought a power that changes the rule, the approach does seem to be "they can do what they want" at a certain point.>>98394007It's called retard strength for a reason.
>>98394009>There seems to be a general philosophy that being lower gen gives you benefits beyond sheer mechanicsWasn't there a scene where Tremere didn't even need to use Thaumaturgy to roast the party to death in Transylvania Chronicles? That seems like a good example.
>>98394009>While it is possible they just bought a power that changes the ruleI'd go with this. A 4th gen neonate isn't going to be breaking any rules of vampirism, and there are 5th dot powers and combos that do let you break rules. The only thing dpeciap about the methusela is how old they are
>>98394033Yeah, I suppose "I'm so old I invented twenty different rule breaking powers" and "I'm so old the rules just don't apply to me " are interchangeable functions except that one of them can actually be used as a game piece afterwards.
>>98394000Im fine with that. I was getting a little burnt out on baking. I just want to know if this is a vacation or if the big wigs are trying to replace me. Either way, I sleep.
>>98394000Good.
>>98394007To be fair, he succeeded at one of his 2 goals.
>>98394033Even the weird powers of elder blood are easily ecplained as discipline effects. There are multiple powers that alter how your blood affects someone else. Hell, Tremere's 10th dot ritual gives his blood the ability to spread TEMPORARY IMMUNITY TO SUNLIGHT, and that was a side effect of it's main function.
>>98393826>What era/period/decade would you prefer to run or play in?Most of the games I've played in have used large time skips of years or decades in between major events. It's the thing that has always appealed to me about vampire: how your character reacts as time moves on and the world changes around them. I've always enjoyed the imagery of a scene like>You're hunting in the Rack, and as you're about to make the final moves on your prey, you see someone across the bar whom you recognize.>It's another vampire. 300 years ago, the two of had a bitter feud that you never resolved, but you hadn't seen or heard from him in all these centuries.>The two of you meet each other's gaze. It's clear he recognizes you too. What do you do?Does your character resume your feud with this other Lick? Do you you just ignore each other and go about your night? Do you actually try to reconnect with one of the only beings you can actually relate to, even if you were rivals in the past?
>>98394007>>98394064technically augustus and the other elders didn't want the degenerate inbreed partthat's the result of the giovanni celebrating the cappadocian genocide so hard for literal centuries the premascine clan leadership has been trying to counteract that by outlawing sibling fucking and by adopting more and more families but their younger incest riddled idiot family members keep being degenerates, but because their own mythology is based on the fact that their familly is the best they can't bring themselves to put their foot down and take a hard hand in fixing the familly
>>98394191>outlawing sibling fucking
>>98393826>TQCall me a megasperg, but I like running a wide variety of time periods. Helps our table feel like it has real history and continuity, and like an actual World of Darkness. Though we've been hitting the historical, mostly 1800s and early 1900s, so heavily right now that I really wouldn't mind something more modern. But I suspect that's a symptom of my table being largely disenchanted by and bitter towards the last 10 or so years of the world. By the same measure if I were to run something current year-y, I'd want to go for some deeper cuts, but that'd probably just cause arguments and lead to general bitterness. It is what it is, more period pieces for me. I've toyed recently with Ancient to Imperial China, Mid-Imperial Russia, and Renaissance Central Europe as settings.
>>98393994There's also the fact that reasonably, a game and its rules and its sheets cannot reasonably account for all things that can happen within its universe. For every written and spelled-out ritual, there's potentially countless other rituals that can conceivably exist or that can or have been alluded to or implied, but that would serve no practical purpose being written out and demystified.Insofar that the antedeluvians are real things, they are also unapproachable plot devices, and the fact that they were never statted even in 2e suggests that the writers realize(d) this and that they are far more than just 10 dots on a sheet, whether a power associated with that final dot is "just slightly stronger than 9th-dot powers".>>98394009I am of the opinion that every character should break at least one rule, at some point. And the older the character is, the more rules should be broken, because things rarely conform to rigid rulesets, especially in the greater narrative of all creation. And the antedeluvians are, regardless of the reality of them and what mythologies are right and about when or where or what, very, very, very old.>>98394000>There are Tremere in the thread!Picture related.
>TQActually, there's a thing where the Technocratic Order have lost control over their propoganda machine and can no longer reliably invent new technology, so I was thinking of doing a literal "end of history" campaign with 2004 tech, starting from maybe the 1980s and jumping forward decades at a time to 20XX, but still with 2004 tech.
>>98393826>What era/period/decade would you prefer to run or play in?My table mostly sets their stuff in the 2010s but I don't remember why.
>>98394277>but that would serve no practical purpose being written out and demystified.Isn't that what the power creation rules are for?
>>98394277Gee, Javier! How come your regent lets you have four maxillary canine teeth?
>>98393913>Yeah but they weren't magnitudes stronger than that when they were 500 is the thing.akshually most of them (or rather all of them but Set) where because they been antediluvian humans before embrace and that just gives you non disciplines powers as seen with japeth who was also born before the flood and who has random powers unrelated to his vampire powers that the st is allowed to make up on the spotso they are all basically multisplat but with a second splat (pre flood mortal) that we all can't get and that was never stated out
>>98394241Did you get to play in those settings? Also relatable. The world going to shit is why we are here after all.
Hedgefag is such a piece of shit GOD I hate him
>>9839427710 dots max has always been one of the weaknesses of storyteller. It forces everything to be depicted on this scale. Methuselah and Neonate. Dog and Dragon. The problem is that a raging elephant isn't 10 dots of strength compared to an expert athletes 4 dots. The scale of comparison is way off, but we would need to inflate dicepools into the hundreds to compensate. And thus, we retvrn to Shadowrun whose dice mechanics were an inspiration for wod 1e afaik.
>>98394277>javierwasn't that guy lasombra? the one who teaches you oblivion as a non lasombra if you let him livewho was also a total junkie for junkie blood trevor here is the main tremere npc from that game and also secretly sabbat
>>98394334what are you talking about? monsters and animals are not limited to 10 dots we have dragons in the bygone bestiary with 13 dots in strenght so white wolf really considered them to really just be that strong. it's not a limit in the engine some spirits can throw 30 dice at once to snap at you it's really just the abstraction and ... kinda skill issue from the writers
>>98394307>Isn't that what the power creation rules are for? There's always ways to create all kinds of stuff for your own game in addition to what already exists, yes. But that's for the practical use of facilitating gameplay. If you're writing out specific rules for a narrative power/ritual/etc. for something done by a methuselah 1000 years ago that will never see actual immediate use in the game itself, you're autistic to the point of being clinically unwell.>>98394339>wasn't that guy lasombra?Yeah, you're right. I was just hoping no-one would notice. Those games were surprisingly fun for what they were, and managed to almost entirely dodge most of the paracuck setting garbage.
how would you guys stat these?pistol with sniper damage and higher strenght requirement?
>>98394373are the smg stats not good for this sort of thing
>>98394353Feels like a "wow so scary look at me breaking the 10 dot scale" sort of situation. So a great dragon is as strong as 3 competent athletes. Impressive. Wow.
>>98394359>Those games were surprisingly fun for what they were, and managed to almost entirely dodge most of the paracuck setting garbage.yeah i think it's because the cast was fun i was also a big fan of the nosferatu primogen who was all business and had me gun down tremere with a ww2 stationary machine gun in the sewers or the giga chad ventrue prince with his "hobby" that he really likes if you are also into it and if you offer up your "sire" for it he pretty much adopts you on the spot and calls killing her "a bonding experience perhaps"that new disco elysium style game is set in the same city and i wouldn't mind if we get some cameos from the game in addition to the old black dog book (which are already confirmed).. although i don't know how that works with the rights
>>98394383Strip away any full.-auto option and they absolutely are.
>>98394330>Did you get to play in those settings? The ones I mentioned are ones I'm considering for future games. China is for VtM with some VtR grafted on. Russia is HtV. Specifically in the frontier and backwater, on a special mission from the Tsar. Haven't decided for the renaissance game, just have some occasional ideas for it. Actual period piece games my group has had are, not in order of when they took place or even when we played them:>HtV set in the lead up to and during WW2.>My homebrewed nWoD Sorcerer template set in the high medieval, specifically 1187 and 1188. Was a travel game. Started in Genoa, ended in the Faroe Islands. >HtV set in 1816 Louisville, Kentucky, during the famous "year without a summer". >CtL set in 1891 London, currently ongoing.>Upcoming VtM game set in 1920s Rochester, New York.
So what happens when the promise of 1528 runs out?
>>98394412I unfortunately have no high hopes for that game and it managing to avoid the shittier aspects of the new setting.I really wish they'd just make oWoD games instead, but I actually think that Paradox forbids it.
>>98394385>So a great dragon is as strong as 3 competent athletes.A.. are you genuinely retarded?
>>98394385Every dot increase is supposed to be more dramatic than the last. It's why 1 dot is the human minimum, 2 is the human average and 5 is the human maximum. Yes, this doesn't reflect in the math but complaining about oWoD mechanics is kind of like moving to a big noisy city and complaining about the noise. Everyone knows oWoD mechanics suck, there's a reason why some people would rather play the game in fucking GURPS.
>>98394441nobody but the camarilla inner circle knowsthe younger giovanni killed everyone on their side who knew without asking them what even is in the promise (yes the giovanni are this stupid in v5)
>>98394455GURPS is actually a phenomenal game if you've suffered through it long enough to become familiar, though. It has rules for any kind of game, a wide player base, and stockholm syndrome to keep you coming back for more.
>>98394454It's a complaint about mechanics simulating a given reality.>>98394455I know and it just fucking sucks. It's what I originally said, this is a big weakness with how shit is designed. It maybe makes sense for more mystical things such as sorcery or disciplines, but fails incredibly hard at portraying things like strength to the point of being completely ridiculous.
>>98394465So I've been told. I've also been told it's the devil by other people. I've never been able to get my group to try and suffer through it to get said stockholm syndrome. Either way, it's funny that people would rather play a game with a bespoke ruleset built for the setting itself in a different generic system designed around flexibility.
>>98394466WoD isn't trying to simulate reality; your entire premise is founded on a house of cards.
>>98394466>this is a big weakness with how shit is designed. There was an easy fix for this. Mummy 1e gave bonus rules for attributes above 5. Stuff like extra successes on the roll. If that was just made standard, 6-7 dots in something mundane like strength would actually feel superhuman.
>>98394441it very likely won't run out. The recent rumors that it has a 500 year limit are just that rumors and it's implied that the cappadocians and dursin started them so that the rest of the hecata could scare the giovanni to attend the family re-union
>>98394482Yes it is. WoD is a game that attempts to model a fictional reality. This fictional reality even completely intersects with our own. The mechanics are an attempt to portray the lore of the setting into a resolution system you can use to tell stories. The way things are described in a story and the way the dice resolution system would actually resolve them diverge greatly, this reduces immersion and is a flaw of the system. This was my complaint.Do you understand this or do I have to make a long-winded example to illustrate the point?>>98394490I guess you could do this. Or you could simply normalize going beyond 10 dots. The problem is the rest of the system is not designed for it, and it breaks apart.
>>98394473Admittedly, I'm also a big fan of Shadowrun, and the only D&D I'll play is 3e, so mechanical complexity is almost a selling point to me by now.
>>98394441Wops get got
where do you all recommend i look for a group for games that aren’t vampire the masquerade or werewolf the apocalypse? feels like a rarity that anyone advertises them in the places i usually look.
How often do you include Eclipses in your games?
>>98394497That's fair. I can see the points in favor of both ends of the spectrum. Rules-lite games are easier to get into but if you play them for more than a single short campaign, you've completely figured it out and can start to see what it can't do well in pursuit of keeping the rules quick and easy to understand. Very crunchy games will be slow at first as everyone gets their hands around it, but once you have a handle on it, the depth is far greater. I tend to prefer compromise, especially since sometimes I need to remind my players of shit they really should know by now. But gun to my head I'd rather take something crunchy than something unbearably rules lite.
>>98394521there won't be any places where those aren't a raritythose are very nichè games so nobody is hidding a forum where people love all the other gamelines more anon and if you want to play a nichè game you probably have to run it
>>98394526I wonder if the tides will one day turn back towards the crunch-simulationist gamer. The current momentum seems to be overwhelmingly in favor of rules-lite systems with all old systems getting their shaving down, so to speak.
>>98394441The Tremere get Necromancy.
This is my average experience every time I visit here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atv8pf0jBNE .
>>98394277Caleb is Tremere?
>>98394547The Pyramid always wins!Good luck other clans.
>>98394541Crunch-simulationism will return to the forefront if/when the hobby becomes repellant to normies again. Right now if you're making an RPG, you have to cope with the fact that the majority of players are at least normie-adjacent and don't like leaving the 5e hole. The other two cohorts are theater kids and old guard autists. It's difficult to make a new crunchy and/or simulationist game that does the crunch better than the old crunchy systems these people have already spent the time getting to know every nook and cranny of and are emotionally attached to. It's much easier to make something with barebones, narrativist mechanics, give it a kitschy setting and sell it to the theater kids. Some of the 5e forever normies might even buy it to try it for three sessions before going back to 5e.
How do I start playing Mage?Is it okay to skip to the post-structuralists or should I start somewhere around the enlightenment? Any recommended reading material to wrap my head around semiotics and phenomenology?
>>98394521There are several very active Discord servers for this sort of thing.
>>98394466>It's a complaint about mechanics simulating a given reality. You could've just said yes.
>>98394558Accurate. oWoD lorefags will go on for 300 posts about the same arguments about furry terrorists and super-solipsists they've had for the last 50 threads.
>>98394521Vigil's surprisingly popular, but only for home grown tables. No clue where to get a good online only game, if indeed such a thing exists.
>>98394593I'll tell you what /lit/ told me: start with the Greeks. And if you actually had read the Greeks, you would know to start with the Egyptians.
>>98394496>Or you could simply normalize going beyond 10 dots.Anon, that's already normal for non-vampires. Mages and Werewolves DGAF about the "10 dot limit" and casually surpass it all the fucking time.Hell, anons a few threads ago were talking about how get of fenris thowing 80 dice of physicals is just a thing rank 5s do.Stop treating vampire like it's the entirety of WoD.
>>98394593Remember, Verbena is the best tradition.
>>98394631>get of fenris thowing 80 dice of physicals is just a thing rank 5s doWhat in the fuck?
>>98394644>What in the fuck? It's a reminder that fera Rank is not equivalent to vampire generation.
>>98394623Thoth & Hermes is all you really need to be honest. Everything flows from there
>>98394547This is the truth. Soon all will be Usurped by the Pyramid
>>98394691>all will be Usurped by the PyramidStill vampires though. No matter how high the tremere climb, they will forever be seething about losing access to mortal magic.
>>98394547I hope not they would destroy the shroud within a week
>>98394750>sex with hot ghostsThanks, Tremere!
>>98394558>>98394608it's even like humans like to invent stories to stave off the existential dread from the knowledge of their impending doom
>new OPYou forgot someone.Look at me, brother.
>>98394608why don't these threads ever produce OC? you fucks have enough time to write it. go make some fansplats. i'm sure there's even a drawfag or two in here to illustrate a few pages
>>98394787Bro if we're counting minor splats he's missing far better things that Gypsy: the Stealing.
>>98393826>What era/period/decade would you prefer to run or play in?It depends heavily on what splat we're talking about. I have always been of the opinion that each mainline should be split up into a given period. None of them should be contemporary/modern.But for Vampire, definitely centered around the 80's, spilling about ~20 years on either side, but mostly 80's and going into the 90's.
So looking at the 2nd Generation & the clans, I have questions.Enoch was supposed to be the king of the First City until Caine came, but none of the "ruler" clans (Ventrue, Lasombra, etc) come from him, they come from Irad. You also have Cappas who in my opinion, are one of the most wise & scholarly clans coming from Irad too. When we look at the childre of Enoch we get Toreador & Malkav? Maybe Saulot. I get Zillah getting all the weirdos & monsters like Gangrel, Ravnos, Set. Zillah is sort of a diluted Lillith in being a hot chick with wild/gypsy vibes that Caine lusts after & forces to love him, so those Childre makes sense. But Irad & Enoch are all over the place. Why not put all the ugly scholars together, Nossies, Cappas, Tzimisce, etc.All they physical chads togetherVentrue, Toreador, Lasombra, etc.All the wild gypsies/freaks togetherGangrel, Ravnos, Set, etc.Assamites, Brujah & Malkavians could go different ways depending on which aspects you think resonate more to one side or the other. Brujah were originally scholarly, but now they are the punch clan. Assamites have noble goals & a sense of responsibly that lean towars Irad & strange magic like Enoch, but they also vibe with Zillah, Malks are insane prophets which could go with Enoch or Zillah.Saulot is better off not accounted for either, since he would be the odd man out & some things hint that he was a 2nd Gen as well
Since the tremere were high level hermetic mages before they became vampires why haven't they just figured out how to copy every other vampire clans powers? Especially since its technically sorcerery and not true magic which is supposed to be way simpler.
>>98394806Im working on some Mummy stuff & also werebunnies on a far back burner. I made a Caitiff discord not too long ago
>>98394825maybe the vampirizitificationing process fucked with their Avatar and now they can't do the willwork
>>98394825They largely have. Theres a lot of Paths & Rituals that make it so they dont need a full discipline to do something that discipline does. Its not always as good as that discipline in the long run but it works in a pinch. Also. The other Clans are LOATHE to give any kind of secrets to any other clan but especially the Tremere. The Tremere themselves dont give all their secrets to other members either. But if there are secrets to be known or powers to be mastered, you can bet there is at least one tremere who has it
>>98394806They do. I made the VtM to VtR 2e fan conversion. A while back one Anon made a custom Caitiff clanbook he used AI images but forgive him, it was early into the gen AI boom. His more dire sin was making Joseph Pander Polish. . There's the guy working on his own custom-ish WoD setting. I also got my current character art from a drawfag here. I don't give the lorefags shit for lorefagging. I give them shit for having the same conversation over and over again.
Here's your Changeling: the Dreaming 5th Edition. Corporate says that A.I. is the latest design trend, so all you artsy types should love it.
>>98394825Yeah that's what Tremere is lacking. They're too underpowered. Why don't we just give them all disciplines?
>>98394806>why don't these threads ever produce OC?I've been trying, but I'm unmedicated.
>>98394819we don't have much info about the second gens but it seems their embraces are all based on something the sire wants enoch wanted a familly that's why the second gens and presumably his own childer are even a thing so embraces mostly out of a want of companionshipirad wanted to have a "king and philosopher bloodline" to hide the fact that he was a bit of a bloodthirsty brutezillah probably just wanted to cheat on caine who ruffied her into marriage with vitaethat being said the vast majority of 3rd gens are given no clear sire like tzimisce's sire is said to be either irad or enoch in different books. Set is assumed to be Zillah's childe because he claims that he was in love with her but BJD ties him to Enoch instead. the gangrel books say that ennoia never talked about her sire and all that is written about her in the first city is speculation from other clans the only ones who are really nailed down are Absimiliard (who i wouldn't put into scholar because his clan are not really the nosferatu but the nictuku), ventru, cappadocian and lasombra
>>98394819Personally, I think you're thinking of this too archetypally. The 2nd gen were still people and as a result, weren't necessarily going to embrace someone just because they fit their "gimmick". Only some clans, like the Ventrue, embrace on very specific criteria in terms of "role".Perhaps Enoch was smitten by Arikel. Perhaps Irad viewed Cappadocius as that one autistic friend that you can talk about Star Wars lore about till 3AM. Besides which, who sired who is still largely speculation. Ventrue are, following discipline affinity theory, Irad's get. But they claim Enoch as their ancestor for more kingly legitimacy.
Hermetic almost got culturally enriched.
I'm burnt out on Vampire, my creative juices have stopped. What should I learn next? W20, Mage Revised, Wraith Revised, HtV2e, or CtL1e?
>>98394906My dick.
>>98394906If it's burnout that's the problem, I vote Vigil. It's very open so you can take it in many different directions. Burnt out on vampires? No problem, you can go an entire chronicle without touching anything even vamp-adjacent. You can be a group of locals stumbling ass-backwards into the paranormal, or high level agents of the United States (or any) government. You can be bagging supernaturals to be ground up into dick pills and ratchet body mods for a shady corporation who may be aliens , or tracking down your own ancient demonic ancestor to kill. You can want to kill, study, or sexually assault your query if you so choose. You can create monsters whole cloth to fit the story you want to tell.
>>98394915Little to learn.
>>98394901Imagine being Awakened & still mugging people... they really dont change

>>98394906We need more Mummy posters.
>>98394452>I really wish they'd just make oWoD games instead, but I actually think that Paradox forbids it.The Dark Pack agreement Paradox forces on people they allow to make their vidya is that you're only allowed to use oWoD stuff freely if the splat doesn't have a WoD5 edition. Earthblood, for example, was that last WtA game that doesn't have to address W5 since it was made before Karim's turd existed, and there was a Wraith VR game that similarly didn't have constraints because god knows there's never gonna be a Wraith5.

>>98394938Prime is basic the "Magic" sphere. All magic, ststic or dynamic, uses some form of primal energy/quintessence.That's why it lets you enchant things, drain magic energy, dispell any magic effects, etc.You can also make non-magic things stop existing or convert them into magic energy.
>>98394938How much do you understand about Ontology?I feel like Mage forces a monist view of Reality and prime is the one Substance that forms everything.
>>98394825They try. There's actually a path that reproduces Obtenebration, but it's incomplete because they don't have any primary sources since even traitor Lasombra won't trade it to the Tremere.
>>98394954Shit my bad
if Correspondence 2 is enough to "pull small things from one place to another", why does it also require Matter to do the same to bullets?
>>98394970>There's actually a path that reproduces ObtenebrationThis gets even more hilarious when you realize Obtenebration is the mortal sorcery Path of Shadowcasting converted to discipline for. It's a long game of Telephone, and the tremere are just getting back to where they started.
>>98394981I'm gonna sound like a broken record, but Brucato. At some point he nerfed Correspondence hard by requiring it to need the same amount of dots in the corresponding pattern sphere to work. So Cor2/Mat2 for bullets Cor5/Mat 5 to teleport a nuke.
>>98394981>why does it also require Matter to do the same to bullets? It doesn't, or at least Shouldn't. You can telekinetically control inanimate objects with Matter OR Correspondence. Requiring both is just Author fiat to nerf mages.
>>98394981You can do it with correspondence 2, but you can also do with correspondence 2/matter 2.
>>98394981Thats the problem with Spheres. When you isolate a concept, you then have to string all these little bullshit concepts together to make a coherent effect.Correspondence alone actually does fuck all, because according to Sphere magic you gotta tie the Correspondence effect to another sphere to have the effect achor its function. Such as Matter to effect bullets, or Forces to effect gravity. A mage with 5 dots in it cant do shit if he doesnt have other Spheres, but then they just break that rule because otherwise why the fuck would you do that?
Holy fuck you guys weren't kidding about M20 being inferior to MRevised. This feels like a game you can actually play instead of shifting through 30 pages of Satyros Brucato's gay schizophrenia to find one table. What other books should I get to get a fuller picture? While the revised corebook is severly lacking in technocracy content and shows its age with things like Dodge still being a skill, the rest is still more streamlined. M20 might be useful for lore, but I'd rather get the good books.
>>98394981>>98394993>>98394999My interpretation has always been that Correspondence only means that you are able to create an effect through a sympathetic connection, it doesn't create the effect itself, so manipulating matters require the matter sphere the same way that viewing the past of a remote location would require Time together with Correspondence.
>>98394993>cor 5/mat5 to teleport a nukehuh? how is it different than teleporting just about any other object? Or creating a portal and throwing it through it, really.
>>98394981But what about using spheres to ricochet bullets into enemies hiding around the corner? That should be coincidental as long as you don't have all your bullets hitting your target.
>>98395013because you need Matter 5 to interact with radioactive elements
>>98395008That interpretation directly conflicts with the example effects of what the sphere can do on it's own.
Just backport Awakening 2e's mechanics and call it a day.
>>98395020I take this to mean you need matter 5 to make something inherently radioactive or not radioactive. I think this is best compared to throwing a fireball at somebody vs making them explode into a fireball.
>>98394927My dick is more powerful than you.
>>98395031You mean the game that was deliberately constructed wrong?
>>98395020Anon, Sphere 5 Effects are for CREATING NEW THINGS. Not manipulating exidting things(sphere 3)
>>98395044How? It seems more streamlined and coherent.
>>98395007It's ridiculous how bloated M20 is. If you cut out all of Brucato's purple prose, the unnecessary exposition on niche rules that shouldn't be in the core book at all and the crafts (because let's face it they are side content. V20 did just fine by putting all the bloodlines in other books. Same for W20 with Fera), you can shave the book down to like 400 pages and have enough space in those to properly explain how the spheres work. Hilariously, Mage would have ended up the shortest 20th edition core book.Meanwhile Revised/2nd ed. are streamlined in the best way possible. You know exactly what you're getting, everything is explained way better and any extraneous content is in expansion books. Brevity is the soul of wit.
>>98395020What the fuck? Why is melting a steal beam a Mind effect at all?
>>98395051Because the guy who wrote it deliberately overtuned it as a power fantasy so that it's trivially easy for Mages to get outsized benefits and ignore all restrictions by playing the game the way he wants them to.
>>98395058because sometimes jet fuel just isn't enough
Broke: Brucato nerfs the game because he's a grognard sex pest with very specific opinions about what mage should beWoke: Brucato nerfs the game because he believes magic is real and he's making it harder for real life nephandi to cast by manipulating the consensus
>>98395058There's an entire section of How Do you Do That about "psychic effects" that are literally just the same as other effects but with Mind or Spirit thrown in for no reason.
>>98395083Why involve mind at all? Its just a Forces effect?Fuck I hate Spheres
>>98395075His efforts are in vain then, the IRL Nephandi already have the strongest magic around. The only people he's nerfing are the plebs.
Back in the previous thread multiple people complained the Invictus are boring, or at least lacking in flavor compared to the other Covenants. Wanna see what we can do to jazz them up so they're not just "We have Camarilla at home"?
>>98395058The Mind is required to make the effect work in that specific way, with a thought, I don't think people appreciate how limited mages are by their Paradigms, mage is a game where the Fluff is the most important aspect.
>>98395092>Why involve mind at all? Its just a Forces effect? It woulfn't involve mind at all. HDYDT contradicts the core rules, the supplemental rules, and even itself at multiple points. It literally can't be used.
>>98395092Because it uses the mind or something. Realistically effects like this should be just be Forces and/or Prime with psychic bullshit as the focus/instrument. Mind is entirely unnecessary unless you're using it actually affect minds. The exception would be using the Mind sphere itself to mind blast people doing bashing damage, but that requires Mind only, no Forces necessary.
>>98395112>The Mind is required to make the effect work in that specific way, with a thought, I don't think people appreciate how limited mages are by their ParadigmsAnon. This was a rewrite added in 20th an nowhere else. This is purely what happens when brucato has unlimited creative contril, not something that was trues of the mage gameline.Mage 20th is a worthless edition. Pyro kinesis is a forces effect with a psychic instrument, not forces + mind.
>>98395119>>98395115Exactly what i though. Otherwise everything would need Mind because youre thinking it into being.>>98395112No the fuck it doesnt. Paradigm means that I am psychic & must limit my magic through psychic explanation. However the Mind Sphere is about effecting/creating/manipulating Minds & the purview of the Mind. The steel beam is not a fucking brain. Now, if I created a spell that melted whatever another person concentrated on, THAT would take Forces+Mind

Real Mages don't need anything more than Matter 1 to cook.
>>98395432no in the nasuverse you need to hypnotise yourself to cast a spell that allows jet fuel to melt steel beams unless you are chunni enough to just force the image with 100% certainty into your mind with willpower
Thinking about it, wouldn't it be really easy to make a post-2000's classic world of darkness setting by just porting from pre-grand-order fate and tsukihime lore? They were direct rips of classic world of darkness, so it's just coming back full circle.
>>98395290The wop isnt an ante>>98395282Eldest for sure. Saulot a close second. They're also very closely linked too.I like to think that Saulot created three clans to pursue Golconda/evolution of the Kindred condition with the three different resonances as a guide, Baali is Wyrm, Tremere is Wyvr, Salubri is Wyld. All three search for exaltation, one through the profane, one through academic/magic, & the last through altruism. The Eldest pursues evolution through a dark anathema of Primordialism he is the "antiGaia". This is all headcanon though.

>>98395509Well True Magic still has rules, it's not creation and change from nothing. It's a sort of supernatural distortion that breaches through the world lines though, effectively letting you pay off the ginormous mana cost needed to actually do WoD-esque magic.Aoko herself aside, because she's a plucky 0 int grug with a personality perfect for the 5th magic (aka the irresponsible loan), every True Magic feat seen can be recreated with magecraft but it's turbo unreliable and takes some shit like 100 dead people to cast, like the HF wishes or Zelretch's dimensional bullshit.
>>98395509Not really. Nasu True Magic is something very specific. Like the Second Magic is the Operation of Parallel Worlds, right? So as a True Magic, you definitely and absolutely have the right to actuate that, regardless of outside factors, you will always win when it comes to counterspelling or the like, and all True Magics can make you immortal, but if you want to do anything that doesn't directly involve Parallel Worlds, you have to learn normal magic with its various limitations, albeit with the caveat that somebody who can realize a True Magic is exceptionally well suited to performing things like curses and magecraft. Think of it normal magic is getting in a boat and swimming across the ocean, and True Magic is boring a hole to the center of the Earth. Way more powerful and impressive, but not actually that flexible, since boring a hole through the Earth to travel from England to Spain is pretty bothersome when you can just buy a plane ticket.

>TQWe usually like to do between the 50s-00s. Surveillance tech isnt as oppressive and we are familiar enough with the era that we can comfortably play. Our main issue is getting set up with a certain locale/NPCs and then having to acclimate to what has changed during the time skip. Usually we try to keep the chronicle to a decade or two.
>>98395536>>98395537I mean technically almost anything in wod can be replicated with linear magic included restraining incarnaI find it funny that true magic in nasuverse basically has the same paradox backlash unless a mage is hiding in their own reality marble (aka chantry) except paradox being mediated by both the consensus and gaia (although paradox spirits might technically be part of the gaian hierarchy). Another one for one parallel is in his angel notes where there are 6 sisters in parallel with the true 5 magics in his setting and the last being the hypothetical sixth magic literally named judgement that nasu keeps teasing that will solve the setting or supposedly bring happiness, which is basically just the 10th sphere. Also in that setting gaia asks the planetary incarna to summon themselves on earth kill off humanity after she dies.
>>98395533>nightshadeAs I recall it's vicissitude that survives as a (somewhat controllable) disease causing mutations, not necessarily the Eldest himself.Ennoia suvives somehow though, she's just that good.

Except she would never admit admit that Aoko is well-suited to anything but mana beams. In a way it's kind of like True Magic does ONE thing generally exceptionally well in producing infinite mana for the user and one specific thing which is what the magic is actually for, like interfering in parallel worlds, materializing souls before they reincarnate, transferring energy between two points in time, etc. Some of the background lore seems to imply that before Magecraft spawned from Solomon (via usage of True Magic), Mages could just straight up do True Magic because of the greater mysticism of the age.
In an alternate universe MtA and Fate swap, such that one of the biggest japanese franchises of all time is about the Traditions and the Technocracy fighting the ''Holy Grail War'' over the consensus but more anime, while ''Mage'' is an incoherent mess that's basically the KotE mixed with the Nasuverse if written by Brucato and Achilli.

>>98395602>while ''Mage'' is an incoherent messdon't need an alternate universe for that
>>98395589>True Magic has the same paradox backlashIt's more like the road to True Magic (except if you're destined for it or have the exact genes to awaken the path) is heavily enforced by supernatural forces and supernatural hitmen so that some once in a lifetime 300 IQ psychopath like Kiritsugu's dad or Araya (from KnK) can't brute force their way into another magic before humanity is ready. True Magic itself isn't really policed.I do agree with the rest, strangely WoD-esque though for Notes case I think it's more of a coincidence. It was one of Nasu's first works.
>>98395597Before the invention of magecraft, no normal humans could do magic. It was only possible if you had divine ancestry.
>>98395602>KotE mixed with Nasuverse if written by Brucato and AchilliHoly, forget Saber sexo. It'd be the most degenerate thing ever.
>>98395611>True Magic itself isn't really policed. We only see three true magic users with one being turned into a legendary fetish, the other one living outside of time like a time 5 user and aoko who gets backlash in the form of physical pressure and also death threats from a paradox spirit each time she uses the 5th magic.
>>98395537>Not really. Nasu True Magic is something very specificAnon, each true magic in nasuverse is a mage sphere. The first true magic is prime, the second is dimensional science, the third is classic spirit, 4th is correspondence, 5th is entropy, and 6th is telos from time of judgement.
>>98395602>In an alternate universe MtA and Fate swap, such that one of the biggest japanese franchises of all time is about the Traditions and the Technocracy fighting the ''Holy Grail War'' over the consensus but more anime,Anon, the holy grail war is regarded as a backwater ritual made by has-been and never-will-be mage families. The "Trafitions" in the fate verse is the Clocktower, the "Technocracy" is Atlas, and the "Association of Crafts" is the Wandering Sea.The rip-off was very blatent in early nasu.
>>98395638Aoko gets backlash because she was only playing around. >>98397138>just the one guy who is allowed to use either the combat or streetfighter book while everyone else runs on corebook rulesDon't even need to do that. If you have everone on the WoD: Combat system, he'd be the only guy who put point into all of brawl, melee, martial arts, and bought Do ontop for a full 8 combat maneuvers per dot.
>>98397164>When the Gangrel thinks he can suck on you but you got Brawl 5 and Strength 5 so you punch him through a wallBased
>>98397171Probably strength 6. Batman has Peak human physicality, which according to the "Legendary Attribute" merit, wpuld be strength, dexterity, snd stamina 6. Legendary Attribute also operates on Mummy super Attribute rules, so a Dex 6 human has 1 extra action per turn like they had a constant celerity 1 effect.
>>98397183So, when most nightfolk reach the limits of human achievement they just get +1 attribute, but when humans and humans wearing toilet paper halloween costumes reach the apex, they get exponential power bumps and so many divine blessings that fucking sunlight starts radiating out of their self-rightious asshole?WTF?
>>98397183Batman doesn't have unlimited points to buy merits with. We should assume that he has the normal rules for humans and gets five dots, instead of saying he has exceptional attribute for everything or raiding Mummy's rulebook to make him a superhuman.
>>98395108The Invictus are honestly fine, they just suffer from their conceit being the "vampire elite" but also being one of five roughly equal covenants. It's similar to the problem the Camarilla can suffer from where they're allegedly the biggest sect and the vampire establishment but between the various nonwhite ethnic monoliths and the Sabbat's dubious territorial claims they come off as shockingly small. I will however say that the 1e Invictus covenant book is worth a read for the atmosphere alone. First off, lots of sexy vampires engaging in very erotic feeding. Secondly and more seriously, the visuals and fluff sell the "vampire aristocracy" vibe quite well to the point I'd say it's worthy inspiration for anyone who wants to flesh out the upper echelons of the Camarilla, Toreador, or Ventrue in VtM. Besides being a solid book for its actual intended setting.
>>98397223Anon, batman isn't a character creation human. He's already a "on 9th campaign got over 300 total xp points" human.
>>98397229You can't buy merits with XP in World, though, unless I forgot something.
>>98397219To be fair, Batman is not only a freaky gene baby, he's also>Rich>200 IQ>Photographic memory>Banned from studying magic because he's actually just start murdering Gotham criminals and get too good at it>A master escape artist>Impressive focus>Great perceptionYou aren't meant to compete with a literal comic book peak human with author fiat on his side.A more realistic Batman would be something like Dex 5, Str 4, Stamina 6 since he can still lose to some crazy dude like a coked up Bane, but he always recovers. Maybe could make him stam 3 with the ability to use willpower to boost it for a while, if one wanted him to be fairly powerscaled as a normie.
>>98397234>>Banned from studying magic because he's actually just start murdering Gotham criminals and get too good at itWhich trash issue is that one from? Usually he's just plainly not good at magic and has to outsource if he's ever in dire need.
>>98397233You did. Merits are buyable as backgrounds with dots totalling their freebee cost. Buying True Faith would cost 21 xp for example.
>>98397233Depends on the version, most of the time they are dirt cheap when you can buy them.
>>98397234>since he can still lose to some crazy dude like a coked up BaneAnon, bane would be a Fomri with Fomorol addiction. Fomorol is the drug that Doubles all a fomori's powers and banes would have Mega-attribute Strength. AKA Strength 11 when he's High on Venom/Fomorol.
>>98397234>if one wanted him to be fairly powerscaled as a normie. You revealed your hand too blatently here anon.
>>98397246Don't foreget the body expansion that raised that to about 14-16 dice when using drugs to further boost it.
>>98397236In that case, the save vs daze is pretty iconic to Batman's fitting style, where he constantly punches people in the head until they're too concussed to stand.
>>98397269Already a thing in WoD combat by default
>>98397281I just wanted to make a joke about how brutal Batman gets portrayed sometimes, since he's also the "all life is sacred" guy who doesn't believe in murder.

>>98397412Dark Ages, Changeling (either), Mummy Maybe even Werewolf , idk if Demon is actually that good to get into.Wraith and Mummy both kind of ask a lot from both the players and the ST. If you're willing to go outside of WoD Cyberpunk Red is allegedly quite kino.
>>98397412exalted
>>98397359Constantine is always scrounging to stay a step ahead of his loan sharks, but he's also savvy enough to do so and knows how to stretch a buck. In DC, magic always has a cost, and the people with a personal mana pool are about 1% of the population, meaning the other 99% are significantly worse at magic than John Constantine, and lack his quick wit and penny pinching wariness.

>>98397412>Y?Because every Mage game I ever was in across my fifteen years of experience, whether as a player or ST, devolved into an ungodly slog or a shouting match as everyone tried to figure out who could do what with their magic ane everyone ended up unhappy, for starters. Not the most unpleasant thing that happened with Mage games but it happened almosty exclusively when playing Mage, and by far it was the most common problem.
>>98397430I have tried Dark Ages, was fun but never managed to find a good enough group for it. >>98397560The Lost did sound pretty kino, I do like the concept of the Hedge and such, gotta read the rulebook for that too
Setites when they meet a Noddist.
>>98397466Should be in the STV mega if it still exists.
>>98397624Congratulations, you finally made Setites seem based.
Some thoughts concerning Mummy:Firstly, perhaps servants of Akhenaten the Heretic King could exist. While they technically serve the Sun, monotheism was extremely disliked in ancient Egypt. This is probably due to opposition from the priesthood, who would lose power and prestige. Secondly, we have Anne Rice to thank for the extreme sensuousness of mummies. For details read Ramses the Damned.Thirdly, watch Bubba Hotep. It is pretty funny.
>>98397624Nice meme, shame you had to mention the S*tites to use it.
>>98397502i think its pretty clear in the rules what you can do with what level of spheres but the main thing is the player has to describe how they work their magic and what tools they use to achieve the effect and why/how that happens.
>>98395264Doesn't that happen in Mummy: the Curse? I haven't played it yet.
>>98397401>>98397287>>98397284Teen Wolf the 80's movie is funny but kinda garbage.Teen Wolf the MTV tv show is actually kinda decent as far as teen shows go. Its almost exactly like Buffy but werewolves.

For the Fan Reboot of Darkness, how many x/y-splats should each game have? I'd like to keep it consistent across the figurative board. Thus far, only ghosts and demons are confirmed for non-mortal games. Hang on a fucking second. People were bitching about how Kuei Jin could never be retconned into normal vampires because they can spontaneously generate from dead bodies instead of The Embrace. Why the fuck can the Cappadocians return to fresh corpses or maybe generated whole new bodies then? That's literally the same thing without the orientalist shit."Some accounts have it that a cabal of ancient, powerful, and very angry took advantage of the Sixth Great Maelstrom to break through the Shroud, claiming or forming new decayed bodies and seeking vengeance. Others have it that it was the Capuchin's magics which helped the cabal escape the Underworld."

Princessanon here again, Adelweiss can't make it for the second week in a row, so I'm planning to send the others back to Okinawa for a bit since I want her around for the Himmler plot in Leipzig and Berlin.Justification has to do with something I've been setting up for a while. Hana's from Yakushima, which was consumed by a strange virus (think Dark Sector technocyte) shortly after she left for Okinawa. We went back a couple sessions ago and discovered all of that and that her brother (who had been sending her messages in her dreams) went to find her.Well, her infected brother has been slowly spreading in the northern tip of Okinawa and will now be reaching critical mass. So, we gotta go help our dhampir friend and the CIA put a stop to that.
You ever done a post apocalyptic campaign? Using vampire for something like Code Vein?
>>98398455>People were bitching about how Kuei Jin could never be retconned into normal vampiresCite your sources.>Why the fuck can the Cappadocians return to fresh corpsesThey (normally) can't. You think the entire Cappadocian clan would be rocking around in the bodies that has been rotting since the death of Cappadocius if they could? You think that Samedi are the way they are because they think its funny? Also, the Sixth Great Maelstrom is a very gay and very recent even at the end of the gay metaplot, it has no major bearing prior to that.Just retcon the Kuei-Jin. You don't need an excuse to "make it fit". There wouldn't even be anything stopping you from saying that they just do whatever differently for whatever reasons, new or imagined.>>98398087>>98398094Gay World of Darkness, whether you're into the gay or not, it's fucking gay. You'd never confuse the Ventrue or Toreador of nWoD with the Ventrue or Toreador of oWoD, and in the same way oWoD and gWoD both have a character named Theo Bell, but you'd never confuse the one with the other. This separation started out strong (but confusing) with V5, but with W5 and H5 anyone still trying to argue "it's the same setting!" should only be met with laughter and derision. They are all very plainly not the same settings.

>>98398593Why would you need that? It’s not that hard to remember. There are only 13 lines, 2 were usurped, and only 7 of them were made to be playable from the start. Besides, anything past the 5th generation is nebulous at best.
>>98398575Yeah, that is not far from what I said myself in discussions on the matter prior to that thread. I'd just make them an eastern wing of kindred that reject the whole noddist/semitic foundational myth, and with their own supporting evidence that is only really relevant to them.>>98398576I know you're trying to be funny, but nothing I said is dependent on a source, because canonicity does not depend on corporate decree or marketing departments, but on substance. In the off chance you're actually retarded rather than tongue-in-cheek; you can kvetch and screech all you want, but the Theo Bell of gWoD does not make sense in regards to the Theo Bell of oWoD, the werewolves and Get of Fenris in gWoD does not make sense in regards to the kinfolk and woofs and Get of Fenris in oWoD, and the hunters in gWoD makes no sense in regards to the imbued in oWoD. The list goes on and on and on and on, to a thousand big and small things, from major clans with no clan structure in oWoD acting like near-monoliths in gWoD to individual characters in gWoD acting in complete opposite to their established motivations in regards to the corresponding characters in oWoD.Meanwhile, I saw maybe one person trying to argue that you can't change the Kuei-Jin based on the nature of the Kuei-Jin being established as different from what the change would make them, which is a far cry from "people were bitching". The truth is that the overwhelmingly vast majority of people never gave a shit about the Kuei-Jin to begin with, and that their established nature is itself a retcon of something that had far greater potential than what they were retconned into. Also, picture related.

>>98397861I just don't like how Requiem touchstones are conflated with V5 touchstones like they're the same thing. Requiem touchstones are easily excised if you absolutely don't want one, don't have to be a person and can in fact be an object or location, and offer a marginal benefit to maintaining your humanity with the only drawback of a prompt to enter torpor (Requiem torpor durations aren't that long unless you're low humanity, high BP) if your touchstone is killed/destroyed. They're unobtrusive, flexible to the point a genuine hermit can still have one, and can be easily removed without breaking anything if you still don't want one. V5 touchstones are unwieldly, unnuanced, and inelegant rip-offs that miss the point. Like most things V5 stole from Requiem.
>>98398593No, because that would defeat the point. Many lineages are loosely tracked at best, and a lot is kept ambiguous by design. Trying to autistically categorize everything is a fool's errand, and such efforts should be frustrated by the introduction of conflicting information whenever possible, especially since many deliberately obfuscate their origins, and others have been lost over the literal millennia. For reference, the historical basis for the deluge happened 11-13k years ago.Now track your own lineage 200 years and also assume that it includes magic and the possibility of younger children claiming the positions of their older relatives within the tree. Extrapolate and compound over 10x that time, and work out the clusters of clans. Maybe then you'll start to appreciate why it is fucked and why it should stay fucked.

>>98394593>How do I start playing Mage?My recommendation is to start with the Mage: The Ascension Revised Edition core rulebook, and then go to M20 from there (and read 2nd Edition for fluff and compatible extra material), because while M20 may feel like the "most up-to-date" version, it does a very poor job of conveying how the game is meant to be played or how it all fits together, and also crams in a lot of content that is simply not of relevance (such as the entire Technocracy section, which presents them as playable options when the Technocracy functions very differently from the magics of the Mages). Also, scour books for rotes and insist on players writing their own rotes and thinking about what rotes/rituals/"spells" the actually have, and how they make sense within the context of their tradition/paradigm, and what they have to do achieve what they want to achieve using the Spheres to which they have access.Winging it in the middle of play with "Uh, I have.. uh.. 1 Matter and uh.. 2 Force, so I swing my dick around and make thing happen" is miserable, and - I think - misses the whole point that things happen because you think that you're doing the right thing to make it happen. The True Mages genuinely believe that their paradigm is correct and view other paradigms through that lens, too. Only the most powerful have seen something approaching the "full" truth, which is why as time goes on you need less and less trinkets and implements to help you do the magic, and move towards a higher sphere of understanding, or, I guess, a unified field theory of magical consensus. But yeah, I'd start there.

There's nothing really wrong with them, but I'd be more than happy to spitball some ideas if people are onboard.
>>98399925H5 isn't even bad, some things are nice, it's just very limited in scope.
>>98395108i wasn't in the last thead but i also don't mind the invictus the only thing i prefer to do is to put more focus on the fact that they are a medivial society instead of just nobility and with that i mean they have a(t least one) knight order, guilds (with a master apprenticeship system), a occult study arm and stuff like that because they used to be the defacto vampire goverment of the western world till the 19th century and the Lancea et Sanctum arguably used to be part of them so some of these group should also think about the pros and cons of breaking off the now weakened invictus

>Faith is the energy of the cosmos, the breath of the Creator and the lifeblood of the damned. Demons use Faith to enhance themselves, or to alter reality using the tools given to them by their former Lord.>The irony is that demons cannot generate Faith themselves. Faith is about belief, not knowledge, and demons know the truth about the Creator and His grand experiment. For a demon, simply believing in God is as effective as regular people believing in lawn furniture.so if knowledge is the only thing that makes it impossible for fallen to generate faith wouldn't a fully amnesiac fallen or someone who decides to worship another kind of spirit be able to generate their own faith?
>>98400129Demons are so convinced of their own supremacy that when they encounter things older or more powerful than them they scramble so desperately for a justification that they leave the realm of reason entirely, to the point that their running theory is that the world is comprised of several different universes that smashed into each other while they were asleep, since that's easier on their ego to accept than that they just aren't as important as they think they are.

>>98400159Paradigm.
>>98400164Paradigms are logically consistent. They just conflict with each other, but that's fine because each Mage is of the position that he alone understands the true nature of reality and everyone else is varying degrees of wrong.
>>98400171The point is that each and every singhle mage is totally delulu that their schizo worldview is the ONLY truth in all of existence and they have autistic tardouts whenever they're challenged on it.
>>98400055>Isnt most wraith powers useless outside the underworld? No. We get a list of which wraith powers are or are not useless in the skinlands in the Risen book.
>>98400199But my point was that Demons are even more delusional because every Mage knows that he is right and acts accordingly, whereas Demons know for a fact they are wrong and invent insane schizobabble to rationalize it away.
>>98400072It's a downgrade compare to HH2 and has nothing to do with the Imbued. For whatever reason, the lore of previous factions was also changed because...?
>>98400199You're exaggerating this shit to the point of absurdity. If this was entirely true, any sort of faction of mages would be impossible, let alone larger factions like the Council of Traditions and the Technocracy which are made up of numerous factions of mages with conflicting belief systems. Every other mage represents a challenge to their paradigm but you don't see them going highlander on each other.

>>98400129Faith is ultimately just a resource for the Demon's magic system no different than any other splat. Their particular flavor of Quintessence/Mana/whatever is aligned with the people's belief in something they cant understand. Since a demon knows/thinks he knows every truth & he has no belief in something else then they cannot manifest it themselves. Any Demon who has amnesia or whatever still doesnt engender faith because they ultimately have no faith in anything, they are the embodiment of fedora tippers.

>>98400517>6 successes (assuming a 10 counts for 2)Must be an impressive goon slave you summoned.
>>98400517>>98400541Wait I'm retarded it's just 3-4. Less impressive, probably a fomori.>>98400475Gimmick dice are kind of in this weird mix of soul and anti-soul, since it's enforced RP but the flavoring of it is actually very cool on all 3 games. It's a bit annoying though, I have to say.
>>98400541>>984005174 successes is enough to summon 4 demi-supernaturals (ghouls, sorcerers, fomori, kinfolk, kinain) or 4 swarms of lesser dot summonables (humans, vermin, toasters etc.)
>>98400544And that's how you start a Fomori Breed.Memes aside I'm still trying to decide what rules I should use for a Tremere Ghoul looting their masters mansion after they went missing for over a year. This type of shit being what they weren't embraced despite any talent for magic.
>>98400564Would it be worse for the sorcerer to summon a Fomorian or a Drone?
>>98400055And then there's >Pandemonium, which at max lets a wraith speed up or slow down time>Outrage, which at max has 8~15 aggravated damage that ignores nearly all defenses>Keening, which at max lets you stun someone multiple turns with a word>Intimation, which lets you rewrite someone's personality so subtly even they don't notice>Mnemosynis, which lets you fuck with people's memoriesAll of these powers work on anyone, and beyond the shroud as well
>>98400517
>>98400600possession was also pretty powerful if i remember correctly vampires without auspex couldn't figure out that they even are being influenced same with most werewolves who's only hope was sense wyrm which only worked when the ghost has a lot of temporary angst and changelings had to hope that they been in good graces of a sluagh mages could of course just roll entropy or spirit while kuei jin and mummies could just see them but still needed specific powers to get rid of them
>>98400675Yeah puppetry is notoriously hard to detect. While obliterating the host's soul explicitly doesn't work on the supernatural, the puppeteer guildbook has a power which lets them use the disciplines/gifts/magick of their vessel, letting you do shit like unleash your host's most vulgar spells then ditching them before the paradox hits.
>>98400708>>98400675>>98400600Nice. Ill have to read up on these for my necromancer
>>98400589Probably the same, but weirdly, spirits are explicitly SBW 2, despite supernaturals being SBW 5. Summoning spirits is just really easy for some reason.
>>98400675>most werewolves who's only hope was sense wyrm which only worked when the ghost has a lot of temporary angst it was way worse than that because werewolves need to suffer in crossover interactions: step 1. you need to manage to even suspect a thing (high perception or int roll roll) 2. you need to cast a gift at your own free will while being a puppet 3. sense wyrm only tells you that something wyrmish is going on and as you said only works if the wraith has 4 temporary angst or higher. 4. sidestepping does not end the possession (and neither does traveling to a umbra realm for mages) and most things that end bane possession don't work eithergood news being that if you have a silent strider who knows necromancy gifts (or another necromancer friendo) then after getting the wraith out you can just rip it to shreds with your claws
>>98400564>Steal some woof's kinfolk and get hunted down for life>Steal some vamp's ghoul and have a vitae addict try to shank you to deathNot the best options here
>>98400882You could summon 4 ''swarms'' of regular non-supernatural humans, however much the fuck that is, since the book doesn't define how much a swarm is.
>>98400882get 4 Satyr kinain
>>98400882The part people skip over are how summoning forces the summoned to reveal themselves, so kin with blur of the milky eye or ghouls hidden by obfuscate are suddenly visible.Binding is also separate and cast be hung to combat-cast. It's all fun and games until the bloodbond gang the prince sent after you is bound to your will and hunting the prince instead.
>>98400882>>Steal some woof's kinfolk and get hunted down for lifeSkill issue. You have to work for your upgrade
I was wondering if something would work.Path of Warding 4: Glyph of Enlightenment. This allows you to mark something with a glyph & then scry on it, speak through it, & even use Thaumaturgy through it granted it fulfills requisites like physical contact. So could you say, use Path of Conjuring to make something small & desirable like a gem, mark it with the glyph, gift it to someone, then use Thaumaturgy like Theft of Vitae/Levinbolt/Lure of Flames to kill them, then use Path of Conjuring 4 to delete the gem remotely? It seems to work on paper, just curious if im misreading anything
>>98400564I still like the idea of (with a good enough roll) summoning a plane to your location & then running off before the 9/11 hits. Nobody ever goes big enough in these games.
>sorcerers can summon space shuttles and literal Gods with no risk of paradox>Mages can't show themselves to sleeper normies teleporting a pencil from their apartment at risk of backlashMagebros...
>>98401040You could, but a competent trmere will still catch you. They have a thaum/auspex combo discipline that lets them see the residue of magic use.Chaining blood magic gets crazy. For another example: there's an anarch ritual that lets you store blood points in a crystal and treat people meditating near it as drinking vitae directly.Path of blood nectar lets you supercharge your blood so that it grants dots of physical disciplines and blood magic, but only so long as it's drunk directly from the vampire. Number of dots it can grant at a time is limited by path level.Together, they let you store nectar far above what a vampire could feasably make in a night and supercharge the drinker. This could let you build up a reserve that could be tapped later, like turning a a small army of ghouls into supercharged blood sorcerers.
>>98401087actually sorcerers cant easily do this shit in front of sleepers either, their difficulties will rise.
>>98401123>their difficulties will rise. They have the best difficulty reducing mechanics of any splat anon.

>>98401174The Real play is to master Path of Alchemy and see how many half-splat templates you can put on one mortal before they explode.
>>98401132You can reduce the difficulty by three, just like with quint. And you can never reduce more than five, assuming 5 points in the mana background. So it's... exactly the same mechanics as quint except you can also use it to reduce treshholds which I believe quint can't do?Also if you try to do this shit your ST is encouraged to say fuck you.
>>98401184Can't put kinain or spectre cultist/orphean diver on a mortal that way. You'll be missing 2 half-splats.
>>98401087>At last, after acquiring six dots in Summoning and Binding, I can at last spend the points required to learn the separate rituals of Summon A God and Bind A God in order to get a god to fight for me for one scene! >>98401191Read the mana background anon. Sorcerers are the only splat with Reverse Threshold rules. They can spend mana on something with a -3 or higher difficulty reduction to reduce success requirements, which means they get extra successes.
>>98401201>spend a point of Willpower to resist the ritual...Not a thing for sorcerers. That's a rules for nightfolk to resist True Magick anon. You just inadvertantly shat on mages even further.
>>98401216Bad news, fella.
>>98401229Lol.You could layer 10-11 binding rituals to go off at the moment of summoning to make sure though. Willpower caps at 10.Combat binding anon is still is full of shit.
>Summon Berzerker>he doesn't spend Willpower to resist because he loves fightingTruly, Nasu has solved the Riddle of Summons.
>>98401242You could also be a psychic vampire and just eat all their willpower too.
>>98401216not only can they resist it, they also get a willpower roll to just move out of it in the first place. The War Avatar (weaker than the incarnae itself) of great fenris has 15 wp btw. >>98401242willpower doesn't cap at 10 for spirits, which this deals with. In fact, a lot of powerful spirits have more than that. And I don't think any sane ST would allow something like "actually I stacked 10 different binding rituals to force the roll to go off 10 times in a row because there is no rule against that", it's clearly against RAI.
>>98401087Mages are never about raw power, but versatility.
>>98401154>at one point we been the second highest traffic thread on the boardit still effectively is? if all wh20k threads are grouped together
>>98401040For a Mage the gem would look like a grenade with he pin pulled out and if someone else was the target with correspondence and time they could easily figure out who did it.
>>98401298Most people don't have Mages with Correspondence and Time as bodyguards, and unless you're a Mage yourself, it's not very likely you know such a creature to begin with.
>>98401257>because there is no rule against thatActually, there's rules for doing exactly that. Read the hanging spell rules anon. You can force them to spend every turn resisting bindings until they run out of willpower.
>>98401257This sorcerer-fellating requires way more white-room thinking than even Magefags are guilty of. There's just so many factors that would make a sorcerer summoning a god-like spirit next to impossible in an actual game that is being played as intended, while a mage has far less hurdles to deal with. Don't get me wrong, it's still going to be difficult for the mage, but it is achievable as soon as they've got Arete 5 and Spirit 5. The sorcerer has a lot more factors to worry about before they get anywhere close to that point.
>>98401257>they also get a willpower roll to just move out of it in the first placeAnon, the ward rules don't apply to bindings, they're for warding circles.
>>98401330Honestly, it's kind of redundant when they already have Alchemy and Enchanting to really on as the main bread-winners. Sure, binding spirits is cool, but is it as cool as your full inventory of magic items?
>>98401337I mean, Yeah? It's less practical, but there's no way to top the bragging rights of saying you summoned and forced the defiler wyrm to bow and lick your shoes clean.
>>98401321>Actually, there's rules for doing exactly that. Read the hanging spell rules anon. You can force them to spend every turn resisting bindings until they run out of willpower...except the fact that you need a turn to release a hanging spell whilst the resisting thing leaves the spirits turn to do whatever. This is not "simultaneously force it to make 11 rolls" it's consecutively.
>>98401353If you're going to go that far, shove it in a ring. You've got four ring slots and one of them hasn't seen an upgrade in six years.
>>98401333Anon, he knows that. He purposefully obscured part of the sentence in his screenshot. This is him laying bait.
Wow, sorcererfags have successfully one-upped magefags as obnoxious white-room autists fabricating theoretical scenarios designed to make their pet splat look good, without any regard for how those scenarios would unfold in an actual tabletop game with an actual ST.
>>98401361Anon. Reread the post. He said spend every turn. The roll to resist binding is not reflexive, so the spirit must spend their action resisting. Both the spirit and the summoner will be forced to sit there staring at each other until either the spirit runs out of willpower or the summoner runs out of prepared spells.
>>98401377This raises a good question, though. Which splat is the best at making magic items?
>>98401121Nothing is bulletproof & it would still work against others that dont have that ability, but I just thought it would be a nice combo.I do love everything about New Age Rituals. From the blood crystal, to Apotheosis. Who ever wrote those was cooking with fire. I think if you swapped Waterwalking with Seal Shut the Gates of Blood youd have the perfect cult starter kit. Print out a bunch of amulets to gain passive vitae, make the blood crystals to bloodbond (& as you say dope your minions) itd be perfect for some new age fitness cult.>>98401298I use better tricks against Mages. Mages are easy to fuck with. Just rip off their Avatar & watch them loose it
>>98401364>You've got four ring slots
would this be a bad moment to ask how good the nwod mummy sorcerers are?i am looking for mortal magic user to use in my game and on one side don't want to deal with full mages but on the other find thaumaturges to be a bit too underwhelming
>>98401383Are you sure it's not reflexive? It doesn't say it takes an action to do this, merely that it spends the WP and thus resists.
>>98401408I still don't really understand how they work, to be honest. You get the merit, it lets you learn rituals, but it never explained what rituals. I'm probably being stupid about this but I genuinely don't know what it does.

>>98401387>Which splat is the best at making magic items?Depends on what you're willing to put up with.If you're fine with occasionally exploding? Sorcerers. If you want something fast and cheap? Blood Magi.
>>98401409That a good question. Reflexive actions are typically labelled explicitly, but willpower doesn't take actions in most cases. ST call.
>>98401387what kind? I would usually go with sorcerer based on how common they are, how strong their effects appear to be, restrictions and so on. Mages are just too rare and you need a really powerful mage to make basically any item, but after that point the rules for magic item creation lead to some insane items that the sorcerer enchantment samples generally can not match.Don't know much about mummies or vamps. Garou fetishes kind of suck and also you probably cant use them.
>>98401435>If you're fine with occasionally exploding? MagesActually I quit playing Maplestory exactly because I got mad about my items exploding on me. Are you trying to get me to quit playing life too?

>>98401387î think it was demons for powers and sorcerers for stat boosts
>>98401139Hunter the parenting
>>98401387It depends on how you qualify 'best.'While a mage requires high Prime and the appropriate Spheres to make a magic item and a sorcerer just needs Alchemy or Enchantment, once the mage has the required Spheres, they can make whatever they want with relative ease since their high Prime can just be used to convert matter into Quintessence and if they have the Matter Sphere, they can just use that to create and shape whatever reagents they need for the crafting. Meanwhile, the sorcerer does need a specific ritual for every different magic item that they want to craft and has to farm those reagents manually instead of just magically conjuring them.
Sorcerers are the kind of prep work. Plus if youre a Tremere with/backwards engineered Path of the Focused Mind 4 you can double the amount of magic youre using. You can also leash a Spectre, or have one invest you with Being so you can siphon excess Willpower too>>98401387Tremere (of course) with Demon Lore of the Forge & Anchor the Spirit, also Mummy Amulets. You can enchant a bunch of rings & pins & doodads & shove a bunch of demons in them that you Summon/Bind to get all the other Lores as well as overly tuned hyper improved gear. And you are undead, so flay yourself & break some bones & put those rings around your bones. Make sure they wont trip metal detectors either. Its much easier to rip an arm off or steal your magic rings/necklaces than it is to punch into you, find them, & remove them. The Pyramid always comes out on top
>>98401473The latest audio log is widely declared a dud for focusing on interpersonal drama instead of lore-dumping. No lore, no plot, just two characters whining about their dead relationship. /co/ stopped talking about it after a single thread.
>>98401492chapter 6 soon. There has yet to be a shitty mainline chapter so I got high hopes.
>>98401488>invest you with Being so you can siphon excess Willpower tooAnon, being is rolled with willpower. A tremere with Permanent being has potentially 20 dice to throw around ane time he uses blood magic. If he gets invested with the ww1 Castgate 1 power, he'll have unlimited access to 5 shadow dice for every roll.
>>98401502you know another chapter 5 that was declared a dud for focusing on interpersonal drama instead of lore-dumping that is also a "world of darkness"

>>98401511>it's easy, just kill BatmanIt really is.
>>98401507I know, Im just saying you can stack the deck & also drain the willpower of whatever youre summoning too. God I love Permanent Being.
>>98401478Maintenance on mage items is a bitch though. They gain paradox too, which means it needs constant cleaning, tuning, cooling, etc, to offload the byproducts of that paradox.Artifacts also require recharging if they work any of the stronger magic effects. The mechanism for getting quintessence can be a programmed rote in the item that harvests it from things like nuclear energy, but it will need to be regularly charged. This also means it can get nasty resonance build-up if the quint source is hostile though.
>>98401511You realize that Batman is a fictional character? Like, he has to win or the comics stop coming right? I get that hes known for his intelligence & planning, but Batman could catch a bullet to the head at any point & theres not much he could do to stop it.
>>98401527mages can also ape werewolves and make fetishes, which don't have paradox mechanics althougheverbeit
>>98401544At that point, the mage isn't necessary. Mortals can buy a merit to make fetishes themselves. Mages who make fetishes are basically mages admiting their magic items are crap and giving up.

>>98401582Author favoritism.
>>98401582Type advantage vs banes and demons. Blood magic paths are cheaper on xp and can bind demonic entities at a lower dot level. Demons and most banes that try to possess a vamp get fucked too.>TL;DR: Vampires make great infernalists.
>>98401387wouldn't it be possible to duplicate non-mage magic items if you have enough prime and matter plus whatever extra dots are related to it
>>98401600No. True magic can't be used to create a paradox-free static magic effect.
>>98401600Item duping is against the ToS and will get you banned eventually.
>>98401527The refuelling issue is pretty meaningless at the point where a mage can reliably craft Wonders, since his Prime will be high enough that he can just make Quintessence of the right resonance by disintegrating the appropriate matter. As for Paradox, if the individual using the Wonder is a mage, then the mage can get the Paradox instead of it building up inside of Wonder and if the mage has Prime 5, which is highly likely as Wonder creation requires high Prime, non-permanent Paradox becomes a non-issue.At the point where a mage can make powerful Wonders, which is a lot harder to reach than it is for sorcerers, the mage can circumvent a lot of the issues with Wonders.
>>98401603The act of making it might acrue paradox but iirc the penalty for permanently enchanting someone was pattern bleed if the exp cost wasn't paid. And isn't that limitation broken by the fact that fetishes are paradox-free anyways?
>>98401600even if you create the same effect your version is going to create paradox that's why the knights of saint george use sorcerer gear and alchemy on awakened mages to monster hunt

Most mages would accidentally make talismans/wonders/artifacts because that is their conception of magic items due to the lens of awakened magic, but if they had the exact pattern of a linear magic item in front of them, they would be able to replicate its pattern exactly as is.
>>98401623The question was:>Which splat is the best at making magic items? It was not:>Which splat is the best at making magic items to be used by splats other than the splat that is making the magic item?A weakness of Mage magic items is that non-mages don't have the means of dealing with the Paradox that accrues or the Quintessence fuel requirements. That is a flaw, but it's not as significant as you make it out to be, because the question didn't focus on these magic items being used by non-mages.
>>98401582Access to literally everything youd need through shenanigans, usually fairly cheap as well as the cheapest power source. Other items creators would take forever to make them. A Sorcerer using a bunch of Mana Manipulation (which would be a huge red flag for the area) can come close though. Though they still wont have good access to Blood Magic Rituals.A Tremere could theoretically make a weapon with all Demon Lores, all Disciplines, turn it into a fetish, add all kinds of other benefits, Sorcerer Enchants, etc if they put their mind to it. Of course, as soon as you make some kind of item that can do all that you might want to make sure you have a guaranteed way it cant be stolen from you. Not a lot of ways to do that that I know of off the top of my head.
>>98401672>Sorcerer 20
sorry but the mage is the superiorest splat dicksucking must continue
>>98401587A vampire could also use Summoning/Binding or Spirit Manipulation
>>98401696The point of Mage is being superior, that's why their main weakness is hubris, if they weren't excellent by their very nature it wouldn't make sense.
>>98401587couldn't a changeling just use naming to make the item a fetish directly? naming 5 unleashed is basically "do whatever".
>>98401696>"sorry but the m-ACK!!!?!?!?"
>>98401696We deserve better bait than this.
>>98401696You could be sucking Garou knot instead but here you choose to simp for egomaniacs instead of righteous egomaniacs.
>>98401704It's really what they deserve for having the worst weakness in the game.
I'm all about people having the right to explore their sexuality, but please keep your fetishes to yourselves.
>>98401717fuck you, fairy magic go. You now have a fetish for bath tiles.
>>98401616kindred have some powers that just utterly stop demons in their tracks like the koldun path related to organ pits or the lasombra combination discipline that makes them pretty much unable to touch youproblem being that those are very rare and pretty much unheard of in either of the two big sects so most kindred are limited to rooting out the cult of the demon
>>98401704>naming 5 unleashed is basically "do whatever".It gets undone by a recording of a company quarterly report financial meeting
>>98401689You can enchant an item with a blood magic ritual to be able to summon it to your hand from anywhere. Is there a good way to get hammerspace?
>>98401717No. Your fetish belongs to the sept & is only loaned to you because of your deeds & lineage.
>>98401717you don't understand, I HAVE to store quintessence in my truck's testicles
>>98401715>t. Verbena / Dreamsneeder
>>98401723>problem being that those are very rare and pretty much unheard of in either of the two big sectsUnless you're a tremere, ward vs demons is standard issue.
>>98401727>the sept elder takes all of your fetishes awaywhat even is there to live for anymore?
>>98401727Only if you're not the one who crafted it.THUERGES WIN AGAIN!
Vampires may be great at infernalism, but they get a pretty raw deal for investments, i.e. trading permanent road points for background or discipline dots.
>>98401734Sept Elder says its my turn with the feet
>>98401739Do you feel it too? The urge? The urge to theurge? Well hold back that will, dog boy. Hold it back. Theurges are worse than wizards or clerics in return for having extra spells, except you'll never run out of those spells before it's time to call it a day and go back to your haven before the sun comes up.
>>98401731Just a standard issue Rank 5 ritual that every Tremere neonate knows.
>>98401739>be renowned garou>already have 5 fetishes>theurge walks up to you at the moot>anon mcwoof for your honorable deeds I bestow upon you another fetish>now have 6 weird fetishes that are hard to satisfyplease make it stop
>>98401715You deviants disgust me
>>98401759Five Dots in the best Discipline in the game isnt hard to get anon.>>98401731Pyramid keeps winning
>>98401759Actually obscure shit is the Geomancy path that lets a Vampire reduce his difficulties on every roll to 2 permanently, not a ward spell.
>>98401731neither ward or warding circle really do much to hinder a demon it's just damage when they touch something or step over a line it doesn't even limit their power to influence thingsnow the tremere HAVE or rather HAD a ritual for that the so called "bans" which weakens or even null lores, spheres, arcanoi, disciplines etc casted outside of the banned area that tries to influence things on the inside by highering the difficulty by 4+ban level (minimum 2 maximum 5) but only one kind of magic at the time just like wards but for some god forsaken reason they kept those in the dark age despite it being a large part of what won them the war against the hermeticsa modern chantry has nothing that stops a devil from just standing outside and summoning a inferno in it
>>98401777>>98401786"Standard issue" means "given to everyone." Five dots in anything except for Willpower isn't something that is given to everyone. I know /wodg/ loves slobbering on Tremere dick, but let's not pretend that every Tremere vampire has Thaumaturgy 5.
Mage with Spirit 4 mogs
>>98401792Superiority Complex is standard issue for Tremere, along with the slut glasses.
>>98401801Don't talk shit about my glasses, asshole.
>>98401777
>>98401792Tell us what level you want to limit people when asking questions then. 5 dots of any Discipline isnt a big ask.
>>98401801The glasses are the best part, thaumaturgy is the second
>>98401693what are the exact mechanics that make revised sorcerer superior?
>>98401817They look good
Why do they always have on the obvious wizard glasses again? Isnt that a masquerade violation?
>>98401828They look cool.
>>98401828It's very easy to enchant them with lots of permanent useful magic. >Isnt that a masquerade violation?Standard ones come with Arcane 1 pre-installed.
>>98401828it's far from a masquerade violation if you see a guy with sun glasses outside at night would you think he is a vampire? no you would think he is a dork or a crackheadwhat they are is something that can let professional hunters like the society of leopold target them if they notice the pattern, but these guys already know about kindred anyway
>>98401810Look, man, I'm sorry to break it to you but your glasses are a dirty whore. They'll ride on any Tremere they come across.
>>98401821>Unless you're a tremere, ward vs demons is standard issue. This implies that every Tremere knows Ward versus Demons, a five-dot ritual. No one needs to state a specific power level for that to come across as retarded. In an actual chronicle and not just your power fantasies, Thaumaturgy 5 characters are actually rare.
>>98401729Can't a nigga simply be a Hermetic with exotic tastes?>>98401767This one is pretty layered I have to say
>>98401828Please explain how they are "obvious".

>>98401852Clock Tower 3 concept art, it's a very silly game.
I personally imagine that you have to violently tardwrangle every single hermetic into not putting on their wizard robes & hat.

Okay, so I think ive smashed enough things together to get the best crafted weapon you could ask for, piling everything together. The Dark AthameA jet black knife/sword>Changeling Treasures 5 for every Art contained in a ring on the hilt or gemstone>access to all Demon Lores 5 dots as a hilt ring>Imprisoned Wraith granting 5 dots to all Arcanoi>A Wraith Artifact 5 hilt ring>A Garou Fetish 5 hilt ring>+5 damage>+5 accuracy>-5 difficulty>cant be dodged>hits spirits & ghosts>can attack from range, any distance as long as you can see them>enchanted with every Ward vs. Thaum Ritual>enchanted with Path of Warding 3 glyph that deals (Successes x2 Agg damage) to whoever touches it except the owner>Blade of the Forbidden Flower for all Vampire Disciplines at 8>Flaming Sword of Mars>Verdant Blade>Enchant Talisman>could have sworn there was a ritual to make the weapon drink Vitae when it hits but couldnt find the nameTheres probably some extra small time rituals & buffs you could add & invest into it. Mostly the idea is to construct it in parts so that each component is its own buff that comes together in a whole beyond just the Sorcerer Enchanting 6 benefits to pure damage
