The Lucifer Blacks were Imperial Army elites (who had already been disbanded before the start of the HH series, and only continued as an honor guard for VIPs). They would look closer to the Solar Auxilia than any 40k regiment or Scions.

You can still have fun but you’re going to have to go into the games with a different mindset, approach the game as an insane mode match knowing that your countered that way you don’t feel bad if you lose. Could still make it fun that way.

Sometimes people just start out in the WAACfag phase of their player careers. These types feel desperate to succeed at the hobby because they don't want to feel like they wasted their time and money building an army only to get their teeth kicked in on the table. Many grow out of this early WAACfag phase as they realize the game part of 40k is the least interesting and fun part of the hobby. Of course, if you're unlucky, it's not a phase.

>>
>>98395865
The true Lucifer Blacks were disbanded even before the start of the HH novels. They were reduced to an honor guard force that manned the walls of the Imperial Palace and escorted VIPs. After the Heresy, only a handful were left, and the name Lucifer Blacks was recycled as a new Imperial Guard regiment that garrisoned the Palace. So there's three distinct Lucifer Blacks:
>Great Crusade-era Lucifer Blacks, the real deal, the hardest of the hard and the baddest of the bad in the Imperial Army.
>Heresy-era Lucifer Blacks, demobilized and given an honorary post on Terra as Palace guard. Was supposed to be an easy, relaxed assignment for living legends of the Great Crusade to enjoy a well-deserved pseudo-retirement, scaling down recruitment. Didn't turn out as expected.
>Post-Heresy Lucifer Blacks, after being effectively wiped out to a man in the Siege, the name is handed to a new regiment formed after Guilliman reformed the Imperial Army into the Imperial Guard. Almost no relation to the previous Lucifer Blacks other than the name and their post, being Terra. Most likely wiped out multiple times since then and rebuilt from scratch. Theoretically elite by IG standards, but in practice they're probably sub-Scion level.

What does this even mean???

There are only a small handful of strategems that are actually worth using. Almost all of them are hyper niche and... basically spoonfeed you on when to use them

If your friend has played any other game where he has needed to rub 2 brain cells together 40k is easy as piss
>>

Deldar keep getting cheaper and cheaper to field, which is a blessing and a curse. We’ve needed better balance because it seemed like our decent, non-battleline units were expensive and didn’t pack enough power for the points they took up. However, now we’re getting point gaps to fill and there’s really nothing great to fill them with. Add a haemonculus to fill that 50 point void or a lone cronos? Either way you have a single guy doing nothing. Hopefully GW gives us some love and gives us a refresh with new units. Or, ffs, bring my grotesques back!!!

My question:
Do you have names for the captcha shapes? I name them things like “hammer”, “duck”, “double-duck”, “baby rattle”

He is totally new to tabletop wargaming in the past 3 months or so. The closest before this is PC strategy games (he's big into Total War).
It just feels odd that with that little window and lack of prior experience he ONLY brings extremely potent almost specifically-built counters to what I have. No fluff units, no "I just like it," only "good" units.

They're savage orks but 40k, which means that they're somewhat more tribal than other orks and prefer simpler things, but also aren't completely lacking in tech level.
>Riding beasts is better than riding vehicles.
>Hunting big game (monsters/tanks) is better than bashing smaller stuff.
>80% brutal and 20% cunning, instead of 20/80 or 50/50.
The focus on prosthetics is there because their hunt and ride preferences come with a lot of encounters with stuff that bites stuff off you.
Snaggas as a concept is slightly separate from snakebites so that you can have these ork types in any other klan, just how you can have lootas that aren't deffskulls, flash gits that aren't bad moons, speed freaks that aren't evil suns, or kommandos that aren't blood axes, even if those klans do have a better affinity with those units (a batter way to look at it is how all marines have flamer, bike, and stealth units even though they're respectively the salamanders', white scars and raven guard's "things")

Yvraine was a repurposed Lady Malys model. The Visarch was going to be an Incubus special character or a Corsair Prince mini, one of the two. The Yncarne was going to be an Avatar of Cegorach, hence why it's got Slaaneshi aspects (Cegorach sometimes disguises himself as Slaanesh, just like Solitaires do). That's why they're all ill-fitting for the faction they're supposed to represent, the whole thing was a rushjob by the retarded CEO who nearly ruined 40k.
The Corsairs got theirs back though, as the Corsairs box was originally going to be a Battleline unit for the Ynnari and got repurposed as Corsairs after Ynnari were completely reviled by the entire fanbase.

Orks 100% should be about ramshackle Mad Max technology, with some looted technology from other races scattered here and there. They should not be about primitive animal shit, we have Exodites for that. I admit that Ork animal shit is about gross and ugly animals like pigs, while Exodites are about dinosaurs and birds, but absolutely Orks have a clear identity as Mad Max guys.

How does a race have a low birth rate anyway? Never made sense to me, do their women just not ovulate? Are they all impotent? Species don't get large populations without having a good birth rate. Could it be their birth rate collapsed? But then it sounds like they're doing things specifically to bring it up, so it implies some sort of biological thing.

Playing on tabletop simulator strips out all of the fun of your dudes in my opinion. Someone getting into it through that only would just google what units they should take and then run go from there.

Maybe next time you could make it a pure narrative mission with a bunch of cool asymmetrical stuff. Or just do combat patrols to start with if you are just learning the game.

Hopefully when you sit down and play IRL it clicks that 40k is multiple hobbies in a trenchcoat, and that when you combine them all that is where the big fun is. But when its just tabletop simulator the point of playing is to win because the rest of the hobby is gone in my opinion.
>>
>>98396200
making them all faction-agnostic means you can make /yourdudes/ be whatever composition of Ork units you want, or you can do zany shit like making a Snaggas-heavy Bad Moons army because the Warboss lost his mind, it's a good move for personalization. God knows 40k is running short on customization and personalization options ever since 10th dropped

As I recall women are rarer to be born, like the primary ancestor gods had 2 men married to the same woman for instance. The other huge one is culture. The dwarfs are stubborn autistic retards. They wont let their daughters fuck just anyone. So what you have is a small number of daughters born for every man. Probably why they are so pissy. Huge amount of men competing for small amount of women. Hell you cant even be chad and get casual pussy.
>>
>>98396213
>How does a race have a low birth rate anyway?
lack of resources:
dwarfs live underground and a large part of the infrastructure that supported their empire at its peak has collapsed
eldar in 40k are limited by the availability of spirit stones, without whom they simply choose not to bring a child to life because it means damning it

it's less clear in hams but hams -sometimes- uses the tolkein lore that dwarf females are kept jealously and few in number, but sometimes they forget this lore like with the imperial dwarf chick in that game about Asavar Kul and the war of 2302

Or how Norse Dwarfs have social equality and every Norse Dwarf king also has a Regnant Queen reigning alongside him, while dwarf kings of the Eternal Realm usually reign alone and Chaos Dwarf Sorcerors enslave femdwarfs to breed as much as possible.

The Tau are probably the hardest to make a

argument for

Arguably the Hrud, who may be as numerous as Orks, would be a better addition as their lore is cooler than the Tau.

But the Kroot asa standalone army can be 'everywhere' since their space tech is more advanced than Tau.

Votann are in the Core but their kindreds go out into the galaxy to search for rare minerals to bring back to their strongholds. GW is just retarded and doesn't emphasize the marauding nature of Votann resource fleets enough.

None of my fun wins have been stomps, and none of my fun losses have been stomps either. It's in how the win/loss happens for me, I don't like the matches to feel like one-sided stomps too early on, both players should feel like there's a chance of being something beyond meat targets for bullets.

No. He didn't. The Swarmlord attacked Calgar with its Tyrant Guard in the first fight. Calgar was overwhelmed.
In the second fight, the Tyrannic veterans isolated and herded the Swarmlord toward Calgar. It was a true 1 v 1. The text says that Calgar defeated the Swarmlord with HIS BARE HANDS.

The Swarmlord cheats. Look at how it fought the Overfiend. Round one, when the Overfiend cornered it, the Swarmlord got beaten up and torn in half.
In the second fight, the Swarmlord refused to engage the Overfiend. It swarmed him with powerful bioforms until he was too wounded and exhuasted to put up a fight against it and then it attacked him and killed him.

Since anon is a bitch and won't deliver here is the text from 6th ed Marine codex:

>Sensing its prey was about to escape, the Swarmlord plunged into the fray alongside a horde of elite hive-warriors, cutting a path straight towards Calgar. The Lord of Ultramar stood his ground, laying waste to xenos horrors with every swing of his fists. But the Tyranids were too many, and Calgar’s body was rent and torn. When he came face-to-face with the Swarmlord, he was on the verge of death, yet still would not yield. Locked in a mortal duel, they fought like mythic gods, and though Calgar struck with his last ounce of strength, he was laid low by the monster’s blades.

The Swarmlord cheated. It only engaged Calgar after he was on the verge of death after fighting a swarm of elite Tyranids. It was not a 1 v 1.

>But you made the claim that Calgar's honor guard, though. It's not in the text I am seeing in front of me.
Any source which argues Calgar's honor guard was not present and protecting him from the Tyrant Guard is tacitly wrong. It's quite literally pivotal to that battle. In fact, it was Commander of the Honor Guard Aloysius who held the Swarmlord and the Tyrant Guard at bay long enough for the Ultramarines to medevac Calgar.
>Where did you get it? Are you pretending to be retarded? We need to iron that out before I post the text.

Here's 9th edition's rendition:
>At Cold Steel Ridge, the Tyranid swarms massed so thickly that such tactics could not hold them at bay. It was during this battle that the Ultramarines faced the most dangerous Tyranid creature yet
encountered. Codenamed the Swarmlord, this enhanced Hive Tyrant displayed strategic acumen equal to the Ultramarines’ and began to overrun the Adeptus Astartes’ positions. Knowing that to remain planetside would doom his warriors in the field, Calgar ordered gunships to extract the Ultramarines to the orbiting battle barge Octavius. Sensing its prey was about to escape, the Swarmlord plunged into the fray alongside a horde of elite hivewarriors, cutting a path straight towards Calgar and engaging the Chapter Master in a brutal duel. Calgar and his Honour Guard fought like gods of war, but even they were sorely mauled and survived only thanks to the timely arrival of the evacuation gunships. Marneus Calgar would live to fight on, but Cold Steel Ridge was lost.
That's two codexes saying it was a duel with the Honor Guard protecting him, against your one saying the Swarmlord "cheated" and the Honor Guard were nowhere near. Lel. You're so full of shit.

I've posted a list in a CASUAL listbuilding channel and had people start grilling me over including unit X over Y because it's less "efficient"

>had people start grilling me over including unit X over Y because it's less "efficient"
Yea, I've had that a few times; I wanted to add a few Hippogriffs to my guard army because I like the fantasy of armored cars proceeding a tank assault and got the "why even play it" response. Some people just can't have fun unless they win, and that was the crux of my initial ask.
>had people get personally offended because I said that I tone it down playing casually with my friends
I had a similar response with my friend over this; he got mad at me trying to bring this point up, that I intentionally pick units because I like them, not because they're good, and he insisted that "he just likes the good units" and didn't understand why someone would want to play weaker units "for fun."
>>98397542
Also fair assessment, I've never played meta in PC strategy games either, I always build armies of units I think look cool, meta be damned, and I usually lose because of it.

>get all the models painted in the specific way they want (faction colors)

>get photographs at the correct angles
>have someone compile the separate models together into a cohesive scene

or they can just hire one artist who can pump out a barely-above-a-sketch tier piece of art with a couple of prompts in an afternoon

as cool as they look, people like seeing art depicting their dudes in ways they wouldn’t necessarily see on the tabletop, and it allows poses and situations that wouldn’t work with a model in a position intended to be actively charging, shooting your gun, yelling, or just standing. pic related is a good example. notice how the tau are flinching backward from the orks, and the battlesuit is turning around to shoot an ork at its side. these poses just wouldn’t work if they were standard models.

Maybe it is why Games Workshop doesn't show the Warhammer 40k Salamanders and their chapters that much because of social media sensitivity? And they're usually helmeted.
I think this is why someone on the Warhammer Plus Pariah Nexus team made the right call to have Sa'kan deez nutz have an East Asian looking face.

I think you both are correct.
It is probably a meme style of miniature photos that the fans get annoying about constantly preaching how good they are too, but I'll like them even if they get dumbed down badly like Steampunk did.
Or grimdark paintstyles and Blanchtisu painting styles.

I am thinking of utilizing abominable intelligence to analyze these images and hopefully the chatbot machine spirit will spew out the proper steps for me to make these pictures.
Using Affinity Photo (free to download and use like GIMP but hopefully better) on Linux

The Horus Heresy "digitized dioramas" for lack of a better term are one of the few things that stop me from trying painting styles outside the basecoat+wash or 'eavy metal but no highlights style instead of trying something like cel shaded or comic book style miniature painting. I don't think comic book style or cel shaded would work for such photo editing.
Yet I want to try the other styles after seeing a thread up about it. Was oddly civilized there but it isn't a hard bar to meet compared to this place.

Nothing. Other than it's primaris.
They did fine with the transition to primaris by mixing armour marks, just like the old kit.
Would utterly ruin them to add dogshit like phobos.
>>
>>98397645
>Nothing.
So why are you opposed to the idea of replacing the Phobos design with what the Blood Claws got? Maybe drop the extra plates from the forearms (like on Phobos) and thighs to lighten the armour a little more. There, a perfectly suitable "light" power armour for sneaking without looking like someone ran out of the armoury wearing a half-finished suit.

I dislike phobos armor in the same reason I dislike space marine scouts.
I would prefer space marines to just be heavily armored killing machines stealth be damned.
Their boltguns should have been the standard boltgun pattern. Or at the very least the default botlgun should have been the compact godwyn but with the cawl cylinder to differentiate it.

>>98397628
I remember talking about space marines being milked with "sanctus space marines" and "nihilus space marines" where the sanctus were the regular primaris marine armors and sanctus was a mishmash of different patterns cobbled together because supply logistical ships being raided/lost to the warp forcing tech heresy jury rigging.

NTA but I find the whole "wholesome chungus marines dey just the sweetest cinnamon roll" shtick of sallies really fucking boring and way overwanked. To me it's the equivalent of people who want to play anti-chaos chaos marines.

The Lamenters are really the only marines I give that sort of woobie bullshit a pass for because the universe is constantly kicking them in the dick for their benevolence but they keep at it anyways. Sallies have way too much plot armor and have never really had their ideals tested the way Lamenters have, so their benevolence just comes across as performative and overblown.
>>
>>98397657
I misread what you were saying. I read that as "put blood claws in phobos" (barf).
But it wouldn't work anyway since Blood Claws are just wearing mixes of old Mk VI and Mk VII with MK X. The poses are literally just the Assault Intercessors with a few extra bits stuck on in CAD.
>>
>>98395995
If gun to my head you asked me to fix this box but still include the sniggas, I'd probably do
>squighog riders upgrade sprue kill team for orks for some neato mirror matches, maybe with some unique hunting squigs included
>give them a more brutal ramming version of the unique movement Exodites get
>sniggaboyz and some ambulls (or fantasy critters even) as NPOs, with the narrative justification being they're interrupting the Squighog KT's hunt with their shenanigans so they're just as much an enemy as the ambulls and exodites
>>
>>98397677
>Blood Claws are just wearing mixes of old Mk VI and Mk VII with MK X
It's just MkX with some MkX helmet variants (despite the face plate, they still got the extended ears, etc.) The Sternguard kit comes with an actual MkVII helmet without the MkX style elements to it. Phobos already got knee pads without the flare and single piece greaves without knee pads are not unique to the MkVI. There's MkV and even MkIII armour with them.

I'd rather the snagga boyz get an upgrade kit with harpoon guns or whatever so the Firing Deck on Kill Rigs and Hunta Rigs stops being a total waste of time.

Though really the Kill Rig needs the Wurr boy to scale in power based on how many orks it's transporting.
>>
>>98397705
Yeah I'd be down with that too. Honestly you could probably upgrade sprue BOTH and make a decent kill team
>harpoon boys immobilize enemies to make them easier for squighogz to ram
>can bring the smasha squig nob or the footslogger nob, but not both
>you also can't bring a full complement of pooners and hoggers to KT, so you have to choose whether you want more tactical options, more fast paced brutality, or a steady balance of both

Poonerboy ork kill team and they're all just shorter and weaker than regular orks.

why is everyone still hating on the snaggas, a beastboss + snaggas squad is almost in every army so it definitely hasnt failed (granted with the recent green tide spam that hasnt been the case). mozrog is a popular choice, wortsnagga is in many armies and squighogs come and go. the only one that isnt popular is probably the kill rig
>>

>tfw it excludes firing deck

big shootas already have rapid fire 2, so this only improves the lobba and kannon / zzap gun, which all hit on 5s. fuckin horrible strat
>>
gsc bros, how'd you get through so many neophyte squads without blowing your brains out?
>>
>>98397816
Probably because the Snagga boys themselves are a very basic kit without a lot of options. Boyz get rokkits and big shootas, with kombi-weapons, power klaws and big choppas on the nob while snaggas just have one grenade launcher and a wimpier power klaw on the boss and monster killer rules that don't really fit the weapons they have. An upgrade kit that added monster hunter weapons like harpoon guns, grenade spears, hook claws etc. would do a lot to give the unit appeal.
>>
>>98397838
id be open to an upgrade sprue, maybe give those special weapons assault as all this unit is doing is charging shit. harpoon guns and grenade spears with an anti vehicle profile with at least -2 ap would be great, -1 ap is futile atm. given that they are basing around the old skarboys units i cant remember if they were given access to rokkits and big shootas back then

If a transport remained stationary, you can disembark, then move or advance, shoot, and charge (following normal rules for charge/run/shoot limitations).

If a transport made a normal move, you can disembark, you can shoot and perform an action, but you cannot charge.

If a transport advanced, you can not disembark.

If a transport is destroyed, you emergency disembark, which is being placed as close as possible and becoming automatically battleshocked without a test.

Nope, it'd do the opposite since now they have an example to retardedly extrapolate against.
>Well since Gorkly Clappymorkly can do it, that means any ork with a sufficient WAAAAAGH level can!
>this means even the smallest grot can affect all of reality with sufficient WAAAAAGH preptime!
You need to understand how these powerscaler retards work and realize that giving them an inch allows them to flanderize a mile.

So what's the Dark Mech's relationship with the Omnisiah? Do they just trade the Emperor with the chaos gods in regard to who they see as an aspect of the Onmisiah?

They just worship vashtorr, the concept of the omnissiah is discarded.

Why can’t knights actually have swords?
>>
>>98398884
>>98398890
Dark Mech originate as a schism where some of the AdMech still believed the Emperor and Omnissiah are two different things. Lots of them got infected with scrapcode and lost their shit, or completely fell to Chaos and said fuck the Omnissiah like the other Anon said. Even still, Hereteks run the gamut from just renegade Tech-Priests that got pushed out to anyone that questions doctrine too much or just being affiliated with the wrong asshole at the wrong time.
>>
>>98398902
They do????
>>
>>98398908
That’s not a sword, and I meant actually wielding it. Not having it be integrated as part of their frame.
>>
>>98398884
>>98398906
You could probably have darkmech who claim Vashtorr is the omnissiah, who think he's just a fragment of the omnissiah the same way the Emperor was supposed to be, or who think the omnissiah has yet to reveal himself to them. The galaxy is your oyster, fuck it how you please!

the original knight designs went out with colony ships during the Dark Age of Technology, they were intended to be maintained relatively easily with parts they could manufacture with STCs so really complex mechanical digits weren't something they wanted to invest in

The grey knight codex that introduced the dreadknight literally called its doomfists "dreadnought-sized power fists", and the same doomfists were equipped by their normal dreadnought as well.

They're power fists, as much if not more than the knight titan's.
