>TQAs of right now, just the Great Goblin and Orcist
>>98409443>Any new cards from the Hobbit you're putting in your decks?Nope
>>98409443TQ Yes. Smaug going in a red deck with Knuckles. Bilbo's Sword going in a mono green Toski deck. Hope to get a copy of the One Ring reprint to slump into whatever deck I feel like. theres others too but I cant think of them off the top of my head. lots of good stuff, since Tolkien influenced MTG so heavily this is basically the best "in-universe" set since they changed the card borders (2013?)
>>98409443Is that... LAND RAMP?AIEEEE HOW CAN I COUNTER THIS WITHOUT MLD???
>>98409493this but unironically its also not ramp since you need 8 mana to cast it
>>98409493I'm going to enjoy seeing you seethe for the next 5 threads.
>>98409501>Puts more lands onto the battlefieldIt's land ramp
>>98409472reposting this here so that gooner doesnt miss it>>98409362what colors? this is my favorite>>98409409this is a great suggestion too for white.if in black you also get Opposition Agent which is on the "game changer" list, and in paper its kind of awkward to be manhandling other peoples cards. if youre on MTGO though its a great option and a much better experience to playbut yeah I went through a phase of that wanting to destroy green land tutor ramping. theres also stuff like Narset's Reversal where you can return the spell but get to copy it so YOU get to ramp the lands.Just make sure the search target is valid, ie "a basic land" instead of a Forest and you have no forests in there or even duals with basic types like Breeding Pool.theres also cards to be able to steal spells in other ways but they're usually not super mana efficient like Knowledge Exploitation. Mind's Dilation a similar idea (and guaranteed to make your opponents, cope seethe and feel the need to dilate)
>>98409503if you already have 6 lands and a sol ring you arent ramping anymoreramping is getting ahead of the +1 mana source (land play) per turn standard
>>98409519heh heh heh, nuthin personell kid
thinking of heading down to one of the LGS in my town. last 3 times I've went there I couldn't find any randos to play with, and gas is back up to just under $4 a gallon.seems like a waste of time potentially. but theres no point building these decks in paper if there taint no one to play against
>>98409521>It doesn't count because... it just doesn't!
>>98409544it doesn't count because the reason given. learn how to read and use reading comprehension dummy

Assume owner of enchanted creature decides "target opponent"?Also if I put this on some hot potato ouchie on upkeep creature, which of the upkeep triggers happens first?
>>98409578>which of the upkeep triggers happens first?Whichever ones the controller wants.
>>98409501>destroying only basics in the nonbasics eraoh im laffin

>>98409554ill repeat it a 3rd time for you brain dead moron. its not ramp because its not putting you ahead of the normal mana curve. by the time you have 8 mana available its mid-game. its not ramp. try to get that through your thick skull
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
this is MLD. prove me wrong
>>98409746this has been debunked
>>98409739>Um, actually putting 20 lands onto the battlefield doesn't put you ahead of the curve because... it doesn't!
>>98409762at best you being a probable mana-weaver would get 10 lands. emrakul is banned. are you gonna cast this with 15 counters? the science is settled its not ramp. you lose do not pass go do NOT collect $200
Any creature should be eligible as commander, legendary or not
>>98409755>an opponent controlsdoes not pass gavin's criteria of "each player" so this is in fact NOT mld :)
>>98409789you can do that if you want. although this is said to have a pseudo-errata to be legendary. also no. commanders should cost 6 mana minimum to be in line with the Elder Dragons. Its elder dragon highlander not Kird Ape Llanowar Elves king of the hill game
>>98409755All this does is force them to tap all their lands in response and play everything in the same phase. Doesn't deny them anything.
>>98409775>Ramp is the process of spending mana on one turn to have more mana on all future turns>This card does that>I-It's not ramp!

Would rule zero and no bans work if competitive formats still had people playing them so commander could stay casual?
>>98410378no
>>98410170Glad to be remembered. I ordered the cards today, so no more new designs.
>>98410293No one runs interaction or blocks using their value engines, it's not my fault.
>>98410191I cant tell wh is the commander. but im guessing its vampire assassin tribal. mono black is somewhat hard to do in my opinion. looks like it has what it needs but nothing really jumps out to me. always gotta have cabal coffers +urborg tomb in mono black. + exsanguinate and drain life for alternate finishers and mana sinks
>>98410309yeah im thinking this may be the move. so what you just need a tripod to mount a camera? and from what I understand spell table can use your smartphone so it connects as the camera. seems like you would want a big external monitor to see people's tables though. and a decent sized table or computer desk to play at. like bigger than a normal computer deskalso I assume its Mac compatible, is it just a web interface or some external programalso, the first thing that came to my mind with webcam paper magic is how often do people expose their genitals on there? definitely dont want to deal with retards
hi, could i get deck advice/recommendations? i'm new to playing commander and i made a deck that i've been playtesting for a week with some cards i had and others i'm buying/getting slowlywhere can i post my deck and would you guys be able to give me recommendations or is there a tool that gives it?
>>98410448There are sites to post your decks on in the op. Whenever coming to a general, read the op.
>>98410445I actually use convoke more than spelltable so I don't know if they have the same feature, but it has a setting where you have a main board your focusing on and the rest on the side, so I just click whichever board I want to see full screen out of the 4. For a camera I just use a cheap webcam I have hooked up with a connector to an adjustable microphone stand I got for $20 on Facebook marketplace. The harder part of it for me at least was finding a bright enough light that didn't glare to illuminate my board state in my basement hovel. So far nobodies flashed me but the ability to scoop instantly with basically no drawbacks means it's a lot like arena where people will just concede the second they're inconvenienced
>>98410445>>98410505Web btw I forgot, so there's no bloatware to play which is nice. I enjoy it more than my LGS to be honest, and I don't even live in the boonies. People play faster and know my cards better than I do in most cases.
>>98410505Given that one retard can waste 45 minutes of your life, I would probably also scoop the moment I'm inconvenienced if playing with randoms.

I need to build a comboslop deck. I'm thinking either:>Jund reanimate hulk/broodmaster >the same thing with U for counters and spellseeker lines>dark naya for the same thing with Grand Abolisher effects instead
I don't understand why she's so popular. 4 life per cycle seems like a lot. You're basically winning atp anyway if you're doming for 4 each turn. 3cmc also seems like a lot. Can't really abuse it or go infinite. Is it just esperslop with a catgirl? Really?
>>98410700Protection spells get so much worse when players reveal their removal and ask who else has removal in order to coordinate around counterspells. Makes the game so much better. But nope everyones all like myeah I can't give any of my opponents anything ever!
>>98410170>read this as Welcome to the Foidthats enough internet for one day
>>98410726>4 life per cycle seems like a lotit absolutely is not in most pods. you must be stuck in some sort of pilowfort meta if it isn't. in which case you can also just do it to yourself easily
>>98410726She is a inexpensive (both money and mana) precon commander that draws you cards for anybody advancing the game forward, and she is also a cute anime catgirl that is a major protag in a highly popular MMORPG. >>98410573thats a great idea. cedh is cancer. bracket 4 but actually casting and playing commander with powerful cards is the new "competitive" (still fun and casual but playable in a tournament setting) format. aka S-CDR [strategic commander]. No double commanders no thassa must cast your commander at least once to win
>>98410726>4 life seems like a lotits not, and you don't even need to do the damage to do the draw. They pay life for something, you draw. Player A attack player DYou draw. She's a do nothing, get rewarded commander.

>>98410833So this is basically a 5 color card?
>>98410847We don't fully know how it works. It can either be, you have to pick Blue and Green, for example, or you can run any amount of UX instants and sorceries.I'm inclined to believe the latter, but WotC hasn't spoken on it to make it more clear yet.
>>98410847No. As reads you can have WRBG instants or sorceries and any type of basic land. You can't even have non-basic lands that tap for non-blue.
>>98410875How does choose ONE additional color equal to five colors?
>>98410879It doesn't say you have to choose one additional color, just that it can have instants and sorceries that are one additional colors.Which, most are inferring that means you can have any combination of UX.
>>98410887You can have blue and one other color. That's it.
>>98410891Again, it does not say you must choose one additional color.
>>98410847No. Put simply, you do have to "choose a color" like the Prismatic Piper, but this choice only applies to the card's color, not color identity. You can choose Red and run Lightning Bolt, or even Ancient Grudge, but since you chose Red you can't run Simic Charm. You can run any basic for shingles. This is according to official wotc rules accounts. It's worthlessly confusing and a sign of how intellectually bankrupt wotc is.

Ignoring the obligatory conversation about niggers and how terrible they are to be printed onto magic cards, what cards do you reckon would be “must include” cards for this commander? I sometimes wonder if people here realize that "cEDH" is not a nebulous separate format with different rules, and pretty much every cEDH deck is built on some amount of fundamentals that transfer downward in every level of play, including across brackeys (you know, concepts like "drawing cards is good" and "win conditions are useful"). The principles driving Kraum/Tymna don't disappear if you ban partner. 5c slop with almost no reliance on the commander predates partner as a mechanic (it has been a thing in cEDH since Cromat, but took off as the dominant strategy in Innistrad when Hermit Druid and Lab Man made for an easy wincon). I'm not going to say you should thank angleshooting assholes for ruining casual games, but what cEDH does is expose how the format probably does need more firm regulation if you want to preserve "non-cEDH" gameplay beyond hoping Timmy doesn't have his one bad day and decide to try stomping games by googling "competitive bracket 3".

>>98411263A guy that>leaves thinking to his black wife>got raped by a witch>got turned into a elk and shot>got rescued by his rapebabies>got killed by interdimensional aliensIs still preferable to anything marvel has done in the last 2 decades.
>>98411306>how the format probably does need more firm regulationthe only way this can be done in practice is to limit when players can go infinte/thoracle, hence why the lgs implements b3 as just "no mld and no popping off until t7" for example
>>98411306To be fair, cedh does have its own idiosyncratic meta dynamics to the point that it's not invalid to consider a separate format. Yes general mtg rules apply. Another difference is simply expensive cards. People don't want to admit it, and proxies do negate this point, but there is a steep "cost" threshold to merely play the format. Another issue is the archetype meta. Every single deck is turbo-combo. I think this is what turns people off the most. Every deck in the format seeks to puke mana rocks, play value/draw and tutor into a combo, then fight over the stack. Some people dont like that. Take a format like Legacy. Almost every evergreen mtg archetype is represented and certainly playable. cedh is merely "what color combo deck do you want to play?" Hell, the format is so fast and tight even stax is no longer viable. It's homogeneous and boring. The nature of edh itself gets strained when pushed to a blistering competitive degree. Multiplayer presents a game theory dynamic that subverts the whole purpose. When the 1st and 4th seat have a 25%+ winrate difference, the format is critically flawed. I like to play it sometimes with my friends, less so in recent years, but it's totally understandable why people want it to be considered a separate format, even if that's defined by social preference or a discreet banlist. Might just be the cedh players. They can be insufferable elitists.
Realistically, how would the format change with this being made a game changer?

>>98411343Except this clearly hasn't held true in any format, even Vintage where the rules forbid banning cards. It's just that EDH specifically has a long history of being regulated exceptionally poorly so players think it's unavoidable because they haven't internalized how large a functional banlist would have to be.>>98411357This is a combination of a large number of factors but the most prominent ones are the twofold that decks generally need to undergo some form of exponential scaling to win because the life you need to get through is 6x what most cards are designed around, and the banlist is exceptionally poor so the best enablers for this exponential playstyle get to remain and suppress competition even further. Rhystic Study staying grandfathered in just because it's the poster child for "terrible 1v1 card great in 4p format" is basically the equivalent of grandfathering Hermit Druid in Legacy because it was bad in Type 2, no matter how much it damages the format. At some point the RC should have pulled the trigger but they never did which is why it got this bad to the point most players genuinely don't understand how drawing 30 cards off Necropotence could even make Oops All Grizzly Bears win most games, and these players think decks geared towards exploiting this somehow aren't playing the same game.
>>98411471C-Sphinx is a completely different card with a completely different payoff. It's a powerful effect. It's also non-permanent. If it eats shit before you pass you get nothing out of it.>>98411477Etali in casual is a slot machine. It's an inarguably powerful effect but short of CEDH and decks built to flicker/clone/combo off it's a card with a low floor and a high ceiling. Prime Time is consistently powerful and preys on the sacred cow of lands being untouchable in casual. Every time it enters or swings you've permanently +2'd yourself for the rest of the game. And that's before even taking into account that it's always THE BEST 2 LANDS IN YOUR DECK.
>>98411498gavin has already been upfront about not wanting to have a large banlist, hell if he had even an inkling of it he would've outlined every single mld card he hates, this ship has long sailed
>>98411503>...sphinx dies to removal!reminder that if primetime eats shit you get something like this, ooooh broken
>>98411513But you did get something. You always get something. And if you clone it, blink it, reanimate it, you get it again and again and again. Far easier to abuse and cheat the cost on a body than a 6-mana sorcery. It rapidly snowballs.
>>98411504I agree there's a large divergence from what the format should do and what it will do. However I think trying to maintain a small banlist in the name of "minimizing complexity" or "allowing flexibility" is a strategy that runs out of steam after a certain point. This game is really hard to play with randoms because the rules just don't facilitate fun gameplay and nowhere was the more obvious than with the 2020 banwave because tons of players were playing online with randoms for the first time and actually encountering all the unfun shit their local friendgroup wasn't using. A similar pattern emerged in Dead By Daylight where the winner is basically decided by who wants to play like the bigger asshole which obviously leads to players getting frustrated and quitting. EDH obviously has a lot more insulation against this because most people never play it outside groups of people they know, but at the same time I don't think it's a good framework even with that knowledge.
>>98411516>but but these magical christmasland scenarios!at best primetime is still worse than rhystic and at worst he's just a BRO bulk rare, imagine being this afraid of a timmy card that just be another piece for lumra cedh

>>98411518>This game is really hard to play with randomsnot at all, like i said earlier >>98411343the best way to play is actually NOT to care about whatever combo might kill you like some petty authoritarian, because nobody actually cares if you thoracled turn 15; brackets are all about "when is the right time to pop off" which in itself is a casual question
>>98411528a basic game action is>drawing a card>casting a spell>sacrificing a permanentmeanwhile your blinks and reanimates and clone spells are gumming up your deck like the timmy you actually are
Burgeoning is 2 Prime Times from turn 1 why does nobody ask for 5 mana on turn 2 to be banned but somehow Hour of Promise for 6 mana is too strong?
>>98411498because people don't play necro as a draw spellI'd like to honestly but no. its used for searching through the deck for all the slop pieces for a generic cedh comboevery draw on rhystic is literally telegraphed. and jeska's will and other cards punish it
Who asked him a question in his latest video?
>>98411535hour of promise is actually 5 mana which is hilarious
>>98411532B2-3 is where Prime Time actively shits up the game. It's precluded from B2 but not B3, but both brackets are casual. They're also where Prime Time is at its most overcentralizing. Anything above those brackets is irrelevant when considering bans/unbans because the game warps into something completely different.
>>98411541the fact that rhystic is also overcentralizing and it remains a GC (where are your tears btw) only means there's precedent and tick-tock-tick-tock buddy boy it's only a matter of time
>>98411548Rhystic Study is complete slop and 100% should be banned, so that's not really the argument you want it to be.
>>98411550i actually like rhystic not only because i like powerful cards but also because its existence makes it easier for me to argue for what wotc actually wants edh to be for its bottom line (such as unbanning primetime to sell packs and also to further demarcate b2 and b3), thanks sheldon!
>>98411529People absolutely do care and in fact they routinely bitch about fucking everything so I'm not sure where you find these players. The point of the rules is drawing a line in the sand on what is and isn't okay, rather than doing this wishy-washy "well I had the combo on turn 2 but I waited 4 more turns letting Rhystic draw me more 6 more counterspells so you technically got to play the game" stuff. That's what the fundamentals are. If you are +30 cards over your opponents the game is over whether or not you play the wincon that turn or even the next 4 turns because equalizing that resource gap is too large a hurdle for most decks to cover especially when most decks built to create said gaps are the best at widening it if they're forced to durdle due to a minimum turn count.
>>98411553Yes I agree WotC has a vested interest in making the game worse.
>>98411554>People absolutely do care and in fact they routinely bitch about fucking everythingthose are casual players and not to be taken seriously, you should know better>I'm not sure where you find these playersformer modern/legacy players, duh>The point of the rules is drawing a line in the sand on what is and isn't okay!>but sandbagging isn't, ok? even though every timmy will tell the pro to hold back in every other game (aka sandbag) for a fun casual experienceyou're making a mountain out of a molehill and i suspect you're new to mtg too, given how you are not aware that there is precedent in mtg about this; i'm old enough to remember a time when modern was once touted a "turn 4 format"
>>98411555primetime and rhystic will never touch your b2 pods timmy, mayhaps it is (You) who should stop dabbling in brackets that will only ruin your gaming experience?
>>98411536It really isn't punished by JW, because for every card an opponent has, the higher chance they're holding an answer to your attempt to punish it. This is literally why control win conditions had "can't be countered" plus protection while on the field printed on them for 10 years, specifically so mirrors wouldn't last until heat death of the universe because both players were able to answer everything their opponent played. Drawing cards doesn't magically become bad because hand size punishers exist. As cEDH demonstrates, they rarely even accomplish their objective.
>>98411582rhystic becomes a lot more fair in cedh when people start tagging draws as lossesit also makes cedh the poker game for nerds it actually is, but that's life
>>98411561The fact you're citing "former modern/legacy players" as a primary demographic when this is backed by zero statistics from WotC or any LGS is indicative that you are part of the disconnected group that does not recognize the average player's inability to self-regulate in a public environment. More than that, just because the average player is retarded does not mean their feedback should be immediately discarded without consideration. Especially because the most retarded players are usually the ones that best signal how easy your onboarding experience is. This is a large part of why precons started becoming much more functional with commanders that are considerably more braindead than their predecessors. Because this gap is prominent whether or not people acknowledge it, and WotC likes money, something that is inhibited when Timmy buys a precon then gets demolished by a deck 10x better than his because he was told they were both power 7.
>>98411593why shouldn't i be citing "former modern/legacy players"?don't you know that brackets are for randoms battling it out at the lgs? surely you're not this naive? casuals can have their rule zero and cry forever (while hilarously taking the banlist as gospel despite all their contrarianism btw)
>>98411603Because sitting in an ivory tower is precisely how you end up with your head up your ass. MLD is objectively a terrible strategy in that it almost never wins games at a top level, but if you try telling this to someone playing their first game Magic after you Stone Rain their only land for the third turn in a row, the most common response will not be "I should learn how to beat this," it will be "This game sucks, I'm going to play something else." This is exactly how you end up with an incestuous playerbase that has near-zero player intake and wonders why finding games became so hard over time.
>>98411617finding games is becoming harder for you not because it's hard to "onboard" new players (clearly not, if you believe wotc's news about UB) but rather because no casual can agree on anything, because of course>Because sitting in an ivory tower is precisely how you end up with your head up your assreminder that the only thing i have said this entire convo is for players to sandbag (literally the only thing, idgaf what combo you run) while you're here crying about "fundamentals" and "a large banlist", who's the authoritarian in his castle here again? lmao
>>98411624The gap between people that only play with friends and players that will play with randoms should be a very good illustration of how the rules are not doing a good job at bridging the two, but evidently you're more concerned with protecting your ego than addressing the notion that sandbagging doesn't work in practice among the exact demographic where it is most critical that they have a good first experience.
>>98411617You know, I honestly never thought of it like that. It seems obvious now that you pointed it out. MLD really is the perfect example of an area where top-down balancing doesn't matter because it's not fun even if it's shit.
>>98411641>sandbagging doesn't work in practice among the exact demographic where it is most critical that they have a good first experience.nothing but the rule zero in their heads will work with casuals right now, the best wotc can do is create a framework for sane players to compete in so that casuals can emulate down the line given enough time, remember when casuals created 60 card casual? funny how back then they built them exactly under standard rules even though they never competed at fnmmaybe it's your own ego that's fragile here? i've given you the simplest possible solution and here you are still pontificating about a large banlist that is bound to piss off even more casuals, no wonder you can't find any games you're whining over sanguine + exquisite of all things
>>98411624>This part of the game isn't good for new players>Well all the veteran modern and legacy players know a workaround and they think it isn't a problem>Okay but what about the new players?>They don't matter
>>98411653>rule zero never actually worked>Well all the veteran modern and legacy players know a practical implementation to brackets and they think it isn't a problem>Okay but what about the new players?>if they're wise they'll listen and if they don't then it is what it is
>>98411652That's such a ridiculous strawman with an added poor attempt at tu quoque that your argument isn't even worth responding to. You are completely unconvincing, so I believe the only valid response at this point would be for me to give the timeless classic non-answer of "I accept your concession."

players can "gain control" of permanents they already control, right? so if I give him double strike, then the trigger would activate successfully both times, right?

I recently traded for a Knights of the Round and I'm a big fan of the FF Saga Creatures from a mechanical standpoint. They're one of the few good UB design spaces I approve of.That being said there aren't that many of them, so building a deck is hard. I've thought about bant because I'd like to use Birthing Pod and Enigmatic Incarnation, but even then you "only" get access to about 12-14 actually playable saga creatures.
>>98412977I've looked around the idea of running the saga creatures in a brenard deck since they'll sac themselves to saga rules and then brenard can make a new one and then you can populate them and he's in the Tidus precon colors so you can run each Yuna if you want. A lot of the support from the FIF and FIC for the summons is in bant anyway
>>98409997There will be. But we don't know anything about it yet beyond that it will be. Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't try to release it with the movie. Unless there's something else for He-Man that's coming in the future to tie in with.
>>98413026I was considering Brenard although that doesn't change the fact that the saga creatures themselves are very overcosted. The biggest hurdle is dipping into your mana for not-very-great creatures. Though he DOES let you run the flip sagas to similar effect, and they'll come back as 1/1 golem versions of their normally front sides I believe?
>>98413057I don't believe so, most flip sagas exile themselves and return
>>98413088I'm saying if you get to the backside and that creature dies, you can exile the creature itself which will copy the characteristics of its front side. Except Brenard makes it a 1/1 golem.i.e. you reach Yangchen on The Legend of Yangchen, now when Yangchen dies Brenard will exile her and you'll get a Legend of Yangchen food golem 1/1 saga token
>>98412977I built Falco Spara around the Saga creatures and it really doesn't feel satisfying to play
>>98413122He seemed like an obvious pick too but when I actually sat down with him it became clear he's a bit of a non-starter. It's decently strong resetting the creatures' effects and getting card advantage out of it, but you are still deploying pretty low-powered creatures in the process.
>>98413122I initially tried that too but I quickly realized the vast majority of saga creatures didn't feel worth it. I ended up cutting nearly all of them and only run like two or three now.
whats the irc? I cant find it in the OP
Henzie has kinda ruined other commanders for me with how interactive and resilient it is. No two games are ever the same and it feels great to pilot.
