cyoas are cringe. At times, writing a cyoa is unbearable. In its process the thought invades, it interrupts my thinking and paralyzes my body - "Why am I doing something instead of nothing?" - an idiotic question, what exactly is the advantage in doing nothing? But idiotic or not, it does paralyze me and make me drop everything, and it is an effort beyond efforts to go back to the work and continue it later. The only way I can get anything done is by rationalizing "I'm not really doing anything" which requires my work to be trivial, petty, worthless. If there could be value in it, I halt functioning. The feeling of completing an overwhelmingly superior cyoa would overcome this instinct as well, but such could only be produced by commited effort which this instinct itself sabotages.

Writing interesting and varied male characters is so hard for me. I end up making them ~70% just lore dumps because I don't know how to actually make them good characters

Granted to be a true saber master required mastering all 7 forms which Dooku did (along with Yoda, Mace, Sideous, etc.) which is different from the cyoa but he was exclusive with it and really did via his sword autism become so good as to be very close to unbeatable as a Sith Lord. You NEED a bit of Niman to effectively throw a force push or something during lightsaber combat, and having a free hand is helpful as well (lol I guess Jedi and Witchers have something in common). The "gyroscopic effect" is also worth mentioning. Lucas wanted lightsabers to somehow be heavy so he invented it and originally this was the reason Luke and Vader's duels felt like ponderous Kendo duels. When he made the prequels though and had the technical expertise to make the duels faster and better looking he let up on this a bit (and explained Luke vs Vader by saying they both used form V which was heavy on strength), but it's still the reason most normal people can't use a lightsaber.
