I am considering getting some of the Red Corsair dudes to make a little kill team of some of the Blood Ravens traitors from DoW2. Considering some Nurgle elements as well since Ulkair was who they were initially serving. Any advice?

Newbie here, is it fine to prime minis outside at 35ish celsius?
Or will heat mess it up?
>>
Needing a book to know your stats or use the app is silly
>>
>>98483244
You'll be fine, just be sure to not spray in direct sunlight as that'll dry some of the paint before it hits the model.
When you think you've shaking your spray enough, shake for another minute
Also use quick passing/flicking motions when spraying your minis so you don't accidentally over spray and clog up detail.
>>
>>98483244
supposedly its the humidity that messes it up rather than temperature, but I’ve primed at that temperature and at 78% humidity and been fine. definitely do one model first to see how it turned out though.

Can't say for passes, I just general blue tack my model on the edge of a box or stick so I've got good access to different angels.
General I do multiple passes at different angles, wait about 20secs for, and the check in the sun to see if I missed anything.
Definitely do what that anon said and do a test mini, because if worse comes to worrst you only need to put one mini in metho to strip it.

Posting some pictures of a game I had last week. Been too long to battle report but I'll try to remember a few cool moments.

1k, Orks vs votann, bully Boyz vs mercenary oathband. I figured the best Orks to fight the scrawny stunties would be the biggest and baddest Orks.

Here's the game results.
Overall the Orks had a really strong start, but the stunties held firm and once their deep strikers came in they were cleaning up scraps of what was left of the Orks. The squats were able to flip a massive Ork lead in their favor by the end and score the victory.
Very fun game against one of my favorite opponents and friends.
>>

A big battle like Armageddon will feature 50,000 Space Marines, so yes, 500 is basically nothing. You would need to have 100 Damocles Crusades combined to match the forces assembled at Armageddon.

Imo most Space Marine subfactions should be counted as their strongest subfaction for balancing/win rate arguments since you can just claim your nondescript dudes in blue and orange are Blood Angels one day, and Raven Guard the next.

That still leaves guard, eldar, dark eldar, daemons, and GK all getting uber shafted though. Also lol 27% WR.

Yeah it's a lot for one book. Almost like it should be two books.
Of course then you look at tanks and it's like
>Fire Prism, Night Spinner, that one clowncar that doesn't really count

There's definitely some gaps where the model line is missing a lot. I'd like to see a new tank on the wave serpent/fire prism chassis since eldar don't really have a good MBT like the russ, dorn, or repulsor.

>>98483914
Eldar is weird. It looks like they're missing stuff, but they still have tons of units they also have distinct archetypes they have several variations on. They're old enough to be before GW started deciding certain ranges shouldn't have access to certain unit types, but they've never really expanded in those areas and kind of have pushed Eldar into being this more technical Army that doesn't have a lot of the bulky lineman or big tanks outside of their really old ones.
>>
>>98483854

Guardsmen can unironically fight as well as custodes. As least the ork boys are genetically engineered by magic space lizards to be good at fucking shit up with 0 training.

Incubi should 100% be ws 2+ especially since we have every aspect getting ws/bs 2+ in other editions and exarchs being ws 2+ /bs2+ in even more editions.

I can see how this issue arises because upgrades are all free and even space marines get everyone to rock the same gun now. The difference between everyone and 9/10 with flamers could be a mistake.

Not sure how buying the character is done, is it an independent entry or an upgrade to a unit?

Looks like they cheated a straightforward weapon swap and used both. Definitely an issue.

How do you guys comfortably edge highlight? I have a Raphael 3/0 8404 for my highlights since it is small and has a sharp tip. Either my tip dries and clogs up the paint from the belly, or I overthin it, and it's just runny.
>>
>>98484229
Use a size 1 brush and make sure the belly is full of paint.
If you're using a small brush then thin with flow improver, retarder, or glaze medium if you must, not water.

3/0 and the like are not generally used for edge highlighting because they dry out too quickly. Most of the time you paint with size 0 or 1 including for edge highlights.
I only use brushes that small for lenses/eyes.

If you're painting with the tip the difference between a good condition 00000 and 0 is irrelevant except for how much moisture the brush can hold. If you think you need a brush that small it's a skill issue 90% of the time.

I have a size 1 8404. Edge highlighting with it or a size 0 should be fine. It's mostly a brush control issue if you need tiny brushes for edge highlighting. Good news is, you get better at edge highlighting by edge highlighting. Time to pick up a squad of Kabalites!

necrons would be what the fans expect the most for the sake of variety and because of how sm2 ended, but they can tie them into the game without making them the main enemy faction of it

also he will be back

Page 68 of the core rules download has the strategic reserves rules.

You can put additional units into reserves during the battle (repositioned units), but pre-battle the limit is 50% unless specifically stated by the ability.

Arriving on the battlefield is considered an ingress move and the unit will not be able to make any other type of move until the next charge phase (again unless specifically stated by an ability).

You could lean into the beast masters and khymerae that they deleted from the recent codexes. Nobody wants to deal with hordes of ludicrously evasive wyches with their 4++ dodge in melee and possibly FNP

Haemonculus cults could work too.
Nobody's gonna complain of you fuck up a couple wracks or grotesques either regardless of statline they just look and feel like mooks.

Let's be honest, the humble Necron Warrior hasn't been the equivalent of a Marine for a long time. This is not 3rd edition when they had Marine stats. Nowadays they are as horde as Ork boys.
>>
>>98484577
Drukhari also have shit like Ur-Ghuls, beastmaster warpbeasts like Khymerae packs, Parched feral vampire husks, and Slavemasters with psychotic pained flensed humans to send into battle too. And let's not pretend they wouldn't just make something like Wyches or Commoragh Gangers into roaming packs of unarmored chaff if they wanted to.
>>
>>98484560
Razorwing Flocks are definitely chaff.

I can also see the drukhari sending waves of barely armed slaves at the protagonist or some shit if they were desperate for fodder tier enemies. Like the drukhari torture the shit out of them or drug them up on some crazy hallucinogens before releasing them on the space marines.

You could say the same about most forge world factions. The guard are the only army in the game other than space marines and dark eldar who get custom sculpted subfaction model release waves.

And the dark eldar haven't gotten shit since 7th edition so they barely count. You're the second most babied faction in the entire game and you have the audacity to ask for even more support. I actually want more traitor normies but I'm not out here bitching about it because I'm not a guardfag.

The Battleship thing happens in Jain Zar, the storm of Silence. Jain Zar's borrowed Battleship ends up in the warp and the ship gets raided by Daemons. Eldrad knew this was gonna happen thanks to future sight so he hung around nearby and when Jain Zar finished killing the KOS in the ships reactor Room Eldrad Neg diffed all the other Daemons while humblebragging to both Jain Zar and the Ship pilot.

After Eldrad drags the ship out of the Warp and into realspace Jain Zar points out how this display of psychic power is fucking absurd. Eldrad responds by basically going "yeah I'm pretty strong" and flexing his psychic muscles in front of the pretty lady.

I should mention here that this is Pre Heresy Eldrad, bro's young by eldar standards when he does this. He's also the smuggest piece of shit I've ever read in a 40k book.

The time stop happens in that god awful John Grammaticus book, Eldrad stops time to talk to JG and tells him to stop being the Cabals bitch and think for himself, then dips.

Eldrad Astral projects all the time, he does it in basically every HH book he's in (except when he tried to talk to fulgrim) and he does it in both Ynnari books too.

The Telepathy in the Nexus feat is also from the ynnari books, specifically book 2 where The Eldar fuck around with some necrons and the Necrons respond by switching off the Warp, banishing the Yncarne, depowering all the fancy eldar tech, ruining their comms systems and rendering Yvraine helpless. Then Eldrad uses Telepathy to contact Yvraine, goes "wow this sure sucks huh" and then links the entire warhosts brains together so they can restore order and come up with a plan.

Bro's genuinely unbothered by the Necrons switching off the warp. For Some reason Gav Thorpe will let Eldrad do whatever the fuck he wants.

>The Telepathy in the Nexus feat
A tomb world Null Matrix, not the Pariah Nexus Pylon.
Two different technologies.
Null matrixes makes it hard for psykers to use their power.
A fully active Pariah Nexus Pylon kills psykers within its active range. Further away, they diminish psyker powers and sap souls until everyone is in a coma. Asuryanui of Alaitoc use Wraith constructs to enter the Nexus since its too dangerous for living Asuryani to enter there.
Anyway, that's BL nonsense.
In GW lore, Abaddon cornered Eldrad in a duel and forced him to pull a bear spear trick. There was no showing of super psyker power other finding the only future where he wouldn't be killed.

Not him but that isn't what happened. Jain Zar purposefully damaged the reactor during her fight in order to shunt the ship back into realspace, which is what then caused the Daemons to be banished from the ship. This was in part because the Keeper of Secrets leading the Daemons was leeching energy from the reactor, and with it being damaged they lost their grip on reality and had to pull out. The KoS was actually moments away from gutting Jain Zar.
Eldrad was only there to pick up the survivors after they emerged since he foresaw their arrival.

yeah i know, it's just whenever ive try to introduce my friends to 40k before it kind of lifts the veil off my eyes as i realize how expensive this hobby is to the common guy
>you need to buy the sprues which range anywhere from 30-60 for a character, 60-80 for a unit, and 100-180 for a centerpiece
>if you don't have a workstation for modeling then you need to spend ~50 in assembly materials like knives, files, sprue cutters, and glue
>painting is also an entire hobby in and of itself so depending on how deep you want to go you need to spend ~10-20 on starter brushes, 15-25 on a primer rattlecan, and 50+ on acrylics, metallics, and technicals like washes or varnishes
>then you need to get over the mental block of your first models being wasted money as you inevitably fuck them up with your ineptitude

Close enough desu. I assumed something like that happened. Jain Zar can't even deal with a squad of Chaos marines (Night Lords trilogy?) so her taking an L to a keeper of secrets is in line with GWs power scaling. Honestly feels like Eldar and Tau are playing the role of actual humans in the story. Space marines take an easy w against everything, guard play like generic fantasy orks and throw bodies at everything, then you have legendary 10,000 year old space elf fighters who look at a greater daemon and get out via alternate wincons or take an L. I'd bet 500$ on your average space marine captain to beat a greater daemon. Bro's literally too angry to die, at least before the rest of the phoenix lords do.

L-shape ruins were mandated in 10th. Now you have a lot more freedom on what you plop on the template areas. The large central objective in that map could be a square ruin unless the idea of that being 4 connected 90 degree angles is the issue you have. In which case, this is on you being a spaz. Shit, you can even put trees there in 11th and that's fine.

You very much don't. It specifies what and where the thing is on the template. More importantly the existence of these terrain areas cement specified terrain layouts as the standard for even casual play.

Why do people still enforce WYSIWYG despite the fact that GW themselves don't include all the wargear. For example sisters retributors can take 4 multimelta but the kit only includes 2. And 1 BSS can also take a multimelta but the BSS kit doesn't include multimeltas at all. So to have 3 squads of multimelta retributors and 6 squads of BSS with multimeltas you need to buy 9 retributor boxes and 6 BSS boxes.

That is 390 dollars extra you need to spend because they don't give enough multimeltas, just so you can WYSIWYG

Back in the old days Eldar tanks were allowed on top of ruins if they could stay without falling too because canonically they all fly in from orbit anyway but alas Imperiumfags ruined that by putting their shitty super land raider sized tanks on them and gw ruled they're all hover so operate on the same principles in lore. Thus we later got orbital repulsor drops in one of the indomitus crusade books making imperium hover tanks better in every single way to their eldar counterparts in terms of mobility, firepower, carry capacity, and in lore abilities.

>My schizo headcanon is that all humans are baseline psykers
That's not really headcanon but actual real canon.
All humans are technically psykers since all humans (except blanks) exists on the positive side of the "Assignment" scale.
And that positive psychic signature is the human's soul. And it is known that all souls are irrecoverably connected to the Warp.

This is also the reason why humans are so susceptible to Chaos corruption, since the connection between the soul and the warp is a 2 way street.
It's how psykers work, their soul, like with all humans, is connected to the Warp and the Warp is connected to their soul which is then what allows psykers to "pull" warp energy which they can use to basically do magic.

I love how the Orks invented anti grav but instead of making their shit hover like every other faction they used it to make their enemies stuff hover just long enough to drop them from great height.

Proper big thinking that is.
>>
>>98485764
The reason they don't give every Guard a plasmagun has more to do with them encouraging the Guard to think outside of the box, the Imperium could easily give their troops the best armor in the setting, but that would just encourage the same overconfident mindset that the xenos have which keeps getting them trounced by humans
>>
>>98485772
>cause nobody in the universe has technology that advanced

What
That's double retarded. Necrons are not hard to permakill if you know how to it. The Deathwatch was doing it in Warzone Damnos thirteen years ago
>>
>>98485772
No, that's once again wrong, necrons have plenty of ways to permakill each other and guilliman actually retreated from a fight with the necrons and silent king in the end.

If you only like your faction due to factually wrong information, then you don't actually like your faction, or 40k in the first place.
>>
>>98485772
Girlymans sword perma kills shit because its a chunk of a god tied to a stick. Its not the only weapon that Perma Kills Necrons, any Vortex weapon does that and so do Eldar Distortion weapons.
>>
>>98485794
>The Deathwatch was doing it in Warzone Damnos thirteen years ago
So...the Imperium. Not exactly disproving them to be the most advanced.
>>
Do think it's funny that in the debate about technology the Eldar are being left out as being ultimately inconsequential.

Orkish antigrav is the most powerful in the setting because it doesn't work by lifting the target against gravity, it is genuinely physically impossible to direct anti-gravity like that, instead they use their beam to isolate the target from the inertial frame of reference long enough to activate the actual antigrav engine that's solidly on the ground and used to lift the planet in the opposite direction.
>>
>>98485800
I am disproving that Guilliman is somehow exceptional for doing it. Necron reanimation has been nerfed a hundred times over in the last decades. In Twice Dead Kings Orks were permakilling Necrons just by crimping them very hard.
>>
>>98485803
The Eldar are genuinely just fucked, their Guardians are the equivalent of a Guardsmen but they're outnumbered by Guardsmen a million to one, there's no way to stop their extinction at this point.
>>
>>98485803
Nobody is mentioning the eldar because the eldar are unmistakably superior in technology.
>>
>>98485818
>their Guardians are the equivalent of a Guardsmen
that's wrong, by the way
>>
>>98485803
All the eldar good shit like the psychometons or the genocide songs were destroyed during the fall or else captured by the Dark Eldar who can't use them and are only keeping them so the craftworlders can't use them either
>>
>>98485803
Deldar built a perfect copy of the Golden Throne that the Imperium can't even keep working (which is why they called the Deldar in the first place)
Commoragh is literally illuminated by stolen suns
they put black holes in boxes to send to their enemies
>>
>>98485827
>who can't use them and are only keeping them so the craftworlders can't use them either
that's also wrong
>>
>>98485803
Eh. Craftworld tech is basically just psychic powers, and the real advanced tech is in the hands of the Dark Eldar who use it mostly to fuck each others up.

Generally when people talk about tech they talk about hard sciences, which is the reason for why Tyranids don't get mentioned too despite doing ridiculous shit.

>His impossibly wide grin grew wider. ‘Well, unless circumstances necessitate. Anyway, the nature of the problem was presented to us by the dancing fools, that you lacked a weapon of sufficient potency to incinerate the planet properly. My Lord Vect, in his infinite wisdom, proceeded directly to his grand armoury and produced this.’ Sarnak’s awful face disappeared, and a monolithic device, tall as a Revenant, took its place. Gems studded its sides at regular intervals, one of great size mounted on its summit. ‘Behold!’ he said pompously. ’The Fireheart. A device of the elder days, when our kind strode the Great Wheel as masters over all, and didn’t live such dreary, funless little lives on boring worldlets. It’s in the hold of my ship, waiting just for you. Aren’t we nice?’ He giggled. ‘I have seen such as this before,’ murmured Taec. ‘I also,’ said Kelmon. ‘It is a relic, powerful. Used by the planetshapers of distant arcs in the sculpting of star systems. It can collapse a dust field into a world in the course of passes, or the resonance it can create in an existing planet’s core will tear it apart in mere tenths of a cycle. I believe many were used in war.’ ‘Imaginative, those of the empire, wouldn’t you say?’ Sarnak’s grinning visage reappeared. He affected an air of sorrow. ‘Unfortunately, it is, like so much of our people’s inheritance, psychically activated, and the ban on the use of the abilities of the mind precludes we of the Eternal City ever using it. Of course, you, our most excellent cousins, have no such ban, and as I see, there are many of you here skilled in the arts of such sorceries. A foolish taunt to She Who Thirsts, but what would life be if we were all the same? Boring, I say. So bravo. You goad the Dark Prince. Well done you.’

I mean, thats nice and all but I was talking about shit like Isha's lament, an eldar psychic weapon that kills souls and could be deployed via space ship to wipe all intelligent life off of a planet while leaving the planet intact.

Superweapon shit.
>>
>>98485880
Technically correct but most Dark Eldar are also psychically stunted because of their lifestyle, so they would need someone that has not been a dark eldar for long, which probably removes anybody that Vect can "trust". At that point it would be easier to just threaten a Corsair.
>>
>>98485880
most deldar have their psychic abilities atrophied
>>
>>98485881
Yeah. There is absolutely nothing the orks cannot figure out how to turn into a gun. Ork bubblechukkas are weaponised forcefields for example. Guns that fire unstable "bubbles" which have ruinous effects when they detonate.

In fairness, Tau fire warrior armour IS carapace tier, their guns are also usually better than bolters. The Tau need all these advantages to make up for the fact that their bodies are garbage.

In most sci fi settings humans are the ones who need to compensate for shit bodies with tech but in 40k thats the tau.

Stop thinking memes are the actual fluff.

>supposedly better than a lasgun
Lasguns are s3ap0
Hotshot lasguns are s3ap-1
Boltguns are s4ap0
Bolt rifles are s4ap-1
Pulse rifles are s5ap0
Pulse rifles are better than lasguns, and they have more range as well.
>>
>>98486085
They lack the armor piercing of both the hotshot lasgun and the bolt rifle so I'd say they're more of a sidegrade.
>>
>>98486041
Tau eyes can see more wavelengths of light than humans but their depth perception is worse and so is their ability to focus on objects because their pupils don't dilate. The "average" tau is also weaker than the "average" human. The fire cast have had millenia of eugenics and a lifetime of training behind them and they can just about manage to match your average guardsmen after six months of basic training.

The Tau's sense of smell is a lot better than a humans tho.

>>

Absolutely true. Strength is useful for nurgle units sure but think of how often you'll be playing against high armor units like Space Marines.
>>
>>98486091
They have 6" more table range which results in 3" more range for double attacks, since both lasguns and pulse rifles have rapid fire 1.
That alone with the strength bonus makes them better than lasguns. Both have AP 0, it's not an argument.
Comparing hotshot lasguns to regular pulse rifles isn't "fair" in the sense that you're now comparing elite guard against regular Tau.
>>98486101
I'm very glad that the GW sculptors for the plastic Krieg models went with trench clubs instead of shovels on the models. The actual model for it in the Engineer squad is pretty much just #4 (counting from the left) in that image.

They're a sidegrade to the hotshot and bolter. They're better than regular lasguns.

Well, better at killing. The lasgun is in use because its extremely easy to use, build and maintain which is very important when your worlds are as diverse as the imperiums.

Every tau world has roughly the same level of technical development while some imperial worlds are still in the era of pike and shot. Or spear and shield, or fucking neolithic clubs and bows.

The standard issue imperial weapon needs to be able to be used by any tom dick and harry to drop any tom dick and harry. The lasgun succeeds at this so the fact that its subpar at killing aliens is ok. Thats what the tanks are for.

The difference between wounding on a 5+ and wounding on a 3+ is bigger than the difference between a 3+ save and a 4+ save.

Mathematically, pulse rifles are better than hotshot lasguns at killing space marines.

Ok, and lasguns and pulse rifles are the same ap, so it's back to a strength debate.
But if you would like to talk about ap, before 8th ed pulse rifles were ap 5, the same as boltguns, which would punch through flak armour, while lasguns were ap -.
This was also the time when attacks didn't always wound on a 6, so having strength 5 mean you could wound a wraithknight at t8, or glance a rhino to death, while the humble lasgun could not.

Yea, a 65 point lascannon that can reroll all wounds against anything you want to use a lascannon on
And they're another free HK Missile
>scout sentinels worthwhile without artillery
Yea, they pair very well with HWS and recon squads for area denial and forcing your enemy to go into your desired "kill funnels," and that's before considering the Daring Recon ability that lets you reroll ANY hit roll of 1 if your scout walker hit that target first. Daring Recon goes rather well with any of the primary weapons.
And they're another free HK missile

Sentinels are one of the very good things in the current guard roster that you should always consider as a potential addition.

Thanks, man. I'm still plenty new so I don't have a lot of practical experience enough to judge these units. And with edition changes recently, getting correct information over units is a bit haphazard.

>Armored Sent
The usual response I see here is that it's more effective to have another battle line here instead. More firepower compared to the armored sent's one weapon. Though I suppose the point of armored sents should be to utilize their demise ability and strong armor and serve as a rushing disruptor, correct? If so, it seems to properly not be the route to go when my calvary would do the same thing.
>Scouts
This is good advice, I just focused on the indirect fire aspect of this. So these are front line spotters. I like this. I will have to see if I can work it in but I do like it a lot. Wanting to use those horses and mechs and it's hard to balance
Thanks bro
>>
>>98486293
Every game I've played as guard since 9th edition has been against enemies who are banking on me not having enough anti-armor weapons and not positioning properly so they can deepstrike terminators (or an equivalent) onto my squishy infantry. Armored Sentinels are one such anti-armor weapon, and work as a great screen against deepstrike.
>rushing disruptor
I use them as bait to lure my enemies into walking into heavy weapon squad sightlines. The additional lascannon on the sentinel is just insurance that the other guy's shit actually dies.

Scout Sentinels are much more useful than Armored Sentinels for total army damage output due to their ability, but armored ones can still do good work in the mental game against your opponent by forcing his hand and giving you advantageous engagements. A t8w7 vehicle with 8" of movement and a save on 2+ is a big motivator for the enemy to try to take it down, which lets it be excellent bait for him to overextend.
