crosspost (sort of) with another thread on the board
is there a canon reason why humans seems to such a deeper and stronger connection with the warp than any other species in the setting ?
all chaos armies are now human only whereas in the older lore, xenos worshipping chaos was more common ; there were khorne and nurgle worshipping orks, slaanesh worshipping eldars, etc...
nowadays, the lore make it feels like the chaos gods are mostly or exclusively dependant on humans for their sustenance; is there an explanation in the lore why ?
>>
>>98496724
>>98496711
it literally is a kill team on armageddon terrain rescuing a downed dreadnaught the legion of the damned appears and the orks have 10 boys as npos to fluff the price of the box even though no one asked.
>>
>>98496794
>is there a canon reason why humans seems to such a deeper and stronger connection with the warp than any other species in the setting?
Because we're the best, simple as
>>
>>98496794
The Old Ones seeded the creation of Mankind during the time of the dinosaurs and meant for us to be their greatest legacy. The Krorks and Eldar were rushed for the War In Heaven and ended up extremely faulty, and the Old Ones knew that Humanity would eventually become the dominany species in the galaxy to destroy the Necrons and Chaos.
>>
>>98496793
Every so often I see a canon successor chapter that makes me have second thoughts about having done my own dudes. These guys, Red Scorpions, Crimson Fists, Marines Malevolent, Mantis Warriors...
>>
>>98496721
This model is technically impressive but at the same time looks identical to the promo pics eavy metal makes on the website.
>>
>>98496700
Primaris look cooler.
>>
>>98496794
>>98496802
my own theory is that it is due to something the Old Ones worked in humans : the specific ability of humans is Faith, it allows them to get stronger and more courageous than they would be otherwise, it alors works in some way like the waaagh field of the orks but in a more refined way : instead of being "da red go fasta !!!", faith literally allows humans without psychic potential to display supernatural feats (the miracles of the imperial saints)
I think this is something that is due to the meddling of the old ones at an early stage and this also explains why mankind "feeds" the chaos godsmore than any other species
>>
>>98496830
Not in any way.
>>
>>98496830
nuh uh
>>
>>98496794
We're better at being delusional nutjobs, our pyskers are bitchmade, and the average person has basically zero physical or mental defense against the warp. We're basically perfect chaos fodder.
>>
>>98496766
ty for the resources, will investigate further
>>
>>98496820
Well see the trick to that is not deciding a scheme for your army and paint evert squad in a different scheme. How do you then have a cohesive army? I don't know.
>>
>>98496840
Yes in everyway.
>>98496843
Yuh uh
>>
>>98496819
According to new lore, Krorks and Aeldari predate the War in Heaven. Both were created s weapons against the Old Ones' true enemy: The Chaos Gods.
>>
>>98496757
There's nothing indicating the necropolis hawks are space wolves
>>
>>98496794
>is there a canon reason why humans seems to such a deeper and stronger connection to the warp than any other species in the setting?
They don't. That would Eldar. The Eldar before Slaanesh's birth had vastly superior mastery of the warp and better control then humanity ever has. They also had their gods to protect and guide them.
Humans are more easily corrupted, have less control then the average Eldar psyker, and know so little about the actual nature of Chaos and the warp that they get tainted the most. Humans are easy pickings for the Chaos gods and it helps that there is a fuck ton of humans.
>>
>>98496867
If the Eldar were truly that strong they would have sensed Slaanesh coming and stopped it. The Eldar were never good psykers, they simply leeched off what the Old Ones left behind.
>>
>>98496866
It's a joke, a space wolves fag yesterday thought they were SWs.
>>
>>98496802
You're not even human, let alone part of the best
>>
>>98496680
The Imperium is badass for the same reason Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea are badass, there's a certain respectability and dignity in being able to take basically infinite losses and not give a shit because nobody, not even your own soldiers, care about their lives.

The Eldar ruled the galaxy for 65 million years, anon. Slaanesh was the result of millions of years of unrivaled utopia where the Eldar grew so bored at how perfect their lives were they gooned too close to the sun.

Realm of Chaos/Lost and the Damned, sourcebook from 2nd edition, says the Aeldari couldn't have prevented Slaanesh from being born. Aeldari existence was enough to gestate Slaanesh. They didn't need to slide to hedonism for Slaanesh to be born. In fact, hedonism was the result of Slaanesh nearing its birth.

The war in heaven happened after the tag team against chaos. They're two separate wars. It took millions of years of sabotage and decay before the old ones warp prisons broke down and the necron pylons started to fail.

I fail to see how the imperium actually being good/necessary is dark.
Sure, someone can say that the galaxy/situation leading up is dark/fucked, but to me that's coping out of the grim and the dark of the imperium.

Also, doesn't make sense. No way the imperium is how it is because of necessity, it makes no sense for it to develop the way it did because if had to.

In short: The grim darkness of the imperium stems from its own willing regression and delusion. It's a grim fantasy empire in a dark future, if you will.
>>
>>98497280
>>The Imperium is the best of all possible situations, and has justified reasons for all of its actions
Because it reminds you that all the horrific things the Imperium has done were completely necessary to counter a far greater evil than even the worst of Humanity could imagine. Its like saying what if Hitler was actually right....now thats fucking grim man.
>>
>>98497315
>>98497325
>No way the imperium is how it is because of necessity
I find that whether the Imperium is justified or not comes down to entirely how much Chaoswank someone believes in. Because basically everything the Imperium does can be justified in one way or another if you believe Chaos is that strong. If you don't believe that Chaos is nearly omnipotent then a lot of their actions become self-sabotaging.

>>

Back in 10th I played Eldar against Thousand Sons and stopped playing afterwards because it made me realize TSons got to keep their Psychic phase when Eldar didn't.
Fun fact; Marines and Eldar have the same number of Psychic detachments, and the Marine one is only 1DP while the Eldar one is 2DP.
>>
>>98497330
>If you don't believe that Chaos is nearly omnipotent
This is the slippery slope all over again tho and as it turns out..it was practically a slip and slide.
Chaos IS that bad and its been fleshed out in lore.
>>
>>98497280

Always somewhere in the middle, tending towards the first statement.
> There are people fighting to make things better, as there are also people fallen to plain ol' human weakness.
> Despite the efforts of all involved, something completely out of their control or out of their ability to perceive comes and bodies them either destroying them or forcing draconian measures in order to survive

I actually really like the view of the Highlord/Hexarchy conspiracy in the Vaults of Terra/Watchers of the Throne that they call "Static Tendency", which is essentially: "Things are the way they are because they couldn't be any other way because otherwise Emps would have intervened, besides, we're still here after ten thousand years, don't fix what ain't broke".

>>
>>98497344

>>
>>98497353
Chaos wanted the Imperium to come about because it feeds them the infinite suffering of mankind. It's why Slaanesh let the Eldae 'control' the galaxy for so long; he knew they wouldn't fuck with Humanity thus allowing for the Imperium to be formed. When it was time for the Great Crusade to happen Slaanesh instantly obliterated the Eldar to pave the way for the Emperor's rise.
>>
>>98497330
It makes no sense since it feeds chaos. You can't use "fighting chaos" as a justification as to why the imperium has to be a certain way when it feeds it.
That's why it makes no sense to think it's out of necessity: either
A) they're ignorant and that's why they're shooting themselves in the foot
or B) they're doing something out of necessity, which is actually counter-productive so they're ignorant and shooting themselves in the foot.

I think it's much more understandable that people want to think the imperium is doing it out of necessity because they don't like the imperium being sub-optimal. It's like retards arguing everything GW does is for a good reason and always positive.

The imperium is retarded, that's the point. That is fun. A crazy drunken priest is a much more interesting and fun character than a power-fantasy self-insert isekai character.

We actually had something really funny happen in Pre-10th during the previews where Eldar being a 'psychic' faction was translated as none of their Psychic weapons having Hazardous. The day immediately afterwards they showed KSons rules and made special mention that they can make ANY Psychic weapon, including the ones Eldar have, Hazardous on a whim.
Eldar are genuinely the worst of the Psychic factions in the game right now.

We've been over this; Slaanesh allowed that to happen so that Humans could progress and eventually form the DAOT, thus leading to the Imperium.
Chaos could have destroyed the Eldar any time they wanted to, but they needed to ensure the Imperium came about properly. The Eldar were too lazy and stupid to expand which gave Humans all the time they needed to progress.

>How is it that the Imperium are uniquely retarded but everyone else gets a pass?
Eldars are dying and too far up their own asses
Orks are retarded and violence-brained
Chaos is self-defeating, constantly fighting itself
Tyranids are limited by their "animal" nature
T'au are blind to see neither their own naïvety nor how they are as narrow-minded and brutal as the rest
Deldars are like eldars and chaos: fucked, low numbers, a shadow of their former selves, but also constantly sabotaging each others
Votanns are doomed by the limits of their ancestor cores being reached
necrons are often senile, plagued by politics and possibly doomed by the destroyer virus and the fact that while the eldars are fucked, the rest of the galaxy might be too much for them.

Every faction is retarded. Every single one of them. That's the point.

>deldar torture

Personally I think Chaos is sometimes not treated seriously enough, although it's usually in bolter porn where Marines are somehow not affected by Chaos at all. Chaos at minimum should be treated like highly radioactive waste that self propagates if left to do it's thing for even a second.
Besides, there's other reason's besides Chaos that the Imperium needs to be the most brutal regime imaginable. The new book by Abnett "Hive" has nice worldbuilding in a Hive World and why things might suck, and also a lesson on why sometimes if things actually were worse, then they wouldn't become catastrophic.
>>
>>98497489
That is a deception from Chaos. They hoped to corrupt the Emperor into renouncing his Faith and joining them. He denied them for he realized the Truth of God, and saw that the path to salvation for all Mankind would require his sacrifice and suffering.

The Chaos Gods pretend that they will become slaves to the Dark King, when in truth He shall become a slave to Them.

AHKSHUALLY that's not how it works in the lore anon. Some conclave of mad scientists (Heamonculi) came up with the method of topping up their own souls through the suffering of others. It's scientific as well as mystical. Eldar souls are constantly being drained by Slannesh unless you have a method that either replenishes your soul (DE), side steps that process (Craftworlds, Exodites, Soulstones+Worldstones), or your soul is claimed by another god (Harlequins and the super rare Chaos Eldar). Pirates usually either have a soul stone or they continue to use the DE method. DE are not appeasing Slannesh or using a surrogate. Khaine is a seperate entity and also doesn't feed Khorne.

Pro writer tip: don't write what you don't have to write. You can always fill it in later when you need it. Otherwise you can write yourself into a corner.

BUT, rejoice, for 40k is great for "soft retcons". You can say your chapter is of UM heritage and then change it later. It happens in 40k. Your dudes forgot. Were tricked. The inquisition or high lords changed your records millenia ago. Etc.

>But what about very specific mutations like the red thirst?
Your dudes could have a mutation due to geneseed degradation/alteration that look like the red thirst, but is actually unrelated. It happens.

TL;DR: if you can't choose, ask yourself if you actually need to choose. You may not need to know right away to keep on working.

Last tip: if you really can't choose between 2 (or more) things, don't choose. Do both. Especially in the context of marine chapters.

if a 10000 year old propositioned me, I think I'd have to yes just for bragging rights. Maybe not if they were a vecna looking bag of leather but Eldar are forever gorgeous (until sculpted by a GW employee) so that's a moot point
>>
>>98497604

Eldar souls are default "claimed" by Slannesh, it would probably be more accurate to say that Eldar souls are actually Slanneshi in essence. Their souls are getting siphoned over time by Slannesh's hunger. The suffering of other beings allows DE to work their technomystism to replace some of their lost soul stuff, basically vampirism. They aren't appeasing Slannesh, they are just delaying the inevitable. Some DE don't even like all that much what they need to do to survive.

Yeah but the conditions to actually manifest them anywhere are usually quite difficult to manage and require finite resources. The power of chaos imo is that it's incredibly "radio active" and "contagious" and therefore hard to properly contain beyond its physical manifestation.

Sure but even then, chaos worlds can pump out daemon engines, and they have a steady supply of mortal slaves too, plus you got the Lost and the Damned. For all intents and purposes Chaos is just the mirror reflection of the Imperium and, like the Imperium, is functionally infinite.

I understand diy terrain. I have made dioramas before. It's just that it's less fun when I'm trying to get something which is both cheap and durable enough to not totally suck. But this always runs into the other problem like >>98497707
the Exodite Waystones and Stelaes in the pictures they took in the studio are clearly unreleased terrain, fully plastic, you can tell from the indentation of the eldar runes instead of it simply being painted on. This rotates back around to me not wanting shitty knockoff terrain but 'the real thing' or as close as possible. But the real thing is having someone on fiverr print it for 50 or 60 bucks. Which brings me back to "why did those cunts put that cunting 10x ork snagga boyz in the box instead of the terrain, I don't want fucking snagga boyz".
>>
>>98497745
I mean honestly how is what the Dark Eldar do any different from what the Imperium does?
>>
>>98497748
No. Only Yvraine herself can pull off that trick and only if you die within her immediate vicinity. Even then there's a 50/50 chance Ynnead just eats you and that's basically the same as Slaanesh eating you; infinite suffering. In some ways it's actually worse since Ynnead also gives you ego-death along the way.

The point is they didn't create Slannesh by accident. They created it purely out of being themselves. That's why their souls are ready claimed and tallied. The DE murder fucking other stuff doesn't feed Slannesh any more or less souls, it's still getting it's claimed Eldar souls sooner or later and the souls of those poor fucks that get tortured end up going to their respective patrons or just fading into the warp. DE actually clamp down very very hard on anything that actually resembles Slannesh worship or empowers it. DE /= prefall Eldar at all. Even they practice some self restraint.

>Ynnead gives you rest.
She actually doesn't.
When Ynnead eats an Eldar soul, she subjects them to EVERY sensation, all at once, infinitely. This process obliterates the Eldar soul's conciousness and ego, essentially erasing them as an entity separate from Ynnead. Ynneads end-goal is to absorb EVERY Eldar soul (thereby erasing the Eldar from existence) and utilize their combined psychic energy and subsequent lack of faith to zero-sum herself to a higher plane of existence. The Ynnari are simply hoping that in the new plane of existence Ynnead will make new Eldar who might get to be happy.
The Ynnari are a DEATH CULT. They accept they're going to die and simply hope that it'll be worth something.

There is no cope. Khaine isn't Khorne. Older lore had them be different sides of the same entity but that's no longer the case. Orks murder fucked by DE go to Gork and Mork. A Khornate gladiator in Corm goes to Khorne. Etc.
>>
>>98497823
That doesn't happen.
When all eldar die it causes Ynnead to be actually born, who then in return resurrects all the eldar since they can do that as the god of death.

Why is it that whenever I see a woman in this hobby, I think she is some sort of grifter trying to farm lonely dudes for clicks or money? I know it is a poor line of thought but I definitely get those feelings all the time from women in this hobby. Like if I see a woman cosplaying as a sister of battle my first thought is "You are farming clicks or farming lonely dudes." not "OH SHE MUST REALLY LOVE SISTERS OF BATTLE!!!"
>>
>>98497745
Its canon. Kinda.
Deldar are a social darwinist hellscape where only the smartest and cruellest bastards make it to adulthood. Their are occasionally "kind" deldar children but their kindness is usually exploited by their peers and then they get murdered.

There are no deldar adults who aren't pure evil. Any deldar that reached adulthood without being pure evil would escape to join the corsairs or harlequins at the first available opportunity. Any that stick around either like being pure evil or are too cowardly to try and stop being pure evil.

Either way they deserve to suffer.

That only applies to Chaos since the Chaos Gods are amalgamations of various different minor faiths feeding into a single domain. If you kill every Khorne worshipper there will still be bloodshed and war, which in turn will spark faith in Khorne again even if it's under a new name.

>leather
Dryad Fart basecoat
Shade with a black (use nuln oil if confused)
Fat highlight with dryad fart, basically leaving the areas that are meant to be dark with the shade
Mournfang next highlight this can be used for scratching as well, just be selective.
XV-88 as a final highlight. This is meant to be used on the edges only, gives the worn effect.

Scratching on armour is a little tricky, too much can overwhelm the miniature and make it look shit, basically you want to grab your highlight colour, (a lighter colour than your basecoat. And add little dots. This can be done by sponging the edges of the armour, or you can just add a little flick on your edge highlights. After that step you paint in the middle of the dot Rhinox hide/Dryad Fart to give it the "chip effect". Easiest way to do it.

Here is an example of the leather recipe.

>Many are the tales of the Bloody-Handed God. His murderous rage and jealous lust caused much strife amongst the pantheon of the aeldari, and his slaying of Eldanesh precipitated the disastrous War in Heaven. So legends claim. Perhaps the truth is something else, but antiquity is a fog not easily penetrated. Legend also claims that when the Great Enemy arose, born of the nightmarish perversions, desires and twisted ambitions of the aeldari Fall, Khaine was there to fight, the warrior-god of his people.

>Here myth is conflicted, and the sagas of one craftworld differ from the epics of another, as much as they differ again from the folk tales of Commorragh and the dances of the disparate Harlequin masques. Some say that She Who Thirsts tried to consume Kaela Mensha Khaine, but in struggling from her grip the Bloody-Handed One shredded into many parts and the tatters of His existence fluttered down into the universe of mortals. Some say that Khaine was always the son of the Great Enemy and the Lord of Skulls, their twain desires of glory and bloodshed matched within His breast. The elevation of the Doom of the Aeldari was too much and broke apart his immortal frame, scattering bloody parts into the cosmos. And there are those that claim the Brass King and She Who Thirsts fought openly for possession of the Bloody-Handed, and in the struggle Khaine was split asunder and flaming fragments of his being were released into reality.

Nah this bit of lore is absolutely retarded. Sure, a god might have "theoretically" existed forever, but that doesn't mean it had any power though it's existence. Slannesh had no power before being born, therefore it might as well have not existed. Likewise there's a story somewhere saying how the entity known as Tzeentch was actually not the "original god" but was instead a fragment/demon that challenged the existing god and won. Its like Aristotle's Forms. There's a plane out there where everything conceivable exists, as an ideal, but until someone actually conceives it can we say it actually exists? The Eldar gods 'always' (they didn't) existed, but now they don't. The Dark King? What about whatever the Emperor is becoming? The new Tauva entity? I like to think of that as the Chaos gods talking themselves up as sort of a feed back loop in hopes that they do actually become these true godlike beings. But they aren't. They're just cancerous thought forms. T. Fabius Bile

The point about the Imperium is that it USED TO have potential to be good. Yeah, even during the "golden age" of the imperium shit was still worse than we have today, but it would have progressed forward and become better over time.

People seem to be forgetting, also seems that even the fucking writers are forgetting it, but Horus Heresy was always meant to be a TRAGEDY.
The entire point of the Great Crusade and the subsequent Heresy is to be the final nail in the coffin for humanity.
Great Crusade was the LAST hail mary attempt, the long shot of long shots, humanity ever had to regain their dominance of the galaxy and be able to thrive, to have a golden age and prosperity.
The Heresy happening, entirely destroyed this dream and it has entirely doomed humanity into slow but inevitable extinction.

Like this is the fate of humanity now, there is no changing it anymore.
It is a canon fact that the Imperium is slowly driving humanity towards that extinction with its brutality in an attempt trying to stave off Chaos and all other enemies mankind faces. But it is not enough.
The Imperium as per canon is losing thousands of planets everyday, the Golden Throne IS actively failing, they are also feeding the Emperor more and more psykers in an attempt to keep him alive a bit longer. But none of this is enough, and once the Emperor dies, humanity goes with him.

Why is the Space Marine number so ridiculously low? 1 million in the entire galaxy. Terra has population in the "Quadrillions" so I'm assuming 2 quadrillion. Imperial Guard is heavily inspired by WW2 Soviet Union and they drafted 20% of their entire population (which in 40K seems to be on the low end DESU but let's assume Terra gets special treatment here)

So Imperial Guard just from Terra alone gets 400 trillion soldiers. And this is again just from Terra not counting all the other planets in the Imperium. The Terran Leman Russ/Rogal Dorn tanks would be around 1 million to 100k times more common than a single space marine. Again just from Terra.

>>
>>98498098
I never understood humans fighting on this scale. It takes roughly 20 years before a human is in any real fighting condition. So you spend 20 years just to die in 2 seconds to some eldar freak? Seems retarded.
>>
>>98498098
>Why is the Space Marine number so ridiculously low?
Because GW writers are retarded and can't comprehend numbers, it's like how Siege of Vraks is described to be horrifying and devastating war for the Imperium, but it had like 14 million casualties, which is lower than the all people who died during WW2.
When the writers wrote "1 million marines" they thought it sounded impressive. That's the reason.

Yes, and? The Imperium has lost entire chapters before, it wasn't a big deal, 1,000 Space Marines is only .1% of all the Space Marines that exist roughly speaking.
>>
"A thousand chapters of a thousand marines" was never intended to be an accurate count, and it's only become less accurate over time. Templars, Wolves, DAngels, Ultras all operate either as a single huge chapter of have dedicated feeder chapters to replace constant enormous losses. Even fully codex-compliant chapters run 10 squads of 10 *plus* command, dreadnoughts, armoury, librarians, apothecaries etc. in each company, and the scout company has no limit to its size. No one knows how many of /yourdudes/ chapters are running around the million worlds of the imperium and beyond.

Yeah I just redid the math.

There are 32,400 hive worlds.

If we high ball each hive world as having 500 billion people (the range is between 100 billion to 500 billion) then there are "only" 16 quadrillion humans living on hiveworlds.

The majority of humand live on hive worlds, but we'll high ball it again and say that exactly 50% of humans in the galaxy live on hiveworlds, that means there are 32 quadrillion humans total.

If 2 quadrilluon humans live just on Terra that means 6.125% of the imperiums entire population live on one fucking planet.

If we take the low ball estimate of 100 bil per planet then every non-terran hiveworld in the galaxy cumulatively make up 3.24 quadrillion people.

Double that for total population and you get 6.48 quadrillion people in the imperium in total.

If Terra's got 2 Quadrillion people by itself thats almost a 3rd of all humans in the galaxy living on one fucking planet.

Neither of these are credible figures to me.

Anyone who tells you there are quadrillions living on Terra is retarded, especially GW.

You're both missing the point.
Eldar are specifically written to be losers and jobbers. That's SPECIFICALLY what they're meant to be; a faction doomed to never be major players on the galactic stage again as they slowly die off and suffer. That's their existence; suffering.
Wanting Eldar to do more than that is on par with a Tyranid fan wanting an intelligent PoV that isn't the Hive Mind, or an Ork player wanting a pacifist WAAAGH, or a Space Marine fan who wants his army to die in droves like Guardsmen. You're asking for something that goes against the definition of the faction.
You chose to be fans of the faction that exists only to lose and suffer. Don't act surprised or offended when all they do is lose and suffer.

Which actually brings up an interesting point. In Warhammer Fantasy, the Empire had to fight against superhuman 9 foot tall warriors and endless hordes of chaff using combined arms and disciplined troops with smart tactics. In Warhammer 40k, the Imperium has adopted the 9 foot tall superhuman warriors and endless chaff tactics themselves, and it's largely the Tau that have taken the Empire's place.

Well the Empire/High Elves/Dwarf's willingness to use diplomacy and team up is fairly similar to the Tau/Eldar/Votann's willingness

Because there was a crusade conducted, which can be considered a minor crusade, but a minor threat in 40k is dark Eldar wraiding parties in a system, a barely contained GSC uprising on a mining world, out of control ork infestation, when you have multiple systems conquered by an alien race it's a bit more than a minor threat, but it could be dealt with a small crusade, which it wasn't.

There's a somewhat loose comparison to be made in terms of the relationship between tech between the Empire and the Dwarfs and the Tau and the Imperium.
>Dwarfs/Imperium have a lot of advanced tech, but are very slow to innovate, and their innovations are slow to be dispersed (in the Imperium's case because the tech-priest is hoarding it, in the Dwarf's case cause they just don't trust anything new)
>Tau/Empire are starting from behind in the tech tree technically speaking, but they're innovating rapidly and are much more willing to try out new and even risky technology, and they're closing the gap and will eventually surpass their Imperium/Dwarf counterparts if things continue on like this long enough

>>98497861
ehhhh it's because some amount of them are doing exactly that, to be honest.

However, there is also a portion of legitimate fans, so you just have to remain openminded and not judge someone harshly before you know for sure, since the possibility of them being a real fan exists.

I know several women who play, and they tend to have well painted armies and they tend to enjoy narrative play. In my experience women enjoy making theirdudes and painting just as much as we do.

And for the record, there are plenty of men who are tertiary grifters too. It's not a man vs woman thing to be a real fan or a grifter, it's just how some people are.

I also know several women into mtg and dnd, and it's mostly the same. For every cosplayer who can't even name the character they're cosplaying and didn't make the costume themselves, there's a nerdy girl who writes an entire backstory for her dnd character or makes a whole deck themed after Liliana or whatever character.

Forget about the fake losers and just look out for the real fans, and be openminded. Just like you would be with guys.

They're called travel locks. You can find pictures of ww2 and cold war tanks with them.
Assume the artist saw one on a historical model or a real tank in a museum and didn't put 2 and 2 together that it would be taken off when the gun is in use.

I actually just got back from playing a game a little bit ago. I was waiting for a new bread to get baked before I posted anything, and the lighting in my LGS is kinda ass so I didn't get any amazing shots, but I did get a game in with my CSM against Grey Knights today.

The Cadian Recon Squad is what that box is meant to be played as, they get a rocket launcher as an option. The datasheets are meant to represent what the box is sold as.
>catachans can only take flamers???
Each guard unit from the 3 supported regiments has unique options. Krieg get Long-las in their battleline, Catachans can only bring flamers, Cadians are the middle ground with most everything.
Krieg also has a unique heavy weapons squad, they can bring heavy flamers and heavy stubbers that the other 2 (which have the same options between themselves) don't have.

Trim your cuticles.

this is bad flanderization. people in the imperium may be backwards at times, but they’re still street smart, and know basic concepts like you can’t have your gun locked up in a fight. even if that happened, they’d still win a darwin award near instantly, and then be replaced by people who know to keep the lock off.

I get that, and traditionally yes missile launcher hasn't been an option for guard squads. I expected to run it counts as a nade launcher but would've been nice to have it properly represented by the rules.
>Catachans can only bring flamers
I still can't get over this. When in the lore did they suddenly unlearn how to carry and use the other support weapons? What an ass stupid fucking decision, not only are catachan players cucked by an ancient line of plastic models but they can no longer run any fucking special weaps other than flamer? Did they really think Scouting plasma/nades would be that OP? I'm particularly salty because deathworld vets were my OG army, and if I still had them in my possession I wouldn't even be able to run my old list in the new rules.
>Krieg also has a unique heavy weapons squad
I saw that too, absofuckinglutely ridiculous. Guard codex SHOULD always be set up as a generic list, and you apply regiment on top of that for some bonuses. Maybe a section for some limited regiment specific units like devils. But fucking weapon options should not be exclusive to regiment

>would've been nice to have it properly represented by the rules
It is, for the Cadian Recon Squad. They're an 80 point unit available to guard that is very good in the current game if you know how they work.
>When in the lore did they suddenly unlearn how to carry and use the other support weapons?
Catachans are based on Predator, First Blood, and all that 80s/early 90s action movie goodness. Flamethrowers are a big part of that and thus are part of "the aesthetic." The current catachan jungle fighters box came out when the difference between guard units were still "whichever you think looks cool" instead of competitive balance. They didn't think about scouting with plasma, they just went on aesthetics.

Fwiw, Krieg guardsmen get access to a long-las, besides having access to all the options that the Cadians get, so they're the most versatile right now. And that's not even mentioning that you can run Scions (who have next to no roster support) as battleline with Bridgehead Strike.
The current guard roster isn't meant to be mono-regimental, you're supposed to mix-and-match; that's why there's so many little inconsistencies like these.
>codex SHOULD always be set up as a generic list, and you apply regiment on top of that for some bonuses
I described exactly this as my opinion on it a few threads ago. Let regiments be expressed in detachment bonuses with models being more standardized (and the roster being more consolidated because of it), but you can also play /yourdudes/ how you want instead of having Krieg artillery supporting Cadian HWS supporting Gaunt's Ghosts leading a Scion unit across the field.

>Africans who would dial the gun sights all the way up because they believed it made the rifle shoot harder.
see, that’s what I mean. in your imaginary example, they were retarded with technology, but it wasn’t obvious that it would lead to problems (as opposed to having your gun literally not able to move), and it wasn’t life threatening, so they were able to go about doing it.
btw that shit didn’t happen, and its unironically a historical tertiary meme. pic related is where it comes from and he says he “read it somewhere” no works cited. you should also note that the bush war is deeply politicized because it has to do with rhodesia/zimbawe and all the mutual racist baggage it comes with, and also the 40K ork power of belief like red things go faster was becoming more popular around the time.

>what do you guys do with the spaces in between their "ribs?"
Iron warriors undercoat the whole body, follow up leadbelcher layer on only the raised or flat armour parts (so the rib indents and joints etc stay as the darker iron warriors shade) then nuln to finish it off.

I've done the green glow in the ribs on some older models but I think it's a bit too much green, which lessens the overall effect by making the other green bits stand out less. I want to draw the eye to weapons and gems and details, not a flat ass ribcage.

The exodite box was too big for its contents. The terrain in the book is obviously printed and designed in CAD and not the diy paper craft terrain they posted up in the article.
Either a designer was fired or someone missed a deadline and they couldn't get the exodite terrain into the box so they cut it.

I figured the KT would have a datasheet but I didn't see it in the list builder. Guessing they're not battleline? Kind of useless to me if they're not.
>Catachans are based on...
Why are you still mansplaining this shit to me? I just said I started 40K with a catachan army negro, I was there when the texts were written. Catachans were always described as having an affinity for flamers yes, but they could take other options before. Nerfing them to JUST flamers was 100% some stupid balancing decision, don't try to excuse it with this weird vibes based "aesthetic" argument that holds no water. If they wanted catachans to onpy have flamers they would have introduced them into 40K like that, but they didn't, and it makes no logistical sense with how the guard works.

No, that's what I've been saying this whole time. The Cadian Recon Squad is a special unit, all killteams are as far as I'm aware (Tempestus Aquilons, Celestian Insidiants, Ratlings, etc).
>mansplaining
You asked a question that indicated either you weren't aware or were just being rhetorical, how am I supposed to know which is actually meant on a text-based forum?
>stupid balancing decision
5 Intercessors cost 5 points less than 10 guardsmen. You don't have to complain to me that GW makes stupid design decisions, I'm aware and I agree.
But consider the other side, Catachans can bring 2 flamers in a 10-man squad where no one else can, and has +1 wounds on melee attacks after charging/being charged. Catachans are meant to be "in your face infantry," flamers fit that. Should they also get meltas? I'd say yes, but GW doesn't care enough to update the sprue or make a new upgrade sprue.
This "in your face infantry" fits into that "mix all the units together" thing GW has clearly been pushing towards by putting a specific "role" onto each of the units. Krieg are the most "sit in the back," Cadians the middle ground, Catachans the up-front as I said.

>Abbadon uses Chaos but isn’t controlled by it
What is Abbadon’s non-Chaos motivation to muster his armies and attack the Imperium? In the Heresy they were afraid that the newly formed base human Council of Terra would push the Space Marines out of the picture, but the Imperium as it became hasn’t really manifested this fear at all. It is not unusual for Space Marines to be worshipped and revered as Angels.

I have a decent number of green rod models (20 man warrior brick, two destroyers, a monolith, two or three lords) so nah I'm not missing out. >overexplaining
Reread the entire conversation.
You asked why a box that is for a specific unit had options for that specific unit, and not for a different unit. I answered by saying that the box is for a specific unit, to which you replied that it "would've been nice to have it properly represented by the rules." To which I then rebutted that it IS properly represented, on that specific unit that I had mentioned twice BY NAME before that point, but you STILL did not comprehend this information, so I said it a third time. How is it "overexplaining" when you showed me all the signs of just not computing the requisite information, so I keep restating it in different ways in hopes of you actually comprehending it, because it is the entire point I'm trying to get across?
>waffling on
Because there isn't an "in lore" reason, meaning there has to be another justification. To some people, when they ask a question whose answer is some iteration of "no, but," they then go on to want to know what follows that "but." Others want to pre-empt that follow-up question.
>clearly being tongue in cheek
How am I supposed to parse TONE through letters on my screen?
Consider the universe outside of your own head does not perceive itself the way you perceive it, and therefore does not have all the preconceived notions in communication that you do.
>>
>>98499215
>You asked why a box that is for a specific unit had options for that specific unit
You're still not actually understanding what I was griping about, but go off king. Let me repeat yet again, I am trying to make an army here and looking at the battleline options, and finding it difficult to properly represent them. Catachans would have been perfect if not for the flamers only issue, and the non-battleline datasheet meant for that KT box is not fit for my purpose.

The overexplaining came when you banged on about the differences between each squad option for two posts, and then tried to tell an oldhead about the origins of catachans.
>Because there isn't an "in lore" reason
>How am I supposed to parse TONE through letters on my screen?
These two are linked I fear. The question was tongue in cheek and rhetorical because there is no in lore reason. Do you get it?
>>
>>98499240
>I am trying to make an army here and looking at the battleline options
You didn't say that until after my second time saying that the KT box is a Cadian Recon Squad.
The third time, the time I said "what I've been saying this whole time," was an affirmation of this fact. I was saying that the unit was NOT a battleline unit the entire time.
>banged on about the differences between each squad option for two posts
So I'm not allowed to talk about differences between guard units from different regiments, in a conversation about the differences between guard units from different regiments? Only you're allowed to do that?
>tried to tell an oldhead about the origins of catachans
You expressed frustration at the fact current Catachans can only have flamers. I gave the justification (to the best of my understanding) for why they can only have flamers. You being an "oldhead" doesn't change anything about that.
>Do you get it?
No, because sometimes people ask questions like this seriously, or do so in bad faith to stir up a fight.
>>
>>98499270
Okay, chalk it up to a misunderstanding. It's clear this is going nowhere, both of us are too stubborn and think we were both clear in our communication while the other missed the mark.
>So I'm not allowed to talk about differences between guard units
