Sisters have about 15 times the unique models salamanders have, 5 times the featured art, and 1.5 times the published lore content. It makes me wonder how many fake wiki and lexicanum entries with an unrelated citation slapped on that are still considered fact to this day.
>>
>>98523693
Salamanders are magnitudes better than sisters and pretending like the space marine codex isn't part of the salamander's selection of models is disingenuous at best.

I'm seriously getting tired of space marine players complaining about anything at all when some factions have decades old models, like 5 detachment choices, and entire model lines that are smaller than just the character or vehicle or whatever single section of the marine options. It's seriously whack and reveals that some people have completely lost perspective as I also pointed out here >>98512339.

Votan, deldar, eldar, sob, chaos, pretty much everyone except orks right now roll their eyes whenever a marine player complains about anything. You people have EVERYTHING and you still complain.

>unique models
If you go by this metric, all space marines move down, as do CSM of all kinds, guard and GSC, Eldar and DEldar and Guard/Sisters/Grey Knights/Deathwatch/Imperial Agents, because they all share models to a degree.
If you wanted bespoke sculpts, you shouldn't have played the faction whose ENTIRE GIMMICK is "we all look the same but are colored different."

Besides that, if someone's complaint is about GAMEPLAY, why would bespoke sculpts have any credence in that discussion?

Again with the misrepresentation, they have two gimmicks. No other faction does the whole coalition of races aspect as hard as tau, and back when FoF was a thing infantry tau lists were very common. Anyway, now that we've got kroot refresh, plastic vespids, breachers and all I could probably do a decently fun troops list but I've since moved on and hold little interest after the eyesore that is the stormsurge.

why though? I’m not going to act like they don’t have a shit ton of mechs, but all the footsloggers are still supported, and still look great. you even have kroot and vespid refreshes, so you have even more footsloggers to work with. there’s also plenty of other footslogger minis they can still make like the tarellians, gue’vesa, and loxatl.

pretty good, at home I’m doing the marines, and at work I’m doing the orks. sadly, I was only able to do the skin today because I was interrupted by my morbidly obese coworker coming into the break room out of breath from walking 20 feet, and about to microwave some mystery food, so I had to call it quits.

No such thing, people can paint the models they own however they like.
>poorly painted
Not an excuse not to play. I've played BB against a dude rocking bare plastic starter set Nobility, and for those who don't know them they're in red plastic (so much worse to identify details than grey) and the differences with their positionals are subtle as it is... Oh but he was also using Griff as a blitzer and one of the blitzers as a blocker or some shit like that. Absolutely awful game, but still played it

I won't decline to play assuming it's just a regular guy and not a literal tard; I'm not putting up with that; however, I've also never seen one into 40k (beyond autists), but I'd ask about the paint job and see if he wants advice/help in the future depending on his mannerisms and how he reacts to questions about the paint.

its meant to be gsc that are descendants of hive fleet behemoth, apart from this guy most of my army are painted in exaggerated reds and blues. i have 3 friends who have just gotten back into the hobby who play (or planning on playing) ultramarines, raven guard and yes, space wolves so i might just put 3 heads of those on my base

>>98523952

>>98523905
it doesnt bother me really, im well used to it at this point. the second i get my army out they generally comment on it positively and tend to bring up that they "arent really much of a painter" but i dont care, most of these people that arent the best painters make up for it in their ability to play the game, hence why i lose most of my games against basecoated / half painted / greytide armies

>>
>>98523762
Nah, On release Tau only had the Crisis suits for mechs. The XV15 stealth suits were basically power armour and the broadside was just a Railgun strapped to a crisis.

We got the riptide and the fliers in 6th but it wasn't until 7th edition that terminal mech brain set in with the ghostkeel and the stormsurge.

Tau were on conception supposed to be the closest thing to a real army that could fit in 40k. Thats why their response to titans was an airstrike.

Then the riptide sold 12 Trillion copies and they became the mech faction.

I'm not doing anything this month, don't really have anything for the theme. I could be extremely lazy and buy that 'new' Cthigger hero unit since he comes with it pre-built but my stance on him is likely already apparent. I'm not too fond of enemy faction prescence on miniatures outside of dedicated Diorama style stuff. I think it looks only 'okay' at best when facing that faction and looks absolutely stupid against every other faction or model (outside of small chachky elements like skulls on the backpack etc) but that exception "wouldn't count" by whatever internal metric my gut uses.

The Tau Auxiliaries will be the creators of a virus they will unleash who will shoot you with rocket launchers. They will try to activate galactic superweapons but deliberately avoid the simple idea of cutting off a hand and using space science to keep that hand preserved given those genetic scanners clearly can't detect main activity or intent due to unwilling subjects being okay. I always wondered why the Covenant didn't capture then lobotomize humans. They doubtfully have detailed records on human brains, but it's a long enough war of extinction with captured humans all around that they can fiddle with them until they get one that works, then shove that ass in a stasis pod.

Can someone explain to me something Im looking at old codex organizations and the 1st company says
>Squads 20 Terminators or 10 Veterans
what does that mean is it 20 Terminator squads but no stern or Vanguard squads the wording is odd is it strictly fielding of terminators so if a chapter wanted to field the 1st company they would have to choose between Vet squads or Terminators

Space aliens are dummies. Vast majority of settings it's always the humans making super soldiers. At best you have crap like the Eldar paths, Nid mutations or their own other alternative tech trees but rarely the aliens who mastered space travel do that. Even fucking Skaven make Rat Ogors and other abominations. When's the last time an alien from Star Wars, Star Trek, or anything else did their own Muhreen project equivalent?

But that's retarded. If they think that then why not lobotomize them? Why would building anything mean they can't at least force humans in stasis pods that fully exist during the opening scene of CE or why not exterminate them, then use pieces of their corpses? They have some rule that dead humans are so holy that they can't cap a guy in the face or chop off an arm like other guy said, use that arm to bypass genetic scanners, or have their cake and eat it? The humans plot is retarded if they think corpse worship is an excuse.

This "plot hole" is easily explained by the covenant's religious fanaticism. They didn't care about humanity enough to learn anything about them, they thought they were on a holy mission and were just swatting away this swarm of ants who happened to be too close to their main goal. Hell, they attacked earth without even realising it was the human home world and then were shocked when they met so much resistance. They had no real strategy, no tactical planning, that's the only thing that allowed humanity to last as long as it did and at occasions gain the upper hand. If the covenant had seen humans as anything other than specks of dust to sweep up and treated them with any interest, actually taken them seriously and used them in their plans, it would've gone very differently.
>>
>>98524170
Don't think anon. Thinking for a millisecond makes everything make no sense. Because the original lore was supposed to be prophets were afraid the Chosen Ones/humans would be revealed as the descendants and heirs of forerunners and all the other covenant races would switch sides because their gods were right there all along, wiping them out by glassing them and destroying the evidence keeps the corrupt religious clergy in power.

Well the necrons did turn themselves into immortal regenerating teleporting robots, with a slight side effect. Dark eldar make all sorts of freaky mutants of their own species and others. Light eldar have special ninja training regimens and their dead ones pilot robots. Orks ARE super soldiers created by the Old Ones, and they love slapping prosthetics on themselves to jack up the power level further. Kroot genetically enhance themselves with the DNA of their victims.

Uh, tau don't really have anything. The ethereals might be genetically enhanced but the tau obviously didnt do that themselves.

That is even more retarded. Why would that work? Are they some space kingdom where someone faked a royal bloodline? The Engineers from the other games didn't get that and they were directly created a la Jokaero as an artificial techie race and though considered holy, nobody was thinking of replacing the Prophets with them. This could be easily solved by saying "This species was created just like them to be a key-race to unlocking what we need, but they're refusing their holy duty therefore we must make them fulfill their purpose even if we must fight them" or any thousands of excuses that easily meshes with the theology. One of these days the Eldar are going to infight because Orks or Jokaero were also poofed up by the Old Ones.

There was an anon ITT that asked about BlackLegionMarket a few threads ago. I needed some models for my Firstborn-only autism and bought some. Got here from the Ukraine decently fast (12 days from the moment I hit order). Got a tracking ticket.
I ordered a good variety
>HH chainswords and bolt pistols
>10 firstborn plasma guns
>Librarian
>some 3rd party conversion bits
The librarian is almost perfect. The suuuuuper thin parts like the cherub's blade are a bit deformed but otherwise 0 complaints.
The 3rd party bits were 3D printed with all the supports knocked off, but with some nubs that would need cleaning up.
However, two problems;
The plasma guns looked like they were an old or imperfect molds because they were very clearly recasts. VERY deformed but still usable
Many of the HH chainswords were bent and curvy, but they're still resin so they could possibly be corrected with hot water/steam
Over all, I don't feel scammed. About the quality you'd expect from a slav recaster.

There have been various recipes for it over the years. A very pale off-white like Pallid Wych Flesh over a grey like Rakarth Flesh seems pretty consistent though. You can use other light undercoats but you want cold tones though because anything too warm will resemble normal flesh. Cool blues or purples over warm pinks, for example.

But it wasn't foreshadowed. CE had great plot points that were removed because the devs wanted to detach themselves from Marathon. They had a great idea of an eternal reincarnating hero and how each protagonist of each of their franchises was the same person, referring to the player. There was a shocking reveal where 343 Guilty Spark told MC that he was a multi-millennia year old leader who once asked him questions before. With the knowledge that MC can go Rampant and there's squads of Marines positioned to kill him, this brought huge lore implications of how the protagonist's cybernetics were enslavement protocols keeping him from discovering he's from over a thousand years ago.

Then they dropped it in the next one and never brought it up. You'd think lines saying he was physically there would be a massive lore bomb but nobody cared.

Not gonna lie I've bought some metal off resellers and ebay and sometimes I wonder if I've bought recasts without knowing.
I want to purge my metal collection because I fear them getting stolen. If I just stick with metal models that got a resin failcast release then I can say my 3D printed scans resin and be "safe" from authenticity autism and if the model gets stolen I can print a new one if the LGS can't get it back.
No metal 3D printers exist for the consumers as far as I know so that can't be done.

Is there a model info archiving site that covers the finecast and resin released models of GW's era?
Is GW phasing out resin Warhammer models because of UK laws? I suspect the mould line remover tool that turned out to be decent but not as good as nano glass files (Nano glass is for injection plastic only, not resin or metal to my knowledge) because of UK knife laws?

>wasn't dismissed as crazy robot rambling
One of the core tenets of storytelling is that all info presented must be taken as true: you can have characters lie to each other or even be mistaken, but the audience MUST be aware they are working with false info, or at least explained why it was so.
That's why in "Now you see me", "Ocean's 12" and other plot twist kind of movies you have flashback scenes that explain the twist to the audience.
Meanwhile, in "Last Jedi", captain Holdo acts stupid in withholding information. It makes sense IF she suspected one of the protagonists to be a spy (like Finn the ex-Stormtrooper)...but the audience never gets a scene with Holdo saying explicitly "I believe one of them is a spy", so she simply looks stupid and inviting for a mutiny.

You cannot lie to the audience: if Guilty spark says John was there, then he was.
>>
>>98524307
Tau players do not want more auxiliaries. The funny thing is I was interested in kroot, but similar to the eldar corsairs GW decided to make the box.... not very good. Expensive sub army to collect, and they're missing the Knarloc as a big centerpiece to make them truly competitive.

Also more auxiliaries aren't really fitting in the Tau gunline/mech playstyle now, you add in the nicassar and now Tau have a psychic attack etc.

Part of Holdo's problem is just being a shit commander. In IRL militaries, keeping your men adequately informed is a big enough thing that she should be removed from power for failing. They don't need to know everything but she flunks the bare minimum.

The bare minimum which is
>I have a plan
because Poe didn't ask anything but the plan exists. Not how it works, not what it'll take to make it work, all she needed to say was
>I HAVE A PLAN, TRUST ME BRO
and it would've solved everything. She was so scared of a spy that apparently the very existence of her plan is too much. That if the enemy knew they weren't flying through space with their thumbs up their asses but actually had a plan, it'd be too much. There are IG commanders less incompetent.

I am still waiting for Rian "I'm not a shit writer I just subvert expectations" Johnson to say that purple hair was meant to be a terrible leader. And everyone who thought she was a good commander is wrong.
The way she is portrayed is beyond stupid and is an example of how NOT to write a good female leader.
I think Black Library has been having stories with female leaders in Warhammer 40k and Age of Sigmar that give of purple hair lady vibes. It was stupid then and will be stupid now.
>>98524373
I loved the "shaun" glitch from that. And that game is why I like women with short hair cuts. Was that game so bad it is good or so bad it becomes inspiring like the other David Cage stuff?
I have a preference for the classy shorthair cut.

I unironically want a Warhammer 40k video game with the mechanics of Heavy Rain and Detroit because David Cage tries to write deep compelling stories, but they usually get fumbled badly. Detroit at least had a good foundational concept.
I want to see Warhammer 40k games with David Cage's magic just to laugh at how bad they are. And see retards defend the bad writing and pull media literacy cards you wouldn't believe.

What would David Cage's hypothetical Warhammer 40k game even be? A female hive ganger escaping from her world? I don't even know if I can guess right because I'm not on David Cage's higher plane of intelligence.
I imagine that the female lead will get an ugly face because for some reason attractive female faces are verboten in video games.
Also I am waiting for Darktide's twist to be that the Ivan inquisitor is a traitor. And for the Moebian Domain to all be lost when Darktide shuts down inevitably because I'm too poor to buy all the skins.

one of your characters is constantly wondering who the killer could be (in his own thoughts) and goes on to murder somebody WHILE YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF HIM but you as the player somehow does not see that happen and he then stumbles in on his own murder and acts horrified
And he's not the unreliable narrator or a split personality, he's literally just lying to the player in his own mind

I just found out my LGS reopened after a move and I was thinking of taking my army out for my first ever game sometime next month. I know. Dyed hair in general can be that.
But the female nose ring is the real indicator that she will be trouble and not the fun kind. Maybe in bed fun, but the unfun trouble may make it not worth it in the end.

I just wonder what the "male nosering" is. I might even be wearing the one cosmetic choice that signals people that i am bad news when I just want to play Warhammer 40k at the LGS.

Much better. There should be programs extracting blood for transfusions, grafting their limbs onto yourself, mating with them or mixing genetics. Especially if they witness a degraded version of their gods and believe they can re-ascend.

Ancient Greeks had many different ideas including that that humans can be raised into godhood like Hercules or that without any theory of evolution, that gods are a further level than humans or that one way or another humans can progress into godhood. There needs to be more settings of mortals implanting pieces of their gods or objects of worship into themselves to become like them.

I think the best thing about Darktide is it's music and the possible retconning of ogryns from being absolute retards to just Forrest Gump idiots in that they can get shit done.
Also the community got it right with trying to make ogryns have funny names and looks with their cosmetics.

What other music fits in with Warhammer 40k besides the usual church choir with modern music sounds anyways?

But I do believe it is best to avoid rainbow lads when it comes to wanting to play Warhammer 40k or DnD 5e or minimize interaction. The chances of existing in a way they can see as problematic and them freaking out because the LGS is a concentration of autists is way too high. It is just not a worthwhile risk. Even if it is the autist's fault for assuming the worst and responding accordingly (probably from mistreatment conditioning in real life and online) the LGS will still side with them.

I think melta weapons are one of the most inconsistently portrayed thing in Warhammer 40k. The most inconsistently portrayed thing in Warhammer 40k (yes HH counts) is the mark 2 power armor's helmet being in a fixed position.
No model or art piece ever portrayed that.
Also has GW ever addressed the difference between stubbers and autoguns? Is "autogun" sort of an umbrella term for all projectile based weapons if lasguns don't count as projectile and instead laser based weapons?

>>98524569
I've read lore pieces where autoguns are caseless projectile weapons and stubbers are our modern guns where there's a case to be ejected after the bullet or "stub" is fired.
But bullet got used in a Warhammer+ animation episode I think called "bullets" so everything is up in the air.
And the distinction could have been fake lore put into the warhammer 40k wiki/lexicanum and people just ran with it and maybe the nuGW writers ran with it too.
Any cases of that sort of thing?

Lastly I vaguely recall 40k book pages detailing different kinds of autogun rounds. Like how boltguns get different kinds of rounds.
If autogun and stubber rounds having different kinds of harder hitting rounds is canon as in not retconned away yet does this mean that those guns can hit harder than a lasgun, but lasguns are "better" because their "mags" recharge on their own after usage making logistics a more tolerable nightmare?

I do badly want to know what false 40k lore with no sources just shoved into the wikis exist that are still peddled to this day that may have even made it into current canon.
>>
What is the benefit of running hormagaunts in unit of 20 instead of 10? Aside from being slightly cheaper.
>>
>>98524585
NTA but I think the answer is
>people don't care
in-universe or out. Stubbers and autoguns aren't anywhere as valued as Lasguns or stronger besides maybe a Heavy Stubber every now and then. Thus classifications on them get really, really wonky.
>>
>>98524589
>people don't care
That might be the real answer. Both in universe and in real life.
>>
>>98524585
>does this mean that those guns can hit harder than a lasgun, but lasguns are "better" because their "mags" recharge on their own after usage
This has always been the trade-off yes, though las cells don't recharge on their own. They just have a decently high capacity of shots (unless it's hotshot, which involves an overclocked cell pack) and can be plugged into power or thrown in a fire to charge. And all of this extra granularity is forgotten about in the actual 40K tabletop since autos and las share the same stats at such a zoomed out, higher power level view. In Necromunda and the RPGs it's definitely a consideration whether to go with ol' reliable las - decent damage, great ammo consumption - or solid projectile - varied ammo types, but have to manage buying, carrying, swapping out ammo. The RPGs even have fire selectors and expanded mags you can fit autoguns with.
>>
>>98524589
>besides maybe a Heavy Stubber every now and then.
Why primaris, of all people, bother with .50 cals when they got literal bolters.
Screw it, I'm going to pretend they are bolters with high velocity barrels or something
>>
>>98524562
>Is "autogun" sort of an umbrella term for all projectile based weapons
Yes. Same as stub gun and stub thrower.
Some of them are caseless, some are not, calibres vary, magazine size, etc. Its a catch all term the same as most of the 40k games don't distinguish between different patterns of bolt gun, or if the bolt gun is held by a marine or a normal human.

I now wonder if explosive ballistic rounds for autoguns/stubbers in 40k would be referred to as "micro-bolts" because they explode like boltgun rounds do.

The color of lasgun fire never mattered much to me, the color of a laser is determined by its wavelength and saying that different patterns fire at different wavelengths is far from the silliest way to handwave a discrepancy in the media. Its a real page, but its not a book. Its a letter to the editor type thing of a scifi anthology or magazine making fun of pointlessly idiosyncratic / anachronistic language to the point it becomes pointless dribble. It says letter right at the top, has AI made people unable to read titles or prefaces? If you read sci fi there are tons of forwards and bits like this at the beginning of these anthology paperbacks which you can now find for 10 cents in the disposal bin of your nearest library (which I have many times done and will continue to do so).

When the writer uses the word Google here they aren't referencing the company but the number, a Google (though it was originally spelled Googol the former spelling became more common in American English).

H. N. Swanson was a publisher / anthology collector / magazine editor in the 30s and 40s who published works from some of the most famous american sci fi authors of all time such as F. Scott Fitzgerald.

The letter is written by Raymond Chandler, who also worked with Swanson, whom I haven't read much of because I preferred 50s sci fi tremendously (I hate to admit I was a clark fan).

Correct me either way and true LOS I imagine is still a thing, but when considering that GW puts a tactical rock on their dreads that I'm not going to count on coming with the kit, it is indeed going to require some creative compensation to do so.

Apart from that, the Multi-Melta I could just grab off some spare bits off from a 30k vehicle ugprade sprue. Would need a spare Contemptor to get a Gravis multi-melta, but then I'd just a regular Contemptor.

Check to see if they have a facebook or discord, so you can mention that you're still in your first few games. There might be a learner's league to join, or even someone who will do a demo game with you.

Tupperware is fine but you might want to look into some foam or packing peanuts. Also just get a real case, you can get the nice wood/metal ones with magnetic trays for reasonable prices. I use the Onuliss brand ones but they're all the same thing, I have 4 stacked up with all my armies, they're very convenient for storage and transport and you can see which is which at a glance.

>>98524390
That's totally fine. Hive tyrants don't really need the guard and the guard are actually slower than the tyrants and a unit can only move as fast as the slowest model so that's one thing to consider.
This is a good list for just mindlessly running forward which is honestly a based way to play nids but consider one or two small units to sit on an objective somewhere, every single disposition has at least one mention of objectives on their missions, even purge.

The Browning M2 is one of the earlier STC schematics to be recovered on Terra before the great Crusade. While its true age is a subject of debate, its effectiveness and versatility are without question.
>>
>>98524773
>wether or not they are more effective than a regular gun has never really been confirmed
This is a very tabletop take, outside of the core 40K wargame we've had plenty of info regarding auto vs las. The answer is that both are generic terms encompassing a massive range of guns of differing manufacturing and marks, so neither is definitively better than the other and it all boils down to what's available and the local logistics situation.
>>
>>98524814
IG also uses heavy stubbers very often. They have more of them than heavy bolters. Past books have said they got more than double the heavy stubbers.

Can't find the book that says it but the Imperial Munitorum Manual says heavy stubbers are the most common long-range anti-personnel weapon.

Damn, I've only purchased from wartable before and their recasts are pretty shit, my rhino doors were about 90% the required size and looked awful. I'll try black legion next

Heavy Stubbers are everywhere, and can even be made man portable. There are clear use cases for them.

>I think melta weapons are one of the most inconsistently portrayed thing in Warhammer 40k.
How so? It blasts the target with heat, melting it. What other portrayals are there?
>The most inconsistently portrayed thing in Warhammer 40k (yes HH counts) is the mark 2 power armor's helmet being in a fixed position.
Considering beyond the original RT article (back when not even all the models portrayed it with a fixed helmet), the helmet being fixed hasn't really been brought up since, I think we can just ignore that part.
>No model or art piece ever portrayed that.
But they did.
>Also has GW ever addressed the difference between stubbers and autoguns?
Since like Rogue Trader. Stubbers are just 20th century firearms analogues while autoguns are caseless future guns. Until the designers forgot all about that and started making the two interchangeable to suit their visual needs, rather than what the fluff said.

>most common
>only ever portrayed as a tertiary weapon on vehicles sporting at least one heavy bolter
Admech and Space Marines pack more heavy stubbers than IG these days.
>>
>>98524906
Retardo, that's because guard players are choosing the heavy bolter upgrade over stubbers.
>>
>>98524916
Can you give an example where heavy stubber and heavy bolter are mutually exclusive options? Most IG vehicles have a heavy bolter on them as a standard secondary weapon (on the hull or sponsons) while the heavy stubber is a separate uprade for the pintle.

>How so? It blasts the target with heat, melting it. What other portrayals are there?
NTA but he's probably talking about how depictions of melta actually firing tend to be weird. Sometimes its more like a beam, sometimes its more like a flamer, and sometimes its a weird heat wave gun

The average IG regiment mows down cultists or no-name xenos. The players choosing for against relatively equal armies is an abnormal case.

Not any of the prior anons, you're being obtuse. Melta has always had the most variation between firing a cone or straight line, exactly how far, how the tech works. This is most important in vidya ofc, just see the latest depictions - SM2 has it act like a shotgun, HD2 is a much longer range straight and continuous lance of heat.

Should have FOMO'd 3 of them, like all the other good Defiler bois.

>3rd party video games depict the melta differently
>thus GW's depiction is inconsistent
Ok.
>Melta has always had the most variation between firing a cone or straight line
Can you show GW examples of this? Closest I can think of is 2e Dreadnought multi-meltas being able to fire it as a heavy flamer and that's specifically mentioned as an alternative firing mode for that specific weapon.

Is the sequel to the cringe and the reddit any good? Been looking for something to listen to.
