Nothing wrong with them being Wyld Barbarians, either.

Does it say what kind of mundane metallurgy is used in general for the different parts of Creation?I imagine The Realm can make various types of steel, but reserves it for weapons and armor for higher up legion commanders (and to mix it with jade for artifact alloys) and high quality tools. They probably have a lot of wrought or cast iron they use for legion equipment and civilian tools and equipment. The Threshold nations probably have access to some steel, but don't have the sheer volume the Realm can produce. They probably rely on wrought/cast iron and have bronze in poorer regions.Western island nations and tribes that lost infrastructure and trade in the Great Contagion/Balor Crusade probably had to resort to bronze and maybe even copper tools if the knowledge loss was steep enough. For everybody else I guess it depends on how badly their metallurgy knowledge and production bases got ripped open in the Great Contagion/Balor Crusade. Throw a dart at the wall to see how much they kept. Worst probably got knocked down to stone or copper.People that live near Fae probably had to keep that knowledge or they got wiped out.
>>98539419Yes, it was mentioned up thread, that merit was the beginning of the series version of it.
>even basic spirit enemies like dogs of the broken earth and blood-apes have Excellencies in 2EI thought 3E Blood Apes were rough...
>>98539452Fair enough.>>98539443>Does it say what kind of mundane metallurgy is used in general for the different parts of Creation?Individual locations and cultures have descriptions of their tech level, but there are no rules to roll a random settlement and see what they are capable of. On average you will find a bunch of Bronze Age gear unless you are under the banner of a group with magical bullshit, such as a craftsman deity or a vassal of the realm getting steel in exchange for exotic slaves and goods.
Mind if I ask for your help, /exg/? I'm working on a little project to revamp Martial Arts across the board. I'm going to need every source, no matter how obscure or trivial, about the themes and concepts in every Martial Art in the game.
>>98539777You might as well read every book then.Memes aside what is the goal and what version are you using?
>>98539785>Memes aside what is the goal and what version are you using?3e but I might do a 2e hack if I have enough autism left once I'm done. The intent is to revamp MA from just a set of Charms that are often less shiny than native Charms into something more fitting with the spirit of a deeply weaboo game: Not a collection of powers, but a series of deep philosophical and spiritual practices and studies that unlock transformative revelations in the practitioner, imbuing them with power directly flowing from the enlightenment they've reached. Martial Arts should be transformative, make a statement about who the practitioner is and that statement should be expressed in visible and awe-inspiring ways. A master martial artist should be a great and terrible example of what wisdom and power they've unleashed through the intensity of their studies to the point they've come to embody a concept. And they should be cool enough to make players seriously consider picking them up instead of Sorcery, given they compete directly for room in the same chapter. 3e MA should be as cool as 3e made Sorcery.
>>98539828So you want to make all Martial Arts SMA?
>>98539848>So you want to make all Martial Arts SMA?Picrel. Or at least something players might actually want to purchase with their hard-won XP and become genuinely invested in rather than an afterthought.
>>98540201I understand where you're coming fromA system where you could invest deeper into a single Martial Art could be neatI think additional Charms might be too much, but maybe you could buy Merits that enhance certain actionsLike if you flurry a Move/Rush-Attack enhanced with only Tiger Style you accrue less penaltiesThat's not a very "mystical" example, but it's something
>>98540389>A system where you could invest deeper into a single Martial Art could be neatYes, and also even more of a pipe dream: Make the archetype of the martial artist that seeks to master all styles actually doable.>I think additional Charms might be too much, but maybe you could buy Merits that enhance certain actions>Like if you flurry a Move/Rush-Attack enhanced with only Tiger Style you accrue less penalties>That's not a very "mystical" example, but it's somethingThat's neat, though what I wanted to elaborate on was non-combat utility and roleplaying potential. Let's take Tiger Style for example. What kind of training does one need to undergo to get started on understanding the mysteries of the style? What meditations does one need to perform on which concepts to mentally prepare for unlocking the mystical insights that unlock mastery of Tiger Style Charms? What changes does the stylist undergo, mentally, metaphysically and even bodily, as he gradually comes to embody the concept of the Tiger as part of mastering the style? And on a more prosaic level, what does that translate into in terms of mechanics besides "punch gooder"?
>>98539622dont be mistaken, 2nd ed blood apes are only a threat if you are not combat built at all. them having excellencies mean very little since their dice cap is their essence rating.
>>98540554Blood Apes also don't have perfects IIRC and are pretty easy to kill. They can flurry though so you need some kind of flurry breaker.

>>98540757Wasn't there a Sorcerer Charm that halfed the cost of spells in exchange for making everything else twice as expensive? You could have that for MAs.
>>98536363I mean I definitely see something in Exalted I like compared to other tabletop games: a place which encourages to radically change the game world from the get-go and places which let you be superhuman in any area you want. Don't get me wrong, I think there are ways Ex3 can be improved, but even I feel like I've hit bedrock and can't really advance without starting something from scratch to address this. The sad truth is that the game probably needed more time to iron out some edges, but by doing that they would've caused a bunch of people to jump ship (including myself).>>98536404You ALWAYS find these bootlickers. I swear some people either expect you to be a blackpiller doomer or someone that showers something they like with glowing praise. I consider the latter to be far worse. Look what happened to Concord. One is capable of giving critique about something in order to improve the product, and if you don't like it then that's not my problem.I'm still fucking salty about how some of my criticisms/fixes were shot down by people, only to see those same people glowingly praise the devs and writing team for doing the exact same thing. Christ, it's like people literally look for opinions to be fed online and dogmatically adhere to them.
>>98540673in 2nd ed, gods, demons, fey and sidereal have a dice cap of essence. i dont remember for ghost, enlightened mortals and dragonkings/jadeborn.

>>98540822None of the editions have had rules that make the game a workable kingdom/x4 sim sadly. At that point I'd think you'd have to go digital but I also don't know what kind of table top games pull that off so maybe I'm wrong. For the devs, well. There is clearly a large amount of drama there and the fandom, like all fandoms, has stupid people. Just look at the other thread and how people just refused to accept the obvious Uzumaki reference. If someone doesn't want to believe something you won't change them. Ambush rules are another example of drama because you can see the games that were played before the errata. It's just bad balance and game design that I'm sure was pointed out.I've come to the conclusion that there are mechanics and things that the devs like and those will be in the game if said devs work on a product. Vance seems to be behind the perfect paradigm in 2e and 3e, some other devs seems to be huge into dice tricks (I like these actually, they are just used as filler which sucks) and another who really likes sub-systems, which I also agree with. Breaking down what comes from where though I don't know how that'd be possible. I personally don't like keeping track of tokens but crafting freaks gonna freak.
>>98540822>Christ, it's like people literally look for opinions to be fed online and dogmatically adhere to themThe same thing happened to the hero keyword, some people will only go with what is official no matter what
>>98540847Wasn't it called Birgeit heir or Path of Petash?

>>98541051Quit? You haven't seen my next project yet.
>>98539056>>98539224One idea for bloodlines is having them be the result of clans descended from a genocided Primordial race. Each clan's Kekkei Genkai is a small Charm tree, each of which is just a piece of the full-blooded ancestor's full Charmset.
>>98539443The Realm has steel, for sure. Nexus produces iron on a large scale and sells iron tools across the East and beyond. I'm not sure if bronze being the material of poorer regions makes that much sense. Obviously it depends on the availability of copper and tin, which doesn't have to be similar to real world in Creation, but IRL iron is a whole lot more abundant than either copper or tin, and obviously not reliant on having both of those materials. I kind of doubt whether a society that's once been capable of ironworking would lose that ability and move to bronzeworking out of necessity. IRL at least in the MENA region and Europe bronze-making was reliant on quite a widescale and long-ranging network of trade, and disruption in that network was a major driving force behind move to widescale use of iron, with early Iron Age being in many ways poorer and more primitive than the Late Bronze Age. If things work similarly to Creation, I'd expect a region that engages in large-scale trade to obtain copper and/or tin and therefore must have regular contact with other regions to also learn of iron metallurgy through those connections, even if they had at some point lost that. So, iron for the most part and steel for some of the more advanced cultures and steel weapons as expensive, high-status imports among less advanced cultures would be my impression. Not that I can point to any specific source right now to back that up, so take it with a grain of salt.>Just look at the other thread and how people just refused to accept the obvious Uzumaki reference.Because, anon, it's also an obvious Werewolf: the Apocalypse reference, and, not sure why this even needs to be repeated, there's literally no reason for devs to lie about what it's referencing.>Vance seems to be behind the perfect paradigm in 2e and 3eVance wasn't a writer until late 2E, so he obviously wasn't responsible for something that's rooted in basic mechanics in 2E core.
>>98541366Latter part of this post being in response to >>98540851, of course.>>98541300That could be a pretty cool idea, actually. Not just a good way to do a Naruto reference, but it could actually be a cool thing to have in the setting.
>>98541366I'll have to double check that Vance thing because someone so in denial about an obvious Ito reference clearly can't be trusted.
>>98541374>Not just a good way to do a Naruto reference, but it could actually be a cool thing to have in the setting. The setting already had it with the Lyntha, I don't think we ever got their charms
>>98541418Why are you in denial about an obbious Apocalypse refeence, though...? But go ahead and check Vance's writing credits. I believe that Compass: Autochthonia, Masters of Jade and Shards were the only 2E books he was involved in, and then he's worked on every 3E book starying with the core. IIRC he was in college when he was working on 3E core - I used to follow development pretty closely then, and the 3E team then was pretty active on various forums - so he was probably a middle schooler or something like that back when the 2E core was written.
>>98541366That's a good point with bronze availability vs iron availability, and knowledge of ironworking spreading through trade
>>98541453That said, I could see some part of Creation favoring bronze for other reasons. Maybe it's pleasing to a locally prominent god, maybe there's a tresty with a neighboring bunch of Fair Folk that includes a clause about not mining or importing iron, or something else along those lines.
There's something seriously wrong with this discussion about Aiun. The "it is totally from Apocalypse" party defensiveness reminds me of that anon who had a meltdown once it was pointed out that 1e Raksi was more depraved than she was memed as being.>>98541445>Why are you in denial about an obbious Apocalypse refeence, though.Anon... you are coming as delusional.
>>98541474It's a spooky spiral in a game with White Wolf legacy. So far I haven't really heard much of an argument for why it being a referemce to the Black Spiral Labyrinth would be umbelievable. I guess I'll bow out of this discussion at least until something new is said on the subject, though.
>>98541487Anon... I played Apocalypse, I know full well that Spiral isn't remotely like Apocalypse's beyond both having spiral in their names.>White Wolf legacyWhite Wolf legacy is also outright copy-pasting passages of books for their lore, and Sidereals also had a blatant reference to Junji Ito's the hole.
>>98541445I can see it being a mix of both because if I was a White Wolf dev who had Black Spiral Dancers and then wanted to weeb out with Ito my dick would be rock hard. This is besides the point tho because it's clearly an Ito thing.>Vance wasn't even in college yet he couldn't have worked on 2e core. That would actually make things a bit difficult. Maybe he's just a fan of the perfect paradigm.
>>98541474>There's something seriously wrong with this discussion about Aiun.To me the problem is that there's no particular reason anyone should give a shit to begin with. Yes, the developers are asshats, we know, we've always known. I don't think anybody's been surprised that the developers did stupid shit and took credit for patently transparent rips from other franchises, and whether it's Ito or WtA does nothing to change that they've taken from elsewhere and claimed it for their own. Big fucking whoop.
>>985415843E doesn't have anything like 2E's perfect paradigm. Ambushes may be too powerful, but they're not a problem on anywhere near the same level. I don't know if anyone's a fan of paranoia combat, really. It's not like it was something 2E devs intentionally chose to design but a consequence of design flaws.
>>98540843Ghosts and enlightened mortals generally don't have access to excellencies so they don't have a dice cap per se. Where they would, it's based on the kind of other charms they're using/getting access to. The Jadeborn also aren't made with access to Excellencies, but they have a number of charms that convert dice to successes or add some virtue or similarly limited bonus to rolls. Given their limited access to things not in their patterns, the limits may as well be Virtue and being able to have a standing Att+Ability pool of 13. The dragon kings don't have excellencies, but they do have much better access to things like that. Their die caps are Path rating if it's a Path adding to their rolls, and Ability for other stuff.
>>98542335There is a glaringly one, plagiarism.Once they failed and refused to give Ito is due credits, they lost any credibility as writers.
Holy shit. It's just an Ito reference. It's not plagiarism and if people are too stupid to see the obvious commonality then that's their problem. It's literally less then a page in a whole RPG book. You are allowed to love things and put things like them in your books. If you make a giant laser beam charm because the Kamehameha is super cool that's not plagiarism. That just shows you love Dragon Ball. For the devs being liars, well, what the fuck else is new.>>98542567>Hyper lethality>Mechanic that can one shot unless countered by a limited resource.>Splitting defense charms into two different subcategories.>A favoritism towards dodge being the strongest defensive arch-type.>A mechanic that makes it so players feel a need to homebrew perfect defences in order to handle it.>A "base defense" where if your kit doesn't have it you leave yourself open to being one shot.>High health pool is considered a way to deal with this even though in practice it doesn't work like that because of the damage numbers. It's the same shit. It's also hard to argue about things being the same when I know the people I'm talking to can miss the single most obvious reference to ever reference. Or parody or whatever you want to call it. This Ito thing is profoundly silly. Ito is cool. We need more Ito stuff in games. DnD shouldn't be the only thing allowed to 'borrow' stuff.
>>985429502E's problem was that it was hyper lethal as a baseline, and you couldn't really avoid that, hence perfect spam. Having a specific tactic that's too lethal isn't compsrable to that. The easiest solution to that is just a gentleman's agreement to not overdo ambushes. Obviously it's not great to have a mechanic that's best avoided, but the very fact that you can just not use ambushes or only use them rarely already makes a world of difference to 2E. Also you need specific circumstances to pull off an ambush, while in 2E those potentially one-shotting attacks were just regular, spammable strikes, and that is also a big difference in lethality between the editions.
>>98543125In 2E you needed Combos right? You couldn't just layer every Reflexive/Supplemental Charm onto an ambush attack you can in 3E without having to invest in it
>>98543125I don't disagree with this but the similarities are still there and damn strong. You're not surviving an ambush attack as a player or as an NPC unless you have those anti-ambush charms even if you're a super tank. You'd need to be an infernal with a free revive to full HP.I'm going to try and drop the ambush topic because I haven't talked to a math guy about it in awhile. From my understanding the whole "spamming it" was actually possible and damn near impossible to resist but I am not even going to attempt the math on this.
>>98543164No one used combos. Buying a charm that you can't use because you need to put it in a combo first sucked really bad from what I remember. It becomes an issue when you have a lot of charms but isn't one till then.
>>98543170I mean, you definitely can tank an ambush. It's not like they do more damage that regular decisives by default. They're nasty but not automatic instant death. >I'm going to try and drop the ambush topic because I haven't talked to a math guy about it in awhile. From my understanding the whole "spamming it" was actually possible and damn near impossible to resist but I am not even going to attempt the math on this.Do you really need a math guy to just look at the ambush Charms and see that they require specific conditions that make them difficult to spam? I'm willing to believe that there are specific builds that break the game by exploiting ambushes, and they're a bit too much even without exploits, but having specific game breaking builds is still pretty far from 2E's issues.
>>98543193>It's not like they do more damage that regular decisives by default. They're nasty but not automatic instant death.Isn't the problem that you can't use defensive Charms against an Ambush? While your opponent can juice up their attack to annihilate you.
>>98543178The more it is talked about, the more I believe that the real problems are the charm tree design and the devs attempts of keeping the players away from their own charms.
>>98543207There are still charms you can use but it specifically has to say it can be used against ambushes. It also sets your defense to 0. But yes, they are hyper lethal. Thematically they're also best defended against by things that have your character dodge, meaning the highest damage stuff is defended by something that goes against a "tank" theme. It's been awhile since I've gone over this stuff though and I might be wrong on some details.>>98543193>Do you really need a math guy.Yes. desu I trust a math guys. I'm still reeling from that Ito thing. It's the most obvious reference in the world. If people can't see that then what else can't they see. The math for ambushes as explained to me is extremely fucked and the theming is just lame. But you know what, if no math person is coming around to back me up then maybe I'm wrong. I have a hard time accepting that but maybe.
Re: the ongoing discussion about materials, do remember this is also a high fantasy setting and some nations/communities have esoteric resources particular to them. Just a few examples pulled directly from core:>Special Materials>Various unusual materials can be found all across Creation. Armaments made from these usually cost one dot of resources more than normal, and this cost can increase to two dots in regions far from where they’re normally found.>Chiaroscuro Glass>In portions of the South, especially near the city of Chiaroscuro, armorers make weapons and armor from crimson shards of the city’s almost indestructible FirstAge glass. Unlike metal armaments, which rust, chip and require regular polishing and oiling, weapons and armor made from Chiaroscuro glass require almost no care because the glass is so durable.>Feathersteel>In portions of the far North, especially in the Haslanti League, miners find veins of feathersteel in the ice-covered mountains. Feathersteel is a light metal that also has the virtue of not rusting. Feathersteel armaments never rust and are somewhat lighter than normal. All armor made from feathersteel gains the silent tag (p. 593).>IronwoodIn portions of the forests of the East, especially near the regions ruled by the Republic of Halta, woodworkers know the secret of making wood as hard as steel. Ironwood arms and armor require as much care as similar metal equipment, but are made from wood. Ironwood armor gains the buoyant tag (p. 593). Unlike other special materials, in the region where they’re made, ironwood armaments cost no more than normal. Elsewhere, they costs one resource dot more.
>>98543361>>FeathersteelI wonder if it is based on Titanium
>>98543390Aluminium.
>>98543361does the West have any exotic materials for metallurgy? I can't think of any.
>>98543621>armor made of the shells of giant grabs>coats of magically treated kelp to make them hard as chainmail>magical narwhal horn swordsJust some ideas.
>>98540851>None of the editions have had rules that make the game a workable kingdom/x4 sim sadly.A good basis for making one I think would be Population. Higher and/or more quality your Population is the more you can perform nation/kingdom wide actions with them. Raising armies, growing food, artisans and craftsmen, commerce/trade, building/rebuilding infrastructure, all require your limited Population resource.>>98543693>armor made of the shells of giant grabsI know you mean crabs here, but I had a horrific image of Wyld-mutated crabs who instead of giant claws have giant human hands they use to crush people to deathI like these ideas for substitute materials
>>98543751>I know you mean crabs here, but I had a horrific image of Wyld-mutated crabs who instead of giant claws have giant human hands they use to crush people to deathHeh. Also, another idea. Doesn't Siakal have a sword made of shark teeth? Maybe some Western nations use Thaumaturgy to "melt" shark teeth and mold them into weapons with a wicked serrated edge.
>>98543776On the idea of serrated weapons, maybe some special type of obsidian that's treated, bad for armor, but excellent as a weapon
>>98538876Ex2e taught me to love the freedom stone. In 1E I liked the Monkey Stone.
>>98543826 (me)Thinking on obsidian further, I wonder if obsidian could be used as a component to the lost recipe of Chiaroscuran glassObsidian is a glass and very sharp, and you could source a lot of obsidian from the volcanoes further SouthOf course, glass is also made of sand which they have plenty of in the South, so maybe I'm just barking up the wrong tree.
>>98543164>>98543230I think the problem was a lack of playtesting and the fact that Exalts are essentially mortals without their Charms, while all the artifact weapons were intended to instant kill heroic mortals with minimal effort (if you'll notice, the original Grand Daiklave did 12L damage; combined with 3 Strength and 1 bonus success that was doubled by HTT, it would do 17L presoak damage. Against anyone without seriously heavy artifact armor, which cost more in Artifacts and attunement motes than the weapons themselves, it was fatal or close to it. So that's the hyper lethality baseline established. The main strategies to deal with it were high DVs, which Solar Charms could get easily, backed by perfect spam and/or perfect soaks.A lot of nasty attack Charms could cut clean through your DVs (perfect attack, DV halving or negating, etc.). This is why you had a perfect defense in store to pick them off. The solution to that was spamming attacks with regular flurries or Extra Action Charms to make the enemy burn motes and WP to defend against you until they ran out of resources. Hacking through their HLs was almost a formality at that point. To deal with flurries, you had to use flurrybreakers; either hard shutdown flurrybreakers or just jumping out of the way. All these defenses need Charms, and you need all these Charms ready at all times or you're easily ganked. From this was born the "battle-state Combo", which strung all your defenses together along with an Excellency and other reflexives you might want, because Reflexives are not mandatory to use, unlike Supplementals and Extra Actions.(1/2)
>>98543776>Maybe some Western nations use Thaumaturgy to "melt" shark teeth and mold them into weapons with a wicked serrated edge.Shark teeth macuahuitls would be a similar more readily accessible weapon that wouldn't require thaumaturgy or other supernatural skills. How good a material would shark teeth be, though? If we do bring thaumaturgy into it, I guess material properties of teeth might be less important than sort of a thematic resonance, though, with a weapon made of shark teeth drawing on sharks' fearsome and predatory nature or something of the sort.>>98543944While I don't think there's anything wrong with obsidian being a component of Chiaroscuran glass, considering that it's a First Age material, it might just be based on completely artificial materials in facilities that no longer function, or, indeed, be made of regular sand, just through some superior long-lost procedure. Obsidian is cool enough that it definitely deserves to have some kind of a presence in Creation, though. I think obsidian that's been treated in a way that makes it a competitive material for weapons even for societies with access to iron is a good idea.
>>98543999(I forgot to mention that there were various other ways to chop down DVs like Surprise, which is why you needed a surprise negator in your Combo too, among other things).Your offensive stuff like Supplemental and Extra Action Charms went into "killcombos", which were basically the biggest attack you could muster to try and crack a defense, or punish a weakness of the enemy. You couldn't combine them because as mentioned earlier, Supp/ExAct forced you to use them, so you had to hold them in reserve. You also had to keep pulling off 2d stunts to keep fueling the WP expenditure for the battlestate Combo, because otherwise you'd be stuck with one defense method which a proper killcombo could chew through easily. It led to 2e combat being rocket tag and very turtly at the same time, and resources being more important than actual HLs.2.5 tried to change that by just letting you use all your Charms at all times (this is not accurate, but it's 2:40 am here and I can't be arsed to elaborate), recosting perfects, and incentivizing non-perfects, while also redoing the numbers for weapons, mote costs and so on. But Exalted really needed a 3e-level system remake, and 3e's system... still wasn't good enough.>>98544026Steelsilk is an example of a natural material that's been strengthened through thaumaturgy, no reason why obsidian couldn't benefit.
>>98544035It will always be funny how thanks for the way stunts work, low Essence characters spam charms at the level of elders, "masquerade" be damned.
>>98544334Not the case anymore, thanks to the quick fix of Essence regeneration per turn.
>>98544367Not really, the system's problems caused by elderlike charm spam continued.
>>98544381What part of characters being able to use their powers frequently is supposed to be a problem?
>>98544413The devs accidentally caused an arms race that neither them or the players could handle, it was common for people to burn themselves out from stunting so much.
>>98544453Well, that's a problem that doesn't continue in 3E, then.
>>985444883e standardized the arms race with supernal...
>>98543361is that 3rd edition?
>>98544035i made a zelda based exalted type (and setting) with each aspect using a different magical material.pearl(air), obsidian(fire), amber(earth) and coral(water) are all natural material treated with thaumaturgy.
>>98544641Yeah that's from 3E core
>lintha, necromancer, exalted as solarIs this too much of a special girl?
>>98544897Nah, she's good
>>98544897>Points at Janest>Points at Maiden of the Mirthless Smile>Points at the fate incel Sidereal leading the Getimians that PD'd Saturn out of ordaining his deathIt's an adequate amount of being a special girl.
>>98545635Yeah you're playing Exalted, it's fine to be a special girl. The hard thing is playing someone with a basic past/who is just a farmer. My greatest RPG weakness is that I love starting in taverns or dudes who were just a farmer last week and Exalted well. It's not AGAINST that but it's not really who you're meant to play. You're more... meant to play a farmer who tried to save his village or something. It's another reason I love infernals in both editions because you can play up the "Fuck, I sucked." aspect.
>>98543178>No one used combos. My GM enforced combosAnd also halved XP gain as he thought things became too powerful. It was the only exalted game I could find in my language at the time.
>>98545648I feel like at a certain point, playing that one dude who just got Exalted because he was a slightly more cool person than usual and won a drinking contest IS a sort of special girl in Exalted specifically, where it seems taken as a given everyone Chosen has a certain amount of adversity, passion or in some editions active intervention by divine powers behind their selection. Also, Panther jokes aside having some kind of inner epiphany seems to be a valid Exaltation trigger.
>>98544665I would have used magic-treated fulgurites for air, but the logic for the others is sound.
>>98545635>Maiden of the Mirthless SmileWho?
>>98545658I love this.
>>98545933One of the death lords no one remembers or at least a major underworld figure that no one uses enough to remember.

>>98546098oh the lady that the Bull was fighting in that one comic
>>98546098I didn't know her hands were red.
>>98539001>a few dragon blooded clans with a bunch of supernatural power that sound kind of dumb. You say this but the forest witches have had a writeup in every single edition of exalted.

>>98543621I think it would pretty damn hard to obtain, first because there's very little land in the West, and second it's not like people will know or find materials deep in the ocean. I think Wavecrest has active volcanoes so there's that.
When people talk about tiger soldiers, they mean the guys trained using the war charm, right? So archers, greatswords, cavalry can all be tiger soldiers as long as they are trained using the charm.Do the other exalted types have their own super soldier training charms?
>>98546158Tiger Warriors are the product of Tiger Warrior Training Technique and yes any soldiers/warriors trained under it are Tiger Warriors though I'm uncertain if they're called that in-universe
>>98546113Well, she's a psychopath who murdered animals, her pets, her maid, her parents, then walked up to Masky to murder him (but got killed in turn) so it makes sense that her hands are red. They're probably gloves or something. Maybe that blood armor charm abyssals have.>>98546135She just really stands out as a pretty fucked up person among the Abyssals. Iconic Midnight is a murder prostitute priestess who was the Pokemon Champion of STDs and wants to degrade everyone to her level. Iconic Daybreak is a maddo scientist relative of Ragara Bhagwei, but his interest is just clinical. There is a Midnight Caste who leans into the whole "speaker of the dead thing". The Shoats of the Mire have always been brainwashed child soldiers so they're not fully responsible for their own actions. >>98546158Tiger-Warriors is the catchall term for elite troops mass produced by Tiger-Warrior Training technique, yes. It is notable that in 2e, even kids, cripples, elderly and anons would become the equivalent of 1950s US Marines after a month of that training regimen and Tier 1 special forces with a bit more experience after that.Abyssals use their own version of TWTT called Ruthless Killer Technique or something, forgot the exact name. It removes compassion and gives valor and the expansion eventually turns them into creatures of darkness with undead-level perfect morale.DBs have their own training Charms but they're not as comprehensive or powerful as the Solar version. In general it just improves their discipline rather than fundamentally reshaping them like TWTT does. However they have Tiger-Dragon Drill Approach which lets them act as conduits for TWTT.Sidereals don't have training Charms, IIRC. Neither do Alchemicals, though I might be wrong. They definitely have mass combat Charms, but nothing that improves the baseline troops quality through magical means.>>98546188I think they were called Tiger Warriors in Cult of the Illuminated. Specifically at Kether Rock.
>>98546192I saw the charm's duration is one week. So does this mean after a week all the tiger soldiers turn back to normal, so you need at least weekly training to maintain the force? Or is the effect permanent and can even last past the Solar's death?
>>98546272It means that the training takes a week, and then they're permanently buffed afterwards. You don't activate it and give them immediate stats, the charm's duration describes their training time and if it's cancelled halfway through the charm has no effect. This is described in the charm. Which, if you saw it's duration, you could easily have read.
>>98546192>I think they were called Tiger Warriors in Cult of the Illuminated. Specifically at Kether Rock.I checked and they were refered to as such. Though as "tiger warriors" rather than "Tiger Warriors"It's an interesting book to be certain. Having the standard be 4 years of training before the Solars are released on Creation is interesting. I like the idea of "The Tea Gardens of Yu-Shan" group they posit as well.Joseph One-Shoe being an in-universe name for a Sidereal hit me like a truck>>98546272As long as they complete the training they get to keep whatever got improved, even if the Solar died.
>>98546192>Well, she's a psychopath who murdered animals, her pets, her maid, her parents, then walked up to Masky to murder him (but got killed in turn)So fantasy female Patrick Bateman, got it.
>>98546291The naming sense in that book was weird. Like, one of the Dawns is called Michael. >>98546272A lot of people have already said that a single week permanently transforms the tiger warriors, but if you continuously train them for a month or so I think they can level up even more. Like, there used to be three main categories of troops in 2e (green, average, elite). One week of TWTT turns ANYONE into elite troops (the equivalent of Realm heavy infantry, complete with ability and attribute boosts) and lets you add a dot in a warlike ability or atrribute to them.A later book added another category above that, "superior", and states that gunzosha and experienced tiger warriors fall into that category. >>98546316It's funny because she has Appearance 5. This makes the whore priestess in her Circle jealous because she's effortlessly pretty when she had to work at it, but Maiden is also largely immune to the priestess' seduction attempts because she just wants to murder shit as painfully as possible.
>>98546327Exalted naming scheme is pretty much random, cbn had a night caste named Elias
If things don't decay Elsewhere, are people thrown Elsewhere (e.g. Pressed Beyond the Veil of Time) immortal?
>>98546371Yes. And conscious. And unable to do anything. Some Twilight invented a belt that allowed him to go elsewhere to steal all the loot in there. It worked but he realized he couldn't move.
>>98546327>Like, there used to be three main categories of troops in 2e (green, average, elite). One week of TWTT turns ANYONE into elite troops (the equivalent of Realm heavy infantry, complete with ability and attribute boosts) and lets you add a dot in a warlike ability or atrribute to them. Are you not thinking of 3E Battle Groups with Poor, Average and Elite, with TWTT turning Poor Drill into Average with the stats of battle-ready warriors after 1 week and Elite Drill with elite troop stats after a month of TWTT
>>98546389I was conflating it with its 1E effects. In 2E it just raises 1 stat at a time, though the drill still goes up.
I have a problem with Exalted guys. Whenever I play Exalted I get terrible gas, like eye-watering level. For some reason this never happens when I play other tabletop games, only when I play exalted.Does anyone here have a solution? I'm positive someone here had the same issue before.
>>98546375>Yes. And conscious. And unable to do anything. Some Twilight invented a belt that allowed him to go elsewhere to steal all the loot in there. It worked but he realized he couldn't move.I literally provided an example in the question where people are being sent Elsewhere and still able to move around and do stuff. You can explicitly walk around and time still passes there.
>>98546734Well, one of these is wrong, then. Or maybe Pressed has special rules.
>>98546748The manse power that sends a trapped room Elsewhere also lets people move around within the room. And Autochthon is Elsewhere but civilizations exist inside him just fine. The consistent through line seems to be that only the external stuff facing directly into Elsewhere is frozen, anything stored inside of a thing can move around fine.Having thought on my original question some more the answer is no, because mortals in Autochthon are mortal. And also the 'nothing decays Elsewhere' side bar in 2e core has some pretty serious examples against it being anything other than bullshit.
>>98546145West has little land compared to the amount of water and compared to the other Directions, but there's still plenty of land. Some of those islands are huge. There are also people living underwater and cities on the bottom of the ocean, and some of those civilizations have contact with surface-dwellers, so materials from the depths don't need to be unknown or inaccessible, either.
>>98546849Yeah, Pressed seems consistent with that interpretation and so does that Manse power. That dumb Twilight probably sent himself in without protection, so it's no wonder he got stuck.
>>98546748I swear it doesn't work like it does in the comics. I swear.

>>98548095Yes, you did talk about the withering attack part. Your conclusion>[Chopping's] only useful against artifact armor and magic that grants Hardness, and big creaturesis talking about the Chopping tag, not just the decisive attack part of it. Your justification for that conclusion is only talking about the decisive attack part, which is why I pointed out the withering attack part.
>>98546748They can both be right. You can move in the elsewhere room because it acts like a bubble, where elsewhere only applies to the room's exterior. The twilight in the comic can't move because he sent himself in directly, so elsewhere affects him.
>>98548168Do you think Chaos-Repelling Pattern, Integrity-Protecting Prana, or the Ring of Being would have saved him?
>>98548151>Your justification for that conclusion is only talking about the decisive attack part, which is why I pointed out the withering attack part.I didn't mention the Withering part in my initial post because I wasn't talking aboutWithering Chopping AttacksA Decisive Chopping Attack is only useful against opponents who get Hardness, and not somebody who doesn't get Hardness

>>98550423>I just find the idea of stacking immortality/revives like Sun Wukong to be fun. It's so weird that we can technically do this with sorcery and the Core book even says that immortality has a catch so you're basically encouraged to stack workings like that but then it never bothers to tell you what level of working immortality is.
I like that one 2E comic where Panther wakes up after getting his ass kicked by his former gladiator partner turned Abyssal and he's been captured by a loony fan of his who chained him up
>>98550485I liked the 2e chapter comics because of the little vignettes they gave into the world. LIke Burning Feather twisting Demetheus' ear about being a drunken bum.
>>98550443Being extremely generous, maybe the idea is that you're supposed to scale your level of immortality to the level of working? Like you're just biologically immortal at Terrestrial, and at Solar you can resurrect from your favourite manse no matter what in a year unless someone sticks a magic feather up your urethra or something.Amusingly this also trivialises the "no perfect immortality" rule unless you're lazy enough to stop at like, 5-6 forms of sorcerous working immortality. Make yourself immortal except to being burned alive, then make another working that snuffs out all flames in your presence, then make another working that adds a different immortality condition contingent on being duty bound to defend the Realm that must ALSO be bypassed lest you resurrect another way, then make a sorcerous working that lets you gain Essence from being immolated etc. Really just asking you not to have skill issues.
>>98550497>Burning Feather twisting Demetheus' ear about being a drunken bum.For the uninitiated, Burning Feather is the Lady of Intoxicants, AKA the goddess of going on a bender. Demetheus got so incredibly drunk while wallowing in grief he made the very deity of getting drunk and high disgusted with him and made her tell him off and demand he clean up his act.

>hearthstones are the size of large chicken eggs
>>98550972Really cool. I had this idea for an charm line for Abyssals where you remove your characters ability to die. You are now basically a Neverborn, besides ST fiat you can't die. When you would die, X happens, like you stand up. Or you teleport somewhere. Or whatever form of revive sounds cool and fits your character (take over random extra body, tons of options.).Balance wise it makes it so that you don't lose from damage anymore, although you still take penalties. Your lose condition is being rendered unable to move or being captured. Thematically I know people dislike the idea of Solars not being able to kill literally everything but that doesn't matter to me, I feel more like they should be able to handle any situation instead.I used to think "Hey, it's lame this thing can't die" but I don't really anymore. Not being able to die doesn't mean you can't lose and I think the stories you could tell with the PC or some NPC being immortal would be very neat. I also like a characters lose condition no longer being having no HP. Plus, if your PC's take it, they'd be more willing to try fights where they can't win, because 'dying' a few times is just another path to victory.
>>98550871I remember this dumb bitch was strangled to death in a threshold at twilight or something.
>>98551185Not to call Exalted artifacts out for being gaudy or anything, but imagine wearing a giant chicken egg on your forehead with one of those tiaras. I guess it'd cover the caste mark but I mean come on guys what're we doing. They could've at least made them vary in size a bit so that you could put them on rings or chokers or whatever.
>>98551505>They could've at least made them vary in size a bit so that you could put them on rings or chokers or whatever. It'd be good if both artifacts and hearthstones varied in size. Having a fuckhuge stone on your brown or on a necklace is silly, sure, but those bigass swords don't fit every character's aesthetics, either. And before anyone point out that short daiklaves are a thing, while they are less fuckhuge, they are actually still quite large, with significantly longer blades than most one-handed swords. Artifacts should definitely be showy and even gaudy, as a role, but it'd be nice if some of them were showy in ways that don't require them to be oversized.
>>98550871Tbqh if I'm ever stupid enough to void my protections or I ever piss off someone clever enough to rules lawyer through my concealed methods of immortality, I deserve to eat shit.

>>98553509Having ran a long campaign of it? Best chassis for Exalted mechanics by far (which is sad given WoD20th's quality], but Holden's autism and frankly wrong understanding of the World of Darkness means you have to put in all the stuff he insists isn't there but 100% absolutely is. Battlegroups, social projects, artifacts, full sorcery, etc. Luckily 1E runs on almost the same version of Storyteller so porting is not hard.
>>98554470Right on. Ive got a friend who's going to start a campaign soon so I was hoping to hear about others' experiences.I kinda get why he structured it the way he did by saying "its totally not there" since WoDs cosmology is a jumbled mess anyways. Im glad to hear that its a good vector for Exalted, though. It seems like he did a really good job writing the charms, too. Im honestly hyped for my Abyssal.
>>98554528I recommend either playing the original releases as I did (The core and companion) OR if you do play Revised ExWoD to use the optional scene-long excellences OR use the Battlegroup rules in the Black Vault release doc. If you don't do one of these three things then 50 of anything will kill even the strongest Exalt which I don't care what Holden says is not canon. The game otherwise is great, free-buying Charms works very well, Essence/Turn is way more intuitive than combos, and the entire experience is just fun. I ran for about 70 sessions before IRL killed the game. My party amongst other things took over Endron Oil and turned it into Kaiba Corp, survived a Technocratic city-wide manhunt with a shockwave clause, got blasted into space, stole a helicopter from President Trump (indirectly), the Abyssal became the most wanted man in America, briefly teamed up with the Ninja Turtles (it was the Dreaming) and invaded the Infernal's inner Hell and took over an entire planet after battering their way through thousands of demons. Oh and the Abyssal is engaged to a Kuei Jin and the game was a hairs breadth from a tournament arc involving every supernatural race in the state of New York which would have inadvertantly awakened the Tzmisce Antediluvian.
>>98554161Definitely buttplog hearthstones. Judging from Bright Shattered Ice's expressions she was constantly wearing one during the First Age.
>>98553632"Player-facing writing" is a fucking abomination.
>>98554551This definitely makes me feel less trepidatious about my plans. When I made my Abyssal, I maxed out both Resources and Status (Giovanni). Lore-wise he gets his resources by running a private military corporation. He basically wants to run a secretly undead army to wage war forever. Rather than trying to end the world, he's willing to put down other apocalyptic events because they would threaten his ability to wage eternal war. Mechanically, I have my perfect soak, and the charm that prevents mental/emotional influence seems like my immediate priority. But how important is essence 2? Did your party have any areas where there was a real struggle with the system?
>>98554624Player facing writing?
>>98554823The opposite of "natural language."
>>98551505pretty sure hearthstones can change shape/size to fit the socket its put in.
>>98555144but what does that have to do with martial arts
>>98554650Essence 2 isn't important to start with but you'll want it pretty soon with XP. Something to keep in mind is that Exalts do not start out as high level World of Darkness characters. They are normal tier World of Darkness characters with a couple high level powers to start off with. Imagine playing as a 12th Generation Brujah who had Celerity 9 and no other Disciplines. That isn't a Methusaleh tier vampire, its a neonate with a big hammer. That's going to be your Exalt until you've got about 100+ Experient Points. You're going to want to leverage your big hammer while keeping in mind you lack a ton of competencies other high level characters take for granted. Being a neonate who can jump miles through the air, run 100+ MPH and kill an infinite number of scrubs is great but if they bust out poison or high explosives or undodgable attacks or mind control or 'Shaping' or something else you aren't prepared for you're going to be put on the backfoot. My Circle basically learned early on to be a little prudent and they could throw large amounts of powerful Charms in the direction of opposition without much to worry about it. As you gain a higher Essence rating and more Charms you become more and more free to act with impudence. By the end of my ExWoD campaign the Infernal was basically Yujiro Hanma. Sure the Technocracy could kill her, but not without her reinacting the plots of both The Avengers and the season 1 finale of Invincible in the middle of New York City. You never quite reach 'fight the whole setting and win on an even plain' but that doesn't stop you from wielding a ton of influence and doing shit that would be hard-to-impossible to pull off in other WoD games. The big thing my players had to feel out was exactly how strong they were, what they could get away with, and when to use Essence. I used the original release where Essence was more abundant and my players still ran out completely about 2-3 times.
>>98555231I appreciate the advice. It let's me know Im at least in the right headspace. My general idea is to use my standing in the Giovanni to engage in vampire politics in order to rule our city. >>98555180You'd be wrong. They're always described as the size of large chicken eggs, they're described as always being recognizable as hearthstones on sight to anyone who's familiar with the concept (despite the colors and patterns and textures being different every time, and there being no supernatural appearance to a lot of them, and there being no supernatural feel to any of them unless you touch them), and the only real way that makes sense would be if their shared qualities of size and gemliness remained the same. More ordinary or differently-supernatural gems do actually get used as components in artifact construction, if they changed shape/size to fit sockets then any of them could be a hearthstone.

Is it really possible for an Alchemical girl and a Sidereal boy to be in a relationship?
>>98555849Yes. No real reason why not, other than that the circumstances must be contrived. If anything a Sidereal is the most likely candidate to be in a relationship with an Alchemical shortly after a breach into Creation, because they'd share a language in Old Realm and Sidereals would be the quickest to detect the breach and fastest to get to the scene (unless it's like way late in the timeline and solar circle sorcery is in play outside Samea).
>>98555806>Ummm.... Am I still allowed to parry/dodge or do I have to stant still? At the absolute worst, if your Storyteller thinks you need to not only not take move actions but also stand still in place for the magic to work, it's still only a -5 penalty at worst. Hearing somebody sneaking up on you in supernaturally perfect silence is just a -5 penalty, and spotting someone as a blind person is just -3, so I don't think dodging while standing still could be worse.

If there's no gunpowder, are there no fireworks in Creation?
>>98557121>What is your favorite Evocation and why?Evocation from the Mirror. Reason one is that it's like five very powerful effects in one spell - it's a save or lose against difficult-to-empower attributes, it's a perfect mind control effect with no rerolls from going against Motivation or Intimacies, it's the kind of mind control that also makes it an information gathering spell that can strip mine a target for everything they know, and when you target yourself it's also a spell that just outright duplicates you to provide a perfectly loyal ally of equal power (basically a better version of the Lunar duplication charm at like E7), and it gives you a safe redoubt to fall back to if needed that nobody can get to without dematerialization.Reason two is that it's the only Evocation. There are no other Evocations.>>98557477>If there's no gunpowder, are there no fireworks in Creation? They use firedust instead. Yes, this means fireworks burn hotter and longer and have a harder time propelling themselves around the place and are more likely to spread fires everywhere. That's part of the appeal. I for one am a fireworks-in-Creation enjoyer who happily set half a town on fire for no crime greater than kowtowing to the satrap and the Realm having pissed me off. It burned prettily, at least.
>>98557477They could make non-propellant firecrackers with firedust that burn for longer with pretty colors, and special one you can see legends, myths and stories play out in

If anyone asks just say it's a matter of regulating the dosage and whatever technobabble in order to make it shoot up and burn up safely in the sky. Given the expensive nature of firedust outside the South I imagine it's a luxury thing rich people use in special occasions. Hell, maybe some gods compete for the right to have their designated calendar holidays celebrated with fireworks as a mark of divine prestige. Other forms of fireworks not dependant on firedust are also on the table, if I have things my way.
>>98557611>Other forms of fireworks not dependant on firedust are also on the table, if I have things my way. There's a few spells that also do the trick. Flight of the Brilliant Raptor, Wheel of the Turning Heavens, Total Annihilation, as examples. I think most people just have gods flying up to celebrate in the sky for their festivals though.
>>98557477Make a cloth-covered basket with a cradle under it. Pack your explosive charge of dyed firedust at the bottom of the cradle, cover that in a thin layer of wax with a wick through it, and cover that in oil or coal to fuel your flight. The edges should be enclosed a bit. If I'm visualizing this right, you get a little glowing gaslamp looking thing flying up like a balloon into the sky until it burns through it's fuel and pops the charge. If you've shaped the charge right it explodes in a colorful spray going mostly downwards and if you're lucky you can even recover the basket afterwards.
>>98557685>There's a few spells that also do the trick. Flight of the Brilliant Raptor, Wheel of the Turning Heavens, Total Annihilation, as examples.I mean stuff that regular people can come up with and use, at most using Thaumaturgy. >>98557611>Given the expensive nature of firedust outside the South I imagine it's a luxury thing rich people use in special occasions. Hell, maybe some gods compete for the right to have their designated calendar holidays celebrated with fireworks as a mark of divine prestige.Even outside the South, firedust isn't overwhelmingly expensive. I wouldn't be surprised to see fireworks in Nexus or Lookshy, both being on the top end of technology and wealth in the setting. Sijan and Great Forks too for festivals, and because they're pretty wealthy too. I think the Haslanti would drop something festive rather than fire it up though, chance of hitting an airship is too high.>>98557764>Hm, using alchemy to make magical fireworks, I should write that down somewhere...Alchemists can synthesize firedust, even outside the South. That combined with it being well understood and thus more sought after and thus more produced by alchemists is why the substance doesn't cost ludicrous amounts even in the North (at least, that's my headcanon), though its probably also just that the South does a lot of trade. Proper crafters being involved at a step above raw materials in firework-making seems both cool and appropriate.
>>98557819>I think the Haslanti would drop something festive rather than fire it up though, chance of hitting an airship is too high. But that's part of the fun!
>>98557819>the NorthMaybe they throw literal bottled lightning into the air to make pretty light displays and localized miniature aurora borealis.

Not only will they start getting hit with economic sanctions by the Guild, but everyone will start feeling the price hike of the Guild's trade networks being disrupted.A lot of the more mundane good stuffs ingredients in Creation (Age-Staving Cordial, Sweet Cordial, probably Seven Bounties Paste too) are sourced from different corners of Creation.
>>98557888Nice digits I got. Anyway I forgot to say I thought of bottled lightning because of the North's affinity with the element of Air, which apparently encompasses both ice and lightning.
>>98557905Powdered fulgurite mixed in with firedust and various other ingredients for a firework that can produce light but doesn't produce heat or pressureHeh, maybe distilled sunshine, all light but no heat

Are there any canon charms or artifacts that would allow a Siderial to rebuild the likes of Iris? I'm making a Cult of the Illuminated game about trying to prove to heaven that the next generation of celestials is worthy of their predecessors thrones and recreating the dead gods sound like an interesting way to do it.
>>98557881>But that's part of the fun!No, see, it's more fun if they don't expect it. That way, you get scenes where the Haslanti air raiders get spooked by return fire from an improvised defense shooting fireworks up at them. Or some tourists who don't know any better lighting up air boats in the middle of a greenfield and the Haslanti having no prepared plan for dealing with that because who would be so stupid and how unlucky do you have to be to have an air boat set aflame by random firework?>>98557888>Maybe they throw literal bottled lightning into the air to make pretty light displays and localized miniature aurora borealis.I'd like it if they put iron or copper rods on their rooves to attract lightning strikes, then have the bottom of the rod go into a glass bottle for storage, like one of those tesla machines. Everybody releases the lightning at once and it arcs across rooftops to make jumping bridges between people's rods. That or they just make miniature hot air balloons like >>98557727, tie them so they don't float off in the wind, and hang lanterns from them or something. You could even pattern or stain the lanterns glass so they throw off interesting patterns on the streets or the greenfield's walls.
>>98558024Nope, that sounds like a story-long goal the ST should fiat conditions for accomplishing. If you reallly, really, really want to banalize it into hard mechanics, I'd say a Solar-level Sorcerous Working is in order.
>>98557477I'd just say that alchemists smix something with firedust to make it work, and that the "something" they use just doesn't pack enough of a punch to be used for much else than that, and refuse to go into more detail. Or then I'd do what this anon >>98557727 suggests. I mighr even be tempted to have some locations locingly train birds to fly in specific formations and then turn non-self-propelling firedust-based fireworks into those birds when it's time for a fireworks show, but...eh, while animal cruelty's hardly the worst thing that happens in Creation, that'd be a pretty messed up thing to do for very little gainand I don't think it'd be very fun to include in a game. Maybe shooting firedust-based fireworks tied to arrows into the air could work, though? The simplest thing would just be to say that fireworks are a thing because alchemists do something, though.
>>98558011>What about East and West?Scavenger Lands should melt down all of the traditions they find elsewhere into some combined monstrosity and put a spin on it involving being thoughtlessly reckless.Far East's obviously using glowbugs. You can do some really interesting things by collecting or luring them in specific ways. I'm also imagining lots of bonfire rituals. In the West... guys with torches go swinging through the rigging trying to play tag. They've got colorful trained birds and people more than willing to get good at throwing knives. I imagine every ship is different in the West. Every one of them will have something they've picked up along the way and spent far too much time practicing to death because there's nothing better to do when you're on a ship with no new people for weeks or months at a time. I mean, they meet up in ports and show off what they've got and learn new tricks, so there's still a lot of cross-contamination going on, but it's the prevalence of slow time between that makes them unique. Fuck knows what they do on the islands, probably throwing people into volcanos is their idea of a good time.
>>98558112>Maybe shooting firedust-based fireworks tied to arrows into the air could work, though?Jury-rig a catapult or ballista, or a make a slingAccidentally burn down a large portion of a local god's forest on a botched launch and she gets pissed

>>98562689>But it's not reflected in the mechanics which is what I'm trying to do.But the martial arts in that chapter are cool thoughThey're a little weaker than Solar Charms, but somebody who picks Crane or Tiger is probably trying to be an elegant martial artist or a brutal one and roleplay it like thatDrawing upon the enlightenment/wisdom is something that should be role-played, mechanically being able to use these Charms at all is because they've achieved sone form of enlightenment regarding the martial art in-characterWhile I initially liked the Brawl/MA split for 3E I've come to find it more limiting than an interesting split. Plus having to individually buy Martial Art (Style) dots is a pain.
Tbh I'd prefer just not having Martial Arts and "normal" combat Abilities be separate. Just let it all be MAs and give each Exalt a handful of native combat Charms that can be used with MAs. Maybe interpret martial arts bit broadly and let self-learned tricks of a street brawler and such count as a martial arts, but just the distinction between a warrior and a martial artist is completely unnecessary and IMO even detrimental.
Which Caste seems appropriate for an Abyssal who killed himself after he got cucked by Dragon-Blooded Noble and has his wife left him?
>>98563068Would someone who'd kill himself in that situation instead of, say, futilely trying to kill the DB and dying in the attempt or murdering the cheating wife and being executed for it really be a prime candidate for Abyssal Exaltation? That said, any Caste could work depending on the cuck's background. I don't think the manner and circumstances of death are that important when figuring out the appropriate Caste.
>>98561865Eye and Seven Despairs as anyone outside of his ex-circle. He literally does not care. He's erratic and sometimes come up with a ludicrous idea but most of the time he's the kind of boss who's full attention is on playing asshole GM for a different group and telling you to do whatever. He's the most incompetent Deathlord and has a lot of people who could be convinced to take him down, which helps a lot if you need to revolt. Canonically he gives so few shits that if he needed to Exalt a new deathknight to appease the Neverborn he'd probably delegate it to his one competent deathknight. That deathknight, Red Famine, has a whole big plan but it ends with him just swapping sides to a more competent Deathlord and leaving you in charge, and he doesn't even torch everything on his way out.Obviously not 3e Eye. 3e Eye sucks.
>>98563341Eye's one of the Deathlords who was improved the most in 3E. That said, 1E E7D was pretty different from the 2E take, too. In 1E, he was also fucking with his deathknights both literally and figuratively, but for a different reason and with a different end goal in mind, and not on the expense of his actual task. He was also actively and competently working to further the goal of the Neverborn. It's actually pretty weird how much 2E changed him.
Martial Arts are neat and I don't really have any complaints about them. I've heard from other people they're overpriced but only by so much, it's not really an issue the same way other things are. Seemed true enough at least. If I were to design martial arts I'd just make them a different type of sub-system like crafting/sorcery/ectect instead of copying the charm style that splats use. I also have no idea what that would look like.
>>98563395Why, though? What's the benefit of having martial arts be something distinct from Melee, Brawl, Thrown and Archery.
>>98563387>1E E7D was pretty different from the 2E take, too. In 1E, he was also fucking with his deathknights both literally and figuratively, but for a different reason and with a different end goal in mind, and not on the expense of his actual task. He was also actively and competently working to further the goal of the NeverbornThe situation for a deathknight outside the core group is pretty much the same though. You're wandering around under your own power doing whatever the hell you like, you still have a bunch of resources from your master with no oversight, and you still have a bunch of deathknights who'd happily turn on him if you need to revolt. Eye and Seven Despairs is, in 1e, even more caught up in the tragic treacherous love affair and the leisure of it all with his core group of deathknights than he is in 2e.
I don't like Read Intentions as a perception action. I think it should be an entirely social action, using social stats. To be more clear, what I don't like is situations where read intentions works like this:>I stare at the bad guy. What does he think of Israel vs Palestine? What I want read intentions to work like is>Charisma: I strike up conversation with the bad guy. >"Hey, how ya doin' - heard you got opinions on Israel vs Palestine, what's that all about?">Manipulation: I attempt to trick the bad guy into telling me what I want to know. >"Lot of war going on these days. Heard anything recently?"The main reason I think this should be the case is because read intentions is just really fucking boring and reliant on out of character narration as-is. You just stare at people and the Storyteller tells you stuff about them. There is very little interaction, and stunting Guile is even worse, doubly so when the person doing Read Intentions is across the room or stealthed. I want the way we find out about people and what they think to be going and talking to them, and using a persuade action to convince them to tell you about themselves is both kind of a gimmicky workaround that stinks of cheese and doesn't actually get you that hard ooc information like Defining Tie: Israel (Love) that Read Intentions does, it still requires player interpretation and guesswork to get at the mechanical details.
>>98563451I watch a lot of kung fu movies and they just feel different then what I imagine solar or infernal powers to be like. Those movies can be whack so it feels like it'd be prime for a sub-system, assuming you enjoy those kinds of things.I'm not saying I'm right or anything. Also my understanding of the current system is that it's just overpriced without making much sense in the lore of things. I guess MA's are core to certain builds but I don't know. For both 2e, 2.5, and 3e somehow.I guess if it was a custom MA system that I personally would think is cool it'd be like... something with a really quick back and forth I guess. It'd be more like it's own thing that'd add a bonus to combat instead of something you use in it. Your Eagle Under Snake Shadow style gives you an advantage in a fight, maybe an overwhelming one, but a martial arts vs martial arts fight would just use different system then people punching and laser beaming each other. This wouldn't really fit exalted mind you, it's just an idea I think is neat.
>>98563720maybe i'd look at that fae book in 2e for ideas on how to make it work.
Making Necromancy distinct from Sorcery has the after effect of making all Death related things in this one neat little box.
>>98564015this is one of the main reasons I don't care for Abyssals and their flavor. The rest of the setting does similar things to it in a way more interesting way, but the moment you get into the "Necromancy" territory it's all the same.
Nogame here, but trying to get my bearings to firstgame a 2nd edition game. So, it is me or Limit Breaks are kind of underwhelming?Let's say a Solar bends toward Compassion and has Intimacies about life-long unwavering true love. Crashing out by rolling into a ball and crying for the duration of one fight while the rest of the Cricle decimates the opponents seems like a really meaningless drawback thrown out there just to be a bother.Undying uber-beings thrown in a limbo of perpetual unliving agony and casting a Great Curse to twist the Solars' magnificence and ambition into ruin, for me, would be something more in the lines of (let's crank the edge to 11 just for the argument's sake) > "They go into a [however meaningfully long] rape spree because their own god-tier ego prevents them from even comprehend that they might not be loved by everybody, so here comes the loving whenever they want it or not".Exalted does seem to me a pretty player-involved system (stunts are a simple example), so it's not even like "You lose agency on your character and they go raping", it's a collaborative "Ok, now you live as your worst self in a way - and for long enough - that justifies the Solars being genocided in order to save the world, and still deemed Anathema. How that would look?"Is that a thing that gets worse with time (and or Essence score)? Like ok, sure, game-tier Solars are still in the roll-into-a-ball phase but as they get more powerful they lose more control? Is that somewhat regulated in any way?Am I reading all of this wrong?

>>98561865Princess Heron seems good because she desperately needs a deathknight to be her agent. Play your cards right and you can make her dependent on you. Only problem is falafel getting jealous.Speaking of which, Falafel is highly intelligent and competent when it doesn't involve Princess Heron. You could go far by just being a capable minion since he'd probably trust you with a ton of resources. Plus since his main fortress is deep in the Underworld, you'll have a ton of latitude on Creation missions since you'll be operating remotely for a long time.
>>98564029>Undying uber-beings thrown in a limbo of perpetual unliving agony and casting a Great Curse to twist the Solars' magnificence and ambition into ruin, for me, would be something more in the lines of (let's crank the edge to 11 just for the argument's sake)This would be a valid curse break and not too far out of line with some of the others, yes. You could also argue that the Overindulgence Temperance flaw does have people do that, and the flaws in Core are only examples - you're encouraged to make up your own.>Is that a thing that gets worse with time (and or Essence score)?Well, the influence is the same. You're usually still experiencing the same limit break at Essence 2 and Essence 9. The main difference is capability and position. While it often matters a lot less for the ones that basically make you go catatonic like Heart of Tears (but it DOES still matter because you tend to make more and more powerful enemies as you get stronger who can take advantage of it), something like Red Rage of Compassion or Heart of Flint is expected to kill and ruin more and more lives as your capacity to do so increases.
>>98564029Limit break became a way to punish your players for acting out of character with their virtue scores and later intimacies. As to why it's kinda garbage? >>98565942Considering Grabowski's comments, no, it is just a flaw; the people who didn't like the great curse just didn't get, it and didn't enjoy Greek tragedies* as much as he did.*Ignore Aristotle's criticism about this kind of plot device.
>>98565942That's as bullshit as "People playing WW:tA who don't enjoy the concept of Frenzy".> What makes you awesome also makes you a danger to everybody around you to the point you yourself might prefer to jump off a cliffis at the goddamn core concept of the game.Fucking crybabies
>>98566378Exalted would still be Exalted without Limit or Great Curse. AFAIK it's a mechanic that was added fairy late in the development process, not something that was there from the start and not a part of the core concepts. Exalts being flawed heroes is pretty central to the game, but Limit is hardly the only possible way to achieve that.
>Other Notes: Iron inflicts aggravated damage on a faerie, and hecannot soak it with Stamina. Against iron weapons, the faerie has Defense of 6L/6B, from his gossamer garb. Note that most weapons in Creation are made of steel or bronze, not iron.what do they think steel is
>>98561865Lover so I can finally have sex
This is a really random question, but do female dragon kings have breasts? I just have to know
>>98567015No, I don't believe they doAll the art I looked doesn't have any
>>98566625In European folklore, faes are weak against cold iron.Cold iron was just medieval equivalent of hot lead.Cold iron wasn't different from regular iron, as seen in ordinary iron tools being lucky charms capable of banishing evil. But out of fear of giving fairies such a common weakness, writers will try to make some definition that doesn't include steel or/and "ordinary" iron.
>>98567116So just wrought iron that's been fully cooled down after being forged, alright then
>>98567130Yes, in folklore, an iron knife buried under the entrance of a home, would protect it against witches. And horseshoes made of iron would be used to protect against Satan. In exalted, the difference between iron and steel is just to not end up giving the raksha such a wide weakness.Changeling the lost, also struggled with it.

>>98568020>Tepet EjavaAspectbook Wood pg37>I witnessed two of the General’s three romantic endeavors and found tales easily enough of the third. They are all of them tragic tales I would not wish on anyone.>...>In the early days of her exile, Tepet Ejava pursued a pirate captain who had roamed the seas long years before Ejava’s coming. He was her first great quarry in the Southwest. For three months, she chased him. A dozen times they met in battle and he slipped from her grasp until, at last, she caught him, by luck alone, asleep on his ship. His crew was captured or killed. He was made prisoner that the General might wring the whereabouts of the other two ships in his flotilla that were not anchored with him. Though her torturers brought him to the brink of death a dozen times, he would not speak. She sent them out and spoke alone with the captain, called Redfoam. She emerged briefly and ordered her cabin to be undis-turbed. For three days, the door remained shut, and she permitted no visitors. On the fourth day, she emerged. Redfoam was tied hand and foot and keelhauled until he was dead. Within a week, the other two ships were found and burned, their crews slain to a man.>Lissom Avid EngineerThe comic between chapters 2 and 3 of Manual of Exalted Power: The Alchemicals. The next page after picrel has a clear shot identifying her after being turned on.
>>98568020Bro already quoted the relevant section but this is the page from the PDF. Also the thought of a hardass Princess of the Earth submitting herself to a mortal pirate and taking his seed in her dragon womb really gets me going.
>>98570106>submittingThat reads more like Ejava rode the pirate so hard he broke and spilled not only his seed but the beans about the other pirates as well.
>>98570139Probably. But I like the idea of the power dynamic reversal in private.
>>98570139The implication is that she fucked him in return for information.
>>98570348Doubtful. I mean, it's doubtful that it was a clear transaction like that. The pirate, unless he was an idiot, no doubt knew that he was going to be executed, and whike a dying man might make a trade for one last ride because why not, a man who powered through torture rather than betray his companions doesn't seem the sort to make that kind of deal. Fucking until the guy wasn't thinking straight and let something slip seems more likely.
>Dragon-Blooded women have the strength to suck you dry without even trying and the stamina to ride your dick for days on end without pause to the point you end up betraying the comrades you didn't give up under tortureOh no how terrible I really hope I don't get imprisoned and interrogated by female Realm officers haha oh nooooooooo
>>98570574>Oh no how terrible I really hope I don't get imprisoned and interrogated by female Realm officers haha oh noooooooooYou have to make it through being brought to the brink of death by torture a dozen times first before they whip out the sexual techniques. And perhaps also be a worthy rival who's defeated them in some way before.
Man, removing Desus was a bad ideaHe's a great and terrible Solar, somebody who was already an absolutely awful person even before the Great Curse. He's the epitome of why some people shouldn't have godlike power. They should have removed Lilith before they removed Desus.
>>98570574>>98570915Whoops, misclicked the post I do agree it's hot though
>>98570943But anon, he did the no-no-things.Can't have that in a play pretend game, lest you approve and want to do the no-no-things in real life too
>>98570943>somebody who was already an absolutely awful person even before the Great CurseWas he?
>>98571007Nobody is entirely sure
>>98570943They didn't want their game, especially the core splat of their game that gets hyped up as the big damn heroes used to draw people in, associated with wife-beating rapists and toxic relationships. I don't think the decision was motivated at all by how much or little Desus enriched the setting, I think it was entirely a PR move to make their players seem less autistic to third parties and people who might be attracted to the game. After all, every person who might have been interested and is turned off because a player talked about the glorious First Age and contextualised that player's vision of glory as rape and domestic abuse is a potential player they are no longer able to sell their product to. Desus copped it because he was the most talked about controversial figure, not because his acts were any worse than say Havesh or that one Solar who genocided everybody in what is now the White Sea.
>>98571083The real explanation is even lamer and pettier than that.
>>98571198what is it, because OP were pandering faggots?
>>98571205Worse, they're spineless and creatively bankrupt.
>>98564104You forgot Tepet Lisara. That bitch has no shame whatsoever, you just know she gave it up for Legion promotions.
>>98570943Havesh, too. He wasn't as big a name as Desus, but he was an interesting character.
>>98572175Did they just straight remove him or just not mention him in 3E materials?
>>98572191He hasn't been mentioned at all. I think the devs said that if they were to even bring him back they'd have to remove the fact that he kills and impersonates rich men, and then sleeps with their wives.
>>98572224I don't really mind removing Desus - I think he caused a tendency to focus on his flavor of personal-scale petty evil when talking about FA Solar bullshit, at the expense of the more systemic and large-scale problems that were more fundamental to the fall of that Age - but I'd be pissed if Havesh was brought into 3E with those things removed. I get that 3E writers are scared of skeevy sex stuff, and not completely unreasonably seeing that 2E at times went overboard with such stuff, but non-graphic mentions of rape - which what Havesh gets up to ultimately is - that is clearly identified as a bad thing done by a bad man shouldn't be forbidden content. There should be room for examples of Solars that don't handle their newfound power in a morally upstanding fashion, too.
>>98572271>I think he caused a tendency to focus on his flavor of personal-scale petty evil when talking about FA Solar bullshit, at the expense of the more systemic and large-scale problems that were more fundamental to the fall of that AgeYour complaint is futile, a million is a statistic and all that. Plus, even if they had made more emphasis on the wide-scale evil perpetrated by Solar rules (and Lunar ones I guess) the current brass would remove those things too the same way they did with Dark Sun.>I get that 3E writers are scared of skeevy sex stuff, and not completely unreasonably seeing that 2E at times went overboard with such stuff, but non-graphic mentions of rape - which what Havesh gets up to ultimately is - that is clearly identified as a bad thing done by a bad man shouldn't be forbidden content.Too bad, the clown-haired hippo women from HR and the soulless corporate meat puppets that kowtow to their every demand say it gives them the ick and is a no-no.

>>98572317I doubt OPP has HR. It's mostly just Rich and freelancers, isn't it? First Age Solars committing atrocities is still canon, as is current day Realm practicing slavery and all that, so I don't think there any desire to remove that stuff. It's specifically sex stuff, and I guess things that might hit too close to home for some people (like domestic abuse), that are on the line of fire, so to speak.
>>98572494>I doubt OPP has HR. It's mostly just Rich and freelancers, isn't it?Doesn't matter what they call themselves, the cancerous effect is the same.>It's specifically sex stuff, and I guess things that might hit too close to home for some people (like domestic abuse), that are on the line of fire, so to speak.Eat shit. Tired of hearing the same old bullshit excuses.
>>98572614I made literally no excuse for anything whatsoever. I just pointed out what kind of stuff current Exalted writers seem to be fine with and what they seem to be averse to. So you eat shit, or preferably learn to read.
>>98571816I was sticking to the iconics for each splat... Anyway Lisara is definitely a cowardly scummy evil woman so you know she digs having her anus stretched.

>>98572271Even if you're uncomfortable saying Harvesh slept with other people's wives, it's completely possible to say he's a dickhead.I think the most harm was done by Morke making the UCS some sort of christ like figure.
>>98573787>I think the most harm was done by Morke making the UCS some sort of christ like figure. To be fair, it makes sense the guy that embodies virtue would be Christ-like in many regards, and there's enough Christian mythology that it would be weird if there weren't some major parallels.IDK maybe some documentaries about Buddha would have given them some better ideas, but I straight up don't know what you are even talking about.
>>98573891Similar to the gameline itself, Conky's character is a patch work that doesn't make much sense when you think too hard about it; he is simultaneously, Jesus, old testament God, paradise lost lucifer, whitewashed Lucifer, Surya and Huitzilopochtli
>>98573891Not necessarily. For instance, turning the other cheek goes against Valor and is therefore not Virtuous, which would lead the embodiment of Virtue to not act very Christian. Whether the UCS was originally written as and whether he should be the guy who embodies virtue are two separate questions, of course. Personally, I think that the answer to both is no.
>>98574909Turning the other cheek could be a valid way to uphold his other Virtues though
>>98574945Sure, but it wouldn't work as a general teaching from an embodiment of Virtue whose Valor demands slights to be avenged. There's no problem if the UCS just isn't the embodiment of virtue, though.
As an Eclipse Solar, which charms do I need to talk-no-jutsu Dragon-Blooded women into fucking me, an Anathema.
>>98575161If you're looking for one charm that specifically seduces Anathema-hating Dragonblood, Twisted Words Technique in Linguistics is what you're looking for. It will have her love you as much as she hates Anathema, and even works on a fucky shadow intimacy system that's explicitly explained absolutely nowhere but strongly implies it's possible to give people invisible Intimacies that they don't see on their character sheet using influence that they don't get told about regardless of your normal Transparency rules.
