What aspects of the hobby make you see red every time?
What is the worst combination of mechanics you have had to play through?
Another Monday, another weekend gone by. What gaming have you gotten done recently?

I am one of the autists looking for high complexity, modular, big think, high skill ceiling, satsifying combo card games and I want to share 2 games made by the same publisher that share similar design philosophies but that have extremely different gameplays. I asked a number of times here but BGG hasn't recommended any one of them, so I am curious if anyone knows about them and if so, please share reviews. They are Doomtown: Weird West edition and 7th Sea: City of Five Sails. Both are competitive expandable card games that can be played multiplayer with official variants.

>What aspects of the hobby make you see red every time?
There was this one time I was explaining the rules and 3 minutes into it someone started playing a how to play vid off there phone without saying anything

>What is the worst combination of mechanics you have had to play through?
Ones that make turns go too long

>Another Monday, another weekend gone by. What gaming have you gotten done recently?
Played Portofino(fun, I didn't think it would go that fast), Obsession(it's not for me), and some smaller stuff
>>
>>98557578
in your opinion, is Sirlin's Codex a big think game, or is it merely a medium think game? it's ok to wait three to five business years to answer this question if you never heard of that game before
>>
>>98557578
If you liked the Doomtown TCG, you would probably also enjoy AEG's Legend of the Five Rings TCG (NOT the living card game put out by FFG im the 2010s).
It does not have as complex a battle system with poker hands, but there are still lots of moving pieces, considerations in constructing your two decks, and beautiful combos you can pop off of you chain actions right. Also 4 ways to win game which adds to your decklist considerations (several tournament level decks were capable of "pivoting" from their central win con to an alternative).

>What aspects of the hobby make you see red every time?
Excessive randomness. The heavier the game the lower the threshold. Challengers is fine because it's just some quick goofy fun, but I still haven't recovered from my last game of WotR where there was LITERALLY nothing I could do as Sauron against faggot hobbits moonwalking straight into Mordor.

>What is the worst combination of mechanics you have had to play through?
Plenty of Kickstarter trash I backed blind was simply irredeemable gameplay-wise. Not worth mentioning.

In terms of games that actually get talked about, Cosmic Frog was pretty putrid with its arduous setup, complicated scoring and combat rules, all in the service of a tedious and skill-free dice chucker.

But the worst of them all I'll not mention so as not to start another 100-post chain. Everyone knows what it is.

>I was explaining the rules and 3 minutes into it someone started playing a how to play vid
It must have been something you said.
>>
>>98559725
I'm usually pretty good at explaining rules imo. I think it was just a passive aggressive way of saying that they weren't really paying attention? Not sure. We watched the vid and then everyone had questions about the game after anyways. It was a very strange situation with randoms

>want to proxy/play online with all Blade Rondo sets, officially brought to english a few years ago already
>look online
>only decent scans are for Grim Garden and Night Theater
>base set is straight up a crude fan translation instead of the official english cards
>not the slightest hint of Frost Veil or Lost Dream, or Bread Rondo
>no scans of the artbook either

So i wanted to ask here if someone knew of somewhere the scans of the Legendary Set are posted, or hopefully know of someone willing to scan the contents of the Legendary Set, i'd greatly appreciate it.

hard no

Any games about managing whores? Only one I can think of is Night Flowers.
>>
>>98560473
I have the first box that I can scan if that helps.
>>
>>98560615
Yes that would be great, many thanks.
What does the first box have besides the base set?
>>
>>98560527
Nightshift.
>>
>>98560629
nvm u meant the first set lmao
yes pls
>>
>>98560527
That's too based for official releases, you'd have to look for some doujin work.

I have completely lost enthusiasm for new games, but I have an opportunity to get a few for free. What games from the past five years or so can renew my interest?

Without knowing your tastes in general and your fave board games from the 2005-2020 period, it is difficult to contribute.

Yeah, you are the sort of clientele Stationfall was designed for.
>>
>>98561353
Hanamikoji is about simping. Anon wants a game about pimping.
>>
Bg confession time.
I like Knizia. I like card duellers. I did not care for Blue moon, and I've tried enough times to be sure about that. Yes, we also played the same matchup until we were comfortable with both decks and could play competently. No idea what people see in it

I really like Sekigahara's gameplay but I felt the black player was objectively stronger in every regard, is there any game like it but better balanced?
>>
>>98562221
Sekigahara is absolutely fine but you could take a look at Granada: Last Stand of the Moors – 1482-1492.

Played Fromage for the first time after buying it on a whim from a recommendation from this thread. Enjoyed it so much that I'm fighting off the desire to buy Formaggio after just one play.
>>
>>98562461
Formaggio is almost the exact same game, but with Italian instead of French names and slightly different boards (except for the streets of Venice, which is notably different, but I don't think that's enough to justify a whole-ass 2nd purchase).
Formaggio isn't going anywhere, play more of Fromage before buying the same game twice, lol.
You've got:
>"hard" variant boards for each player count
>Structure tiles (each player draws 4, places 1 on their farm board, hand rest to next player, until everyone has 4)
>Solitaire mode
Enjoy product instead of getting excited for next product.

Don't listen to him
Getting both is a set collection game in itself

felt tempted to buy new games for a minute but I remembered no one I know actually wants to play them

Why would you ever play Diplomacy over Game of Thrones?

You wouldn't
