Pretty sure GW has said they’ll never port over xenos races to the HH ruleset, though I might be mixing things up with what this board posts. That said, given the shit going down over in 40k, I’m hoping we’ll see a transition back to HH-styled rules for at least a few factions. Seriously, T5/S5 marines as a baseline. Wtf is GW doing over there?
>>
>>98565210
Well that's very nice. I am glad you are having fun.
>>

Wait I might be remembering their policy on Admech models. They said those are solidly staying divided between 30k and 40k model lines.
>>
>>98565704
With a company that owns their own IP and can therefore act arbitrarily there's no such thing as "will never", only "do not currently intend to". Intent is all that is holding them back and intent can change. Specialist design studio made their own genestealers for necromunda.

elegoo 8k water washable, space grey, yup

>>
>>98565893
Has anybody ever spotted a hammerfal bunker out in the wild? Only seen that thing in GW promotion material.
>>
>>98565808
>Hammerfall Bunkers (but why?)

from the toys perspective because they don't really fit with Primaris or 40k and only have a few small birds to make them not fit with 30k, which is fine, small birds are keyrings in 30k

from the rules perspective because it's area denial you can plonk down 12" from the enemy deployment, even right next to his infiltrators or on top of an objective, and it can make Reactions

it's a shame they're BS2 like old Tarantulas and not BS4 like new Tarantulas, but for 150 and immunity from bolters they're reasonably strong - Skyfire doesn't limit you to shooting flyers this edition so you can reasonably expect the missile launcher to kill one marine or veteran each turn, they never suffer Statuses so can't be just taken out of play, and take either heavy weapons or reasonably specialist wargear to stop, and you can take them in ZM (though you will be deploying them essentially at the terrain stage) because who's gonna stop you? you? don't make me laugh
>>
>>98565914
Literally never. I tried to find a couple for cheap for use as actual terrain, but they weren't cheap enough to justify buying.
>>
Since Imperators are the TQ. Do any anons know if the Warmonger had its own 2nd edition epic datacard like pic related? or just 2nd ed rules generally (maybe in White Dwarf since it was only an upgrade kit)

I've got warmonger rules and importantly the list of missiles types it can sling for 1st edition and EA (also 3rd edition but in that it can only fire Vortex missiles) but not 2nd edition.

Necrons are a stretch for HH, or even just the Great Crusade era. Are there even any references to a Tomb World being opened during the crusade?

Greenskins and space elves make sense, though the latter would need some serious adjustments since the path system didn’t exist yet, nor the dark eldar in their current form after Vect came along.

Sounds like they only need to be convinced that it’d be profitable enough to be worth the effort. If it were just some free indexes, think it would garner enough attention to justify the man hours? Or it might just steal away their precious 40k customer base, who knows.
>>
>>98566047
Really for someone with decision making ability to personally get a boner for the idea for any reason. I think with specialist games "I really like it" is as much of a reason for why shit happens as making money.
>>
>>98566015
The oldest paths were already formed by the time the HH came around, and aspect warriors do show up in HH stories.
Dark Eldar would appear pretty much the exact same to outsides. It was only their social and political structure that was different at the time.

Nercons is inexcusable though.

>Necrons are a stretch for HH, or even just the Great Crusade era. Are there even any references to a Tomb World being opened during the crusade?
Even if they're not strictly canonical, having Necron rules might be useful for [Generic Alien Race] substitutes.
>>
>>98566072
>>98566015
multiple necron characters were active during the crusade or heresy
trazyn talks about having spoken to guilliman and szarekh met sanguinius
>>
>>98566015
>>98566072
>Necrons
While most of them were sleeping, there were a few ones who didn't (like Trazyn). And it's weird that the Imperium never stumbled upon a Tomb World during the GC. The Emperor had to know about them, but it must have been censored for some reason.
I've always understood the Xenos Deathlock and blades from Blackshields to be supposed to be necron weapons. They match their lore.
>>
>>98566093
But Necrons were not active in large numbers, neither roaming around with large armies. The Interex have more ground to get in game rules than Necrons.
>>
>>98566093
Yes, but we have no evidence of wartime conflict happening between humanity and necrons during this time period. >>98566084 might be the easiest way to go about it. Wouldn’t call them a generic alien race, they’re too specific for that. But slap a non-canonical label on a hypothetical ruleset and let people have fun with it. The only problem is that it wouldn’t really be HH at that point.

the green books do actually acknowledge this by making it so there are essentially awakening levels from bronze to gold and I'm pretty sure it recommends you to not go past silver for narrative reasons
>>
>>98566124
The Interex are a meme. They occupied a couple systems and were wiped out off screen just in time for Davin.
Necron Tomb Worlds were everywere in the galaxy.
>>98566156
Before a single warrior would be awakened, tons and tons of canopteks would have been thrown at invaders.
These robobugs are problably a better baseline for a 30k necron force. Probably only fluffy in ZM.

But I agree that If 30k gets xenos they must be unique and not 40k copy pastes.
Distinct orks. The Rangda and their friends. Zoats. Hrud. Totally new things. And while Eldar would be lore accurate, they're too similar to their 40k versions, i'd only add Corsairs.

>aspect warriors do show up in HH stories.
that's because those books were written 20 years ago

the last decade or so of fluff places Asurmen, the first Aspect Warrior, still living on his Chaos-infested world for years after the birth of Slaanesh, which is pretty much the start of the Great Crusade (where he becomes Eldar Batman on the Planet of the Rapes)

for the very late GC era I can see there being Dire Avengers and Howling Banshees (because those are the first shrines, but even Jain Zar starts out under Asurmen as a Dire Avenger before doing her own thing, and imagine running into that first squad of Asurmen, Jain Zar, Fuegan, Maugan Ra, Baharroth and Arhra)

it still won't make any sense because you have very prominent Phoenix Lords with stories that aren't really internally consistent, because they were intended to be semi-mythical figures for a tabletop wargame and not historical personages with novels about them

they're certainly around during later M31 because that's when Maugan Ra becomes the last survivor of his Craftworld (until he pulled it out of the warp 10000 years later) but whether they're in their present forms is up in the air, unless it isn't, fuck reading 50 novels for three lines of lore; also the Maugan Ra Craftworld thing in some tellings I think is now the genesis of the Dark Reapers, as in, the Craftworld being swallowed by the Eye of Terror is the reason they exist - but that event is explicitly post-Heresy according to current timelines

Arhra destroyed the first Shrine when he went traitor - or whatever he is - so the implication is that Deldar don't have Incubi at the time of the Fall either

what you want is Knight-sized Ork bosses

IMO GW should have stuck with the OG lore that Necron tomb worlds (or at least any that could reasonably be found by the imperium) only existed on the galactic fringes and that the limited active necrons purposely avoided being discovered leaving no survivors, teleporting away evidence etc. so that the imperium only confirmed their exist in M41 (when they really started awakening). Since it makes more sense than tomb worlds being all over the place and necrons interacting with major characters without the imperium easily discovering their tomb worlds and awakening them all since they iirc its still fluff that they weren't a notable force in the galaxy until M41

I guess its because they changed from horrific inscrutable beings to being space robot Dynasty (1981) and GW couldn't help themselves from including shit like them openly interacting with Primarchs
>>
>>98566047
A few people in Nottingham could probably astroturf it into reality. GW has a record of noticing things people do at warhammer world and responding to it with products, AoS skirmish was a response to people playing Hinterlands at warhammer world which in turn led to warcry. Several people repeatedly showing up and playing HH using well made fan rules legitimately might get noticed and result in a tentative response, followed by a larger response if that is received well.

I still say adding GC era xenos to the HH setting should start/be piloted in Ligma.

unlike heroic scale it would be feasible for GW to do it without sinking massive resources on a gamble (and without the lame shit of just releasing PDF and having people use 40k minis). They'd just have to release 1-5 kits for each faction and some rules for them (for orks and eldar its almost just changing weapon ranges from metric to imperial)

Fuck they could even get away with releasing a single boxset with 2 xenos arnies and 1 expansion book.
>>
>>98566409
They should not.

GC xenos/general xenos should get a book like demons of the ruinstorm or militia.
>>
Any tips for someone starting a Thousand Sons army? I really like Space Marine and wizards so I think they're perfect. I'm not gonna get Magnus cuz I'm not a fan of primarchs or named characters in general.
>>
>>98566421
Ligma is a terrible fucking idea that would totally undermine what the army(-ies) should be and what would be the easy way to do it.

You release a simple "boilerplate" codex with enough variance to allow people to stat their various conversions and 40k armies in HH, instead of needing to represent every single two bit xenos race encountered during the heresy and whatever else.
>>
Autocannons or missile launchers for Iron Havocs?
>>
>>98566409
>trial new idea in game nobody plays that uses a scale with no models
If your goal is to make absolutely certain nobody buys your product this is what you would do
>>
>>98566475
Autocannons, missile launchers overlap with tyrants
>>
>>98566480
They'd have to do a real deal orks/eldar release for ligma for it to have a chance and that would be kind of risky since nobody would buy models in that scale for use in 40k as they would with a 28mm release. It would definitely help sell ligma, but ligma is dead game so why put money into it?
>>
>>98565093
Yeah
>>
>>98566430
>Any tips for someone starting a Thousand Sons army?
Sure. Theyre good and you can do some cool things with their psychic powers, but the psychic powers are not "the game", theyre just spicy on the meat and potatoes of "guns and melee".
>>
>>98566436
To be honest it mostly sounds like people just want a ruleset that isn’t modern 40k. HH is apparently the next best thing.
>>
Can I say that I think the whole 30k is setting insanely dogshit BUT I would like it if it was a planet size epic/drama instead

How is nobody talking about the egregious journal power creep

>first journal: here's a near useless Consul who's main draw is the unlocked equipment we denied everyone else, a retinue squad of tactical marines, and a meme detachment and a mission we released for free on warcom
>newest journal: here's a bunch of characters that resolve literally every single issue custodes have (status recovery, losing on objectives, challenge locking), and just for shits and giggles basically completely ignore those allies restrictions we imposed on you less than 3 months ago so you can score objectives anyway despite that being your one weakness

If they wanted Hammerfall Bunkers to sell, they should have let them deep strike. You know, like they do in SM2?:
Hammerfall.
They should also let them be entered by same-faction Space Marines:
Bunker.

It was actually difficult to justify it doing anything BESIDES being a bunker that deep strikes, but you know GK! They just find a way!

Wait, it couldn't deep strike? And nothing could garrison it? That's fucking wild.

Technically speaking, there is no evidence of Alpharius' (now Omegon's) death at Eskrador either – the account's veracity is doubted by the Ultramarines themselves, whose own archives don't have it.
But their motto at the time was "Our presence remakes the past", so, who knows. I do hope that guy's proper dead; his legacy makes more sense from beyond the tomb.

Would be nice if that's what LGS were for. Lend people public forts.

Yeah, well, the trick with militia is to have safety in numbers. I did bring 4 blocks of 20 men, 2 blocks of 10 grenadiers, a full squad of ogryns with mauls and shields and enough tanks to pose a threat. The BA player had trouble deciding what threats to give attention to. Meanwhile having 40 S3 shots fired at BS4 due to Warrior Elite and that times four, will cause unsaved wounds that hurt them much more than it did me.

But when the elite Angels do reach my lines, the brave militiamen die in droves.

Same. Though I don't use the Aux vexillas. That ld bonus has done a lot of good to troops who run at the drop of a hat.

>>
>>98566430
Other than Librarians or other flavors of psychic characters like Esoterists, as well your unique units that are pretty cool, you can rock anything marines already can get within their army list just fine. Legions may have their own preferences but TS rocking superheavy tanks and artillery is as fair game as something like IW rocking Seekers.
>>
>>98569015
Big shame that Warrior Elite isn't conferred to vehicles, but at least the arty does get to benefit.

My most dangerous unit by far are the Field Artillery emplacements with Heavy Lascannons.

They fire three shots at RS10 AP2 with armourbane that do 4 damage per shot.
They are kind of a glass cannon on paper, true, but the fact they can Return Fire after being fired upon is kind of their safeguard. Any unit able to wipe 9 T4 wounds off the board is bound to recieve some killy shots in return.

The best counter to them are likely autocannon spam by a Legion Heavy Support squad.

Heck, in our yearly December Apocalypse match, this unit was about the only thing posing a threat to the enemy Warlord Titan present breaching void shields and taking 8 hull points of its head in one turn.

Are Shrapnel weapons even worth taking?

>The only problem is that it wouldn’t really be HH at that point.
This. I don't get why xenos players are so desperate to enshittify our system instead of playing older 40k editions if they hate modern 40k so much.
>>
>Join us later in the week as we learn more about the new rules for the Daemons of Tzeentch.
Were the chaos gods ever named in the black books or 2.0? I don't think so and part of the allure of ruinstorm daemons was the lack of knowledge of chaos in 30k. This is another step in the wrong direction, one of many.
>>
>>98569452
Adding flavour costs nothing and any company worth their salt would easily be able to add some supplementary rules with little effort.

Of course this is GW and marineshitters we're talking about, so it's unlikely to happen within the next six years.
>>
>>98569459
The people who fell to the Dark Gods were more likely to fall deeper the more they knew about them.
Your understanding of HH as a setting is fundamentally and deeply flawed, and even picking up the slightest bit of rulebook fluff would prove you so deeply wrong you'd be hesitant to even post online ever again.
>>
>>98569460
This isn't adding flavour, this is making a cake and adding a steak, sawdust, nails, and a bit of cinnamon to the recipe.
>>
>>98569468
Your insecurity is showing.
There's more than enough room. The problem is you take xenos presence as an encroachment on HH territory when it has a clear and obvious role. The trick is having a slimmed down ruleset and visually restyling them to differentiate them from the 40K variants.

Hard agree on Necrons though, leave them in 40K where they belong. Just Orks and Eldar, please.
>>
>>98569467
Can you post such abundant fluff that names the chaos gods in the books I mentioned before? Because the "YOU MUST NOT SPEAK THEIR NAMES" note smeared in blood from Malevolence comes to mind and neither the 1.0 nor the 2.0 army lists mentions their name.
>>
>>98569477
At my age I have no reason to be insecure about a wargame and it's such a weirdly placed phrase that I'm not even sure I'm speaking to an human anymore. If xenos mattered in the FW 30k fluff they would have had rules in the 14+ years of this game but they don't and FW never planned to add any.
Horus rebelled after the greatest ork empire was shattered and their race broken, same for the spessh elves, there are examples of the legions eradicating entire craftworlds to the point that their canonical effort in the war amounts to "eldrad tried to convince someone to stop, failed and walked away". They were a part of 30k waaaay back in the old adeptus titanicus(1988) days when epic was starting to become a thing and the fluff was still set in 30k but that part has been retconned for more than 20 years by now through the BL slop and the black books.
>>
>>98569520
Good, you know your shit and I appreciate that.

So can we surmise that the recent push to make xenos armies a thing in HH is shills on the take from GW to astroturf and manufacture consent?
>>
Could do with some funds, got a fairly hefty 4000-ish points IW army that's well painted. What could I realistically get for it in UK monies?
>>
>>98569539
Don't sell, you will always regret it and you won't make much money now.
>>
>>98569532
I don't think it's an effort by GW as much as there are genuine 40k players that just can't stand being abused anymore so they want to jump ship to the other sci-fi core game and now that you don't need to sell your organs to afford a complete army jumping in is the easiest it's ever been.
I know because I've seen this shuffling around since the start and at least in 1.0 xenos were fully compatible with 7th if on the weaker side due to the different balance between codexes and black books. Lately there has been an extreme amount of posts about xenos compared to usual which I'm guessing must be due to some rule changes in 40k or trolling.

In general the new players are jumping into a setting that they aren't familiar with so they hold on what they know as a jumping point(hh HSS unlike 40k Devs all pack the same gun, SA are more trained than guard, 30k marines are similar to eldar because tss also has mono special weapons, etc...) rather than enjoy the setting for what it is. This is because they aren't getting in 30k for 30k but because 40k isn't really enjoyable for them anymore but they don't want to give up the armies they poured their souls into.
Imo people either need to stick it to GW by digging their feet in and play older editions with their group and expand those with homebrew or just let go and start enjoying other things because there are so many settings that are out there getting strangled by GW's hold on "the hobby(tm)" and so many companies straight up dying in unheard numbers because people have become obsessively fixated on 40k that it might even have surpassed historicals in player numbers.

>>98569459
Ruinstorm Daemons reflects daemonic incursions and the overall nature of Chaos during the Heresy - the four were in ascension, but in the tumult of the warp at the time, they were not the Big Four, just four. Yet they always were the Big Four, and yet never were. Such is the nature of the realm of chaos. Regardless, the nature of daemonic incursions during the Heresy was one that reflected apparent tumult within the warp, where the powers were more in flux, being summoned by chaos worshippers who had less understanding of the warp than they do in M41 (and chief amongst those summoning the daemonic armies reflected by the Ruinstorm Daemon list were the Word Bearers, who view Chaos as an divided whole rather than seperate powers).

The exception is the Thousand Sons. The fiction has long established that they were being directly "assisted"/manipulated by Tzeentch himself, so during the fall of Prospero and into the Heresy, when the Thousand Sons summoned daemons, they summoned what are explicitly daemons of Tzeentch. This is extremely apparent during the Siege of Terra.

Ofc, the other gods will presumably also be receiving bespoke daemon lists at some point, which I assume will reflect stuff like the late Heresy (daemonic legions of Slaanesh following Fulgrim around, Nurgle daemons accompanying the SoT Death Guard who were basically 40k death guard when they reached Terra because of Typhon) and the even earlier Signus Prime campaign. I expect to see 40k plague marine models being advertised for use in HH when we inevitably start getting Siege of Terra supplements
>>
>>98570195
>Maybe anon meant local GW store?
I thought those moved away from having play tables and shit? Over here they did anyways. Its basically just the "Intro game" area and some painting tables and thats about it. Probably saves on the rent.

But sure, that one makes more sense. Theyre a store selling a specific product and the the game tables are essentially meant to be marketing for that product, they dont want someone coming in and being told about the wonders of warmachine or whatever.

>Some store managers even throw you out for talking about HH.
I call absolute bull. I talked with a manager about fantasy pre OW, let alone about HH (a game they support and sell).
>>
>>98570121
>plays at lgs
>more lgs things
>nobody would fuckin bother playing with you-
Sounds to me that the problem isn't older editions as much as having friends.
>>
>>98570203
But they were the big four. The ruinstorm demons list represents the unknown nature of chaos, it is an "imperial facing" list which breaks down the specific demons and forces we know into broad categories (often based on shared visual characteristics).

Its not "demon cavalry" because bloodcrushers and seekers arent a thing yet, its "demon cavalry" because the imperium (and even the forces of chaos, which arent really aware theyre the forces of chaos for the most part yet) dont know what the fuck bloodcrushers and seekers are yet.

The big four are there and the big four already, the imperium and the "framing" doesent know about them yet is all.
>>
>>98570203
I know but I feel like namedropping Tzeentch is kinda missing the point and another sign of 40k-fication imo. No one was under the impression tutelaries were bloodletters or anything but having GW spell out that the list is a tzeentch list, these is how the daemons were like and equipped with, this is how they are called, this how they look like, if you have seen one flamer you have seen them all because we didn't bother converting any to be different, etc... really takes the magic out of things.
>>
>>98570212
It probably depends on the store manager. Some are very draconian, and won't allow anything they do not sell in their store.
>>
>>98570266
People are probably describing events that happened prior to HH being carried by stores and assuming that they are still true now, when they aren't.
>>
>>98570325
Even back in like 2015/the 2010s people were discussing HH in stores (if not playing, but thats because HH was super expensive and inaccessible back then). The little store computer they had specifically had a FW section for a reason.

HH is a GW product, they have no reason to ban it or its discussion in stores. Theres simply no way. At best the "grain of truth" here is that one time one guy was told to stop it when discussing HH (likely in some way that WOULD have a manager tell him to stop, such as his favorite recaster or how its so much better than modern 40k which no one should play or something else of that sort).
>>
>>98570212
>I thought those moved away from having play tables and shit?
Same here except outside of stores with close ties with GW there aren't any lgs which still have tables for wargames.
>>
>>98570336
Right, but I know of a GW manager who threw out people trying to play 1.0.
>>
>>98570212
GW stores are mostly 1 man stores and their physical size varies. Some of them are so small they don't have practical play space, some have 3 6x4 tables. In the 2010s they did a program where they put stores in high foot traffic areas on purpose (yes this sounds obvious idk what the fuck they were doing before) and those stores tend to be physically larger.
>>
>>98570336
Right, but most GW stores barely have any HH products on the shelves. And store managers are judged, harshly, on how much sales they generate themselves. Meaning HH is extremely bad for their job security.
>>
It's nice owning a small game store. Get to convince people to play decent games, count making terrain as an expense, and tell pokemon fags to go away.

GW just announced that marines are getting bumped up to strength and toughness 5 as a baseline, with rapid fire bolters at S6 D2. I assume it’s partly to stretch out the toughness scale, but until other factions are updated to match, marines are very much unbalanced to play against.

They’re also squatting a bunch of older marine stuff, notably predators and other rhino-chassis vehicles, devastator squads, and classic castraferrum dreadnoughts.

>Aren't surpressors and the hammerfall bunker fairly recent kits though?
Yup. The latter I think everybody knows doesn’t sell worth a damn, as evidenced by GW attempting to shove it into 30k as well. The former though I’m a bit confused why GW never even attempted to sell those models. Sure they were kinda shitty, but I don’t think they ever even got their own sprue. Feels like GW didn’t even try with surpressors, as opposed to other primaris models like reivers. Even the hammerfall bunker had more effort pushed into marketing them.
>>

Big numbers betterer.
>>
>>98570797
It's the exact same shit they pulled in 9th edition, giving marines in 2 wounds while giving everyone 2 damage guns out the wazoo, they did it purely so you're not under the mistake of thinking you could use your old codex or not buy the hot new OP unit (before it's nerfed into dogshit). And so of course, in three years when 12th is coming around they're begging for a reset into indexes again to reset power creep. They're not even pretending this shit isn't purposeful and cyclical anymore.

If I understand correctly only "some" marines got it, theyre basically trying to add a meaningful mechanical difference between the 20 different sorts of aspect warrior marines they have now (some are fast, some are tough, etc).

The 11 books also seem much stronger than the 10e ones, apparently the ork codex is omega busted.

The only lore about 30k real skitarii we have is from black library, so it's the choice between two devils
>>
>>98571351
In 1.0 they are the personal army of the fabricator general that sometimes gets lent or sent to keep an eye on certain places although iirc some martian archmagi have their own skitarii security forces(protectors) in the old BL fluff which are differently equipped. Keep in mind 1.0's skitarii fluff is was released between epic's and HH sabertooth's sagitarii/hypaspists/etc and 40k skitarii which were meant to just represent an explorator list because GW really believed they could pull off releasing one list and set of minis per admech section.
>>
>>98571351
Skitarii did exist and were the common Mechanicum troops in 30k. Although they had local differences (to explain some of their more "feral" portrayals in early BL books before the minis were released)

But since GW doesn't want players to use the same minis in 30k and 40k, and Alan Bligh was a robotfag, the FW books added fanfiction about them being a minor thing linked to Mars. Basically the same that happened between the Imperial Army and Solar Auxilia: It was about selling FW resin over 40k plastic.

However some Black Books mention them, like in Inferno, where Skitarii with volkite chargers fought alongside the SW against the TS.

The 30k nuSkitarii are nonsense lore-wise, and the best way to see them is as Dark Mechanicum corrupted skitties
>>
>>98571120

>>
>>98571356
It's mostly due to wound/Hull point bloat, a 1D bolter makes a lot more sense when a marine has 1 wound and something like a Rhino/Land speeder has 3 HP

40k in-game skitarii are closer to the original versions except for their weapons. The actual "standard" skittie should wield a lasgun of some kind and use IG-style vehicles. Vanguards and Rangers are specialists.

30k in-game skitarii are either Titan bodyguards (again specialists), or the new "Battle-Pilgryms" shit that doesn't march any version of the lore and are again clearly specialists.
>>
>>98571601
It would also help if every game didn't insist on removing light vehicles in the AV11/10 range. Why are rhino's front av12?? Abominable

"No."
Stop LARPing as an oldfag when you've never read any of the books.
>>
>>98571843
The early skitarii in Know no Fear, Mechanicum, Priest of Mars, or Calgar's Fury were more feshy and feral. Like cyborg guardsmen. And they used IG style weapons like lasguns.

What books did you read?

Taghmata are the personal armies of Fabricators General. This is why you have Taghmata Satarael, but Skitarii Incaladion.
The Taghmata belongs to him, but the Skitarii belongs to the Mechanicum of that planet
>>

Yeah in 40k vehicles have like a dozen hull points. I think Rhinos have like double digits wounds there
It was cool when Rhinos were AV11 and IW were S+1 vs vehicles. It wasn't the best idea to try glance a Rhino from the front...but it was possible
>>98571677
Hmm but Rhinos are as armoured as Predators, right? So either Rhinos are AV12 front...or Predators are AV11? :O

>>98572071
>Hmm but Rhinos are as armoured as Predators, right?
Maybe back in 2e, where both were AV20/18 (Land Raider was AV22/20). You can have variable armour on the same chassis through various means from different armour compositions to additional layers (not including stuff like ERA, spaced armour, etc.)
>>
>>98572071
>>98572126
no, Rhinos have 12/11/10 and Predators 13/12/10 and Vindicators 13/13/10 currently

but even in prior editions the Rhino F was lower than the Pred and Vindi and other rhino-hull tanks
>>
>>98572155
It always has been gamey bs for the sake of the rules.
Just looking at a Rhino chassis tells us that the armour should be stronger at the sides, heh
>>
>>98572155
Rhinos and Predators look pretty similar. Vindicators do look heavier, even without the siege shield.
But those 40k AA Rhinos look surprisingly heavy for units that aren't direct assault tanks. It would make sense to use those chassis for Predators instead idk
>>
Does anyone happen to, by any chance, have small images (png ideally) of the force org icons?

They were mentioned a couple of threads(?) back, but how would you go about converting some HH appropriate possessed marines. Just use the 40k ones? Modify the gal vorbak?
>>
>>98572057
You are confusing generic fabricator generals and the main one and mechanicum and mechanicus, a taghmata is the personal army of A fabricator general, the skitarii are part of the private army of THE fabricator general.
>>
>>98572677
>the skitarii are part of the private army of THE fabricator general.
Which is FW fanfiction. There were plenty of non-Martian skitarii in HH and 40k books

>>
I dont know or care WHY it was done, but the omission of skiitari was bad for the health of mechanicum as a faction. Having the SA trooper tier (maybe slightly above, see the new stilt boys) dudes as their "bread and butter" line troops would make them a much more well rounded force. Less "we are nothing but big robots" and more "big slow robots for muscle and little squishy dudes that are faster for tactical play"
>>
>>98572515
I feel like the plastic possessed need a bit of work to look appropriate for 30k, but probably the best option if you don't just want gal vorbak. the armor on them seems to be mostly mk5 with some 4 mixed in, so that's fine, but chaos trim seems a bit excessive, if probably not too hard to shave off, and the helmets look too 40k nu-CSM. if you don't want to make your own fucked up corrupted helmets with 30k helmets and greenstuff, you could probably loot some from the 40k plague marines. some of their helmets get a bit wacky, but most of them seem like busted up 30k era helmets with tentacles and horns sticking out, so seems appropriate.
>>
>>98572702
again, as with the Eldar discussion upthread, the conceptual development of Mechanicum/Adeptus Mechanicus hadn't really happened when a lot of those works were written

you can't fault Graham McNeill for example for not fully creating the modern interpretations of Skitarii 20 years ago when he was writing Mechanicum and working from whatever random notes GW had on the then nonexistent Mechanicum/Adeptus Mechanicus toylines, and it's already a very detailed book with a lot of worldbuilding that fixes a lot of details the HH lore takes for granted, like the date of the Martian civil war, but a lot of it has never gone anywhere else, like the Kaban Machine, which Lukas Chrom literally has no reason not to mass-produce, but which is a terrible concept with a bad design; by all means prove me wrong by kitbashing it out of a Lord of Skulls and an Arkanaut Frigate or whatever, but it's never going to look good
>>
>>98572857
But I don't care about squishy troops, I want more robots.

From a rules design PoV, the Mechanicum army list is basically a Vampire army.
-Tough but expensive spellcasters (Magi)
-Ogre/Werewolf Bruisers (Castellax, Secutors)
-Fast Elite Troops (Thrallax)
-Zombies (Tech-Thralls)
It's not a perfect 1:1 thing, but it's a very useful paradigm. And in that paradigm, line infantry with muskets just don't work. Skitarii make a ton of sense in the lore, but not in the rules.

chaos trim is not a 40k exclusive thing
the helmets are more of an issue and is easily remedied
>>
>>98573131
It, in its current iteration, is closer to ogres. Is the issue.

Vampires "work" because they are very heavy on the zombies/"chaff". Tech thralls are not the structural spine of the army in the same way that zombies or skeletons are for VC. Theyre an extremely niche specialist unit most mech lists dont run. Gnoblars.

and THAT is why you need skitarii, you need those waves of cybernetic chaff there to give the army its proper form, rather than just being a monster mash list essentially.
>>
>>98573131
mech is more akin to nids but is colored by undead
hive tyrants (magi) provide synaptic (cortex) control to the carnifex (castellax) or tyrannofex (thanatar) meanwhile independent warriors (thallax) and lictors (ursurax) can secure far away objectives and mop up lone units
this army can either be played with hordes of termagants (thralls) or can simply be played as is with a bunch of high toughness, high wound monsters
>>
File: img_3206.jpg (467 KB, 1400x1050)
467 KB JPG
>>98573154
There are plenty of blood-knight-heavy vampire lists, just like there are plenty of Thallax-heavy Mechanicum lists. Tech-Thralls would probably see more play if they weren't completely outclassed by every other army's basic infantry in every way, and if they looked better, and if they weren't a pain to build and paint, but so it goes. Skitarii aren't chaff; they're basically Solar Auxilia or better.
>>
>>98573154
>>98573213
are thralls considered bad now?
I almost got evicted out of an event because I took a bunch of thralls with a couple of lacrymaerta magi with machinator arrays and shat out like 20 extra thralls a turn
>>
>>98573131
Wouldn't line infantry with guns or skitarii be more like skeletons or tombguard?
>>
>>98573236
Thralls are still excellent chaff for a magos to sit in and camp an objective with his comptroller, whilst shitting out ever more thralls. Or to be a road bump, or generally obnoxious and in the way. With high cool and rite of pure thought they basically never run or get a status effect.

Which means the online community considers thralls to be trash, because the only metric math hammering freaks understand is raw killing power

>>
>>98573387
That is not chaos trim. Those are Dark Angel marines, which are all highly honourable and most of all loyal members of the Imperium, without exception. That is Imperial trim.
>>
>>98573236
>are thralls considered bad now?
No. But theyre a niche unit that has never seen widespread use. The "tacticals" equivalent for mech are castellax and thallax (two units more elite than marines)
>>
>>98573213
>There are plenty of blood-knight-heavy vampire lists
And those still operate around a core of chaff. At BEST you have a core of black knights (very low tier cav) instead. You literally could not make a "blood knights only" list because BK were limited to at most 25% of your list.

>Skitarii aren't chaff; they're basically Solar Auxilia or better.
So chaff. Youre describing chaff. The basic unit in this game is the humble tactical marine, skittles and sa troopers are chaff.
>>
>>98573439
>niche unit
thralls were ubiquitous with mech in 1e due to their ability to purchase fearless and could tarpit primarch deathstars for multiple turns
they were rightfully nerfed in 2e and fell by the wayside due to their low innate leadership but could still get by with an attached character bc of stubborn
>>
>>98573236
>are thralls considered bad now?
It doesent matter if theyre actually bad or not. Theyre incredibly niche and most admech lists wont run them. Theyre not your basic core in the way tacticals are for SM, which is the issue when they should be.
>>
>>98573236
>shat out like 20 extra thralls a turn
Huh? Isn't that when you attach a 70pts Techpriest to the unit to get like 3 Thralls per turn, but the unit's Expendable gets cancelled by the Techpriest's presence?
So I guess Machinator Array lets the guy do cybertheurgy twice huh
>>
I didn't mind 20 Fearless Thralls in 1.0
If the enemy wanted to exterminate every single one of them, 20-man Legion Tacticals (and then Despoilers) were right there. It's risible to think the Legions don't have the right tool for the job. Marine players simply don't want to deviate from the Termie on Termie meta at all!
>>

>20-man Legion Tacticals (and then Despoilers) were right there
Not after a single shooting phase they weren't.

Mechanicum was never meant to be just robots, every faction like reductor (thallax), myrmidax, laecrymata (tech thralls), autokrator (vehicles and tech guard) were supposed to get their own lines, but bligh focused on filling out the cybernetica and died before the other ones could get their due. Remember the models we have access to are just the stuff found in the private armies if individual magi, which is why we didn't have things like skitarri yet
>>
>>98573509
sorry meant servo arms, you can only spawn thralls a single time per turn per thrall unit so an archmagos with the buffed battlesmith gets 5 for unit it's a part of
had 4 magi accompanied by their own idiots spawning between 5 and 3 each turn
>>
>>98573536
>Mechanicum was never meant to be just robots
Cool. It basically is though. Its big robots (castellax, domitar, thanatar) and small robots (castellax, which are for all intents and purposes small big robots)
>>
>>98573521
20 fearless thralls cost 2/3 as much as 10 tacticals
you could not shift 30 thralls with bolters from one tactical squad and you'd struggle the same in close combat since now you're giving them an armour save on top of the FNP

can't find it. They shill it a few times but for the rules are only tell you to look in Epic 40k magazine which printed the 1st edition compatible AT2 rules and the 3rd edition rules which I already have.

I did at least fine the rules for Abominatus that includes its own (badly photocopied) unique datacard and a list of all the existing GW bits Adrian Wood used to convert and that you could mail order an imperator plus the conversion bits for £35 (plus mentioning a full conversion guide in WD 194).

It also contains this description of the Hellstorm as a sedately slow firing rotary autocannon.
>>
>>98572515

If you have a deep bits box or know people with the STLs you could use bits from the old plastic multipart possessed marines or the old old CSM mutation sprue on a tactical squad of your choice.
>>
>>98572515
They can mix. I know some anons won't like the more modern shoulders or some trim being left on, but some of the models are very trim heavy and sticking a very blank MkVI or standard MkIV shoulder on didn't really look right, but it is probably my greatest regret aesthetically with this unit.

I shaved a moderate amount off of the 40k Possessed to get them to fit in a little better.

The Warmonger Titan (the dedicated long-range artillery variant of the Emperor-class Titan) was actually officially introduced by Games Workshop in the Titan Legions standalone boxed set expansion in late 1994, rather than in the pages of the Journal. Its early 3rd-edition rules and dedicated hobby support were later printed in Epic 40,000 Magazine Issue #1 and Issue #7

the chaos specific world breaker demon possessed titans had rules in Issue #9 – Bubonis, Daemonic Plague Titan of Nurgle (pp. 4–11); Issue #10 – "Skylok, Winged Titan of Tzeentch" (pp. 31–37): Rules and conversion ideas for a massive Lord of Change-themed Emperor Titan featuring giant wings ;Issue #13 – "Abominatus, Despoiler of Worlds" (pp. 41–44): Written by Adrian Wood. This provided official Citadel Journal rules for a terrifying, Khorne-worshipping Chaos Titan created by fusing a standard Imperator Titan hull with a Khorne Greater Brass Scorpion.
