Part of us doing these is to get the participating people involved and invested. Someone who can't even bother to come up with a name for their pilot, doesn't care. They just wanted to roll their dice in the moment, but they're taking up a slot that could otherwise go to someone who would care. Have anyone made a scan of this map pack?
Alright, I finally have time to post my batrep from the game I played this weekend! So I had told the boys that I wanted to try a 3025 game, and while they tried to abide by that, one of them didn't really factor in that some mechs had gone extinct by then and brought a Pillager. We were using the KoTH mode from instant action since that was easily convertible to a 3-player game.So this was a Davion vs. Pirates. vs Kurita (me) game:Davion:>Pillager (PLG-1N I think)>3 Normal Urbies>1 PPC Urbie (UM-R60R)Pirates:>Cyclops (CP -10-Q I think)>Warhammer (unk. model)>Griffin (GRF-1N)Kurita:>Panther (PNT-9R)>Grand Dragon (DRG-1G)>Commando (COM-2D)>Catapult (CLPT-K2)The objective (2-hex radius around the D20) was placed within one of the planet's many sinkholes. All 3 forces scrambled to begin contesting the area.(1/5)
>>98573746No scan but I've played a lot on it and I really like this set. It's just the right amount of buildings and cover, plus the lake is a total fuck point.
>>98572697>There's been people in the past that get so caught up in rolling for their mech they forget to make a character. Usually it prompts them to come up with someone. Then they should respond to give an update on their character. Until then, unnamed is no good.
>>98573769As fortune would have it, the Coordinator's warriors arrived first, beginning to accrue points with my Panther and Commando. The Davion Urbies weren't far behind, however, and soon 3 of them had hunkered down in the most well-protected portions of the sinkhole, protecting them from Pirate fire. The remaining Urbanmech split off to accompany the Davion Pillager in an attempt to stem the pirates' advance (which was remarkably slow, as they had proven overly-cautious in an effort to avoid the sinkholes) Kuritan firepower was brought to bear upon the Urbie trio, and one had soon fallen at the hands of the Commando pilot. The pirate Cyclops engaged the Pillager in a slugging match where they both knocked the other down. After this happened, the Cyclops attempted to pass by the downed Pillager in an attempt to reach the objective, only for the Davion mech to rise to its feet directly behind the Cyclops.(2/5)
>>98573798The Cyclops was crippled in the ensuing barrage and thus began its slow, fighting withdrawal. Meanwhile, the Pillager pressed on ahead, now engaging the pirate warhammer within its PPCs' minimal range. The Pirate Griffin attempted to come to its comrade's aid, but the pilot must have been a novice, as he forgot about the long-range nature of his mech. The Kuritan Catapult meanwhile flung whatever PPC shots it could into the melee, alternately trying to cripple the pirate mechs and strip the armor off the rear of the Pillager (to moderate success). The fight in the sinkhole meanwhile had begun to turn against the Dragon. Despite their lost comrade, the 2 Davion urbies hunkered down and weathered multiple turns of blistering fire from the Combine forces. The pilot of the Panther, headstrong and eager to finish the foe, engaged in a daring DFA attack, which failed despite his valor, and sent him careening to the sinkhole floor right next to the PPC urbie. A subsequent machine gun barrage damaged the Panther's gyro, and the pilot spent several turns atoning for his failure with pitiful point-blank SRM-4 shots from ground-level. I was not the only Kurita mech to suffer, as concentrated Davion fire tore first one, then both arms off of the Commando. Despite these grievous wounds, the light mech was still in the capture zone, and so toiled onwards with its remaining SRM-6. Most worryingly of all, the continued survival of both Urbies began make Davion overtake the Combine in point value thanks to a rare silver-lining to their abysmal movement range.
>>98572638And on that note I would like to put out a reminder that for the 2nd battle of my game, the following pilots need to be addressed or updated or else I'll write them out and let others take their place if they wish.>Janus Kotow>Obal Moriancumer>Bob Denard>Vladimir IgnatveyI'm not looking to start game 2 just yet. Definitely going to let our other anon get his game up and running and finish it first, but I'm still throwing out the call for these 4.
>>98573845Finally, the weight of Kuritan fire began to show, and both urbanmechs in the sinkhole suffered catastrophic ammo explosions in nearly the same turn. Sensing victory was within their grasp, the Kuritan heavies converged upon the objective, just as the Davion pillager and remaining Urbanmech, fresh off from crippling the pirate warhammer, began their own advance as well.Having personally killed the PPC Urbie with whom he had spent half the battle grappling, the Panther finally found the wherewithal to get back on its feet...(4/5)
>>98573860...Only to find itself facing down an alpha strike from the Pillager. The pilot chose to go down swinging, defiantly firing his SRM into the Davion monstrosity even as AC/20s tore into his central torso and obliterated the brave mechwarrior. He could die knowing his honor, stained by the failure of his DFA, was now intact. All three factions were now contesting the objective with every non-crippled mech they had, with even the remaining pirate Griffin giving a perfunctory effort. Thankfully, the remainder of the Kuritan lance held firm and recaptured the point lead in the very last turn, with the pillager being kicked over onto its face for good measure.(5/5)Dragon Status? HONORED.
>>98572440Praise Blake brotherThe Word will rise again!!!
>>98573896>Dragon Status? HONORED.Not by your pictures.>>98573845>fire tore first one, then both arms off of the Commando. As an avid Commando fan and user, I can safely say this; many such cases.Anyway, sounds like it was a crazy matchup. Hopefully the Davion player learned that the mememech is a joke for a reason.
>>98573928I swear the pictures were oriented right when I brought them up in photos on this computer. Guess I was in a haste to get them posted, sorry. But yeah the Pillager's lumbering rampage was definitely the star of the show both for how damn slow it is and for how monstrous it was when it finally got to shoot something. The funny thing is that thanks to its low mobility the urbies could actually keep pace with it pretty well. This was our first time trying objective-based games and games with a turn limit, and I'd say it was a pretty big success. We all agreed having a definite end was way better than the last-man-standing grindfests we'd been doing previously. That said, our 3-man group presents a bit of a conversion issue for a lot of the Instant Action scenarios. I'd like to have more 2-man games but I'd hate to leave the other guy out.

>>98574369Well last novel (Trial of Bloodright) literally points out that Alaric is borderline schizo, who constantly sees/hears Katty and Stone voices (but he fails to defeat even Stone-bot in simulator) who finally sniffs his own farts in the end about how great he is.
>>98574368Technically all the mechwarriors are point commanders too since each mech is a point. Only the most insecure dweebs actually use that rank on anything but the most formal of paperwork, but they all have that rank and are technically the lowest form of officer.

>>98574466You know what, that actually might end up being pretty fun. The IS clans getting absolutely dicked on. Diamond Shark/Sea Fox specifically being the ones to accidentally spread it around the IS before it reaches critical mass and people figuring it out and them becoming anathema to everyone much like Clan Wolverine. The Falcons and the Wolves collapsing into sick animals that get put down by the Wobbies. The Rasalhague Dominion having an *actual* existential crisis because a big chunk of their civilization just ups and fucking dies, but there is so many freeborns in the Dominion that they sort of just continue on without actual clanners. Which then gives rise to the disjointed fractured space where the wolves and falcons were. The dominion can't really push into it (although they try and take some worlds to make a meaty state on par with the DC) and the Lyrans struggle to do the same. Just how valuable is Germanium anyway? If you pulled out a suitcase full of jump-core grade Germanium, is that "here's a mech" or "that's a good start for a down payment on a mech"?
>>98575009I think its a "Welcome to this white room, lets have you answer some questions" because of its value in the jump-drives and a suitcase full of jump-core grade doesn't just appear.
>>98575023Melting down jump cores is lossless. You actually have to break them down into much smaller bits to transport them inside the K-F field of another jump core or else you risk having two broken jump cores. Or an event horizon.
>>98575009Do not think about commodity prices. Do not think about production rates. Do not think about GDP per capita.
>>98575009According to my bs googling, average medium size suitcase by volume in kg should be roughly 17-23kgs. We'll say 20kg.Germanium prices today at the source in China is $3100, so that times 20 is roughly $62k in (presumably) USD. A C-Bill in 1986 was apparently worth $5USD.$5 USD then is equal to $15.23 today.$15.23 divided by 5 gives 3.046 x $62k equals $188852 Cbill. So a nice chunk of change but certainly not enough to buy a mech, but the final figure does vary wildly depending on where you sell your Germanium in todays market. We used the Chinese source price, but 'boxed in warehouse' in Europe or USA is about $6300 per kg, which gives a upper limit figure of $383796 Cbills. I might have fucked my math somewhere so take it with a grain of salt.
>>985750622nd Edition Periphery Sourcebook says Germanium is 2000 C-Bills per ounce, Gold is 300 C-Bills per ounce, and Silver is between 5 and 10 C-Bills per ounce. If any of that alters the results.
>>98575088Nice. So 1kg = 35.274 ounces. 20 x 35.274 = 705.48 ounces 705.48 x 2000 = 1,410,960 Cbills. Better, but still not enough to buy a mech. Maybe a down payment though, better get some contracts Merc.
>>98575110That almost buys a Locust, anon
And yet jumpships use tens or hundreds of thousands of tons of germanium while costing "only" hundreds of millions of c-bills. Curious! It's almost as if the FASA corporation was not very carful with the setting's economics. If only there was a pithy compound word to describe that.

The Cakists as they would come to be known would establish such a deep seated trust with the quality of their cooking that they will be in a position where they are providing quality food across the Inner Sphere. This is when they choose to strike by adding a special ingredient to their cakes which when swallowed targets anyone who has signs of genetic modifications and aggressively breaks down their genomes sequences essentially dissolving them from the inside out. This in turn eliminates virtually most Clan trueborns causing a good chunk of their leadership to be eliminated and said Clans to be thrown into complete chaos which paves the way for the new Word of Cake to take over!
>>98574453I just want the Bears exterminated. At least wolves are villainous now, Bears are mind numbingly boring.
Something I've recently thought of: most of the Successor States have one or two iconic color schemes that show up in most art and make you instantly think of that house when you see them. Dracs have Sword of Light, Lyrans have Lyran Guard, FWL has Marik Militia and Free Worlds Guard, and Fedsuns have Davion Guard (and to somewhat lesser extent Crucis Lancers, which also show up pretty often to represent Fedsuns). But I can't really think of an iconic Capellan color scheme in the same way. Maybe Death Commandos? But they don't actually show up that often in art, except when Hanse is using his Battlemaster to beat them to death with their own severed arms. Possibly the Red Lancers, but I think most people think of Dracs upon seeing red mechs.
>>98576474Warrior House Hiritsu is the Capellan iconic unit.Side note, as of the 32nd century the Dawn Guards seem to be displacing the other options as the default Davion unit, being on the cover of the Core stuff and everything. I think it's because they're yellow, so the Davions finally have a posterboy unit that matches their map color.
>>98576490It's surprising it took until 3150s to get a Davion unit that actually uses their faction color (aside from one of the Crucis Lancers regiments, but they don't use it because it's associated with House Davion, but because all the regiments in the brigade have different highlight colors and one just happens to be yellow).Though come to think of it, Capellans are also kind of an exception, since they also don't really have prominent units that use normal green as a primary color. Warrior House Hiritsu uses metallic green, which isn't quite the same thing, while Death Commandos and Warrior House Imarra use green highlights. Also, whoever came up with the Dawn Guard color scheme was a sadist. Yellow and white, two of the worst colors to paints, AND done in a diagonally split halved color scheme? Just fucking kill me.
>>98575668There are 15 canon units with a PAC, only one of which is a protomech (the Minotaur 4). They're actually terrible proto weapons as they're still far too heavy.
>>98576531I've seen a lot of people simplifying it by just doing one limb in light grey and the rest of the mech in yellow.
>>98575677>heavy as shit>low damage that doesn’t hit any of the good breakpoints>poor range compared to standard ACs>can’t even use all the special ammoGenuinely what the fuck is the POINT in making PACs so bad? Letting them use precision wouldn’t have been game-changing anyway. Maybe the one Bane with 10 PACs would’ve been better at terrorizing light mechs but that’s hardly the worst offender for that job out there.
>>98576600Kind of battletech in nutshell
>>98576474You do raise a good point. Hell most people think of the Capellans using greens but they actually use a lot of reds. In fact pretty much every House outside of maybe one regiment tends to use colors wildly different than that associated with them i.e. Kurita using mostly blues greys and tans with only the Sword of Light using red.

>>98575511Same thing as before. TW is still used for vehicles. They're talking about adding more Driving Skill things, but no details yet.
How did it come to pass that they made the entire new set of "core" releases without actually finishing the real core rules (TW) it seems like a combination of being desperate to get money immediately and also being kind of incompetent.
>>98577306>without actually finishing the real core rules (TW)What are you talking about? > being kind of incompetentWelcome to battletech
>>98577206I'd consider ballistic-reinforced better than hardened armor. Hardened allows you to get double the amount of armor protection against nearly all attacks, but you have to spend twice as much tonnage as standard armor (HA basically has the same amount of armor per ton than standard armor, but effectively doubes the maximum tonnage you can use on armor), take a penalty running, and a penalty to all PSRs. BRA gives you twice as much protection against 2/3rd of ranged weapon types (missiles and ballistics), with the cost of needing to use slightly more tonnage to get the same amount of protection against energy weapons as standard armor (IIRC it's about 16 % heavier than standard armor) but with no other downsides.
>>98576172Some quirks should be available to structures, like a military command bunker with Battle Computer or a civilian broadcasting station with Improved Communications.

>>98577380Basically nothing, yeah. Skidding/sideslipping is what matters, hence why everyone sells it down and why they're talking about adding more functions to the skill. It's just an afterthought extension of Piloting Skill as it now stands.
>>98577345You also forget about hardened -2 to TAC and needing essentially 40pts of damage to trigger a PSR. Ballistic can only absorb 40pts if its ballistic or missile attacks. I kind of prefer the hardened a bit more provided you fully commit to making basically a mobile pillbox.

>>98575062You can't compare modern germanium prices to BT.IRL, germanium is a material used for niche industrial tasks, like nonstandard semiconductors. There's so much extraneous stuff for most players and a lot of mech stuff people want to make commonplace.I am a bit worried though that, whilst BSP Assets are neat, they seem to be heading in a direction that that's the main way to do combined arms, which suck.
>>98578415I think there's been chat from CGL that with the core book done and since they're also going to try losing money on Aerotech again, there's a rework of Total Warfare in the works (which they can divest the aerospace rules from) because they're not blind to its many, many problems, like being clogged up with planes and spaceships shit nobody uses instead of useful stuff that got shunted off to tacops and the like (hence why there was even the BMM to try and get the most used shit together for mechs at least). Like these Asset rules are not replacements but supplemental rules trying to cram in a bit of extra scope over the BMM. If they do that well or not... very much up for debate. But they're not here to re-write the whole other-than-mechs dynamic, just get it in there for basic play. Same thing with having some basic scenarios in the core book, not there to replace campaign packs or the like, just there to get them into the basic gameplay so people have something to go on as to what the game might look like other than mech team deathmatch. But holy shit if I were to get a new copy of Total Warfare these days I would rip that thing apart, take out all the segments that are fucking pointless, and stick the rest in a god damn ring binder.

I'm looking to do a unit of 1st Proserpina Hussars to complement some of my other Combine forces, but I'm torn on how to approach it. >>98579519Gloss if final, matte if you're just trying to make it a bit sturdier while putting more paint over it. Gloss varnish has real endurance, I dropped a glossed model onto a stone floor and it barely even chipped the corner that landed directly on it. Matte isn't particularly strong. It will hold up to some handling, but you shouldn't trust it for transport or situations where it might fall over or off a table.
>>98579538And if you don't want a glossy finish, you can put matte over the gloss. Gloss tends to be pretty thicc even if watered down, so you don't really want it as a middle layer.

Battletech aces tutorial thing is flat out retarded. It has units making multiple attacks, and applying damages that aren't even what the fucking cards say.In the AS rulebook, you roll ONE fucking set of 2d6 for the shooting attack of a unit, and if it hits you apply the damage value (but not resolve yet)The fucking aces tutorial is saying a unit rolls multiple attacks,... but then doesn't even jibe the hit or damages?Like, if the pheonix hawk is now rolling 2d6 for each of its Four potential damage, and getting a single hit... the fucking tutorial has it magically doing more than 1 damage... because fuck you thats why.Meanwhile in AS you roll 2d6. If it equals or beats the tn, the mech, in this case the penis hawk, does its four damage.Fucking aces seems to have some ass backwards half and half nonsense way of doing shit thats NOT in the alpha strike rules. ( but not resolve yetOR if you want to roll more dice>roll 7 lots of 2d6 and ONLY apply the dmg for each point of damage that hitsthe tutorial has you rolling say for the fucking archer, 5 attacks, of which three hit, and doing MORE than three damage. its a screwed up abomination of the two methods,

I need your opinion. I playtested a small first-contact type Clan Invasion scenario and the results were a bit mixed. The goal is to introduce player(s) to the Clans but to also not require much of their time. I wanted to keep it simple but also entice them with the first light roleplaying they might have done in a BT game.Summary:>Clan Jade Falcon vs Steiner. 3050>Location: Barcelona (any worlds near Periphery borders would do probably, could make one up)>2 mapsheets minimum>BV: 5K>MadCat Prime & Jenner IIC (both 3/4, Star Captain is Bloodnamed)>MAD-5D, CN9-D, WVR-6R, WLF-1A (all 4/5, Leutnant on Marauder)>Objective: Mech Bay capture. It consists of one impassable level-3 hex + all surrounding hexes as passable level-0 capture points. Whoever controls it at end of Turn 8 winsClan claims Inner Sphere Mech Bay for their own. Star Captain challenges the Leutnant to a Batchall.Should the Leutnant refuse the batchall, Star Captain is angered and attacks with no concern for honor. Clan attempts to destroy IS units first before capturing objective. How the game actually went down: "REFUSE YOUR WHAT?", Clanners get angry. Inner Sphere see they are staying away, so they decide to abandon their posts by the Mech Bay and give chase near edges of map. Several turns of duking it out ensues. At Turn 8, Jenner IIC sneakily runs all the way to the Mech Bay, hides behind it, and since IS has no reply the game is over and Clan wins. This felt very cheesy. Granted, IS did sally forth to the edge of the map because they wanted to surround Clan with their greater numbers, but they were both unable to finish the job and also left the objective unguarded. However, this still felt very cheesy to do. It feels like I won via technicality. What do you think is a better way of scoring for this kind of scenario where early invasion Clan wants to take an objective and clueless IS must defend it?
>>98581794Two things. 5k is 3025 stuff. You should bump it to 8k with this level of tech to reduce random crits swinging the match. Second, mobbing the clanners all at once and relying on armor is the only other real tactical choice that doesn't get you picked off sitting around your objective with their superior weapons. Actually, 3rd thing. Normal death match games end or fizzle about round 12. 8 is waaaaaay the fuck too early. Maybe round 10 if you're trying to force a quick resolution. On a personal note, I find it disgusting to see a 5D in a "we've never met clanners before" match, even if the CGL tards have retconned it to 3047 instead of 3052.
>>98581827>Bump it to 8kMy fear with this is that it means adding more units to the table, which means the game takes longer, which is the kind of thing I want to avoid because it's aimed at newer players (frankly, I'm a newish player myself and this is the first time I even play Clans). I was considering adding Elementals. How do you figure it should look like numbers wise between Clan and IS?>Mobbing the clanners all at onceSensible, IS needs to leverage their numbers advantage, but this leaves me wondering how you can differentiate this sort of match from a regular deathmatch. Because if I can just treat it like a deathmatch and at the very last turn put a unit in the objective, it feels a bit lame, no?>find it disgusting to see a 5D in a "we've never met clanners before"I'm sorry. Since I'm a noob, I'm only going by what I saw online and I didn't know this was retconned. I saw 3047 and figured "eh, fair game then". Also, I wanted to buff Inner Sphere forces a bit because I was afraid of it being a curbstomp. Lore-wise it's probably unlikely they would've had the fancy stuff that Marauder and Centurion had in a backwater world at that time, right?Anyway, the match was very fun regardless of my issues with the objective feeling cheesy. The Centurion got a lucky headshot with its LB10 and made the Clan Star Captain BIG MAD. She alpha striked her MadCat and had a shutdown from overheating and even then still lived lmoa.
>>98581860>>98581827Oh also>8 is waaaaaay the fuck too early. Maybe round 10 if you're trying to force a quick resolution.Noted. I guess we'll just try to play fasterWe're still at the "doing the math together for all attacks" stage because we don't trust that we're doing it right, so naturally this makes the game flow like molasses sometimes. Just need more experience.
>>98581860>>98581872Also BV-wise: should these two sides actually be matched? Or should attacker actually get more BV because they're attempting to seize the obj and IS have the defensive advantage? My initial thought is that since IS doesn't have emplacements, then BV should be matched. But I could be swung on this.We used front-loaded initiative (they moved 2, I moved 1, they moved 2, I moved 1)
>>985818608k will get you near a full clanner star depending on how you mix things up. Usually, people wind up with about 1.5 IS units with the IS units being heavier or having better mechwarriors than standard. General rule on IS Invasion upgrades is they got rolled out in bulk during the 1 year truce after Leo Showers got killed. Everything else is pretty much straight 3025 tech other than a few 4th War chassis like the Wolfhound. This is why the clans had such a curbstomp appearance. It's how like the War of 3039 no longer makes sense once they made almost all the Comstar special chassis available, running around, and even manufactured in 3025.I would move the weights and gunners up on stuff. This will feel more satisfying than having clanner lights fly around the map, and also land more hits, keeping the game faster. Maybe 2 IS heavies, one being a little fragile on some bits like an Ost. Have the IS commander actually be good and same for the Star Commander. Elementals will probably slow the game but can be included if you want to introduce BA as a unit type.
>>98581879There's no real defender advantage in this scenario because there is no cover. The IS has to be aggressive to get under the guns. The real way to win this is to kill the clanners, not hold the objective. This also gives clanners the extreme advantage if you give them Elementals, because without infernos, they're going to take a lot of killing and waste a lot of time if you can get them to the hold point.
>>98581882>with the IS units being heavier or having better mechwarriors than standardI actually considered giving IS an assault mech, but I was like "this seems like a very small-scale affair, why would they have an Assault protecting a Mech-Bay out in the boonies?" but maybe that's naive of me?>Everything else is pretty much straight 3025 tech other than a few 4th War chassisDamn, ok. I definitely had a heavy hand in giving my IS player the fun new toys. Though he really enjoyed using the Streak SRMs, Pulse Lasers, and Artemis IV. Was fun seeing the look on his face when he realized Clans had no minimum range on their LRMs.>Have the IS commander actually be good and same for the Star CommanderDoes this mean... 2/3 ?>>98581897This makes sense. I could also modify the map for them to actually have cover. I did not give much thought to the mapsheets picked nor did I modify the terrain beforehand. I just placed the MechBay in a patch of flat terrain near the center. So for IS it's a deathmatch, and Clanners are incentivized to just do the cheesy thing I did? Is there any fixing that?
>>98581901(oh and also the ER PPcs with no minimum range and dual-mode LB10X)
>>98581901>Is there any fixing that?Heavier units will be slower, and better gunners can focus units down. That makes a timed thing with travel a little more about the movement balanced with the fight instead of just being able to jump into the objective last second.Choosing non-ideal units can also make it fun. Having a Banshee 3E with a 2/3 for your assault where they can pretend to duel against the clan head honcho until it becomes a kung fu fight is a neat trick you could pull as IS. There's plenty of ways to mix it up and force your players to learn how to play different. You know the ancient saying "You get good at Battletech by playing bad mechs."If you want to show off the new tech, you can always just move the scenario a couple years, too. After the Truce of Tukayyid, the clanners had to move sideways into all those shitheap Near Periphery worlds still guarded by partly 3025 and some upgraded mechs.
>>98581943>Banshee 3E with a 2/3I might do that actually, that's a very good bit. I happen to love punching people with the Banshee already in Introtech, they always underestimate it. I did tell my friend about this ploy that the IS employed of accepting batchalls and then violating the autistic honor rules at the most pivotal moment>If you want to show off the new tech, you can always just move the scenario a couple yearsOf course. I just wanted early Clan Invasion specifically as an intro to the clans, but I overestimated the availability of these upgrades from Helm Core and whatnot. I had the suspicion, but I admit I really wanted them to get to use new stuff.I've also never used pilots that are 2/3. Only 3/4 or 4/5. So that'll be interesting as well. Though I feel sad knowing that as you move up to 2/3 and have pulse lasers (or even targetting computers later on) light units will become more and more irrelevant. But that's the way she goes I guess.
>>98581970Just remember, there are OG 3025 Aces with negative pilot and gunnery scores. The top of the line has always been unfair and scary.
>>98581794Beyond what was said IS was retarded and could have kept a wolfhound close enough to run back to contest or defend objective. However objectives could be changed, clans have their clan honor so could give them incentives to strike and disincentives to just hang back taking pot shots. The clan response to having a batchall refused should have been an immediate attack, and when players refuse to act in a lore accurate manner you can use objectives to manipulate them, for example.>IS gains 1 VP for each turn holding or contesting the objective>Clan gains 2 VPs for each turn holding the objective or 1 VP for each turn contesting the VP>Clan gains 1 VP for each IS mech killed, 2 VPs if all damage to the slain mech was done by a single mech (zell in practice if not technically issued as zell so you don't need to bog them down with challenges and bidding away weapons)>IS gains 1 VP for each clan mech killed, after which the wreck is treated like an objective worth 2 VPs at the end of the game>If one side is wiped the other side automatically winsIn its most basic sense if IS controls the objective for five turns and the clan for three it's a clan win, so clan needs to actually capture the objective in a semi-timely manner or draw the IS away from it, otherwise after turn 6 clan has to pretty much wipe out the IS to win. Likewise clan benefits from being aggressive, two zellbrigen kills counters the IS camping on the objective uncontested for half the game.I'd also say the mix of mechs is kind of weird, an assault omnimech and a single light mech is a weird formation that heavily incentivizes Mad Cat doing all the killing while Jenner objective snipes. I'd probably go for something more like >3/4 Nova B>4/4 Viper C>3/4 Kitfox PrimeMuch less of an eggs in one basket approach, have some clear speed brackets, and even the fastest mech can put out a good bit of damage. Overall though it depends on what mechs you have.
>>98582009>Madcat>Assault>Not heavyIt may fight like an IS assault with a crazy engine but...
>>98581985Jesuschrist, I had no idea they couuld go negative.>>98582009I mean yeah agreed IS could have prevented the cheese, but I guess they were seeing red and wanted the MadCat dead at all costs. And the Wolfhound was in fact chasing the Jenner IIC aroundI like your VP ideas. Will give these a spinI will fully admit my inspiration behind giving Clan side a MadCat and a JennerIIC was because my intro to battletech was playing MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries. In that videogame, the first myster clanmechs the player encounters are a MadCat and a Jenner IIC, if memory serves right. So I wanted my friend to have a similar experience to what I had in the viddygaem. But yeah the Timby actually almost ate shit with a lucky headshot.
>>98582024I'll be honest that's on me being retarded. Forgot a madcat's weight, did a very brief check on megamek since it was already open and saw 90 tons, not realizing that that was the Madcat II. Still 75 tons and 35 tons is a huge gap in weight between the only two mechs that incentivizes madcat doing the real killing while jenner objective snipes.
>>98582043You're a hundred percent right and why I said the clanners needed to up their weights and guns and/or slow the fuck down.
>>98582009>>98582037Also to your point about Clan immediately attacking after batchall refusal: Don't they want to stay at range? I figured charging into close range would be very stupid. My idea with the MadCat was keeping my distance at use my better range brackets to my advantage, cover, use terrain to prevent them from surrounding me, etc. I also figured this could entice them to leave the Mechbay (which is exactly what happened) which meant the Jenner IIC could sneak behind and get some juicy backstabs + make a run at the obj (which is what happened)Should the MadCat just run in and beeline to the Mechbay and not give a shit?
>>98582050No dude, you played it right for the scenario. The issue is your Jenner IIC and your players. You need to adjust things to affect the win conditions.
>>98582060Of course, I understand. Was just wondering flavor-wise what would have been appropriate (I don't want to be a WAAC-fag, which is why I wanted the light role-playing to feature in the scenario)
>>98582077On that note—what is Clan supposed to do if for example the Star Captain dies? Would the Jenner pilot go out in a blaze of glory? Run away? Completely up to the roleplayer?Pretty certain the Jenner pilot dying would've pissed off the Star Captain bigly, since she's bloodnamed. Not so sure about the other guy.
>>98582083Gain some glory and fight for a promotion. Clanners game their own systems, too.
>>98582050>Don't they want to stay at range? I figured charging into close range would be very stupid. Yes, but clanners are stupid, especially when their honour is insulted.>I challenge you to a batchall>I accept I bid my lance of battlemechs>Very well and I bid three mechs, half a star of Clan Jade Falcon>Fight honorable duels at longish range>I challenge you to a batchall>Challenge me to what?>You didn't follow my script! REEEEEEEE!>Clanners proceed to rush in to kill the dezgra spheroids>My idea with the MadCat was keeping my distance at use my better range brackets to my advantage, cover, use terrain to prevent them from surrounding me, etc. I also figured this could entice them to leave the Mechbay (which is exactly what happened) which meant the Jenner IIC could sneak behind and get some juicy backstabs + make a run at the obj (which is what happened)Not saying your strategy was unsound, but (especially if you were running the scenario for a new player) it's often best to lean towards enjoyment over what will get you the pragmatic win. Clanners being aggressive, perhaps even honing in on the enemy commander for his insult is more fun for the new guy than either hunkering down until the game ends or closing in and getting objective sniped.>Should the MadCat just run in and beeline to the Mechbay and not give a shit?It should go in to try and get kills as efficiently as possible. I'm thinking of it more from a lore perspective, he issues a challenge and the IS commander essentially said "fuck off retard" so while the objective is still the goal, fuck the commander and fuck his spheroid buddies, I'll kill them myself.
>>98582087you make very good points and I will try to incorporate this "Clanners are stupid" doctrine into my future games. thanks anon
>>98582131Clanners are a mix of stupid and brilliant. This is why Jade Falcons are the best clan. They're the clannest clan, the proper mix of everything that makes a clan a clan. Every other just focuses on a particular piece instead of the whole.
>>98582161Jade Falcons are just batshit fucking insane. I feel if you gave their warriors cocaine it would actually calm them down.
>>98582219Depends on the era, but you better not mention fucking KAKAROT!
Funny little thing - at anime con, one group 3D printed ~50cm Battlemechs models. Pretty cool.

>>98582376
>>98582050You can adjust the conditions of capture as well. Depending on how many mechs are fielded, say the player must occupy X capture points for Y turns. For snatched and grab, make the objective heavy enough so that a light mech can't lift it, etc.
>>98582506Mean it has the autism for it?
On the topic of clan intro scenarios one I've always wanted to run is>Lance v Lance IS battle (say 5k bv each)>Players let to believe it's a conventional battle>Turn 3 or so a star of clanners show up (say 8k bv total) and begin attacking both sides>IS get new objectives to fend off the clanners, any original objectives have their value heavily decreasedI think it would be fun, spend a couple turns fighting each other in a normal battle before the clanners show up and are heavily pushed to work together and maybe have to share victory than be wiped out.
>>98583700>Kill Clanners>Ok now back to killing each other rather than share winThe True Ending
>>98583700That legit is a scenario with Phelan Kell in the merc combat manual.
>>98583858I mean I know that was a canon event with Kell and Ryan's kid, didn't know there was an official scenario with rules for it.
>>98583858>>98583884Except the pirates didn't team up with the Hounds to drive off the Clanners?
>>98583884It is alpha shite but probably could jury rig your own CBT scenario out of it.>>98583924They do in this version.
>>98582506The MechWarrior games make it look more South American, what with all the jungles, which I guess makes sense because of the Jaguars. Also, what's the deal with that? As I understand it, all the Clan totem animals are genetically engineered Earth creatures except for the Ice Hellion, which is a dinosaur-like alien. So, was Huntress terraformed into a jungle planet and stocked with wildlife in a ridiculously short time span, or did the SLDF just genetically engineered a horribly dangerous introduced species to drop into an alien ecosystem for funsies?
>>98584092>They do in this version.Lame
>>98584119>was Huntress terraformed into a jungle planet and stocked with wildlife in a ridiculously short time span,Yes. That's how magical SLDF terraforming works. You either dump a lot of almost earth stuff on something or spend hundreds of years fighting the local wildlife to be able to live unmolested.
>>98582131Karensky only left the clans with a single braincell to share between them and clan wolf stole it.
>>98584119Burrocs, Star Adders, and Sea Foxes at least have native totem animals as well. Jade Falcons, Fire Mandrills, Hell's Horses, and Smoke Jaguars, and Diamond Sharks all use genetically engineered Earth animals as their totems, with Wolves (as well a Mongooses and Wolverines) just have normal Earth animals. Blood Spirit totem is the power of friendship.Of the rest of the Clans, some of them might also have native animals, but I don't remember. Ghost Bears are probably native to Pentagon Worlds since they're six-limbed creatures that vaguely resemble a bear, rather than just Earth bears but big and funky colored.
>>98584119>So, was Huntress terraformed into a jungle planet and stocked with wildlife in a ridiculously short time span,They terraformed already habitable planets.
>>98584222I could've sworn I read somewhere that sea foxes are actually genetically engineered otters.
>>98584269They're specifically mentioned as being aquatic reptiles that just bear a cursory resemblance to mammals.
>>98584092Eh, not quite what I had in mind, but still neat. I was thinking they'd actually be fighting each other until the clans show up.
>>98584280Ah.Honestly, my headcanon is that most if not all the "alien" wildlife in BattleTech is just the result of forgotten independent colony projects from the early FTL era. How likely is it that something from another planet with a completely different evolutionary history would resemble categories of Earth life like "reptiles" or "mammals" at all, anyway? I mean, if life evolved on a planet with a similar environment to Earth it would probably be carbon-based, but everything after that is the result of a very specific chain of events that might not happen elsewhere. Would the prokaryote/eukaryote split happen inevitably in any carbon-based ecology? Would the Oxygen Catastrophe? Would every Earth-like planet have enough sources of calcium to make evolving bones economically viable?
>>98584412Counterpoint: the species we see are a handful of what would be billions of them out there due to the number of worlds. While Earth's evolutionary history has some specific factors in the order it played out, at the same time, stuff like a skeleton is generally useful enough that other worlds could have evolved the same solution independently. Like how Carcinization happens. And also that of what we do know, a good chunk of them we only really have the external appearance of rather than any of the internals. That shit could be way weirder. They could evolve a skeleton, but its structure could also not be one that contains Stem Cells or processes blood like ours do, with those handled by a unique organ while the skeleton does something else.
Any updates from the anons running games in the thread?Have we found the missing anons for the academy game?Did the Marian cat girl raid fill?
>>98584412All solar systems are formed from supernova remnants, the raw elements will probably have a similar distribution everywhere. Basic organic chemicals are found all over, as far as we know the amino acids used by earth life naturally form in comets and asteroids. Vents on Encedeladus spew out liquid water and organic molecules into orbit.Unless you get life with 'wrong sided' amino acids like Turians in Mass Effect there is every reason to expect alien life on Earth like planets to be fundamentally biochemically compatible. But there is no reason to expect evolution to closely follow what happened here, the Cambrian explosion led to lots of new body plans, many no longer exist.
How have you served the Free Worlds League today?
>>98584412We've found precisely zero other life-bearing planets, so we don't know.
>>98584121Some would. This guy probably would. Unless you were from the Combine.
>>98582161Jade Falcon are and have always been Clan Vegeta, and all that that implies.
>>98584528Honestly the best summation of them.
>>98584222You know, it's weird that diamond sharks are descended from Earth life and sea foxes aren't. Given that dolphins and icthyosaurs convergently evolved to resemble sharks millions of years apart, it's much more likely that an alien sea creature would look like one, too than a fuzzy mammal.
>>98584555Diamond Sharks are a deliberate bioweapon designed for a specific purpose. Unlike a lot of the artificial totem animals that were designed to spice up a safari or settle a late night drunk craving.
What color would you paint the mechs' joints, actuator, panels and stuffs with, if you decided to go with steel or gunmetal for your main color scheme? Don't think bright silver/aluminium gonna look that much different.
>>98584607Dull grey. Dark grey if the body is bright, bright grey if the body is dark.
>>98584579That's the backstory for them, sure. I'm just saying, statistically it's more likely that an alien planet with lots of water would have lifeforms resembling sharks than anything else from Earth since so many species here with very different physiology have evolved into a similar form. It's clearly an ideal body plan for a carnivorous, aquatic vertebrate.

>>98584990They're tsundere with the FWL: they prefer it to the Capellans, but the FWL has been abusive in the past, so Andurien is stuck wanting independence from toxic FWL but isn't strong enough to keep the Capellans off their worlds alone.
>>98584990The Andurien and the FrogAn Andurien, being a poor swimmer, asked a Frog to carry him across a river on his back."How do I know you won't sting me?" asked the Frog."Because," replied the Andurien, "if I sting you while you're swimming, I shall die too, for I cannot swim."The Frog thought this over and decided it made sense. So he agreed, and the Andurien climbed onto his back. Together they set off across the river.Halfway across, the Frog felt a sharp pain in his back, and a numbing poison began to spread through his body."You fool!" croaked the Frog. "Now we shall both die! Why did you sting me?""Lol," said the Andurien, "lmao"Some natures cannot change, no matter what reason demands.
>>98585087They simply need to do what the Taurians did when they came calling: engage in mass terror attacks and make use of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons attacks to make sure any gains made off their backs are entirely phyrric and come at the abominable cost of millions of lives.
>>98585269It's also not really true, their most defining moment is deciding "you know what, we can invade and take over the Capellans with a bit of help from the Canopians." and then they split off and did that until the FWLM stepped in and slapped them on the wrist for invading without permission. They are currently invading the Capellans again in Ilclan, this time with no help and no one around to slap them for it.

And this animation (whlie it is cool) draws heavily from the MechWarrior style instead of the one in my head (how dare they)Here's one I likehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsbqGKyoMsE
>>98585389Instant classic. I really hope whoever makes the next BattleTech vidya takes note.
>>98585389I don't think Mechwarrior alone caused the impression. I think the speed of a game of Classic typically takes people is also a big factor.Like, even if you are running through the turns fast, you are still going to be a hell of a lot slower than a turn of combat would take "canonically" because if I recall right, each turn is merely 10 seconds (I know A Time of War uses 5 second turns and for that explicitly says Heat Sinks are only half as effective compared to the wargame due to the shorter period of time).A four hour match IRL could very easily in-universe only be 2 minutes long, but the former is what you experience so it all feels longer.
>>98585389This is fucking incredible.
>>98585451I would find that very weird. I am not a fast BT player (even though I aspire to be), but I am very aware that turns are short 10 second bursts. Rolled 3, 4, 4, 1, 2, 6, 5, 1 = 26 (8d6)>>98586540Well now hold on a gosh darn minute there son! If you're just going to make up a bunch, I'll roll a Marian so that I can play both sides. I'll even come up with some lore for the pilot.A woman who was genetically modified into a catgirl against her will and forced to work in Canopus. She was taken prisoner in a Marian slave raid. While a slave in the Marian Hegemony, she found that she was actually treated better than she was in the Magistracy of Canopus. She was allowed to pilot an industrial mech for some work and found to have a knack for it. A Marian noble took a liking to her and the 2 fell in love and were wed. Her husband was a Mechwarrior that died in combat against the MoC, but his mech was salvaged and she became the inheritor for it. From slave girl to Mechwarrior. Now she regularly goes on Marian Hegemony raids to free those she believes have worse lives in the MoC than they would in the MH and also to get some payback against the MoC Mechwarriors who took her husband from her.Kat "Constantine" White
*blocks your path*Whatchu gon gon do lil davion boi?
>>98586987Alright, so 7(3+4) for weight makes it a medium mech. The 5 (4+1), means that it's a Hunchback, HBK-4P.The 8 (6+2) makes her a regular with the 3/6 stats (5 for gunnery roll, 1 for piloting).Eyy, so look at that. Why not include her in place of 1 of those other 3 randos in Marian land? Your call which one, maybe even roll to determine which one if you like.

And somehow... the setting prefers them to the Wobbies because, its convenient to CGL's Wolf fanfics?
If the writers didn't want the Blakists to be beloved then they wouldn't have written the Dark Age the way they did.
>>98587982That's what makes them funny. Understandable base-level goals, absolute fucking shitshow of an execution. Then throw in some of the Amaris effect where people in-universe have a very justified cultural aversion that they are very bad at explaining individually because nobody actually understands the default position well enough to defend it coherently, and trolling as a Neo-Blakist is probably a huge hobby on the HPGnet.>>98588019The Clans didn't open hostilities by nuking House capitals and escalate from there. Simple as.
>>98588019Sure, but the fact of the matter is the Word is so hated that no one will willing use Celestials, and having cybernetics can get you lynched in some parts of the Sphere. Maybe it's because Clannerscum didn't delete entire worlds or use superweapons, maybe it's because they stink of Scientology, but the Word crossed some obscure lines.>>98588036Oh they are funny. Sucks that they and by extension Comstar are tainted by association with the Jihad and the Dark Age.
>>98588033The only reason you love them is because you're a psychopathic accelerationist who doesn't care what happens to people as long as the society you hate falls to pieces.
>>98588049That one's mostly on ClickyTech. The Jihad was already going to happen, but the CT time jump established the death of the Word, that the God-Emper-uh Delvin Stone had done it, and that everyone was so fucked up by the Jihad that he managed to shove through a mass reduction in military size across the Sphere. CGL was working from a known end point, and getting to it was a bit fucky. The Secret Files are essentially an attempt to patch it up post-mortem, and paints it as the WoB severely overreacted to the death of the Second Star League, set off everyone's 2nd Succession War trauma hard enough to get a united front built against them, and chose death over whatever surrender would cost them. For everything the screeching snowflake is losing his mind over, the Nazi comparison is surprisingly apt in how badly they mismanaged their position and made it everyone else's problem.
>>98588064
>>98588033The Dark Age was written first, during the clickytech era, and the Jihad was written later to fill in the blanks. A lot of the dumb stuff that happens during the Jihad happens because it had already been established in the Dark Age lore. The problem is that since everybody hates the Stoners, it makes Blakists seem better because we know that them losing is what led to the shittiest part of the timeline. Plus, they wanted to genocide the Clans, which everybody who has ever had to endure the bullshit that is cLPL spam agrees is a noble and worthy goal.
>>98588033You literally cannot write a faction that won't get fans.
>>98588064I love them because Blakes sacred order protected the Inner Sphere for 300 years after the Clanners abandoned Terra to go be furfags in nazi suits and now you want to dissolve the star league to protest us after all we've done? I'm writing a (Alpha Strike) scenario for my friends, and it'll be about the fall of Terra - they'll be playing as the RAF and I'll keep throwing at them a soup of whatever the fuck Clan mechs I have, the list of RAF mechs is:Malice XV (Hastati Sentinels colors)Malice XV (Princeps Guards colors)Malice XV (Standing Guard colors)Malice RISC x1 (Hastati Sentinels colors)Hauptmann OD x1 (Standing Guard colors)Ares Poseidon x1 (Hastati Sentinels colors)Lament 2R x1 (Hastati Sentinels colors)Viking 2F x1 (Standing Guard colors) Any anons wanna try to give names and roll for skill levels? (since it's alpha strike I'd kindly request only a single d4 roll - these are Terran mechwarriors, they aren't green, they aren't going to be any skill level lower than 4!)
>>98572400i still don't get why they forced the Big MAC into being mercenaries again, it's really dumb
>>98588994>these are Terran mechwarriors, they aren't green,Under the Fortress, it was the total opposite. Fortress saved like 3 regiments of actual mechs, and when they dropped the Wall to attack with 25 nearly 15 years later, it was pretty much all unblooded kids. The RAF was like the old Comguard before Tukayyid, pretty much just green with fancy toys. Vets were the rare paladins and the Remnant outside the Wall.
>>98584990They were once fanatically pro-Free Worlds. That's the funny thing about Andurien: it was Catherine Humphreys who sold the people of the duchy on the idea of secession after unnamed soldiers killed her aunt and put her in power, and the whole thing has obviously been about giving herself and her children more power. Andurien was safe and protected within the League, and until then House Humphreys held a place of esteem in Free Worlds history and Andurien's troops held dignified reputations. But Catherine and her descendants have all wanted power whether it hare-lips everyone on Andurien or not. So they seceded over being told not to invade the Capellans, and then turned around and allied with the Capellans.
>>98588999It was a blessing, really. Daoshen putting his incest-baby in charge of them and fucking over the actual McCarrons was never going to change. They would cease to be the MAC if they didn't leave.
>>98588019The Word was too much like the SLDF.People think they wanted the Star League back, but when they actually got an military that rolled like the SLDF they changed their minds pretty damn quick.
>>98588964Krillin!!!
>>98589041So we know WoB survived the Jihad and got away with a load of troops, cyborgs and warships. And then Dark Age introduced a load of Blakist remnant groups and neo-Blakists. Did anything ever come of them or did the writers forget about the Soldiers of Apollyon, Broadsword Brotherhood, the White Hand, and the Kittery Resistance?
>>98589096Buhl's boys were the only real significant ones, and they killed them in a random RAF XTRO before backfilling with a turning point. They didn't even bother to write the fall of Tukayyid to the Sharts or Comstar headquarters falling when Callison fell to the wolves. Basically, the current people can't be asked to write C*/Wobbies unless it's Herb on Halloween when you can summon him when the veil is thin for some Ghosts of Obeedah.
>>98589114I will forever be sad that Cincinati didn't go up in a Blakist nuclear suicide bomb when the Woofs came in.

>>98589096There's supposed to be a resurgence of cultists and weirdo space religions of all sorts in the hinterlands, including neoblakists (and One Star, Cult of St Cameron, etc) but it isn't really expanded on yet and might only be used for small mission hook type plots.
>>98589143>Terran proveb>provebI can see what Stoner occupation has done to Terrans
>>98589133I'm sad too. It would have been a net improvement for ohio.
>>98589149The RoTS occupation has been a neverending humiliation ritual.Well, until it ended anyway. Now it's a neverending Clanner humiliation ritual.
>>98588064Yes. And if we nuke Wolves, Davions and Goons by the hundreds in the process it's a complete plus. Praise Blake and pass the ammunition.>>98589096Again, all we got was Ghosts of Obeedah, that confirmed that the Manei Domini survived with a rump ghost fleet of Warships and after the Blackout they fucked in the Deep Periphery to rebuild with automata, non-sentient AI and cyborg hookers. I do not doubt they will be forgotten or misused by the writers.Killing off Comstar was an incredibly retarded move on CGL's part (just check the new manual, with the 3152 jump they are barely even named anymore) because let's be honest cutting off one of the few factions with both a somewhat different playstyle (combined arms and base six) and "cultural differences" (toaster worshipping) in exchange for More Clans.... at this point keep Buhl as an ally for some Corpse Lord that doesn't want to take Clan cock every day. But nooo, that would be Not Writing Clans Every Day.
>>98589163it kind of doesn't even make sense that the sea foxes would be able to fill in for a group maintaining operations on 2000+ worlds. it's beyond the scope of anything they've ever done.
Anyone have any fun Quickdraw variants? Mostly looking for introtech or Clan Invasion era gear due to new players, but anything is welcome!
>>98589168But they're Clan! And they have"fox" in the name! How cool is that? Don't you love more Clans?
>>98589019Yeah but I want my boys to have some fun and not get run down - they are fighting Clanners, skill 3 warriors at the minimum - the players will LOSE and will DIE to the last man, I want them to be capable of illuding themselves of being able to win
>>98589163CGL gooning to clanners is so enraging.Never let Blake die in your heart.

>>98589207insha'Blake it's our duty to carry his light within us
>>98589168They can't do the logistics, the banking, or anything at that scale, really. But, then if we weren't sucking their dick, a single flight of Picaroons could have wrecked the merchant warships blockading everything during the Regulan War.Boy, that would have been sweet, MAD of the Regulan and Sea Fox merchant and war fleets instead of the one-sided retard stomp we got.
>>98589041About the only people who actually know what the true Star League were like were the Periphery and most still hold grudges to this day. Even the Clans with their twisted romanticised vision would be horrified if they were transported back in time and got to see the Star League at its peak.
>>98589156>It would have been a net improvement for ohio. But then how would I get spaghetti slathered in chili and cheese instead of tomato sauce?
>>98589388DEZGRA!
>>985891755A and 5K/5K2Surprisingly fun backstabbers when fighting slower opponents. 5K's are massively oversinked so they might be a bit more new player friendly as in they won't have to worry about heat. Only problem with the Quickdraws though is that they severely lack armor especially in this era so the moment they get focused they'll get torn to shreds.
>>985895905k2 is my go to quickdraw if I have to have one, they are really good in vidya tho.
>>985891758k is fun, no-one likes an MRM30 in the back.
>>98588019>Where they Genocide planets for rebellionsAs opposed to Wobblies who genocide planets as an opening salvo.I hate both clanners and Wobblies, the former because their culture is abhorrent, the latter because they can never be trusted not to destroy civilization. With clanners though, I at least know where I stand. Both of these groups are fanatics obsessed with the realization of their vision, but one of them has rules and limits. A Blakist, meanwhile, will commit any violation, carry out any atrocity, so long as it furthers the cause. I can never trust a group like that or be at ease anywhere within their general area. They were mad dogs that needed to be put down.Despite this I actually quite like Comstar and its a shame that they got watered down and then taken out.
>>98589802>but one of them has rules and limits. At least the Word weren't self dealing hypocrits, in that they didn't have an honor system to pay lip service to and then drop the minute it actually got in the way of what they wanted. The Word was what the Word was.
>>98589937Not holding any pretenses of moral standards doesn't make the WoB any better, it just makes them a more naked evil.
>>98590055Killing clanners is always correct
>>98590055Considering clanners ultimately won and subjugated the inner sphere WoB did nothing wrong. Maybe the Second Star League should have continued killing clanners until the Inner Sphere was cleansed of clanners and the Homeworlds were cleansed of all life.

Everything the Word did was peanuts compared to the First Succession War.
>>98590204They had a huge chance too. The Jade Falcons and Wolves were bled white. The only strong clan left in the Occupation Zones were the Ghost Bears, and they'd gone Warden.Inner Sphere could have killed two more clans and liberated scores of worlds.
>>98590338Everything anyone did was peanuts compared to the 1st.
>>98590557Yeah, so that means the wobbies are no worse than the great houses. They should also get century or 2 of nuking shit before they decide it isn't worth it anymore.
>>98590591They had ComStar's centuries of watching everyone else nuking shit, and STILL decided to go through with it. That takes a special kind of stupid.
>>98590601Bruh, you act like no one saw the unification wars. Everyone knew what they were doing. But how convenient is it to paint your present enemies as uniquely evil for doing what you did in the past.Get bent. If you didn't want to get nuked you shouldn't have killed the Second Star League and finished of the clanners.
>>98590607Exactly: in the past. Against all odds, the Inner Sphere managed to (mostly) re-establish the nuclear taboo, a principle even the Clans (mostly) abide by. The Word knowingly and willfully broke it, against everyone at once, and you're surprised that everyone ganged up on them and blame them when the Blakists were too full of their own shit to know they'd gone too far and chose to get themselves wiped out before owning up to it.
>>98590607Are you seriously suggesting that emulating Amos fucking Forlough is justifiable precedent?
>>98590274>I-It was onpy because of the WOB that we fell, not like Combine lost three wars in a row against the Ghost Bears and Lyrans got assraped by Falcons half a century after the Jihad which is no time to recoverThe moment the clans repudiated the Great Refusal the IS should have gone full Combine on the clans killing every warrior and sterilizing every civilian. Instead the Second Star League did literally nothing.
>>98590729Man, it's almost like SOMEBODY should have focused on the Clans instead of going nuclear over the Space UN being useless again.
SLDf defecting to Amaris during the Civil War: possible? plausible?
>>98590772SLDF members from Periphery populations maybe. Like maybe the few German-Americans who left to join Nazi Germany before the US got definitively committed against them. That might make sense.
>>98590772Implausible for entire units
>>98590299Tbf when the Great Houses did that it was generally for the purposes of asset denial (which doesn't excuse how freely they exterminatus'd entire worlds but it is still a valid strategic reason for doing it)When Clanners do it however it is generally just a genuine chimpout (unless they're JF under Malvina in which case it's for terrifying the remaining enemy/populace into submission)
Hey I forget, didn't the Fronc Reaches end up making an in-house battlemech design?
>>98590137Tell that to the billions of unaffiliated Sphereoids they butchered for shock value and non-clan worlds they sterilized because their "Third Transfer" prophecy turned out to be just schizo nonsense like everyone with a brain knew it was.>>98590735Pretty much this.
>>98590888>exterminatus'd
>>98590892Nothing original, possibly aside from an unspecified JL Raider design. They domestically manufacture the aforementioned Raider, primitive Toros, and a handful of Introtech mechs, most notably Colonial Tractors went from Hetzers to Hunchbacks. Their signature 'Mechs, the Marshal and Anubis, are imported from Detroit, and when that got handed over from Canopus to Liao was a big part of the impetus to get domestic production going.
>>98590892>>98590899They DO have an original battle armor design, the TinStar. The normal version is standard stuff with a David Gauss and a support PPC, but this is a downgrade from the original model, which used a Magshot and Clan-grade armor. The Sea Foxes wanted a sovereign enclave in return for selling a regular supply of the armor, and that was rejected. The Holt's Hiltoppers bring in a trickle from their contracts outside of Fronc space, and most of the A-grade suits are either in their service or the Fronc presidential protection detail.
>>98590909>They DO have an original battle armor design, the TinStar.>original>Clan-grade armor.
>>98590951Somebody did a fucky-wucky in OTP: Fronc Reaches, and RGi had to fix it. They're manufactured by a Hilltoppers subsidiary, so perhaps they had enough bits and pieces to cobble together the prototypes OTP:FR does claim them to be.
