I made some creative casual decks that do fairly well in my friend pod, but on Arena they lose pretty badly. Our pod meta has situational removals. Arena removal is so oppressive and you see the same cards over and over, even in non-standard formats.Even going back to my friend pod, now I can't shake the feeling my decks are ass, even though they're fun and do win in our meta. I guess I'm reconciling with either building a legitimately better and more competitive deck, or learning to enjoy casual jank more.

>>98622851Yes and no. Dual lands are arguably the most powerful non-basics of all time (bar artifact lands from Mirrodin and now the indestructible ones). But at the time duals were printed, there were no other lands to support multicolor play, no way to retrieve them from the deck (Untamed Wilds is Legends, Rampant Growth is Mirage). Duals were discontinued, and every future version was tuned down in some way - painlands, taplands, bouncelands, etc. Things always got crazier when you could play multiple multicolor nonbasics in a format, but where it really went off the rails was Onslaught fetches (Mirage ones came in tapped). And of course once you could play fetches + duals the consistency was simply unparalleled.I remember WOTC made a big deal out of gold/multicolor cards coming back in Invasion. I recall reading a magazine article (remember those?) about how "we do a thing every 10 sets", pointing out that there were no gold cards printed in Exodus and the entire Saga / Masques blocks. 2+ years of sets where multicolor decks got nothing. In a situation where single-color decks had a much easier, more consistent time, color hosers (and ways of escaping them) were essential for playing, building, and design. The more support multicolor decks got, the less sense color hosers made. (They're also "unfun" to play against when you're not prepared for them, and WOTC has been sanding off those edges for decades now.)
