why didn't the solars just go to therapy?
Don't you EVER take this long to make a thread again. Without schizo posting about this game I have literally nothing left. Why are the social rules for this game so much fucking better then any game I've played before, even those with direct mind control. It's so odd.
>>98622078Why didn't you make the thread? Anyone can do it.>Why are the social rules for this game so much fucking better then any game I've played before, even those with direct mind control. It's so odd. Most games don't really give much thought to social mechanics. Exalted does. Having to pay attention and care about what the people you're trying to convince of something think and feel is probably the biggest thing in favor of 3E's social rules.
>>98622108>Most games don't really give much thought to social mechanics. Exalted does. Having to pay attention and care about what the people you're trying to convince of something think and feel is probably the biggest thing in favor of 3E's social rules.This. The usual retort of "just RP it out bro" is a massive cope.
Speaking of social systems I have a question. Do you still get the bonus from Intimacies if you say something a character agrees with but you're not aware of that Intimacy?
>>98622248I think so. I'd rule so when running the game, definitely. The key point is having an argument that resonates with the target if the influence. I don't think whether you arrive at that argument accidentally, through careful calculation or just by saying what you, yourself, genuinely think and feel, shouldn't matter.
>>98621055Starting with a group this week. Wish me luck.
>>98622379Good luck, anon! Are you playing or running?
>>98622387And more importantly, do you have a spot open?

How would you integrate Alchemicals in Creation proper?
>>98623278In the best scenario, where Auto's cancer is cured/in remission and Viator is dealt with, Alchemicals in Creation would be diplomats or traders, or combat specced Alchemicals who are on loan to various nations as part of deals or treaties. There would be limited access to Autochthonia, gates scattered across Creation in easily defensible areas. There'd probably be a good amount of trade, and possibly migration.
>>98622062the twilights/zeniths/eclipses were the therapists
>>98623372Metropoli In Creation sounds like a metal name for a game.
>>98623372If 3e remembered how to actually have fun, they'd implement something like that as an optional rule for playing Alchemicals in Creation instead of that halfassed pussy shit in the actual Alchemicals book where they're like>Well it's hard and you won't have your support infrastructure (which you do need) but you can try...
>>98622062traditional talk therapy is only really effective on women, simply talking about their problems makes them feel better, not effective on men or particularly self driven women. I wouldn't imagine a first age solar would find it effective.
>>98622062First, I should point out that it's being tried on a large scale for the first time in the Age of Sorrows by the Cult of the Illuminated.I can think of at least four reasons it wouldn't have been in the First Age off the top of my head:>it hadn't been invented in Creation early on and everybody who needed help was already stuck in their ways by the time the idea rolled around, if it ever did>they could come up with the idea of rehab and therapy, but if people go into rehab without coming off the needle then it's not going to work>justified paranoia and distrust of their fellow Exalted and everybody around them in generalBiggest one last:>social charmsTherapy is, in the context of the Exalted, indistinguishable from brainwashing via natural (or in some cases unnatural) mental influence. You're essentially giving someone full and free access to batter down your Willpower and talk you into a more 'reasonable' point, where there is no absolute measure of reasonableness beyond what the therapist thinks is right. Even if the therapists aren't using social charms, the existence of them contextualizes therapy as manipulative instead of healing or therapeutic.
>>98624411Yeah, therapy wouldn't have done shit to stop Queen K'tula from turning herself into a tentacle monster by snorting Kimbery Charms and making an octopus species to take over the world. When you're calculated enough to plan all that out just to avoid talking about your insane husband locked up in the undersea basement, you're way too far gone to be saved.
Would a Spirit Slayer concept work for a Twilight Solar?
>>98625701Is that reference to some specific thing I don't know about or do you just mean someone who slay spirits? If the latter, sure, why not, it could fit a lot of different splats and Castes, Twilight Solars included.
>>98623278you could have some emergency protocols where Auto sends out his chosen across creation and the Wyld to collect components to repair his ass.
>>98623278Secret Jadeborn conspiracy to get out of their geas by innovating their own celestial Exalted who can override the commands of other Exalted post-Usurpation when the Shogunate and eventually Realm basically tried to conscript their entire nation as a replacement economy. Throw in a couple dashes of First Age Solar project, uncovered Autocthonian lore, and dreams of the extinction engine for flavor. Mountain Folk cities have vats. Alchemicals pretty much immediately broke chains after BTFO'ing the Shogunate/Realm and started doing whatever the fuck they wanted between their human souls not really empathising well with the jadeborn and the awful conditions underground, and thanks to the geas on the Mountain Folk which they can exploit they don't have to obey the will of the masses to get their charms like Autocthonian Alchemicals, they can just order them to be built and installed. Alchemicals aboveground are Anathema, enemies of the noble Dragonblooded rising from ruinous factories-bunkers built in the First Age buried beneath the earth.
Is it bad that I just use pseudo-Slavic naming conventions for Autochtonian characters and call it a day?
>>98625701the reccomended concept archetypes used for twilight solars include shamans, so go for it.
>>98625701Yes, Zeniths have exorcist stuff has a caste ability, but they lack it in their caste abilities unless you favor occult.
>To rape Mnemon and turn her into a sex slaveEpic enough motivation?
>>98627220For a Solar? Sure, you'll be in good company with Havesh.
>>98627233>Havesh>From not!India.>Power fantasy is to be a serial rapist, while scamming people pretending to not be who he is.The funniest part is that he was written before India reputation went south.
>>98622108lmao but i'm shy.
>>98627593How can you be too shy to make a thread on an anonymous board but not too shy to bitch about other people not making the thread sooner?
>>98627623The questions the universe compells us to ask. Also I'm worried I'd fuck up the op and that people would laugh at me.You know the therapy thing for Solars is ironically something I want to do to the Yozi. I get that redeeming them isn't really possible in the canon but the idea is so cool. You have something bigger then you, you make it your friend. It's very charming.
The real issue with therapy and being in a position of power is that rich people probably aren't their for therapy but instead to brag that it's something they're going through to be more relatable. Therapy can very helpful if you can accept what someone else is saying. You just have to consider the person an authority figure even if they have no power over ya. Someone you should listen to.
>>98626592Unless your players complain they can't remember NPC names then whatever naming system works

>>98628524There's some descriptions I recall where the iconic anima does stuff, like a tiger anima striking alongside the daiklave strikes, so yeah it's great stunt fodder
>>98628524No. The anima banner is an expression of your own character, and cannot be controlled. There are charms that allow you to impersonate spirits, though.

>>98628621It's a pretty solid way to identify other ExaltedDepending on the Exalted, you could have a good shot of identifying their past incarnation as well (Both Panther and Swan share similar Anima banners with their FA incarnations, though that is lore originating from DotFA)
>>98628656Wood exalted is basically Ejava.
>>98628656>>98628628Curious about these two since they're martial arts practitioners but they don't seem to be immaculates.
>>98628621>>98628658That's basically the point. You're iconic anima banner is unique to you and visible for miles. When it flares you have identified yourself to everyone, friend or foe, all the way out to the horizon. It's both a rallying point for your allies and challenge to enemies.
>>98622078Exalted's social system is garbage. Any influence is negated for 1 WP and you have to jump through a dozen fucking hoops to do anything.Give me Ex2's any day of the week.
>>98622406I'm also starting a game this week.I mean, it's full, but we have a chair in the corner you can watch in.
Hey, ExWoDanon and or ExWoDfag, which ever you prefer. A friend sent me the PDF of your campaign a while ago but it's unfinished, the version I have is updated to the 18th of Feburary 2025, do you have a more recent upload? If not, and that was the last session, do you have an epilogue?Currently it ends on:>"Uhm. No? You guys are going to let go, and then I'm going to get flung, splat on the wall Tom and Jerry style. I don't even remember the last time I saw a bench press."Thank you for your time in advance.
>>98628923I like both.

If I were to create a Twilight Caste scavenger lord, what abilities and merits should I lean towards getting?
>>98628923Literally all you have to do to make 3e's social influence better than 2e's is make threshold successes take more willpower to resist in decision points. It's funny because that's the exact lesson they learned to implement when they went from 2e to 2.5e, 3e was actually a reversion.
>>98629598They could also just remove intimacies.Ex2's social influence was quick and to the point. Ex3's takes an eternity.
>>98629522Lore, Occult, Investigation, Bureaucracy, AwarenessFollowers, Contacts, Backing, Resources
>>98629522>AbilitiesBureaucracy to run a crew and the logistic aspects of scavenging, Linguistics to decipher ancient texts and maps, Larceny to deal with the shadier side of scavenging, Lore to know all about history and local geography, Occult for obvious reasons. And some social stuff to >MeritsBacking or Influence (your choice), Command to have bodyguards or Retainer to have a very good one, Contacts to know where to dig and such things, Eidetic Memory if you have any spare dots, Followers to help you with your digs, Language because see Linguistics, Mentor if you have spare dots burning a hole in your pocket, Resources for bribes and the like.
>>98629608>>98629613Interesting that you mention followers and command, respectively. I had assumed that a Scavenger Lord was the kind of guy to delve into the ancient ruins alone. Can you recommend any good inspiration for a scavenger lord? I can only think of Lara Croft and Indiana Jones.
>>98629602>Ex2's social influence was quick and to the point2e's social actions were slow as all hell anon wtf are you talking about
>>98629522>If I were to create a Twilight Caste scavenger lord, what abilities and merits should I lean towards getting? It depends on what your methods are as a scavenger lord. There's all sorts of different types who go exploring ruins. You'll probably want Contacts or Backing to be in contact with people who find the ruins and have people to sell to, but you might also want to do Lore, Survival, and Investigation and track them down yourself. You might be Indiana Jones type explorer who uses Investigation, Awareness, and a solid set of Dodge and Athletics ratings to blitz through a ruin once you've found it, or you might be the archaelogy dig taskmaster whose most used abilities are Bureaucracy, War, and Socialize, or you might be the kind who specialises in making their way through the known tombs that nobody's been able to crack, in which case you might want Investigation and Occult to find an angle, or even social skills like Presence and Socialize to gather the right crew for your heist.
>>98629657>I had assumed that a Scavenger Lord was the kind of guy to delve into the ancient ruins alone. That's the fast track to getting ganked and some other guy claiming your loot.
>>98629686Makes a lot of sense. I was thinking of leaning more into the intellectual strengths of the Twilight caste with some Athletics, Awareness, and Resistance to supplement it.>>98629691Are there many Exalted Scavenger Lords capable of ganking a Solar outright?
>>98629691>That's the fast track to getting ganked and some other guy claiming your loot. No, that kind of Scavenger Lord is the type who ganks the more cautious scavenger lords and makes off with all their loot. A build indistinguishable from an assassin's is entirely suitable for a scavenger lord who's willing to steal a scoop after someone else has done all the hard work.>>98629657>Can you recommend any good inspiration for a scavenger lord?Heist movies, which are a bit like D&D dungeon exploration if D&D parties had good info and planned ahead - so, nothing like a D&D dungeon. I admit I'm thinking National Treasure.
>>98629657The more successful a scavenger lord is, the more people they can hire and the bigger hauls they can then scavengeYou could have a loner scavenger lord who has a bunch of little First Age trinkets, but nothing anybody wants to buy.The only inspiration I can think of that isn't adventurer archaeologist is that damn seagull from Little Mermaid with his cave full of random bullshit
>>98629709>Are there many Exalted Scavenger Lords capable of ganking a Solar outright?Unless your Twilight is an out-of-shape nerd and the scavenger lord is a buff badass, unlikely. Of course, a good scavenger lord has been picking through ruins for years, and who knows what dangerous crap they ripped out of a wall somewhere.
>>98629709>>98629714I'm talking about BEFORE the scavenger guy got Exalted.
>>98629868...so was I, when I said an assassin's build makes for a perfectly fine scavenger lord.
>>98629522>>98629657>>98629742>>98629754Isn’t this just the Paragon, except if he Exalted when he found that First Age staff?
>>98628609Is this for 3e? Because IIRC Sid animas were never iconic, they just glowed harder.
>>98629453>1237 pagesalmost as long as my dick
>>98629754it depends. Solars are humans without their charms. Even with Ox Body it just means an extra chop or two. Get him in bed and have the hooker icepick his brain at climax and he'll still die.
>>98630282Did they nerf Ox-Body in Third? I mostly know First Edition and ExWoD and a few Ox-Bodies basically means an (ordinary) mortal physically can't assassinate you
>>986303143e's weird combat system actually makes assassinations a plot device kind of deal. IIRC, you can't build up initiative to make a decisive attack without rolling join battle so it's pretty much up to the ST whether you're allowed to instakill or be instakilled in your sleep. The alternative is slapping your opponent awake so you can have a proper fight to the death with him.
>>98630351That can't possibly be right. There's no way the rules just don't touch on getting hit in your sleep or from behind before combat.
>>98630363If there was, I don't remember it. I freely admit I could be wrong but I try my best not to think about any edition past 2.5.
>>98630398Idk. The principle of ambush is sound though. I have fond memories of the Infernal in my ExWoD game with 2 Perception and 0 Alertness getting stealth ambushed by Donatello (yes the turtle), taking 17 Health and being thrown face through the Turtles' TV and getting up very pissed off at 3 Health and that being the closest any of my Chosen came to being assassinated. It wasn't an expy, they were being chased by the Technocracy from the Abyssal's sewer hideout and decided to flee into the Dreaming. So they went to imagination land. In the sewers. In New York. They were walking about ten minutes before walking into a seemingly abandoned *second* sewer hideout, before Donatello's staff bitchslapped the future queen of hell through a CRT television.
2e homebrew, with 3e’s choice of 5 out of 8 Caste Abilities and Supernal Ability.
>>98630415I keep hearing about ExWoD, I should probably read the rules at some point
>>98629709>Are there many Exalted Scavenger Lords capable of ganking a Solar outright?Depends on what you mean by 'many' and how relevant that is to the intent of your question. Scavenger lords tend to be well-connected and have the means and motive to be mobile. They are some of the most likely people in Creation to cross a Direction to beat you up and steal your shit, coming in at #3 behind the Wyld Hunt and your Lunar ex. Exalted also pick up the profession as a hobby like... all the time. Raksi could be described as a retired scavenger lord and you would have pegged like 90% of her relevant traits. The Bull's circle has looted every ruin they could find in half a direction. The Perfect of Paragon literally clapped a Solar's cheeks and would come running, possibly with a fully mobilized Paragon at his back, if someone found the Orb of Peace and Order.
>>98630434It's good. Maybe even the best.
>>98629602Intimacies aren't a problem. Just what would removing them fix?>>98630252You mean the Perfect. Yeah, he used to be a scavenger lord. He's been a ruler so long that I doubt his current "build" is all that similar to what he was like back in the day.>>98630363There are rules for ambushes, so attacking someone in his sleep would probably be just that, with the possibility of the sleeper being alerted and waking up before the strike if he wins Join Battle, probably with penalties to the roll for being asleep.
>>98630450>the possibility of the sleeper being alerted and waking up before the strike if he wins Join BattleFor the same reason ambushes turn off charms thanks to Reflex Sidestep Technique, you don't get a roll to Join Battle while asleep thanks to Surprise Anticipation Method. You do get to roll Awareness against their Stealth, but you can't use charms to enhance the roll, and if you win you get to play, but if you don't then you can't defend yourself - it's an ambush, since you're not in the initiative order to take a turn and they've won stealth.>SAM: Second: her senses function even when she is asleep or Incapacitated, allowing her to use any of her Awareness Charms subconsciously. A threat revealed to the Solar while she is asleep or unconscious automatically revives her, allowing her to defend herself.
>>98630583Oh, that's funny. The wording on Surprise Anticipation Method will actually bring you back up from Incapacitation if you notice a threat while unconscious from damage, even in the same scene, so SAM is actually a pretty powerful battle damage mitigation charm even if it's pretty mediocre as far as avoiding ambushes goes. It literally revives you. Good luck with the wound penalties but still.
>>98629453Thank you ExWoDfag. To explain, a friend sent me this because I only read, I don't play games. I read the prologue of the campaign, was annoyed by the lack of a table of contents, so I converted it to an epub, and made a table of contents. Then saw the unfinished ending and came here to bug you.Since I haven't read the full thing, I have two questions. Was does the wyrm tainted redhead have such shit taste in fashion? There's already one purple member of the team, Black Hole Sun, she's muscling (literally) in on his turf with her purple outfit. I liked the tiger print here: >>98628621 moreMy second is, why highschoolers? When I hear, 'demigods bringing an age of high magic back to a world of darkness' (the line my friend used to described ExWoD to me) I usually imagine protagonists as being slightly older. Then again that's probably my bias towards not reading a lot of things with young protags. Also both the previous PDF and this new one had your legal name attached in the properties of the PDF, luckily you have one of those generic white people names.
>>98629522NTA, I always wanted to know if there were any rules for creating a character who already knew thaumaturgy or was already a mortal sorcerer pre exaltation. Although apparently this isn't even possible anymore in 3e.
>>98630363I'm not going to bother looking up sleeping rules, but I assume it means your Defense is 0. Doesn't matter if you're using a knife or a greatsword. A mortal assassin probably has 7/8 JB, so around 7/8 initiative. Unless the assassin majorly fucks up their attack, they succeed. They then do an average of 2-4 HLs of damage and then reset to base initiative and their target then rolls JB.
>>98631105It is possible in 3E, Thamauturgy is just guttedYour Exalt could have been a mortal sorcerer but they don't get anything bonus for it
>>98631235>their target then rolls JBThey should have fatigue penalties waking up but yeah.>They then do an average of 2-4 HLs of damageIt's actually kind of crazy that slitting a mortal's throat in their sleep doesn't actually do enough to incapacitate or even majorly wound them. They only die if they (slowly) bleed out without getting medical attention, there's only minor long-term damage, etc etc. Unironically you might be better off smothering someone with a pillow and hoping your uncontested attack + control roll gets enough rounds of control to suffocate them.
>>98631249And that's a professional assassin, because some schmuck with a JB of 2-3 only gets like 4-5 initiative and would only do like 1-2 HL
>>98631268What I want to know is how you can optimise assassinations to be even vaguely viable for mortals. Aim, and obviously poison. Does it automatically wake people up if you make them ingest something in their sleep, or would that be Larceny vs their Awareness? But also I feel like it should be possible to do something with several rounds of setup without attacking a person that's actually useful. Is there some kind of elaborate trap that would be worth the effort?
>>98631299If it's necessary to use the combat system to handle assassinating helpless targets - which isn't necessarily how I'd do things when running the game - I think it'd be fair to treat such targets as noncombatants and follow the rules for those.
>>98631299For a heroic mortal assassin, poison is probably the best betMechanically, it might be better to use your ambush attack on a withering attack. Sure you won't have an ambush attack the next round, but you'll have a ton of initiative to swing into a decisive. Combine that with a poison and the opponent is pretty screwed.
>>98631417>Mechanically, it might be better to use your ambush attack on a withering attackI'm pretty sure the ambush attack goes to a grapple gambit. Target can't fight back so you roll against Defense 0 and make the control roll unopposed. It might well be grapple into a withering savage though.
>>98631249>>98631436Yeah, grapple and smother with a pillow is probably the safest bet
>>98621055Assuming that the Gold path is as off-kilter as the Bronze path was from the canon timeline: what does the AU timeline where Sids went gold look like if it were actually written as like a Shard or something, do we think?I'll start us off by saying I think the Gold Faction purges the Bronze Faction. Tammiz Ushun kills Chejop Kejak then seduces his reincarnation. I have no idea how they handle the Dragonblood revolting anyway.
>>98631559There was a lot of DBs who didn't revolt as well, but I imagine that going forward they would not be trusted as much
>>98630363There are charms that defend against it but are shitty. Stealth and Awareness are the only contested roll where they made Awareness slightly shittier than Stealth. Probably because one was play a night caste and was getting butt hurt in play tests. This is the result.
>>986308321) Shit that's mildly annoying. Where's it say my name?2) I'll have to tell her player you said that about her fashion sense. Black has an emo fashion sense, a lot of black (hence the name). He doesn't wear purple, and he usually wears a hoodie or dresses like Neo from the Matrix movies. Arsinoe dresses like a punk rocker, usually a leather jacket or something. Adam dresses like a preppy Mormon (he is an atheist) and Claire wears hoodies since she's ashamed of her appearance, but when encouraged wears dresses.3) >Why are they teenagersThis is whyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHalaFUqnTIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5txHGxJRwtQThey're four teens who wear color cooridinated outfits who all have different colored superpowers: black (Abyssal), green (Infernal), gold (Solar) and silver (Lunar) who fight an evil mega-corporation which turns people into monsters using schemes that involve setting them evil products and which serves a more malevolent entity beyond the Earth. So I pitched my campaign specifically as a Saturday Morning Cartoon. Street Sharks, Mummies Alive, TMNT, Power Rangers, Sailor Moon, etc by way of World of Darkness.

>>986319341) CTRL+D deleted the file permanently. Luckily I had back-ups but still. Also I already knew how to open properties I meant where specifically. 2) Black is black, Arsinoe is green. All the PCs were straight...3) Yeah teenagers with attitudes was the idea, though tonally I was ripping off Venture Bros alot.
>>98632045Okay, but just saying you're not at any risk of getting doxxed. Like I said you have one of those really generic white people names, when I look it up literally every single thing I get back from chrome is a new different white guy with the same exact name. So it's not like there's any threat of that happening.
>>98632084I know but due diligence and all that.
Free tip for all Zenith players: If you're going to be a spiritual leader, remember to do it in style!
>>98631559>>98631602I always wondered if in the leadup to the usurpation the bronze Sids secretly indoctrinated new DBloods from birth to think of Solars as anathema and taught the immaculate philosophy, so they had a bunch of assassins with no connection to the Solars. And then after the usurpation these new DBloods got all the top positions in the shogunate.
>>98632723In 3e I made Mowgli meets Joshua Graham because Survival strong and I liked Resistance.
>>98621055i did play a sidereal, yes.
>>98630268i was thinking that too.
>>98630268I'm unsureThis chart doesn't mention iconic anima like the similar chart in 3E Core doesBut the Caste overviews in the prior pages do have examples of iconic anima
>>98633837The>This may be accompanied by other sensory displays.>She manifest unique displays. Are the banners. In 1e, Sidereals didn't have banners, they had halos instead which made me scrap my angel exigent homebrew
>>98633866Ah, I'm just blindI wonder why they changed it
>>98633897Player agency or something, they may have been jealous of the other exalted having cool banners, despite banners being a trap.
Pretty sure you guys are wrong on that sleeping thing btw. It's just not exactly handled by the rules is all. For Ambush both people roll Join Battle, even the sleeping person. What sleeping should do is give a penalty to the join battle roll/awareness to represent, you know, sleeping. Maybe make it an auto 1 or 0. You need this because people can be crashed. There isn't a "Attacking people outside of combat" mechanic for 3e. I don't think there is one for 2e either? Why there aren't rules for what happens when you're sleeping, one of the most common conditions to come up in a game ever, I have no idea. I guess against a sleeping target you'd have more time to build up initiative, with the target making an awareness roll each round to see if they notice you and wake up? That doesn't work though because Ambush can only be used before the target takes their turn. Ambush really needed some fine tuning before release, the errata made by Vance Robo proves to me that the devs also know this.
>>98633928i love the siddies not having iconic displays. their whole point is being secret agents.
>>98633964>That doesn't work though because Ambush can only be used before the target takes their turnNo, if the target remains unaware of you then you can Ambush attack on later Combat rounds, but you have no way to build up initiative. There's a whole Solar Stealth Charm that builds up initiative or something every round you are undetected by an enemy.
>>98634082Right, right. Mixed up that generally line. Point still stands. The rules even mention how stealth is extremely context based.
>>98633964There is, kinda
>>98634523I can't seem to find this, where is it from? Also I thought the attack treated the targets defense and such as 0, not actually setting it to zero. It's a small but important difference.
>>98634584pg. 141, Step One: First Actions
>>98634591???.
>>98634603oh ffs you mean 2e. I get it now.
>>98633964There is, they are simply considered to have DV 0 since they can't defend against shit. Which is still better than the nothing 3e has.
>>98633988The Devs hate this for some reason. Which is why they made a bunch of changes to the usurpation that don't make sense.
>>98635010What did they change about the Usurpation?
>>98635070NTA but the Great Prophecy is no longer a thing, and IIRC Sidereals originally planned to openly rule Creation themselves, but the Mask breaking ruined that plan.
>>98633964>There isn't a "Attacking people outside of combat" mechanic for 3eThere is, actually. pg208 core or picrel. Treat them as a Size 0 battlegroup with a permanent initiative rating of 0, meaning they have no charms, take damage from withering attacks directly, and have no Hardness because they count as being in crash.>For Ambush both people roll Join Battle, even the sleeping person. The rules text for SAM says they don't have the opportunity to fight back. They roll Awareness but they definitely can't Join Battle, since that could turn off ambushes.
>>98635229>or picrelI keep saying that and then not attaching the prepared screenshot. I blame being sleepy.
>>98635229>>98635231Yeah, treating a sleeping or otherwise helpless target as a noncombatant seems like the best way to handle things, with him waking up, rolling Join Battle and becoming, well, a combatant, if he survives the initial attack.
What sort of upper limits could Raksha do with Behemoths and Oneiromancy?
>>98635424Who knows. Our examples of the upper limits of raksha that aren't jobbing are either completely narrative-based and have narrative powers that work despite the fact they shouldn't work, or they are Primordials.
>>98635467if you haven't read any of their books why even reply
>>98635490What's in their books for PCs isn't described as the upper limit, it's normal shit for dime-a-dozen noble fae. There are barely any unshaped raksha charms, and we're told explicitly that people like Laashe and Balor have powers that work even when they really shouldn't.
You get access to all three circles of sorcery (or necromancy, your choice) as a mortal dumped into Creation right this second. You're going somewhere chosen by fate, you don't know where. If it's 1e/2e you're Essence 3, if it's 3e you're an E1 scrub as normal. What would you take as your free/control spells?yes this is jumpchain leakingfirstjumpyes i also play exaltedas an exalted player its probably just cirrus skiff, travel without distance, and like mirage of protective shelter since i know where the invisible fortress is and can just ferry people to swarm the guardian in dream combat then teleport through all the traps
>>98633964Truly, Infernals have the best Awareness Charms in 3e because their defensive ones work better when you fail to make Awareness checks at all, let you retaliate and even Clash attacks, can explicitly be used without conscious in-character action, and cap it all with a PD. This means theoretically an Infernal can eat you alive while asleep in response to an axe strike to the head or something.
>>98635096And how do those things not make sense? I think the Great Prophecy is not really an interesting narrative piece at all and if anything it's a can of worms questioning Sids' agency. Also the book explicitly says they would rule "for a time" and calls that predicted period an "interregnum" meant to bring a new status quo of some sorts. It's vague on what the actual post-Solar solution was meant to be but I think it's also meant to strongly imply they never assumed to stay at the helm forever.
>>98636120I dunno, as I said, NTA. I jyst expkained what was changed. I don't see how the Great Prophecy ever called Sidereals' agency in question, though.
>>98636120>I think the Great Prophecy is not really an interesting narrative piece at all and if anything it's a can of worms questioning Sids' agency>The prophetic fate exalted base their decisions on prophecies. It is like hating solars having powers over sunlight.
>>98636156I don't "hate" the Great Prophecy, i just don't see how saying that the Sidereals came to the idea themselves through careful deliberation and planning (you know, the things they are meant to be good at) is better than saying that supercharged Tarot laid out their only options in front of them and they picked one that felt the least bad.
>>98636176The problem is, super tarot is an essential part of their "careful deliberation and planning", meaning that it was a change that didn't change anything. If anything, it made the Sidereals the real villains of the first age, who nearly destroyed the world out of hubris and desire of conquering the world by destroying magical United Nations.
>>98636210Yes, astrology and prophecies in some form were definitely involved. Still, making it more of an organic plan that no one wanted to go with at first but over time they realised it might be the only way just feels better to me personally. I also really don't get your second point, why would that be the case. Because they didn't have Mama Fate to fall back onto thus excusing themselves of all accountability? That's exactly what taking away agency means. I think the passages in 3E Sid book do a decent job at describing how it went down and why, definitely doesn't give the vibe like it was a power grab.
>>98636280Every exalted was committing atrocities in 3e's first age, including Sidereals, meaning that they didn't really have grounds to eliminate the solars, who in 3e weren't the world's god kings. And the whole "we only planned to govern for a bit" falls flat because they both didn't have a plan for to where, and the implication of them pulling a second usurpation.
>>98636301"Others were bad too" is not an argument. It is very explicitly stated, multiple times, that Solars were the main rulers and they had access to the strongest artifice, sorcery and Wyld-shapinjg which also meant the biggest atrocities, down to erasing free will and such, were also attributed to them. The fact Creation would be destroyed or worse if Sids did nothing is just that, a fact, both in- and out-of-universe>implication of them pulling a second usurpation. What implication? It's true that the book doesn't mention what exactly their plan for after the Usurpation was but it is clear they didn't intend to stay in power and that's what I will believe, not interpretations of Anons going against what is pretty plain English.Really, this entire line of reasoning is what I am against in regards to the Great Prophecy. That if there is some supernatural stamp of approval on what the Sids did then it's fine, not their fault they were forced to by fate, but if it's their own hard decision then it's bad and a power grab.
>>98636301>But they have no right, they have no plan! That never stopped anyone convinced they were right, I think fate powers would only make them doubly double down on them being right.
>>98636361Kind of is, when the ones who nearly destroyed the world after committing the atrocity are the accusers A.K.A. Sidereals.
>>98636366Yes, the only thing 3e did was made Sidereals greedy and hubristic.
>>98636387Sids were already hubristic
>>98636374Ok, so what is your point now? Do you want the Great Prophecy to exist as an excuse for Sidereals so that they have no real accountability for what they did? I think it's more interesting if the decision and all of its consequences were theirs, especially since the book also is very explicit about how it was not something they came to quickly or easily, and how every other option wasn't good enough to get support from everyone.>>98636301>Every exalted was committing atrocities in 3e's first age, including SiderealsActually, looking at 3E Sid book it even directly addresses that at at least two points.>While they could not stop every atrocity perpetrated by the Exalted, they could remove the Lawgivers who brought the greatest of Exalted power to bear in their hubris.>While any of the Exalted could pose a threat to Creation, the Solars’ supreme might and their mastery of sorcery and artifice made them the greatest danger. If they could be removed from the equation, Creation might be able to endure.
>>98636418Yes, but they somehow made sidereals more hubristic, to the point that in canon they lost their ability of being Creation's god kings out of karma.
>>98636425>>While any of the Exalted could pose a threat to Creation, the Solars’ supreme might and their mastery of sorcery and artifice made them the greatest danger. If they could be removed from the equation, Creation might be able to endure. This point is invalidated by solar level exigents being around
If there were like a 100+ Lunars who didn't have a Solar bond in 3E, why didn't the Sidereals loop them in on the plan to stop the SolarsDo they ever mention this in the Sid or Lunar book? There being 400+ Lunars lore is still canon, right?
>>98636457Half of 3e is written like if the setting was 1e/2e's.The writers ignore their own changes when writing it.
>>98636452I'll admit I know very little about Exigents but do they really get access to Solar workings and such? Regardless, even if they did, singular Exigents do not have the same kind of effect as ~300 mad Solars. Overall I really don't think this is a solid way or arguing against the Usurpation when it's made very clear that yes, Solars really were the main reason things would eventually explode even if everyone had their own skeletons in the closet.
>>98636457Pic related, Sids had way more allies than just DBs and some Lunars were recruited. Hell, even some Solars were on their side. No numbers given but it's probably better that way. I don't know how it's portrayed from Lunar PoV in their books.
>>98636479>I'll admit I know very little about Exigents but do they really get access to Solar workings and suchSome do.> Regardless, even if they did, singular Exigents do not have the same kind of effect as ~300 mad Solars. There's no real difference, specially how the devs changed the 1st age solar politics. With enough good gacha rolls, Exigents would make the problem far worse.
>>98636120The problem isn't the lack of a Great Prophesy, the problem is that they want to openly rule for no reason. Their charmset works best when they work in the shadows and their own mindsets are tuned for being the power behind the throne. That's literally everything about their characterization as an exalt. They are literally in previous editions called Viziers. They don't need to openly rule. They also don't have time for what that entails. It's just a way to make the Usurpation less morally black and white than it was in previous editions.
>>98636452Considering the how common (not common at all) Solar-tier Exigents are, they don't invalidate the point at all.
>>98636442>Yes, but they somehow made sidereals more hubristic, to the point that in canon they lost their ability of being Creation's god kings out of karma. It's fucking adorable that the comeuppance for the Sidereal's being hubristic enough to take things into their own hands and out of the Solar's hands didn't come down to their plans failing, their actions being poorly thought through, or because of any mistakes on their parts of the parts of their allies. In the end the 3e Sids got shat on for no reason. They stuck the Jade Prison up in the sky and the big fiat guy in the sky said 'fuck you'. I mean hell in 1e/2e arcane fate came about because they went too hard on concealing themselves from the world without asking if they would ever be able to stop and are now suffering the consequences of their actions - that's hubristic comeuppance done right, by comparison!
>>98636503>There's no real differenceThere's an immense difference, really, even if just because Exigents are singular and do not reincarnate by default (according to 3E Core, again, I didn't read any of their own dedicated material). That means even any single Solar-level Exigent ever becomes a world-ending threat you can simply eliminate them or otherwise solve the issue and you're good. Solars had a systemic, foundational claim to all of Creation, the power and structures already in place to enforce it and they would always come back to start their bullshit again. That alone sets them apart enough in my mind.
>>98636531There's no real default for exigents, it depends entirely on the homebrewer.
>>98636531>Solars had a systemic, foundational claim to all of Creation, the power and structures already in place to enforce it and they would always come back to start their bullshit again.3e changed this... the Mandate of Heaven was for all Exalted.
>>98636512I think the biggest difference in our stances here is that I just believe the passages that say Sids ruling was meant as a temporary solution. Why would I doubt it without anything suggesting otherwise other than maybe just cynicism? That said, I honestly don't even mind the plan backfiring since I think it does make for a more interesting story overall.>>98636541Yeah, which is why making claims like 'Solar-tier Exigents mean that killing Solars was wrong and unjustified" isn't right. Too much depends on what you do with them but the foundations laid imply that making Solar-tier reincarnating Exigents wouldn't be easy enough to create a global danger.>>98636547Solars were THE rulers, that's their entire shtick. They can shape the Wyld, get all the cool artifacts, strongest Sorcery etc. Everyone had the right to rule, everyone did bad shit but it's really not left to any sort of discussion, in the Sid book or anywhere else, that Solars were the main issue of late First Age. I'm pretty sure that change is just a part of the effort to pull backsome of the solarwank (only solaroids matter ever) that permeated all of 2E. And before anyone tries, yes, you can do both and say that Solars weren't the only splat that mattered but also single them out as overall the biggest danger.
>>98636503>Some do.How did the First Age's wonders fall apart if they had Exigents around who had the power level to fix and create Solar level infrastructure
>>98636578>I think the biggest difference in our stances here is that I just believe the passages that say Sids ruling was meant as a temporary solution. Why would I doubt it without anything suggesting otherwise other than maybe just cynicism? That said, I honestly don't even mind the plan backfiring since I think it does make for a more interesting story overallThe Sidereals didn't have a plan, meaning that they would rule for a long time.>Solars were THE rulers, that's their entire shtick3e changed it, they were rulers, but they weren't the only ones, and didn't rule the world.>that Solars were the main issue of late First Age. They weren't the only "exalted main issue" that happened in 3e's first age, the exalted kept having major wars against each other.
So if the Creation-Ruling Mandate applied to all Exalted, then it's no longer Solars rising up to reclaim their stolen rulership, it's them rebelling against the rightful rulers of CreationWhat I'm saying is that it's going to be a lot to harder to find a DB they can stuff all the other DBs inside as a prison than it was for Malfeas and the Yozis
>>98636589>How did the First Age's wonders fall apart if they had Exigents around who had the power level to fix and create Solar level infrastructureThey both were and were not being made during the Shogunate/Age of Sorrows, whichever is more convenient to whatever you're trying to justify at the time. If you're wondering why technology decayed, it's because there were no exigents (ignore that celestials have celestial lifespans) because the Unconquered Sun had turned his face from Creation and is the source of the Flame of Exigency. If you're wondering whether you can have Exigents made in that time period then of course you can, many of them don't even come from the Unconquered Sun like the Sovereigns, and he did actually still regularly leave the Games to pronounce judgements in Heaven (apparently????!???) which include but are not limited to forcing gods to suicide making Exigents (see: Foxbinder) and handing out enough of the Flames to create a thriving black market of Exigents.
>>98636475To be fair, it's not like any tables will note that type of shit in actual play. Creation is big enough to the point people not knowing that there's an instant solution to whatever they are facing isn't surprising.
>>98636589There weren't enough to save most of them from decay.
>>98636650It is just the novel aspect of the game.Them using 1e/2e lore as a basis may cause some confusion, but it can easily be blushed off in actual play.
>>98635893I don't remember enough spells of the top of my head to give you a useful answer but what would happen if you used Amalgam Creation as a mortal? Are you just limited to not giving out charms or would you give out generic ones?
>>98636720I get being frustrated with the writers being inconsistent with a lot of important shit like what >>98636630 brings up.
>>98636790Imbue Amalgam? The 2e version lets you give it any charm, but the mote cost is more than double if you don't know it yourself. The 1e version allows any charm in your Exalt type / that you could naturally access, so for a mortal sorcerer it would normally only allow terrestrial sorcery and terrestrial martial arts, though I guess in this case it could probably pick up second and third circle sorcery since you can do that. On the upside the 1e version has no extra mote cost for giving it charms you don't know, so long as you could have learned them eventually.
>>98636813>though I guess in this case it could probably pick up second and third circle sorcery since you can do thatoh wait nevermind it's explicitly hard locked out of that. Sidereals could give it SMA though which is kind of funny.
>>98636824To be fair giving someone a new supernatural organ is a better excuse to give people SMA than actual training.
>>98636493>Hell, even some Solars were on their side.Interestingly, they implied in 1E that some Solars knew about the Usurpation, but were either too crazy/paranoid to act on it, or just let it happen because they saw how bad their fellow Solars had become.
>>98635424There's the Grass Cutter Scythe that can...literally hit entire Directions. For Oneiromancy that isn't N/A, there's probably a lot of stuff you can do but the way that Oneiromancy spells work is very much inspiration-from-charms based and no one read Fair Folk charms.
why didn't sidereals / lunars / dbs make artifacts that can enable them to do Solar Artifice
>>98638349White Wolf never really figured out what happens when you give people utility powers, from thaumaturgy to curseborn. And the devs didn't really think about the ramifications of giving everyone Solar charms through evocations.
>>98638349Because that would require more effort and cooperation with one another than any one exalted can spare?I don't know all of the Artefact limits have always been weird as hell and I don't think there was ever a line of lore explaining some kind of fail safe or if it was just easier to require a Solar to wield whatever large scale projects.Either that or it was one more curse effect.
>>98638349They wouldn't have been able to access the Evocations like a Solaroid could
>>98638518They do, but only for their magical material, this issue caused jade artifacts to be written very differently in DB books vs elsewhere, since otherwise DB wouldn't have reasons to touch their own charms otherwise.
>>98638573Wouldn't Evocations that allow for Solar tier Crafting be on an orichalcum artifact? Which only Solars (and some Exigents) could access?
Why are there no lolis in this setting? I thought the Unconquered Sun was supposed to be Based?
>>98639154Nothings stopping you from playing one or making one as an NPC.
>>98639154Can somebody post that one sidereal pic?
>>98639050No. It's a numbers game all you need is a few charms that give you access to exploding dice rerolls and you're good.
>>98639154Raksi, Crow the Boy, Rose Sun and Moon, Shoat of the Mire...
>>98639914Did Rose Sun and Moon ever show up past the Caste Books
>>98639938Not off the top of my head. A lot of CB and AB Exalts never reappeared.
>>98638573>>98639050Resonant Evocations are explicitly Solar tier from Arms of the Chosen. However, you can pretty clearly see throughout the books that this doesn't manifest in the canon artifacts.
>>98639050>Wouldn't Evocations that allow for Solar tier Crafting be on an orichalcum artifact? No. Orichalcum isn't any more crafting-focussed than any other material and is less so than, say, white jade or adamant. It's generally powerful but not specifically exceptional for crafting. All magical materials are, in theory, equally powerful in 3e. Evocations are equal when wielded by characters with the same level of resonance/dissonance. That is, making something from one material or the other isn't supposed to make a more powerful artifact or an artifact with more powerful evocations, and a Dragonblood wielding a resonant artifact isn't supposed to have weaker evocations than a Solar wielding the same artifact. Well, there's a small exception, but that exception is specifically for permanent enhancements to your base powerset, and a Resonant enhancement is still supposed to be a Solar-tier improvement even if the base charm is DB-tier.
>>98639050Evocations are completely optional. In fact they're just a trap for retards. Artifacts can just do things.
>>98635893In 3e, I'd take Virtuous Guardian of Flame, Invulnerable Skin of Bronze and Death Ray with the Ifrit initiation, taking the ability to form an artifact sword of flame / flamewand out of my anima like Glorious Solar Saber. This is entirely for flavor, I know Mists of Eventide and Travel Without Distance are way stronger. In 2e it would be either the three Infernal summoning spells or Unbreakable Bones of Stone, Threefold Binding of the Heart and Benediction of Archgenesis.
>>98639154>>98639914Old Mnemon was also stuck as a loli after the Versino IIRC. Or maybe that's a highschooler. Also Crow the Boy makes my boner gain the Adamant Skin Technique.
>>98640663>>98639050In 1E they said orichalcum alone could embody perfection. This changed in 2E, where orichalcum was a flex because only Solars could attune to it.
>>98640670I like the idea of Evocations, I just dislike the idea of paying for them. They're a good way to codify an artifact's charmlike powers but sometimes a magic sword is really just a magic fucking sword. They also make artifacts a pain to use because the ST has to manually approve each and every power an artifact might have.
Clueless newb. Someone talking about it got me intrigued. Which edition should I start with? How do Virtues work?
>>98640712>Virtuous Guardian of Flame, Invulnerable Skin of Bronze and Death RayThat's two first circles and a third circle, anon!>In 2e it would be either the three Infernal summoning spellsOn the one hand, as a mortal you wouldn't be able to bind demons - that's Exalt-only. On the other hand, being able to summon demons of all three circles would put you in a pretty damn good position to immediately start negotiating a deal with Hell of some kind. If your goal is Exaltation as an Infernal then holy shit you have bigger balls than I would have but also holy shit I could see it working if some mortal rolled up with third circle sorcery and offered themselves to the Reclamation's cause. They've already proven themselves worthy at that point. The Infernal versions of Demon of the X Circle are infernal-only in case you meant those specifically.>Unbreakable Bones of Stone, Threefold Binding of the Heart and Benediction of ArchgenesisBased choices. The first two can get you out of any situation no matter where you spawn and Benediction of Archgenesis makes 80% of the world free real estate.
>>98640761>Clueless newb. Someone talking about it got me intrigued. Which edition should I start with? To some extent it depends on what you were intrigued by. If it was gonzo dinosaurs-in-jets and dueling a sapient concept type malarky then go 2e, and if you're not really sure why you're here then I'd still say to start with 2e Core by default even if you don't end up playing 2e first because it's the best corebook when it comes to grabbing your attention and getting you invested. It wins the vibes check, and it's also the most complete and well-known edition if you decide to go for it. If someone was talking about Exalted it was probably about 2e. If you're here because you heard high power low fantasy then you probably want 1e or 3e, and I'd recommend starting with 1e if your experience/desire is more simulationist rules>vibes coherent-settings-are-ideal (and especially if you want better writing) and 3e if your experience/desire is more for narrative give-it-a-go do-whatever vibes>rules. If you want to go from balls to walls as fast as possible and aren't particularly interested in the setting so much as you are playing Exalted, and especially if you want a less rules heavy mastery required start than the mainline games which are absolute clonkers, go Essence. It's also second-highest to maybe equal with 2e for gonzo bullshit potential, but kind of runs out of steam lategame.
>>98640761>How do Virtues work?1e/2e only, you have four Virtues (Compassion, Conviction, Temperance, Valor) and if you have them at high numbers then you need to fail rolls against them or spend willpower to act against them (kill the child! turn away from your goal in favor of your friends! break your oaths! run from battle!), but also if you're faced with challenges to them then you roll them to avoid falling prey to the challenges associated (have compassion for the child who bruised your kid! stick to your ideals when shit goes wrong! keep your oaths even when it's hard! fight even terrifying foes!). Also, you can spend Willpower to add your rating in a Virtue as dice to a roll if the roll supports that virtue, so if you have a ludicrously high Temperance and swear an oath to defend your charge at all costs you could add all those Temperance dice to break over your normal limits and caps by a bunch.
>>986407202E Mnemon looked like she was eternally 16, so not quite loli territory. 1E Mnemon looked like she was in her thirties.
>>98621055Isn’t there another Celestial City in 3e IIRC? What’s the deal there?
>>98641096Do you mean Zen-Mu? It's probably not a city and it's basically just a numinous nothingburger, so I wouldn't care about it until the devs do (probably when Getimians come out).I guess you might also be talking about Malfeas which is kind of celestial and kind of a city but most people call it the demon city so probably not.Yu Shan in 3e is still Yu Shan, the Blessed Isle-shaped continental scale city. It is so big that it basically has cities inside it, with individual neighbourhoods taking up more space than a lot of Creation's cities and individual estates the size of Creation's neighbourhoods. That much has always been the case, but 3e went into more detail onto what some of those places actually look like rather than having it all be background elements.
>>98641150I like to imagine "Zen-mu" is just what happens when powerful beings come together without a "creation" separating them. Hell is a Zen-Mu but a bad one.
>>98640823Yeah, but nobody says you have to pick one of each circle. >demonbindingFun fact, if you have the Infernal demon summoning spells, you can just bullshit that you're a mortal akuma (Demon-Blooded?) and there's a pretty decent chance you can get them to obey because the infernal demon summoning spells are based entirely on the caster being higher-ranked than the summon (akuma and GSPs are techncially artificial third circle souls, which makes them outrank everyone else). Do not try this on actual Third Circles, they would be your peers even if you actually were an Infernal, and more importantly, they probably have ways of seeing whether you're actually a GSP.>>98640761I personally feel 1E and 2E have the most sovl. Virtues are a strength and weakness both; having high virtues gives you more motes and lets you channel them per session to get a bonus to your rolls (where appropriate; it is almost never fitting to channel Compassion to rip a heart out of a chest, for example), but at the same time Virtues that are too high impose a compulsion on you to obey them. For example, if you have a high Compassion (3+) and you see someone suffering, you are compelled to help them unless you fail a Compassion roll (get no successes when rolling your Compassion). That sort of thing.
>>98641096I can't remember exactly but Zen-Mu was something like the Celestial City before Yu-Shan, or possibly where the Primordials gathered before they made Yu-Shan and CreationIt's also apparently really fucked up
>>98641461Pretty sure this is right. My headcanon is that a Zen-Mu is a thing you get when Primordials gather without a Yu-Shan and a Creation. For 2e and 3e it's rather vague but I'm rather confident that it's supposed to be an actual place you can go to. Has monsters and stuff.
>>98641444>having high virtues gives you more motesThat alone makes maxing out your virtues in 2E a must-have just because of how combat works.
>>98641527>That alone makes maxing out your virtues in 2E a must-have just because of how combat works.if you're a disgusting munchkin sureIt's also a great way to be in perma-Limit Break
>>98635893There is no stronger terrestrial spell then Demon of the First Circle. A mortal sorcerer probably can't handle Second Circle and Third Circle. The downside is needing money for the summoning materials. The best thing about First Circle demons is that you can learn spells from them. You can also produce half-demons to train with a neomah. The best celestial spell is likely Imbue Amalgam (needs money however), but Cloud Trapeze would likely let you make tons of jade with your hard to track cloud capable of going 100 MPH.Solar spells are either too dangerous (Demon of the Third Circle) or too conspicuous. You're probably better off taking Benediction of Archgenesis or Enemy of Nature. You could also take Evocation from the Mirror to produce servants, but you aren't likely to catch anybody actually useful as a mortal.
>>98641541Just because I don't want to get splatted doesn't mean I'm a munchkin.
>stab with a knife>have to wait 4 seconds/ticks to stab againExalted combat seems really slow
>>98642832Some RPGs have shorter rounds, some have longer rounds, some have about as long rounds. Nothing really unusual there.
>>98641525>For 2e and 3e it's rather vague but I'm rather confident that it's supposed to be an actual place you can go to. Has monsters and stuff.3e is also expanding upon the firmament a bit
>>98643132I dislike art like this. JJK and Naruto had fights like this with Sukuna and Pain and it's just so messy. I prefer the jacky chan method of having the action be clear with multiple hits to really show off an impact.Infernal castes are based around space math so I imagine space used to be a thing before they left in 3e, otherwise the names make literally no sense. I don't think I like that but whatever.

What’s the verdict on Qwixalted?
>>98645310Functional, well thought out, extensive, feels nothing like Exalted to play. 7.5/10
>>98645310Too messy, too much lame text. It feels like a chore to read. Might give it another chance one day, not sure yet. I've heard semi-good things about playing it.If you like fucking around with fan stuff I'd give it a try. Worst thing that could happen is that it sucks.
>>98642832You don't actually stab someone and then wait four seconds, in theory. What the tick and action Speed system is supposed to represent is stabbing someone taking four seconds with a knife and six seconds with a goremaul. This is immediately undercut by movement happening per tick so you actually stab and then can move fifteen feet away by the time you're done with your stab, but the idea is supposed to be that some actions take longer to perform than others, rather than taking longer to recover from and prepare to act again which is how it actually works out.>>98644932Exalted Solars by Wukong and HeavensAnon, where you can take the perk enabling three circles of sorcery (and overcasting) and the drawback removing Exaltation at the same time. Technically it doesn't give you any free spells, but my table's always played with each circle of sorcery you buy giving you a free spell from that circle to get you started (like with 3e control spells) and I kind of forgot that wasn't actually how it worked by default in 1e/2e when I posted the prompt.
>>98645310gonna assume you're talking about QE rather than the older versions.Dense, but surprisingly more well thought out than you might expect. Makes certain Exalts way more fun like Lunars and Dragonblodded, but other Exalts require work because of the nature of the system as a build-a-charm (like Sidereals)There's some things in it that I'd want to tweak or outright change, like Hazards or the specifics of the Intimacy system. I generally had a far better time playing with Qwixalted than 3e. Essence is, on balance, simpler to pick up and play and is still getting a boat load of content. What Essence doesn't have is a good defined balance between Terrestrials and Celestials and it lacks some of the great guidance QE does.It could use an editor, but it is in no way as bad as reading 3e in terms of accessibility. The guy is meant to be making a new one but that was a year or so ago we heard from him. I can't blame him, I actually made an entire conversion of all Secrets Charms for Sidereals from 3e to QE but paused midway through Endings.
>>98645513Oh and its implementation of Sorcery is, like every edition's implementation of Sorcery, likely divisive. tl;dr it's not the best at doing direct attacks unless you model spells as temporary weapons and there's certain terrestrial/celestial spells where it doesn't work with the cost limit on its face.
>>98645508Thanks, I'll look at it. Unfortunately I can't take Ipithymia as a friend/lover/concubine...
>>98636813Holy exploit Batman.
>>98643267>Infernal castes are based around space math so I imagine space used to be a thing before they left in 3e, otherwise the names make literally no sense. I don't think I like that but whatever.2e did show it in gunstar, but the most likely explanation for their new names, is that the devs pulled something to make them more of green solars.Originally, 3e Infernals castes had another naming scheme.

>>98646613Minion spells?Do you mean Charms or Sorcery Spells?
>>98646681Mostly spells since I'm giving them a small Beastmen army. As far I know, any of the good charm like splitting your character in 2 is beyond them at the moment.
>>98646613Force of Life's Summer and The Spawning of Monsters are like all of the hyped up parts of Lunar crossbreeding except actually good, if you have any amount of time to use them. Spawning of Monsters lets you make a couple of big guys, especially if you use Spawning of Monsters on Spawning of Monsters monsters over several generations to put together a true chimaera of a half-dozen or more of the worst things you can find (put a low pregnancy time creature in there somewhere early to speed up the process). Force of Life's Summer has good synergy with that strategy, so long as you don't mix sentient creatures into the monster it can speed up the process directly, and it also can make some pretty sick beast armies of its own since you can just find the biggest baddest monster egg you can and multiply it a couple times for a bunch of loyal rocs, tyrant lizards, whatever.

Huh, they don't actually explain what bordermarches, middlemarches and the Deep Wyld is in the 3E Core
>>98650626>Huh, they don't actually explain what bordermarches, middlemarches and the Deep Wyld is in the 3E CoreYou think that's bad? Wyld exposure has no mechanics other than charms that deal with it referencing Resolve all the way through to Sidereals.Lunars had no Wyld exposure mechanics. Fucking Lunars.
How would you feel about building custom charms or artifacts to enhance or build on cross-splat powers, like how Solars had The Time is Now in Lords of Creation letting you avoid demon summoning time restrictions, or how all celestials got the charm that discounts Terrestrial Martial Arts?e.g. a charm that lets you skip a shaping sorcery action to go straight to the cast sorcery action on a specific attack spell like Flight of the Brilliant Raptor. Another example might be a Solar with a charm building on Benediction of Archgenesis and Sharp Light of Judgement Stance that lets them unleash a grass-cutter AoE on everyone and everything in the area of the Benediction, but can only be activated if it's been at least a week since the Benediction and the Solar hasn't left the area - unending abundance and a sword to your neck both at once.

>>98652012>On that topic, if I look at Creation's map like pic related, where does the Wyld actually start? is is only found past the map edges or are there Wyld zones deeper in? If so, are those like unconnected dots with density increasing as you go towards the edges of the world, or are they more like tendrils reaching in from the outside? There's the main Wyld which is off the side of the map.The exact border fluctuates somewhat because the wards that used to hold a steady border got fucked up, or got swallowed by the Balor Crusade shrinking Creation. There are also pockets of the Wyld in Creation, everywhere except the Blessed Isle, a remnant of the Balor Crusade. No idea if they're more numerous or stronger the further you are from the Pole of Earth.>Also, where to the Elemental Poles lie any how do they interact with the Wyld? Are they still within Creation or at its very edge, surrounded by Deep Wyld and warping it towards their element or what? The Elemental Poles are in the Wyld proper, situated in the Deep Wyld. You go straight from the Deep Wyld and it's crazy fucked world to a place utterly dominated by its element, one the Wyld has no hold over. The only Pole not in the Wyld is the Pole of Earth, which instead serves as the lynchpin for Creation.
>>98652012>On that topic, if I look at Creation's map like pic related, where does the Wyld actually start?Depends on what you mean by start. It washes in and out irregularly, especially with wyld storms. Generally though it's understood that the edge of the map is where you go full bordermarches all the time.>is is only found past the map edges or are there Wyld zones deeper in?There are a bunch of wyld zones deeper in, leftovers from wyld storms and fae incursions and the Balorian Crusade. Even places like Nexus have whole districts that're on the bordermarch end of wyld-tainted if not outright being wyld zones like Firewander. The only place really free of Wyld zones is the Blessed Isle, because the Pillar of Earth stabilizes them out really hard and because the Inland Sea wasn't crossed in the Crusade as far as I remember.>If so, are those like unconnected dots with density increasing as you go towards the edges of the world, or are they more like tendrils reaching in from the outside? The former. Especially around demesnes, which the Fair Folk can take over and turn into freeholds where they can rejuvenate themselves (and also demesnes in general can be used to stave off calcification). There are also some splotches or more taken-over swathes like in Halta where the Fae incursions during the Crusade or after included moon bridges that can take you all the way from a freehold in Creation straight out to the Middlemarches in the Wyld, and there are a couple naturally occuring wyld phenomena that do something similar if the fae have used that as a launching point to take over nearby lands.>Also, where to the Elemental Poles lie any how do they interact with the Wyld?Off the edge, in the Deep Wyld. They used to be in Creation but no longer. They taint the Wyld in their colors, making the southern Wyld on fire and the Northern Wyld very cold. Elementals have to cross the Wyld to get to court.
>>98652058>Inland Sea wasn't crossed in the Crusade as far as I remember.I thought it was they got to the shores of the Isle, but got held off and then the Empress blew em upIt could also be differing edition lore

And like >>98652055 said there are isolated Wyld pockets scattered throughout Creation. Is a communal prayer pool a thing? I thought prayer only goes to a deity if they get a prayer directed at them or their domain (like a mortal praying to the "god of the river" if they don't know their name)
>>98657644Sure. Prayer just generically directed to Heaven is a thing with an actual impact, too. At least in 1E and 2E (don't remember if it's the same in 3E) it takes the form of Quintessence in Yu-Shan, with more specific worship taking the form of more valuable Ambrosia.
>>98621055is there a preexisting solar named darius? he's in one of the new novellas and the name feels familiar
>>98657725Yeah but a Cult is from mortals specifically dedicating worship towards a specific god. Storm mothers control specific parts of the oceans and extort tribute/sacrifices/prayer from those who cross/live in that part of the ocean, and it doesn't make sense for them for have a communal cult. If communal prayer pools are true then all gods of the same type should have huge cult numbers from them leeching off of others. Plus prayers primary purpose isn't to feed gods Essence and Willpower, or Quintessence/Ambrosia, it's to send a message to the god of a domain. Communal prayer towards Heaven works presumably because that's how Yu-Shan was designed.
>>98658119It's not about gods of same type leeching off each other, it's about worship directed to all gods of a given type being shared. There's no reason for, say river gods to have communal worship directed to them, because people generally don't pray to rivers in general but to tge god of a specific river. It makes perfect sense for sailors to not know the name and territory of every storm mother that might be relevant and to just propitiate storm mothers in general, however.
>>98658202>It makes perfect sense for sailors to not know the name and territory of every storm mother that might be relevant and to just propitiate storm mothers in general, however.Sailors, or ship captains/navigators, should absolutely know the gods of the territories they regularly sail through. Navigating willy-nilly is a great way to get killed.

>>98658623yes, but you better hope arcane destiny doesn't kick in during because then you become the sidereal that rapes gods
>>98658784>Ships on open ocean with premodern technology should generally not have accurate enough knowledge of their position to reliably determine which storm mother's territory they're currently in.I'll give you that, but a communal Cult still doesn't work given how prayers work in Exalted.I don't think I've ever seen a communal cult in the books mentioned, save for the Yu Shan collecting prayers addressed obliquely to the heavens. You could maybe look to the Syndics for why it's a bad idea, who are possibly fusing into a single god due to their worship by Whitewall.A Storm Mother who wants a cult looks to nearby human settlements in their domain, and can just appear before traveling ships to extract tribute from them.
>>98658784>Ships on open ocean with premodern technology should generally not have accurate enough knowledge of their position to reliably determine which storm mother's territory they're currently in.Those in the know (i.e. have Occult dots) should be able to discern the tells that give away which spirit's turf, if any, a ship is sailing through, in addition to magical trinkets and rituals that help map the ship's surroundings, chart a course and whatnot. >>98660978>The average ship is unlikely to have magical GPSLikely.>or an expert occultist on board. This I dispute. I never said every ship would have a dude with Occult 5 onboard, my point is that in a high fantasy setting with monsters and gods aplenty as well as all the other weirdness, the average ship is bound to have their navigator have some Occult dots, or hire an occultist to help with navigation.
Well Jadeborn ended up being a bunch of fucking nothing.Besides a better superpower system, its generic and doesn't actually fix much of the setting or ST problems Exalted has carried with itself for decades.Onyx Path are worthy successors of only caring about high concept, and not execution.Hopes up again for no reason.
