I'm a complete beginner to wargaming and have decided to try AoS Spearhead as a starting point. Which set would you recommend, ideally one that I can later expand with additional miniatures and transition into the full game?
>>98625707Ghur is a savannah
>>98625803Pick the one with the miniatures you like? I don't know what you like, anon, and I'm not building and painting it for you. They're all fine picks.
>>98625823aos is a competitive game >>98625803if you can find picrel SBGL went 4-0 with a list that is basically the spearheadx2 + vhordrai and Radukarthe current skeleton spearhead would work because the list ran 3 units of skeletons
>>98625841
>>98625819and it also has swamps, and it also has jungles, and it also has steppes, and it also has tundras, and so on and on
>>98625847>implying gw care do you actually pour over this maps thinking it matters?
>>98625819As you can see in Kruleboyz range with ther Savanahcaller Shamans
>>98622599Megas are still around for every faction, as are knights in 40k (for chaos and imperials). It's very much in gw's best interest that the 200+ dollar centrepiece remains available to as many customers as possible.I do have to say that a cogfort doesn't slot into many armies as easily as a mega or knight does, visually speaking. You have to do more work like ghoulchad.
>>98625875I'm just not going pretend that the things the multibillion dollars company gets wrong suddenly don't matter, to conveniently shield against the bad opinions towards their products.
>>98625819It *has* savannahs, it also has mountain ranges among other things
>>98625658>TQEither buy the gitmob spearhead or the sons of behemat one.
>>98625658TQ building chaos spawn for TOW. After I build it I’ll prolly go back and paint the last of my IJ minis
>>98626069Don't you want to warto for SoB' battletome?
>>98626120Why? I don’t think they change the spearheads for that, do they?
Bought some lizardmen from a guy on plebbit. It was a lot of skinks and saurus warriors. Some of the ones on 32mm bases look like this guy, looks too skinny and twinkish to be a normal saurus warrior but I've never seen a skink kit with a head like that. Anyone know what it's from?
>>98626195its from the old fb saraus. Back when they were being fed ozempic by the slaan.
>>98626138They do not, but they might make another discount box or another, more interesting spearhead.
>>98625953Nah. Allies sold but regiments allowed them to sell particularly high stocked items. There's no reason to keep SoB as allies around if you've already sold them. They're already clearing stock with this new army box.
>>98625707That's a gargant thing Mawtribes are rhinos and horned pitbulls Ironjawz are wyverns, pig-crocodiles, and pigs Kruleboyz are pitbulls and crocodiles Gloomspite are wolves
>>98626295Neither of those is a faction's "thing".
>TOW batreps getting 75k viewsSurprised me when I saw this. Didn't these guys used to do AoS? What happened? Does AoS have any big batrep channels?

What’s up with the early thread don’t we usually wait longer
Is there any art of troggoths with some manner of armor and or helmets
>>98626679I don't think so. Troggs aren't known for their fashion
>>98626637My bad, i forgot how dead this board was now
>>98626693It’s kinda like this on the weekend.
>>98626509What's surprising is 4th is tournament wank these guys eat up but TOW is more swingy narrative isn't it? No loss either way. I watched a few for AoS and they spent half of it trying to be funny making voices. The other half was just a top down view of circles.
>>98626679I thin they mostly sleep and hope some protective shit grows on top of them
>>98626684>>98626679Kruleboyz have some
>>98614045>There was a description in one of the WD's I believe that described the difference between how magic is harnessed between the two settings.does anyone have a pic of that ?
>>98626750>nose is above eyeswat
>>98626728For some that is the last thing they wanted
>>98626769yes
>>98626750I guess the scareshieldis "armour"
>>98626684rockguts literally have armour on their forearms and >>98626783 has a trophy hat
>>98626795and they have decorative stones strapped to their wrists
>>98626679>helmets>>98626804
>>98626711>TOW is more swingy narrative isn't it?TOW is more swingy and inherently narrative due to the more simulationist core rules but it's a very tactical game due to movement being the single most important aspect of every battle plan for every army.
>>98626195Aren't these just the 6th (?) edition models?
>>98626852Doesn't seem like it
>>98626804I wonder if they tie them on themselves or if the gits help them out
>>98626693>summer vacation ends>board immediately like 33% slowerHmmmmAll jokes aside it's usually a little slower on weekends anyway, half the people here are just posting from work
>>98627007>half the people here are just posting from workplease stop noticing
>>98626242>There's no reason to keep SoB as allies around if you've already sold them.Eh knights have been around since 2014 and they're also still available in non-knight armies. Megas and cogforts are fine. It's the smaller multi unit RoR's I would be more concerned about.
>>98627007It's more like 16% but yeah lol posting did tick up a little last month
>>98627747We used to be a proper boardthough I assume this is more or less a sidewite phenomenon?
>>98627786They're just too silly.
>>98625803> ideally one that I can later expand with additional miniatures and transition into the full game?this is all of them. they all serve as a good starting point to further grow into a proper army. most come with 1 hero to lead, 1 unit of troops, and then 1 unit of some kind of specialist or damage dealing elite guys like cavalry or monstrous infantry.as far as which to pick, this game generally has good-ish balance, enough that you can pick any army in the game and do well with it on the table. some armies have a steeper learning curve than others, but nothing is so difficult that a new player cant pick it up in a couple sessionsi would first recommend, as i think most people would, that you pick based off of your aesthetics and thematic preferences. which armies just have that cool factor for you? your going to be spending a lot of time building and painting them, and its also not uncommon for players to come up with little personalities, backstories and mid battle narrative for their heroes or units when they perform notable kills or objectives on the table, or die in a hilarious way. so connecting with the vibe of an army is perhaps more important than how good it is or what it does on the tablebut gameplay is also important, and liking or disliking the playstyle of an army can be make or break too. so is there a particular playstyle you gravitate towards perhaps in video games or rpgs or something? do you want to play the slow, tough brick shithouse that doesnt move when its hit? does teleporting and deception seem fun? lightning fast precision strikes and hit and run raids? walls of lockstep troops protecting a line of cannonades? a handful of huge bruisers clubbing 20 guys at a time like its dynasty warriors?with these two things, what you find cool and how you want to play, we can help narrow down your selection with a few recommendations.also worth knowing that most armies in the game can be played multiple ways.
Seems like Japan got their hands on the gacha boxes already.
>>98627766Yes but I think /tg/ seen some of the worst declineIIRC /vg/ and /x/ are the only boards that are actually up from where they were pre-pandemicYou can see data for all the boards here if you're interested; https://4stats.io/ 4plebs has better stats for /tg/ though since for some reason 4stats is missing a huge part of /tg/'s history
>>98626509Nobody wants to watch AoS batreps because 4th edition is boring to watch. The swinginess of TOW makes it the more interesting game to watch and play.
>>98627796Eh they're moving towers. You get exactly what you think of. I like em.
>>98627892Yes & I think they're silly for it.
>>98627914To each their own, I think they pretty in line with what one can expect in warhammer but I recognize that the line is somewhat arbitrary.
>>98627975i dont think a moving castle is particularly out there or unusal for a fantasy setting. thats a pretty boiler plate fantasy idea
>>98626728>>98626786>>98626783These are very cool. Any idea how strong they are?
>>98628018Even whfb had some descriptions of walking towers at some point. On top of the flying ones you saw in art.>>98628067Do you mean like in-game or from a lore perspective?
>>98628067Irl barnacles make cement like excretion to attach themselves. And they have the longest penis to body ratio among all animals
>>98627747>>98627007this makes sense I thought this place was moving crazy fast lately…
>>98627831I wouldn't say ALL of them serve as a good starting point, especially some of the newer ones. Like I don't think I'd recommend the new khorne one to a player just starting out unless he already decided he REALLY loves flesh hounds. Thematic army, but not so great as an entry box. Same goes for the new gloomspite spearhead if you don't care about the gitmob subfaction, there's a couple of cases like that. Also some are just kind of dogshit from a model pov, like the nurgling one.
>>98626786I hope Ironjawz one day get like a heavy armored Trog like the Isengard Troll
>>98628534As cool as that guy looks I don't know if it'd work within aos as troggoths' whole gimmick is their extreme natural durability
>>98628826What if the armor is more of a way to keep the Troggoth from being too strong? Maybe red hot/white hot armor that helps keep the Trog from regenerating, used as a living slave battering ram?
>>98628866Actually a sick idea anon I retract my statement
>>98628897You could have an Irongit on a platform on the Slave Trog that is similar to the Freeguild Ogor gunner that launches flaming arrows from a brazier partially also used to keep the Trog scorched and pissed off.
Shoutout to whoever recommended the storm host silver drybrush. Mini turned out how I wanted.
>>98628087Sorry I meant lore wise im curious how they compare to the other big guys >>98628364Oh…….
>>98629135If you mean troggs in general, they're mostly known for their insane regeneration, alongside their incredible stupidity. They're capable beasts of burden, and able to grow large and squash a lot of enemies who would dare bother them, but they're also liable to follow their appetites which often leads to them being captured and put to use. They're also seen as a delicacy by ogres, and duardin. I can imagine them being used for roles by non-destruction factions, I'm sure it's happened in lore, but I don't think it'll show up as such on the tabletop
Would the idea of a stormvermin turned rat ogre be possible in the lore? I was thinking of making a rat ogre with stormvermin colors. (Black fur and red armor with maybe tan cloth or black cloth)
>>98629330It's not something that's been established, but warhammer is about /yourdudes/ at its core. Considering Brood Terrors are Moulder skaven stitched into a larger beast in the hopes of controlling it, and rat ogres are, well, skaven and rats fused, it might be that your clan has a thing where they want to try merging loyal (for skaven) adult stormvermin instead hoping to fix the chronic stupidity problem rat ogres have. Only for the painful process to make them as stupid as they would be otherwise lol
>>98629330I'd say so, a master moulder could have 'rewarded' one by injecting it with some crazy warpstone steroids or something
>>98626759OP of that here. I've been trying so long to find the analogy. I can't remember if it was a WD or a Warcom article, but I swear to you I read it.
>>98626759>>98629445It's not exactly what I was talking about, but the wiki cites the Malign Sorcery book, page 6-7 for the following information.https://ageofsigmar.lexicanum.com/wiki/Magic
>>98629354Warhammer used to be about /yourdudes/. Only sgs games like HH and TOW retain that. In both AoS and 40k the room for /yourdudes/ has literally been written out of the game rules. You can't customize characters or units anymore. The focus in the army books is no longer on the generic broader faction, but increasingly on specific named characters. The presentation is less and less of a setting and more and more a narrative focused on named characters that are explicitly not /yourdudes/.This the one of the main divides between old Warhammer and new Warhammer, and both AoS and 40k fall firmly into the new Warhammer side of the spectrum.
So like, because of how insanely autistic GW has been about game seperation recently, it's inevitable the chaos chariot gets made TOW exclusive in time, right? That part seems pretty much without question, but what are they gonna do with the unit rules? You reckon they'll just get rid of it, or will they make a new kit?
>>98629520>Only sgs games like HH and TOW retain that*blocks your path*
>>98629524Custodes have been labelled as both HH and 40k. So maybe (probably not) GW is loosening on the single game autism. It would be cool to see stuff like Skaven and Lizardmen marked as for both games, along with Chaos sculpts in general.
>>98629528Named characters always existed, but TOW retains customization to make your dudes your dudes. Look at this list for example. These are ONLY the generic magic weapons available. This does not include the Cathay specific magic weapons, or other magic items like armors, talismans, banners etc etc.
>>98629538Oh, TOW/heresy customisation mogs AOS/40k (unless you use anvil of apotheosis, which is kino, but unfortunately hated by matchplay spergs)But in terms of 'fluff', named characters are far, far, FAR more important to the TOW books so far and obviously to heresy since it all orbits around primarchs. I mean I read a bit of the chaos warrior army book that came out, it's just jerking off the new chaos girlboss. Miao Ying showing up to save the empire. Etc
>>98629529It won’t happen just due to the nature of tow being a rank and flank game and Aos promoting its minatures to be more dynamic. You can’t have minis being dynamic and expect them to rank up flawlessly with those poses, yes some people have made it work with some Aos minis into tow but GW does not see that being possible for all of the line so it won’t entertain the possibility of cross compatible kits. Frankly I hope it stays that way, in fact I wish tow would have stayed 28mm heroic scale rather than 32mm true scale. Making the models bigger is really cumbersome for a rank and flank game. Anyways, back to the issue of designing something on squares to also be on rounds and vice versa. Squares don’t promote individuality, and when they try to, it’s always awkward and stiff. I won’t even bag on the new tow stuff, you simply have to look at the entire demon line back when they were expected to be shared between 40K and fantasy. The models are all awful because they’re in the compromise of being for fb and 40K, it wasn’t even the nature of the models having either subpar sculptors or limited tech. I think it’s not an exaggeration to say that post Aos all demons that were introduced were when they didn’t have to conform to rank and flank philosophy. Anyways the biggest tell that gw is never going to remove the idea of split ranges, is that they’re planning on remaking the rhino and some other space marines kits for 40K when HH already has done that.
>>98629538I don’t like the warhammer metric for what gives a game flavor. These games need more quirks, tow still doesn’t have much beyond its randomness in some* of its dice rolls.
>>98629780I will assume you don't actually know TOW rules so I will post some to show you that there is tons of flavor and quirks built into the rules of TOW. For example, the new miscast table.
>>98629780>>98629799Sorcerers Ruses
>>98629780>>98629804Sorc Ruses continued. I could go on and on but I won't spam. Just wanted to educated you a bit because I could tell from your post you don't actually know anything about TOW rules and the flavor baked into them.
>>98629726Kino
>>98629726god this is what we need more of>>98629780that image is depressing
>>98629799This is really cool, I wish we had some kind of system like this. Probably not good for comp fags but who cares about them.
>>98629799>>98629804>>98629810Yeah I already know about this, and the battlemarch tower thing too, the magic is definitely better than before the 1.5 update but it’s still not sufficient enough, miscasts should be more personalized by the lore, maybe even by race too. And whether or not an army doesn’t have a wizard should play should be put into consideration for the winds of magic as well. Idk, just compared to battletech tow doesn’t have it.
>>98625823>>98625841>>98627831>>98628526I don't really want to play demons or orcs. Aesthetically, I like the Gitz and the fire dwarfs, but from the answers here, it seems they're not the best choices for a beginner.I also really liked the lore of Flesh-Eater Courts, and I can find their set at a reasonable price. I also liked the Bloodcrave Hunt set, but unfortunately it's not currently available where I live.In general, what I'd like from the game is something that rewards me for using the right types of troops in the right situations and for creating synergies between units. It's hard to describe my other preferences, but I think I'd prefer an army with more specialized units rather than mostly universal, all-purpose soldiers.
>>98629882>In general, what I'd like from the game is something that rewards me for using the right types of troops in the right situationsHave you considered cities of Sigmar, that's literally what you're describing. Same with the synergies between units bit. They have a whole system where your heroes are basically pseudo commanders that when they provide commands to specific troops both units get a buff. So you typically want to have a wide variety of units and various heroes to match. On top of that you can get some real swingy bullshit if you utilize that properly. Unironically certain combos can be absolutely lethal to the armies you are fighting. Callis and Toll mixed with the Ven Denst mixes +1 damage on orders against any kind of wizard/priest mixed with Callis and Toll's ability to mark people giving attacks from them and their little crew double damage suddenly you're popping enemy centerpieces like a grape.Say you've got a gunline of fusileers (suprisingly tanky fusileers) say they get stuck in combat with some dickhead, if you've got Jorvan Kreel you can post the battle poof them 6 inches away from combat and set them back up to shoot again next turn. (On top of let's say you have the ogor commander you get bonus to hit too)
>>98629990>continuedyou have a wide variety of units, nothing is particularly "catch all" that all provide a solid role in the army but it's not like you necessarily NEED them all. ALSO THEY LOOK REALLY FUCKING GOOD (except Steelhelms who I'm not the biggest fan of but I think are relatively fine for just your basic jobbers). It's less "spam X guy to win" and more "have a tool for just about every situation" (unless GW fucks up again and makes the command corps busted, but they're not split off into weird individual pseudo heroes just like they did to the fuckin' Vargheist for FEC.)You get priests, wizards, foot heroes of all shapes and sizes, centerpieces, monster heroes, cavalry, artillery, ranged units, only thing they're missing if their own set of endless spells but honestly for what it's worth they have literally everything else you can imagine.
>>98628364The real fucked up thing is that they're crabs
>>98629990>>98630013I don't like my army looking californian with the demographics. I know I can paint them white but GW obnoxiously sculpted a lot of black characteristics on the faces and hair styles.
>>98630018literally just pick the other heads if that's a problem
>>98630018There are asians too.
>>98630037calm down anon, you're gonna scare him
>>98630018Paint them white and you have slavs for your army>HairHelmet.
>>98629990That sounds good, but I'm not sure I find the aesthetic very exciting. I'll check which sets are available in my region, but which one would be the better choice? As far as I know, this faction has several different sets. I'll take a look and decide whether I want to get into it or not.Are there any other factions with a similar playstyle that I should consider?
>>98630065Solid starting point... I mean, if you can find a cheap cities of ash half that has grenadiers as a nice unreinforcable unit, knights which are some decent frontliners, generic priest, and named guy. If you could get founding foray that shits amazing starting point, but if you're looking for spearheads either the OG one with the cav, marshal, steelhelms, and cannon. Otherwise, Fusil platoon ain't bad, I guess basically just not the Zenestra one since that feels like something you'd pick up when you have like everything else in the army.
>>98629524>given I believe for no reason that GW refuses to have lines cross... Who told you that? It's available for both which disproves it anyway. Daft.
>>98629000dirty down rust is your friend
I really like the look of Namarti, Can Idoneth run a mainly Trall/Reaver army with their footslogging support heroes or is eelspam the only viable build
>>98630370I mean you could, it wouldn't be particularly amazing but I imagine if you do literally ALL namarti you'd probably do pretty well. It's kinda like monstermash rules, if you go all into one sector you'll be unstoppable.
when are we finally going to see Malerion/ Malekith and Azyr?
>>98630049No that'll make him feel more at home, Cathay is based and redpilled remember.
>>98630381He's there right now, he's just invisible.
>>98630381>>98630385He's hiding behind the rock
>>98630381It's the dwarf edition elf boy
>>98630443Oh shit that reminds me, thank you anon for sending that little puffy cloud for Urak Tarr! Got it glued on today ,and picked up the 2 boxes of gun guys to try and kitbash the remaining arms on the leftover box of spear dudes I got.

>>98630455>dreads
>>98630458That's called koutun
CoS gacha preorders are up.
>>98630455when these dudes get repackaged into a single box and become a generic unit for the army
>>98630455Oh shit, Andalites
>>98630512And we still don't know who the mystery nigga is?
>>98629520There's a difference between appealing to /yourdudes/ in fluff and in rules. AoS is (currently) lacking a lot in terms of the latter (should just make the anvil of apotheosis part of standard play desu) but you really can't in good conscience say that aos doesn't promote /yourdudes/ in terms of fluff. That’s the whole point of aos, it's deliberately open as fuck (perhaps TOO open) to allow you to do basically whatever you want with your army. Also I really disagree with the named character focus, I don't think (lorewise at least) they're as dominant as you're making them out to be. Certainly when contrasted with apparent bastions of "old warhammer" in 30k (primarch telenovela) and tow (war of settra's fury, dawn of the storm dragon, razing of the westerland ... all very character heavy). Maybe it's because I play idk where our two named character are both literal footnotes in the battletome, but I'm really not feeling this character focus that much.Wholeheartedly agree on aos lacking customization options on the table but in terms of lore it's still encouraging of /yourdudes/, certainly not less than tow or 30k at least.>>98629524My guess is we get a new chaos chariot in 5th since StD are in the starter. Maybe darkoath themed to set it apart from the old one (which tow will presumably still use). Also will probably get a new chaos lord on foot too since that dude is also shared.
>>98630562Is there any greater demon character that actually does something?
>>98629882>I like gitz [...] but it seems they're not the best choice for a beginnerIf you can find their old spearhead box (the one with the squigs and troggoths) it's actually great; it gives you a smattering of units from three of the four major subdivisions of the army. Good variety in units to paint and play, none of them are too hard to paint as a newbie, and they're all good to great units in the actual game (except maybe the loonboss). The spearhead itself is also great in the spearhead gamemode itself. Would definitely recommend if you can find it around in a store or online somewhere. The new gits box is not bad, but it's very focused on specifically the wolf goblins, which kind of clash with the rest of the army visually and thematically. It sucks if you're into regular gloomspite because now you don't really have a starter box anymore. That being said, if you do like gitmob, it's also a pretty good box to pick up.I'd stay away from fire dwarfs for now, they're getting refreshed in like 3 months and the spearhead contains 2 full units of vulkites which are apparently not making the cut. Pretty scummy move on gw's part.>>98630370You're in luck anon, they just introduced a new character whose whole thing is seeing namarti as the natural evolution of the idoneth, and even supports them in revolts against their akhelian masters. Surely her warscroll ability supports the use of namarti in your army, which have historically been a very underpowered part of the idoneth roster. Surely. if you can't tell I'm very annoyed by mathaela buffing companion attacks, which ONLY akhelians and Isharran have
>>98630580kairos
>>98630586What did he personally do in the last 10 years?
>>98630584Well, that's a pretty good plan. Getting friendly with the eels so she can steal them from out under the akhelian nobility when the revolution comes, removing on of their main advantages against the namarti infantry.
>>98630614Brilliant
>>98630329hasn't been paying attention award
>>98630653source: I just made it up or some YouTuber told you
>>98630653I mean it *is* inconsistent. Custodes just had a major crossover release and iirc lots of the heresy knights are also fully supported in 40k, and then on the same hand a lot of the mechanicum or marine stuff isn't. It's weird. Aos and tow can share the chaos lord and chariot, but not say spider riders and a few dozen other kits.
>>98630584Counterpoint: namarti should have only companion attacks, same with skeletons and such. Also gits on wolves - companion tag on a rider and no companion tag on a wolf
>>98630706>namarti should have only companion attacksCompanion to what? They ride nothing, because animls hate them like they did that mutant guy from Dunwich Horror

>>98630706Idk about namarti and skellies but they really should've really given droggz the companion tag instead of jaggedsnarl. Would've been funny
>>98630995Genuinely what were they thinking with that stupid design? I can't wait for them to be squatted.
>>98630653no legitimate leaker has stated it. It is all speculation from that honestwargame guy who overstates his former connectionsthere are crossover models so it goes without saying that it isn't truthful
>>98630703>Aos and tow can share the chaos lord and chariotthey can't. there can be no crossover which is why AoS lost BoC and Dwarfs.
>>98631063Why is your taste so bad? Were you born with it or did you contract it later in life?

Just inconsistent.
>>98630552NTA but having rules support /yourdudes/ is more important than fluff. If we’re supposed to be playing a game then I want to see the effect of my customization on the tabletop. >>98631630Spearhead army or spearhead box? It would be kind of weird to have a Spearhead that's just one kit, to be fair, and I would hope they don't cost so much that a spearhead would be considered a discount. So what are the odds of beasts of chaos returning or getting new modes? I’d really be interested in getting them at some point. Also newfag question. How popular is spearhead and AOS in general. I went at my stores busiest time and my opponent and I were the only spearhead and AOS players. Everyone else was playing 2,000 point 40k and there was one game of killteam. My store also has dedicated spearhead/combat patrol nights so everyone playing might be going at that time.
>>98629882a neat way to visualize competetive armies is to go on https://listhammer.info/aos then create those armies in Tabletop Simualtor. I did this before buying my last army, making sure I had at least tried them in a TTS game and that I enjoyed to use their most competetive models. Boxart is a trap, and a lot of armies got a high mental load with all their synergies, which will become very evident once you try them out on TTS.
Megagargs are cool.
I wish there was a way to make gits lean harder on the knight theme, at least rules wise. I thought nothing but ill of greenskins until I saw them and thought how organic the two things were.
>>98631808>So what are the odds of beasts of chaos returning or getting new modes0% in AoS100% in TOW
>>98631468I think it could use a splash of colour yeah good idea anon
>>98631837I feel like they have less of a chance of getting anything meaningfully new in TOW as opposed to just getting made into "Wild Clans" for Destro or "Freak Mutant Monsters" for AOS
>>98631808they might spiritually return as a subfaction for Slaves to Darkness. Where they belong.
>>98631852You can feel whatever you want but BoC are a core faction in TOW and those get new miniatures sooner or later.
>>98631808There was a rumour a couple of months ago that beastmen (or at least something kind of like beastmen) would be in the 5th edition starter set, but that turned out to be bogus. I don't think they're coming back to aos any time soon, sorry. At least not as an army. For new models it's a bit more interesting because while beastmen as a separate thihg aren't supported anymore, the various god specific ones are. I think we can expect khornegors in the not-so-distant future to round out the collection.>how popular is aos/spearheadCan vary a lot from region to region, in my experience even from town to town. If your store has a dedicated spearhead night (nobody plays combat patrol) it means there's probably a decent community, just concentrated on that specific timeslot.
>>98631866I'm sure they'll get another generic foot hero at some point just like everyone else.
>>98631910Oddly enough, it's the one thing they don't really need right now. Plastic Shamans and the plastic BeastLord from AoS already exist. Plastic Minotaur might be nice to have, I guess. Or maybe a Shaggoth, but neither of those are basic core options.

I haven't been paying attention) when an AOS total war could just be set in one realm or one continent of one realm, since it's not like TWW covers the whole warhammer world even after 3 games, and we literally have total war games where there are several seperate maps you travel between via sea lanes, you reskin a sea lane and you have a realmgate, it's that simple (Not that the people saying this shit have ever played another total war game)

So all the other shit is going to be new units for an already bloated army? I guess there was that old boole rumour about a chaos dragon/gargant/manticore that everyone assumed was for tow, but I suppose could be (partly?) about aos instead. Still, only really the manticore would fit into a starter set, the rest would all have to be infantry. Second wave for darkoath maybe? If they really wanted a StD starter box they should've done so in 3rd with new refreshed warriors etc. And not with stormcast, but with CoS. That way you have the classic "big elite armoured guys" vs "horde of smaller guys" launch box matchup, but this time the good guys are the horse faction and the bad guys the elite. I want them to retcon the scenario, but still have it end exactly the same way, into aos (am also an aos fan), because it would make the most annoying fantasy fans extremely madtards who are like "heh, they're gonna squat aos any day now!" don't seem to understand how tow is just to snatch nostalgiabux
>>98633675>TOWs release schedule really is a depressing thing.I like it. Not having to worry about constantly being expected to buy new sculpts or campaign books or whatever GW puts out, having classic miniatures that look lovely and have stood the test of time is charming.
>>98633710All shitposting aside it is kind of funny how little the end times actually matter to AoS, aside from of course the main idea of chaos destroying the world. Most of the specifics really don't matter in the slightest, except for I guess the stuff with slaanesh and the elves which has pretty major implications for the many aos elf armies.Honestly if gw wanted to they could easily retcon the end times and have all the relevant stuff just occur in the age of chaos instead. Barely anything would have to actually change.
>>98633794I prefer something like Endhammer to the end times. Stuff like Vlad being an elector count would be neat to see expanded on

>>98633727>having classic miniatures that look lovely and have stood the test of time is charming. There are a lot of nice old kits, but I have a big problem with having a range with a ton of stuff from different times. I would rather have a range entirely from the 90s than a hodgepodge where my dwarf hero is a soulful oldchad but has to be surrounded by 8th slopdorfsAnd of course, GW prices it like they're modern kits, and the modern kits they do make are monopose and don't include all the necessary weapons
>>98633805>>98633794I would really like some of the more obviously rushed stuff like Greasus eating shit so unceremoniously to be retconned and redone but otherwise the ET as a concept as a whole is pretty fun
All memes aside I genuinely think idoneth has the most beautiful armor design I’ve seen in warhammer.
>>98634050I think the eidolon is pure sex 10/10 but some of the other designs (like for example the soulrender) I'm not the biggest fan of.
>>98632088I know GW has their own unique exchange rate, what's 245 euros in USD as GW sees it?
>>98634050Idoneth in general is honestly one of my favorite things in the fantasy genre period. They perfectly encapsulate that Warhammer weirdness and creativity that sets it apart from everything else. I honestly wish they did more with the transportable ocean thing. Enemies should be drowning or struggling to ‘swim’ through the air whenever it’s brought along.
>>98634246I want to see the aether-tide under the Bad Moon. Just absolutely fuck some poor settlement up when they get caught between that shit
>>98634243It's bad
>>98634246I would MUCH rather have them get rid of tides as buffs for you and make them a series of debuffs to the enemy. Almost like a dArK miRrOr of LRL's runes. I hate that so much of the army's power budget is locked into the turn/step 3 of the tides that almost no one uses because cycling teleports and -1 hit/rend, and run/shoot/charge is so much better than the obviously telegraphed fights first(YOUR TURN ONLY NOW) and crit mortals that is only good with namarti lists since attack counts on Akhelians are low.
>>98634269oof. I actually really wanted that boxed gameGuess I'll see if it's available at a reasonable price on Amazon after release
FANTASTIC NEWS, per the other thread I've got my helsmiths and I'm doing some snipping now. Yes in fact you can take the generic chorf infantry and slap the leftover arms onto the normal torsos.I dunno how much you're feasibly saving since it's basically "buy 3 kits get 4" Ork boyz type bullshit BUT for anyone doing helsmiths it's a solid way to get more ranged dudes. Unfortunately I gotta wait until Tuesday to get my new bottle of glue since my other one has been used up.
>>98634050i like it because its this perfect mix of beaty and sinister, without going over the top capital letters EVIL like dark elfs did. like, the eidolon or the akhelians look genuinely heroic, but then you get some of the thralls with their collars and their support characters have more hooked barbs and lures and it has a more cruel streak, but without being outright villainous. its probably one of the best examples of a society gone bad that still views itself as the triumphant heroes of the story.
>>98634291beauty and sinister*
>>98632702
>>98634246They're so cool. Just everything about the concept is objectively awesome and it's ironic because they're probably the weirdest army and easily one of the coolest, and I've never heard complaints about them when people have gone "AOS is too weird!!!">>98634270Only appropriate that teclis' misbegotten children are given shitty rules just like his beloved elf cocaine lovers get the best in the game. And it's appropriate because LRL were also jervis johnson's favourite army
>>98634471And me in the middle playing both.
>>98634074I see wavechad, namarti, tidecaster, and the guy with the octopus, and think "How the fuck did these guys not get two huge waves (heh) and LRL did". I know GW makes models on a longer production scale than the two LRL waves so it's not like reception will have impacted them much but LRL seem way more contentious with how people talk about their aesthetics vs the general love for IDK
>>98634493>How the fuck did these guys not get two huge waves (heh) and LRL didBecause LRL didn't get two huge waves. They had their launch split. It was 7 months between the initial launch half and the BR Teclis half Sept 2020 and April 2021, respectively. They did have a 3 month delay between the launch box and first half. IDK are unpopular for being a bit harder to paint and store/transport, limited number of kits, and also the rules being unfriendly to lower skilled players.
>>98634524>Limited number of kitsWell we know how to fix that. I would also say having painted namarti and vanari (the spear ones), namarti are easier to paint. Both are very difficult though>RulesGW barely understands what they're doing most of the time with these, it's bizarre. At least IDK gets thematic rules. Khorne is popular despite very unfriendly rules that also don't fit
>>98634552Funny. I found the namarti harder because of their more elaborate trim designs. IDK in general felt harder than what I've done in LRL. LRL is just time consuming for me.
Does distinction Order/Chaos/Death/Destruction mean anything anymore?
>>98634871Yes?
>>98634871Where are you even going with that train of thought?
>>98634871Yes, most RoRs are GA locked
>>98632977nta but could be a japanese game where people from a town are turning into fish/sealife hybrids.

>>98632977>umm actually, I decide what is officially silent hill! suer you do pal
>>98632934New chaos warriors New spawnForsaken Chariots
>>98635084Well if a game doesn't feature Silent Hill, it's probably not a real Silent Hill game
>500 aud for the giant boxlmao
>>98633404It's a shame TWW is the only non-flop they've done since three kingdoms, because I played Pharaoh and it's actually so much better as a game it's crazy. Free DLC was way better than paid warhammer shit
BASTIAN BROS...
>>98635146Nobody knows how much kangooru bucks are worth
>>98635241that's a black man's nose unless he's Philippino or something
>>98632977It shares the drugs, otherworld, trauma, etc but the cult is different. SH4 and 3 subverted it first anyway, but I'm guessing you don't count those either.
Anybody got an epub/pdf of Blood of the Godeater? I'd like to do a bit of light reading.
Did they really Squat Beastmen?I don't pay attention to AOS at all.How the fuck did they justify that?Almighty shrug of the narrator?Wasn't that long ago there was an event themed around them.Did enough people play AOS beastmen to even care? Was it ultimately just a result of Beastmen being too inherently rapey and kinda generic/directly lifted from Runequest at last?Either way, RIP Beastbros.
>>98635550Beastman rape has always been massively overstated by fans, just like Slaanesh rape. It has been mentioned but only a few times in lore like 20+ years ago and at worst alluded to since then. Beastmen herds still exist in the fluff but as a faction they aren't playable because of GW's gay new "no models that overlap settings" thing. Only a few months ago a new beastman kit came out, pestigors, for AOS
>>98635550Beastmen didn't just disappear, they were victims of a genocidal campaign in an era of Chaos ascendency. They survive in isolated corners of the realms and their main narrative hook persists. Beastmen were the main antagonists of the Thondia book, which ended on a cliffhanger. The sequel was scrapped. >Was it ultimately just a result of Beastmen being too inherently rapey and kinda generic/directly lifted from Runequest at last? They weren't really rapey at all but no, if anything the Gavespawn plot suggests if they do return it'll be at their most Broo-like since they first appeared in Warhammer
>>98635563>no models that overlap settingsdoes this mean they're squatting chaos chariots?
>>98626195Back in the day we put up with them because they were in the Best start collecting box
>>98635574Nah, I exclusively ran guard with that one battalion to buff them because these guys looked like shit
>>98635573Almost definitely. Hopefully they replace them, but you never know with GW, they didn't replace warshrines.
>>98634471>>98634493I personally love idoneth and think they have probably the most compelling basic "hook" of any faction in warhammer, they're great. But I do think their core concept of "flying-but-not-really sea creatures" is a bridge too far for some people. Personally I don't mind, but it's one of those polarizing armies I think.>>98634524I agree, but their launch was still one of the biggest in the game. Idoneth launched with 12 kits (including terrain), while lumineth first wave was 10 kits and the second 11. (Also including terrain + endless spell box). That’s more or just twice the initial idoneth release, back to back
>>98635615I think darkoath chariots are more likely given that 2nd edition cultist chariot army
Fyreslayer faction pack removed from the webstore, we should be getting close to a reveal. No clue when the next show is though>>98635573Almost certainly due for a refresh in 5th yes
Is it true that the idoneth book isn’t consistent to their lore

>>98635894>Any target can choose to roll a D3 and, on a 2+, inflict that much mortal damage to a unit they’re in combat withhow flavourful and unique
>>98635881You mean the old novel, where the guy claims to be akhelian for generations? That's unlikeky, but not impossible
>>98635881welcome to black library books
>>98635881It's close enough that most inconsistencies can be chalked up to local culture.
>>98635894
>>98635881Yeah there's some things that don't quite match up, primarily in relation to how namarti are treated and the main plot revolving around pretty standard monarchical inheritance etc, when that's not really a thing in idoneth society (akhelian "kings" are military commanders).
>>98635899i've been told that tomes have been getting better writing, surely 5e will be peak battle tomes.
>>98635921hahaha their stand in circle score just went down to 1!
>>98635881Much like how Teclis doesn't love the Idoneth GW doesn't love them either
>>98635894If you are rolling 4 dice for mortals there is around 52% chance that you wiff it. I wonder what do you have to give up to "prep". If it is just cutting your movement then I like it. I also don't see much use in adding more units just to roll d3 to maybe roll d3, since it could just shut down your big hit.If there is a bf or a warscroll that lets you hit two slams in one go I might just buy that Mega vs Mega box
>>98635848Those guys look awesome, can you provide a solo shot of the cannon?
>>98636197You probably have to give up movement, charge and fighting to retard smash with Mega.
>City of Ash exceeded expectations so Brawlers of Behemat will be produced at higher quantities Are GW retarded or do they really think Cogforts were popular just because they were mercenaries?
>>98632022Got some friends who are thnking about picking up the Brawlers box to get a big boy each. If I wanted to grab the terrain from the set, how much do you think that's worth realistically?
>>98636241>GW mass producing good value discount box What's the issue?
>>98636251Probably the same as spearhead terrain
>>98635899Holy fuck I’m so ready for 4E to die. 5E could end up being worse but the bar is so damn low
>>98636274But don't you understand 4E is the most competitive edition yet!
>>98636291it's true, honest wargamer rob said stats are up. More people are playing comp events in 4th ed than any prior. AoS has never been more popular
>>98636252Because my army is next and it'll be a scarce fomo to course correct for this gargant flop
>>98636274Best can hope for now is GW implosion. The 40k wank is only getting stronger, look at the space marine codex handling vs their handling of AoS's 10th anniversary. We're getting another half ass uninspired relaunch of the game to make the game more like 40k. There's no creative vision attached to this, it's pure slop. The anons that defend the state of AoS at this point don't realize the game they loved 5 years ago already turned into a husk a few years ago.
>>98636324>The 40k wank is only getting stronger, look at the space marine codex handlingAm I supposed to notice anything other than it feeling half assed?
>>98635881I don’t see how it isn’t >>98635084He’s right though it pretty clearly isn’t
WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE NEW SERAPHON MODELS
>>98632384Sorry but Valrak has recently informed me that it is happening
>>98635376a lot of asians have avocado noses like that I’ve started to notice…
>>98636295Rob isn't lying about the number of events but he's not really reporting other stats like the consistent downtown of attendance in events of 50+ people or taking a statistical look at content creator and views of AoS in the last view years. He doesn't have much incentive to because it's his livelihood to encourage new players to pick up the game.
>>98636368Didn’t he start including smaller events so he could inflate the total number of events he reported?
>>98636415I dont think he includes spearhead tournies if thats what you mean.
>>98636415If I remember right he used to exclusively report GT's and not RTT's because he claimed RTT's skew the dataset he's trying to represent. He also used to share the database and have an Access front end on his website, and do more meaningful in-depth analysis on army stats. You can still see a lot of data on aos-events still.I have to imagine on his twitch stream or behind his youtube persona he probably dislikes the current state of the game immensely. His youtube persona has always been a piss take.
