Blightkings were fun before the refresh, but for an actual AOS native kit, the Pusgoyles are a close second. The wings are gonna fucking break no matter what though dawg. sylvaneths revenants are also quite fun to assemble.

It's 40k, but the entire range of the Dark Eldar Kabalite/Wych stuff. They've got dynamic enough posing with effortless kitbashing compatibility between the kits. You can slap Scourge guns on Kabalites, Wych weapons on Kabalites, Reaver arms on Wyches, Reaver Helmets on an Archon, Wych Torsos on Kabalites, Kabalite torsos on Wych legs with a Scourge head, etc. The possibilities are nearly endless and should've been the gold standard for infantry kit design going forward. They're selectively bringing some of it back but many armies will still have to deal with gluing half a shoulder and torso to a third of a leg bit or something like that.

Iirc grrm wrote all the mythic past lore for that game so I assume it's a more direct moorcockian influence. Martin's work is full of references, there's like 3 different elric clones in asoiaf alone. Not to mention valyria being essentially melnibone 2.0.
>>98648687
Eh idk anon, a mancrusher is more than twice the size of mollog, keep in mind the mancrusher has a somewhat leaning pose so he's even bigger than he appears here. And since miniatures are of course 3d, the difference in sprue space is bigger than you'd think just based on this alone too. AND on top of that, how the fuck would you get his base size to work (which is included on the sprue too by the way).
Plus y'know a new mancrusher without any options would just fucking suck too.
The only way I could see this working is if they downsize a mancrusher to like gate gargant level, which wouldn't be too bad of an idea in a vacuum (so we get 3 distinct giant sizes in SoB) but I still think underworlds would be a terrible way to go about it because of the customization problem mentioned above.
*if* SoB ever appears in an UW warband it should be exodia style, have his arms and legs all be separate miniatures (like e.g. the foot of gork). Essentially twister the warband.
>>
>>98648825
>have his arms and legs all be separate miniatures (like e.g. the foot of gork). Essentially twister the warband.
An incredible idea, if the suits could stomach such a deviation from a standard model kit
>>
>>98648762
I keep forgetting blightlords didn't come out with blight kings but a couple years after.
I nominate picrel for nicest AoS kit the way everything fits together. Hard to do with more organic models.
>>98648843
I like to think they have some leeway because it's underworlds.

>Can't use the monster rider units.
Kragnos list love to run monster only lists.
>Gameplay wise the army is bad
Kruleboyz are the 3rd most army with 5 wins in Bo5s currently. Both monster mash & regular fist armies are actually placing really well rn.
>Cringe ass nay nay baby goblins
The majority of lists don't play them. Like at most they are screens.

You can make it something more conventional by abusing magic
>actually the 4 limbs aren't attached to a body over the board but are semicorporeal manifestations
>because the witch giant cursed a megagarg to extreme smallness/a creeper found an artifact that would grant him greatness, if he knew how to use it
and then players can ignore the premise and paint the parts as if they were flesh and bone and belonged to a giant over the board anyway
>>
>>98648806
Good choice. Totally understandable. For me it’s the Haemonculi and pain engines.
>>98648825
>grrm wrote all the mythic past lore for that game so I assume it's a more direct moorcockian influence
We don’t actually know the extent of what he contributed to the game pretty sure so its hard to say for sure but there’s a lot of obvious stuff that shines through because of his love for certain tropes (not always for the best imo).

I think it would be cool if the Idoneth started fielding prehistoric marine life too. Bring out the Liopleurodons and Mosasaurs. Go balls to the wall with the ocean stuff.
>>
>>98649106
look at how efficient the new sprue is and UW would streamline that and remove options. They could totally fit a Mancrusher in.
I'd welcome it as a new warscroll or just a legends teaser for an upcoming full kit, it wouldn't be my ideal route BUT it's possible and GW might just do that instead.
>>
>>98649100
Of course, but two of those sprues are not going to be able to make a mancrusher unless you size em down significantly. Like I said, the mancrusher is more than twice as big in just height. The base alone would be half a sprue, and again, no real room for options which would fucking suck on a giant kit (if it indeed were meant to replace the mancrusher in actual AoS)
>>
>>98649131
Mollog + legs that would fit on the sprue is CoS Gargant sized minimum what're you smoking
>>
>>98649124
They can't have dinosaur-adjacent things because of lizardmen.

They can have placoderms though.
>>
>>98649142
I don't think that's a limitation. It's not like the Seraphon are ever doing anything sea related.
>>
if gw wanted to replace the mancrusher it would've happened this edition. mancrusher is safe for another two editions minimum
>>
>>98649141
Well CoS sized gargant is a different question, I think they'd be able to make that one fit just about.
But regular mancrusher size absolutely not, let's be generous and say that mollog himself occupies 1 UW sprue (it's probably more like 115-120% eyeballing it, including the base), you're absolutely going to need more than two mollogs to do a mancrusher sized giant. (And again, that'd be without options)
Besides, a singular giant would suck to play with in the actual underworlds game, and it does seem to me that warbands are first and foremost designed for uw with little to no care about how the units might translate into aos proper.
>>
>>98648721
Scourge Corsairs, they got me into AoS. I liked the wanderer prince, I liked the outriders, but those infantry sold me on the setting. The endless amounts of bits and the fact they looked good was incredible. Want to make your freeguild guard look more like pirates? Keep give them some leftover weapons and have the rest of the swords be machetes.

And before you ask; I've pressed them into Wildecorps as the 'standard' units with their crossbows. Can't do fucking anything with deepstriking 30 skirmisher units but at least it's not Once Per Army Per Turn.
>>

If the new (a)elves are anything like the quest designs then itd probably make sense. Maybe it’s just me but the two aesthetics they have are a bit cohesive, but maybe I’ve just consumed too much high fantasy stuff.
>>
>>98649179
A UW sprue is >>98649129 half of that sprue which is basically more than a full Boss-Stomper which is bigger than a Mancrusher.
If it's push fit, they'd reduce details for fewer parts, remove options, etc. It would definitely fit.
It's delusional to think Mancrushers will remain on ovals even when everything else is rounds now.
>>
>>98649129
anyone who doubts that the new midcrushers are going to replace the old minicrushers eventually should look no further than the fact that the new ones have several weapons that are litereally identical to the minicrushers kit, like the tombstone club and the club of swords. not like kind of similar, identical. which is not something you'd do in an army with 4 kits if you expected all of them to stick around
>>
I think I would like the Idoneth to get one more troop or Calvary unit before I buy into their faction. Eels and Sharks are cool, but I want crab riders, manta ray riders, and whale riders. I think that one model where the guy is riding a mythical sea monster is a waste of a model spot.

>>
>>98649383
>an uw sprue is half of that sprue
Is it?
Look man I see mollog taking up a full UW sprue, a mancrusher is more than twice the height of mollog, simple as.
Losing the oval base would only increase the footpront as long as they don't dip beneath 60, for comparison stompers are on 80mms. So are the significantly smaller gate gargants.
Again, a mancrusher would also be a retarded inclusion in the actual underworlds game.
They're not doing a mancrusher refresh via underworlds lol.
>>
>>98649124
They have a lot of options with just modern ocean stuff (do they even have any jellyfish or anemones or something) but yeah the amount of units they could use is pretty high if you dig that far back
>>
>>98649283
Could be pleasant, but it'd more likely be idk getting souped into unloved elves.

>>
>>98648485

Everyone makes teeth from scraps of greenstuff. You just roll little balls into sausages and shape. Cut or sand when dry (if you add miliput) for more precise forms.
The problem is putting them in. Drill a hole, place some greenstuff inside to embed it, insert the tooth and fiddle endlessly to get the shape right. After it has cured, put some greenstuff around to sculpt gums wrapping around the tooth

>>98651611
ok well assuming you aren't, no, i don't think it'll get more stuff. gw has this weird tendency to make actually quite interesting or fun side games which are only sold in one box and then never addressed again. they did it for 40k a few times with this game's spiritual predecessor, where you got two knights in a box and fought, it had a battletech inspired aiming system where going for center mass was most reliable because you had a weapon spread chart and such, it was neat, but they never added future knights to it or anything

Only if it's the end of edition campaign which is going to be pure slop but I want to see if there is a new arkhan.

Given the rumors of 3 books I'm going to say they're going to get sales out of khalazid holds and seraphon before they announce the eoe campaign early next year. They probably don't want to risk scaring potential buyers for a wait and see approach when it comes to the games setting revamp and whatever that entails.
>>
>>98652149
Isn't Arkhan still dead in the void?
>>
>>98652158
Yup gw likes to foreshadow their future products in their brochures they write. Or if something inconvenient happens they'll just kill them off screen like beastman or send them to the farm like sancrosanct.
>>

Looks like there's a once per turn army, with a random roll attached to maybe allow one giant per turn to fly, maybe. So totally fine.

For real though, looking at those army abilities are making me angry, and I don't even care about SoB much, it's just pure 4E shittery.
>>
>>98653115
I genuinely despise 4e's obsession with making so many abilities contingent on a die roll to actually function. Because apparently it's way too broken to just have things work consistently, you NEED to have the chance for your army/unit abilities to do literally nothing for an entire game.
And the weirdest part is, basically everything has this problem, so it's not a case of "Well if we got rid of it, it'd make X army/unit disproportionately strong" since getting rid of it would buff everything roughly equally.
>>
>>98653115
>>98653136
isn't the "on a 4+", on the total 3d6 roll? meaning it's not going off only in the case of triple 1s?

I feel like it wouldn’t be so hard to write the tome with more flavorful games in mind and simply label rules updates as being for tournament play. I believe they would need to explicitly make that distinction to have fun books and “balanced” digital rules for tournamentfags, otherwise rules writers will be too timid to do something interesting as the baseline.

>>
>>98654595
Uhh you gonna play with blank minis?
>>
>>98654613
Mostly just what I've already got from 3e and thousand sons in Tzaangors' case. The only thing I'd have to proxy is the stormcast chariot for Yndrasta's team.
>>
>>98654619
Then it'd make sense to get an army fitting what you already got.
>>
>>98654595
If you already have it painted, likely bloodwind legion. If not I would just dig out either of the skaven spearheads.
>>
Speaking of spearheads, you guys figure they'll do a cull at some point (probably once 5th rolls around)?
Bit of a conundrum because I feel like one of the strengths of spearhead is that it allows you to dip your toes into an army that you otherwise wouldn't collect, but can still play with via this gamemode. Like I don't like tzeentch enough to start a whole 2k army, but a single €120 box of tzaangors is a lot more appealing. But that does mean that removing the spearhead rules for this box is going to sting even more for those people, because now you're left with 4 units you don't have a rule for. On the other hand, one of spearhead's strengths is good balance (relative anyway), and the more of them you add the harder that becomes to maintain. Add on top of that GW's desire for a product cycle (see kill team) it does lend me to have a somewhat cynical view here.
There's a couple of spearheads out with culled units (dok, ogres) too at this point, which I don't see surviving long.
There's two possible solutions here, though unfortunately I think neither is very likely.
First is the easiest (and least effective) one, just bring back the ally system instead of curated RoR's, this would at least allow you to run your spearhead units in your other armies. Doesn't address the spearhead issue itself though.
Second option is introducing custom spearheads, something like battle march where you essentially build a ~650 point army with additional restrictions. Gw could still bring out bespoke discount boxes but they wouldn't be the only way to play the gamemode. This would significantly alter the core idea of spearhead though, with both pros and cons, but it's probably a bit too drastic of a change for gw.
>>
>>98654767
I think TOW might be seen by James as their ‘crunchy’ game and AoS the ‘accessible’ game. As such I can see spearhead remaining, but not custom ones. If anything happens the older spearheads will be left to wither or updated via WD

>>
>>98654767
GW can just keep rules around for older spearheads that aren't for sale anymore, it's what they've long done for both AoS and 40K.

A spearhead is just a predetermined selection of models, unless some of the models are squatted the discount box not being around is at worst a minor inconvenience.
>>
>>98654767
They haven't even done that for 40k and its by far the most ignored part of 11th. So nah. Even speaerheads with the squatted stuff has stuck around, and probably still will, they'll likely just get powercrept eventually where you wouldnt want to run them. I could see them making spearhead incorporate an optional narrative thing that encourages you to play into a full army later on, but aside from that I just think spearhead will be more of the same.
>>
>>98654789

Super-Isolationist race aligned with destruction that figured out how to use the fear of other races to distort local space and create localized sub-realms of nightmares (Essentially areas in the realms that are bigger on the inside and extra shitty), among other effects.
Have an EXTREMELY strong anti-chaos bent due to past grievances, and have some weapons and magics that can directly damage souls as a way of denying chaos what it wants (and also keep daemons from respawning), though their general demeanor keeps them allying from the races of Order.
And to be honest, I'd just rework how their reproduction works altogether and make it so they live in clans that either have a couple of strong female spellcasters in charge, a decent amount of martially-inclined males, and the normal warrors and shearls being infertile, or clans led by a handful of strong, martially inclined males, a decent amount of female spellcasters, and the bulk being sterile warriors and shearls. Their fucked up gender ratios and reproduction is an artifact of when they used to be enslaved by chaos, with chaos probably being responsible for the problem AND offering the 'solution'

desu I feel like sons rules I've seen are more soulful than that writer's usual output, but his design sucks because it's always rolls behind rolls or restrictions for meager payoffs.

This is slightly better than his spite tome he wrote for NH & OBR that basically took shit away without replacing it with anything and didn't even compensate with points.

I feel for people who bought into gargants who wanted to play their 4 dudes and smash shit.

100% sure this guy wrote helsmith, khorne, sylvaneth, obr, nh, parts of soulblight and parts of the sce book. His style is so shitty it's super obvious when he writes a scroll because it has non sensical math behind it and the synergies are always 3+ rolls. It's literally like they were a down a designer and brought in someone from the 40k team who doesn't play and just looked at the model, and wrote the rules on a napkin.

The shit part is that Matt Rose is not on the team anymore so it's gonna be this guy for a good portion of 5e tomes as well.
>>
>>98655330
Thanks. It's something I've mulled over a few times before, so that's why it's rather longer than others. I also forgot to note that they're extremely good at not being seen if they don't want to, to the point that among the civilized parts of the realms (And some uncivilized) they're viewed as a sort of cryptid. Specifically one that no one can quite fully agree on how they look since they'd naturally have a small cadre of nightmare beasties that they march to war with. Like Nuckalevees.

I've always thought they needed an equivalent of the Nuckelavee as a centerpiece model if they had an AoS army
>>
>>98655344
Like, to a degree I can see cutting things from scrolls in most books. After all, when you've got a bunch of different units on the table having each unit only have one or two things it can do REALLY streamlines things and minimizes reference bouncing. But this is an army where the average army is literally 4 big fucks. They can both afford to have a lot of abilities on their scrolls and DESERVE a lot of abilities on their scrolls.
>>
>>98655378
I would actually have Nuckaleavee be the cav for the faction, with the normal Fimir mostly being footsloggers and them MAYBE getting a couple of chariots or a guy on some sort of magical construct (Like a special menhir that does... something wizard-y).

>>98655133

the Nuckelavee is supposed to be huge and spread plagues though, it'd be pretty lame to reduce it like that, when the regular version is already so badass. Usually in warhammer it's the other way around.

the chariots and menhirs sound cool though.

Any idea how well I could translate the dick iron dwarf schemes over to helsmiths? I feel like standard Dark Iron shit is basically generic armor and very straight forward while helsmiths feel much more opulent

For all the faults of AoS' storytelling it's been really fun seeing the evolution of gargants over the years, they've gone from solo drunken losers to seemingly on the cusp of forming a kind of society. It feels like the inverse of the ogors where their culture is slowly degrading as they give into maw worship

NTA but Dark Iron Chorfs look as good as I imagined they would.
>>
After painting 20 slayers for my WHFB/TOW Dwarf army, I felt a deep desire to play my Fyreslayers. Managed to schedule a Spearhead game with a m8 at the LGS and had a pretty damn good time. Opponent brought Chorfs and after a fun game, the Fyreslayers came out ahead. The Throwing Axes managed to decimate his Dominator and the Hearthguard and Battlesmith deleted his artillery almost immediately. The rules of Fyreslayers have been dumbed down compared to when I was playing them multiple times weekly back between their launch and mid-2e, but they still are a fun army, imo. Sadly I did not think to take pictures and by the time I did we both had packed up and were at the bar.
>>
>>98657845
How exactly are they supposed to handle a gargant charge in lore? Like I'm not going to fault anyone for losing discipline when 800 tonnes of drunken retard sprints towards them.

What the actual fuck was GW thinking with Fyreslayers? I love the models but building an actual 2k army with them is so fucking stupid. Even if I spam every Magmadroth option that's only like 800 points. Did they genuinely expect and believe that people would be ok buying 8 copy and paste model sets just to do the bare minimum of filling out a list? Hearthguard are cool models but not "I would love to paint 40 of these guys" cool. Don't even get me started on half the characters you can't even use because taking more than two drops is suicide.
>>
>>98658333
They come from an era when GW weren't thinking and unfortunately they never got revisited with a proper expansion so now GW have officially given up and simply souping them in with more standard looking dwarfs.
>>
>>98658333
1e and maybe even arguably 2e armies were designed to be souped with other grand alliance armies. 4th is simply a vast overcorrection of 1e, also dwrves of all variety have lost all their options that gave them niches so you’re mostly playing with stat blocks.

Speaking of 2e, there was a pocket of time when you had both 1/4th ally system combined with its own version of RoR that let you take units from other alliances (like the morale bombing flesh-eaters) and it was so much fun.
Shame we can't have that anymore.

That army isn't even legal unless you have a stupendous amount of drops. People online who say they own 7+ Magmadroths are genuinely mentally ill.
>>
>>98658333
It has the same issue I feel like a few of the new AOS exclusive forces do, like IDK, and I'm gonna say NH. GW kinda has the theme down on point, a few cool models, but the ranges are in desperate need of a solid wave to just add some actual MEAT to those bones.

If there's only one you could focus fire it down with your guns and wizards but a mass gargant assault? I guess you hope for the best. They'd probably have to develop a whole different army composition of fast units of ranged cavalry that can keep away from them and pepper their knees until they fall or something
>>
>>98657994
I think when 4th dropped there was a snippet about Skaven tripping one with Warpstone caltrops then eating its face/eyes when it fell.

Seems like the hard part is knocking them down, then it's straightforward. I'd aim the big guns at their legs, personally.

Besides opr, what the other alternative wargame rulesets that people use for aos?
>>
>>98659507
i havent really seen any

unlike 40k or whfb, aos players havent been dissatisfied with their system long enough for a bunch of indie alternative rulesets to pop up, aos players have been more than happy to play aos proper. its only really since 4th that this idea has started to pop up, which a year and a half isnt a ton of time to populate the scene with alternate wargame homebrews. and most people who are upset enough with the current edition to try something else just go back to playing an older edition if i had to guess
>>
>>98659589
As much as it was fucking despised at the time, and with good reason, an updated 0.5 edition ruleset with all the wacky stuff could be pretty fun. The one where if you're using Settra and you kneel for any reason you automatically lose always made me laugh
>>
>>98659840
yeah maybe, if you do the early wacky stuff but with the 1st GHBs points update. might be fun.

a lot of those older PDFs are surprisingly hard to track down though, GW did zero work to archive anything, and a lot of the community didnt hold onto them so its really patchwork who has what

>>98659870

I'm working on the new Festus. What exactly is that weird table-rack thing on his back? I don't know if it's wood or metal or whatever. The backpack is just really weird to me and I can't discern the textures well.

Everything else was p straightforward tho.

>0 normie penetration
This is a bad thing? I want a game where people actually appreciate the figures and want to have cool looking battles with painted armies.

I think the new massive wave people who are "into 40k now" are the same people who binge buy pokemon cards and buy UB EDH decks but rarely if ever actually play. 40k is becoming trendy and it's only going to get worse with the release of Dow4 and TWW40k. GW knows a huge surge is coming and they're going to perfectly calibrate prices to milk it for all it is worth. I don't want AoS to be like 40k at all.

It’s part of his throne, chair thing, that carries all his ingredients.
>>
>>98660604
I know what is meant to be, but I don't know what that big metal box is made of. I know he is hanging the body to drain the fluids and he ties his little potions and mixtures to the wood and the little wicker man is some kind of fly effigy. It's a backpack like he used to have in WhFb.

I don't know why it's a solid fat brick of metal or wood. it looks like some weird operating table that folds open or holds more tools inside. It has some straps and parts that look as if they move. Almost like a mouse trap.

ah well I'll just copy the box art
