It was his starting machine in a pirate campaign where he used it to mercilessly bully pirate bugs, frankenmech shitheaps, and garbage vehicles and infantry of every variety. He didn't even have a dropship, just an old Landing Craft Mk VII with enough cargo to haul it. He painted it all black with a sheriff star on the right torso. Eventually, he upgraded to an archer. Great campaign.

I don't know if anyone remembers but in another thread I was dropped into a match as a novice where I had restrictions and with some help I tried to spam AC/10 hetzers. It went okay until a shitload of LRMs and Arrow somethings just utterly deleted them and my team surrendered.

There's like 28~ versions of the Shadowhawk with 3 customsSurely a couple of them are good rather than just OK right? How about the -12C? HPPC, ERML, MML7, 6/9/4? ok fucked on being a Rasalhague availability but that looks usable. Couple of other models are basically just HPPC carriers with more or less supporting weaponry.-5D has a RAC/5... only a couple of tons of ammo eh, gets 5/8/5 move at least and a couple of medium lasers and a ssrm4 instead of wasting tonnage on an LRM5?The newest update in the -6D is one of those Fedsuns reengineered lasers things that, well ok that's at least it's got a niche? But there's some big gaps in the timeline post-jihad as all the more interesting updates are project phoenix ones, feels like there's an opening for some other versions to creep in for modernisation efforts.

>>98685583>>98685525I swear I remember reading something where the merc has to rescue Grayson after he gets shot out of his Mech by the Clans, and ends up sheltering with Grayson underwater, and Lori gets mad at them about it. Is that in one of the vidya?
>>98686579That's because AI did. CGL doesn't use real artists anymore. They're 100% AI from the art to the writing to the code on their websites. The only way to win is to make sure they fail as a company by whatever means necessary.

>>98686640That's actually from Team Cincy's (i.e. NEA and the others) campaign report. They played a scenario that was IIRC based on a scenario from an old campaign book, where their mercs were fighting alongside GDL against the Clans. During the game Grayson Carlyle's mech was destroyed, and NEA used his Grasshopper to rescue the pilot. He later had to jump the same mech into depth 2 water to get out of LoS of some Clan mechs, and the GM ruled that Grayson could climb into the mech's cockpit so he wouldn't drown. That particular mech was piloted by a female mechwarrior, so anons joked about Lori being mad at finding Grayson spent most of the battle in a cramped cockpit with another women while hiding under water.

Which would be the more appropriate "hero" command mech for a second line Jade Falcon fire star?Summoner (Superior Jade falcon design and ubiquitous, but also a valuable omnimech which could be used in more worthy stars)orPhoenix Hawk IIC 2/9 (Viper design, but available to the Falcons throughout all of history, the big meaty fists likely only used for construction purposes as to not break zellbrigen.)
>>98687087We've passed that stage and are currently at big players fearmongering and demanding regulation to eliminate competition and individual ownership.
>>98686989The era would be less annoying if things actually...progressed. The first book, Hour of the Wolf, was published on January 2021 and aside from those TRO intros that aren't really considered canon anymore, the in-universe timeline has only progressed 2-3 years at most.I hope after we get that Periphery sourcebook they've talked about for the era, we get a 10-20 year timejump. Not a crazy length of time, but we'll at least see some movement. Stick around there for maybe a couple years, then do one more jump to 3180-3200. 30-50 years in-universe should be a good length of time for this era to last before a new name would come into the picture.
>>98687252>and individual ownership*ownership by natural personsIndividual incorporated persons' rights shall not be infringed.
>>98687047Sounds lame. I like the new tech being proliferated. Have clan tech thrown in spices things up, but I do think mechs with just clantech are a bit reductive. I like when it becomes more of a side grade
>>98687332Such stories form an impression regarding how the game works, so it makes a lot of sense to use scenarios showing off the whole range of what the game has to offer. If the events somewhat accurately describe the relative power levels of the game pieces, then the readers will have learned something that will be immediately useful should they feel like getting into the game itself. In comparison, a story about Clans The Snakes have been right about on MyDudes violence is just flash without any substance.
>>98686053https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZVyQfEHFfQ
>>98687239Do not be influenced by sloptubers
>>98687239Summoner has the improved communications quirk which makes it slightly more practical as a command mech. Typically the commander of a second line unit would also be the one to have the omni.
>>98687332>>98687347You can do both stories at once. The trucks and like are brand new, tech rating F (Clan level) vehicles and they are going for a tear against conventional forces...right up until a mixed tech, not even fully Clantech, Mech shows up leading a unit to bring down the hammer.
Has anyone played Conventionals only Battletech? As in conventional infantry, conventional tracked and wheeled vehicles, conventional aircraft, etc. What was it like, if so? Dogshit, or was there some weird balance existing with them?
>>98687520I adapted an Advanced Squad Leader scenario once and it played surprisingly well but it took a fair amount of time because every platoon/squad were moving one hex a turn
>>98687347That's true but the issue is that 99% of games are played exclusively with the strongest game pieces, that being the mechs. On top of that in the modern era and all the way since the clan invasion, light mechs have been lolkek tier and almost useless on the battlefield for anything other than 1 or 2 turns of sporadic fire before getting blown up. It's so bad that I genuinely consider 40 and 45 ton mechs to be "light" mechs now because they can actually fulfill the role of a light mech without exploding instantly. Back to my point though, this is why I think they should flesh out stuff like protomechs and highlight them as a cheaper and more common alternative compared to full on battlemechs and encourage protomech on protomech only games, with maybe some standard vehicles thrown in as well. If you want more parts of the setting to be used you gotta give people a more exciting incentive to use it
>>98687520>>98687557This is gonna sound really retarded but are there a troop carrier that can drop off troops so infantry doesn't slow things down so much? If you are doing an infantry focused game then you may be sorta restricted to 1 hexmap, but if you can make them mechanized you can make it faster. It could be fun to play for objectives with just infantry, especially if you can utilize IFVs and stuff.
You would think that in the era of clan dominance in the inner sphere there would be some new totem mechs.
>>98687703Sphereoids are so dezgra they don't understand how honorable it is to get killed by a 100 ton fursuit.
>>98687621Yeah, the most recent Black Pants Legion (Tex) Battletech video was on a few of the APCs and IFVs of the setting:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ui6RtV6paM
Say something nice about him.
>>98687795Turrets good
>>98687621>>98687782Also aside from some of the vehicles in that video and so on, you aren't strictly restricted to 1 hex per turn as >>98687557 mentions. That speed is specifically for foot infantry, and there's a few other motive types (some may be new to some people if they use MegaMekLabs, as some only show up on very small squad sizes and infantry totals, as well as higher rules levels):>Jump: 3 Jump movement (6" j) / 1 Ground movement (2" f)>Motorized: 3 Motorized (6" m)>Mechanized (Hover): 5 Hover (10" h)>Mechanized (Tracked): 3 Tracked (6" t)>Mechanized (Wheeled): 4 Wheeled (8" w)>VTOL (Micro-Copter): 4 VTOL (8" v)>VTOL (Microlite): 4 VTOL (8"v)>SCUBA (Foot): 1 Scuba (2" s)>SCUBA (Motorized): 2 Scuba (4" s)>SCUBA (Submarine): 3 Scuba (6" s)>Beast-Mounted: Variable from 2-5 Foot, 2-5 Sub, and a 6 VTOLThis all without mounting them up in something like a Goblin, though naturally stuff aside from the basic Foot have rapidly climbing transport capacity needed (ex. 1 squad of 7 foot infantry needs only 1 Ton of transport capacity, but the same number of Mechanized (Tracked) infantry needs 7 tons)
>>98687782>black pants legion No.
>>98687621>>98687520>>98687557If you want an infantry-focused game, use Battletroops.
>>98687621Hover/Wheeled/Tracked APC: ultra cheap and light transpo. Barely armored. Carry one squad per so you need 3 for a foot rifle platoon.Heavy variants of above: heavier and pricier, less fragile, each vehicle can carry 2 rifle platoons per.Goblin: IFV that can mix it up with actual tanks. Basic version has a one ton bay so you need more transpo for the full platoon. Variants can carry more.Karnov: chopper capable of carrying two full rifle platoons. Cheap and fast and also fragile. Very good choice for broken terrain, but remember they need to hold still to deploy troops (rappelling) or land. Unless you bring jump infantry of course.
Why do infantries bother carrying small arms instead of solely AT weapons? Infantry vs Infantry seems like a waste of time when you can have a dedicated mech doing anti infantry.
>>98687981Fight infantry in a city with only mechs and mechbusting infantry and you'll realize why.
>>98687981Because the Kurita house book only implied Asian Fightan Magic, but never statted it.
The pulse module is a neat idea and they should let you be able to put one on whatever kind of laser you want, including weird shit like Blazers, Heavy, C-ER, etc etc. PPC Capacitors should also be able to charge independently of the PPC itself, so that you can fire enhanced damage every other round if you want.Constantly introducing side grades just to aggressively limit it until it's borderline useless is fucking gay.
>>98687998It's a neat idea and a practical, economic way to make a Clan Pulse laser-equivalent from IS ER lasers, so it will remain experimental until it becomes extinct.
>>98687967And Battletroops uses squads or platoons as the baseline unit, yes?
The dragon is gay.
>>98688023Thats what e621 tells me.
>>98687621That basically only works once unless you can secure the area and waste an entire turn remounting them. Dropping infantry off is convenient and practical, picking infantry up is not.
>>98687981You can just do both? They have a primary and a secondary slot, and secondary has harder hitting stuff. You can also just attach a field gun if you really want the heavy anti-vehicle weapons, if you use a motive other than Foot. As long as you hit the minimum crew, they can be firing shit like an AC/20 or Gauss Rifle.>>98688027I mean, do you really have much need to pick them up if there's still stuff to shoot at outside of an evac? And if you need to pull an evac like that, you probably dismounted the infantry in a pretty stupid place to do so anyway.
I wish the AUs were less dumb gimmick shit and more divergent timelines and alt history. I would at least have some interest in that.
>>98688090>what is empires aflame?
>The year is 3025>Double heat sinks haven't been invented yet>The Clans don't exist>Your favorite unit hasn't been killed in the Jihad>The air smells sweeter
>>98688125Yeah I want shit like that.
>>98688090If I recall right, Gothic is a divergent timeline from the First Succession War where some bioweapons got way more development than they had in canon to result in the Abominations and similar effects. But yeah, the Empires Aflame style of taking a specific event and changing it (in Empires' case, Kerensky and DeChevalier being assassinated before the Exodus) would be cool as well. Have the Grey Death Legion fail to recover Helm and show what the Clan Invasion would have been like without that. Switch up which Clans did the invasion. Mirror Universe the Federated Commonwealth so its the disfunctional alliance while the Free Worlds League, Capellan Confederation, and Draconis Combine manage to pull themselves together into a for-the-moment Superstate under the Kapetyn Accords due to some prior events shifting. You know those larger Proliferation Cycle or the Bug 'Mech Company style boxes? They could put a basic fold-up map primers detailing various alternate universes into one of those that shows the map on one side and gives a brief alternate history on the other, if they are worried about committing too hard to it.
>>98688157If you weren't a coward, you'd play something like 2900 which is still Third Succession War but you have less guiderails.
>>98688174Gothic diverged in the age of war when someone discovered an alien symbiont that can merge with and mutate pretty much any carbon based life and they used it to splice up a bunch of monstrosities which mechs were made to counter. The Star League banned them for the most part, but after Kerensky left everyone dusted off their old cryogenically frozen monstrosities and did a lot of good old fashioned warcrimes. Some factions have fully embraced human splicing, some haven't, but they all use monsters and nobody has bothered pulling any punches for the third succession war or beyond. Mech production is down to early madmaxtech levels and only getting worse over time, and it's implied that the mechs in the box are the only common mechs left, with anything else being rare or extinct.
>>98686579I don't know if it's AI, but they definitely recycled pretty much everything from pervious art. That Locust is in the exact same pose as on one of the boxes and I'm pretty sure the pilot's face was cropped from Universe or one of the other books. Whether the fed all their previous box art into an AI or got an actual employee to copy and paste everything manually, it's still pretty lazy.

They could put a basic fold-up map primers detailing various alternate universes into one of those that shows the map on one side and gives a brief alternate history on the other, if they are worried about committing too hard to it.Point is unless it's something with significant aesthetic changes like Gothic what's the point, you can just make up or write about your own alt history? Now if going the Gothic route there would need to be a different style and justification for it, and for the most part those changes would be more tech and aesthetic related than lore related. For one idea I could see an alternate LAM focused setting where LAMs took off so you can get a bunch of ahistorical LAMs perhaps even assault weight LAMs. Aesthetic would probably lean more towards the Gundam style mechs than chicken walkers.>Banshee LAM>Black Knight LAM>Viper (Or Crusader but I prefer the Viper) LAM>Shadow Hawk LAM>Phoenix Hawk LAM>Wasp LAM
>>98688237I can't wait for when the real Star League returns - with none of that faggot Clan shit - and they start wrecking shit for the Greater Good
>>98688237This doesn't really seem like it justifies the aesthetic of Gothic at all.
>>98687981When I was in the army I was in a light infantry AT unit. I had a sergeant who had participated in Desert Storm. He said that back then they only had TOW launchers and their M16s, and nearly shit themselves when hundreds of Iraqi soldiers came upon them as they were scouting in the vanguard. This incident and others like it was why doctrinally we also carried .50 cals and mk19s. Had they carried those instead of just TOWs that could have been a cool story about the time they panicked and massacred a bunch of soldiers they didn't know were surrendering.
>>98687239Depends on the narrative and if youre using quirks. Personally, I prefer to have the IIC and the Summoner co-star in my force but the Phoenix Hawk tends to last a little longer and who doesnt like a good fist fight during the endgame?

It's honestly a miracle blazers are pretty straight forward and work decent at all and aren't gimped to hell where they are totally useless. That's my one general complaint of BT's system, is that it feels like people were asking for stuff so the devs spitefully added it in only to give it bad rules as a middle finger to the people asking for it. I hope the new core rules start to rewrite some of the autistic and retarded aspects of how certain stuff works out of the rules so it can be more useful and the game can have more variety >>98688006This sounds very cool and now I'm mad we don't have it. Adding weight and eating crit space to upgrade your lasers sounds really cool and like it would make the game more fun and mech construction more fun, so naturally they won't make it a thing
>>98688174iirc Big Red 40tech did an inverted clans invasion where the clans who participated got changed up. It's a pretty good and interesting video. Basically though the invasion is substantially less effective and in the end it sorta stalls out pretty bad causing a lot of internal problems with the clans. Unsurprisingly the Star Adders seem to be the real long term winners as they keep expanding their empire to slowly encircle the IS by taking over more and more periphery powers, like a snake coiling around its prey. The Wolves have to put up with much more retardation tho
>>98687589>That's true but the issue is that 99% of games are played exclusively with the strongest game pieces, that being the mechs. It is 100% people not wanting to learn the non mech rules. >>98688855I heard of one idea for an alt history where Kerensky led the SLDF rimward instead so the invasion corridor consists of Taurians, Cappies, Feds, and FWL. I think that would have been a fun invasion>Taurians war criming clanners and getting Turtle Bayed repeatedly in response>Liaos have to get rescued by Feds and are humiliated or get absorbed like Rasalhague did so we end up with Jade-Falcon/Liao double assholes>Nova Cats end up with FWL instead of Combine>Operation Guerrero is instead a Combine invasion of Davion space
>>98688484>fist fightI was actually thinking more from a logistics / campaign / RP standpoint that it would be useful to have at least one large mech with hands to help flip all the gun boats over if they fall and can't get up.I don't think a lone howler is going to manage to help a Bane up if it tips over or gets stuck in a river.Second line mechs often get stuck doing salvage after all.
>>98689145Main reason I don't like the Jihad is because it feels like a forced situation to reboot the setting.>Star League collapses because reasons>Instead of using force to push for a reform Word of Blake just starts killing everyone and being comic book villains>Everyone has to unite to defeat them and a new state forms where the old Terran Hegemony wasIf you wanted to collapse the second star league I'd prefer a fifth succession war with clans acting in essence like successor lords.
>>98686224Old school Accounttech, where StratOps is your god, and his prayers are written in spreadsheets. Where you keep spare bug limbs like ammo and leverage being able to use a Mechwarrior as an astech like he owes you money.
>>98689445I didn't think the Jihad was THAT unrealistic. The Inner Sphere had looked like it was on track for a return to the golden age of the Star League after centuries of pointlessly destructive wars, only for the Second Star League to collapse and ruin everything. A whole generation of people who grew up with technology and industry gradually recovering to pre-Succession Wars levels and saw the Great Houses cooperating to push back the Clans genuinely thought the universe was becoming a better place. When the Blakists offered a chance to get rid of the ones responsible for ending the dream of progress, of course there would be no shortage of people taking them up on it.
>>98689445It's ironically better and worse than that. The crazies spaced the actual elected leader of the Word of Blake to take over and shell the shit out of the former Fedcom capital worlds for destroying the Star League. The boys that showed up on the Drac capital were unironically there to help Hohiro put down the Black Dragon rebellion. They were even like "Hey guys, we're those former Comstar dudes that helped you kill the Jags. We're here to help!" Then the Bears killed them all for fake being Wolverines. Then, they outed Tommy for turning on them in the FWL and tried to undermine the Regulans. Oh, and then Sunny faked them attacking him so he had just cause to break out the nukes to clear them out of the Chaos March.Whole Jihad is every old grudge since 3025 raising its ugly head in every good and bad way.
>>98686339It also looks like they removed the abridged series off of Audible as well.
>>98689552Good. The abridged series is a fucking abomination.
>>98689516Did it ruin everything? Things seemed mostly fine following the Fedcom Civil War and the Star League was far from irrecoverable from. I at least wouldn't have jumped straight into killing everything.
>>98689445The fact of the Jihad at least we can't blame on CGL. They came up with the retarded details, but the general idea of "Blakists go insane and the Republic of the Sphere forms" was handed to them by Wizkids.
>>98689574Best we could fit on two cassettes back in the day, bro. I kinda wonder if I should have bought them used just for the collectibility. They were at Half Price Books all the time.
>>98689581The wizkids stuff was even more detailed than that if you read the old DA material. Like, we knew Outreach was a radioactive wasteland from the Jihad. Boy, CGL made that one fun.

>>98689445I actually like the Jihad itself, I just hate the aftermath and the RoTS Era it's meant to be set up for. A crazy sphere wide war full of SW1 war crimes, new and reintroduced technology, and enough fighting to leave even the Successor States and Clans exhausted afterwards? Yeah that sounds awesome. So of course most of that tech gets immediately extinct in universe, the aftermath sucks, and it screws over a bunch of settings needlessly, because why should people be allowed to enjoy things?

Is there any situation where a Nemesis pod actually does what the rules say it does instead of making the enemy not shoot? Surely if it would take effect you just don't shoot along that line, right?
>>98689740>I have a really hard time believing that the HBS contracts were written in such a way that anyone but CGL owned the IP created for the game.Ah, you do not yet comprehend the full retardation that the death of FASA left the Battletech IP in.Microsoft has the full ownership of the video games side of Battletech. Again, not licensing, full ownership. Because FASA voluntarily split those off into a completely separate company also named FASA for reasons.Basically all the television and cartoon ownership rights are locked up inside the Disney megaconglomerate. I think this might be a permanent licensing, but it could be full ownership. FASA's leadership thought there would be no problems with this.As for the Tabletop, the rights to the rules and the miniatures were separately split up until recently. CGL also doesn't own it, but instead licenses it. Topps is the real owner of the Battletech Tabletop. However, you don't want them to take the rules away from CGL now, because CGL picked up Iron Wind Metals who was one of the few companies left from FASA days allowed to create miniatures for the typical tabletop. Which is an issue because the way FASA gave out those licences meant that no one after FASA could create new ones unless all the ones from FASA's days went out of business because it was permanent licensing in a weird way. So if CGL gets cut out of the rules, miniatures once more get split off.FASA may have struck gold in making Battletech, but they ran the business like idiots.

>>98689409Its a cool idea on the surface, except people always forget that the instant the Taurians are stupid enough to use nukes, every single clan gets called in and every single WarShip gets deployed against people who have no means of countering them. Also zellbrigen gets completely thrown out the window and the clans quit offering the spheroids that easily exploited narrative weakness that was forced on them.>but muh nuke stuffed dropshipsYou fucking wish. >>98690596It's basically half new equipment and half a collection of house rules (some of which later became normal rules).
I don't really get how the periphery also suffered tech and manufacturing loss from the succession wars. How can you have over a dozen planets and not be self sufficient? It's not your factories and cities getting nuked.
>>98690605What kind of House-specific rules? And how many were included? If we're just talking about relative access to lostech in the wake of stuff like discovering the Helm Memory Core or Myndo accidentally shipping things to the Dracs, that's not really a "House rule" ...
>>98690624Oh, I see. Sorry, I didn't see that you were capitalizing "House". My bad.You should be proud of yourself, that's very clever.
>>98690623Kind of a puzzling postPeriphery worlds might be self-sufficient in terms of subsistence but few will be able to produce military hardwareAnd those which can will be impacted by the bottlenecking resources and markets as the Succession Wars consumed civilization
>>98690623>How can you have over a dozen planets and not be self sufficient?Deliberate economic sabotage by the Star League.Seriously. This is official canon.
>>98690629Oh I see the disconnect, you were thinking "house rules" like optional rules or somethingThat's my bad, I just assumed it meant rules specific to the Great Houses of the IS nations
>>98690634>take loan from star league>all the valuable minerals in the ground disappear
>>98690651>Hey we're gonna build shoes here, nothing but shoes, subsidize shoe making to the max>All other local industries die in favor of shoemaking>Star league leaves>Planet vastly overproduces shoes and underporduces everything else>Shoes are not that important an industry
>>98690681You had two centuries of being left alone with multiple star systems worth of resources and you couldn't diversify away from shoe production in that timeframe?
>>98690703Their economies disintegrated overnight. They didn't even have enough food let alone other materials. It would be like if earth shipped in all its food, electronics, machines, even materials for shoemaking. When the economy collapsed they didn't even have the industry to make rubber for shoes because that too was imported, so outside if what was stored or for what subsistence farmers grew there was no food, outside of small, irrelevant mines there was no iron, etc.
The existence of resources is one thing. The capacity to locate, extract, refine, and utilize them is quite another. The interest in doing any of that is yet another thing. An advanced industrial economy is not really something that just spontaneously occurs given people and natural resources. The circumstances of the Periphery and especially during the Succession Wars also create a lot of incentives not to develop into a target for raids and conquest. You also have to consider what kind of mindset in involved among those who want to leave civilization in the first place. Some dream of building their own version of what they left behind, sure. But how many of that subset have the skill, luck, and drive to succeed? And people like that would be a minority, considering most people leaving all that behind them are not keen to then set it all up again afterward. On top of that, there is also the historical dimension of human consciousness. Peripheral attitudes about the Star League and the Great Houses, and the kind of "Golden Age" the built, are much more skeptical than within the House territories, precisely because of how those governments preyed upon and abused them.
>>98690623The Star League intentionally kept the Periphery dependent on the IS to avoid another Reunification War type scenario, so more advanced technologies was mostly produced in the IS and shipped to the Periphery, while the Periphery itself mostly produced raw materials. When the Succession Wars started the supply chain collapsed, leaving the Periphery cut off from a lot of the most advanced technology and without the means of building it themselves. The major Periphery states were self-sufficient in the sense that they could sustain their population, but lacked the technology and resources to build new battlemech factories and other advanced technology until the discovery of the Helm memory core made that tech more available.
>>98690651It's like how Russia has oil, but the technology to get it out of the ground's mostly not theirs. What's more, the IS is fundamentally severely under-capitalized and the ruling class are the middle-men controlling interstellar trade.
>>98690742People don't hammer this home hard enough - the Star League originally brought the five Succ Houses to the table with the promise of conquest and Empire. The Hegemony didn't just unite humanity with kumba-yo and the Space United Nations, it militarily supported each of its chosen Succ lords in their campaigns to take down their then-still peers in the periphery.
>>98690742>>98690724We also should keep in mind what they mean when they discuss the Periphery's tech base. I'm sure plenty of them at least sorta got some agriculture and industry going eventually, but it wouldn't be anything comparable to even the IS' 3025 techbase, let alone comparable to what was lost in the Star League's collapse. This is compounded by how most planets just aren't going to be anywhere near as fertile as Earth without tons of work and maintenance that a post SL fall Periphery System just can't keep going on their own. So you'll have a planet full of people with a broken economy, primitive agriculture in a shitty area, with maybe an adhoc industry base that would look small and primitive even compared to the real life 80's, and even if by some miracle you get somewhere there's a good chance pirates with IS military hardware come by to raid you regularly.Yeah sure you can build primitive WW2 era tanks and conventional aircraft with some time and effort, then you can watch your military get completely fucked by some dickhead in a near invulnerable giant robot or a bunch of dickheads in a fusion powered sci-fi tank that shoots lasers. You got the numbers to mob them? Sorry they just went back in their literal space ship and just keep hitting you where you're weakest until you give up and give them what they want, which means your goods, food, precious materials, and probably some of your sisters and daughters because fuck you, blame God for being born a Periphery barb you deep space shitskin.Shit is insanely lopsided and unfair for the average peripheroid and that was entirely intentional on Star League's part.
>>98690789The dropship captain supplying your world is probably triple-dipping by taking a cut from the pirates that raided you.
>>98690789>you can watch your military get completely fucked by some dickhead in a near invulnerable giant robotGotta cut the head off an Atlas and replace it with a convertible.

Damn, I feel kind of reluctant to use the Rifleman model as the Rifleman II, given that the latter is 20 tons fatter than the original.>I still don't know why it doesn't even have the art even when the Rifleman III, which only a single unit was ever made, has a line art
>>98690821The Rifleman II *MUST* be visually identical to the Rifleman, if you accept the quasi-canon theory that Gray Noton was piloting a Rifleman II on Solaris. If it wasn't identical, people would realize he wasn't in a normal Rifleman.
>>98690866Well that does makes me feel better, but I still can't help but wonder where is it hiding its 20 tons of extra fat while still being in the same shape

>>98690800I genuinely would not be surprised if there was some Errant Mechwarrior on a Deep Periphery planet that actually did just that to make a functioning Frankenmech.
>>98690882He's referring to it being an in-universe rumor that Noton had found an SLDF Rifleman II and passed it off as a regular Rifleman. Out of universe we know it isn't true, and even in-universe the idea is easily disproved (they inspect the mechs before matches so people would notice if his Rifleman was 20 tons heavier), but for the idea to even seem credible in the first place Rifleman and Rifleman II must look similar enough that one could potentially be passed off as the other.
>>98690898What would that even look like mechanically?A primitive cockpit technically so you lose a couple tons on that.Quirk wise, probably >Weak Head ArmorObviously, it's replacing a standard 'Mech cockpit for a literal muscle car>Cramped CockpitI'm assuming a driver's seat has less leg room than an Assault class 'Mech cockpit you're meant to be in for long periods of time on campaign >Hard to pilotCoop was the only one who could pilot Megas for a reason.

>>98690866>Gray NotonA scrub
>>98691027>>98691023Fuck I hate the 3-4T variant they came up with for the new art. Like... why go for a LB-5? We have all these versions of the Clint that move away from it being a 40 tonner with 3 Medium Lasers with extra steps, and then they just roll back into it. Fuck, the damn thing only has a single ton of ammo too! So you can't even switch between slug and pellet! The only thing the horrible little thing has going for it is Reflective Armour, oh, and CASEII... for a single ton of AC ammo? Whereas... what they COULD have done is downgrade those ridiculous XMPL's down to ERML's, swap out 7 tons of Reflective for 5 Tonnes of Heavy FF, and then they have EXACTLY enough for a RAC/5 and three whole tons of ammo! Which is enough to go full RoF on the thing for ten entire turns, which is definitely going to be longer than any Clint will ever survive.
>>98690928Yeah but let's be honest, Coop is basically a 0/0 pilotPlus if we go by stuff like this, his neuro compatibility is nuts
>>98691053The Rec Guid variants all try to match the weapons on the mech model, so replacing the AC with an RAC (which is nearly always depicted with multiple barrels) wouldn't really work. Though they could have swapped the AC5 to an LBX-10 or something.

>>98691169An UAC5 would worked better than an LBX-5 as well, as at least then only having a single ton of ammo wouldn't have been so debilitating. LBX's really need to be able to switch between Slug and Pellet on the fly to have utility.
>>98691169>>98691174This is a bit of an extreme shift, but I still tried to stick to the overall layout >LBX/2 - two tons of ammo>MXPLs switched to Light PPCsI had to add Endo Steel and switch down to SHS to do it, but I tossed in an extra ton of armor and 11 heat versus 10 sinking is perfectly fine anyway.

Friends, I know this isn't battletech-related, but I spend a decent amount of time in this thread, so I want to comment that I have a date tonight and am super nervous. At what point in the date is it appropriate to batchall?

>>98692560The Raven Alliance probably stands a better chance of taking more market share from the sea Jews. It would be interesting if the Jade Falcons had to become professional mercenaries to pay their bills and stay afloat in the IS. It would be extremely shameful but also extremely interesting for them to become battle hungry merc supporting their own nation
>>98693385There's almost a justification in Clan law. Clans are allowed to contract out units to other Clans for payment (like what the Ravens did with a bunch of WarShips for the Falcons in the Invasion). These guys aren't mercenaries, they're proud Jade Falcon Warriors being contracted out to various people.

>>98692756They explicitly specify that in the "send us a manuscript and we might publish it" section, too. Usually, I work off of a combination of "does the opening timestamp take place in a faction I like?" or "is this by an established author?" when skimming through. Anything that is not a one-off short story means that they directly commissioned it, and I've rarely found issue with those.

>>98695433AyupThe short version is 5/8, twin snubs, LAC 5, twin ER med lasers, XL engine, 10.5 tons of standard armor. Very unremarkable and exactly what you'd think it'd be. The prior version in lore was meant to be a trainer and is the same thing but with twin light PPCs replacing the snubs and a standard fusion engine. Only variant I've done otherwise to spice things up is one that mount 4 ER med lasers and a clan grade UAC/10 in the shoulder with 2 tons of ammo. Next variant I want to crank up the engine size and maybe add jump jets
>>98695520You should check out shrapnel 26 then.

>>98697015The only way to stop it is to get a gun and commit mass murder at the CGL offices or a convent. Is that what your suggesting?
>>98696913Personally I'd say Shadow Hawk variants starting getting genuinely better by like 3K. They tend to have either a big gun or a lot of missiles to make up for it, and the ones with an MML do the original theme justice imo. Although the 6R(?) with the multiple Thunderbolt missiles is fun in its own way kek.
>>98697032Even the 2Ht and 2Hb are solid mechs, an LB-X AC/10, two medium lasers, and two streak SRM 2s is nothing to sneeze at.
>>98697075If they can't deal 15 damage in a single cluster, they're shit. Any Mech over 45 tons should be able to headcap.
>>98697090Headcapping is the single most overrated concept in the game. The point of single hit damage is to concenteate damage in a single location to quickly strip armor from one section allowing it to be critted and destroyed. If headcapping was so important the most competitive mechs wouldn't be large pulse laser carrying mechs.

They'd definitely have taken most of the Rimward states with them, but it would've been a grindfest iirc.
>>98690623A combination of the Star League stripping them to the bone, making their shit so black boxed and dependant on Terran supplies that any interruption would destroy the machines, constant raids by other states, (the Periphery has zero defense in depth) and the friendly neighborhood telecom company totally not doing white ops and blaming the great houses, which causes counterattacks which bleeds them even more.

>>98697476A Large Laser is 100,000; an SRM2 is 60,000 plus 27,000 for a single ton of ammo. It's likely the fusion engine you're paying for the most out of everything.
>>98697565I'm talking about if a Rotunda suddenly popped into 2026, SRM's are (shitty) guided missiles, but are still guided missiles.

>>9869894615 USD, because it was $5 1985 USD.
>>98697195If we are having the Clans invading from the opposite direction, wouldn't the order be 180'd as well? So it would be Clans Wolf and one part of Jade Falcon hitting the Taurians then Davions, one part of Jade Falcon and one part of the Ghost Bears hitting the Capellans through the Aurigan remnants and future Fronc, and the other part of Ghost Bears and Smoke Jaguar attacking Canopus?
>>98697245If the Taurian's utilize nuclear weapons this would go from "Yeah we are invading your shit" to Trial of Annihilation for the Taurians. We are talking about Warships moving from planet to planet wiping clean of anything Taurian.
>>98698961>jade falconI was fanfic'ng a scenario where clan jade falcon pretty much wipes out the clans by invading fucking Brinton and ignoring every desperate warning the planet was trying to tell them.
>>98699849>the clans just completely abandoning their honor system Anon this would be catastrophic for their ideology, the clans after turtle bay pretty much mothballed their warships and honestly it's a massive plot hole in the original canon that the great houses didn't dust off their nukes when warships were spotted. The action tree for warships goes as follows.>see warship>do you have warship>yes>warship fight>no>do you have nukes>yes>USE THEM>no >rocks fall everyone fucking dies Warships are essentially reusable WMD's and for anyone to allow those to ravage their assets without counter is pure insanity.
>>98697090>Any Mech over 45 tonsI think you mean 35, unless you're a clanner then you can shove a gauss in a 30 ton kit fox.

>>98699926>it's a massive plot hole in the original canon that the great houses didn't dust off their nukes when warships were spottedIt's a massive plot hole that CGL introduced. >>98697109This, I don't particularly care about 15 point heavy weapons that much. What I do care about is 10 point damage cluster capability on mechs because it allows me to more reliably time the pace of a fight. The Ultra AC/10 therefore is one of my favorite weapons in the game. Uncontroversially to the Clan LPL is also one of my favorites for being super reliable. Medium heavy lasers are a godsend for most builds in the later eras imo

With regards to the original sourcebooks, the House Liao one is definitely the best written and most funThe 3025 Capellan Confederation Armed Forces is canonically the coolest house militaryEach of their regiments and brigades just has so much flavour. The FWLM is a close second.
>>98700327Dude you are flat out ignoring the entire fucking setting to bash Taurians. Fucking stop.
>>98700499I just hate the Taurians. Thanks to the CapCon and WoB they got mech regiments and mech factories out of thin air, and they're one of the strongest factions now despite being a periphery nation.
>>98700451Yeah, against the INNER SPHERE. A Warship is even more dangerous than nukes, so much so that the Great Houses and ComStar actively prioritized their destruction and the destruction of all infrastructure needed to build and support them. Meanwhile the Great Houses can and still posses and manufacture nuclear weapons and ComStar gives zero fucks about it. In addition using nuclear weapons in open space is not seen as a atrocity, only within 50,000km of a planet as per the Ares Conventions. A force showing up with warships who just rape your transport and shipping without counter is how you stop being a civilization.
>>98700519Didn't they just get done with like 2 really costly retarded wars that absolutely almost ripped their own nation apart internally, both times? Forgive me if I'm behind on the lore but the Taurians, despite being a periphery power, have always struck me as being near peer with the great houses for basically all their history. Theyve always had me and and even tangled with the SLDF way back when. Their domestic mech production has always been more or less of a thing and generally pretty robust, but they lack the flexibility of the real industries in the IS and have some weird tech limitations that restrict some of their designs. Iirc they can't make X-pulse lasers and as of the ilclan do not have any clan grade component construction capabilities as far as I know which is increasingly becoming a massive disadvantage in the setting as partial clan refits are becoming more and more common
>>98700519>taurians That's the Canopians you absolute fucking newfag, the Taurians got absolutely FUCKED during the Jihad to the point they lost 90% of their territory and most of their manufacturing.

>>98700936Bust down the Howler pilot is the logical move, but it's the Jewed Faggots so do the wrong thing for fluff.
>>98700283Would they try to annihilate them? Perhaps, but the cost would be absolutely massive as warships can be killed with nukes so the end result would be Taurians get wiped out and Clans suffer horrific losses and lose much of their fleet power.
