>>

In hindsight, it should have been obvious what the refresh would look like considering the preview we got in Blood Bowl. I want to get into this game but I also definitely shouldn’t spend more money than I’m planning lmao.
>>
You think they'll ever make dedicated minis for renegade crowns?
>>
>>98707662
no, gw is stuck in a self referential loop, you'll see dogs of war with a comment like
>these are perfect for renegade crowns too
>>
>>98707662
They're supposed to be the kitbashers and modelers faction, so doubt it.
>>
File: mercenary stare.png (3.72 MB, 1802x1612)
3.72 MB PNG
>>98707662
No. Why would they? It's just an Empire/Bretonnia alliance force. Dogs of War have trve mercs covered. I wouldn't mind an official Grudgebringers kit or two for a "good" human soup army at some point thoughbeitever, probably after Kislev.
>>
>>98707631
Thankfully it's pretty cheap to get into. You can get a full team for less than $60 USD (less if you get an LGS discount).
Other than that, you just need the right dice and you should be set.
Most people bring their own pitch, so you don't really need to own one, and the counters can be anything from buttons to other models.
BB is really easy to get into if you're on a budget.
>>
Why are the 5th edition handgunners so plentiful on the second hand market whereas swordsmen are hard to find.
>>
>>98707631
>the preview we got in Blood Bowl
so Brettonia next, then. I get the feeling it's going to be a much more controversial refresh than this TK one
>>
>>98707964
100%. Hopefully they learned their lesson from the foot knights and don’t do that. Though I hope we get the rest of the rumored TK stuff first. Horsemen, hero on chariot, and Settra.
>>
For me Empire is the refresh I dread the most. Just because I think it's so easy to get it wrong. And of course everyone can't agree what Empire "should" look like anyway.
>>
>>98708079

There are already decent plastic third party proxies for empire, warlord games, wargames atlantic and even Perry miniatures.
>>
>>98708079
>absolute worst offenders get a modest refresh
>suddenly range wide refreshes are on the table
lmao no, Empire won't be getting refreshes ever they have full plastics.
>>
>>98708079
Empire and Bretonnia are the ones I'm worried about because they are obviously inspired by real life history and some of the miniatures we got for them have been very hit or miss so far.

The new project lead seems to respect the old miniatures though, so maybe it will not be so bad.
>>
>>98708088
Are you retarded?
>>
>>98708083
I find straight up historicals don't quite slot in usually, though I'm always on the lookout for good ones.
>>98708088
I like the Empire's current range so I wouldn't mind, but I think a refresh is coming for all core armies. WoC didn't need one either. And let's face it, the Empire has some models (state troops, knights..) that could do with a tune up.
>>98708089
Agreed. The TK and WoC refreshes were good but they're also more fantastical. We'll see, I'm cautiously optimistic.
>>
>>98708055
The Brettonia BB team is a bit goofy, but it's BB, so that's to be expected.
Still has women, which will be a big point of contention i think
>>
>>98708111
I think we all knew that the new brets were gonna be mixed gender. I imagine they'll take the face sculpts to somewhere similar to the aos cities of sigmar range, where they're all a bit average and ugly looking on purpose.
>>
Should Sisters of Sigmar return as an Empire or Dogs of War unit?
>>
>>98707511

Andy Law naked.
>>
>>98707964

So long as they don't do anything stupid like have female grail knights

....oh wait that's exactly what they'll do.
>>
>>98708248
Based on the BB models they'll probably all be helmeted and armoured so you won't be able to tell the difference. But they'll totally make some female grail knights in the lore™ and maybe put out a female character model or two that's unhelmeted so you can tell it's female.
>>
I can't decide on what to build. I have 800 points worth of orcs and goblins but I kinda feel like pivoting, either to beastmen, TK, empire or dwarfs
>>
>>98708105
WoC absolutely needed one because their old range clashes with AoS and they are also the space marines of fantasy so they'll get all the love GW can spare. Empire won't get shit aside from maybe a knights refresh.

Personally I would just pick up the plastic kits and forget the Ushabti there's a good chance they'll be getting plastics soon and that'll be a bigger saving than buying before the price increase. To each their own, I sold my old TK army this year and will be starting fresh with the new plastics so its more of a deal breaker and I'm happy to do a slow build, hopefully adding the missing units in plastic down the road.

>>
>>98708792
Law has some odd opinons on the Empire, I watched a recent livestream he did about Boris Todbringer and he openly said the Cult of Ulric is misogynistic, and fiercely racist toward the non-Teutogens in the Empire and shouldn't have any female members, but in past he has said that Brettonia being like that was stupid along with going agenst their flavour and forced the most random ethnic minorities in artwork in 4e.
It's weird.

they are metal bands.
Sabaton is the most well-known of the three, and they have the gimmick of all their songs being about historical battles; their song about the Winged Hussars in the siege of Vienna is I'd guess, the best-known of their discography.

Sorry if this is a basic question but a friend and I were playing our first games the other day and I was using lothern sea guard. I had them in 1 row of 10, got charged and then stood and shot and reformed into 2 rows of 5. I think we did it correctly but that had me wondering. Could you do, let's say a line of 15 and then stand and shoot and reform into 3x5? We understood the word 'free' from naval discipline as "you can stand and shoot and then reform" but my friend wondered whether 'free' meant "with no movement cost" as in "you can reform an infinite amount of models". I'm thinking since they have movement 5 you can only reform 5 models, but not sure who's in the right here

>>98709725
Because why not? They'd have to write new lore for them anyway, so they could just say some of their numbers avoided getting wiped out after Mordheim by becoming wandering warriors of Sigmar that pick up and train orphaned girls, avoid witch hunters and earn money by offering their skills in fights against bad things. If it's some rich noble or merchant they'll ask for a good pay so they can keep funding their little crusade, and if it's some lone abbey or poor peasants they'll ask for some symbolic handful of coins so that the rich don't think they can order them around for free.

Or just keep them in the Empire army, fine by me.
>>
>>98709706
The wording on it is a little awkward but I think "free" in this case refers only to the movement cost, so that you don't have to "save" half your movement from the prior movement phase to perform the manoeuvre. The part about 5 models is separate and not related to the "free" wording at all. So you basically get to do a redress the ranks manoeuvre as-written, just without "paying" the movement cost.

>>
>>98708827

He's a weird SJW, I think partly influenced by his wife and because he worked at GW decades ago and has freelanced on a number of occasions since, has got into that weird mental zone where he thinks his own headcanon is the actual fluff.

There's nothing in the lore besides what he's created that backs up that peoples of the empire map. Indeed it'd doesn't even make any historical/anthropological sense for Ostlanders to look like that, failing a massive migration of people from another part of the world - which isn't in their background.
>>
>>98708863

Sotek isn't his wife. He's the third member of their throuple. Fairly certain he lost his virginity to them.
>>
>>98710854
This has to be a joke...right?
>>
>>98709706
Well, the way redress the ranks is worded sounds like 5 models is the max you can add or take away to the front rank. I think the "free" is just bad wording and just refers to this being a thing that you can't normally do. So I would rule against being able to move 15 models in a line into a 3x5 formation using it.
>>
>>98711002
Of course, Sotek is too fat to use his penis sexually

>>98711073

I have to agree as well.
>>
>>98708780
This map only makes sense if the empire is like 3 times larger than it is to actually allow for that kind of major ethnic difference. Those Averlanders are more like Tileans and the Ostlanders look like they're straight off the horse from the steppes.

I am torn between High Elves and Wood Elves.

High Elves:
-Cool chariots.
-Armor for everyone more or less.
-Griffons.
-Phoenix.
-Bolt Throwers.
-Great designed armor.

Wood Elves:
-Arrow and Champions Upgrades on everyone.
-32" Longbows on everyone.
-Treemen.
-Lords/Nobles having Arrows of Kurnos.
-Very charming sculpts.

Both have neat things like Dragons as well, but the idea of fielding an army of unarmored archers and needing to source male torsos or minis by second hand sales ,recasting or otherwise is a bit if a killjoy. I would normally go with my heart but I honestly like both armies. What do?

It's the exact same thing with AoS and TOW. You are just so stuck in the manchild console war mentality of "liking GW™ Product I makes me superior to people who like GW™ Product II!!" and so you don't even realize it.

Anyway, just checking in to see what the general consensus is on the new tomb king stuff. Always said I might try out whfb/tow if they updated the ancient skeletons, and now I gotta put my money where my mouth is. Do kind of prefer the old chariots to the new ones personally though, and while the archers and basic skellies seem like a fairly straightforward update there's something odd about the proportions that I can't quite put my finger on. Anyway yea, what do you guys think about em?

And this is just a nice picture of another really great chaos model I own. In my opinion, nothing has surpassed the 5th to early 6th chaos range, with 3rd and, to a lesser extent, 4th having stellar sculpts too. A lot of the magic was lost in the transition from 5th to 6th, which you can observe by looking at pictures of what a chaos army looked like in the 5th army book, the 6th core rulebook, the HoC book, the SoC book, and finally the 7th army books. I'm not as familiar with other model ranges, but pretty much every army has been on the decline in terms of aesthetics since either their 5th or 6th ed ranges. However, I have an unwarranted and unacted upon fondness for the 6th through 8th ed lizardmen models. They look really cool and I will be starting a lizardmen army eventually if I ever run out of old chaos models to collect. What kind of models do you think look good, anon?

So what do Dark Elves do exactly to maintain diplomatic relations with all the people they raid and attack?

Like Chaos Dwarfs at least worship Chaos so they kind of have some pull with other Chaos worshippers. But Dark Elves oppose it, as well as raiding all other races, so how in the world are they not, "instantly shoot them on sight"?
>>
>>98713426
They roll up with a really BIG ship, and if the really BIG ship doesn't shoot first then you don't want to shoot the really BIG ship first yourself and make a still merely potential fight with the really BIG ship a certain fight with the really BIG ship
>>
>>98707504
Really like the new tomb kings skeletons. I'd get a battle march box if they had one but the reinforcement box seems very overkill for a side project.

Also why is the wood elf battle march considerably cheaper than the rest?

Will dwarfs ever get anything usable besides one afterthought AoI?
>>
Does anyone know where to find 30*60mm slotta cavalry bases? They're packaged with cavalry boxes but not sold separately as far as I can tell.
>>
>>98713433
Aren't the arks more like castles? It's like if draculas castle showed up outside your port town one morning and said "don't worry, this time we are here to pay for food, as long as you don't overcharge me." And the peasants go along with it, hoping the monsters will move along and eat someone else instead.
>>
>>98713448
>Also why is the wood elf battle march considerably cheaper than the rest?
I saw that one first and thought "wow, these are very reasonably priced!" then I saw the rest.
>>
>>98713448
Tomb kings vs wood elves box set has been rumoured for months, and skeleton cavalry also rumoured but wasn't part of the recent reveal. So my personal theory is that we'll see that box set very soon, along with two battle march boxes, just like the chaos/cathay release, and it'll include the cavalry. Hence no battle march for tomb kings "yet" and the discounted wood elves one - gotta flog the new TK reinforcement box first and then let the paypigs wallets recharge before revealing the battle march boxes.
>>
>>98713426
Morathi lets Slaneeshi demons run a train on her.
And there are some Corsairs/agents that get sent to maintain relations with some Wood Elves.
Thats about it really. Everything else is an alliance of convenience or manipulation from the shadows.
Dark Elves, as of Temple of Spite lore at least, run massive spy and assassination rings throughout the world. They even had an entire High Elf merchant clan in Marienburg being run by a Dark Elf in disguise. They have loads of agents and catspaws running around and twisting the lesser races into doing what the Dark Elves want.
>>
>>98713470
Do agents and catspaws really expect dark elves to honor their agreements and not kill or enslave them for not being a dark elf the moment they can?

Wait, actually yeah they probably would. Although I kind of would think the Dark Elves do have to legitimately pay human/elf/dwarf spies frequently enough that the spy would risk it despite the chance of being made into rapeslave number 5801
>>
>>98713506
Depends. Most actually don't know they work for Dark Elves.
One of the most fascinating Elf bits in WFRPG that you don't really get in the wargame is how next to nobody can tell Elves apart unless they're in the know. Dark Elves often pose as High Elves. High Elves often pose as Dark Elves. Because their behaviours really arent that different.

Sea Elves often engage in piracy, just like Corsairs. Both are extremely arrogant and look down on every other race. Both are exceptionally beautiful and magically inclined. All a Dark Elf needs to do is show a bit of restraint and he can walk into Altdorf pretending to be a Sea Elf and only other High Elves could tell (and even then a lot of them can't tell either).

The Renegade Crowns army I'm planning is based on the idea of one of these spy rings based out of Sartosa actually. Some pirate and dogs of war stuff led by one of the old metal on foot dreadlords.

>>Sword/board seems like the obvious gear for your basic tarpit skeletons. The spears look much cooler though :(
build them with spears, use them with sword/board. cant imagine many people would complain as long as you mention it before the game.

>>

I wonder where Thuringia would be on this map.
>>
>>98713529
Pretty much. There's a bit in ToS where a couple of corsairs just stroll into an Empire shrine of Manaan to pay respects and everyone just thinks they're Elves. They have no idea. They're described as 'Strange Elves wrapped in scaled cloaks' IIRC.

The corsairs pay their respects and just walk out. I imagine a lot of that happens along the coast. Corsairs going into towns to trade while also scoping out the place for a future raid.
>>
>>98713470
>Morathi lets Slaneeshi demons run a train on her.
Oh like you wouldn't?
>>
>>98713529
Also doesn't help that High Elves basically don't want to talk about Dark Elves at all outside of a vague historical sense, it would be like someone asking about the differences between England and France, and the only thing they will discuss about it is the 100 years war.

Handgunners were monopose and came with the starter box so every bugger had a handful lying around somewhere.

The swordsmen were a multi-part kit that could be made as halberdiers right out the box, there were also metal bits to make them handgunners or crossbowmen. So in general there are just less of them around.

They were also oddly fragile so a lot got broken.

I mean we got two other armies of infamy that I think are fine, but every time they add new stuff for mages and new magic items for all armies I wish they would add some new runes that aren't just +1 to something but stuff that would alter how an unit or army works so that you can vary it up.

always thought it'd be cool if they put parts in to represent that the horse archers are a separate race to the Nehekharans as per the lore. Maybe some different motifs like face scarves, crescent moon brooches and more composite bows.

A ton of different ways, get creative.

Perhaps he doesn't want to use the term Golem simply because it's Jewish in origin, and doesn't want to compare Dwarfs with them.
>>
>>98715942
i think the reasoning originally was that using Golem was it offensive to jews for it to be used by a fantasy race same reason people had weird arguments over the word phylactery
Both are dumb
>>
>>98715942
>>98715973
His reasoning is EVEN MORE RETARDED than that. He said that a girl came up to him at some convention decades ago and said she was Jewish and found it uncomfortable that Warhammer used the term.
So so random cunt almost lost us use of the term Andy law is a pansy. Not huge public pressure. Literally one random woman.
>>
>>98715973
It indeed incredibly dumb, inconsequential, and unnecessary to change the used terminology, if that is the reason.
Particularly since Fantasy's Dwarfs - much like the vast majority of current-day iterations of that was - were based on Tolkien's Dwarves, who themselves were influenced by the jews

>>
>>98716171
From what I can tell the CEO Dom doesn't care about any of that shit and just wants them to make product. So SJW writing drama and delaying products due to refining rules lore was a big no-no.
>>
>>98716171
>The dude was likely very well protected by the hierarchy
of C7 or GW?
Since C7 seems like a tiny company, like they have maybe 40 full-time staff, and that after they expanded a lot
>>
>>98716180
>delaying products due to refining rules lore was a big no-no.
That has its own problems, mostly related to kinda borked rules that C7 release at times.
It's not like the 5e core rulebook is an unblemished tome of amazing rules
>>
>>98716184
At C7, GW doesn't care about Law.
It also looks surprisingly separated from the failed coup he tried to pull at C7, but I might be wrong.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I hate our current State Troops and Knights, so I'm kind of excited for a refresh, but I know GW could always make them more dogshit, so I'm worried. At least I don't play Brettonia, because those dogshit footknights have me terrified for their refresh. I guess the bright side is I already have enough stuff for my army, so if the Empire refresh sucks I can just ignore it.
>>
>>98716761

I keep hearing that the foot knights are bad but I don't actually see why. Did they fuck up the armor in some way or what? I see a woman, so that's a problem.

While the new models are definitely more detailed and realistic, I would argue that those are exactly the reasons why they aren't as good as the older models. Also, I think it's important to consider what the 5th ed plastic warriors represented back in the day. No longer did you need to buy blisters to bulk out your army (not necessarily a good thing, much was lost in the transition from blisters to boxes), you could get an entire regiment in a box and you even got to pose them however you wanted! What do these new chaos models have to offer compared to that? They're just another plastic kit in a sea of plastic kits. They don't even have weapon options, for God's sake! They're pretty, from a certain perspective, but that's about it. What do the new warriors represent beyond an attempt, failed or otherwise, to recapture the broad strokes of the 5th ed chaos aesthetic? They don't even fill their role as game pieces well, seeing as you can't customize them. The 5th ed kit had plastic halberds in the box and you could get metal halberds and two different sets of command squad bits from blisters and the 6th ed kit let you give them AHWs. Sure, they might release an upgrade kit for the new models later, but that doesn't justify only having hand weapons and shields in the box.

And what makes these new models good looking to you in the first place? Is it the poses? The armour? The weapons? What do you like about them, anon? I like the trim, helmets, and horns, but I don't like them as much as I do the trim, helmet, and horns on the 5th ed models. I like them more than I do the 6th ed ones (on which much is to be said, both good and bad), but the new ones just don't do it for me. But they should! These models were clearly designed to be iterations on the 5th ed aesthetic. I should have every reason to like them, but I just don't, or at least not enough to justify replacing my entire army with new sculpts, and that means they failed at what they intended to do.

As an empire collector, what are your issues with State Troops and Knights? I'm guessing scale, proportion and lack of decoration for knights but curious what a committed Empire fan dislikes.

>>98716916
You can't see it yourself? They're just ugly, in a cliched medieval fantasy soldier way. There are specific explanations, like they aren't historically accurate or inspired or the armour isn't functional enough but the truth is that if they were ahistorical and impractical but looked really cool people would like them.
>>
How are knightmare orc & goblin miniatures in terms of scale, compared to GW? I assume they'd slot in no problem, but their shop has basically no information. Anybody have any experience with them?

NTA, I like the knights, they're great, GW just need to relase spues for different knightly orders for them.
The State troops I find ok, but I'd prefer them to have les rnaodm crap on them, and more uniformity, in the lines of the Archers/Greatswords kits would be nicer to have.
Side note the art is horrible in TOW for them, maybe it's becasue i'm used ot older images and they get my mind going more than a drawing of the plastic model, but in 'real'

Also not mentioned so far is that they're like 9ft tall each when placed next to any other human infantry in the game. I know they're knights but the GW shill rebuttal of "they're rich so are more nourished than peasants" really didn't account for the huge height difference.

>While the new models are definitely more detailed and realistic, I would argue that those are exactly the reasons why they aren't as good as the older models

but good luck with that
