They prefer the extremely harsh lives lived on death worlds and the like because it makes a stronger base for the marine to be, physically and mentally (blood angels being a notable exception to the physical part of this). I have no idea what sort of selective pressures a paradise world could have that would be describable to a SM chapter unless if they were specifically told to recruit from such a world.

A Tithe Paid in Blood and Rot II.!

>his means (incense designed to slowly corrupt her, get her to indulge in surrendering control to first other people and then to faith, seeding his tainted scripture among other planets and hives over 10 years)
And other members of this cult network that he knows of: The "Teacher" at the top, underlings favored for managing to achieve surrender to the Gods without falling to any one in particular too far/being able to adapt and incorporate the polytheist pantheon into their worship rather than being stuck on one. The "Student of All" who is held up as a favorite champion of the cult, also the one taking longlas pot shots at them, likes playing with his "food" and people who interest him, like the acolytes - he sees it as testing them. Then individual cults held below them, dedicated to specific gods to ease people in to the worship of Chaos Undivided.
They discover that Vail is completely unable to name his teacher beyond the titles, or give specific information. Emilia the psyker tries to use her gifts to rip knowledge from his mind like a psychic interrogation, managing to find the following phrases, said in a voice not her own: "Ones like you are dozens, not hundreds. Chosen mortars, not simple brick." "A broken pawn is so troublesome." and finally "Held aloft by high and low alike" - a fragment of prophecy that Vail knew the Teacher followed.
As Emilia keeps trying her luck, Vail begins to seize, and is put down by Hastus and Durrana.

During the downtime, people buy various things, chiefly among them Hastus being bought a modified longlas by Durrana in exchange for effectively hiring him as a goon to work for her. He accepts and is paid in good booze plus a nice rifle. More importantly, Venria recieves summons from her order to give them an update as well as an explanation for "zeal that threatened the faith of those who tithe" aka half a political move and half a specific way to impede the sister as discussed with the player. Venria is summoned to a monastary-convent of her order by a Preceptor-Sister and Hospitaller, who recieve the update from the sister herself and issue the judgement. In short, her zeal is not punished, nor is her sacred fury, but the fact that she was unable to capture the man as she was ordered, and the context of making the risk of people losing faith in their sisterhood because the duke was only posthumously confirmed as a heretic.
Venria is taken apart from the others, bolter and sword stripped away and her armor's left hand is wrapped in heavy chains to render it nigh unusable with a weapon, mirroring an injury from her patron saint, while a chain flail is shackled to her other arm. Finally, a metal full helm and death-mask modeled after the saint is affixed to her face, micro-needles lining the inside deliberately causing her pain so that she suffers and repents without being sent directly to repentia. The helmet is locked to her armor, meaning she can't take it or the armor off without permission.

The session ends as the acolytes dig into some leads related to coded ledgers they looted and uncovered a connection to a "local" shipping company that handles transport of goods between this secter and neighboring ones, and they find a number of entries that are inconsistent with what was reported in other ledgers they found. They land in the local main spaceport when Emilia ends up collapsing from a psychic assault on her mind. As it turns out, using her psychic powers to try and poke at sorcerous/psychic compulsions may have attracted the attention of something else. Emilia ends up as the first to burn a fate point to resist death which is a fun portent of things to come.

TA. You probably don't realize it, but people don't normally get angry about accusations that aren't directed at them. They just say, "Yeah, that doesn't apply to me, I'm not that person," and they move on with their lives.
