>>98734108The answer I told everyone else was obviously Jester's Cap and Extract, but in truth it's a retooling of another card idea I had that turned mill effects into theft (was deemed a bit too much of an archetypal lynchpin for MBC), so I guess the "real" answer is technically Tasha's Hideous Laughter, since I think this playstyle is more engaging to play with and against than just Praetor's Grasp tribal. However the underlying play pattern I envisioned was Runick from YGO which I feel is a fair bit off unless R&D suddenly decides to print lots of exile mill for EDH (not likely because mill both sucks and there's not a lot of demand for better mill when Bruvac + mill half cards generally fill the niche).

I ordered a nearly entirely proxied deck from Printing Proxies. Does that make me a cool guy or a retard who wasted his money on literal worthless trash? My “pod” does not give a shit about official cards, but I can’t use it at anything more official.
current glup shitto that I am interested in optimizing for no reason. it's a 3 mana rampant growth with set mechanic but...>up to 2 cast triggers>leaves graveyard>power matters>discards for value>mills for valueit has a lot of little subtle things going on, I just can't seem to find the perfect commander for it. 3 mana, 4+ power commanders, like Baylen or Rhonas can turn it into an Explosive Vegetation, but I feel like there must be even better. Teval can mill over it and cast it for 1, but that requires you to miss his attack trigger most of the time which sucks. Toph can discard it for value when she etbs, which is great, but then she's 1 power short of casting it for 1. Terra can cast it for 1 if she just happens to mill over it with her ETB but you need to get lucky. The search continues...
>>98734386damn mh4 looks lit
>>98734078why is his race clown also thank you for this card >>98734177any chance of that mill -> theft concept coming in future sets?
>>98734474I guess these guys are okay with it since they can burst draw into it and then discard it as part of the same ability, then tap to play it for 1. But a 1 mana rampant growth is a bit less exciting when you're already on at least 5 manaWylie Duke draws a card when she taps to cast it, which is great. But can she consistently get it into the yard without double casting it? That would be even better. Hmmmmmm
>>98734474Seems easy to abuse in Raggadragga
>>98734261Legendary cards use a portion of their names to refer to their object rather than "this card"
>>98734508>Why is his race clown? The reason I gave is because it's a Jester's Cap reference, but I prefer saying it's because it's a self-insert card (which is also why he's an evil manlet).>Any chance mill->theft is coming in the future?Unlikely, because that concept is preceded by the notion of people wanting more mill support. As of right now R&D would prefer to just directly support theft because a bridge card would be somewhat volatile design space (e.g. Thought Scour is now pseudo Ancestral Recall, depending on execution). Mill support in general is a bit sparse because it's complained about a lot, but it also sucks really bad (even Bruvac isn't really mill when most people build him more like a combo deck with Maddening Cacophony), so it's hard to justify finding it space in a set when it works on such a different axis. A comparison I would give is how poison counters don't really show up unless the set is focused on them because they don't do anything without a full suite of support.

I know Redditors have this insane tendency to log every single win or loss they have. This guy I play with at the LGS sometimes asks people their commanders after a game. He logs every single game, who is commanders lose to, and then keeps tuning his decks. It's tragically autistic.
>>98735295My first thought is to play her like Rocco, Street Chef, with lots of pingers that do damage when artifacts come in. Academy Manufactor is insane value, obviously. The new red Craterhoof would be a natural fit as well. Maybe lean a bit into the theme with Job Select/Living Weapon Stuff? Phoenix King Ozai is an archenemy commander for sure right? I feel like there's no way to smol bean yourself out of the table hard focusing you the moment he comes down
>>98735502People love to counter him, since he's pretty expensive. Besides that, once he's on the field, it can quickly spiral out of control, especially if you have the draw to cast your huge spells.
>>98735502Probably. He kind of does all the things that make you an arch enemy. He has to immediately hit someone for a lot of flying Commander damage to activate his effects. You leave a massive pool of growing mana floating that everyone can see as a warning sign before you combo out. And by the time he comes down, you either have ramped ahead of everyone or are sitting on a full hand that scares them.
>>98735508>People love to counter him, since he's pretty expensiveThis is why I stopped running High CMC commanders in the command zone unless they have some built in cost reduction or protection against this stuff (or it's in green where CMC isn't as much of an issue), I'd rather get consistent use out of the card I always have access to and have bombs in the 99 instead.

Torn on which direction to take this deck via edits. Sometimes it feels like it's in desperate need of more answers. But then it hits one of its artifacts -> mana outlets (Urza or Ironheart) and feels extremely explosive. I'm looking to move away from the polymorph subtheme, but even cutting the outlier cards there's so few flex slots. The card draw outlets are just too necessary to cut, the tutors too valuable. Godo and Gilgamesh remain god-tier even if you're hard-casting them. Same with Iron Man and Ironheart. Slapping down a 4-mana Starwinder feels quite good as well.Thinking about greedily cutting Cyclonic Rift for a Chrome Mox, which in turn will take the place of a land, just to add some acceleration to the deck. In so doing Cyclonic Rift would become Soul Immolation, a pseudo wincon if I ever see Excalibur on my commander or a souped-up Godo/Gilgamesh.Also eyeing Dain Ironfoot from The Hobbit. Crazy effect in the deck for a 15-cent card. But damn there's just so many "cute" cards that don't equate to playing a responsible game.
>>98739442>ready for your 12th booster, planeswalker-anon?
>>98739680I'm also considering ninjutsu as a subtheme. My friend has a Higure ($20 lol) he can lend me, and there's some legitimately oppressive ninjas you can swap in via evasion. Mistblade Shinobi with flying early can be very annoying. Mist-Syndicate Ninja can get out of hand rapidly.
>>98739697>Mist-Syndicate Ninja can get out of hand rapidly. Can it though? The copies don't have evasion. It's just Spawnwrithe in a better color.
>>98739805Sure, but the first one being evasive means you already have two. One of your living weapons you just ninjutusu'd out of is free real estate to slap on next turn, and the deck runs upwards of 20 equipment so the odds of having more is high. Then once 2 is 4 it rapidly becomes "have a board wipe or lose" territory regardless of blocks.

Losing my shit only finding out now that Phyrexia has their own fat socal bitch
>>98739894He's waaaay way way too free. Gonna dread seeing him at any table. Putting polymorph itself into the command zone as a loyalty ability AND giving him 4 colors is crazy from a power level perspective. The deck's strategy becomes as effortless as it is blatantly telegraphed. You can assemble any number of weird combos with him that consist of generate token + cast commander for close to a deterministic win.I assembled this in b3 a while back, and even that felt like too much and I had to take it apart. I'd imagine just "having it" all the time will make for ultra-swingy games. You either hold up removal to keep the Jace from polymorphing or lose.

I went to a TCG tradeshow that was being held in my city. I was advertised as a generic TCG event, no specific game was mentioned. I go there, it is packed, but it is 99.9% PokemonTCG. Of the 0.1% that wasn't PokemonTCG, I saw Riftbound, Yugioh, and Lorcana. I didn't see a single Magic card at the event. Is it that Magic isn't popular, or that Magic isn't popular with the sort of demographic that is interested in the collecting and arbitrage / scalping portion of the hobby? Should Magic feel intimidated by PokemonTCGs success, or are Magic & PokemonTCG filling two different niches?
>>98739894>>98740177Unless you're running proliferate you'd be surprised just how bad polymorph as a planeswalker ability is. In play testing, I get Jace down early with ramp, but then I tick him down, get one of the garbage legendaries in the precon (sure this can be avoided by rebuilding the deck from scratch) and then he isn't going to polymorph again for multiple rotations.Nissa is unironically much better in the command zone, the problem is ramping into her without green. But I think with some Rituals and treasure generation she'd be more viable, and then you absolutely abuse the fuck out of landfall. Notably her ability triggers each turn while a planeswalker is only on your turn.
>>98740807In my experience Magic seems to sell better person to person, someone brings their binder to FNM and people look through and buy shit.People don't tend to horde cards to make a profit on them in the same way as pokemon.

If he gets cast at 5 mana, and you leave him be, it will be 3 turns before he can polymorph again. If you kill him, it will likely be 2 turns. Not worth putting resources into letting them polymorph sooner.
>>98741062Again, he's really not unless you're building proliferate. He ticks down -3 and ticks up +1. So even if you're okay with him dying to 0 loyalty, he takes there's 2 full rotations before he ticks down a 2nd time. And someone Lightning Bolts him? Oopsie, he's either dead or you're waiting 3 more rotations.Nissa is objectively the stronger commander but she's costed so heavily it makes it questionable whether she's worth putting in the command zone

>>98741479You don't put cards that are situationally good to polymorph into in the deck. The precon is horrible about it, but it is also insanely easy to fix. If you want to lean into tokens, Elesh Norn Grand Centobite is a good hit in basically any situation you could be polymorphing in. If you don't want a token focus, there are even more options. Astral Dragon and Nicol Bolas Dragon God are both at absolute worst a free respin. Nicol Bolas God-Pharaoh at worst exiles 2 cards from each opponents hand before he can get killed.
How do you store your decks /tg/? I have mine in double sleeves but it has to go into two deck boxes and I would like to reduce that to one. I've had a lot of deckboxes that reek after buying them so something that's not stinky would be good.

>>98741781>stanley tool organizersFatmax Deep Pro?
Do anons realize the thing that makes polymorph good is that it's supposed to cost much less than the creature you're polymorphing into? Even assuming you're always hitting something like an Emrakul that has reasonably sturdy protection, this whole line starts with 5 mana as a sorcery that sacrifices for targeted effect rather than for cost (or nontargeted effect). It genuinely just comes down to "counter the 5-mana obvious combo chokepoint or blow up the token they targeted." Creature removal is abundant in every color. Surely you can hold up 1 mana to explode a 1/1 white Soldier creature token.
