>Thread Question:
Hopes, fears, and expectations for /yourdudes/ in the End of Edition campaign?
>>
>>98747920
Ehhh I wouldn't say so. They're not too complicated to paint, but they're a pretty tricky army to play and not the cheapest either. Wouldn't say it's a bad army to start with or anything but there's easier choices. Though remember the best beginner army is always the one you actually want to collect.
>>
>>98747929
>TQ
>Hopes
Can’t have that with tzeentch lmao, so they’re probably gonna stay irrelevant. My arcanite cults will likely find a way to navigate through the impending chaos.
>fears
There are supposedly different human factions than cities with last world? While I’m honestly excited to see what they look like, I’m not sure I can adapt my cult to work with anything that’s not with the cities of sigmar, mainly the ones in ghyran.
>expectations
They’ll continue being jobbers with narry a mention
>>
Are Stormcast basically Order Undead or is there shenanigans that circumvent this reading of them?
>>
Do the End of Edition campaigns include new models for each grand alliance? So we can expect stuff for death, chaos, order and destruction?
>>
>>98748031
Pretty much. Seems like it’s mostly just center pieces. Not very excited for the rumors for them personally.
>>
>>98747929
>Hopes, fears, and expectations for /yourdudes/ in the End of Edition campaign?
Dude I don't think Idoneth will live to see the end of the next edition, if we do PLEASE GOD, not another foot hero
>>
>>98747929
Well let's see what's happened. CoS has dropped the elves and dwarves.

>hopes
That somehow the army of renown sticks around in 5e and I can larp CoS as it should be.
>fears
Can't cuck CoS any further, so honestly none.
>expectations
My dudes die in an explosion in Tempest's Eye and their's an extra paragraph about how all the non-humans never came back.

Yeah the current rumours are a wizard tower cogfort for Order, a chaos dragon for Chaos, a Ironjawz wyvern for Destruction and a zombie gargant for death

>>
>>98748085
Well seraphon is also rumored to get that quetz still. We also don’t know about the temple guard and endless spells.
>>
>>98748070
Go back to /wfg/ you spiteful little man
>>
>>98748072
Fuuuuuck dragons are so fucking boring, especially when we just got a fucking chaos dragon
>>
>>98747929
My hope for my faction is a new Infantry unit, I know people wanted foot Akhelians but I think Akhelians all being mounted is a key part of the visual design of IDK and highlights the caste system well. So instead I would pick Isharann infantry as a unit which would be a mashup of Eldar Warlock Conclave and High Elf Swordmasters
Also give me a Merwyrm mount
>>
>>98748072
The cogfort makes sense since they'd just need to add an upgrade sprue, but the rest? I think the chaos dragon and wyvern are TOS models and the zombie gargant was some conversion someone was working on, I don't see them putting a gargant in anything other than SoB
>>
>>98747929
>TQ
Skaven really feel like a complete army at this point, so I don't know. The only things they *need* are new Plague Monks, and maybe a return of giant rats or rat wolves so that Moulder isn't just "rat ogres and bigger rat ogres and bigger bigger rat ogres and the HPA".
Helsmiths aren't my dudes, but they could be if they got some better "big draw" models. The bullbot is fucking embarrassing and the artillery is underwhelming, but a Lammasu or Hellcannon could do a lot to make the army more appealing.
>>
>>98748210
Personally wouldn’t mind it. Granted I’d prefer drakes. Also the last dragon was a bit of a let down for a “chaos” dragon. I’m not expecting gore oozing out of every orfice but despite all its detail and its height I found it lacking. Really hoping gw follows the zombie dragon design when they make future dragons.
>>98748222

No, it was awful. Like yeah pulp is pulp, but this is "cocky girl child with magic" tier slop. If you want a decent read with Stormcast in it; read Hamilcar's book. Josh Reynolds knows how to write. You can tell when he has to phone it in(see Realmgate Wars) and when he actually wants to write. This book is of the latter.

Anons I made a fucking mistake, I assembled Ma today for my gargants (rip that fucking army unless you got the rockthrowers but whatever) I decided to kitbash a mancrusher too.

So I did some miliput work to give him a landschnect hat and little sash (sash isn't the best but I slapped some shields on it for fun) and he's chuggin' a whole barrel of ale. Then I used some old deffkopta blades and scrapped up a sword. Only problem is I did this all in one go with greenstuff and glue and I'm horrified that when I wake up tomorrow he's gonna be in fuckin pieces.

I know Spiderfang are getting squatted. They'll do something like tease Moonclan saving a matriarch with mushrooms or something but they'll genocide the rest.
Wanderers will unironically show up as City Aelves for a last stand against chaos despite CoS pogroms just before.
I hope Hobgrots exploit the Chaos to sack a Chorf city, hinting at their expansion while ushering in animosity as Chorfs cut ties and enslave a part of their kingdom as payment for stolen goods.

But is it worth the £195 price tag?
>>
>>98749420
You can buy it for ~160, so it looks like a fine deal if you want at least one and some fun
>>
>>98749420
I think if you and a friend both want a mega but haven't gotten around to it, it's a really nice deal AND you get a little meme gamemode out of it.
That is however a relatively specific set of circumstances, otherwise it's kind of an odd product.
>>
>>98749450
it's meant to trick people who want to play giants into a discount box whose discount is eaten up by stuff they would have never purchased otherwise, and by cutting corners on the extra sprues for brodd and beastsmasher
>>
>>98749420
It is cheaper than buying 2 megas separatly
>>
>>98749466
Even when not factoring in the terrain it's still a 30% discount on buying two megas, whlist of course not including brodd and the hammer option. It's decent if you can find somebody to split it with, or are interested in starting a SoB army with at least 3 megas, but otherwise not so much. Like I said, relatively niche market.
>>
>>98749490
>Even when not factoring in the terrain it's still a 30% discount on buying two megas, whlist of course not including brodd and the hammer option

>>
>TQ

>Hope
Helsmiths get a much needed range expansion (relatively) soon, and they're given something meaty narrative-wise for the end of the edition - maybe some headbutting with the new Khazalite faction.
>Expect
New releases with be further way than they ought to be, and Helsmiths will not be involved in the eoe narrative at all.
>Fear
Helsmith will be treated like every other dwarf faction in AoS. Their range will remain anemic and they will be functionally irrelevant to the setting.
>>
>>98749466
What would even be a retail price for 2 mega in a box?
I think it is a fine box with nice game inside, but it was a missed opportunity to release new Mega legs. They could have tied it to this box and it would be instantly more tempting for SoB palyers
>>
>>98749490
It might literally be all of the older stock of pre Brodd mega sets that they didn't move before the Brodd set came out. The terrain is just left overs from unsold warcry/spearhead printings, once again repurposed.
I am generally confused as to why they included the stupid game, they don't do cardboard printing in house, so that is literally the most expensive part of the set, production wise.
So much time, money and effort is wasted over at GW it boggles the mind.

Not all of him, he's significantly weaker than he used to be (And in AoS he's called Morrda)

But he's firmly Sigmar aligned and when a Stormcast starts going too crazy from being reforged too much, he allows them a true final death via one of his blessed executioners in the Ruination chamber

He was always vaguely mentioned as being around since 2nd ed, but him becoming much more important in 4th is one of the few cool new lore bits from this edition

NTA but what is the desalination between dead and undead? It feels like the line between necromancy and Shyish is blurred or is it a venn diagram now? WFB went long ways to talk about how necromancy was literally radioactive and gay and cringe in AoS it’s like a daily occurrence. That blurb makes me think the difference is that undead are usually subordinated or enslaved while the dead are typically free-willed?

It's really not heavy lifting to state directly what they had in exactly one book, order demons tag that got taken out pretty quick since GW decided not to go in said direction.
>>
>>98752021
Nagash corrupted the wind of Shyish when he became a god, so necromancy itself is part of the wind now

That being said, yes there is a difference between undead that have been raised by necromancy and "natural" undead like ancestor spirits, etc

Morrda is still about the peaceful, final death that even Nagash can't come back from. While in the realm of Shyish you can communicate with the various afterlifes that exist there, but once they're absorbed by the Nadir they leave Shyish forever and nobody has any idea what happens to those souls

Stormcast aren't undead though, Morrda just lets their souls be worked on by Grungi's smiths and reforged

Heroes can attach to specific units (infantry -> infantry, cavalry -> cavalry, etc) but monsters stay solo

Regiment system was a decent idea that is awful to try to retrofit onto existing armies, probably best to just get rid of it OR make Regiments give some sort of bonus to the army, like Detachments

Make a Mighty Battles campaign system, including official map tiles
>>
>>98752315
Honestly, remove the double turn. It’s too hard to both disincentivize gaming it for someone who looks like they’re “behind” while also making it good for the underdog to actually have gotten it.
More and better choices on hero trait, artifact, spell lores, and other 1 per army tables.
Subfactions/Battle formations expanded by offering an optional hero trait and artifact. Better special rules choice for picking that subfaction.
Remove AoA and AoD.
Take the terrain = objectives thing from 40k.
Remove Once Per Turn (Army).
Remove the possibility of doing nothing on the 2/3+ rolls. I paid points for a unit to do that thing, if it has the opportunity to, I should be able to do it or else I’m gonna want to roll 2/3+ to not pay the points for that unit, too.
Remove regiment restrictions and instead regiments are 1 commander and 1-2 sub-commanders + 3 units(4 for general reg), with those two as new keywords or included in the battle profiles page.
That’s off the top of my head that also fulfills the need to not make indexes.
>>
>>98752364
>>98752382
Oh, thanks.
Alternate to my commander/sub commander idea is attaching foot heroes to units via battle profiles or shared keywords.
>>
>>98752364
>including official map tiles
Why don't they already sell that? I think the last time they included something like it was the map in Firestorm.
>>
>>98752315
every army and battlefield set gets a deck of cards of random events, opportunities, and effects
instead of controlling an objective by standing with as many models as possible inside a circle you just stand closest to it and if the enemy is as close to it as you are then either both or neither get shit
the prices of boxes are now the point costs, and the stats and rules of units get rebalanced around those
you can field multiple small armies from different factions, as long as the total points value is met and the armies selected stick to an ally matrix
basic troops have recursive mechanics as a common thing, while large models have personalised damage tables depending on where and how they've been hit, including specific ways to interact with other large models
mortality is diminished severely and instead mechanics that push and bait enemy units are common
movement trays to turn units of 20 models into 5 larger bases of 4 models are implemented
>>
>>98752315
Alternating activations
More traits and artifacts
Pay for models in a unit instead of one squad/reinforced (like oldhammer/tow does)
Actually keep successful seasonal units instead of throwing them all out when the new season starts
>>
>>98752382
>remove once per turn (army)
A take held by people who either want to go back to the glory days of 9 stormdrakes/dracoths, or by people who have given it no thought. Irritating though it may be, this change has made lists infinitely more diverse as opposed to taking 6 of the same thing. Tables look like proper armies because of this rule.
>>
>>98752477
Couldn’t rules with that just have limited uses per turn instead of either once or infinite?
>>
Armies look like a case of singleton sometimes to me idk.
>>
>>98752477
I was in a rush to type my original block, but I should’ve clarified that they could add a number of uses per turn. Or it could have a reduced effect or harder to pull off for each subsequent use. It just fucking sucks to pay the same amount of points for two of the same units and then only one ever able to do what it says on the box. It just feels like punishment rather than restriction.
>>
>>98752486
>Get rid of once per turn (army)
>Add twice per turn (army)

I would rather just suck it up and run one reinforced unit. It's restrictive but it's elegant. Going past that you start to get into the territory of putting a bunch of tokens on stuff or remembering which two of your three identical units did the thing.
>>
>>98752486

>>
>>98752528
I think I understood that here >>98752549 and I stand by this reply. 4e is actually great from a list building and variety perspective. People HAVE to make their lists interesting simply because you can't run just the most recent OP warscroll ad nauseum.

Yes, 2e was cool because you could run a list of three different armies in a Chaos or Order soup, and the abilities were exciting and flavorful, but at the end of the day, you either accepted a 35% win rate or you bought six of the same list in order to play endless mirror matches against an identical list.
>>
>>98752587
>People HAVE to make their lists interesting simply because you can't run just the most recent OP warscroll ad nauseum.
I don’t disagree with you, but this would be a better situation if all factions had similarly sized unit rosters. There’s a reason IDK is basically forced to spam eels or last years sharks. Because the faction has both an internal balance and unit choice issue and not taking advantage of them was actively handicapping yourself. Just because a list is “interesting” in that it has a wide unit variety doesn’t mean it’s going to be fun to play or play against. We’ll have to see how the recent foot hero restriction lifting pans out, but up until now it felt more like I was playing a “build” instead of my army.

Yeah, Spearheads have increasingly become more and more aggressively "stock clearing" coded.
>>
>>98753299
I don't think it's necessarily clearing stock (that's not really a thing) but they're definitely shittier now. Recycled warcry units, doubling up on (usually older) kits, including named characters, ... all to discourage you from buying multiple and to get some more sales on kits they usually don't sell much of.
Looking through the list of spearheads almost every single new one is a downgrade compares to the old version. There are exceptions, like the idoneth one, but it's still very apparent. I mean holy shit new kharadron, new nurgle, new seraphon, ... all ass compared to the great first iterations.
I feel bad for the rules guys who somehow have to make the shit they get sent by corporate into a decent army.

I just hope Fyreslayers don't end up dissapearing later down the line. Sure, have them be a subarmy of the Khazalites, that's alright. I just hope they keep on existing even if just with scraps, magic fire Dwarf barbarian mercenaries is such a cool fucking concept and there's still so much more they could expand the faction with model-wise, they don't have to look all exactly the same across like 4 different units in total.
>>
>>98753829
I dont know if I want them to be separate lines like how orrucks are dealt with or they are all considered one big line. >>
>>98753829
I think they're fine for the time being, but man them getting nothing but another foot hero out of this whole mess was hilariously spiteful
I think the vulkyn did show their potential and if they ever feel like it they can build on those designs to revitalize the faction. Being souped does take the pressure off of them a bit though, they don't have to perform to the level of a full faction which was never going to happen with their unfortunate range distribution.

Undead pirates army rule idea: Cursed Doubloons
>Each battle round, you gain doubloons from charging, capturing terrain, killing units, and other equally fascinating piratey actions
>Each character has a Treasured ability, which triggers when you cash in the requisite doubloons, like a flat x" charge result or increasing the number of attacks on their main weapon

Based Kratos ogres
>>
>>98754519
They were born from the craze for pirates of the carribbean and never went through a proper designing and writing process, instead they're based on the kind of armylist a fan would make, which is inevitably full of questionable and/or redundant concepts and silly conversions, and no in-depth exploration of the faction, which is perfectly ok, and even great, when it is a thing made by a fan for fun, but it's not when it's meant to be given the pass over official things get.
But most people against the faction are not really levying any criticism towards the specific unit as much as having a knee jerk reaction to the fact its REAL canonisation outside of white dwarf happened with total war, which marked it as a thing from and for secondaries, exacerbated the above problems with even more over the top and even more redundant units, and surprisingly enough even less cohesive or explored fluff, because it inglobated previously unrelated things with little explanation.

And this >>98756181, the presence of vampires immediately ruins the whole thing because they hog the spotlight, make their pastiche gothic-bat aesthetic obligatory, and don't allow the faction to be anything but an interesting reskin of vampire counts.
>>
so what we're saying is that they would be better if they were liche coasts

>>
>>98756267
Pirates are a compleatly separate tribe in that set though.
>>
>>98756208
They would be better if the focus was on pirates instead of vampires is what I'm saying.

Ideally a faction has to provide the basis for someone to add anything you want related to the theme, the point of lizardmen is to give you every dinosaur and virtually any type of lizard person once you include sacred spawnings and the 3 subspecies of skink, saurus and kroxigor, plus anything you could possibly find related to precolumbian mesoamerica including the ancient alien memes; ideally a warhammer faction or pirates (because the core of the appeal is fantasy pirates more than specifically vampire pirates or even undead pirates) should give you the room for undead pirates, cursed davy jones pirates, normal pirates and other fantasy sea-related things like fishmen and maybe even cthulhu, so the center of the faction cannot be vampires, it has to be something that could connect to all of these, and stromfels would be the perfect candidate for that, but vampires cannot be the center of the faction or even the center of the undead branch of the faction.

Make a unit of lesser gnashtoofs hounds for the boss on dog, maybe with optional hobgrot riders for good measure.

Then make a unit of slave siege giants for the breakaboss to lead, because the parallel between the breakaboss and the fusil major must continue and cos got a pair of gate giants.

Then make a generic shaman ride on a howdah on top of a terrorpin tortoise, which can have conveniently long legs to look almost like an elephant or the creature from the mist.

Finally a melee special character on a fat giant terror bird to complete the prophecy of the hands of gork and mork.

Your only hope for an aos rts is for total war to pick the ip up after 10 years of total 40k because gw won't give them the 30k IP unless they do aos as well, like it's the case with rpg books.

They can't release too many undead factions close to one another because the player overlap is too large since they were all once one army.

>some back and forth attacks between the grand alliances happen, such as dwarfs with lizards attacking chaos, or the "claw of gork" (a new ironjaw on wyvern) bashing up order and chaos and forcing sigmar to ally with one of his old enemies (unclear who, probably nagash)
>eventually chaos makes a big push for azyr and breaches it, also along the way slaanesh gets freed and archaon and sigmar have a big final duel
>somehow, sigmar pulls off his long foreshadowed plan to glue the realms together, but this comes with only a few pieces (specifically the ones we got maps for over the years) getting saved and jigsawed together into a new "last world", while the rest of the realms are destroyed
>an unknown timeskip happens, might be 100 or 1000 years, but most characters are immortals, and the ones who aren't (like thalia) seem to be getting deus-ex-machina'd across the timeskip
>the new world looks somewhat like the old world, in the sense that the surviving bits and bobs of the realms are arranged in a familiar way (ie elven realm as an island in the middle of the ocean, and chaos once again at the poles)
>the new map has new factions that probably exist just in the backdrop and to inspire proxies (there's a convenient not!bretonnia and not!kislev, a japanese faction, a chinese one of evil snake worshippers, and even a chaos faction with blackpowder)
>the timeskip is used to ramp up the grimdark further, the cities of sigmar grow further apart and stormcasts lose their recyclability (instead they pass the mantle to new people upon death)
>there are also two stories over what happened in the big final battle: chaosfags believe archaon killed sigmar for good, sigmarfags believe sigmar defeated archaon and then went into a secret quest
lots of characters die, but mainly ones that either could be reborn/reforged or magically survive one way or another, while characters that would die to the passage of time get conveniently sequestered into a time dilation chamber
