What are your thoughts on overused homebrew cliches like traitor legion successor space marine chapters?

Overused tropes are acceptable for <your dudes>. Just because it's overused doesn't make it uncool. What makes it uncool or cool is the rest of the stuff that goes into it.

A good concept and got overused real fast. I think it got overused quickly because the concept isn't utilized that much canonically. Only "subtly hinted at" by official canon.
I think they are an "emergency break glass" kind of thing along with nostalgia related things GW keeps for later use when GW wants to really boost sales for something for BL or a video game or something else or a reboot of Imperial Armour. It just hasn't been done yet and nobody is sure what GW's official stance on it is beyond BL authors.
>and
Honestly I collect guard. I'm not sure what the equivalent is.
>>
>>98748434
>TQ

I think it doesn't matter. Maybe I'm biased because I have seen the appeal myself, due to relating more to traitor primarchs but liking loyalist ideology and aesthetics better, but I think I'm a hobby like 40k as long as you're having fun it's all good. The lore is deliberately designed to be murky and loose to allow for creativity like that. It's not like a concrete a to b story where someone writing fanfiction might just butcher the essential themes and ideas of the story just by including the wrong trope
>>
If GW MTO'd the classic sanguinary guard and death company kits they'd make a gazillion dollars.
>>
>>98748453

I can think of the Ashen Claws space marine "chapter" that if I recall correctly is a Raven Guard Legion successor that made their own little domain ongoing since the Heresy.
If the firstborn marines are ever to return if GW gets rid of the Horus Heresy and 40k separation autism I'd hope that they do it by using the Ashen Claws rulebook as a "bridge" to allow HH stuff to be used in 40k.
If done right.

>Imperial Armour reboot
Cyraxus isn't coming ever. I read somewhere that the planet was referenced in an HH book said to be "missing." Might be a tongue in cheek joke at how it is gone for good. A bit morbid though.

What was Fires of Cyraxus supposed to be about beyond the Admech vs Tau?
>>

It is a little overused, but it's also good. It's like complaining about hearing In The Air Tonight on the radio; like yeah it's gonna be played a lot, man, it fucking kills.
>other TQ
The one I see most for my army (CSM) is "oh we're chaos marines but we don't actually WORSHIP chaos, we just use it like a tool", which I entirely blame the hacks at Black Library for.
>>
>>98748475
what is it with the tangential stuff that gets to ignore primer-ass but everything else is Mk Xir Titicus bullshit?
>>
>Huron Blackheart has a book made by Mike Brooks
>Refuse to read it as that retard writer adds LGBT to every book of his
>Apparently gets a sequel but written by a different author aka Marc Collins
How does this work? Oh please let this author kill off Mike's gay couple.
>>
I understand the instinct to gatekeep and it's definitely very necessary in 40k, and people who only larp the IP from video games and loretubers are annoying, but at the same time no one has the time to read even 70% of all the black library novels that come out, so it's not like you can judge larpers off of that material like you could with a single linear series

What's the best filter then? Codex lore? I feel like that could work since it filters for people who actually play the main game without excluding everyone who doesn't want to read 100 C tier novels
>>
>>98748487
Best filter is models.

The newest Tau wargear (Taunar, Hazard Suits, R'varna and Y'vahra) vs the oldest Mechanicum tech (real castellax, vorax, thanatars, and probably thallax too). Basically the Tau stumble across that Imperium's old storage shed and either unleash an Ancient Evil© or get taught how the Imperium USED to be technologically supreme. I like to imagine it would devolve into a pissing contest where the Tau uncharacteristically overextend themselves trying to overcome precious tech the mechanicus would rather evacuate and preserve and end up turning a viable world into glass and slag in the meantime.
>>
>>98748493
Honestly that's fair, but I feel like to some degree even if you have models if you are a complete lorelet people are going to reject you to some degree. Maybe if you have enough models it doesn't matter though

>>

>>
>>98748487
Just stick with people who play the game or at least paint models. That filters 99.9% of the stinky poor dumb people because 40k tabletop is a semi-pricy hobby. Talking to lorefags and gamefags will just annoy you
>>
>>98748487
I have lots of models (some painted, more built but not painted, and plenty in my pile of shame), and listened to the galaxy in flames audiobook. Still haven’t played in an actual game.on table because holy fuck building an army takes time
How larper am I?
>>
>>98748486
>Mike's gay couple.
What would happen first?

>Disgruntled CAD sculptor has a manic episode and leaks all the CAD files all getting leaked from GW and converted to STLs?

>Mike Brooks going one Black Library Warhammer book without putting any gay stuff in it?

>A pirate library website of 'near CAD' plastic scans that GW can't bring down?

>Games Workshop lowering Warhammer prices to Gunpla prices?

>Official Warhammer 3D printers to print official STLs?

I'm under the impression that the way Mike Brooks inserts that stuff is usually in an "inorganic" way. It breaks immersion and the reader usually goes "yep Mike is doing his Brooks thing again" at this point.
Personally I think he gets off to it in a "own the chuds" sort of way.
>>
>>98748512
Hm, yeah, perhaps, but I do like the lore too, it's what got me into 40k in the first place
>>98748513
Almost certainly not larp

At the end of the day gatekeeping is about getting rid of people who don't appreciate what makes a work truly special at it's core and who will try to change it/skinsuit it

Then again that's just my opinion. I don't even have 1k painted points yet either and I've only played the game a handful of times with borrowef armies. I opened this line of questioning because I was wondering how to really become a true fan myself
>>
>>98748498
I like to "headcanon" that the Mechanicus at first think the world isn't worth it against the Tau then suddenly after they decide to abandon the planet they learn the planet is like you said a "shed" but the vaults are Vraks armory world tier big and then Mechanicus goes back to take planet back and tell Tau to get off their lawn and their tech is mechanicum property.
Violence ensues.
The ancient tech is awakened and utilized to fight back the Tau's encroachment on conquering the planet.
Majority of ancient Heresy tech destroyed because Forge World prices bottleneck actual appearance of the stuff on tabletop.

If you’re talking to someone who plays the tabletop, they probably expect you to know the bare minimum lore. Like, imagine being passionate about building/painting armies and talking to someone who also paints minis. Then, you ask the other guy what he likes about the faction of the mini he’s painting and the dude barely knows jackshit. Downright peculiar
>>
>>98748512
>Talking to lorefags and gamefags will just annoy you
I don't understand the disdain for lorefags and "gamefags." Can this be explained to me?
Also does "gamefags" mean vidya game fags or just into the tabletop game fags or both?
I am reminded that a troll tried to push the "paintfags" meme here and it was excellent bait. Got me too.
I also remember someone I think trying to fight this general's mentality by calling it a "nerd hierarchy."
I don't know why I remember this useless stuff instead of real proper stuff.
>>
>>98748481
Implying Caedo wont be mortally wounded in the game and the ending wont be him being taken to Ultramar to undergo the procedure to survive.

I always thought the Lord of Skulls is cool. Even when people hated it.
I did like the idea of it being on legs though.
I wonder about what kind of wacky conversions have been made with it. I do want to see a good STL recreation of it so I can go autism on the STL in Blender.

>>
>>98748540
Gamefags are usually only Darktide+Space Marine players, with the occasional dawn of war player (if they’re based)
>>
>>98748539
Yeah. Or like imagine you're a csm player and you play a game against a guard army and you make some joke about destroying cadia and he says "cadia? Is that where the cadian squad comes from? I don't really know anything about it desu"

You would be weirded out for sure
>>
>>98748551
Should be called "vidyafags" then to avoid confusion.
>>
>>98748540
I kind of get disdain for people who only play the video games because it gives a very narrow view of the potential of the 40k setting. People who are into lore and not tabletop though... i mean if they just read the wiki and watch youtube videos occasionally I kinda get why people would look down on that, but if they actually read the books and just aren't into tabletop games that seems okay to me
>>
>>98748487
Warhammer is a tabletop miniature war game, so engaging in the hobby to that end is the most straightforward and effective filter. It’s easy to bitch about Primaris on the internet, it’s much harder to build an army non-Primaris Space Marines as the obvious solution to the problem.
>>
>>98748560
>if they actually read the books
Those are worse than the wikifags, honestly
>>
>>98748495

>>
>>98748562
Yeah that's fair I guess. You wouldn't consider someone a star wars fan if they had only watched the clone wars and never the originals, or for a closer example, you wouldn't consider someone a halo or sonic fan if they only watched the show/movies.
>>98748573

Secondaries try to be a part of the hobby but without access to the source material. This results in things like fan wikis inventing lore out of nothing or getting key details of the setting completely wrong.
Watching a youtube video isn't enough because breadtubers are often completely wrong.
>>
Question for 4th edition anon, is putting marines on 32mm bases blasphemy of the highest order? I don't have an easy source for marines that would fit on 25s besides proonting and I'd rather keep proonting to a minimum. I was thinking of using heresy kits for my marines but I don't think those would comfortably fit on 25s.
>>
>>98748665
32s didn't exist back then. It was 25 and 40 standard iirc. I wouldn't care since marines look dumb on 25s
>>
>>98748666
I know they didn't, I know they went on 25s, hence my question if putting 'em on 32's is a bad idea. But if it ain't I'll just go for using heresy era kits to make my marines. TYVM
>>
>>98748622
When does it go too far? I get the "poser" slang from skateboard culture where people adopted skateboarder aesthetics but never did skateboarding. But this is for miniatures and Warhammer 40k.
Did the terms "secondary" or "post models" even reach the normie sites the xwitters and even plebbit?

>>98748642
I think that model got the finecast treatment so an STL scan will suffice and you can say it is resin.
>>98748662
>breadtubers
What is that term? Those are still a thing?
>>
>>98748668
I think it's a bad idea in that I disagree with the anon saying they look bad on 25s but also the footprint of a squad on 32s vs on 25s is pretty huge and greatly affects the kind of terrain you can use (which is one of my problems with the modern game in general). Having said that I don't think only having access to marines on 32s should stop you enjoying playing an older ruleset if you have someone to play with. Just that ideally you'd have the right size for the best experience.
>>
>>98748665
Most of the people you'd expect to play with a decades old rule set won't be waacfags, so slightly bigger bases that actually fit your models shouldn't be a problem. If they're autistic about it they might not approve of playing with new sculpts anyway.
If you already know who you'll be playing, just ask them. If it's just for decoration, go with bases that fit the model.

>>98748642
Im still on the fence due to a mix of sticker shock and not wanting to build a pile. The goff rockers are tempting.
>>
>>98748676
>Did the terms "secondary" or "post models" even reach the normie sites the xwitters and even plebbit?
Idk about the culture of challenging people to show models but I have seen people use the term secondary on twatter and I think even youtube
>>
>>98748642
>does gw doing this imply anything?
This is the new normal. They rotate between 40k, Fantasy/TOW and MESBG reissues. MESBG just had an MTO a few weeks ago.
>>
>>98748665
Not that anon, but going off the beaten path would be between you and who you’re playing a game with. You’re seem to be using proxies anyways, so that conversation of “Is this okay?” will happen regardless.
>>
>>98748676
>What is that term?
Leftist youtubers. No idea why anon invoked it here though. Are most loretubers leftist?
>Those are still a thing?
Unfortunately yes
>>
>>98748677
>Just that ideally you'd have the right size for the best experience.
The idea I have is I'll be running demo games of this at my LGS in the hopes that people will find the joy of older editions within themselves and mauybe collect their own army for it? Hopefully? IDK. I don't wanna play 11th anymore!
>>98748678
>If you already know who you'll be playing, just ask them.
Which is relevant to this as well, since I'm the one spearheading this endeavor, it's entirely up to me, but if I encourage people use 25s instead of 32s then it kinda leads to this awkward moment where people who don't have access to marines that fit on 25s can't really play or are "unbalanced" I guess against armies that are based properly. My goal is to inspire someone to want to play an older edition with me with their own dudes... if I'm not successful then it'll just be playing the same 4 factions again and again, which I guess I;m mostly fine with, maybe I'll expand my storage options soon so I can have more than 4
>>

Don't forget the old reliable "this chapter's founding chapter is unknown"
>>
>>98748685
>Are most loretubers leftist?
NTA, but yeah.
They like the aesthetics of 40k but hate the lore due to the nature of the Imperium, so they try to molest it into something more palatable, like asserting that 40K is satire and the Emperor was mean for no good reason.
>>
>>98748688
I think the attitude you need to take in to something like this and cultivate in others is to strive for authenticity but it's not the end of the world.
>>
>>98748716
I agree but I also see the fact that marines that can easily fit on 25s isnt as easy to come by as say heresy marines. If I had total control of the situation (including what's available) it'd be so, but alas.

Hey everyone it's once again time for the collage anchor posts.
This month's theme was "Retro" and was left to your own interpretation. Could be an old model, a super vibrant vintage scheme, a final farewell to firstborn or something else you feel fit the theme.
I'll try to post an anchor every thread but if you can't spot me write"here is my september collage submission" and it'll be way easier to find you in the archive.

Here is the link to next month's vote
https://strawpoll.com/kogjRP4kEg6

Also want to give a heads up that regardless of the winner next month will have an optional spooky theme. We'll do that for all seasonal themes going forward.
Also changed "plasma" to plasma/energy weapon. Any weapon that glows should be fair game if it wins I think.

Fair enough. It was only a matter of time before GW would find out and start doing things. I wonder where the next place to move to will be.
I need an anime buygroup for some STLs of anime vehicles and spaceships.
I also need to sort my 40k STL collection pronto. The many "unsorted folders" are getting too big. How do you organize your STLs?
Right now I'm pondering just dumping all my STLs from the harddive onto my computer and hopefully if nothing is damaged in the transfer I just rearrange everything then put them all back in the external hard drive.

I organize my STLs by creator at the moment. I'm not sure if the filesystem I use supports "custom tags" at the moment. I haven't looked it up yet. But I plan to punch in tags on models. That way I can tell what model is what. For now I only know via creators. I don't have all the channels and I want to support some STL makers. But I also don't want to waste so more money than I usually do.
What I need at the moment is a "buygroup" that is trustworthy for STLs. There's a guy who makes wonderful STLs and is relatively unknown. Total amount of models I like will run me 1k Canadian dollars.

I guess I can write up a little bit

>The Blood Sages are an Ultima Founding Chapter of Space Marines descended from Sanguinius. Their Chapter Master Gottfron and Chapter Champion Ricohardt are their greatest heroes. These two Marines were born during the Horus heresy and were part of the first generation of Cawl's experiments, and as such were privileged to lay eyes on some of the great heroes of the Imperium, including Sigismund and Sanguinius himself. Because of this personal connection, they work hard to live up to the legacy they have inherited. They are also both psykers, which is perhaps expected in a Chapter such as the Blood Sages, which has an exceptionally large Librarius for its size. Arriving with Guilliman to rescue Baal during it's Devastation, they earned the respect of the firstborn sanguinary brethren by fighting hard to protect the resting place of Sanguinius himself by defilement by the enemy. After this battle, they recieved three gifts from their senior brothers. First, 12 suits of terminator armor were given to them by various chapters in thanks for the relief they gave in battle; these are the only 12 suits the chapter posesses, due to the shortness of resources in the current day in the Imperium. Second, as a welcome into the Sanguinary brotherhood, the Armory of the Arx Angelicum itself provided one of the legendary Archangel's Shard swords to the chapter. It is currently used by Ricohardt. Greatest of all, in memorial of their defense of the Primarch's resting place, Dante granted the chapter a new name, allowing them to be reborn as the Nimbus Guard, and granting Gottfron the title Defender of the Holy Sarcophagus.
>>
>>98748997
>After this the chapter remained near Baal for several months, assisting in driving off the remnants of the Tyranid fleet and rebuilding the shattered sector. During this time Gottfron did as much as he could to learn from Dante's excellent leadership. The naturally callous primaris marines at times found the behavior of their Firstborn brothers to be peculiar, especially in regards to mortal allies. It was not natural to them to be much concerned with regular Imperial citizens, but during this time the chapter's battle brothers began to learn to be angels of salvation as well as angels of death. This time of learning was also essential in helping the chapter's special branches learn to most effectively make war in the way of the sanguinary brotherhood. Librarians studies the famous spellcraft of Mephiston's librarius, including the ability to soar on crimson wings from the empyrean. Ricohardt in particular greatly admires Mephiston, and commissioned a sword in the style of Vitarus to wield alongside the Archangel's shard in his characteristic dual sword style. Additionally, the relatively inexperienced chaplains of the Nimbus Guard learned a great deal about effective management of the Black Rage and the Death Company, and the chapter's Apothecaries were finally able to study the specific traditions of their lineage and grow into Sanguinary Priests. In the present day the Chapter is making great strides in the endless quest to stabilize the Imperium Nihilus, and has succeeded in building up several worlds into a far more defensible state with the help of some unexpected allies.
>>
>>98749001
>However, they are largely unaware that a storm is brewing on the horizon, in no small part as a consequence of the machinations of Gottfron's close ally, the radical Inquisitor Raquel of the Ordo Hereticus. A powerful psyker who sees great potential in humanity's latent supernatural abilities, Raquel helped shape the entire chapter's philosophy and approach to pyschic power through his many deliberations with their chapter master. However, the warp is a dangerous and fickle thing, as are the byzantine internal politics of the Inquisition...

That's good stuff anon. Thank you for sharing. I actually have a bit of autism over making sure my dudes will fit well in the 40k universe. For me the "crutch" will be hypno indoctrination from the HH but instead it is done by psykers. I'm not sure if this already exists. I think I remember Wyrdvane psykers having Telekinesis. So for this regiment it is to "install knowledge" into the heads of other psykers and then they send it off to the guardsmen.
That's just a concept I've been tinkering with.

No that might not be it. I do remember an 8th(?) guard codex part about psykers using telepathy or communicating with other psykers with his mind only. I'm not sure. I might be misremembering.

That is true. I sometimes wonder if the Imperium Nihilus was GW trying to create the chaos wastes but in Warhammer 40k.
Weren't the Ghoul/Halo Stars meant to be the Chaos Wastes of 40k?
>>
>>98749090
>Weren't the Ghoul/Halo Stars meant to be the Chaos Wastes of 40k?
Not really, they were more of the HERE THERE BE DRAGONS unexplored regions of a map. Places full of dangers and oddities that might be chaos related but could very well be their own form of incomprehensible terror

So in a strange way they might be the 40k equivalent of the Star Wars "unknown regions" of the galaxy? I know the Imperium is supposedly a few million worlds or a million worlds across a sea of billions of Stars orbited by planets.
But even the 40k galaxy feels like it deserves it's own unknown region to me. Even if the majority of the galaxy is unexplored or lost so might as well be unexplored now because of warp jump tech.
>>98749096

The denizens of shrine world Taldeerismywaifu, they are a secretive group of eldar exodites. Their guardian world spirit was murdered by Slaanesh, and in one last act of defiance before death she flung the planet into a ripple of space hidden from Slaanesh's sight. They know drawing it's gaze would mean instant death without the protection of a world spirit, so they keep a low profile and don't use much technology and don't draw attention to themselves. They only leave their planet though the webway when their farseers deem importance. They don't even seek resources from other planets, and using what they have on hand results in them using outdated equipment, replacing tanks that are destroyed with dinosaur mounts, and even their bonesinger's creations are made from reshaped natural bone. Their dinosaur mounts are valued and respected, well taken care of by the entire society, and are their allies in battle. When they die, they use every part of their bodies right down to the bone, which is used to make structures and saddles and even their wraith constructs. The dinosaur souls are also welcomed into the planet's spirit ecosystem, and the largest of the dinosaurs inhabits a wraithknight, still fighting like a dinosaur by stomping around and running into melee.

They just want to be left alone, but when they do interact with other species they are friendly if possible, since everything pales in comparison to the real threat to all life, chaos. They have shown up to help Guard and SoB (my other armies) and then left without a word.

The death of their world spirit defines their culture, and they are all grim people ready to make the same sacrifice in the fight against chaos, but they also embrace the parental nature of sacrificing for your children like their guardian did, so they're not resentful. It's their duty, as the elder species, to guide the younger species on a better path and leave behind a better galaxy. One dinosaur at a time.

>So in a strange way they might be the 40k equivalent of the Star Wars "unknown regions" of the galaxy?
Yes, exactly. Every space fantasy needs a spot where the "map ends", so to speak, where the writers can slot in whatever stuff that doesn't fit the standard paradigm of the known world. And any attempts to elaborate on it or fully explain it is always a mistake (lookin at you, Vong)
>But even the 40k galaxy feels like it deserves it's own unknown region to me.
The chaos wastes aren't unexplored, they're inhabited and very well known. The Eye of Terror has always been the Chaos Wastes equivalent: a stable, known source of chaos raiders that make first break upon the bulkhead of a culture made dour and humorless by the constant chaos threats. Yes, Cadia is just Space Kislev.

>Every space fantasy needs a spot where the "map ends", so to speak, where the writers can slot in whatever stuff that doesn't fit the standard paradigm of the known world
I wonder if this is "standardized" in that every sci-fi fantasy writer knows this to be true.
>>
>>98749284
>What went wrong over there?
Vong were just very, very stupid. Basically force-immune DEldar that swept through the galaxy and rapemurdered nearly everything. Bizarre, force-immune extragalactic creatures using twisted biotech weapons and armor could make for an interesting one-off encounter in the unknown regions, but having them invade the galaxy en masse and deep diving into their culture and society ruins the mystique and as a result makes them lame and uninteresting.
>I wonder if this is "standardized" in that every sci-fi fantasy writer knows this to be true.
It's mostly that old (good) sci-fi/fantasy adventures were heavily inspired by ancient myths, and mankind has always mythologized and romanticized what exists beyond the known world. Even Star Trek, even with its bugman rationalist communist worm coiling around its core, was about the romance of the "Final Frontier" and exploring and taming that which was wild and unknown. It's about as classic as ancient precursor civilizations, something even the Romans and Mesopotamians had myths about.

No kidding, I played my first ever custodes mirror a few days ago.
I charged a 5 man guard + blade champ squad with bike captain + 2 bikes, I killed 2 guys and got completely wiped on a swing back.
Later in the game he charged my 5 man guard + Trajan with his bike captain + 2 bikes, he wiped the entire squad and left Trajan on like 2 wounds.
I probably would've lost anyway since I'm a newfag and made a bunch of mistakes but damn, was it infuriating.

Raptors and a demon lord plowed through them...and then the wi̶n̶g̶e̶d̶ ̶h̶u̶s̶s̶a̶r̶s̶ outflanking Russes arrived. Fucking swept the attackers, then broke their Land Raiders.

Most factions have perfectly adequate support. Marines get too much and half of their releases are honestly pointless junk, being either minor refreshes of existing kits that were still fine, or another lieutenant variant no one needs. Or chapter-specific stuff that is sometimes cool, sometimes garbage.

The list of armies that go whole editions without anything new is pretty short. The 3 year update cycle is far too quick to begin with imo.

Every other army has enough support to make an army. As in, the actual thing you do.
With the exception of pretty much only Emperor's Children as the newest and least supported range and certain subfactions to which you'd have to choose to limit yourself to like Harlequins (which are meant to be taken as a small ally force to Craftworlders or Deldar armies), every army has more than enough variety of kits for you to build up a collection wide enough to let you run a decent variety of army lists.
Space marines are supported to the extent that they allow their players to become utter whales on purely space marine models. Unless you want to be a whale for exclusively space marines, then the amount of support any other faction gets is quite sufficient. You can simply build an army, enough for 2000 pts and a few extra things, and then if you want to paint more or run something new, then you just start another army.
>>
>>98749654
Aye that's fine. I wouldn't want a faction being outright immune to another or just not interact with it. It's more engaging the way you said
>>
I'm super tempted to buy a Khorne lord of Skulls. I know it's not competitive but the model looks so fucking awesome
>>
>>98749656
That is a warm thought until you want an ork tank army and see they don't actually have a main battle tank, only heavy troop carriers with guns, and their mad max race cars became [generic Ork buggy] or something.

I would like to make mechanized Necrons, but the closest I can go is Barge Lord with Bikers, because Lychguard refuse to ride the Ghost Arks of commoners.

The argument of not armies necessarily having to do everything and in the same way falls flat when marines specifically do that. Many factions are jacks of some trades, but marines are masters of all.

This is only a counter argument if you've decided for some godforsaken reason to consider marines as the standard rather than the exception.
Every army has a limited set of themes you can lean into. Marines are the one and only exception.

Custodes are incredibly un-fun as guard unless you purpose-build your list around them with tankspam and playing absurd range.
You'll need to thread the needle between the absurd armor save and the 4+ invuln saves, so you should be focusing on ap-3 weapons at most. Russ Demolishers and Executioners with hull lascannons are the best anti-Custodes units you have, plasma sponsons are a must.
It's always better to spam tanks instead of infantry with guard, our infantry are just fodder meant to eat damage, but even 25-man bricks can die in 1 turn to many armies now so having a tank for the same point cost is just better.

There is a reason my guard list is 12 vehicles and 22 infantry. I have yet to lose against any marines or Custodes players I have played it against.
>>98749926
Did the whole Steel Legion debacle not tell you that GW has nothing but disdain for their fanbase?
They put out half-assed excuses for everything that always drip with contempt for you the consumer, that's just how GW is.

They said you should just use MD to beat Custodes, despite the fact you won't get enough in a single game to matter unless you specifically take the Triumph (245 points JUST to guarantee MD are 6s btw) and purpose-build your army around dice generation, which then means you don't have the lethality to actually use those MD you generated.
Bravo, GW, you continue to intentionally misunderstand everything and keep walking into minefields that you set up.

There's some official art of some space marine escorting a terrain dignitary to negotiate with a Tau diplomat somewhere but I don't think either the Imperium or the Tau are really willing to bend on their incompatible dogma. Like that one Votann and AdMech picture, it doesn't really amount to much more than a passing conversation between enemies.
>>
>>98750091
Sometimes, but always unofficially. I don’t think Sisters bother with any alliances though, unless they’re fighting tau/Eldar and nids are right outside their door.
Guard usually have the best odds of diplomacy, but even that’s a crapshoot.
>>
>>98750013
It's a few issues
Tanks are a bit *too* important to the list because of a lack of outgoing damage and survivability otherwise; it's the same with Sisters and the Vahlgons brick.
Tanks do better at eating damage vs. infantry
Tanks do better at killing enemies vs. infantry
Tanks do better at point cost efficiency vs. infantry
There's little reason to play guard if I can't bring at least 3 tanks, they're a hard requirement.
>>98750024
You've still got to get those Dominions close enough to do damage, so you're also going to need melta Immolators and then leave the back half of each squad on a backfield objective to farm dice with their Simulacra. That's 250 points per Dominions squad, and then you have to beat the invuln saves because ap-4.
>Dialogus
I thought you had to also have a leader to have a support character? Or did GW change this and I've forgotten.
>>98750030
Vanquishers ARE good against vehicles. They ignore the armor save on most vehicles and units in general, but more and more invuln saves have started to become 4+ coinflips (or 3+) so spamming attacks instead of having "one big attack" is better in those cases.
In the case of needing multiple attack dice, Demolishers are your best option. They're more expensive and have less range, but pull double duty as being great anti-infantry (either horde or armored) as well.
>Are Hippogriffs good
Yes. A unit that has a lascannon with assault that can also move back into cover after firing is insane as a flank unit to force your enemy to position in certain ways. No reason to use Attillans when the Hippogriff exists.
Sentinels do still have a use vs. Hippogriffs though, Sentinels are good area denial and spotters for artillery.

Marines are for killing, and the kill so hard and so much, an Inquisitor recommended NOT calling marines for every assignment after they culled a revolt so violently the planet's infrastructure wouldn't be able to make this decade's tithe anyway.
Marines are His angels of death. If the Inquisitor wants protection he better call stormtroopers; marines protect by killing everything around them.

There are Marines that will absolutely listen to a Xenos, BUT only to glean any useful information that they can leverage in order to achieve their mission (which is usually killing said Xenos). It is a very rare thing that a marine will actually consider understanding or negotiating with a Xenos, and usually this happens because either they're dead otherwise or the Xenos has something they need.

In the recent book "Elemental Council", a lone Raptors marine converses quite a lot with the Tau occupiers of the planet, but he does so almost always with the intention of subversion, manipulation, gleaning useful information, or good ol' fashioned taunting. Except the once instance where a water caste spy dangles returning the geneseed and armour of some of slain battle brothers as a negotiation tactic. Being practical marines, the Raptor gave the Tau spy 90? seconds to negotiate, with one of his terms anyways being that all the Xenos die.

naw its their strength. most guardfags want exactly that. I know because I'm a guardfag and my least favourite regiment are the solar auxilia (yeah yeah I know 30k blah blah). they don't look like real soldiers, they even have cogs in their armour. The problem with this is price to produce each of those
>How much does it cost GW to set up an entirely new set of moulds?
>How much does it cost in terms of machine time to run a particular mould over another?
>How much actual demand is there for a specific regiment?
>Could it be solved with an upgrade sprue, or do they actually need an entirely new box?
These are the questions that matter when asking about guard and why GW is so averse to making other models.
Also wait like 3 years, we're getting Steel Legion minis for the first time since I was a child and I will be buying and running them unless GW overdoes the "redesign" and makes them not look like SL anymore. The concept art wasn't promising, and the new "A" emblem looks like shit; I don't care about the BUF or dogwhistling political beliefs, it's a cool symbol and letting it be censored "because of the implication" is admitting defeat.

How is that ruining the game? A lot of guns have gone to S5 (marine armies, so most players) and there will be 1-2 units fewer marines on the table due to points increases. It's better to do 2 of each to not waste a slot on a unit so you aren't wasting a weapon slot
If you want to be able to swap between flamers/meltas and plasmas/GLs, buy 3 boxes.
> plasma body is #4 in the kit, has a lasgun alt build
>flamer body is #7 in the kit, has a lasgun alt build
>GL body is #9 in the kit, has a lasgun alt build
>melta body is #10 in the kit, has a lasgun alt build
Build box 1 with its 2 weapons, box 2 with the opposite 2 weapons, and build both sets in box 3. This gets you a 20-man brick with alt models for either configuration, or any permutation therein. The only loss is the extra 50 bucks you spent and the 6 bodies left over, but you can use them for literally anything so it's not *really* a loss in the world of hobby modeling.
>>
>>98751062
Nogames are vastly overestimating how much toughness matters. They could have gone another 5 points higher on most infantry, but my list is already up 150 points which is closer to two units than one. Marines are still going to be mid outside terminator spam builds which went up the most in points.

It's not the toughness itself, it's how it is best countered and how that affects army building.
A toughness of 5 now means you've pushed the melta and autocannon wound breakpoint to a 66% chance to wound (3+) instead of an 83% chance (2+). This will then push every army that relied on s9 weapons to fight marines to instead use s10 weapons, many of which also have blast (Castigator and Russ battle cannons, etc) which makes them even more useful at killing grouped infantry, meaning the "buff" did very little beyond make other armies bring even stronger weapons, which then has compounding effects on all other units in that space marine army now having to account for it.
It's just pushing stats slightly higher across the board and leaving anything below the new breakpoint even farther down into the dirt.

I didn't say anyone was "building their list specifically to kill T5 marines." Don't put words in my mouth.
I said that people build their lists to fight their opponents. If my opponent is spamming Infernus marines, you can bet I'm going to be stacked to the gills with s10 or above weapons.
If an s9 weapon can kill your common infantry unit 66% of the time, but an s10 weapon can kill your common infantry unit 83% of the time (even do it more effectively otherwise due to other keywords like blast), AND both are the same cost, why would I bring the s9 weapon?
My "local meta" is a lot of Infernus/Hellblaster spam, so most infantry I see is going to be t5 soon. It would therefore make sense to have a portion of my army at least have s10 weapons. S12 would be even better, the point was to demonstrate how stats being increased causes a compounding increase of numbers across the board to compensate for the one increase, specifics don't matter that much.

Are you a bit slow, do you just not have a high reading comprehension ability, or are you playing dumb?
How would you have felt yesterday morning at about 10:30 AM if you hadn't eaten breakfast that morning?

ground does not come up in points with slab sides like that except in badly done CG
>>
>>98751371
Now that I take a closer look, yeah that's pretty whack, the ground looks like a stretched texture which just doesn't look good.

I guess they expect players to dismiss it or cover it up but man what a raw deal for the price you'd pay for that.

Sure.
Frost Wraiths

Sparknotes version that isn't greentext
Abaroq (later Abaroq, Frostbringer) was an Imperial Fists praetor bringing a large battleforce of a Ramilies-class starfort and it's support vessels to Cthonia, but got lost in the warp en route. Arriving in M32, Abaroq discovered not only a broken Imperium but one which enshrined words contradictory to the Imperial truth. Refusing to kneel to a dead empire compromised by the traitors, He consolidated the legios under his battleforce and conquered a subsector on the fringe of the galaxy in Segmentum Obscuris (Within the Halo Stars). Here the group, now named the Frost Wraiths after a predator on the first planed colonized, maintains mostly self- sustenance while slowly expanding their small empire in the Halo Stars. While the faction utilizes a warp gate to enable trade and launch crusades to eliminate traitorous astartes and expand territory, the empire is always at risk due to strange happenstances in the region.

As they view the traitors' betrayals based on a weakness of primarch/character rather than machinated by the chaos gods, there is a ends-justify-means practical tolerance on a small use of warp entities. This has has allowed the the gradual growth in the veneration of a primal entity within the empire. This being, called the Matron by it's followers, has seemingly favored the group with "boons", though these gifts are undoubtedly corrupting and nature and it's goal with the empire is unknown.

Actually with the strike squads it's 4 pairs of legs repeated two 10 man displays. Since strike squads were originally 5 man squads but then GW reboxed them later in 10 man squads where you got two of each sprues.

Do I trust it?

Collage anon will leave an anchor post around the end of the month like >>98748751
But if you post your mini and says it's for the months collage he will usually find it too.

That's like game Devs using DSP to represent the average gamer.

NTA but yes, BLM is based in Kherson in Ukraine based on my ordering history with them and the post tracking history.
Highly recommend sticking with them as they fund the war effort
>>
>>98752698
Wow you’re really cool man
>>
>>98752720
>That's like game Devs using DSP to represent the average gamer.
Funny that you say that...
>>
>>98752723
NTA but I bought firstborn sanguinary guard wings from them. They're decent quality
>>

Don't act like it's a rare phenomenon among marinepiggies, lil Timmy isn't doing accurate unit markings on his slopmarines

i don't care which 80 IQ slav recasts my plastic soldier men

Just list them as the Gue'vesa of Hatred's Edge, they have a number of different fronts, cells and what have you, very loosely organized except for taking orders from the Tau.

A country wanting to better itself and remove its self from being an alcohol & violent subhumans is LE BAD
Tabletop games!
>>
>>98752776
He must be enjoying the abuse at this point, no sane person would continue coming back to a place that hates and actively bullies him

Yes, the lowered half is practically the same as the old defiler model.

That doesn't look good. And also that isn't a mold of a plastic miniature even. Canoness Veridyan was a failcast character. I know because I own the real deal.
>>
>>98752786
he’s still holding onto the delusion that as long as he stays here anons will eventually “give up” and stop bullying him, so then he’ll be allowed to post freely.
>>
>>98752786
It anon, he's just saltanding up to the "bullies" and "unjust treatment" because as we know the guy who utterly fails to be anonymous totally belongs on the anonymous image board.

>What are your thoughts on overused homebrew cliches like traitor legion successor space marine chapters?
I think ADB is still seething that he didn't get to do it first for a "large audience." The Blood Ravens beat him to it as the Thousand Sons.
I'm not sure what chaos legion ADB would have made his traitor legion loyal chapters. I am not sure if he'd pick the Iron Warriors, but Iron Warriors are very popular among the traitor legion loyal chapter crowd.

I think ADB would have been perfect for such a story because his (alleged) constant thing is always having daddy issues in his books. He can't keep his daddy issues out like how Mike Brooks can't keep gay stuff out of his books.
The story would have definitely been about a chapter finding out they're traitors then inquisition stuff and then facing against their traitor "brothers."

Sometimes I wish a janny would give us an update on the situation with red text so we know what's going on for them on their end.
I've seen red text from jannies once here during the PAK trolling era. I believe the PAK trolling was done by firstborn fanboys to make us hate primaris models by being insufferable primaris "fanboys."
>>
>>98752887
I will say this. As the anon who owns the real Veridyan your pic made me realize that I assembled my Veridyans sword too high. I guess she will have to go to the freezer so I can remove her arm and reassemble her and hopefully not destroy it.......

Oh and the sword is shaped like a banana in typical Citadel Failcast quality.

Craftworlds for sure. The number of squatted models is limited to FW stuff and only one character I can think of (Bonesinger). I'm buying metal models from 2E that still look good and have rules for the loadouts they have.
