I’m debating selling my army to start up a StarCraft scene. It looks like a genuinely more fun game. I’m not sure if it has any narrative elements, then again tow isnt a very narrative game to begin with.

Sorry for posting this one again, still quite pleased with it. I've got the dude on horse from the box still, should I go with another god or should I keep going with the Nurgle theme? Any suggestions for what I could do with the pony to make it a bit more horrific?

Can someone help me take Malekith seriously?
He is an edgy-looking sorcerer king (which I love), and was legendary among his people, even the dwarves liked him.

But his mom is one of his minions, and said mother is the greatest slut in the entire setting, slowly selling their people to Slaanesh. Making him really look like a tool.
I know we are trying to go for an Arthurian theme, but it's just too much.

Ah, I missed some of your upgrades, you didn't have as many points leftover.
The ring is good, at times maybe too good for friendly games of BM and will probably result in an arms race where it'll become an auto include for most players around you.

This list is closer to what I'd probably run.
You could remove one Berserker regiment if you really want to go back to the 2x2 wolf units and sprinkle some toys on the rest of your guys. You could also swap both berserker units for a block of 15 marauders with shield and fortitude, it all depends on whether you prefer msu offensive potential or a defensive block with some combat res.
I don't suggest full command at this level because you often don't really benefit from it, just take what you really need.

Awoo squad [650 pts]
Warhammer: The Old World, Warriors of Chaos, Wolves of the Sea, Battle March

Exalted Sorcerer, Light armour, Mark of Chaos [Mark of Chaos Undivided], Wizard [Level 1 Wizard], General, Chaos Steed, Favour of the Gods, Daemonology - 111

First of all you have to throw away the memes, secondly you have to throw away the notions of family humans have, they just don't apply in the same way to elves that are 10000 years old.

Malekith is the king of the dark elves and nominally morathi is underneath him in the hierarchy, but in practical terms there's an interplay between asymmetrical equals: malekith is more powerful and is more important, but morathi knows more and is too useful to discard or limit in any way, and she does have an awful lot of informal influence amongst dark elves, having centralised a lot if not the entirety of the cult of khaine and its assassins and the sorceresses of the entire race, which is perhaps more than the amount of influence malekith has got overtly since his is a nominal title to command over quasi-independent noble families who are as likely to betray one another or distance themselves from one another at the first opportunity as they are to do so with malekith the moment he stops being the advantageous partnership, or someone capable of having them assassinated at the first sign of betrayal.

Morathi is also not a slut in the slaaneshi way and is not selling elvenkind to slaanesh, she is playing with fire, and she is winning each and every bet*, both for personal gain and because she genuinely believes hers is the one way for elves to come out on top, she's not selfless, but she's not selfish either, she does want elves to prosper and she does want them to defeat chaos, and in the meanwhile since that's not possible the route is to dominate it and use it (but unlike with all the other chaosfags claiming to do the same, dark elves have been doing this successfully for a long while). She is hedonistic and rules the cults of pleasures, but it's mostly a way to gather power by taking advantage of disposable fools and only giving up things of little value while she stays untouchable herself.

*(except the last one at the very end, but even then not quite either)

Don't get your hopes up, despite it sharing a similar name and origin to the really fluffy 6th edition list, this will be a bare minimum skeletons, chariots and horsemen list with no access to anything from the vamp counts range.
As for the AoSlop models, there's nothing keeping you from using them as TK skeletons, or even better, playing VC like the Lord intended.

It's funny you say that because people who can understand color theory and can paint wouldn't use the same color for lights and shadows.
This is made for retarded GW paypigs.
>>
>>98779482
>the same color for lights and shadows
At least some of the pentads do have a shift in hue, not just brightness and saturation. It's subtle though, like they wouldn't trust their customers to understand an obviously different shadow and highlight hue.
>>
Would any of the empire miniatures for their commanders be able to be built similar to this?
>>
>>98779219
I think the best immediate benefit of them is the base coat coverage. Maybe I just don’t have the right brand, but I’ve tested a lot of skin tones and ivories painting Ogres and Skeletons and I’ve yet to find one that’s needed more coats for the base color. If the paints that haven’t got out for demoing cover just as well then I think I must pay pig.

Citadel, Pro-Acryl, and some of Duncan’s and Vallejo. I Citadel’s colors the best, but I need way more than two coats and if I’m not careful the texture gets all weird. Pro Acryl is better coverage wise but I still get the stramge texture. I never really got out of the testing phase for the other two models, but I trust Miniscape that Vallejo Dark Sand is great, but I haven’t had a situation where I’ve reached for it for a model.

Sub-saharan Africa or a country ending in -istan? It's usually the poorfag countries where 3d resin printers are more common and cheaper than original gw shit, so you're either retarded or living in a dirt floored hut.
Not surprised you're a slopper, brownoids love that shit.
>>
>>98780252
Statistically, your local meta is an anomaly. Orcs and goblins are the second most popular army at tournaments. However, one reason for why you're seeing more beastmen players is because the army is disgustingly overpowered at the moment.

Thanks for the tips and advice anon.

I totally get where you're coming from with the zerkers and marauders on foot, I just cbf painting that many dudes before the day kicks off. Definitely going to look at investing in some more marauders in time but time is the one thing I don't have a lot of right now.

I've landed on:

Level 2 Exalted Sorc on foot, Daemology, RRoR and 1 Favour of the Gods

5 man marauder horsemen, flails, Cult of the Bloodied Hound, full command and Unnatural Fortitude

5 man marauder horsemen with cav spears, throwing axes, Cult of the Carrion Crow, full command

1 x 3 skin wolves inc. Jarl

9 x chaos warriors, sword n board, full command and a Brazen Collar on the champ. Sorc uses them as a bunker.

Wish me luck!
>>
>>98780838
I based the skin wolves on 40mm bases as that's what was noted in the Arcane Journal, but apparently that was a typo and they should be on 50's. Apart from aesthetics, is anyone going to give a shit?
>>
>>98780838

>>

>>98780838

Valid. I do love painting infantry and have a bunch of it already, so horse lists aren't too much of a bother.
Your list is very reasonably powered, so maybe the ring won't feel too oppressive.
Good luck!

Question for the thread: What units do you include in your armies even though they're kinda shit, just because you love them/they worked well one time ages ago?
>>
>>98780086
NTA but I live in Korea and if I buy from model makers in Europe or America once I've paid the shipping costs and import costs it costs me about as much as going to the Warhammer store in Seoul and buying a box there.

Which is a shame cause the new wargames atlantic waring states chinese set is actually a better representation of what I want for my army than cathay.
>>
>>98781204
Well, you just posted one. I've loved pump wagons since I was a kid, even though they're not very good. A bunch of goblins operating a rickety contraption just was too fun to pass up.
I used to have this model, it was a stolen Dwarf gyrocopter that the snotlings had stuck a spiky roller onto. First conversion I ever made. Wonder where it went.

Been designing my Persia inspired faction in Warhammer. Found some neat art of a Warhammer Persia fire priest.

The way I imagined their armies was they have a lot of soldiers who can just shoot fireballs out of their hands (like the Fire Nation from Avatar). This naturally makes their infantry really strong in comparison to most others.

I'm wondering what would be some good weaknesses to balance them out. Since they're based off historical Persia, they would also have excellent cavalry.

Also, I noticed that, in Persian history, Sultan Muhammad received ambassadors from Genghis Khan (one Muslim, two Mongol) who came to talk about a Mongol caravan that was executed in Persia. The Sultan executed the Muslim envoy and shaved the two Mongol ones of their beards and sent them back. I wonder if this is what inspired the War of the Beard in Warhammer?

Also what would be a similar thing for a WHF Persian faction? The Ogres?
>>
>>98782068
>Also what would be a similar thing for a WHF Persian faction?
The slaanesh cult and maybe even arguably what little there is of mortal tzeentch in there too could be translated as something of having a perisan background/influence.

>>
>>98782121
Interesting....I wanted a big historical loss of the Persian faction that pretty much ruined them from their heyday. Maybe pissing off two Chaos factions + not really doing much to stop Slaanesh and Tzeentchian cultists would be good

>>98782068
Where on the actual world map of the Warhammer world would this nation of men even be?
Badlands? Good luck with Orcs, Ogres and Beastmen
The Darklands? Say hi to more Orcs Ogres, and sometimes Chaos Dwarfs and their hobgoblin raiders.
Southlands? Do you think Araby or Nehekara will give room for another human nation?
Border Princes? A strong maybe, but then it would be relegated to a single fortress or two nestled in between a hundred other city and micro nation states. Who are also fighting the aforementioned inhabitants of the Badlands most of the time.

I don’t think you’ve thought this through and that this might just be an elaborate shitpost
>>
>>98782251
My idea modifies the map a bit. Basically the Sour Sea extends a bit and has a waterway leading to the Black Gulf. Some of the mountains around it are a bit flatter and more hospitable, although Iran is quite mountainous so not too much flatter.

The Persian Empire used to be big but got fucked over, and mostly stay relevant by controlling shipping through the strait. Like the Strait of Hormuz today.

>>98781465
It's still modifying the final cost that you, the customer, end up paying for the product. The company may be selling for pennies, but if shipping and taxes is a hundred bucks, then the product will cost you a hundred and change.
Hell, I've felt this pain back when I won a painting contest across the pond and ended up paying about 25 bucks in taxes for the prize I got for free.
It's the same thing that happens with tariffs, they don't increase the net cost of goods, but rather are an extra that gets offloaded to the consumer.

If they're strong when things go well they could suffer greatly when things go bad as a balancing factor, say for example they start losing control of their fire powers when losing discipline tests, so on top of routing or falling to fear they end up immolating themselves and nearby allies as the flames slip past their control during the mayhem.

Played a game vs cathay, was a loss (mostly due to us being evicted so the table could be used for some card game tournament, and me having just lost my general in a very close 1v1 vs miao ying).

Takeaways:
Chaos lords on demonic steeds seem legit.
The champions of ruin are NOT particularly busted, the low base damage really hurts them (especially if you do my meme build of -2 to hit with mark of nurgle).
You should bring a mage regardless for dispelling if nothing else.

500 point game today against my buddy’s new empire army (he has now begun painting it).

My Beastmen attacked a halfling farm and managed to run off with an engorged sow, but they stopped us from taking the beautiful and nubile goat. Still won the scenario since my dragon ogre turned his general into a meat skewer.

Daemonic mounts aren't just legit, they're the only way to make fighty chaos characters worth a shit without relying on a dragon (and at that point, you're not bringing a character, you're bringing a dragon with some schmuck riding it).
>>
>>98785481
Yup, pretty great kit. Its a little small for the scale but not immersion breakingly so. Also helps its insanely cheap compared to GW terrain.
>>
>>98785535
Nta but i used daemonic mounts before the upgrade, before it gave +1 armour save and had counter charge (attaching one to a knight unit neutralised their counter charge). It was still OP as fuck. Can have an Aspiring champion duke out vs lord level chars.
>>
>>98785619
Why stop at an aspiring champ on daemonic mount. You’re saving points on the dragon might as well kit the fuck out of a chaos lord. Put the aspiring champion on the dragon to make the best use out of the points cap.

That's my point, anon. They were already great and now they're even better. The problem, which is in fact the problem with the entirety of the chaos army pamphlet, is that daemonic mounts (or dragons, gigantic spawn, dogres, etc.) are so strong that they make the other options worthless.

I completely understand that, however I think that this "gender nonconforming" nonsense being paraded in relation to tiny, overpriced miniatures is a poison pill and GW will somehow manage to ruin things more if they are allowed to get away with it. I do not condone the people bringing cheesecake or flat out, disgustingly pornographic miniatures to a public location or my own home.
>>
>>98786540
I genuinely feel like half these guys don't even like the hobby, with how much they go out of their way to avoid it.
What the hell is the point of getting into a creative modelling hobby if you flat out refuse to complete your models? I just don't understand the mentality.
>>
>>98786594
>I do not condone the people bringing cheesecake
I do. Cheesecake is tasteful, thats what "tits are big and visible" means. Cheesecake is baked into the frazetta/pulp fantasy aesthetic and therefore has a place in warhammer.

But cheesecake has its place, and should not be the norm/default.
The "gender nonconforming" (whatever that means) model is fine, shes not very feminine, but shes clearly a very grizzled and (literally) scarred veteran, it would be weird if she looked like a bear fucked her up AND she had her tits out.

>>98786602
I am not a very good painter and dont want to fuck up the models I converted.
>>
>>98786614
Amusingly enough, my wife and I have a number of Frazetta prints in our house. I even grabbed a t-shirt for her with Frazetta art on it. I should probably say that cheesecake and the modern definition of "cheesecake" are not the same to me. As someone who has trawled the depths of the 'gram, there are a lot of things labeled as Cheesecake that are tasteless and pornographic. A player wants to bring beefcake barbarians and chainmail bikini fighter women to the table and it is tasteful? Hell yeah, I would love to see that, especially if well painted. I do agree that cheesecake has a place. It is apt to use a food analogy here, if you eat nothing but cheesecake - or dessert, the sweetness loses the appeal and becomes sickening and cloying.

As for the miniature, I just have very little faith in GW to not try to push this "gender nonconforming" nonsense into more and more products. I look at things like the new AoS Dwarfs and fear they might bring that mentality to the armies I love from my teens. You can make a scarred woman look feminine even without breasts hanging out, this just feels like some sort of strange probing before they try to push new, bad sculpts out.

>>
>>98786636
>there are a lot of things labeled as Cheesecake that are tasteless and pornographic
Oh, for sure. Lots of "technically sfw" models that are the equivalent of nipple pasties too. Although in some ways even THAT has its place. Morathi used to just have her whole tits out (I still have that model actually, I should repair it, use it as a chaos sorcerer on horse).

>You can make a scarred woman look feminine
Maybe, but it feels like a somewhat incompatible/clashing aesthetic.

Stereotypically, that sort of "hardened and scarred" look is just not very feminine (mind you: so is warfare in general). So a woman who is a scarred and harded warrior will, if shes not operating on heightened/superhero logic be rather masculine (well, really she probably wouldnt exist, but you know what I mean).

>>98786673
Its an event exclusive(?) Aos character sculpt for their chaos line.
Personally I think its inoffensive, pretty decent even, if this was a model in a unit of marauders or whatever I dont think you'd complain. But as an event exclusive its dreadfully boring/subpar.

The definition of cheesecake has sadly become very elastic, depending on who you talk to. Wife has that Morathi painted up for her Dark Elves, but I think it lost an arm after being knocked from a table, sadly. However the miniature is not particularly lewd or sexual, more like a piece of classical art in my opinion. Morathi being a beautiful and beguiling character in the fluff makes it make sense.

I think the style of the new miniature just is middling. It looks like Skwisgaar Skwigelf to me, not a Warqueen or whatever they want to call it. I can appreciate warrior women, even grizzled and scarred ones who are not traditional beautiful - the entire miniature just seems wrong to me from a visual perspective. Either way, I have enjoyed this discussion with you, Anon. Thank you.
>>
>>98786687
I have a feeling that they used Brock Lesnar’s daughter as a reference for the war queen, her head shots went viral cause they look like her dad but with long hair lmao. In general women who are rather athletic tend to have a reduced bust as a part of their build, I would say the model is “guilty” of inserting realism into fantasy instead of letting fantasy being fantastical. No one is complaining that Elves have slender builds and are fighting on the front lines against races with far more mass on their bones.

And so they'll forever remain unpainted.
Y'know, the only way you can become confident enough to paint the models that feel intimidating to you is by actually tackling them instead of just sulking about it. There's a big difference between saying you're a bad painter and understanding that you've still got a long way to go in your painting journey.
If you acknowledge the first fact but not the second, then you're bound to remain indefinitely in your own mediocrity.
At the end of the day, a badly painted model is infinitely more soulful than an unpainted one. And worst case scenario, you can always touch up old models once you've improved your skills.

There are a group called the Parsis in India, who were Iranian Zoroastrians that fled to India to escape persecution by Islam. It is quite interesting reading about their history.

I had an idea for how the Persian Empire would secularize:
>Two sects in the Fire Temple form. The fire Temple at this stage has the ability to raise standing armies and immense political pull over the Empire
>They are very similar but opposed to one another, and they often advocate policies just to be the opposite of the other
>One sect likes trading with the Empire, Cathay, etc. The other sect decides they want to focus on militarization just to oppose the first sect
>After some small hobgoblin raids, the sect wipes out groups of hobgoblins
>They also attack the Chaos Dwarfs, and piss off multiple different Khans of the Hobgoblins by attacking all their group's to "reclaim" treasure
>The Emperor is fucking pissed off, especially because the Hobgoblins and Chorfs are now gearing up to fuck them over
>Because the two sects refuse to help one another, the Empire gets picked apart piecemeal and a shitload of people die or are enslaved. The mountainous terrain eventually stretches the supply lines of the Chorfs thin and they have to leave
>The new Emperor rebuilds and sends scholars to teach the children. It is meant to be humanitarian, but they also teach them that "the temple governs the spiritual, but the Emperor governs the material"
>He also slowly strips powers from the temple, under the guise of "standardizing"
>Once he is old, he officially bars religious priests from political positions. There are small rebellions, but the new generations have been taught by his scholars and agree with him
>>

Nowadays, even entry grade printers can do nearly invisible print lines, it's truly amazing.
One thing I've noticed is that some 3d printing businesses sometimes increase the layer resolution to cut down printing times, at times they don't calibrate and test their resin. Am I missing something or is shooting generally terrible in TOW?
I've been playing with my friend since it released and we both have the opinion that shooting seems kind of underwhelming. Then today I found out we have actually been playing slightly wrong since we completely missed out on the cover rules for units that are somewhat hidden behind other units. So shooting is actually even worse because you'll have yet another to hit penalty.
>>
>>98788949
Nah, looks more like AoS' sea elfs.
>>
>>98788985
this isn't 40k, you're meant to have melee combat, shooting is not for winning battles but for getting those units that are out of your reach like scouts and fast flankers
>>
>>98788985
Depends on the unit. But I don’t think its terrible, just not useful in certain situations. Firing ten archers into a massive 5x5 block of infantry might not be doing too much, but that same volley into a more elite unit might knock off just enough to result in a panic test. Which I think is the main use for ranged attacks.

I generally find things like handguns to be more effective overall, where bows only tend to work in very large quantities.
>>
>>98788985
Depends on the units. Cannons fuck hard, skirmishers like gyrocopters or the lantern with special rules and/or high BS are also good.
Regular troops with BS 3 not so much unless you come up with specific combos like 80 archers with poison and teleportation.
>>
>>98789031
The only army we have that really cares much about ranged attack is his Dwarf army. But it's only his cannons and ballistas that are really scary.
Ranged infantry and cavalry seems very weak and when he wins with Dwarfs it's always because of their strong melee blocks and never because of gunline shooting (not really complaining because gunline can be frustrating to play against).

I'm just wondering how an army like Wood Elves can do anything in this game when all they are all about squishy ranged troops.
>>
>>98789052
Ah I see your problem, you’re shooting at dwarfs. As a dwarf player, its definitely an uphill battle for my friend if he tries to shoot me. Generally dwarfs are so tanky that it feels like you’re barely chipping away at them in a lot of situations. He’s found more luck with artillery, magic, and other grab bag things like fanatics (he plays goblins).

As to not make him miserable, I refuse to use too much ranged. Sounds like your friend doesn’t have that compunction.

I don’t have a lot of experience with wood elves, so I’m not familiar with their kit, but my friend tends to fuck me over with “debuff” spells and abilities. He uses things that lower my toughness or my movement and those tend to fuck me over. Not sure if wood elves have anything like that, I know they don’t really have artillery. Poison is also your friend against dwarfs as well.

Can't say I fully agree. Layer lines are very obvious, particularly at layer thicknesses higher than 35. The thing is, orientation, priming and painting help a lot towards disguising any print lines. Even then, if you take a macro picture, or look at a mini from the right angle where the light highlights the staircase effect, it'll be fully noticeable.
>>98788655
First of all, brittleness is a property that most resins have, the harder a resin is, the brittle it becomes and viceversa (there are always some exceptions, of course).
A large part of my collection consists of resin casted models, and yeah, they're all fragile to different degrees, some of them just as much as standard resin 3d prints. I've had either explode from desk- height falls.
ABS-like resins are a game changer. Even after curing they retain some flexibility, which makes them a lot more shock resistant and allows for smaller details without fear of breakage. I've got sword blades that even after curing bend like plasticard without breaking, it really is an innovation for the hobby.

Yes, Malekith the Accursed.
The name and character were created by Marvel, so that means Disney could have sued GW to kingdom come.

>>98789889
they would have had to sue entities, which would probably make it messy. There's also the fact that war hammer fantasy is now a distinct property compared to the old world. It would be an entirely different thing if GW were continuing using his older lame name.
>>
>>98789847
Very funny bc it literally means “evil man”

I don’t really have an opinion about the new name, I don’t really like dark elves.
>>
>>98789889
CA would have been clean because they're only using the name through a licence, GW would have to defend itself and would likely bring up that their character is completely different beyond the name and the fact he's the dark elf king and that there's never been any real consequence from the homonymy or attempt to deceitfully make money off marvel's IP and notoriety through all the decades it's been a thing.

The name change happened in aos likely for the same reason gw changed names to a bunch of races, not really because they need to own the concept of the fantasy race, even though they end up owning the new names, mainly as preemptive measure, but most likely to control how people search for warhammer stuff online, before aos and total war and botslop, since proprietary terms only give you back warhammer related stuff, while generic terms don't, and people could get sidetracked or lured to something else, which is a fringe case since anyone's not a retard would narrow the search by adding "warhammer", but many of these changes are meant to herd retards, not normal people.

Was Hashut considered a chaos god in the old pre AoS lore? Wasn't he kinda just his own thing, also an ontological evil god but not specifically of chaos.
>>
>>98791021
No, they were called chaos dwarfs for a reason, if anything in a few places it was suggested that hashut might have been a chaos entity very related to khorne, enough to have made the juggernauts for him and to have a few similar runes.
But it never went close to an actual confirmation, the idea that it was a fallen ancestor god or dwarf that achieved demonhood was already a somewhat popular fan theory.

Yes. Since 4th edition he was always considered a Chaos God.

The Chaos Dwarfs' particularly closer relation to Khorne was a thing in 3rd edition. From 4th edition onward, they became Dwarfs that worshipped their own Chaos God.

I always thought of Hashut as a lesser chaos god (Realm of Chaos mentions there are many) who, like Vashtorr would do for 40k, produced daemon-powered machinery for the other gods in their wars against each other and garnering the worship of industrious crafters like the dorfs, giving rise to the Dawi Zharr.

Not so much as "god-like" but actual god (with a small g); they'd be considered as among the "Lesser Powers of Chaos", like Kweethul. Minor chaos gods.

>>98791748

>>
>>98791763
>minor Chaos god
They use the term "demigod" for him but they really should acknowledge the minor Chaos gods again; at least in 40k. They acknowledged the Great Horned Rat as a minor god who was trying to earn a spot at the table with the Big Four. And has at this point with whatever lore Smegmar is doing now. They also floated Malekith-cum-Malerion as a chaos god of the Shadow Elves back at the beginning of AOS when Slaanesh was out of the picture. But have done literally nothing with him since.
>>

Oops, forgot I had a picture attached. Was going to make a point about Chaos Votanns possibly worshipping Vashtorr as Hashut. But that's silly headcanon.

>It's arguably if he is actually a minor Chaos god, or just a very powerful Greater Daemon (Undivided)

>>
>>98791840
A minor god amassed power on their own. A greater daemon or daemon prince, relies on the power granted by their patron deity.
>>
>>98791849

Question about Gnoblars, are they a pillar of the Ogre playstyle or are they just fun to have? I got a kit of them stocking up on old Ogre stuff before the refresh, wondering if I should actually build the unit or use them as decoration.
>>
>>98792792
You can play just fine without them. But they do make good speedbumps to screen your units so your opponent is forced to charge them, they run away, then your ogres get an easy charge into the enemy.

Unless you want to be utterly insane and run nothing but gnoblars.
>>
>>98792814
I see. I might just hang onto them as points filler and build the stuff I’m more excited about in the meantime (I’m not quite insane yet). Thanks for the info.
>>
>>98792859
Oh shit, I forgot that in TOW they're on 25s. And since they're still 2 PPM, you can have a huge block of 50 of the little fuckers just taking up a ton of real estate in the middle of the board. And because that huge block is only 100 points (105 if you give them a Groinbiter) it's not a huge loss if they run.
Hell, just a couple 30-gnoblar blocks for 60 points each taking up a lot of space. Or squatting on objectives if you choose to play with those.
>>
>>98792792
Depends on how shooty your enemy is. If they play a mainly melee army gnoblars are useful for eating a charge since some of your damage comes from ogre impact hits but its not game changing IMO, you're tough enough to eat a charge and keep going in most cases. But if they have a lot of high strength multi-wound shooting like cannons and bolt throwers you want to have some wide gnoblar screens running a few inches in front of the ogres since they can quickly kill a chunk of your army.

Skaven are one of the races whose lore has remained the most stable since their introduction back in 2e.
The main difference is that some of them are stated to be aligned to other gods and they would sometimes join forces with other races, such as in a Realm of Chaos warband.

I haven't read the rules but I have been reading older lore from fantasy codecies and love the setting
one or two showed some interest but asked if circle bases could be used, I have no idea if they can be
>>
>>98794495
Circle bases are a little difficult, though there are converter trays to put rounds on a rectangular platform. Overall, you need the units to be “rank and flank” since that kind of movement and pivoting is crucial to the game. Certain select units that are “skirmish” I guess could be left on rounds and it not matter much, but they’re not the default kind of unit and should be used sparingly.
>>
>>98794495
There is a work around, getting adaptor trays. Cheap, simple and doesn't force them to destroy their old bases.

Here's a small curiousity regarding Hashut. When the Chorfs were reinvented in 4th edition, within their own Armybook, the term "Chaos god" was used to denominate the Bull god just one time.

Can I paint my army any color I want or do I have to follow rules?
The Breyherd book says they're all brown with black fur but I was thinking of painting my army in the colors of one of the gods.
also what the fuck, why are all beastmen chaos undivided now when looking into older lore, they could be anything
>>
>>98795408
Anon, legit, the army book lore is more for inspiration than set in stone. The whole part of the hobby is painting and making. Paint as you want. Even seen some non green orcs online. Do what you want, the hobby is better for it.
>>
>>98795408
Beastmen are the true children of chaos, hence the undivided part. Also god specific beastmen are more of an AoS thing nowadays. But model and paint them however you wish. It may also be due to the powers of chaos having waned for some time now, and just now starting to pick up steam, hinting to the eventual great war of chaos that is to come.

As for colors for or my own herd I went with a pale skin and a warm brown fur to contrast it, pic related. So go wild, and make sure to post your dudes!

>>98795430
I was thinking of making a warband be touched by slaanesh.
I'm choosing between peach skin with white fur with pink highlights. Cloth would be pink with metal being gold
or
white skin with a pink wash over the fur, teal cloth and gold jewlry
>>
>>98795408
>Can I paint my army any color I want
Look, as long as it's painted, your army will be a lot better than 90% of the old world players'.
Beastmen in particular are suited for varied fur schemes, it's just that most players are too lazy to go beyond the brown base > dark wash > tan drybrush way. Hell, in the first three editions of the game Beastmen weren't limited to just goat people, all sorts of animals and mutations were present in the model range, which made for very colourful and chaotic looking armies.
>why are all beastmen chaos undivided
Because the old world rules team is full of hacks that hate flavour or interesting rules. The core rules for the old world may be ok, but most armies are at their most boring ever when it comes to customisation and unit choice.

Test your color ideas on pieces of sprue before applying it to a model proper. That way you don’t have to strip paint or paint over it.
Also your first minis will look ass if you’ve never painted before, there’s no way around it except practice and learning techniques.
I can also recommend that you get stuff for your miniatures bases as well to really finish it, it adds so much. Not needed on every single mini, but a little something here and there makes wonders. Like the fern I have placed on this dude for example

The old world is going for an unusually decaffeinated Chaos, as the game is in its early state with things developing towards Asavar Kul's invasion, the sacking of Praag, and the Empire's uniting under Magnus. We're not quite there yet, and they seem to be trying to say Chaos wasn't snowballing quite yet to full-on daemon incursions, etc until some time after Kul's invasion. Don't ask me why daemon princes or steam tanks are in the game, or why black orcs are core though. Some choices are just odd or even counter to their preview material. Cathay coming out before Kislev and being written into the Old World context was also a head-scratcher, but warhammer fantasy always struggled with pretense on why geographically separated armies would fight (i.e. Lizardmen). For those issues, I do quite like the attention the Border Princes region is getting. That Bret AJ Border Princes list is a treat.
