>>98788647
The winning move is to prevent your opponents from playing, it's the same as any competitive game. There's a reason fighting games rely on oki and not letting your opponent do anything, same as commander, same as standard et al
>>
>>98788632
Depends on what powerlevel your group plays. If it's just bracket 2 you don't need to play stax and you're gonna want to build black green Nemata fleshbag marauder tribal. Every bracket 2 deck folds to Attrition and other repeatable removal.
>>
>>98788711
>group
I don't have a group, I just roll up to the LGS
>>
>>98788632
You run asymmetrical effects, what the hell else do you need explained?

You're going to suffer anyways because pure stax is archenemy material before you even shuffle up. Either they'll have the interaction to smash you flat and they will do so as soon as they can, or they don't and they won't play with you a second time because they think either you pulled a fast one on them or that you're just an asshole.

As archetypes go, Stax is one that I think if you can't put it together yourself you don't deserve to even try it.

>"Haha, but guys I just want to slow the game to a crawl and make sure nobody can do anything that's a win con right?"

No, fuck off; if you can't describe the deck any other way you have no business touching these kinds of cards much less playing them. Figure out the way you win, figure out your colors, tell me a commander, if you can't do any of this you should stop being an asshole to your friends and play a fucking precon until you're old enough to eat solid food.

>>
Why is EDH treated as dome completely separate crazy thing from the rest of Magic? It's literally just the evolution of how I always played. My sister taught my siblings and me Magic when I was 6, and we usually played 4-6 player 60 card 4 of with 20 life. Edh is just that, but more balanced.
>>
>>98788741
sheldon created a lot of long-term damage
among them was his rule zero, which naturally every tom dick and harry would have their own idea of what would make a good edh game, so people were incentivized to live in their bubble basements while at the same time giving their hot takes online
>>
Pulled this guy along with a good chunk of the . Should I build a deck for him? Don't have a gruul deck, never considered artefacts in those colors. Should I just find a Bello precon to start off from?
I'm hoping for some fun ideas from veterans before I end up on edhrec.

Nothing's stopping them aside from the fact most people wouldn't play them because they would both suck doodoo butt cheeks (7 mana) and most people aren't looking for a stax piece as their bomb. It wouldn't be imbalanced but I suspect R&D views it as something that would have limited positive contribution to the game.

and what's the point you're making? All this does is illustrate my point that they don't particularly unbalance the game and R&D doesn't see it as unprintable design, just one that there isn't much demand for because most players aren't interested in playing stax.

Deathtouch. Not doubling, per say, but in essence it does. When a modular creature dies, both it & Yuna put triggers on the stack, which each individually put a number of counters onto another creature equal to the number of counters on the modular creature (which in some cases can even be better than a plain doubler, for example a card that rewards one or more counters being placed triggering twice instead of just once)

AR & modular spells in general work with Ozolith, the reminder text is just really misleading (“When this permanent is put into a

Yes, it's good to have it there for reference. I only ever refer to the card but what it's original name is and practically everyone I've seen does similarly. Even when someone is running a reskin with whatever name it's good to see what the original is easily.

He's pretty fun, I built him since he was the goat of my prerelease and got me 1st place

I like how he pays for his own commander tax so you can always bring him back whilst continuing to ramp.
However a big weakness I discovered with him is that his flying often is not enough evasion to break through other decks with fliers such as angels, you definitely wanna add other sources of evasion to your deck such as rogues passage, reaver cleaver, etc

>TQ: when was the last time you found something really good in your bulk collection?

Years and years ago, a friend gave me all of his uncommons and commons, and deep in the pile I found Lightning Greaves and Mother of Runes.

This was long before they became EDH staples or EDH even existed, and a turn one Mom or turn two Greaves was often the play that decided the game.

I feel a bit bad, because after more than twenty years of running Greaves, I’ve swapped it out for Swiftfoot on account of it working better in voltron scenarios, I can frequently ignore the equip cost, and the deck just doesn’t have room for both pairs of footwear (i've got enough equipment tutors that I'm better off with a more versatile set).
>>
>>98790248
I'd argue that depending on the gameplan, that's not bad. If you're spending more time on removal than accelerating your plan, you're really just giving other people time to catch up.

Not mine, but pre-covid my LGS used to have a bulk box. I loved flipping through that shit with my friend at the end of each night. At some point Squandered Resources spiked, and it occurred to us there were at least three in the box. So we bought them all for $2.

Making a deck from your collection, that is both a mechanical display of skill along with actual just creativity and matching that against other people's expression isn't a good enough reason to like it?
Not a fan of UB mind. Not that I really hate it as a concept, they are just doing too much of it, and I'd rather them just go back to blocks. Release the first 2 stages of a block, do a UB or a one off hat set, then finish the block and do another UB or one off and repeat.
If they made a barbie card, that worked really well in my deck, I'd buy a single of it and use it. but I wish I didn't have to, but it is what it is.

The problem with CEDH is two fold:
1) Decks start to look the same. When people can only play staples to even participate, the card pool becomes stale.
2) Rule -1. If a person spends more time shuffling than they spend even playing the game, then it isn't worth the time and investment to even start.

Dack has already won multiple cedh tournaments tho. White has no shortage of ways to protect it's combo and slowing down opponents enough in case you don't draw your fast mana

It's broken as hell and will take over your casual tables since retards will argue that it's actually a 4 card combo

So what, now that mono white his a viable commander it need to be banned because how dare mono white have a viable CEDH commander?
>>
>>98793309
My buddy said he wants to make a commander deck off this, and that's genuinely enough for me to realize it's probably broken.
Because he has a terrible habit of building shit that he claims is "haha silly theme" but still wins on turn 4.
>>
>>98793345
>retards will argue that it's actually a 4 card combo
hence all that really matters in brackets is *what turn* you can go infinite/altwincon, not whatever pieces your combo is composed of
>>
>>98793401
>Bracket 3 says I can start winning on turn 6
>dack is 6 mana
>play a plains for 6 turns

>>
>>98793411
>Bracket 3 says I can start winning on turn 6
that's with the expectation that it's not *likely* or that it's *inconsistent*, but of course there's no arguing that is unlikely/inconsistent enough; in fact gavin doubles down on t7 for b3 back in october and if you feel that sandbagging your combo is too much then that only proves it's not a good fit for the bracket
>>
>>98793427
Would it be any more satisfying if I just played stax pieces for 7 turns before bringing out dack?

No matter which way you go about it. I am firmly of the opinion that dack is incredibly unhealthy and overpowered commander

>>
>>98793309
crazy how these are the text-boxes non-blue decks need to win cedh tournaments
>>
>>98793444
combos are part of the game and having a combo from the command zone is unavoidable
if you play a b3 pod and you see a white dack from across the table it's expected that you have removal/can kill him before he pulls off his telegraphed combo off t7, (or t9 in b2)
that's just how these brackets are going to be played with a play to win mindset
>>
>>98793454
it's only 7 words more than thoracle
>>
>>98793465
blue still is leagues above other colors even if thassa's oracle was banned tomorrow. free stack interaction is too plentiful and good, flash speed is too plentiful and good. thoracle itself has several redundancies.
>>
Blue does literally everything well, it is the color of counterspells, it has great removal and boardwipes, huge attacking threats, the best non-combat win conditions, the best card draw... you can argue that is is lacking in ramp and mana but those are easily remedied by all the OP artifacts we have access to.

the draw for turn makes it possible for me to draw an uneven amount of creatures for the last flip
this means I can flip only preston as my last creature and no way to flicker anything
all those 20 examples assume dack WILL flip to preston AND a flickerer at some point. this is not quaranteed if he is the very last creature of your deck with no others to flip

Stealing is so fun. 90% of the effects are a casino and the few that are targeted are either game ending or turn you into the clown.
I understand why they don't like it much but really should make peace with losing cards. They hate mill effects too.
To be fair they have been playing for less than a year, and I'm trying very hard to teach them to change how they see their cards, value interaction, accept defeats and try to win but it's an uphill battle when one of them likes "for everyone's deck to do their thing".
>>
>>98794139
white dack fayden isn't going to break cedh, but he and other combo commanders like belzenlok and aang at the crossroads prove that turn limits on infinites and altwincons is the correct way of interpreting brackets

I once wanted removal for the greater good so I cast that card and asked if someone had removal on a creature. one said yeah and like the fool I was I just said sure hand it over and they gave me a card that had the removal on an adventure. it was a fun gag and I get why people frown upon theft if someone just yoinks cards with their filthy hands or something but I have never seen this happen irl. idk about mill but as a graveyard enjoyer I'm thrilled every time someone just mills me.

doesn't "dies to removal" argument actually kinda mean that the card is good tho. if one needs removal for it then it's simply good enough so it needs to be removed
so if I run only dies to removal (must remove) threats then what are you gonna do, cast your 5th removal on my 5th creature? yes? then what about the 2 other players that are also casting must remove threats. you simply cannot survive

you then lose to the 2nd fastest deck (ral) or the 10th blue farm you see or maybe even to the hot-or-cold deck (etali)
