>>98788616>A real shame he trooned outdamn sorry for your loss
How can I make a stax deck where only my opponents eat shit from it, and I don't suffer?Stax for thee but not for me type deck
>>98788632>Stax in edhDo you want everyone to target you?
>>98788632rule of law and don't cast spells
>>98788647The winning move is to prevent your opponents from playing, it's the same as any competitive game. There's a reason fighting games rely on oki and not letting your opponent do anything, same as commander, same as standard et al
>>98788632Depends on what powerlevel your group plays. If it's just bracket 2 you don't need to play stax and you're gonna want to build black green Nemata fleshbag marauder tribal. Every bracket 2 deck folds to Attrition and other repeatable removal.
>>98788711>groupI don't have a group, I just roll up to the LGS
>>98788632You run asymmetrical effects, what the hell else do you need explained? You're going to suffer anyways because pure stax is archenemy material before you even shuffle up. Either they'll have the interaction to smash you flat and they will do so as soon as they can, or they don't and they won't play with you a second time because they think either you pulled a fast one on them or that you're just an asshole. As archetypes go, Stax is one that I think if you can't put it together yourself you don't deserve to even try it.>"Haha, but guys I just want to slow the game to a crawl and make sure nobody can do anything that's a win con right?"No, fuck off; if you can't describe the deck any other way you have no business touching these kinds of cards much less playing them. Figure out the way you win, figure out your colors, tell me a commander, if you can't do any of this you should stop being an asshole to your friends and play a fucking precon until you're old enough to eat solid food.
vrenn vs nemata who wins in a fight?
>>98788722Then I regret to inform you you're playing edh wrong.
>>98788632>Stax for thee but not for mewotc is too afraid to make more elesh norns unfortunately
>>98788722Then I'm happy to inform you that you're playing edh correctly.
Why is EDH treated as dome completely separate crazy thing from the rest of Magic? It's literally just the evolution of how I always played. My sister taught my siblings and me Magic when I was 6, and we usually played 4-6 player 60 card 4 of with 20 life. Edh is just that, but more balanced.
>>98788741sheldon created a lot of long-term damageamong them was his rule zero, which naturally every tom dick and harry would have their own idea of what would make a good edh game, so people were incentivized to live in their bubble basements while at the same time giving their hot takes online
Pulled this guy along with a good chunk of the . Should I build a deck for him? Don't have a gruul deck, never considered artefacts in those colors. Should I just find a Bello precon to start off from?I'm hoping for some fun ideas from veterans before I end up on edhrec.
Who is Sheldon?

>>98788726Get staxed idiot
>>98788727I like nemata more because you get your tokens instantly. Makes it easier to obliterate the table with grave pact and such.
>>98788760>bare midriffonly UBchads can dare show such a thing
>>98788763Unfortunately I run interaction. I have very little to fear from a Stax deck put together by someone who needs help figuring out Stax.
>>98788767They deliberately sized it so only the minimum was showing right

>>98788789>>98788785I don't get how supposed fans only care about the mechanics and not the art downgradeSame as them saying they don't care about Universe Beyond, only the mechanics
>>98788800'i love the game for the mechanics' players and chuds are far more likely to be pro UB
>>98788809she cute :)
>>98788732Because:>Asymmetrical stax needs to cost more than symmetrical stax>A card that costs less mana will almost always be better than one that costs more>This is especially true for any stax piece you can build around unless it's for something completely retarded like "Your opponents can't cast spells"
>>98788809I don't get this though, is it a hardcore form of sunken cost? Surely part of the appeal was the interesting and unique world Magic built, beyond mechanics
>>98788815asymmetrical boardwipes are everywhere now, there's really no excuse for the lack of asymmetrical stax pieces other than the idea that 'people in their basements can't actually police their own play experiences like they claim they can'
>>98788822Notice how that card is 7 mana (the average symmetrical boardwipe is 4).
>>98788816>the interesting and unique world Magic builtdon't confuse vistas and memberberries with good characters and good stories, otherwise you're no different from star wars fags
>>98788827I mean it wasn't always great, and did have issues, but there's definitely a difference between some retarded story involving Chandra or whatever, and Spongebob vs Sephiroth
>>98788826>we can't print 7 mana asymmetrical stax pieces because they'll break the game somehow
>>98788828>there's definitely a difference between some retarded story involving Chandra or whatever, and Spongebob vs Sephirothhow so, other than chandra vs whoever is from renton wa? are we supposed to give stories a pass because they came from the greater seattle area?
>>98788829Nothing's stopping them aside from the fact most people wouldn't play them because they would both suck doodoo butt cheeks (7 mana) and most people aren't looking for a stax piece as their bomb. It wouldn't be imbalanced but I suspect R&D views it as something that would have limited positive contribution to the game.
>>98788838did you know that praetors are stax bombs and they even got some people irrationally pissing their pants?
>>98788846but you can get this nigga on the field turn 2-4 with natural order or reanimate effects
>>98788856and you can get this guy on the battlefield T1, your point?
>>98788846and what's the point you're making? All this does is illustrate my point that they don't particularly unbalance the game and R&D doesn't see it as unprintable design, just one that there isn't much demand for because most players aren't interested in playing stax.
>>98788834>how is an in-universe story different to a completely different IP barging inAnon you must be a mono-red goblin player
>>98788858>most players aren't interested in playing stax.>because people in their basements can't actually police their own play experiences like they claim they canyes i know
>>98788860No I meant people building their decks aren't aiming to play stax pieces themselves, although that's also correct that most players do not want lock pieces to be the top-end finishers when they go to their LGS.
>>98788859>we don't like other IPs barging in>except when it's hotwheels or cluedo or pacific rim or wakanda or whatever, then we're ok with it
>>98788865>posts set after UB, hasbro buyout, banning cards, etc etc
>>98788863>I meant people building their decks aren't aiming to play stax pieces themselves
>>98788846So why is this OK but Winter Orb is hated?>because it's a le heckin 8 mana creature8 mana in green is 2 mana in real colours>because you can heckin doomblade etc itProtection
>>98788873There's a reason it was moved to the GC list anon. Hell, you can look at Farewell as an example of a card that was moved there because Timmy found it unfun, not because it was actually in the same league as good cards.
>>98788875vorinclex is ok because he doesn't cut your own wrists like a retard and prolong your opponent's agony

These white bordered mb2 cards are absolutely hideous but they certainly look unique. I wonder if they will make more of them
>>98789516There was a time where this card was called Superman because of how good it was. For decades they avoided power creep. But here we are with a fucking 8/7 with countless upsides for 6 mana. Questing Beast was the first time I read something and had to do a double take on how fucked it was.
Is there any way to play pic related without everyone hating you?
>>98788947He is, Bontu has a pretty awesome combo that involves looping himself infinitely using his first & second abilities
>>98789568Oh hello LARPer! Sorry that the sorceries stopped being 0-mana cards that drew 7 and the creatures started having real text on them so you actually want to run more than one in your whole deck.
>>98789389No, it's black
>>98789533I personally like them. They're like a modern version of revised cards.
I fucking hate white border cards. The only positive is they're cheaper.
>>98788753The Bazinga guy.
>>98788809My wife...
>>98788741>Why is EDH treated as dome completely separate crazy thing from the rest of Magic? Because 100 card singleton evergreen 4 player with an entirely new zone is near the extreme of how complicated you can make the game. Any hiccups or nuances that show up in other formats are exponentiated.
>>98789662does this synergise with Modular doubling the counter when they move on death?
>>98789416Deathtouch. Has tons of great support that's under $1-3, you can fill it with penny card creatures that will become massive bombs quickly, the manabase is dirt cheap especially because your average cmc will be 2.xx, and the only (comparatively) expensive cards you'll need are some recursion most of which are well under $10.
>>98789687No, you can pick her move ability, or you can pick it's move ability. They don't stack like that.
>>98789687Yes because Yuna doesn't move the counters herself, she just makes new ones. That's why she works with the Ozolith but Arcbound Ravager wouldn't, because the Ozolith and AR explicitly just move those counters, they don't create new ones.
>>98789389Isn't that Syr Gwyn? Are the Syr things like titles that replace your name or something?
Do you really need the little nickname bar if you always just say that the card's name actually is whenever you play it?
>>98789631isn't rowan rakdos?
>>98789730>That's why she works with the Ozolith but Arcbound Ravager wouldn'tBut Modular does work with the Ozolith though.

>>98789774Only after disagreeing with Will and going their seperate ways. Will also gained white from this
>>98789424Goyslop and generic leapfrog?! YUMMERS!!!
>mtg
>>98789687Not doubling, per say, but in essence it does. When a modular creature dies, both it & Yuna put triggers on the stack, which each individually put a number of counters onto another creature equal to the number of counters on the modular creature (which in some cases can even be better than a plain doubler, for example a card that rewards one or more counters being placed triggering twice instead of just once)>>98789730AR & modular spells in general work with Ozolith, the reminder text is just really misleading (“When this permanent is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may put a +1/+1 counter on target artifact creature for each +1/+1 counter on this permanent.", 702.43a)

>>98791080Insane. Do you live in a third world country or something?
>>98788598>TQ: when was the last time you found something really good in your bulk collection?Years and years ago, a friend gave me all of his uncommons and commons, and deep in the pile I found Lightning Greaves and Mother of Runes. This was long before they became EDH staples or EDH even existed, and a turn one Mom or turn two Greaves was often the play that decided the game.I feel a bit bad, because after more than twenty years of running Greaves, I’ve swapped it out for Swiftfoot on account of it working better in voltron scenarios, I can frequently ignore the equip cost, and the deck just doesn’t have room for both pairs of footwear (i've got enough equipment tutors that I'm better off with a more versatile set).
>>98790248I'd argue that depending on the gameplan, that's not bad. If you're spending more time on removal than accelerating your plan, you're really just giving other people time to catch up.
>>98791131Give me my cards back Chris. Also, did you move out of your mom's basement and get a job ever?
