Question: Are 1/72 diorama figurines just as welcome as the regular 1/32 figures?

No argument from me, got a bunch of 1/72 army men myself. Many vehicles packaged with army men are around that scale too, stimulates imagination as I would put it heh.

If they are plastic and come in a bag, box, or bucket bring them on!
But honestly even the plastic bit isn't really necessary for me. I mean I wouldn't be mad if some anon was posting about tin soldiers.

This being a toy soldier thread and not necessarily strictly concerned with details, you can be forgiven for thinking those WW2 tommies are basically the same as WWI tommies. But the more striking differences are:
- gaiters instead of puttees
- trouser pocket on the left leg
- different web gear (larger pouches)
- different helmets (subtle shape difference, they have the Mark II helmet)
Additionally, and this is a bit weird given that Airfix is a british company and those are supposed to be british infantry, but the provision among them of a significant number of M1/M1A1 Thompsons instead of Sten guns in a field unit suggests they are, in fact, actually Canadians.
>>
>>10949161
My bad, I misread the listing. Still, Airfix has made WWI stuff. I remember seeing a picture of WWI German infantry wearing the piclkehaube.
>>
>>10949161
Early to mid-war they'd be more likely to have Thompsons; Airfix's 8th Army Infantry (pic related) for example.
>>
>>10949199
At 1/72 scale they have these Brits:
https://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=542
Couldn't say if they've done them at 1:35 as well.
>>
>>10949204
They're not early war continental troops because they don't have the provision for the gas mask pouch that was phased out later. So that makes them 1943+. 8th Army had a peculiar logistical situation, being largely "catch as catch can", so they might be rather more likely to use non-standard equipment (sometimes nicked from the Italians).

Continental British units preferred the sten for logistical reasons. Most Thomspons were given to the Home Guard. For forward units, stens could be reliably supplied from domsetic production - but M1s would represent a supply burden. This was not true for the Canadians, however, since their proximity to the US eased this logistical complication and, in addition, every Canadian unit with M1s was one that wasn't eating into sten supply. Canadians domestically produced the British-pattern uniform (usually more OD in colour than brown) and the Mk. II helmet. All of this put together, the set is much more representative of a Canadian outfit than British.

I found a decent picture of the WW2 British Infantry set that showed the Thompson. You can see in the 8th Army pic you posted that the Thomspon there has a front grip and cooling fins for the barrels. This is the earlier M1928. But the British Infantry set has the later model M1A1 with no forward grip or cooling fins.

As an aside, it's pretty remarkable that Airfix went through the trouble of all these details even if their choice of SMG is a bit of an oddity.

It might be as simple as the sculptor using a black and white photo that showed canadian troops but was misattributed as british troops. That could be an easy mistake to make, even for the original photographer.

I want to get these guys but they went out of stock pretty much everywhere last summer before I did. Now they are 42 leafbucks.
And that just seems - a bit much.

Maybe. The tank's play feature is a mechanism where you roll the wheels on a surface with friction which "charges" them up so when you put the tank down on a smooth surface right after it'll drive a ways on its own, all while making a fun revving kind of noise.

I bet they had a "sparking" device.
I had an old (really old) tin toy that you would wind up.
It would roll along the floor and it's steel barrel would rid up and down over a flint cog and sparks would go everywhere.
it also had roll bars and hitting something would cause it to roll over.
Definitely a fire hazard.
Today summer dry backyards under water bans would IGNITE

Loved that fuckin toy.
Ditto glass "clackers" I would use as a wrecking ball, a bolo thrown at targets (well, people) and a magnifying lens to start fires.

Previously, Tan forces, emboldened by rapid reinforcement after last year's debacles had been launching raids into Green territory and manoeuvring openly through no-man's-land in anticipation of a massive spring offensive. Having won several localized victories over Green outposts and air defense sites the Tans have grown confident in using their usually limited air assets in the region.

However, this confidence may have been premature. Green air defense has consistently been one of their great strengths and a major factor in maintaining overall air superiority on the battlefield. The loss of a few SAM units to infiltration raids ultimately had little effect upon the greater air defense network, as the Tans are starting to learn the hard way while they continue to probe Green lines with heliborne squads.

Typical is this seemingly minor incident of a Tan helicopter caught unawares by a SAM ambush site. With standing orders to secure and investigate all downed enemy aircraft for possible intel the Greens send out a squad to search the wrecked chopper. In this case they would find more than they bargained for - an officer's satchel containing a partial order of battle for the sector, along with logistics timetables for the expected but still nebulous spring offensive. Tan high command would come to regret this serious lapse in judgment...

Thanks to intel coups such as these and risky reconnaissance flights over key sectors a picture of the coming offensive emerged. Accordingly, Green battalions have been quietly moved under cover of darkness into jumping-off points for a preemptive offensive of their own. Green HQ has decided to gamble big on this move - if the plan succeeds they will likely be able to roll up the entire Tan front line and push them back in disarray. If the assault misfires however, there will be little to hold back a Tan tide from shattering all Green positions in the region...

The Tan can be a fearsome opponent, but also an arrogant, overconfident one. They are slow to learn from their frequent blunders and once again this has come back to bite them in the ass. The surprise preemptive offensive has been wildly successful.

Carefully timed and coordinated airstrikes and preregistered artillery barrages on supply dumps, jumping-off points and tank laagers was but a taste of things to come for the shocked Tans. Before they had a chance to recover from the onslaught, Green mechanized formations tore into key weak points in the Tan lines. Spearheading these formations were a few of the very rare supertanks, brought in on short notice through a miracle of logistics and operational security to give the offensive the greatest chances of success. The Tans had no idea these monsters were in the area, right up until the lead unit had punched through the shattered forward positions on Zucchini Ridge and turned to roll up the entire line.

Reports across the front are echoing the same results: burning enemy armor, ruined bunkers choked with the dead and dying and the backs of fleeing Tans as far as the eye can see.

Peace was never an option Satan, the Tans are like Paraguay in the War of the Triple Alliance, fighting and dying long after the already slim hopes of success were stamped out by overwhelming odds against them. Somehow they're always able to pull themselves together and stave off complete annihilation - rumors abound that the Tan homeland is an incarnation of the Death World Krieg, entirely devoted to producing legions of soldiers for endless conflict with everyone. Fortunately for the Greens and any other past, present and future foes of the Tans their army isn't nearly so awe-inspiring as the legendary Death Korps of Krieg. The Greys, on the other hand...

This image was captured much earlier in the present conflict, along the very same Zucchini Ridge so recently reclaimed by the Green offensive. In this incident a recon aircraft had been downed by the Tans and crashed in no-man's-land mere meters from a Tan outpost. A sharp fight ensued when a Green unit attempted to secure the site and retrieve any intel recorded by the aircraft prior to its downing; ultimately the Greens were forced to withdraw empty-handed, though not before destroying the plane's wreckage to prevent its capture.

Some days it seems as if the Tans can absorb a dozen Cannae-esque disasters and still have men left over for more. This minor probing action a couple years ago was ultimately repulsed but forced the Greens to deploy considerable reserves to the area - less than a week prior a major Tan offensive all along the line had met with similar results and appalling casualties, yet they continue to throw away men and materiel like there's no tomorrow.
