Man, Dollar Tree seems to only get the fig packs, been collecting them. On another front, hadn't been to the liquidation centre in ages and they were well-stocked with new stuff. Lots of Jie Star and Qman, picked out a few sets that appealed to me. I've built the Enlighten pirate ship >>10946892 will maybe do pics later today.

I don’t think so unless you’re super country. I like you’re armies though keep it up. I got what they had with 6 packs of grey 2 packs of green and a baseplate less than $12 for a nice little castle.

The Enlighten "Adventure" in all its glory. I went into this set with fairly low expectations, anticipating a wealth of clutch problems as I experienced with previous Enlighten Pirates sets. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were very few such issues.

The set came with a rather unusual brick separator, stamped with the Qman logo which makes me think this was produced more recently than their other Pirate sets, explaining the improved quality. Not to say that things are perfect, though they made a good show of it.

The crew of six (plus two animals) hearkens back to the Golden Age of Lego Piracy with iconic faces and torsos (including this unusual one that was originally from a couple old Castle sets) and a proper male to female ratio - one wench and five scalawags. One minor glitch is they provided exactly the amount of hands needed for the figs and monkey, a problem as two of the hands were flawed. I will in short order provide for the monkey's missing feet from my stockpile but it was a noteworthy issue. On a related note the cutlasses were made with slightly thinner handles, making them fit loosely in clips and hands.

After the last Chinese pirate ship disappointed me on a number of points (thanks Wange) I was pleasantly surprised to find the included cannons are proper firing versions, making up for the lack of wheels (which will be amended from the stockpile). The strings were a bit tricky to work with - not the best quality and liable to start unravelling at the ends (a lighter was most helpful in fixing this issue). I may have mixed up the string meant for the crane with the one for the anchor, ended up tying two of the shorter pieces together to make an overly long crane.

All things considered this is a great pirate ship set, was 50 maplebucks which is more than reasonable for what you get I'd say. I regret not getting their "Black Pearl" when it was still around (still shows up all over AliExpress in listings but is never actually available) but they're very nearly the same ship anyway. There is one other Enlighten pirate ship on the market that I'm tempted to get.

Frickin' awesome. Keep telling myself this years-long warbands project will be strictly limited to field armies but the temptation to expand into siege warfare and castles is there... Find yourself a vinyl cutter and the autism will flow like the spice in Dune. Taken a shine to the one-off tournament knight with the Raven, mostly cuz the Chinese have also. A few /lg/s ago I mentioned making a variant of the emblem with a meeting hat cuz of that one medieval meme... think it turned out alright, as did the shields and torsos on these brave men-at-arms.

Haha that's radical. I've talked with you countless times, but thought you were three separate people. Nature of the site though I guess. Never know who's behind any post made. Sometimes I'll read a thread and wonder if it's all just one crazy dude talking to himself.

I love your builds. And thank you for the compliments on my Sharktooth Tower and pirate characters. I really appreciate it. I know all the story lore stuff is silly, but it's cool knowing there's some folk out there that dig it.

And I really dig your builds too. I recognize some of it previously posted and yeah I always think it's rad. You gotta give us a bigger look at your set up some time. At work we have Cricut vinyl cutters that will be available for public use soon so we're given time to practice with them. I found a good clean image of the raven emblem online, adjusted it in Cricut Design Space (the software for the cutter), cut them and applied them to plain torsos and shields. Takes a little trial and error to figure out what will turn out at that small size but it's amazing the level of detail you can pull off with these things.

I hit the dollar tree up again and got some brown flats I passed up later. I hope my store restocks soon with those awesome ass zombies and construction sets. You were right on and that pistol alone plus those clips and connections are worth it. They don’t always snap together right and are tight as fuck but for a dollar?! I’d love to see actual Lego compete. I really would. Give me a 48 price parts pack for $5 that’s just bricks no snot and shit and I’d buy one every single day. I saw your post in the other thread I’m also doing some yard work but I’ll get at you later. I am sure it’s like me you that guy who creeps around flea markets maybe two other castle guys who knows!

Loved it and the tunes! One complete skeleton wouldn’t have fucking killed them but I agree the torso legs and arms look pretty correct. I hope they keep cranking out more sets. Whatever chinamen they got in a cage cranking out these sets needs a raise or like another bowl of rice or something because I am super impressed… like trying to justify a 45 drive to another town to raid the other dollar trees. We’re gonna get off topic im sure but did you make the table? That wood grain is killer and I like the dark stain (even if you lose a clip in the shadows lmao)! I’m looking forward to your imperial moc but I imagine it’ll take time my medieval/pirate mash up village is gonna be another couple years to process and gather parts. If those dollar tree baseplates don’t strain the bricks and crack them I’m gonna be so happy.
>>
>>10953013
Sorry forgot to say. This is sorta what I’ll be going for 5 x 5 baseplates and I’ll cut them down to 46 inches with an inch raised border to keep things on the table and will keep it 4ftx4ft square. If I had more room it’d be great. That’s the one reason to put something on a shelf but we get just as much enjoyment pulling the pieces back out of the bin and rebuilding or remaking something.

>We’re gonna get off topic im sure but did you make the table?

Naww man, can't say I did. I wish. It's a reading table I bought on Amazon for like $70. A part of the table raises up to tilt and hold bigger books for easier reading while I sit in my comfy leather recliner. I'm a huge comicbook nerd and have been since I was like 6. I spend most of my free time reading comics and have been colkecting my whole life, so I was overjoyed when I found it. I went to go back and get the link to it for you, but sadly it seems to no longer be on sale. It's been a life saver for me with those heavy ass omnibus comic companies have been making the last 15 or so years, the table holds it up for ne at a nice tilt. It used to be the biggest volume would be like 900 pages, but now they can get up to 1500 pages and it's just too damn much to comfortably read while holding in one hand.

Judging from a few comments you've made, it sounds like you actually watched my builds. That's hecka cool. I'm just making content for fun and so I have a reason to talk about all the dumb stuff I like, but it's cool knowing someone out there actually watched a thing. Glad you dig the tunes, I'll have more going next time I do one of these. And yeah man those clip pieces are awesome and lots of real good parts in all these. Every build has stuff in it that doesn't clip/fit right and not every set is full of pieces I want, but each one has at least a few very valuable pieces along with a number of very useful ones. With a price of a buck twenty five, it's just great. Especially those 72 piece brick packs, what a deal! Glad you went back and grabbed those brown, I hope they don't crack on you.

I'm trepiditious about the baseplate, so I'm looking forward to hearing how they hold up. I'd guess the best way to test is build on one using both the knockoff and real bricks and leave em for a while and come back. But doing that is no fun, because you kinda want to start building for read now.

I'm looking forward to seeing what your whole set up looks like combined, but I'd love to see more of your block collection and what all you have so far.

For me, I really kicked off in brick building hardcore after getting the Eldorado Fortress remake. I had been toying around with building stuff a little here and there for a few years now after my nephew got me back into Lego. But when I built Eldorado Fortress last year it rekindled my love for PLAYING with the Lego sets even after or beyond building them. Lego Pirate were my favorite toys as a kid, even though the sets I had were few and far between, they Ignited my imagination.

My most recent thing I did was using up all my spare white pieces and I filled out and "fixed" the back Admiral office and tower. I dont want to break apart the Fortress because I really like it, but I also want to build additions to it too and expand the Imperials and their forts. I'm toying with just buying a second one and using the parts because I would want all the same colors, but I can't help feeling it would be cheaper to just buy bulk white and yellow. Either way, I'm strapped for cash right now. But I plan to buy the Creator 3in1 Castle as my next purchase because all 3 builds look fun, but there are also tons of free Rebrickable instructions AND it looks great to free build with from imagination, a real good set of parts for the cash. I'm also tempted to buy a second Creator Pirate Ship. I built all 3 builds from that set and like 2 MOCs before I turned it back to a modified Pirate Ship. But that set is great for parts too even if you don't want to keep it as any of the three main models. The Creator Space Rollercoaster looks fun too, but I struggle to think of MOC uses for the coaster tracks

(Here's another look at the table in reading mode)
>>
>>10953203
Okay so there’s a lot to unpack and I have comments lol been a shit day but I’ll get some time later I hope. I know what you mean man my whole moc setup is going to be based around the 3-1 castle and 3-1 pirate ship. My brother had more money than sense and bought both for me as gifts and then I splurged on a second castle and then found one for 60 on fb and couldn’t pass it up. I’ll reply more later gotta get back at it.

>>

Nah all my comics from a kid were lost except two. This is from years of digging through boxes finding what was lost or never had. Trades are lame and I don’t really like comics these days anyway but I did pick up the last ronin series in trade and it’s pretty fucking cool. Right now the kids are into legos and someday we’ll get to pull the comics out of the storage and I’ll get back into it. I stay abreast of the new stuff it’s just not my bag 9 times out of 10. Although I did watch a nufren have high praise for Conan and I love me some shit like that.

I hope I didn’t offend with the comics joke. I like your collection guy and have thoroughly enjoyed all your content. Please do more videos with Lego comic and kaiju content man I enjoy it and think you got some nice wholesome content. Here’s how the dollar tree castle is holding up after handing it over to a four year old. I can guess the regular legos would not be together still. Definitely some gap issues and the colors are inconsistent but again for $13 after tax? I’ll take it. I’m going to go scrounge and see what I can find today but I don’t hold much hope for bootlego… I’ve exhausted my local area and have to make a trip out of it but need another excuse lol. I enjoy Nathaniel napsalot and all your content bro I legit want to be frens and hope you keep making mocs and videos. That table is sweet but I hate the machine so I may try to make something like that for the moc setup. I wasn’t going to dick with the finish but I may now. There’s just something that pulls at my head with the pirates and castle shit that nulego or city and space don’t do it for me. I can’t backstory some guy on the street and space is so disjointed it’s hard for me to get into… oh hey another spaceship… cool… same with technic or cars just not my bag but I still appreciate them all for what they are just not where I can get lost in play or story making. Too much fantasy and that’s what I had as a kid I imagine. My brother (again cool ass fucking dude but Jesus don’t spend money on that shit) got me the xjet and while it’s not something I would ever buy for myself I fucking love it. So. Fucking. Swooshable. I haven’t seen the new show yet except a couple of clips but I’ll give it a chance now despite rouges flat ass.

That's a sick ass Castle for $13 bucks worth of bricks. I love Lego and lots of their set designs, but damn just a bucket of bricks is insanely priced. the "builds" these Dollar Tree sets give are questionable, but the types of parts they provide and the quantity is far ahead of what a lego set delivers for price. And dang that Castle did hold up to 4 year old play, good going.

I genuinely appreciate the kind words about both my builds and videos. Didn't think there would be much crossover in Brick building and Kaiju collecting/Fandom and comic reading, but all the cooler if my videos find someone who digs it all. I just want to make videos about cool stuff I like and share it with whomever can groove what I'm digging. Glad to have found a fren here.

Now, checkout what all I just scored at a different Dollar Tree. I have three of them in my area, but had never been to this one before because it's right next to the grocery store, so I never think to stop there first and don't want to leave dairy in the car. Well, today I stopped in first. I've decided to do away with my current boardwalk MOC and try using just these brown Make-It Blocks and see how we do. I'll be reporting back later with results

I also picked up these cars. I don't much care about Cara, but they look like good builds for a buck twenty five and it looks like I'll have lots of great parts when I break it apart for my collection after the initial build. No time today, but I'll probably build those cars tomorrow and put up the build on the YouTube.

Like you said and I said put them together and see what doesn’t fit. I’d say 10-15 percent are junk but the rest work just fine and for the price you can’t go wrong. I enjoy all those things and I think I see enough Batman alone on that shelf behind your table to justify many videos. I don’t get the chance to collect comics and do like you just buy loose ones out of long boxes but I did get in on Batman Damned before they censored it! I’m not gay but I don’t want to talk to someone that can’t appreciate Bruce Wayne hanging dong. I say keep making videos alternating fake and real Lego (I liked the comic moc and ninjago set reviews!) comics and kaiju… basically don’t change anon! If you’ve got a five below nearby check them out the quality is as good or better than Lego and way better than dollar tree but you’re gonna pay three times as much for what still basically boils down to a parts pack… but they’re way better parts packs.

$4 worth of bricks (and a baseplate) right here makes a good segment of a Boardwalk. And with parts left over. I have another two packs of bricks and a second plate, so I'm gonna make a second and put it together. Might change a few things. But at this rate, making a full Boardwalk is looking to actually be feasible now. Before I felt so limited by my parts that I stagnated on it

I'll have to check out Five Below. There's one on my way out of town, but I've only stopped there once like a year ago on my way home from a job

Looking good I passed on the brown but you’ve inspired me and now I wanna go get them and make just a basic boat hull or something out of them. They literally cannot be worse than regular Lego. I put the “fumanchu” guy together a bit ago and I’ve never made one of the brick head figures so I have nothing to compare it to but it was fun. They had like a wizard looking bastard I also got and will put together later. Some really interesting parts that I haven’t seen from Lego. Like 1x1studs with a stud on the side. Again maybe Lego does it and I’m out of the loop im not a fan of snot building usually.

Plates sorry not studs plates. This is what I am meaning.

I guess maybe he’s like a master or something lol I don’t know.

This is what I’m getting for 5 and a quarter after tax and it’s block tech which isn’t bad from what I’ve seen.
>>
>>10954902
I've not seen those anime guys, but they look real cute. Reminds me of this Godzilla I passed on. But not really my style of a thing to keep. But for five bucks that's a great looking parts pack.

I like how this is turning out and I hope you get time to build that boardwalk up. I need to go buy actual wood and build my table maybe this weekend but you know how it goes. I hope there will be some vampires lost boys style hidden somewhere on the boardwalk.

Quick question lads.
The OP lists a bunch of brands : are they ordered (descending) by general quality ?
Are they all compatible with Lego ? If not, which ones?
Last question : the only non-lego toy i have is branded "team city" and i dont see it in the list, does it mean its utter shite ?
>>
>>10960821
everything thats not marketed as "micro" or "nano"-blocks is compatible with Lego.
The brands in the OP are similar or better quality than lego. You can buy any of those sets and you will generally have a good experience with it.
If you are looking at a specific set, post it here, maybe someone already has it.

>the only non-lego toy i have
>does it mean its utter shite

why dont you tell us?
But those chinese brands get re-labeled quite often when they are imported to Europe or the US/Canada.
So your set could be anything really.

Thanks for the rundown anon

The list is in no particular order, ymmv even within different series by the same brand (older Sluban will have worse clutch than newer, for example).
>>10960937
Team City appears to be an umbrella brand for that particular retailer, similar to Walmart's Play Day (which has included Sluban kits in the past).

That's funny, I literally just uploaded a build of the black car. It wasn't my favorite build, but it was the first one I got without a single faulty brick. Well, scratch that, only 1 faulty brick. But still best QC I've gotten from their sets. This set had a few parts I've been looking for including two silver binoculars and silver flat tiles and those Droid arm clip pieces in black.

I'm hoping the red car will yield as many useful parts. I scoped some translucent orange for headlights and am excited for those wedge pieces.

I was wrong i got the red and green and the green was garbage but the red I was surprised by and went together great…. Qc is definitely an issue but I’m still impressed and appreciate the find and you anon looks like the garbage is firing back up time to flood the moc thread with mocs and start again. I’ll watch that video soon I enjoy your videos and am glad you’re doing well. Keep up the good fight!

I hope you get that yard work done and enjoy the folks! I’m gonna go out later and see what’s worth seeing with the fake legos. I can’t stand all the infighting lol and buying fake legos sticks it to everyone! I’m nothing if not a contrarian but I like your vibe and wish you success and happiness in honesty.

I got my aliexpress order today for a bunch of shields and these funny rune-decorated mugs. The red on all the long shields is shifted downwards a little, but it doesn't bother me since I paid less for all of them (half off) than you would for a single legit one and it's not that noticeable. Long shields are printed on white plastic, triangulars surprisingly on a blue (slightly more yellow than lego's), so those areas are left unprinted.
The mugs connect to studs on both ends, and I'm already loving giving them to figures to toast each other. Minifigure hands can't hold the handles sideways like the skeleton here because the hand is too tall for the gap.

>>10954892
Lego does these only as the brackets with a half-plate thick plate behind the stud. I got a few of similar ones from a "open brick source" dinosaur, they're really neat because you don't have to build around the bracket plate and they're very sturdy pieces. I recommend that brand. Great for colored mixel joints as well, though their balljoints are very slightly too big for lego sockets, so I don't advise mixing those. They also do these weird anti-tiles they put on antistuds to smooth out those surfaces but I didn't apply them because they're really hard to remove. The pieces from my set were generally very tight fitting.
>>
>>10965991
That’s a shame about the handle I love those mugs! I’ll have to check those out. I got some more five below sets but haven’t broken them open yet. Will post results later.

Nice, I promise you won't regret it. Although I was slightly prescient in predicting increased clutch issues over the other ship, it wasn't nearly as bad as all that. The main issue was the hull pieces would sometimes come loose from each other and it was a ways into the build before they had overlapping pieces on top to fix them together but that was small potatoes.

Notable differences from the other ship include a lower sterncastle and more jutting prow; the cannons are also mounted differently, on centerline turntables rather than fixed broadsides. The crew of seven outnumbers that of the other ship by one (if the latter's monkey is not counted) and also comes with a green snake, as the scalawag in the jolly boat has just discovered.

The set includes a lot more strings than are actually used (one for the anchor, one for the rigging), guess they anticipated the poor quality of the string and included spares or they were thinking of the crane in the other ship that is absent here. The skelly figurehead is a nice touch and while the crow's nest can be fragile (same for the other ship) it's overall a great set. For about 100 maplebucks I have two good-sized pirate ships with 13 crew, 3 animals, 4 cannon and two rowboats between them, pretty heckin' sweet.

Lastly a direct comparison between the two and which is best suited for its stated purpose of privateering. I would argue the newer ship (Ship 2) is the ideal choice for piracy while the other (Ship 1) would stand up better in a naval battle scenario, based on the following points:
>race-built
Ship 2 is a good example of a race-built galleon, with no forecastle and a reduced sterncastle, making the overall vessel more streamlined and allowing for better speed and manoeuvrability. In naval engagements of the day these characteristics usually were not decisive factors in the overall outcome (with notable exceptions) as the doctrine of the day was an emphasis on line-of-battle warfare where maintaining position in the line was paramount.
>cannon placement
Ship 1 is of the conventional broadside style where the guns are mounted low in the hull and fire out of embrasures along the sides. Ship 2's centerline turntable mounts did not come into use until some time after the Golden Age of Piracy and are a bit of an anachronism here but offer significant advantages: being able to engage from positions other than directly parallel to the enemy; the ability to alternate fire between both sides of the ship with half the cannon necessary to do so effectively in the broadside manner; more stability from being mounted on the centerline; being mounted higher on the ship allowing for better disabling shots against masts, rigging and deck crew. If we're considering the line-of-battle warfare of the period (prior to the American Civil War and the widespread adoption of centerline cannon mounts) Ship 1 is more suited with its lower gun deck to inflict crippling damage to the enemy hull.

Both ships are more than adequate for the task, indeed very few pirate ships were ever purpose-built; generally they were the standard ship designs of the day, with myriad modifications and alterations to suit their corsair needs.
