Kek. Once you have a wife and kids and get to enjoy Lego with them it takes you back to being able to really enjoy them again. You don’t get stressed about upcoming sets. There’s no fomo. You get to play and build and destroy and rebuild again. I guess it’s just hard to describe how much more fun it is when you have a family to share it with. If you know you know. If you don’t know you probably should just end it.

seriously anon?

its when a single piece has 2 different color plastics injected into it, usually there's some color bleeding where they connect. not to be confused with printed pieces where the piece itself is of a single plastic with other colors being simply printed on.

examples: the brain animal, the witch hat/hair and horned hair in >>11122586
>>
>>11122604
It’s when two different colored plastics are used to make one piece. You know the minifigure legs with boots that even show up on the back of the legs? That’s it. That anon is a retard for not liking it. It’s way better quality than printing and it’s more lego than printing

its obvious kids don't buy lego anymore. They are pivoting to man children completely.

from running 3+ original new themes during the financial crisis to axing nexo knghts immediately.

i think ninjago kids were the last to actually buy lego

All the sets are good. They are typically really expensive. I don't think the value is bad, it's just you're paying a lot and getting a lot. Like your average set is over $100. And you'll see more $200-300 sets than $50 sets.

I'm actually surprised Sasha was not in one of the first sets, but HIS "inclusion" was almost guaranteed, based on the Lego leadership and/or design team's preferences

you might be able to blame Nintendo on this one, but I've pointed out before, there was 488 villagers to choose from and Sasha was 1 of them. each one they choose has some significant reason, it's not random.

I think there's a couple others like that; Dom is a sheep guy who looks "girly" and his quote is "be true to your most shiny self"

and to avoid the shock, you know about the fish guy and the bug guy, right? C.J. and Flick? they are "partners" it's said 100x in the game I'm shocked they did not make sets yet for either of them

I'll point out the Alpaca characters Reese and Cyrus who shockingly get girl/boy MARRIED in the game and you take wedding photos for them. Soooo.... it's not all propaganda

Yeah, I know about them. I'm going to say it's not likely, not yet at least. They're doing a lot of classic characters too.
Also if they wanted to add more gay characters they could have added Gracie.

in lego's defense those colors are being printed on white and yellow torsos which they still do fine.

That said pic related is an example of an old TLG printing light colors on a black torso, and while it was never perfect this still seems at least decent.

the NPCs belong in sets, if they ever did a CMF series it would be all neighbors, probably re-using the head molds they already have (maybe an excuse to spend money on an octopus legs/arms tho)

oh, what if each figure came with a new bug and/or fish? they would be re-using head molds, so they could throw some effort into bugs and fish molds

I think with 488 neighbors available, any CMF would be strictly survey-based, or from some other stats, of the top 12 most popular. they can't go with personal favorites or randoms, it just wouldn't sell very well (unless we wanted the new bugs and fish collections lol)

you probably wanted opinions on your choices. I like the mummy dog but I'm not sure they can print the wrappings all the way around, same with the glasses cat, printed on the face might look less like glasses. overall I like your picks, if you remove the 4 NPCs you can pick 4 more neighbors
>>
>>11123314
The prints don't look too bad it's just the alignment R is pretty good for yellow on blue with a sharp crevice L also has way better torso centering.
>>11123378
Not white onto red, red is a cunt to cover with both printing and painting.
>>11123392
Could be it as I said messing with the dwell can give better results but worse with other colours causing the print to dry on the pad or the white to not dry causing bleeding or colour contamination.

You see the same on old red classic space minifig the white has shit coverage the gold doesn't due to metallics have good coverage.

For example me:

>like cool things
So most of the times those are cheap or on discount because cool things are usually kids stuff (interesting mechs/wacky looking shit/crazy stuff)
>like Harry potter
But not all - just castle part + some of first three movies minifigures so i won't buy The Burrow/malfoy mansion - just some small stuff and hogwards pieces
>like mechs
but not all - just specific looking ones so i dont have that many
>JP/jw
but not all - just needed 3 velociraptors/Mouldoon (so that small 4+ junior set was perfect) and the final big scene set
>Dreamzzz
But not all - just mechanical robot-like stuff and a bit of dark stuff (so i have just a crocodile car and will get T-rex mech later and possibly Nightmare creatures set)
>like various food/accessories
so it's cheap because such stuff i can get from discounted frienzzz/Bricklink

- i dont like expensive modular buildings (smaller Creator buildings are good)
- i dont like afol sets because you can't really do anything with them (thought i admit that the most expensive JP set is kinda AFOL-ish)
- no marvel
- no SW

So for me it's cool - i dont spend that much on Lego and always ready to buy stuff when i want because its on discount/etc

Anons i know lego investing is lame and retarded. and i kinda think the same too
But its still so tempting
Lego is like one of the most fast selling things right now.
And i always see really nice deals and have a thought "damn if i was a lego reseller this could be easy money".

For example this mech now is 50eur.
im sure it will be 100 after couple of years after it retires.

Anybody in this thread actually tried reselling lego?
I have so much knowlege about lego sets and what works and what doesnt and i tend to find deals fast (to buy stuff for myself and open it) but i think im missing a lot of fun and free money not buying couple of additional boxes just to resell it

Lego is has a widest target group and sells fast regardless if it's being sold by investors or by lego itself.
It's a vip toy at this point. Despite it still having affordable sets as well. and it wont going away any time soon.

It's one of those toy-entities like Pokemon or Nintendo at this point.

hell..in fact. right now nexo knights minifigures are pretty much investable. I cant imagine their prices 20 years later.

I've tried a bit, I'll just stick to stocks from now on though unless I see a really good deal. Firstly storage and reselling is a hassle and takes time you could just spend working to make as much or more. Also I think modern Lego is in a bubble, Since 2022ish all the new sets are being scalped by a lot of people so the supply is high. If you want long term gains you might try investing in retired sets/minifigs, ie 2012 or earlier. The supply is guaranteed to be low in the future, unlike new releases. But of course annual yield will be lower since the prices are already high now.
A different strategy is buying used bulk and sorting it into the sets to resell. This is obviously the most work but has high profit margins if you buy the right stuff and a quick turnaround since you don't have to sit on it for a couple of years. I've been doing this lately (not for profit, just selling the ones I don't want to keep to make the ones I do want pay for themselves).

Speaking of investing in Lego, I do think a lot of people doing it fall into the same trap as people did during the Beanie Baby or 90s collector comic investment boom: assuming that just because old set X is valuable now every set will similarly increase in value. But value depends on rarity and desirability, rather than just age. Old boxed sets of Lego are expensive because the majority of the ones that were sold were bought by kids who opened and built them, and many of those no exist as individual bricks mixed with ones from a dozen other sets in some plastic tub. Meanwhile, if people are buying sets specifically to store in unopened boxes then those boxes will never be as valuable as there are thousands of them laying around in storage (to draw comparison with the big comic investment boom, the 1st issue of Superman is worth a fortune because only a handful of people in the 1930s though to save their copy and keep it in good condition, while Death of Superman is worth a couple of dollars in perfect condition because thousands of people bought dozens of copies and sealed them in plastic bags expecting they could later sell it for profit). Plus it also needs to be something people care about enough to want to spend money on. People are more likely to want to buy and rebuild old sets they had as children, or stuff connected to some popular brand like Star Wars and Harry Potter, than random sets about flower arrangements (again, 1st issue of Superman is expensive because he's one of the most well-known and influential fictional characters, while nobody cares about the 1st issue starring some random superhero who failed to catch on and had his series canceled after that one issue).
Of modern sets you can probably make good money with stuff like the Potter sets and ones that kids today will be playing with and feeling nostalgic for when they're 30, while all those bonzai tree sets people have gathering dust in their garage will likely not increase in value by a lot.

First off, hoarding boxed sets off the shelf and trying to sell them is extremely gay. It is however socially acceptable to sieve sets and pieces from used bins because you're saving Lego from a landfill, not keeping it out of the hands of customers and distorting the supply-demand landscape that marketing & sales uses to inform their strategy. You're also more likely to interact with people who actually like Lego if you stay away from the retail pipeline. I don't have hands on experience sieving/selling anything other than bulk, but the level of lament and butthurt I see and hear is unreal compared to how cheerful actual Lego fans typically are.

At the Lego store one time a guy heat-seeked me out somehow as someone who knew about Lego sales, and was asking me to give him advice on which star wars set to buy as an investment. When I started asking him very basic questions it was clear he never actually considered the numbers, and was just buying whatever investment good he was told to.
>I'm just gonna hold onto it for two years
>I only need to make another $20 on it
To the point where they'd be losing money before even factoring in overhead or distribution. I recommended he buy the UCS X wing but didn't really understand what I meant by "pay yourself $20 to keep it away from everyone." This guy is the standard issue and they're bailing out left and right.

On two separate occasions I almost caused scalpers to cry when making offers on their bailed out stack of boxes. One was a crackhead couple that got addicted to buying Lego boxes and needed rent, and another was a fucking landlord that kept insisting on showing me brick economy screenshots and had a whole thing about me not being compassionate enough or whatever. Get fucked.

>>
>>11123702
I mean, they did do it. Space Police III. I find the theme hilarious with all the probably unintentional unfortunate implications, with all the aliens being criminals and all the Space Police guys looking suspicious like the space-fascists from Starship Troopers. I don't think Lego's intent was to portray the setting as an authoritarian police-state where aliens are treated as second-class citizens, but that's the impression I get from the designs.
Tbh it would be very easy to fix: just add some alien police officers and make the police minifigures look less like the enforcers of some space-dictatorship. Though it wouldn't be nearly as funny as the unintentional space-fascists we got.

Creator sets aren't really a good comparison because they don't really rotate in the same way various themes do. They do get rotated out eventually but stay on shelves for much longer, probably due to using pretty much just common basic parts that stay in production forever, with no unique prints or the like.
For standard themes they keep replacing older sets in stores with newer ones every few years, even in cases where the theme is clearly successful and long-lived (like Star Wars).

Correct. None of those are categorized as a full Space Theme. That's the direction they went with a bunch of different separate themes that aren't actually space.

>>
>>11123995
The way they did the new Space stuff is kind of odd, since it's a subtheme of City, yet thematically very distinct from it. City already had space sets, but those were stuff either based on real-world space vehicles (your rocket launch base and space shuttle sets that Lego has been including in the City line since forever) or concepts for stuff that could be built in the near future (such as the space station set based on concept art for NASA's Artemis station that's intended to be the replacement for the ISS and should begin construction in 2030s). Meanwhile the new Space stuff is clearly more sci-fi in tone, featuring people exploring an alien planet. It's thematically very similar to the original classic Space theme, down to having astronauts with color-coded uniforms.
I presume it being presented as a sub-theme of City is due to the way Lego decided to simultaneously release space-themed sets across multiple product lines, so you had space sets in Technic, Friends, Creator, etc. In the past the minifigure-scale sets would have been the space theme for the Lego System product line, but Lego no longer really uses that term so they needed some other product line to stick them under and City was the best fit.

Though regardless of whether it technically counts as its own theme or a sub-theme, it does still show Lego is still willing to do minifigure-scale space sets that aren't just Star Wars or other license properties.
>>
>>11123915
Not really, but I do have a go-to minifig I tend to use when building MOCs and needing a minifig to scale things based on (like making sure windows of buildings line up with minifig eye level). It's Jet from Rock Raiders, which is the only one of my old legos I still have mostly because for whatever reason it had been left standing next to one of those mirrors for applying makeup in my mom's bathroom for over a decade.

As a kid it was a guy in the white ninja mask, with a custom "Master Sword." I called him Thief, after what people would start calling you in Link's Awakening if you stole something. He's still around somewhere, probably hanging out on one of the space bases.

Minecraft is ironically the only theme that still has soul. These sets are the most lego out of any theme. Basic bricks, basic construction of brick on brick. None of that annoying snot bullshit from someone trying to show off some useless detail technique. And bright colors, and lots of buildings. Every other theme is like 90% vehicles now. I want buildings and landscapes to fill out a playable area, not a parking lot.

Printing on legs makes the legs harder to reuse for something else. Look at picrel. Those legs can hardly be used for anything other than a prisoner. Plain white legs could be used for a civilian, knight, astronaut, pirate, Stormtrooper, sailor, etc and would still look just fine on a prisoner. Leg printing has become too common in recent years to the point that it's hard to make custom minifigs, when it used to be that minifigs only occasionally had leg printing so you always had plenty of generic parts.
Also it's cheaper for them to make.
>>
>>11124382
One opened close to me this year. Solid spot, great bulk at times. You can get some incredible deals and see some really laughable prices, just depends on how knowledgeable they are and how they try to run the business. Since they're franchised out, each one is going to be different than the rest most likely.
It's also fun talking to other Lego geeks, even if 9/10 of the people visiting and working are Star Wars/Disney/Marvel fans. The rest rarely understand the love for in-house themes and it shows.

I’m going to be moving from my house soon and want to get some sort of nice display shelving for my modulars, any suggestions guys?
>>
>>11124997
When moving and looking for display shelving for your LEGO modulars, there are a few key factors to consider: space, aesthetics, and practicality. Here are some suggestions:

1. IKEA Billy Bookcase
Pros: The IKEA Billy bookcase is a popular choice for displaying LEGO collections. It's versatile, with adjustable shelves, and can be fitted with glass doors (like the "OXBERG" doors) to protect your sets from dust. It comes in various sizes and finishes to match your decor.
Cons: Shelves might need reinforcement if you plan on displaying heavier sets.
2. IKEA Kallax
Pros: The Kallax series offers cube-shaped shelves that can be arranged in different configurations. The open design is great for displaying modular buildings, and the cubes are spacious enough for most LEGO sets.
Cons: Depending on the height of your modulars, you might be able to fit only one per cube, which could limit display space.
3. Glass Display Cabinets (e.g., IKEA Detolf)
Pros: Glass cabinets like the IKEA Detolf are excellent for showcasing your modulars while keeping them safe from dust. The glass shelves allow for a clear view from all angles.
Cons: Limited vertical space between shelves, so check the height of your modulars beforehand.

Pros: If you want something tailored specifically to your collection, custom-built shelving is an option. You can design the shelves to the exact dimensions needed for your LEGO modulars, incorporating lighting and other features.
Cons: More expensive and time-consuming to arrange, but worth it if you're looking for a perfect fit.
5. Floating Shelves
Pros: Floating shelves can be mounted at different heights and are great for saving floor space. They give a clean, modern look and can be arranged creatively to display your modulars in a unique way.
Cons: Ensure the shelves are strong enough to support the weight of the LEGO sets.
6. Adjustable Wire Shelving
Pros: Sturdy and flexible, wire shelving units (like those from Seville Classics) offer a more industrial look and can be adjusted to fit various set sizes. They're often on wheels, making them easy to move.
Cons: The open design may not suit everyone's aesthetic, and it doesn't protect from dust as well as enclosed options.
7. Wall-mounted Display Cases
Pros: These can be custom-made to fit your modulars, providing a secure, dust-free environment. Some cases come with built-in lighting, enhancing the display.
Cons: Can be pricey and requires secure wall mounting.
Tips:
Measure Your Space: Ensure the shelving fits both your room and the size of your LEGO sets.
Consider Lighting: Adding LED lights can enhance the display, especially in glass cabinets.
Dust Protection: Enclosed shelves or cabinets with doors will help keep dust off your sets, reducing maintenance.
These options should help you find the perfect display solution for your LEGO modulars in your new home!

Lundia has served me for over 20 years. It's modular, sturdy and comfy. But the catch is it's not manufactured anymore and tough luck finding it outside Finlandia or Estonia. But regardless, personally for me the modularity is the most important aspect

I love the huge mechs they are making

Does IKEA even make glass display cabinets anymore? I assumed they were out of production. In fact, I can't seem to find any furniture store selling glass shelves.

I know they don't make detolfs anymore, but I thought they replaced them with something else?

How is this a bad thing? The only good use I've seen for these is as minifig armour. I'm tired of how they look and being in nearly every Lego set nowadays

My memory of Playmobil is a bit faded from when I was a child. But the answer is kind of yes. Generally you assemble it. But it's more like you're connecting an entire wall section to a floor section to a roof section. There's a modularity to it. You can build something quickly. But you won't get the same intricacy as lego. In theory if you had a lot of playmobil sets and a lot of space, you could do something comparable to lego. It would just be impractical.

You need bricks inside, ideally 2x4. What you're proposing would be flimsy as hell.

everyone here is 40 years old with a high paying job so they can afford lego. and also very autistic

The original is Stonetoss. It's not in his normal style for whatever reason if you were previously familiar with him. The original is a joke about AI being built to detect one problem but failing to dynamically adapt to new problem on the spot, causing a larger error over time.
