== NIGHTMARE GROUPBUILD ==

Build a mecha encompassing different aspects of the horror genre. Examples include
>A mecha that incorporates general horror tropes from literature, film, and anime
>A corrupted version of an existing mecha/robot through magical, biological, or alien means (ie Symbiotes, parasites, Daemonic possession)
>Organic mecha (ie Evangelions) and monsters from /m/-related media (ie: the BETA from Muv-Luv)
>A mecha that draws inspiration from various demons or monsters from different mythologies and religions.

Submit your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com , include at least 5 finished pics and any WIP pics you took while working on your entry, as well as a brief description of your build.

Just watched War in the Pocket. It was okay. Those who pushed it to me as the "best stand alone Gundam story" need slapped very hard.
>>
>>11144486
It is very overhyped for sure. The Zeon designs are neat though.

Only ever heard people say that about 08th.
Thunderbolt is better than War in the Pocket.

nah
>>

I really like these but the armor makes it look like they have dicks.

Sadly it doesn't, Bandai is to much of a fag to ever give us something like that.

Fuck that literal noise, the soundtrack makes it unwatchable.

>>
>>11144685
Homie I've never touched Seed and I can't remember what happened in Turn_A
>>
>>11144685
Turn A is pretty soul until they go to space, which fittingly is the first use of CGI in the franchise
>>
>Thunderbolt
I don't know how the anime is or even how the manga progresses after volume 1 but this page is a big reason for me starting gunpla as a hobby.
But I do probably have very bad taste because
>Gundam Wing
love it, always. I often hear that Gundam fans don't like it that much.
>witch from Mercury
Had a lot of fun with it but the fights were too short.
>Mobile Suit Gundam F91
Loved the opening scene (the invasion), the music and the visuals but it drops a lot of potential when the plot just stops and runs circles for an hour before the final happens.
>Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team
People told me it was one of the best gundam media but I really did not like it. The music was great but that 9/10 character ended up being comedic relief characters (whos comedy didn't do anything for me) ruined the show for me.

I've build pic related yesterday. The build was easy and fun. Head, body and waiste did not have any nob marks but shoulders, arms and legs ended up with some. Panel lining the "chain whip" wasn't nice and bending it isn't that nice either. Biggest problem is the non existing articulation in the body and ancles.
I planed to pose him like in pos.1 but this is so instable that he falls over if someone sneezes across the street. Now I've posed him like pos. 2 and he is stable but I'm a bit sad because it doesn't highlight his special weapons (whip and gun fingers). But the spiked shoulder pauldrons and the pig snout still rock.

>Zoomer
Sure if you say so
>>
>>11145726
you could get a cheap stand
>>
>>11145726
Put a tiny bit of sticky putty or blue tack under his left foot if you can't get pos.1 to work. I've found for poses like that you are really relying on the torso weight to keep the foot flat which takes a lot of fiddling with the angles.
I prefer the whip to the Gouf Custom grappling hook which is just a thin plastic wire that "remembers" every slight bend.

It's as worth watching as any other Gundam series really. I actually kind of don't like the designs of the main gundams in 00, something about the thinness and the angles. I'm a big fan of the Tieren, and the Anf though so.

I've never had any problems with my rg wing zero, it's solid as a rock and the backpack holds poses just fine. How old is yours, mine is a first release, it could be mold degradation.

>>11147125
Also never had much of a problem with my tv zero, my standard hg wing and flame ferder though definitely do suffer from this.

>>11146007
Wouldn't say 00's second season is ass necessarily... it's definitely got a drop in quality, but It's lows are still highs compared to some other gundam moments.

I understand why some people prefer the s1 MS design, but you can't tell me that Exia R2 isn't a massive upgrade.

Bought one of these at the gundam base tour without thinking it through. What's the best way to deal with nubs on clear parts and the touch-gates?
>>
>>11149275
Glass file and water.
>>
>>11147052
If you get that one, be VERY careful. Some of the parts come preassembled and are fragile until you assemble them. Best word of advice is to make sure when you twist anything to assemble it, you do not hold either side of the joint too far apart. That's how you wait 6-8 weeks for a replacement part. The bottom set of wings need some top coat applied to cylinder that connects them, to keep them from falling. Otherwise, I like the model.
>>
I've seen a video where the Gundam Marker EX Chrome was used behind clear (like visors) parts to make them look better/ catch the light more.

What is it with this Gundam? I've watched 5 reviews of this kit now and non talked about any of the problems mentioned here but the comments are full with people talking about that stuff. Feels like it's a real lottery, you either get a perfect kit or you can just throw it away.
>>
Are joints loosing over time a problem with these kits?
>>
>>11150031
It can be depending on the kit and how much you repose them, but generally it's not an issue. Older kits or heavier limbs are more susceptible. If it really becomes a problem then fixes are easy.
>>
Does anyone know if these girls (>>11144380) can handle the gatling? I know that it will fit in general because it's all 30mm but I'm not so sure if the girls have the arm's reach necessary for it.

Certainly does. Even with normal plastic. Keep in mind it wont fix stress marks from cutting too close. The water acts as a lubricant and reduces friction a bit.

>Keep in mind it wont fix stress marks from cutting too close.
nta, why not? I thought that is one of the main reasons why you even do sanding.

Only thing that can fix that is paint, really. You need some nub to grind down.

Np. There is also a master grade, larger version, more detailed version, a ver ka mg with extra arms. The hg is cool but the pincers dont actually close.m, but you do get 2 balls for about $15 and thats a steal.
>>
>>11153934
You are misunderstanding the problem. Sanding is a preventative measure, you are supposed to snip far away from the part then sand the remaining nub down to nothing. If you snip close to the part, it will likely stress the plastic, and then you're way past the preventative stage, you need to start looking into fixes at that point.
>>
>>11153934
As others said, the stress on the plastic is it being stretched and torn. You can't sand that away. Well okay you can sand it away but there won't be much left at that point.
Personally I find that even when using god hands or a hobby knife to remove the remaining nub I end up with a stress mark directly where it was. Sanding the remainder down is really the best if you aren't painting.
>>
>>11154461
This is correct, but I am a lazy modeler, godhand snip and buffing with my fingernail is good enough for me.

Built a thing for the groupbuild. I'm not confident that I'll get the whole thing to work properly as per my original vision, but this is probably one of the more complicated parts that I just barely managed to make work without having to build parts from scratch. One of the pieces snapped shortly after taking the pictures, but I think I have a way to fix and reinforce it that won't require mad scratchbuilding skills.

>>

China post is way worse than USPS tho but it's likely due to how much farther the packages travel. My China post stuff always comes smashed up like that it's pretty much expected.

Considering topcoating some of the kits I got (Never done before).
I don't paint much, but I'll ask anyways.

I can find Mr.Hobby matte spray here, is the premium upgrade worth it or will a few extra layers get the same result? I know I'll already have to postpone spraying anyways, as the moisture's too high here.
Said spray is all good with waterdecals/stickers/gundam markers/tamiya paint? Read something about some coats not mixing well some time ago.

How well does it hide nubmarks? Some I got are the glossy/darker kind with a faint lighter edge around them. Will sanding down more and spraying be enough to hide the new scratches from it?

I'll probably try it out first on a cheap kit anyways I guess, just don't want to waste the money as hobby supplies are a bit pricey to get here.
>>
>>11161183
You don't want or need to do more than one coat. You should practice on something else first if this is your first time. Your are aiming for a coat wet enough to meld into one smooth continuous layer, but not so wet that it pools or gets thick and drippy. Spray in short bursts from around 10-12" away.

Yes, price matters, better topcoat will be more matte. Matte topcoat quality is judged by how little light it reflects. Mr. Hobby is generally considered to be one of the best (it is the best in my book).

Maybe it has to do with the "Japanese buyers are telling Bandai to label this storefront as a foreign seller because they're middleman-ing for non-Japanese buyers" thing I read about either here or on /m/. I think Surugaya and Mandarake are having the same problem.
>>
>>11164628
Some middleman services actually do it.
>>
>>11164193
>>11164511
This feels like a scam.
>>
>>11164885
They haven't taken any money yet and you can cancel the orders. They also don't really make any promises other than in might be fulfilled in the future. It just sucks.
What is kind of a scam is it being difficult to get refunds on things in the warehouse because you don't want to ship a single item. I wish they'd go through with what their emails say and wipe your warehouse after 90 days.
>>
>>11164511
Their stock is no different, this is a brand new line based on a big IP. Every Bandai item sells out super fast & Bandai provides no concrete number of units they will be allocated beforehand.

>>11164611
>they never enforce their time limit
They do, it's just not 60 days anymore and you only have yourself to blame for not reading any of the policy updates. It was unlimited due to Covid for years but now it is 6 months.

>>11164885
Only if you are retarded. A scam would make them money. They don't get anything until you get the item. USAGS is more of a scam b/c they allow more pre-orders than they will get stock then fulfill them all over years of restocks.
>>
>>11164630
That was pure "Source: My Ass" conspiracy theory nonsense.
>>
>>11164193
I have heard that HLJ will fulfill all their domestic orders first before fulfilling international orders

Am I just blind this morning, I thought the guide used to have a top coat section. I grabbed some Mr SuperClear Matte but now I'm second guessing myself on if I should have gotten a different one.

What is your issue with it? Its pretty good stuff, maybe tamiya matte is better but pretty close.
>>
>>11166399
Seeing a lot of people saying they are using a "flat" coat. Maybe my English is just off and that is the Matte?
>>
>>11166408
Flat is technically an even duller finish than matte but a lot of people don't care to differentiate and the it's not that large a difference in gloss anyway.

I bought this set because a lot of people were complaining about hard it was for them to build it. I like hard builds, I want the challenge.

This was not a hard build, its actually one of the easiest kits I've built. I would almost feel disappointment if he didn't come out looking so good. Starting to think people who insist gundam kits are hard to build are actually just retarded.
>>
>>11166449
>>11166451
One of my friends actually bought it as their first gunpla and they didn't have any issues. I have to insist they sanded the nubs off though because they were going to leave them. The only thing they did prior was an acerby or something like it.
>>
>>11166451
Also genuinely never heard someone say gundam kits are hard before, only ever heard other hobbyists say they are too basic and easy because the parts slot together instead of needing glue
>>
>>11166451
Gundam kits are just bionicles for weebs.
>>
>>11166459
One of the main complaints I saw was the armor falling off or it was flimsy, but this is one of the most solid feeling gundam figures I have built.

Translations can be confusing, always look at the Japanese name first:
>光沢 = gloss
>半光沢 = semi-gloss
>つや消し = matte, flat, etc
MrColor has only these 3 finishes.

"Mr SuperClear Matt" and "Mr SuperClear UV Cut Flat" are basically the same thing, the latter also has some UV blocker in it.

Mr. Super Clear Flat is the "best" matte topcoat in the sense that it reflects the least light. If you have the grey can pictured here you're all good
>>
>>11166459
"Hard" builds to me are ones with pain in the ass parts, like sanding Zaku 2.0 tubes, or ones with a lot of dull repetition, like building a shitload of funnels. There is also just plain bad engineering that causes confusing or difficult to assemble sections sometimes. You rarely see that with Bandai anymore, but other plamo, for sure.
>>
>>11166683
I feel like too many people confuse tedium with difficulty. Or maybe too many people with short attention spans get into model hobbies.

They can be as hard as you want.
>>
>>11166704
Well, now you're splitting hairs a little I think. "Hard" doesn't even have a specific definition, it's whatever you personally find challenging. And fair call, I do have diagnosed ADHD and sticking to tedious builds is a genuine challenge for me, so I call that hard. On the other hand, things that many people seem to think are difficult (like waterslides, dry transfers, and precisely placing stickers) are easy for me.
>>
>>11164511
I'm really putting my tin foil hat when it comes to Bandai these days. I get that there was increased demand during the pandemic because of people getting into the hobby, but we're 4 years removed from the brunt of it. Normies would have bailed on the hobby by now because that's what they fucking do. My local Hobby Lobby is back to being mostly used by literal Boomers according to the cashier.

But the stock on online retailers still isn't anywhere near 2018-2019 levels again. That makes me think Bandai is purposely printing low numbers of everything they make to save on money.

if they are like other lines (Figurise Amplified Digimon) there may be an additional reprint, but if it's similar to Macross or Yu-Gi-Oh! then it will be just one and that's all.
>>
>>11164406
you may as well skip them, the time to order them was when they were announced. Right now if you want one you will have to order from a local shop or scalpers.
>>
>>11164903
according to their new policies it's after 6 months (180 days). The 90 days limit is outdated info.
>>
>>11167602
Well they aren't enforcing it either way so it doesn't matter what they say the limit is
>>

i miss working for a distributor. I never had to put in any effort to get hype kits, I'd just pull one from the case when it came in.

>Well they aren't enforcing it either way
They are.
I had a kit I didn't want in my warehouse and after 180 days they automatically removed it and gave me the store credit.
>>
>>11168907
I have several items in my warehouse with 0 days remaining.
Also store credit and not an actual refund? Probably gonna be better to cancel new orders if you don't want to ship them from now on
>>
>>11168979
>0 days remaining
They haven't updated their website, so the "remaining" counter still counts 90 days.
In their reminder emails however they show the number of days the item has been in the warehouse and that number is correct.

personally it looks fine to me, yeah its kinda thick but its not bad

for panel lining you can look into a sakura pigma micron 005 pen
also pour type gundam markers
>>

im not sure! ill check my local model shop if they have it in stock :)

this version its a little janky though, some pieces keep falling off. idk how the HGCE version is.
>>
>>11171546
yeah i was thinking about buying a liner pen instead of a marker. ill try to find a store that sells those pens. i think the hobby store near me should sell those.
