I'm drawing the line at 7 inches. A couple of my Star Trek figures are 8 inches and they're a pain in the ass to display even though Trek characters mostly look best with their arms at their sides. I can't imagine how much space a bunch of 8 inchers with capes and dramatic poses would be.

What's you guys' opinions on pic related getting a black and yellow treatment like the Plastic Man wave Batman? The Plastic Man Batman has a really fucked up head but my favourite colour combo. Knightfall Bats has the greatest body but I don't like the grey yelmlw combo. Is a recolour possible or nah?

I saw a few video reviews. Pretty meh sculpt wise, they don't look good in any position. The articulation is very fragile, lots of people broke them out of the box. The worst for me is the price and scale, since is that big at least should have more detail but the whole thing looks like a huge 1/18 figure.

I'll take the McFarlane and Mafex diapers over all those weird crotches a lot of Marvel Legends and Figuarts have had over the years. I feel like Legends X-Men 97 Wolverine finally showed progression on that department.

Diapers are overall the best option if you prioritize looks over articulation which is what McFarlane has always shown and inclination fot.

But ofc that some times it goes horribly wrong like with Arkham City Catwoman.

If you count all the non-Multiverse stuff like Super Powers, Batman 66, BTAS/TNBA and Page Punchers then compared only to Marvel Legends then yeah, McFarlane does more.

But remember Hasbro has many other kid-oriented lines. If you count them too then Hasbro still makes more Marvel figs than McFarlane makes DC.

What the fuck is this abomination?
>>
DC Multiverse is what it is, but why is it that the 6in figures McFarlane DOES make (Batman '66 and DC Direct/BTAS) are so fucking terrible? The '66 figures aren't any fun if you're not nostalgic for the builds of half-a-century-old toys, and the Direct figures still have the awful poseability that was dated even for Mattel's time. How come Direct's molds haven't improved in the slightest, at least..?
>>
>>11147226
Batman '66 is designed for people buying purely of nostalgiabait memberberries, so the figures do not have any quality whatsoever. People go nuts over just the fact that an Egghead figure got made-- they don't care that it's literally using articulation on par with a 1996 Spawn figure.

Batman '66 was started before DCMV went down this route too and probably helped McFarlane realize people don't care about the quality of the paint or sculpt, only what character it is.

McFarlane's re-released DCD figures aren't updated because they have the old tools and it'd cost money to update them, simple as. They are just trying to milk max money out of the old molds, not produce a quality product.
>>

Batman 66 figs are supposed to be nostalgic figs just like Super Powers and the many others 5POA lines Hasbro and Super 7 have done.

It's a cheap form-factor to make that appeals to both nostalgic collectors and casual kids because of the colors.

The BTAS/TNBA figs are just re-releases. Easy money to make. But it's not like there's much room to improve there other than better stability. If you give them more articulation you'll just break the Animated Timm style.

I hope it does well enough so McFarlane can go full-on Justice League Unlimited in a couple years. That would mostly be all-new McFarlane sculpts but on that same style.
>>
>>11147291
Here's a hint: I believe the BAFs (not the regular figures) of the DCD waves are new, like Maxie Zeus and Lockup. But they are of more obscure characters and you have to rebuy all the old figures to build them, so I wouldn't do it. The articulation on them is not really that great either.

Your best bet is probably for McFarlane to lose the license if you're totally against 7in scale, but I'm not sure who could even pick it up. It was already with Mattel and they lost it. Hasbro is probably already looking at trying to wind down their collector lines with MLs increasingly going to fan channel waves rather than in stores. Jada which people propose is still years away from being able to make a ton of figures a year.
>>
>>11147291

>But it's not like there's much room to improve there other than better stability

>>
>>11147312
A large amount of figures would need to be made each year in order to get the revenue needed to cover the licensing costs of the DC license unless the license loses a lot of value (which is remotely possible if the DCU fails and Batman stops selling well).

Could go back to Mattel maybe? Otherwise I dunno, Jada would be fantastic and if they got the license they theoretically could scale up production in anticipation of the profits, but I doubt it'd work; then again, they ARE doing Scooby Doo, which is WB...
It wouldn't be my choice, but eitherNeca, SpinMaster, or Jakks getting the DC fig license wouldn't be a surprise to me. Warner would prob just give it to whoever they think would give them the biggest profit.
>>
>>11147350

>>11147322
NTA, but the former is actually ideal for the consumer. When the line is putting out unique sculpts like crazy you can buy them up and get a lot of cool unique sculpts you wouldn't otherwise be able to get. This allows you to get the benefit of the most expensive part of the toy making process, the tooling. The downside of this is then externalized to others later who continue to buy the line when the line falls into crappy reuse. However, as a consumer, you can simply abandon the line then and save money as the figures become crap reuse. This is how I have handled DC Multiverse and it worked out for me. I got a bunch of cool looks early on in the line, and now that the line is dogshit I don't have to buy it.

Some people just have trouble letting go and that's why they don't like this strategy.

That was a weird experiment for the Multiverse line.

If they do new molds for the BTAS/TNBA line they'll keep that syle and articulation like they've done with the few new figs they've already done.
>>
>>11147382
The people that cry about unique sculpts all the time are the people that demand the most bang for their buck out of a purchase. The insinuation being that they're poor and thus need to have all kinds of justification to spend the money on a purchase. If they're not getting the most bang for their buck, then there is less justification for said purchase. Really, it comes down to people are poor and need to find all sorts of reasons to justify buying something like an action figure.

People who aren't poor don't have this problem and just buy whatever they want to buy. I too buy toys for character and not for the object quality of the toy itself.
>>

>>
>>11147396
Someone responded with the old Multiverse animated Bats to exemplify how McFarlane could f¨*ck up new molds for the BTAS/TNBA (DCAU) line.

The Multiverse Animated stuff is clearly over. The only sad thing about that is that they did a cool TT Cyborg that will be alone forever now.

McFarlane will eventually run out of molds to reuse for the TNBA/BTAS line. The line has clearly done good and most likely given huge returns because fo how cheap it was.

So it's very likely McFarlane will end up making JL Unlimited figs in that form factor. However, it's a hard line to do re-use, so either they'll do few figs or start to do weird re-use like they eventually started to do for Multiverse.
>>
>>11147417

"I'll buy a piece of crap as long as they officially say it's the character that I want to buy" and "Anyone who thinks differently are just poorfags!" are 2 very weird statemates to make y'know? lol

I don't blame anyone who buys a figure no matter what as long as i'ts the character they want.

But I think we should have standards. Mattel did tons of characters in specific versions that I totally wanted and needed. But most of them were just completelly horrible, so no, I wasn't gonna buy a terrible toy only because it's supposed to be something I want.

Thanks to that mentality I avoided Mattel Dick Batman and now I can calmly buy McFarlane's version without thinking I lost my time and money years ago.

McFarlane's whole point used to be picking characters based on what looks cool. Why wouldn't someone gravitate towards (past) McFarlane based on rule of cool?

>>11147377
No big loss, the injustice version looks better and that's the one I got. I didn't have to have a Supergirl though if an acceptable one wasn't made, since as others noted, I'm not chained to characters. Some other characters people here would consider key "must haves" that I totally passed on: Aquaman, Martian Manhunter and the Flash. McFarlane just never made any look for them that I considered cool.

>>11147382
May be true depending on how wide your definition of cool is, but I still have space despite it since my criteria for cool isn't that wide IMO.

One could say similar things about collecting a lot of teams because you read some comics with them in it, or being a completionist. Those don't always let you pass on bad figures I would imagine, while I can pass on bad figures even if they look cool. Not sure if that is unique to the collecting 'cool looking figures' mindset or just me specifically though.

>>11147389
Nice strawman, bro. I love how people try to always work "y-y-ou're poor" into an argument on /toy/ no matter what it's over. Believe me, I wish they were making more toys with my taste in mind. I have some niche mech designs I would drop $4,000+ for a Robot Spirits on, even though Robot Spirits never get that pricey. But they will never be made since they aren't Gundam, Dunbine, Eva, Geass or the other IP Bandai go back to somewhat consistently.

Who, the mostly reused Joker with a different face?
>>
>>11147521
>Why wouldn't someone gravitate towards (past) McFarlane based on rule of cool?
Personally, I don't collect McFs, but if I did, I wouldn't buy something just based on how cool it looked. Sure, that may play a factor into my decision, but my priorities are 1.) is it a character that I like and want a figure of? and 2.) Is it from a comic or story or piece of media I particularly enjoyed. For instance, even though I don't collect McFs, I am tempted to get Dick Bats and Damian because I have such an attachment to that particular era and run of Batman. I already have the Batman Black and White statues, the Mattel Dick Bats and DC Icons Damian, but even still, I'm almost tempted to get the McFs. As opposed to say something from Death Metal (I don't think any of those designs are good, I'm just using it as an example). Even if I thought the designs were cool, I still wouldn't get them because I disliked the comic so much. I may be slightly inclined to get something based on rule of cool, but ultimately I prefer to have some sort of attachment to the source material instead of just buying what looks cool.

Really embarrassing that they put that on their site
>>
>>11147912
Legend has it that people were fed up with a kid friendly Batman and that Miller made Batman dark again. I didn't read Batman in the early 80s and late 70s though so I don't know how true those accusations are. It's probably half made up.

At the time they agreed to make the money, the reason things like Peacemaker and Penguin (and also that Dune TV show) were green lit was for the same reason Disney is also spending money on Hawkeye and She-Hulk, etc. To create content for the streaming services.

It's just that DC, while they have been successful with HBO Max that it will easily survive the streaming wars when Peacock and other shit won't exist by the end of the decade, hasn't had any luck using DC's IP to create streaming audience and retention, starting with ZSJL and continuing with all this. So they are cutting back but this was already paid for.

Disney is also cutting back. Agatha All Along is probably the last 'why does this exist' thing that they will be pushing out.

So how exactly are they going to get people to watch these streaming services if they dont put any new content out for them? Netflix is still green lighting stuff

Like I said, HBO/Max has actually had success. They routinely, besides Netflix, and along with Disney, are able to get something on the most watched lists that are taken seriously (since none of these companies release actual independent data) in the industry.

I mean, even Paramount, Peacock and whatever else exists, can get ONE thing near or in say a Top 20 list, one week or a few weeks, but the only constantly dominating is Netflix, and often with old crap like Suits.

WB is making new content. What I clarified was NEW content based on DC's IP (like Peacemaker or Penguin). And that Disney was doing the same retrenching - they are also approving new shit but not based on Pixar, Marvel or Star Wars (especially not SW).

So there is new content everywhere, just not core IPs they own being a major source of that new content.

>>11149229
Four companies will likely survive. Max being one of them, Paramount will likely be dead with two to four years of Skydance completing the entire merger. Hulu will be considered the fourth even if it's essentially Disney+ that's NOT DISNEY.

At some point Universal will decide to partner with someone (like Amazon or Apple) and give up going it completely alone. I doubt it will be Skydance/Paramount and definitely won't be Warners or Disney, however.

That's an awful boot, broken into two pieces of plastic. Plus the diaper is way more noticeable and therefor problematic because it, the waist area and what looks like a teenage girls crop top, all look like three different, unrelated pieces of fabric. They don't even look like they are the same plastic, at least in that picture.

The red is allegedly the harder to find version. I've seen the blue discounted on EB so it shouldn't be hard to find.

Some of the 'shillier' YT's get free versions from the Toddfather. I think only a few own up to it in every video, if you don't follow them regularly, you wouldn't know.
