Can you fit a door-sized layout in your room? Building on a hollow core door is plenty for N scale. You can even get a half-decent layout in 2'x4', with two loops, a loop and a figure 8, or a loop and a yard. Go all-out on the details and you could easily work on it for a couple of years.

I've been thinking about modeling Southern Pacific and Western Pacific through Niles Canyon in Fremont, CA, modeling a couple of the bridges. In 2'x4' this is the best approximation I can come up with.

I remember holding one of these for the first time and being amazed at how heavy it was, especially compared to pic related.

How do you guys feel about fantasy paint schemes? Would you ever own one? Would your answer change if a fantasy scheme were the only way to get an engine you wanted, or the only way to get something in a specific road name?

Conrail steam locomotives are based.

What exactly is the situation you're imagining here? There are no models of the engines a railway actually owned, just models of engines it didn't own in its livery?

I guess it depends. If i think its neat ill pick one up. Im a big WM enjoyer so when Athearn did their fantasy ES44s in the WM scheme I had to get one. I run it alot and I enjoy it.

Just got into this hobby.
After contemplating whether I should go for N or HO scale and digital or analogue. I ended up just going all out with a Trix digital startset, a railset and extra turnouts and bufferstops.
Also I ordered a Norwegian Di8 in Cargonet livery and a lgns container wagon, also I got a Swedish sdgmns container well wagon.

Also the steam-engine that was included in the box was defective, so i got a diesel locomotive for about 66% off, it's a Trix DB v80.
