People that struggle with posing and are not too insecure to admit, what is it that you find difficult?
>>
If I knew, I would fix it.

I don’t think anyone is bad at posing, it’s just that we have a limited amount of display space so that’s why we can have every figure in some amazing pose, it’d take up too much room. That’s why you get a lot of museum stances in a display.

Some people suck at posing it uses the same skills as free hand drawing. People good at drawing are usually very good at posing. Posing is nowhere as difficult or skillfull as drawing a whole picture from nothing but it's still using similar skills.

I think a lot of people also don’t know how to use all of the articulation. I think people should try to match poses on the box or poses online to get a feel for articulation, then maybe try to pose a figure based on an image of a real human being. Get a feel for how the human form works and how you can make the articulation work for you.

Posing a figure well doesn't give you any merit. It just shows how much you care or not care about it and both are okay
>>
I think I'm alright at posing, my problem is I suck at photographing them at the right angle where the figure looks as good as it does in my hand

Sometimes i just look at comics to get broad ideas but mainly i just try to tell a story.

I just pull down what i want to mess with. So its either youre a box collector or cant pose. Guess pleasing op is out of the question.
>>
I suck at posing but I think that if you do suck at posing its just a skill issue.
When I fiddle with a toy I can feel myself getting better at posing,so really you just need to pose them a lot.
Also Im scarred to break them sometimes
>>

I don't but the only reason I don't is that I've done some animation and understand the concept of weight and line of action, follow through and stuff like that. Many people haven't though and thinkg just raising an arm is totally ok to indicate a punch.

Fuck, this hit home pretty hard. I can hit a pose that looks great, but the lens never catches how I see it on my table. Even still standing exactly where I am and moving the camera up to my eye.
>>
>>11205863
The depth of field in photography is influenced by the aperture, focal length, and distance from the subject, whereas the eye adapts automatically to different lighting and focuses dynamically.

For me I display most of my figures on staircase risers in detolfs so if one figure goes down, it's usually a domino effect and takes down several figures in front of it. Because of that and not wanting to have to give everyone an eyesore of a claw stand, I tend toward simpler poses mostly. Also with some more fragile imports, I get paranoid about breakage if I go to crazy despite it almost never happening.
>>

I buy mcfarlanes so the legs can't look natural since there's no swivels for minor adjustments on the legs and the ankle joints only have a tiny bit of ranges based on the ratchets usually. They tend to be easy to topple over in any unusual posing since they're so heavy. When I pose an import it amazes me how much easier they are.
>>
>>11205870
Thank you so much for explaining this. I was beginning to think I was just huffing copium.
>>
>>11205968
I probably didn't explain it very well but the best camera is nothing like an eye.
>>
>>11205982
You explained it way better than I understood. Absolutely no sarcasm here.
>>
>>11205982
Or "eyes" I should say.
>>
>>11205721
I think I'm okay with posing; the lack of good lighting, camera, and flight stands impedes my ability to take decent photos. I tend to look up poses online and try to replicate them the best I can.
>>
>>11205721
posing always came pretty easy for me probably because i draw as a hobby as well. if there is one thing i somewhat struggle with is posing figures to be punching each other. i always feel unsatisfied when i post a figure getting hit and showing that "transfer of energy" kind of thing that i want. posing a figure punching is fine. posing a figure getting hit is alittle more awkward for me.
>>11205733
this also applies to me somewhat but i just resign myself to museum poses on the shelf, actions poses when i play around with them on the desk.

I feel like I do great with posing, but I suck ass at actually photographing it.

It's mostly just space and laziness.

Most people that "collect" arn't going to have just a couple figures. They are going to have a shitload and that means wanting to have them all displayed. and posing also requires actual effort. I'm sure a lot of people get a figure in a pose the first day they get it, and then it pretty much stays that way for months. again more likely if you got a lot of stuff. now that I type this stuff out I realize I might appreciate and play with my own figures more if I just keep a couple out on display at a time. rather than feeling like I got to have everything displayed at once. Hmm

And laziness, posing requires actual effort. a good amount of my figures I get in a pose, and they will stay that way for a long ass time.

Yeh, you really need a decent stand for that.

Here is a tip for posing that no one ever taught me; If you think you have a great pose, but you aren’t sure, rotate the figure 360 degrees and you will probably find something wrong with the pose from a different angle. Sometimes when you get a decent pose you’ll actually refuse to look at it from other angles and then be confused when the pose dosent translate to the camera. The other big thing (previously mentioned in the thread) is camera angles. Use more creative angles and move your camera into more uncomfortable positions

>rotate the figure 360 degrees and you will probably find something wrong with the pose from a different angle.
This. It's the equivalent of flipping your canvas when you draw to check your work.

It's really not that hard guys. Unless some people dont have enough imagination?
>>

>>11207049
thats literally the struggle though. You want good poses not the same boring spider shit everyone else does. The real secret is good pose + right angle
>>
>>11207389
My problem is the lighting. I want to have nice lighting but I want to do it very cheaply.
