The season has arrived once again, and after a considerable wait, we are set to receive another film in the Lord of the Rings franchise. "War of the Rohirrim" is scheduled for theatrical release in December.

In this discussion, we will explore the forthcoming toy line, review previous Lord of the Rings toy collections, and consider the potential for new toys inspired by an array of upcoming content, including the 2026 Lord of the Rings film and merchandise related to "Rings of Power," for which Amazon will hold the rights, I hope so.

I’m not sure it has enough news for its own general, we have an all encompassing fantasy toy general over here

I wanna talk about lotr too so

Like I need a figure of this sexy bastard
>>
>>11217914
Those figures in the OP look terrible. I do like the DST line despite all of its DST-isms. I guess I'm just happy to get representations of these characters that look better than toybiz.

Toybiz line had SOUL
>>
>>11217925
Absolutely, but they don't hold up to modern standards display-wise. Still one of the best toylines of all time for me.

Not awful

Indeed, so much diversity. I think they added to the epic feel of the trilogy. That toy line was like what Kenner did with Star Wars back then.

Yes...

That sucks, I would have definitely bought it if it were plastic.

I agree, that thread moves slow enough that some lotr discussion would've been very welcomed just to keep it active.

>>11217921
I got the first wave of the DST stuff and they are....ok. They look good, but there's too many issues for them to be fun to actually play with. I mostly got em all for the Sauron BAF, which I also think is great, but again....full of annoying problems.

>>11217926
The Toybiz line is easily the best LotR line to date, but the toys themselves are very much dated. Pre-posed figures with wonky articulation, floppy weapons, sculpt ruining gimmicks and *way* too much paint wash. But they still have a lot of charm and their horses and mounts are all really nice for the price they run.

>>11217928
>>11217930
If these figures had more modern articulation (at least knee and elbow swivelbends) I probably would've liked a couple of em, but as is I'd only buy them to get the troll to use with other 3" fantasy lines.

>>11217935
>>11217945
On screen it looks impressive, but in person it's a wonky scale and the cardboard looks kinda cheap. Should've done it at a bigger scale but sold it in parts so you could build your own damn castle.
>>
>>11217925
Still an excellent toy line to collect, especially if you like to customize.
>>
>>11217930
They're not bad but at the same time I wish they'd gone for a throwback to the 2000s line in terms of looks, and presumably scale. Looking at these I'm going to guess that they're either 3 3/4" or 7" scale.

Who should get the license for the 2026 film? I think they will go all legacy toys based on the trilogy with hunt for gollum since it will bring lots of old characters back.

I say spin master for kids toys and mcfarlane for collector figures.

Probably McFarlane, if the film even comes out at all.
>>
>>11217988
I am sure it will, script is done, filming should start in 2025 and deals with actors are underway to reprise roles, they will use cgi and ai to de age them. Dune 3 got pushed back from decwmber 2026 to march 2027 internally so lotr will take the christmas 2026 spot.

Saw these at WalMart today, $20 each, didn't care, didn't even bother to look through the figures. This line and the film look like shit. LOTR destroyed it's own legacy with the Amazon show. I only buy based on the original Peter Jackson films, so I'm only buying the DST line currently. You can choke on your mcF goyslop
>>
>>11218149
The legacy of the films was ruined long before Amazon screwed their pooch. Those damn prequel movies were awful through and through. At this point, the original trilogy seems to be the exception, not the rule.
>>
>>11218217
The Hobbit Trilogy is a different sort of awful to RoP. There is some good in there, and most of the bad stuff is either due to studio executive meddling demanding it be an EPIC trilogy, or from the fact that adapting a kids book where nearly none of the characters get any development is a hard task. I do 100% blame Jackson, his wife, and his wife's friend for the elf bitch though.

RoP is what you get when people that don't care about a universe get to write their own fanfiction set in that universe. It is literally Sonichu tier awful.

>>11217978
No, get the older sets

Rings of Poeer is great. Season 2 redeemed it and I am tired of haters.
>>
>>11218418
How did they redeem it? You can't build a stable house on a shitty foundation, so unless they opened with a scene where they play Season 1 in fast forward, and then Galadriel wakes up and says "that was a horrible nightmare" I'm going to press X to doubt.

Holy shit, nice! I might have to get some of those, I normally don't care for realistic people figures but I loved the LOTR movies so I might have to take the plunge.
>>
>>11226525
Neat.

In other news, I picked up Return to Moria for cheap the other day and it's pretty fun so far. The building and combat can get a bit jank, but the exploring, survival aspects and just feel of the game are lots of fun, especially with a buddy or two. Singing songs while you mine for ore will never get old.

Was only $20, and after a few days I certainly feel like I got my money's worth. Not goty material or anything, but a nice way to kill a few weeks on a fun little adventure.

All I wanna know is when I can take those goddamn Hobbits to isengard
>>
Figuarts are so boring, why not have an original take on the characters instead of using 20 year old movies? Stuck culture
