Wasn't fond of their Megatron/Primal being more mechanical(I like Transmetals, but I'd rather have the Season 1 looks be faithful, especially since their color layouts contrast organic and mechanical), but I like how this looks. I feel like I would care more if they didn't flub the dinos modes. Not that they look bad, but NA actually put forward the effort to give the dinos some posability, and I really expected MS to go the extra mile and flex their engineering. Instead, they disappointed.

Did anybody else nab a cheap MS Spock from ShowZ? I had just enough points to get one for free. Kind of forgot how hard Magic Square's engineering goes.
>>
>>11225491
I was considering it but I really don't like to buy double of the same character. I already have the NA.
I might buy the mold if they ever make the Radio Shackwave but MS is allergic to making money from repaints apparently.
>>
>>11225493
I'm surprised they didn't already make a Shackwave - I had figured they'd done that right away. I'm thinking of picking up the NA one in those colors, since that one looks awesome as well.
>>
>>11225494
I was also considering the NA Shackwave but I wasn't willing to pay that much because I wanted three of them to match the Transformers Devastation attack formation he had there. It would have been way too much money on something I'd only ever reserve for the seekers because they're the seekers.

>>

I don't see where the criticism of their dinosaur modes is coming from.

But then I'm not shrieking for a 2.0 (or toon version) of the FT Dinobots either.

FT, NA, MS, and SS86 (mostly) have all looked more or less what I expect the Dinobots to look like. Even the POTP set, barring Grimlock (a trainwreck), wasn't bad. It's all of the others that look weird to me.

Is dp robot store on ali legit? I ordered $100 worth of stuff from them over a week ago and they took so long I thought about cancelling, then right as it was about to hit the 10 day limit and give me a full refund they suddenly marked my stuff as shipped. I'm not going to bat for either of them. I do not care for hyper-toon-accuracy. It does not result in good toys.

>>
>>11226613
Not him but I like it along with my NA stuff.
I just like robots in general. Always with these caveman like divisions for something generally super subjective.
>>
>>11226613
Not him, but I've been thinking about this more than I probably should recently. I like to say I don't care that much about toon accuracy, but I don't care for the Cang Toys method where it's barely recognizable as the character either. I also kinda hate the "cheating" done via faux parts and such to make stuff look toon accurate like MP-44 and such. I'm impressed by the engineering and all, but at some point it feels like it's missing the point. I want my transforming robot toys to feel like a logical 3D-space representation of the character I guess, if that makes sense.

I'm also one of the weirdos that likes the MMC Cliffjumper over the FT and XTB ones for basically that reason.
>>
>>11226624
You're not really going to get a "logical 3D space representation" of magic size changing space robots, anon. You're in the wrong toy lines for that. It's all about making them look like the character they are.

Which is why just about everything is a spaghetti panelformer these days. Even some mainline shit sort of is. If you want neat mechanical bits and "muh realistic representation" stuff, I guess go build some Master or Real Grade Gundam models or something.

>>
>>11227106
I haven't played Devastation, but that's just G1 designs isn't it? G1 fans are usually pretty spoiled for choice, though in particular for the other three playable in that game:
>Bumblebee, Wheeljack
Believe it or not only the HasTak officials (and the KOs) exist for MP for these guys at the moment so that's really your only choice there. Bumblebee has two versions though so up to you if you want MP-21 with its more realistic car mode and less accurate robot mode, or MP-45 with its more toon accurate car and robot modes but with way more kibble.
>Grimlock
The HasTak one is a bit outdated but it's there if you want it. Same with the Fanstoys one desu, the Gigapower one is more recent and better IMO. Supposedly there might be some other companies working on MP scale Grimlock (like the recent Mecha Invasion Devastator had images of a Grimlock chest so they're probably working on a Volcanicus if you care about having that at some point).
>>
>>11227133
>I haven't played Devastation

I gotta be honest with you /3pg/

I regret buying Magic Square's Mirage over Newage's. Yeah it's bigger, but holy shit I hate the transformations, and the shoulders are awful.
>>
>>11227770
I don't do Magic Square because my tastes don't line up with their designs and engineering, but I got Newage's Diaclone Mirage and it's not super good. It's okay yeah but the size really hurts it and some of the proportions and articulations are outdated. Between the shirt thighs and the knees bending 90° max, the figure isn't really fun to pose, which is a shame too because I love red mirage.
>>
>>11227823
I have both, and honestly, neither Mirage is really "better" than the other, they're both very frustrating in different ways.

If I HAD to choose one winner it would have to be Newage's, because MS' shoulders absolutely suck. It doesn't help the black paint on them scrapes off way too easily thanks to transformation.

>>11227839
That kind of "hot rod shoulder" design can singlehandedly ruin an entire figure, it's so bad. I don't know how anyone can stand it
>>
>>11228029
This may be my biggest pet peeve of the last five years for Transformers and adjacent lines, and it always happens to figure I want to love and would be infinitely better without that shit, it's the worst.
>>
>>11226595
Both. The kind of engineering required to make the Sunbow models work as transforming figures makes transformations horrendously fiddly and overcomplicated, and also adds a lot of panels and hinges that stick out like a sore thumb with no surface detail for them to blend into, kind of defeating the aim of a clean cartoon-accurate robot. That's without getting into the subjective matter of whether you like how the cartoon models look enough to want 1:1 recreations of them. Also the increased partscount from the engineering massively balloons the price of the figures; remember when Legends scale stuff was actually pretty affordable? I 'member.
Personally I prefer more detailed looks for my 'bots, the tooniest I can really go is the Maketoys Seeker mold (which to be fair is a very nice toy despite lacking surface detail here and there). Doesn't have to be Cang levels of hyperdetailed, but the Hasui era stuff is my preference. Stuff like MP Prowl manages to get the right balance between faith to the character, being fun to manipulate as a toy and looking more interesting than a stack of boxes.

Hey, I CAN transform fiddly toys, I just rather wouldn't, you know? Toys are by definition supposed to be fun, and IMO at least trying to massage a trillion panels on the ends of spaghetti-armatures into shape isn't fun.

NewAge and Magic Square have definitely increased in price compared to when they debuted.

Okay. One example.

I would sooner argue that this is from their popularity rather than parts count. MS is a company that just put out a Shockwave for $20 when it was originally $45. Their Grapple went for $45 before being boxed set with Inferno for $40 in competition with the NA figures.

remasters are right around the corner but there is something holding things up. It's no coincidence that we are getting back to back Reactivate, WFC and Devastation toys with none of the tie in games being available. There must be legal reasons that forced Hasbro to release everything early.
>>
>>11231203
Reactivate probably was a lead game that would open up the brand back into vidya but it seems to have crashed and burn to such a degree that everything else got dragged into it.
>>
>inb4 games got canceled for tax right off reasons
>>
>>11231210
Reactivate is such a strange case. From the 5 seconds of footage we saw it played identically to WFC, but the damage numbers and internal documents make it sounds more like a F2P live service game. I'd imagine it wouldn't be flattering to release a game like that if FOC 4K was also available for 30$, especially if it doesn't even have a single player campaign.
>>
>>11231203
>>11231210
Reactivate is 100% cancelled. It was a Suicide Squad style live service looter shooter in an industry atmosphere where that's a death sentence and it's been in dev hell for years. They'd be better off closing the studio and saving the money on printing copies than releasing it.

It sounds a bit like you really rushed to conclusions here desu. Buying anything from China takes ages and in my experience Aliexpress actually moves relatively quickly if anything in comparison to like ShowZ and whatnot. I've had experiences sometimes even with the big sites where it takes a day or two before the tracking number works, but with Aliexpress the most common thing is just that it's probably some flipper who can't find stock so they either take ages before they ship or they twiddle their thumbs doing whatever the fuck before asking you to cancel the order.

In this case if your dispute doesn't work and the package actually ends up coming and there's some kind of issue, you wait until the package comes, carefully record the process of you opening it, and then dispute it again (I've yet to be scammed but I still record all the packages I open just in case since it's not a big deal to do so either way). If you have video evidence if you being sent the wrong thing there's usually no way for Aliexpress to be ruling against you.

>>
>>11233526
The Throttlebots are weird. Sorry but j just can't remember their names. Green white and Goldbug feel like high quality Hasbro figures with high quality Classics/Universe era engineering and materials. Red and Blue meanwhile feel like Alternators-grade overengineering with KO-grade low quality plastic that doesn't feel capable of enduring repeated transformations, they don't hold together very well in robot mode either. Orange meanwhile is 60% panels and literally requires bending plastic to make things work, he's awful.

Really just get green white and Goldbug and leave it at that. The Combined mode isn't worth having to deal with red blue and orange.

Got my Planet X Apocalypse reissue today! I've been looking forward to him - I never owned an official Trypticon, and I missed out on the first run of this guy way back when because I didn't have the money for him at the time. I love how he looks - his WFC design was always my favorite, looking less Tyrannosaurus-like and more Godzilla-y. Plus he was awesome in the game.
Anyway, it took a bit longer than expected to actually fiddle around with him. My initial attempt to transform him out of the box ran into a bunch of issues - parts colliding with each other, things not matching up with what's being shown in the instructions, peg holes in his chestplate apparently not having the pegs they're supposed to attach to, arms flopping around, and a complete inability to get his robot head out of his chest. After about an hour of frustration, I looked up a video, where I realized the problem wasn't me (for once) - both halves of his torso had been misassembled, and both of his forearms were inverted! I had to take him apart, swap bits around, and gently reassemble him while fighting against the springs in his shoulders to get him back into his correct configuration (and ended up slashing my hands to bloody bits in the process). Fortunately, it seems he accepted my blood offering - once he was reassembled, his transformation into all three modes went off without a hitch, with all the 'missing' pegs now located where they belonged\ the ratchets in his arms now having the springs inside them to hold them secure, and his head now having the needed clearance to move around.
He's basically perfect now, and I'm enjoying him quite a bit, though he's actually quite a bit shorter than my modern Titans.

Using the LEDs in the shoulder pods to illuminate the central spire in the dark looks pretty cool, though.
Oh, he also splits into two separate things for some reason - a smaller spaceship, and a 'scorpion' monster. No idea why, but it's not a feature I imagine I'll be using often.
Anyway, that's my blog - really, I just thought I'd ask if anyone else who picked up the reissue had the same issue with misassembly in his torso and arms, as I don't think I've ever had to take apart and completely reorient an entire Transformer - official or otherwise - before, and it seems like something people should be warned about.

>>
> Looking to buy old, unpopular MMC figure
> eBay listing for $125 USD with $25 shipping is the cheapest option
> Seller is Japanese, better check Mercari
> Exact same listing; 6000 yen.

Genuine question, why is there such a huge price difference between Japanese site listings and those sellers listings on English sites?
To buy the JP listing through a service would end up costing me half as much as buying through eBay.
>>
>>11238507
Does that ebay account have like, hundreds of items all duplicated from mercari listings?
>>
>>11238514
Yep, that'd do it, the account has thousands of listings.

I've been looking to get Mastermind Creation's Dominus Ambus for a while now.

>>
>>11238522
What's with the sarcasm? You're the one asking. If a single shop has hundreds of 2nd-hand listings from another platform, it's a sure sign of a dropshipper.
>>
>>11238535
There wasn't any intention of sarcasm there?
I genuinely never would have spotted that and it explains a lot about why I've seen routine price disparities when I look at JP listings on eBay.
>>
>>11238535
>>
>>11238551
So it's really a dropshipper off mercari? I guess with the weak yen and 200% markup it does make sense.

Is Iron Factory the slowest 3rd party manufacturer ever ? it's honestly impressive how long they take after releasing finished sample picutres to actually release them. I really hope this Diaclone Powered Convoy comes with the regular magnus head by the way, if not, it will be a very reluctant pass, as the Magnus Shattered Glass head is shit.
>>
>>11242117
Iron Romance has them beat. 40 Months for one figure with a one year delay between the expected and actual release. Trojan Horse will probably beat both of them if they aren't dead and actually release their Dinobot. As for the Magnus head, I'll just give him a sword and pretend it's Samurai Powered Convoy
>>

I was thinking about this earlier, maybe you guys who post the Baidu links to 3P news have some insight.

In the past year or so, I've started listening to Aaron Archer's podcast as well as reading interviews with the current designers at Hasbro, and I've learned a lot about the toy business from them. It seems to me that it's such a niche industry to begin with, then when considering that these figures really only cater to a smaller faction within that already (assumably) small collector market, it's just sort of fascinating to me from a business perspective how pervasive and successful 3Ps are.

My question is, do we have any insight into how 3P companies start and operate? Some of this may just come down to Chinese business practice, which I am wholly unfamiliar with, but I'd be interested in knowing the whole process. To me, a self admitted layman, the jump from say, designing a figure, to having molds made, figures assembled, packaging designed and produced, and having products shipped worldwide is massive. The costs involved have to be huge, and sure, that's obviously reflected in the price of these figures, but there has to be some serious talent involved in getting it all together.

So are there any companies that we have a good picture of how they operate? What kind of staffing and background they have?

It does occur to me that maybe some of this isn't as open and outward due to copyright concerns, but then again, this kind of information may be out there and it simply doesn't make it towards the West due to a cultural and lingual divide. Don't forget to hit me with a tldr, call me a fag, or some combination of the two.
>>
>>11244102
>>11244105
>>11244109
Part of Hasui's design philosophy for MP-10 is that it isn't accurate to either.
MP-10 is the Optimus that is from your imagination as a child
>>
>>11244666
>MP-10 is the Optimus that is from your imagination as a child
That's one hell of an assumption.
>>
>>11244666
Which is how MP should be. Take all of the best aspects of the old designs to make the perfect figure. Hyper accuracy only leads to overcomplicated engineering and cheat parts.

It's not that different production-wise just that most 3Ps are unregistered. They still need a lot of capital then everything else down the line can be outsourced, even the design work. Technically Hasbro themselves is outsourcing everything outside concept design to TOMY.

>logistics
Probably the biggest difference with 3P. International distro seems mostly handled by the overseas stores individually.

>this isn't as open and outward due to copyright concerns,
It's not open because it's mostly a person-to-person connection thing. In China, you want to keep business connections ("Guan Xi") personal or else they'll totally fuck you over otherwise. In the context of toys that means selling your CADs or molds to the black market, which happened all the time with early 3Ps, see DX9 Hulkie and Gravity Builder. Because of this culture there is rarely need for the contractors to advertise openly.

One exception was TFC's factories. They tried to open up to contracts outside their "circle" for a while but seemed to have reverted back to just CANG atm. Still their online portfolio might be of interest to you:

I’m a sucker for a plain red sports car that turns into a kibble-free and well articulated robot

These thighs are THICK as hell and I think that really sells it for me.
Too many Transformer legs just look to thin imo but this looks like a warrior to me.

DX9 is still alive? I thought they died years ago.

Does anyone have those fans hobby shield and sword minicon sets? Can the legacy armada figures hold them? Or are the only compatible with the fans hobby figures?

>>11249352
Damn that's nice, can't wait for $175+ pricing.
>>
>>11249669
It’s probably going to ballpark for $120 because G1 tax.
Now if it was FT, then yeah it would be that price.

I just put in an order for this guy. My first 3P figure since I think Striker Manus.

Legacy can hold them, but both the sword and shield are too heavy for something like Legacy Starscream to hold.

Something like Legacy Overdrive can hold it way better because of the stronger shoulder joint she has, but I would still be concerned that it would eventually loosen it.
I think if the arms have ratchets in the shoulders and elbows, they'll be fine.

Prices are gonna climb with the coming tariffs. Expect $45+ increase on all third party not-yet-in-the states.
>>
>>11249846
I hope they do change that

Thanks. I was curious because I'm about to buy the overload to further deck out my Optimus and I figured if I got the shield, and maybe the sword too, he'd look even cooler. >>11245854 may skip the sword since he's got the jetfire gun but the shield will probably have him looking great.
