I had an order worth 16,170JPY + 2,590JPY Shipping.
So 18,760JPY which is way below 150 bucks.
I was still charged 28 bucks customs to get my shipment....

What the fuck is going on?

how the fuck do get JUST 28eur?
nigga i pay almost 40eur usually
>>
>>11226989
Did you get charged 28 Eddies for VAT, or for customs?
Because the third paragraph in your screenshot says you still need to pay VAT.
>>
>>11227093
Yeah....I think thats what it actually was. So I just pay 19% on figures+ shipping in the end if it's below 150 ...right? If it's over 150 It's suicide I assume.
>>
>>11227099
>So I just pay 19% on figures+ shipping in the end if it's below 150 ...right?
I'm not in Europe so I don't know what % you would be charged, but that sounds right.
19%? Fuck, you guys are over a barrel. In Australia it's only 10% GST, and only larger retailers like Amazon, BBTS and HLJ actually collect it from you at purchase time. If you buy from a smaller retailer and it's under $1000, you're in the clear. But if you're over $1000 you have to pay the 10% GST+ 5% customs duty and a fucken administration fee on top of it. That one time I had to pay for a $1000+ order taught me a lesson...fuck the govt.
>>
>>11226989
Customs simply select packages at random for extra fees cause they know they’ll get away with it and you’ll pay. Probably have to meet quotas or something.
>>
>>11226989
If you read carefully, VAT and customs are 2 different charges.
>Under 22 EUR
No VAT or Customs
>Between 22 EUR and 150 EUR
VAT only
>Over 150 EUR
VAT and Customs

The 28 EUR was VAT only. No customs (import duty).
>>
>>11226989
didnt know under22 being vat free was still a thing in some places.
your paying VAT my friend, not customs. its kinda expected.
unless its under 45 euro worth and labeled as a gift that is.

but yeah thats VAT, your still paying tax, just not the over 150eur customs tax..

also wow only 28? thats low, i usually strike out for more.
>>
>>11226989
Under 150€ you don't need to make the import declaration yourself and you don't need to pay some duties, but you still need to pay VAT and probably a fee for the carrier's hark work managing the paperwork.

>>11227099
>If it's over 150 It's suicide I assume.
It varies from country to country, but yeah, going over that threshold may double the amount to pay (twice in paperwork fees plus the additional duties).

Britbongs and brexitchads stay winning

so I found this video and lmaooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
>150 is absolute therft
literally 50 bucks extra cost from figure+shipping

oh yeah? How much do YOU pay then americhud?
>>

This is why I don't deal with import websites. There's just too many unknowns until you've done it a few times. They always offer explanations that just lead to more questions and the answers they give in any FAQ are like "You may be required to pay more for customs and shit, we dunno lol" as if I'm supposed to know what my looney toon country is doing this month with import policy. Some like I think AMIAMI don't even tell you how much the shipping on an item will be until you have already committed to the order so you have no way to comparison shop.

This is why people stick with BBTS even though they're likely overpaying. There's simply too many unknowns with import sites.

Some sites are better like Gundamit, which just says "free shipping in the US" and so you know what you'll pay. But their prices are only a bit better than BBTS. So I assume in many cases if you just import one figure and ship it with a reasonable delivery time of like 10 days, it's probably going to be close to BBTS price. You might save like 20 bucks on a 100-110 dollar figure.

>>11226996
I wouldn't talk like that. We Americans will have the same problem once the Orange-kun tariffs on Chinese imports go into effect. But then if the prices on toys go to what people think they will I'll likely just quit collecting entirely at that time. Or maybe Orange-kun will back off like he did in Code Geass.
>>
>>11226989
But that's correct.

18760JPY is about €114. Add 19% VAT and the handling €6 fee and you get €27.70 more or less.
>>
How about
>Want to order something from Canada
>Ok time to check out
>Huh the price converted to USD seems off
>Oh they're using PayPal, why is it off
>PayPal charges like 11% extra fee on currency conversion even tho my debit card doesnt have foreign fees
>Site only accepts PayPal
Fuck off.
>>
>>11232674
You can set Paypal to use your card's FX conversion. Look it up.
>>
>>11227064
You dare suggest that tariffs… bad!?
>>
>>11232698
>thing designed to specifically raise prices
>people cheer like the mouth breathers they are
I fucking hate stupid people and their enablers.
>>
>>11229711
>as if I'm supposed to know what my looney toon country is doing this month with import policy
I get your frustration, but, anon, yes, you are. If YOU don't fuggin know, why are you expecting some guys in a different country to know? You are the importer, they are the exporter. The importer is responsible for following the import laws of the country they live in.
>>11229591
NTA but I have literally never had to pay customs fees in my entire life. My largest and most expensive import is the control panel and computer from a Project Diva arcade cabinet, and I literally had zero customs fees despite it coming out to about 300-350 USD (I live in the US)
You would have to import an absurd value amount in one go, or some very specific items, in order to invoke customs fees in the US as an individual. The China/Mexico tariff conversations are likely going to have an effect on this in the coming years, but it remains to be seen what the implementation will actually be.
>>
>>11237313
They're the one trying to sell the good so they should be up on what most major countries' import laws are and should tell you that when you say what country you're in. That's as easy as maintaining a database. I'm the one paying them, not asking them to pay me.
>>
>>11237409
Except the good for them is sold either way. Your shipment getting held up at customs does not affect your purchase on their end.
If I buy ivory and it gets caught in customs, the seller has lost...what, exactly? It's literally my fault. If I blame them for it and never buy again, they've lost...an irate customer who doesn't know their own laws and holds other people accountable for their mistakes?
>>
>>11237448
It prevents larger amounts of people from buying from them, anon. They could have higher overall sales if they were an easy to use store that was a similar deal to ordering domestically with the store covering knowledge of import laws. Instead they have people buying the same figures from BBTS for more money just because it's easier.
