I don't know if a monthly general is possible, but it's a solid thread title that seems important. Therefore it must be of great value. So who does model kits? Share a memory of Little Anon You and a model experience. Find any cool ones lately? Have you always wanted to but never did (glue, my love)? RC is kinda the same thing and fits here.My addition is that I was a totally incompetent modeler with nobody to talk to that cared about them or at least had inclination. I can paint well now and I've done a BMP and a beginner Lancaster I junked when I moved apartments. I figure I can do better as time goes on.Shit's fun.
>>11237917Love me 30 Minute Missions, simple as.
This could be cool if I could do barnacles and sea detritus
>Share a memory of Little Anon You and a model experienceAssembled an F4U model for a high school WWII project. Didn't apply enough cement where the frame meets wing and smudged a little on the cockpit. My old man spray painted it for me. Most of the details on it were the water decals. The experience was so awful, I never tried it again. I suspect the hobby will be dying soon along with the Boomers
>>11237920And trains, and a shitload of classic toys, any rifles you have to do anything other than pin together. Yup it sucks. And I got mad at it for a while too.https://youtu.be/IM_8m90221s?si=PbCP7znLZP7R8Zb2Cool scenes for cool models.
I would love to build some scale model aircraft (especially Yukikaze kits), but I'm a filthy snapshitter.
>>11237920>I suspect the hobby will be dying soon along with the BoomersDo you even Play Well bro?
>>11237922You don't have to be an artist Anon, some things are just fun. And I watch streaming shows about rebuilding tanks and shit while I do it.I also have a shitload of gulf war trading cards so someday I want to model one of them and make a little diorama with the card mounted. That should look nice.
>>11237917i have a few gundam kits and macross kits i've been printing parts for to kitbash.
>>11237923I'm 43 with a 4 year old daughter, I mix stuff from my childhood with modern STEM toys. She's a builder with Legos and generic hot wheel track parts. Of course a bucket of army men.She will likely retain interest in something like this.
>>11237925I kitbashed a Bigfoot monster truck kit (skinny wheel tractor tire version) and a 66 Corvette. It came out ok, I gave it to my young cousin. Idk if I'd do it again but battle damage tanks sound like a party. At least you can burn or explode stuff out in the yard.
>>11237920I wish model planes/tanks/trains had the same ease of building as bandai's gundam kits. Most of those, especially the modern high grades, go together so easily, almost like legos on a sprue. And they're really easy to articulate and pose, and you can kitbash really easily. They're almost action figures instead of models. Why can't they make a model tank or plane that:>comes in colored plastic instead of grey>has working, moving tracks, turning turrets, or spinning propellers and folding wings >comes with decent quality waterslide decals (or high quality stickers)>doesn't require every piece to be glued>still looks good, has a decent scale, and has the durability to have the pose changed regularly
>>11237928I've never seen one or found one online, but God told me they exist.
https://youtu.be/QUE3AgXkN0M?si=l1OFCiQFRvtoddXPHow fuckin cool would a HIMARS model with actual smoke effect be lol.
>>11237926>She will likely retain interest in something like this.Noice!>>11237928>>has working, moving tracksI mean most Gunpla can't even pull that off...
Oh fuck Warhammer and shit too. That's modeling kinda and easy like anon wants, but you gotta paint. I started with a harbor freight sprayer, a compressor, and a tire as a tank. But you get nice control with a tire as you can use a foot or something to pressure it. HobbyQueer or something probably has something nicer for the same price today.

https://youtu.be/KbMR7TOutiAThere are conventions still. I don't know what percentage is military but I bet it's decent.

>>11237936Launing is fine linen, they gave him nice pajamas too.
>>11237921That's pretty neat, reminds me of the one with depth charges modeled photorealistic using cotton, LED's and resinhttps://youtu.be/ZXaaoLc85vs
I am not that good, but I'd love to see some autist kitbash together russian ork inventions. (And mail them to Oryx until he loses his fucking mind)

Being into landscape and diorama already in this thread, coast batteries on one hand hell yes, but on the other not on their own. Could be personal taste. And a level of kit with upgrades in box; say it's a cruiser which historically got a larger gun refit or added torpedo... sleds? (Honestly, what are deck torpedo slide mounted stand thing word salad items called?)
>>11237943Wish I knew, anon
>>11237944it ams dis

>>11237946>cope cagelel
>>11237947Eh, maybe right but that makes me think internal mechanisms and subs.>>11237948It's probably better than IRL ones lol.
Model rockets (military, ICBM) would be fun if you could do mini MIRV strikes on other scale models. I'm sure it would be frowned on to even use contact tannerite explosives but still, private land is a thing.>innawoods hikin>strange glowing arc in the sky>it looks like it sprouted 8 small pointy things>coming... in this direction...>they are...>JESUS FUCK MY EYES! THEY WERE BOMBS! I'M BLIND!
>>11237917I do some model kids but I also 3d print shit and paint. Big 40k nerd. Currently working on a Lionel Heresy Imperial Fist army.
>>11237951What does warhammer have that is basically real right now? Not the fantasy stuff but is there say a tank that clearly screams "I'm a Merkava!" with token differences?
>>11237917I need to finish my Bristol Blenheim.
>>11237953Yes, I know this is clearly a Hawker Hurricane. It is finished, I know it looks like shit, but it is as good as it gets with me.
>>11237918that reminds me I need to get the new armored core kits from 30MM
how about you make new friends and go to the board where this is on topic
I think it's dumb that modelling is considered /toy/ and not /tg/.>Nooooo but it's not gaming!!!!Then we should kick out the mini painters because you don't play with busts (hehe) and Golden Deamon isn't a wargame either but fags keep discussing it.
>>11237953>>11237954Use white Elmer's glue for your canopies. Regular model glue will make them fog up. You can also soak a tooth pic in thinner and then scratch off the excess paint around your glass. Your canopies will look a lot cleaner that way (better to do it with acrylic because it comes off easier)also don't get gloss varnish on it like I did here.
>50+ boxes in the pile of shame
Had to give away all my paint /chemicals when I moved back from overseas and I can't be fucked to buy more. Shit is way too expensive now. It would be like $300 to replace everything I lost
>>11237958>Elmer's glue I used Formula 560 which is the same thing, but I think I did cover it in gloss lacquer. Boomers seen to swear by doing it. I also paint everything by brush, not sure if I should or not. I have the money for an airbrush, just there is no place in the house to use it and the HOA bans usage of airbrushes and spray paints.
>dad dies when I'm 9>he loved models and built a couple with me>didn't get the chance to build more complex sets with him>older sister starts watching his collection of VHS and DVDs about WW2 and Vietnam with me>goes through all the model sets dad left behind and helps me research paints, cammo, tail numbers etc. so we can build period-specific pairs>she moves out over some petty argument with mum>becomes an addict>has a psychotic episode>hospitalised and diagnosed as rapid-cycling bipolar>resistant to treatment>her episodes of mania and depression are so quick that she can't function normally anymore>has to live in a psychiatric facility on permanent suicide-watch>can't watch anything war-related>she likes anime and mecha>visit her a couple of times a week and help her build models because the medication she's on gives her the shakes>sitting down and listening to music with her as we build a 30MM kit>talking about her life and her struggle with suicidal ideation>"Every time I think about checking out, I have to look at my windows and see everything we've made together. I don't want you to have to box these up like we did for dad."
Doing mostly 40k/Gunpla. Working on lots of nuns with guns right now. >>11237952NTA but you'd have to find a Guard player to answer that.
Nice, a scale model thread.I have been getting back into the hobby after a ~15y and then again ~3y hiatus. Can't post pictures right now, but my next project will be an Airfix Ju-87 just to get back into it and to brush up my airbrush skills. Finished a kit I apparently started around 20/21, but it was absolute shit with lots of mistakes I now want to punch old me for. Anyhow, then I'll have a bunch of cannons, a Stug III and a 1/48 Huey I will keep for last because it's an expensive model.
>>11237961>but I think I did cover it in gloss lacquer. Boomers seen to swear by doing itI would only do that if you spray it. It will look shit if you hand paint it on.
>>11237962I didn't come here for feels...Hope she makes it out the other side ok
Recently I got an Italeri Fit Amy in 1/48 scale. Can someone recommend me a good way to get the satin finish of the real deal?
>>11237919>Desu Boot
>>11237948OK I can see supports, but where is the model?
>>11237959>he doesn't have a backlog basement with multiple piles of procrastination containing whatever didn't fit onto the shelves of shame
>>11237962>I don't want you to have to box these up like we did for dad.Now that's a morbid double meaning.
>>11237920It shocks me how many glue kits don't even have any built in plastic features for easily locating parts for gluing. I know they aren't snap kids, but I remember building an old battleship a while back and it seemed like you were just supposed to locate the cannons by eyeballing the tiny manual illustrations.
>>11237931I had a tank tread guy like this waaay back, loved it. Like the guy that crawls around with the cannons on its back.
>>11238002:')
>>11237920I have a F4 I got at a model con this year. yes the hobby is mostly dead with the boomers or hardcore enthusiast. gunpla got a surge of builders in 2020

>>11237928that would require making effort Look at mecha musume, you can make great action figure model kit, plane tank ect are made by lazy peoples who don't want to improve, even for thing that require no articulation such as a plane
>>11238571
>>11237917I'm a total fag for mecha musume.
>>11238765Mecha musune is great but I already have anime girls of various flavors on my desk. I just want an M60A3 and a T80B to have little battles on my desk.
