What’s on the workbench, /toy/?

Sculpts, castings, original plushies, 3D prints, dioramas, mods, kitbashes, and repaint are all welcome!

Post WIPs, finished projects, ideas, techniques, ask for advice, and most of all, have fun!

HELPFUL TIPS:
-Invest in a rotary tool such as a dremel for sanding/sculpting, especially a flexible extension tip.
-Pin vises for drilling holes can be found at hobby stores like Hobby Lobby and are great for making peg holes.
-For soft, flexible parts get Sugru silicone putty and Oyumaru
-Hardware epoxy putties such as Waterweld, KwikWood, and PlasticWeld are similar to milliput, greenstuff, and apoxie, can be cheaper some times, and can be found at local hardware stores such as Lowes, Ace, and Home Depot.
-Bootleg figures make great custom-fodder, especially if the legit figures are pricey.
>Body-chan/kun, Figma Archetype He/She, and Sozai-chan/kun are great base bodies for import-style human characters.
-For 3D models to use for editing, the following sites are good to bookmark:

I finally have some time to model
I'll simplify the concept for my first try and give her a torso joint so I'm not depending on just the spine

Hey guys. Hope this is the right place to ask.

My girlfriend wants to get into the whole models thing. She used clay and plastic flowers to make planters and things like that.

What would you say would be a good starting place for a normie girl? I'd like to get her something for Christmas but I know nothing about it, and honestly can't make out what is what and what to even search for on these sites.
>>
>>11258062
That's just simple clay art. Nothing related to figures or customizing like the stuff here. Just look up stuff related to 'clay modeling' and 'clay sculpting'. Things aside from gift cards to craft stores like various air dry or oven bake clays, sculpting tools, silicone mat, armature wire, etc would all be things I'd assume would be helpful
>>
>>11258068
Thanks man.
She expressed the desire to have like those soldier models that you paint so I'm looking into all options. I think she made the clay things just that she can paint them/ use them as a part of a diorama or something.
>>
>>11258070
No idea what 'soldier models' you're referring to. Like plastic model kits? That's very different from clay sculpting and would entail other things like hobby tool kits, sandpaper, glues, paints, etc. That kind of stuff most local mom and pop hobby stores would carry or larger chains such as Hobby Lobby
>>
>>11258084
Yeah looks like plastic model kits. I'll try to look more into it. Thanks for the help.

These have been on the workbench for a long long time. I’ve gone back and forth a few times but this is my (current) RE customs shelf to fit in with the rest of my 1/12 figures. The verdugo has some added articulation through a ML venom and mcfarlane tyranid, and the rest of the figs are an assortment of kitbashes and parts swapping. Most work was probably the Merchant. Next up is a Wesker I’m thinking with the Doc Ock body, but as it’s not accurate to RE4 I might not. Just playin around.

I've only ever done two customs and I just dug out photos to show somebody so I thought I'd show here. These were just practice though and I know they're not very good, but I was happy that I made them.

I posted the first one a while back. It's the Transformers character Wingthing, who was Soundwave's Action Master partner. Since Wingthing is a little winged bat thing I thought it would be a good fit for the Titan Master bird thing. I painted it with an airbrush, and it has a gun mode I don't have photographed.

I only finished the other one a couple of weeks ago and haven't shown it yet but I got an extra Reaction Soundwave and tried to paint him as G2 Soundwave based on some fanart. But I tried doing it by hand-painting as an experiment instead of using my airbrush. It's the first thing I ever hand-painted so it's unfortunately messy, but the one thing I remember people saying about my Wingthing was that Warhammer painters paint pink under yellow, so I made sure to paint all the yellow areas pink first, which I think worked out better than just going straight for a yellow coat. Sorry it's so messy but for hand painting the first time I didn't think it was too horrible. I still have a lot of that pink mixed up and I have an extra Core Soundwave so I'm going to do another G2 Sounwave, but in Core class form for my next one.

These all look great! Makes me realize how bad I want Jada to get the RE license for some affordable RE figs
>>
>>11258134
Airfix would be my go-to, cheap and cheerful.
>>
>>11259569
Very cool.
>>11260837
The license is really expensive and Capcom is difficult to work with.
>>
>>11261410
Jada has SF and has been working with Capcom just fine for a while now. There's no reason that either of those things would hold them back if they really wanted the RE license. I think the biggest detractor is the size and output a super tiny company like Jada is able to put out. They've got many lines and are already stretched super thin
>>
Where is the guy that was going to do a Mania custom out of a SHF SpiderGwen bootleg?
I wanna see some pics bro please
>>
>>11261438
According to some anon, which could be a lie, capcom is very protective of RE, even more than with any other IP
>>
>>11262216
May or may not be true, but Capcom must be happy with Jada's other stuff. They've got to see the extremely positive consumer reaction to all the Jada SF figures too.

So, kinda need help with some scaling soft goods meant for nendoroids for a custom 1/12th scale action figure idea I had:

So I saw this cute witch hat recently that was scaled to a nendoroid/Obitsu Doll's head proportions. Now, I wanted it so I could put it on top of a 1/12th scale action figure (Snail Shell) I had, but I'm worried it'll end up oversize.

So, my question is: how do I find the dimensions of this hat, and how would I alter it so that it would fit my Snail Shell figure?
(I also intend to partly open up holes in the hat to accommodate the horns on the figure in question.)

Do these come in white? I don't know which size it is I need but I bought these a while ago and the joints for what I'm doing are fine but I need 'em in white. Though depending on the cost it may just be less of a pain to stick with the gray ones. Also since they're a joint I don't think painting them would be wise since it'd just scrape right off.

>>
>>11267649
Yes. Those ball joint sets were stopped being made a long time ago. The only sites that have them left are some Japanese ones that have remaining stock I think
>>
>>11267729
That explains it. Are there any newer alternatives with the same size joints? They don't have to be this exact brand or anything. I just know the size I need is one of the ones from here >>11267458.
>>
>>11267763
8mm to be exact.
>>
>>11267763
No, the ones they are producing regularly now are the Figma-style ones that are flatter in the center and not as round as those Revoltech-style ones. What are you doing with them? Maybe there's an alternate method or other parts you could use?

Yeah, I feel your pain. I do NOT understand how readily-available joints in ALL possible colors aren't a "thing" nowadays. I mean... what the hell?
Was glad to get bright orange Revoltech joints awhile back, to mash up GI Joe alien, Micronauts Lobros, some Mutated Shredder, Paw Patrol bootleg Lego (eyes), small red rubber o-rings, and fiber optics into... this:
>>
>>11267858
What a fun lil guy. I like it! Yeah joints of various colors, even just primary/black/white and skin tones, not being available seems crazy to me.

>>11267858
could you tell us more about your process? im curious, did you just come across a damaged lobros before making this or did you have an extra one lying around?

I've been working on making a decrepit knight inspired from Dark Souls with a melted look. I ended up sculpting two heads with slightly differing proportions. Thoughts? I was wondering which one looks better based on the overall helmet shape.

I noticed people really went out of their way to replace the "brain" in his mouth, and his tongue(s). I always thought he looked really gay like that. Happened upon a cheap junker body amongst Micro bros over on Facebook. Was DISGUSTED with the shittiness of the Mutant Shredders I'd just bought. I'd also seen the bright orange revoltech joints and my brain start doing shit like this that it ALWAYS does:

The piss-poor hip articulation of the old GN-U Dou Sasuraiger due to the static skirt piece that covers the sides and back always annoyed the fuck out of me.
Turns out that if you cut off the supports inside the thigh armor that normally secure it to the inner frame you can make it slide down along the frame to allow a much greater range of motion.
There's still enough friction between the parts to keep it in place so you can just slide it back up with no problem depending on the pose.

Right one is a promo shot that shows pretty much the max original range.
>>
>>11268556
Damn, though thanks anyway.
>>
>>11268394
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback! I’m not sure what scale it is but it’s too small for the reach figures, I’m pretty sure it’s the McFarlane Reach warthog. I’m bummed because I got this one in a lot off eBay a year ago for pretty cheap but when I looked recently for one to make for myself they are all $50+ ;-;
>>
>>11268468
The second looks more knightly compared to the first. Something about the exaggerated jaw of the upper photo makes me think "monster" more than a Souls knight.
>>
>>11268788
Yeah, the second head was definitely more inspired from traditional knight helmets like the Elite Knight or the Firelink Armor whereas for the first one, I tried to go for a weirder jaw shape inspired from the helm of the old Fluted Armor from Demon's Souls. Thanks a lot anon, this was exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for.

I want help figuring out a hoodie for a Nintendo Luigi figure, my main problem is his proportions are difficult, his head is huge, as are his hands, but the rest of him could be fit into a 1/12 soft goods jacket, or maybe a 4" inch scale soft goods jacket.

How do I find this product? I want some cute pictures of him bundled up in winter.
