Thinking about picking up the Beast Kingdom Davy Jones. Can anyone here weigh in on it? This company seems to have a mixed to negative reputation from what I remember of its occasional mentions here.
>>11259798I think the only Beast Kingdom thing I have is a Rocket Raccoon they did from Guardians 1. And that thing broke apart super easy... I have to assume they've improved since then, but I can't say.
>>11259798I was tempted for this myself but held back since I really wasn't sure of their quality. I just ended up buying the Disney Store 6-inch figure and extensively modded the headsculpt to go with my SHF Jack Sparrow.
>>11259798Crap. Total crap.
>>11259926I would certainly hope so. I've been looking at some of their DC stuff and the figures just look off to me, but this Jones looks incredible, so I'm willing to forgive their past mistakes if they left them there. Their Disney line does seem to be an improvement on the comic book figures at a glance, but I'm definitely wary.>>11259935If they'd just make a SHF Jones I wouldn't have to think about it. As it stands, this is probably the best looking Jones figure out there in my opinion, since the Hot Toys costs as much as a used car now.>>11259963Damn. What was your experience with them, anon? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bMqNrmrldMThis review is showing me about what I expect from the figure. If the price point were better I'd take the plunge at this point but I've got to be protective of my dosh here.
>>11260093I handled some that were being sold second hand at a record store that also sells collectibles (mostly soulless Pops but they sold everything from pinbacks and stickers to actual comic books and action figures). I didn't start posing them or doing anything major but I did test the joints and they all felt fine, I just decided they were overpriced, for used, second hand toys, especially since this store didn't need to mark up to take into account fees eaten by say eBay.But I think you probably need to go elsewhere to get more/better specific advise.
>>11259798The figure in hand does look very nice, but its articulation just doesn't feel very good, and parts of it are overly delicate. Mine came with a compass that had a broken hinge right out of the box, but their support offered no help in a replacement part or partial refund or anything.
>>11260169I appreciate the input, the cost is definitely my biggest issue with it. I'm not sure where else to go for more in-hand experience with it, and reviews or even pictures in collections are a bit hard to come by. I did find the /toy/ archives but no one reported having it, just one anon saying he was waiting for it. >>11260196That's inexcusable for what they're asking. He shouldn't be coming with Jack's compass to begin with; why not the key to the chest he wears around his neck? Problem is this character really doesn't have a lot of good figures. Even the Neca is so old it's being sold for even more than this one in some places.
>>11260210>Even the Neca is so old it's being sold for even more than this one in some places.I see the 12-inch one going for about half of what the Beast Kingdom one is, but I don't know what to expect from an 18-year-old Neca figure.
>>11260805I have the 7-inch release and it's basically a brick with no leg articulation. It only has articulation in the neck, shoulders, right wrist and the crab claw but that's it.
>>11260908That's generally how I remember things back then. I'm probably breaking the bank for the BK DAH release. I'm just wary of that company because they once released a terrible Batman figure that had its plastic armor stuck on with double-sided tape, which is the most dreadful bootleg shit I've heard of in a figure, dreadful bootlegs included. But they seem to be really hit or miss and their Jones really seems like a hit.
>>11260920It looks good in that promo shot but let's be honest here, how often have promo shots sucked. I know it's not an option for many people, but I often wait to see something in stores if it's that much money or if there is no Money Back Guarantee. This >>11260196 is not helping as far as buying directly from them. And yeah, it also sucks when you can't find reviews or pictures of people who have the item in hand, that's the second thing I look for if I can't find it in person for myself to look at, for anything I am iffy about. The last NECA I bought, that's how I made my choice - but that was one of their cheap, under $20 no articulation figures, and I ended up returning the retail to Target for store credit because I scored it in an eBay auction for less than 1/3 of the MSRP. I don't regret owning it. But wish at least the head moved or the arms moved or something.
>>11260990There's a good review on YT >>11260093 but the price is still giving me second thoughts consistently. If they'd just put it on sale I'd probably cave in. It seems like one of their best figures for sure, though the more I dig into their other ones, the more red flags I'm finding (they claim their Mojo Jojo figure has his brain under the removable helmet, but there's nothing there).
>>11259798The figure looks better than the much more expensive statue of him that they're also selling. Imagine buying statueshit.
Shouldn't the crab claw be a little bigger?
>>11263940It looks bigger on the final sculpt versus the promo shot I used for the OP. I still haven't pulled the trigger, I'm too miserly to be a toy collector, but I really do like this piece despite its few shortcomings. I was hoping it would suddenly go on sale like some other Beast Kingdom figures on the site I buy from.
