Greetings to the Warhammer 40k General! (and other things GW)>Archive of the God Emperor:https://archive.palanq.win/toy/search/subject/Warhammer>Henry Cavill is developing a Warhammer 40k TV series and movies for Amazon! For the Emperor!https://deadline.com/2024/12/henry-cavill-warhammer-40000-tv-series-amazon-1236199071/Previously:>>11241703
I'm new to this hobby and waiting for my order to arrive!Should I get official paint for the next models, or is there something else you'd recommend? I don’t want to mess up the painting. Also, do these models require glue? I was told they don’t need it.By the way, what lore books are good to start with?
WHY ARE JOY TOY SO EXPENSIVE????
>>11264046They aren't. $18 is a good price for a ripper.
do those old revoltech minis scale well with the joytoy 40k figures? i'm trying to build up a 1:18 collection for my little one. doesn't have to be accurate scaling (i know space marines are supposed to be a lot bigger) but he seems happy to mix some of the marvel universe 1:18ths with it so wondering what else would go well with it (that's recognizeable, acid rain doesnt do it for him).
>>11264038>Henry Cavill is developing a Warhammer 40k TV series and movies for Amazon! For the Emperor! Why is this news now? Wasn't that known a year ago already or did I fall into a wormhole?
>>11264087A year ago, they were engaged in discussions regarding a story, and the production of shows or movies was contingent upon reaching an agreement on the narratives and their canonical representation. Now, we have received confirmation that they will commence work on the show and movie, as they have reached an agreement and signed the contract to proceed. Previously, there was uncertainty about whether the project would materialize, but it is now assured to happen.
>>11264041I suggest going over to /tg/ they can help you much more.
>>11264041Start with Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader and continue in release order.
>>11264075>little oneHow little are we talking? Because in my experience with nephews and cousins, they won't give a shit about any of the things that make "adult" toys more expensive, let alone scale-autism, and you might as well get whatever cheap shit from the toy store that they can bash together however they want.
>>11264046Because for the most part, they believe in doing the job right and making a toy actually good, rather than cutting features and paint apps to meet a budget (like McFarlane). McFarlane's is missing many paint apps, it has no shading, no washes, no drybrushing, it isn't even painted all over with red like JoyToy's, most of it is bare red plastic. It's not entirely McFarlane's fault, this is just how the US toy market operates. He needs to meet a certain price point, and he can't be selling niche $60 action figures at Target. But I digress, this is where your JoyToy money goes, into making sure shit is finished appropriately.
>>11264291>>11264046Can you even imagine McFarlane putting out a figure like this? Imagine how many paint apps he'd have to cut. Plus I didn't even mention that JoyToy will cut new molds at the drop of a hat (which is stupid expensive) just to be mini-accurate or create a better parts catalog. Example: the recent Smurf Beakies, they could have reused the exact same bodies and just given them new heads. Nobody would have complained, it makes perfect sense. But no, they molded unique legs for each, with different detailing.I'm sick of buying toys that cut every corner to give you an unsatisfying product at a still-too-high price. I'd rather pay more for something that feels like the creator gave a fuck.
>Building some Immortals>Two pieces won't glue together no matter what glue I use>Even solvent glue that literally melts the plastic together isn't doing shit>Try Superglue>Also doesn't work>Clean and wash the contact areas>Try again with everything>Still doesn't workI've never seen this in 20+ years of gluing GW shit together. I'm kind of at a loss.
Stop.
>>11264303just fyi this is pretty much for discussion of the action figures, we rarely if ever discuss working on minis here. that's more /tg/ talk
>>11264304Hammer time!
>>11264305Fuck I thought I was in /tg/My bad
>>11264304"I gotta tell ya, this is pretty terrific."
>>11264303I use the Krazy Glue, the brush-on All Purpose stuff and it works 100% of the time.
>>11264046I only buy them from Aliexpress with good sales and coupons. Multiple opportunities each year. They are only expensive if you are buying them MSRP with no discounts.
What are you lads getting for Christmas?
Got the second wave gaunts in! Was eager to compare the colors to the first wave as the promo pics made the second wave look way darker. There is a very slight difference between the two waves; the second wave gaunts are just a touch darker, but they still fit in well with the first wave!
>>11264407What stands out the most are the more pronounced edge highlights on the second wave figures. One disappointment; none of the second wave guants include the smaller, not-stuck-out tongue, they only include the stuck-out tongue. While the stuck out tongue is great, I don't want all of 'em to have that look. I do have plenty from the first wave gaunts, though.
>>11264291>>11264296For me McFarlane figures are more for customs. Also they're sterdy enought that they can survive heavy play by smaller kids. My nephews like 2 Space Marines I bought them 2 years ago.
>>11264410Overall very happy with them! My Tyranid swarm is a good size now, so I'll be looking forward to more Tyranid forms!
>>11264303Necrons can be VERY finicky, which is why I have a box of tomb blades sitting forever in my pile of shame lmao. Try cleaning the surface with some scrapes of the blade, or a little sanding down, to expose clean, pure plastic. Make sure your super glue is pure, and not the semi-dried gloop that sometimes is stuck in the nozzle, and gently put the pieces together (plastic cement would be worse in this case, because that wants you to hold the pieces together in place for a bit, which is especially difficult if your trying to connect a tiny hand to a tiny little wrist).>>11264046Depends on what your talking about, because some stuff is actually extremely cheap for what you get. Example; the basic intercessors, or the original four pack runs, as they're all great for $25 or less a piece.Yeah, something like the BA praetor is up there at like $70, but it is an entirely new AND unique sculpt, all painted well, as well.>>11264041Honestly dude, go with the brand name paints (citadel), because they worked SOOO much better than any other, as a newbie. Like, it was almost day and night when I finally tried them in my first year of learning to paint. After that, though, stay AWAY from the citadel brand lol!Brushes, nippers, blades, handles, etc, just go generic, or fucking improvised! There is no reason to pay $30+ for a plastic handle, when some sticky puddy and an old pill bottle does the trick. I use cheap ass $5 brushes from Walmart, because it's cheaper to cycle through those things like single use disposables, than pay $8+ for a single brush that might just die after two uses anyways.
>>11264447also, it's a good idea to buy dropper bottles and transfer your citadel paints into them. The Citadel pot design sucks and will create huge wasted hunks of dried paint around the lid. Dropper bottles also mean that paint mixing ratios becomes very easy, you can just say "2 drops to 1 drop ratio" instead of trying to eyeball some paint out of the pot.
>>11264304>>11264306Gee brother Haroldus, how come the Chapter Master lets you have two hammers?
Guilliman next to the knight
As a casual I'm just happy that there are options for those who want to collect non-mini 40k figures. I personally love the McFarlane stuff since most of my collection is 6-7 inch but all the power to the JoyToy collectors too even if it's not for scaling reasons. Question to the JoyToy collectors. How many of the 20 legions are represented in plastic form?
>>1126477613 legions plus a couple chapters, but representation is heavily in the imperium's favorthe only word bearer figure is an old terminator, for instancegot some world eaters and thousand sons recently, plus a good selection of SoH, but everything else is ImperiumIf you're just talking about 30k though, its the ultramarines, imperial fists, space wolves, blood angels, sons of horus, and thousand sons so far, plus a couple custodes. 30k World Eaters Soon™ so the rumor says, but we're also (probably) getting daemon Angron so it could go either 30k or 40k
>>11264804Interesting. I have a split collection between mostly McFarlane and a few copies of the Bandai releases (They're basically the exact same scale) and they're not too far behind at 11 legions combined. 12 if we count the generic black and gold Chaos Marine. Hopefully both McFarlane and JoyToy last long enough to at least give us a full roster of the main 20 at least. Personally hoping for an Emperor's Children.
I hope when 40k becomes mainstream thanks to Amazon show, I hope we get a good priced action figure collection and Mega Construx 40k sets
Okay, I know last thread I said I want a carnifex to square off with the knight, but I had a thought!Ork planes! I want a squad of 1:18 scale Ork planes!
>>11264894start small anon, we dont even have boyz yet.
>>11264404I wanted to get some joytoys but they don't have the ones I want for sale here yet so I just got some gunpla to finish off two collections.
>>11264890>Amazon showIt's gonna be so pozzed.
>>11264978If they would have more than 2 braincells they would just make a show about the Celestial Lions and make the evil inquisitor also black. Than you have a good story and representation without making your show shit for it.
Think my 3 blood ravens may be in trouble now
>>11264894>>11264918Killa kans would translate pretty well
>>11265350holy fuck just opened Horus, what a magnificent beast.
How do you remove some of these joytoy heads? I can't get my fat fingers int there to rip them out.
>>11265720Soften them up in hot water then prise them out.
>>11265720Put them in your mouth and suck on them until they release
>>11265897Will try later today
>>11265898Dad?
Please mr. joytoy make it happen I beg of you
>>11265898>>11265897worked, thanks guys
>>11266059purple heathen eater
>>11266059Snakegrim would be hell to stand up right, so I pray we get (externally) uncorrupted EC
>>11266059This is the only possible route Joy can take. They only make figures based on official mini releases.
>>11266322And these.
>>11266322>>11266323
Feels good knowing your favourite 40k unit is actually getting a toy. Who would have though they’d make a imperial knight
>>11266322
>>11266322.
>>11266443Oh, this retard again.>inb4 you have to slightly mod the chest pieces to make them fit primaris so the sprue totally doesn't exist
>>11266569Your the retard that thinks "no mini, no figure", when these two (plus a few more chapters specific figures) have no official mini, and, as you pointed out yourself, they require some KITBASHING! That means that "no mini, no model" is absolutely NOT an absolute, and joytoy CAN make some special figures. to what extent that ability is, nobody but joytoy knows, but again, that's the point! YOU don't fucking know as much as you think you do!
>>11266585>Your the retard that thinks "no mini, no figure"I'm a different anon, but insert obligatory pointing out of your/you're error.>no official miniBut they do, right there on the upgrade sprue, very different to not having a mini.>plus a few more chapters specific figuresWhich ones? Only one I know that actually isn't an official part is that IF shield.
>>11266586IF shield is nowhere to be found, until recently, on the Horus Heresy command sprue upgrade, I believe."Official mini" would be anything on their official website, promoting their products on sale, such as the built/painted models on those very same models page.Kitbashing with official parts does NOT equate to an "official model", otherwise my daemon prince made out of spare parts from the old kit, plus Tyranid bits, would qualify as an "official model".As for other chapter specific models, there's the countless UM sergeants/lieutenants/heroes, with varying back halos, loinclothes, swords, helmets, etc. none of those have an "official model" (as defined above). The wolf pack squad,.or whatever it was called, which did the same as the BAs did and use firstborn parts on primaris bodies. There's the first born heads included in Chinaland only. And I think there was one or two more, but I can't remember them off the top of my head.
>>11266645>make own retarded definition>see, nothing fits my definition, therefore I am rightThere really is no point in talking to you.
>>11266647So what would you define as "official models"?More like I destroyed your retarded assertion so badly, you know you can't sling your usual bullshit my way, so you need to pretend to "walk away" lmaoBye, loser!
So, do any of you have actual toys?
>>11266704Okay, I don't care, you're still wrong. Kill yourself.
>>11266747Dreadnought bros!
>>11266747Got horus 2 days ago and a chaos termite. Ordered horus dread and sanguinius also a horus legion praetor. Have a blood angel dread on preorder and have 3 blood angel grunts and a termie chilling.
>>11266747I do but I just get bullied and raped when I post them so what's the point
>>11264046Even as a non 40k fan i think the figures are a great value. You're getting good articulation that seems to get updated, lots of original sculpts, lots of accessories, and a decent amount of paint on most figures. The QC issues, at least with the +-20 I bought, are almost non-existent thankfully. The downside is the scale but I found other cool 1:18 (Hiya Dredd, Aliens, Predator etc) on Ali Express for the same price and cheaper (free shipping as well).
I cannot believe the Imperial Knights were released before any of the cool Traitor Legions.Who even asked for the Thousand Sons.
>>11266322>GRIFFITH!
>>11266747Behold! My dudes so far. Also, recently bagged Arch-Erelim with akimbo Volkites, hopefully no QA issues with him.I have such a huge wishlist. I really need to get golden Custodes Praetor with Vexilla, and then give banner to my Solar Watch dude and give sword and shield to previously mentioned Vexilus Praetor.
>>11267172Man, seeing this makes the scale creep seem less egregious somehow. Like, I'd rather they hadn't done it but in most photos it seems like they're just naturally different heights rather than being completely different scales. Also man, I need a beakie for my boys in blue. Though that said, tempted to break my ridiculous selfimposed "Ultras only" rule and get some of the Templars they did as well.
>>11267198I just couldn't pass on that insane amount of accessories. Dude got whole fucking arsenal. I thought I would wait for until White Scar or Raven Guard MKVIs, but they forced my hand.I like that they included all heads from upgrade sprue.
>>11267198>scale creepSome chinese dudes already working on it. Kinda funny how kitbashing/printing your own parts and whatever customization seemingly took off even with JTs. Gotta love that tabletop community cross-pollination.
Can someone buy me the horus helmet and I pay you back? My bank will not let me buy from Chyna
Kek why is his chin powdered?
>>11267412kek what the shit. Is this joytoy? Looks like a mcfarlane.
>>11267568>>11267412its mcfarlane titus
guess no custodes today eitherdamn, so much for custodes december I guess, unless they're gonna drop Valdor and the telemon on christmas
>>11267347Just get a paypal account, take money from your bank or credit card, and buy it that way.
>>11267834It wouldn't let me do it. Said bank declined. I'm just going to email and see if I can do a friend's and family or just have them shoot me a invoice.
>>11267847You know you can call your bank directly and tell them to fuck off right? I have had payments stopped before until I told them to authorize and stop getting in the way.
Do these guys exist in figure form?
>>11268074Not those guys specifically from the show(might be being worked on), but they've made a ton of Bladeguard veteran figures, which is what they are.
>>11267728Kek that loincloth goddamn Todd you cheap bastard
>>11268286Jesus, it looks like a paper towel being dispensed from his crotch (which would explain his decidedly nonplussed expression).
>>11268286McFarlane can actually still make decent toys sometimes, but this one is just embarrassing. Shouldn't have seen the light of day.
>>11268074>>11268186well, two of them are Titus and Chairon, if I'm not mistaken, and they're getting a figure; releasing this month as a matter of fact. But their armor won't look exactly the same as in that episode.
>>11268495The other guy is Bladeguard Sergeant Metaurus. The guy who oversaw the induction of Titus into the Ultramarines.
>>11268286Honestly, it's the loincloth that puts me off. Like if this were the only Titus on the market, I'd actually think twice just because it looks like he's got toilet paper stuck to his belt.
>>11267847what shitty fucking bank do you patronise?
just want to pop in and say cheers to the guy who recommended (with a direct link to aliexpress) i buy this. i don't warhammer at all but he is one of the best figures in my collection still. i don't think i paid more than $40 or $50 total.
>>11268599They sure don't weather them like they used to
>>11266747
>>11268685 (samefagging)Also
>>11268689Why do the first Mcfarlene toys look so much better than the current ones?
>>11268553>it's the loincloth that puts me offAnon, I...
>>11268689>Siege of VraksIncalculably based.I wish the McFarlane Sister wasn't so farcically large, she's a great figure but she scales with absolutely nothing.
Not been buying a whole lotta joytoy due to me getting into gunpla, but I did preorder that Imperial Knight. Anyway. Magnus came in at the same time as this other figure did. He's got a big presence for sure, I ended up liking him a lot more than Russ.
>>11269044This guy also arrived too. The paint application of the red is really something to see. I also think it's got better stability and articulation than the other contemptors that came before. Definitely recommend him, even though he's a big boy.
>>11269044She actually have nips?
>>11268671That's a good thing. The short-lived Imperial Fists weathering experiment was a failure, shit looked so bad. It was the laziest sponge weathering and there was way too much of it. I'd much rather do it myself, where I can take time and put it in places where it makes sense instead of just slapping it everywhere.
Picked up the Horus Praetor with axe, man I love his look. Didn't think I'd like the topknot head as much as the beakie, but it's grown on me.
>>11269044>I ended up liking him a lot more than Russ.Says any 40k fan with taste.
>>11269059Nope. Peaks yes but no colored-in nips.
Finally started work on the printable 1/18 Lelith sculpt I've been thinking about. I've actually never sculpted a humanoid realistic face from scratch before so I'm probably jumping in at the deep end but hey, first time for everything. Multires modifier is a godsend. Obviously it's very WIP but I'm pleased so far, at least until I come back to it and go "What the FUCK was I thinking!??".
>>11269239Waste of money then
>>11269206Beakie looks giga silly when it's so ornamented. It was always tacticool/utilitarian adjacent. It just doesn't work. Imperial Fist beakie Praetor is even worse.
>>11269511I've got to agree there. Sticking the beaky helmet on something like this feels so weird to me. Like the person who designed it didn't really "get" the aesthetic. This one i also particularly don't like because it has too much of an upturned banana shape to the beak.
Gimme them juicy leaks /toy/. Was that Angron prototype really from Joytoy? Why haven't we got an announcement in almost two weeks from a company that usually releases numerous figures a week?
>>11269524>Why haven't we got an announcement in almost two weeks from a company that usually releases numerous figures a week?FUCK YOU, HAVE SOME CUSTODES DREADS
>>11269593>>11269594Would be nice to see a telemon, but that's all for today I think.
>>11269593I hate being poor.
>>11269635https://youtu.be/afkN9H9aLow
>>11269635these ones are actually cheaper than other contemptors, only like 100 bucks compared to the 130-150 of the older ones
i remember years ago, how warhammer 40k action figures were a huge thing everyone was looking forward to? there were even lots of custom figures sold everywhere. i remember
>>11269639Is that like in leaf dollars? Cuz contemptors have been like $80-90 in BK coupons.
I'm sad that there'll never be a Stealth Suit team or Ghostkeel.
They've re-issued Commander Shadowsun despite the tau apparently not selling well, does that mean we can hope for more Tau in the future?
>>11269831Yes
>>11269831MaybeRestocking an old figure that has more demand than supply is one thing, and a hell of a lot cheaper than going through the effort of designing and making new figures
I'm sad Tau did not sell. I got them all and they're great. But we'll probably have a long wait until we see more aliens other than Tyranids. I just wish they would do basic Ork Boyz with a fairly simple paint job to keep costs down so people could army build.
>>11269524Imperial Knight was probably a big one.
>despite the tau apparently not selling well>I'm sad Tau did not sellReminder that this has never actually been proven and is just the assertion of a schizo who claims to have chink connections but then posted incorrect "leaks"
>>11270384You don't have to have leaks, the writing was on the wall. The Fire Warriors got brutally clearanced, people were getting the $110 set for less than $50. They only went back up in price after they'd been sold out for a while and general 40K hype starting ramping up.
I think someone once posted pics or a video of a JT venerable dreadnought being disassembled, like the sarcophagus and stuff could come off and be swapped onto other dreads. Can one of you post it if you still have it?
>>11270522https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTWFLlogJbcNot sure if it's the same video, but here vid of taking out sarcophagus and body. He also has other vids with other Venerables where he does the same (taking sarcophagus out).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz-F2Wwz8DYhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5611AeneJQ(doesn't take sarcophagus out, just opens the hatch and tears out the head)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9FE03eA__k
>>11270548Thanks!
>>11270384Chink tiktok, douyin I think it's called, displays the amount of units sold on streams, and the tau were lower than anything else.
>>11268599Glad u enjoyed it, fren! surprised you haven't gotten more, cuz space Marines make great soldiers regardless.>>11270384What? Nothing was "proven" either way, besides the lack of Tau since then. They didn't even make the incredibly easy breachers, who would just need a different helmet, backpack, and gun.If we look at other xenos, necrons got one wave (2 figures) of repaints, so they probably did slightly better than Tau. Tyranids got an almost immediate repaint/reissue for the warrior, plus a second wave of termagants (with new guns/forearms) AND some hormagants (with new shins and hooves, tails, back carapace, three heads, and forearms), so they're probably doing great.Unlike Orks, who got one wave of 6, plus a bigger figure in the rider. No repaints, no reissues, plenty available to this day, so they clearly did poorly. Why do people make so many assertions that are not only baseless, but demonstrably untrue?
>>11265350you have blood raven figs? are they custom?
khorne is so based
>>11270722I can't wait for the Khorne berserkers and I hope we end up getting more from Khorne along with Angron. I would love to see some bloodletters and chaos terminators but I know we are more likely to get some dumb shit like Eightbound. At least getting chaos cultists, or the special snowflake cultists "Jakhals" is now fairly likely.
>>11270721I know I've got the one custom.
>>11270731love that, so sick
>>11269593Is that all for JT's releases this month? Not that I'm complaining, they look fabulous, but this image posted a while ago has a bit more missing spaces to fill for December. The month's almost at an end. Am I missing something?
>>11269593>>11269594So all that's left in the dreadnought department is telemon, deredeo and variants of the ones we currently have or will soon have upon their release.
>>11270775There's also the two dreads, so 6-7 empty slots (not sure if that center "joytoy" slot is supposed to be a figure). The basic shooty custodes are just new arms and head for guardians, right? I don't mess with resin, so I never got forge world custodes, but if they're just an upgrade sprue, then there's a lot of parts reusage in them, right? That would just leave 3 more slots (discounting the "joytoy" box), so HQs?They could also spring sisters of silence, too.
>>112707759 free slots, less the 2 dreadnoughts makes 7.Perhaps:Constantin ValdorTrajan ValorisMaybe a shield captainSay 3 sisters of silence, split between vigilator, prosecutor and witchseekerA jetbike would be sick
>>11270932>3 sisters of silenceSTOP GIVING ME FALSE HOPE
Are Phobos Marines donezo? I want some lighter armored Blood Angels with big freakin' knoifes.
>>11270944As a fellow Phobos fan, it seems like they are. There was the first wave of infiltrator and incursor 4 packs, then later the reiver 3 pack, and after that?...Though I believe I heard that they may make the SM2 operations characters (fire team talasa), so if your not a fan of the videogame proportions, then you've been monkey pawed. Hopefully they don't just do their basic armors, and give them some cool combinations of bling, because I want an eliminator with the shoulder clothes and hood.
>>11269778If they released the stealth suit and Commander Farsight just to have the big named character out of the way I would be content even if that was all the Tau they ever released. Broadsides, Ghostkeels, and even Kroot would be nice but I just want a "baseline" Tau force.
Does anyone have these guys yet? So how are they?
>>11270775they'll have to go out with some sort of bang, right? With all this buildup of custodes i'd say Valdor (and that'd be awesome since his mini is great)and if i follow my heart i'd say Deamon Angron
