What was toy collecting like for you back in the days before true screen accuracy and super-posability? I'm also curious about how you felt about the price of toys vs your own income and such of the time

I can't comment exactly, as I'm only 28 and thus that era was before my time, but speaking as someone who generally collects toys because they're fun or cool looking, it's strangely liberating. I collect a lot of older Transformers, notably Beast Wars and RID2001 stuff, and they're really nice toys. Some are pretty expensive (Sky-Byte was a bit pricey and had to be imported from the US) but a lot of them go for surprisingly cheap, and they still hold up today.

Idk, i was a kid so i was pretty happy if i got a toy. I remember c.o.p.s being outside of my parents spending limit, i think the air chopper was like $28.99. I remember being disgusted with tmnt polio shredder vividly.

Yeah, there were very few toys I was really upset didn't look like they were supposed to and the original Shredder was one of them. He's just so much wrong all at once. Weird coloring, weird stance, weird shirtlessness, weird eyebrows on the helmet, etc.

I also didn't get why Super GoBots CyKill had the wheels on the back.

Cops N Crooks looked so ahead of their time. Also did you ever suffer never getting a proper Shredder? Closest thing I have in relation is being stuck with 7poa TMNT's til the Classics came out, then I hated those anyway until they got SHF's

Majority of the time no one really cared about it being all that accurate to the cartoon version unless it was something just wildly different like Giant gray Galvatron or weird shirtless Shredder. Majority of figures were like 85% matching up with the cartoons and that was good enough.

I liked toys when they had more detail and rendering than the media. It's bizarre to me how devoted modern toys are to replicating fairly simple cartoons. To me, NECA is doing the more appealing thing by making Gargoyles like all the 90's promo art and not 1:1 to the show, which looked good but wouldn't be as cool.

They eventually did a Super Shredder when the movie came out so that was a little better.

Couldn't get everything, but stuff wasn't as expensive as now, I guess. Or maybe it was because my family was better off.

Now just look at your pic. True screen accuracy and super-posability my ass, action figures looked COOL. Articulations somehow didn't look as weird as now, or maybe it's just me.

And now I bite my tongue, most of the other figures were fine, but Shredder was damn weird.
Still mad about him probably getting stolen though.
