This is 20 years of action figure engineering progress. How much more can these toys be expected in improve in the coming years?
My morning shits are an improvment over whatever shf shits out
>>11276157Holy shit is that cloud?
Things can be improved, but for the most part it's just a matter of implementing existing tech instead of total breakthroughs. even import collector's figures get cranked out and subject to budget so they aren't made with 100% perfection in any era. Future improvements will largley feel more like lateral movements than 1:1 improvements with some exceptions. The leaps we got from 96-2006 are much bigger than any decade since. Major leaps are there but it's nowhere near as significant, biggest ones being tampo prints improving, CAD producing crisper sculpts, and cloth improving in smaller scales. >in b4 someone calls me subjectanon or something for posting 90's Mcfarlane
>>11276157>comparing irwin to bandaino sir, heres you real comparison figure
>>11276157Big difference is one of those is 60-70 dollars and the other was like 8 dollars.Figuarts are retardedly overpriced. No reason a 4 inch figure should cost more than an 18 inch Cell statue.
>>11276157Is this ironic? The one on the left obviously looks better.
>>11276188I think SHFs have slightly less cum in them than your morning shits.
>>11276157I agree with >>11276325 I don't think the improvements we're going to see in the next 20 years are going to be as drastic as this. How much more articulated can we get than say a Revoltech? How many more effects/accessories can we get per figure without getting completely fucked by the already high prices? There's still room for improvement on QC throughout the industry, but the only thing I can really see making a huge overall impact on aesthetics is perfecting seamless so that it retains the poseability of figures with exposed joints while also never having to worry about splitting/tears.>>11276418>gently puts hand on shoulderAnon...the Super Battle Collection is from 30 years ago.
>>11276157Took them 20 year to figure out how to add more joints?
>>11276188Fpbp
>>11276157probably better to compare the Jakks Gohan to Bandais Dragon Stars kids line instead of the SHF.Double pinless joint on even kids toys and realistic face printing is becoming more standard. Even for cartoon figures, face printing is starting to be the way to go. I think faceplates and switchable hair will start to become standard in western retail figures. Action figures are pretty much hitting there limit in articulation. They add anymore and they'd be locked in collectibles only and out of reach for younger kids which is actually the larger market.
>>11276723>I think faceplates and switchable hair will start to become standard in western retail figures.Nah, alternate heads and hands were pretty standard for Marvel Legends a few years ago, but they're slowly fazing out extras because they realised they can charge the same price or higher while giving you less (even SHF are doing that now) or they want to make it so you have to buy a second figure if you want a different expression, which is what McFarlane is doing. Innovation is not the name of the game, gouging the customer is. They only innovate when it means they can charge more, or get you to buy something you already own. "You already have a classic Spider-man? Well this one is pinless! That'll be 45 bucks."
>>11276157SHF faces still look like shit. You can't even see the noses.
>>11276650more like it took 15 years for Japanese companies to realize articulated figures for collectors was viable beyond a few outliers, and then another few years to bring that articulation(or a close level to it) to lower budget figures for kids. See>>11276723Articulation obviously existed before, but there has been an increasing effort to make it feel more natural in the last two decades.
>>11276616its a more fair comparison then whatever the fuck op was trying to say
I see good progress but action figures still miss so much shit that should be solve out years ago. Bad ab crunch/torso movement, not using balljoints for head and neck articulation in most toy lines, terrible looking knees with range not achiving 120 degrees bend, shoulder articulation not allowing to cross arms, weak feet articulation. Is it really that hard or more expensive to make better articulation for action figures? I have no idea.
>>11276157The one on the left is a display piece from japan, right was a toy from americaThe hybrid figure is a more fair comparison, the jakks figures were shit for their time. I grew up with them
>>11276557The one on the left IS the new one, retard.
>>11276616>How much more articulated can we get than say a Revoltech? How many more effects/accessories can we get per figure without getting completely fucked by the already high prices?Honestly, the future is China. A lot of these "unlicensed figures" and original figures are very fairly priced, come with a lot of stuff, well-engineered and have generally good QC. Look at Snail Shell for instance. There are some fragility issues for sure but the articulation is on par with the best imports. Movable eyes are standard across the entire line so that opens up tons of posing options and meaningful display potential. Then they also come with a ton of stuff. But to answer the question seriously, it's more about applying good paint jobs, engineering joints properly and giving people the accessories they need to have fun. I think that's where a lot of lines have serious room for improvement. Some of these SHF coming out recently fucking suck engineering wise, look plasticky as fuck and don't come with enough.
>>11279727Tbf I wouldn't be able to tell eithet with how fucking shit shf is these days kek

Toy companies just need some inspiration
>>11279786>Honestly the future is China just look at snail shellOh great a bug chaser and coomer shilling his generic garbage.
>>11276418>The 9 year old is taller than BejitaK, B, C
I think we've hit the apex. Joints. Paint. Done right, they're pretty good now. Usually. I guess if I had to think up some new tech... mmm... ...maybe eyeballs "set" perfectly into a face? Like, not even able to turn, just really realistic eyeballs on like an NECA figure or something?
We have to get into the point where nanobots are so cheap, that you don't need cheap chinese slaves to paint it, but the pieces come perfectly painted out of the machine
Seamless with good range of motion. That's it, that should be the end goal

>>11280648fuck that unlocked some old memoriesthose reminded me of that weird batman line that was current at the time
>>11280648I remember seeing this episode for the first time and my friends and I were certain that RC flying DBZ figures were going to be real someday.
>>11280648This was one of my favorite episodes of Dexter's Lab as a kid.
>>11282198This was my favorite batman, even if most of his weapons made absolutely no fucking sense.
>>11280648I always wanted that fucking figure so badly.
>>11280648An official Kaiyodo figure of this would probably fly off the shelves. Nothing beats weaponizing nostalgia against millenials who hate their lives and yearn for happier, simpler times.
>>11276188Baaaaased
>>11276209Definitely a better Cloud than the Bring Sharts.
>>11282978>>11283403It's definitely possible now more than ever to make a simple custom. It just depends on what style of figure you'd want to make him into.
>>11285772this guy is doing almost the exact pose the in-show version does
