Don't really collect HW but I am aware of them, it always surprises me when I am wondering the toy aisles at Target to see the variety of ages of people looking at that section since it can be yong men, young boys (some who don't look old enough to be playing with something that small that they could, with difficulty, swallow), and even some very older men.

I was annoyed this sold out when I saw it on BBTS, and it never popped up elsewhere, by itself, without buying the whole case of these Pop Culture versions, or WM/Crapazom (although today it seems to be on Amazon), so thrilled to find it at a local Target. And for less than scalpers were trying for on eBay.

I also bought two of these (HW, but different animation/video franchise) for a person who didn't seem too thrilled to get them as 'extra gifts' but what can you do.

What makes so many people into diecast just chasers rather than actually seeming to enjoy the thing? And that's without going into the horror stories of them pushing kids out of the way and opening boxes before the staff put them out

I'll reserve judgement until I see one in real life but you're probably right; an F1 car is so complex that doing it justice is a hard ask for a $1 peg car.

Probably gonna be all the same casting with different paint schemes.

Clarification needed:
Are you talking about running them down a plastic track?

Collecting only die-casts that are based on IRL race cars and track cars? (Guilty)

Was mostly talking about running in a plastic track.
Because some times is disappointing to get a car, and they can't really roll on the default tracks.

Because if we talk about collecting, it will just depend of your taste and if you like what you see.

>What makes so many people into diecast just chasers rather than actually seeming to enjoy the thing?
Most people are simple creatures who love the dopamine hit they get when they buy/collect things, especially if they can put all those things in a row and make it feel like an accomplishment. Same reason people buy FunkoPops--it's the unified presentation and identical packaging that gives them a sense of satisfaction, along with being able to buy something that represents a personal interest, or something the recognize from somewhere else. Not the actual, physical product itself.
>hey guys [sincere post about diecast cars and not just the latest case in Walmart]
>tumbleweeds
to be fair, that happens here, too. These threads die young due to neglect all the time, and pics of boring carded stuff are fairly prominent. The problem that arises is that when the people with genuinely deep interest in a topic realize that a given community won't or can't engage with them at their level... they leave. And now all of these communities are overrun with normies looking for social media clout, it's even harder to sift through all of them to find the handful of folks who actually give a fuck and connect with them, especially on a cesspit like reddit that prioritizes popularity and engagement over actual content. But hey, that's just the whole internet, these days.

>>11281636
Nice! Cruise Bruiser is a personal fav. I have an inverted version of that deco with white paint and a gold stripe. I loved it so much, actually, it made me start a dedicated station wagon collection (pic unrelated, it's just the only shot of Cruise Bruiser I could find in my camera roll, lol).

>>11277920
Oh fuck, that's RAD. I'd love to have one to go with the first Batmobile I got a couple of months ago.
>>
>>11281389
can't say anything about hw tracks, never had any. However i prefer them be able to roll, even if it isn't the main point of the model. Simply watch them roll around when i toss them on the desk or on a shelf or whatever is very satisfying, even if it's just a childish way of satisfaction.
Now pic related is the first model that doesn't roll that i've got but i can turn a blind eye on it since it looks so fine, far from perfect, sure, but couldn't skip it
>>11281636

Well, I'm one of them. I got back into diecast a few years back because some other anon was showing off his Cadzilla and it was a slipperly slope. I am just generally a Cadillac enthusiast as well, and the MBX Deville is probably one of my favorite castings of all time.
>the vinyl top is the cherry on top, too bad around here they're so rare.
I used to love real vinyl tops on cars, and I still do, in theory. But after owning two Caddies with vinyl tops in real life, NEVER AGAIN, lol. They're such a pain in the ass, and for some reason they always make the rear window prone to leak into the trunk.

Cool, thanks! I've been really into the Dome Zero since I got Transformers classics Hot Rod, which has an alt mode based heavily on it. Been wanting some diecast of it for a while!

It's kind of nuts that there hasn't been a dedicated line of concept cars from either Hot Wheel or Matchbox. At the very least, I wish we got one or two a year.

Just a rant
Maisto should release a 1/12 honda monkey.
The Tamiya model kit requires lots of tools and supplies that I don't have and the Aoshima is too expensive for my taste.
Any other 1/12 honda monkey models that I should consider?

ive been going to target before opening to meet up with some guys and buy hot wheels, and today i was sitting on the bench outside the entrance when two patrol cars drove by, looked at me, did a small loop and turned on their lights. when i saw the come on i thought maybe i looked suspicious so i stood up and walked toward them to tell say im just waiting for target to open when they (very sternly) told me to stay in front of the car and keep my hands out of my pockets (it was like 45 degrees out so i had my hands in my pockets subconciously. they told me to put my hands behind my back and i was super confused and lowkey scared but tried my best to cooperate. i didnt see the cuffs they used but it felt like that firm rubber you see coated on those metal hooks you drill into a wall to hang stuff up on

i asked what i was being detained for because i knew from youtube thats the first thing you should ask. they told me i matched the description given on a call from someone who saw a man pulling on car door handles. i told them how surprised i was that i matched the description so well, especially considering one of the details was the man had a black backpack, and this was the first time i actually brought one with me to go hunting.

as they were searching my bag and body for weapons (of which i had none, the most dangerous object i had in my possession was my house key) an older man came by saying he was the one who called and that i wasnt the guy. and sounding like straight out of a dream, the man pointed 50 feet to the left at the actual guy, who was for some reason just standing there watching us instead of running away. im glad he was stupid though as well as the caller being there or i dont know what would have happened to me. the cops then uncuffed me and thanked me for cooperating and let me go.
>>
>>11289591
the whole interaction lasted for around 2 minutes but felt way longer as it was my first time being detained, and hopefully the last even if i did nothing wrong. i met up with the guys outside the entrance after they saw the whole thing so we joked about how im a hardened criminal or whatever, then went in and got some cars. after walking out i was riding my bike and one of the officers who detained me called me over (they were still there with the actual guy) and asked me a few questions about the hotwheels, and i showed him the red edition tooned porsche ive been looking for forever.

all in all, even though it was a super scary situation i feel like it was a good thing and i understand they were just doing their job, plus i got to see how much of a pussy i really am under pressure
>>
>>11289592
Why did they ask you about hot wheels? Did they say they are sorry?
>>
>>11289592
Sir, im afraid were gonna have to see your hotwheels.
Any fantasy castings on you?
Why do you have this mbx car on you when you previously mentioned specifically hot wheels?
>>
>>11289591
If you're white, never comply with cops. Question them and give them a hard time for bothering you while you're just standing around. You did the right thing by asking why you were being detained, but you really should have asked that before they even got cuffs on you. They probably figured it wasn't you at all, but they were going to put someone in cuffs because they just wanted to power trip and play their little make believe game.

Don't give pigs the pleasure of being a complacent little citizen. Make them feel as stupid as they are. Otherwise they're just going to go home and rape their wives/girlfriends while high on the energy of being in control of another human being.

>JL V8 Vantage
Some good taste there, anon. I'm glad the V8 is getting some props since they used it in that shitty Craig movie. I always thought it was an underrated Bond car, and the snowy chase scene in Living Daylights is peak.

Back when JL first started doing Bond cars back in 1998, they were basically my first experience with "collector" diecast. I hunted down the whole 10-car set AND kept them carded. Still have them, actually. The feeling of browsing the aisles at every K-Mart and KB Toys just to find a new one was a whole new drug for my 12-year-old brain and I'll never forget it. Good times.
