Also, what are your guys' general feelings about Legends vs Mafex vs price, are the Mafex ones justifiable for how much more they cost? I haven't looked at figures since I was a kid so am ignorant to all this, I just saw that Mafex Phoenix and upcoming Rogue and they look pretty awesome but are much more expensive, but then the faces on some of the Legends ones like She-Hulk look really great.

Well one is a literal children toy and the other one is an adult collectible, so the prices will be different. If you're happy with how legends look then you're probably better off sticking with legends. I personally dislike the way MLs look so I avoid them and for me its worth the high price to get a figure that looks good and articulate just as good too than get a cheap figure where 90% is reuse and the only thing unique about the figure is the headsculpt.

For Mafex, watch reviews and look for ones that articulate better than MLs or that look superior to you enough to justify the price. Not all Mafexes are good, some have limitations so reviews are good to check out, especially when you're paying a lot. MLs you usually know what range you're getting due to reuse of parts.

MLs are frustrating because when they really try they're the fucking best, but when they don't even try they're the worst shit, and the line's too inconsistent, their highest highs put them at the top of the 1/12 scale but their lowest lows put them at the bottom of the barrel
Mafex goes from incredible figures to mediocre ones, Gambit, Magneto, Cyclops and Brown suit Wolverine and 075 Spidey are obscenely awesome, meanwhile their entire female roster + every Spidey variant released since then are some of the most boring figures that you'll ever get, the sculpt is bland, the style is too vanilla and that's why every female looks the same, having both Phoenix figures in hand made me realize how much I enjoy Hasbro's "risks" at making a great figure, compared to the criminally boring Mafex Phoenix and not even talking about the Phoenix effect but the figure itself, I enjoyed the smiling and sinister headsculpts way more than the same Mafex female headsculpts that you get in every release, and again when Hasbro tries they give you some of the sexiest sculpts for both male and female figures, but Mafex Phoenix looks like a sack of potatoes, diaper and everything

I'm generally happy with most Mafex releases I've gotten. Stuff like for DC characters that don't get really any other six inch options, Mafex is my go-to. As for Marvel, you have a lot more options there so it really depends on how much I like the character. Like I'm an Avengers fan but not enough of one to build a team of them for the price point of a Mafex. X-Men though? Mafex are absolutely worth the price for me since they're doing what I consider the definitive versions.

Basically, Mafex makes good stuff, it's just a matter of how much you're willing to spend for a character.

In a fair few cases, Mafex is a "buy once, cry once" proposition. ML's will continue to release incrementally better figures of the major characters as long Hasbro has the license.

Yes there is a stark difference in quality. Although I will say it does feel like domestic lines, like Marvel Legends, are closing the gap. With imports like Mafex you're getting stiffer plastic, more paint, a higher accessory count, more complex articulation scheme, smoother joints, and just an overall higher quality experience. That comes with the higher price point though. So you get trade offs. Personally, I feel imports are great for your top tier, most favorite characters. Then domestics are better if you want to world build, you're never going to get a more complete Marvel Universe than you will with Legends. But because they pump out so many figures a year, the quality is far more inconsistent.

Good on you. Mafex occasionally does reissues so you may get lucky and snag a character you may have missed. Also, there's a bootleg company called CT Toys that recently started making pretty decent bootlegs of various Mafex, Revoltech, and SHF figures. For Mafex, they've done classic and black suit Spidey, Brown Suit Wolverine, and they just released the Tiger Stripe versions as well. While they aren't as good as authentic Mafex figures, they're certainly not bad for the price you pay. They're certainly an option at least.

As for MLs, don't listen to the naysayers in here. They are solid figures. Yes the quality is fairly inconsistent, but that's because the pump out like 100+ figures a year.

It has more to do with retailers and how much they order vs. how much is actually sold. In 2020 and 2021 we saw an unprecedented event where a huge number of people found themselves with excess cash and free time so you had this giant surge in the collecting community. Retailers, and toy companies, responded in a non forward thinking way, and increased the production numbers to what seemed like an unprecedented level. I've never seen as many of one wave of figures ordered to a single store as I did during the time frame when the AoA and Eternals waves hit. Obviously both IPs not being popular (at least today in AoAs case) didn't help, but the amount of stock on the shelves couldn't just be explained away with just "oh they're not that popular". In response to the copious amounts of unsold product that eventually made it's way to Ollies, retailers like Walmart and Target began ordering less and less. Now though, you rarely see MLs stay on the shelves because stores order so few. They'll see this, assume the brand is popular again and swing back to ordering more product. Won't happen for another year or so probably, but that's just how the market works. Not even the first time something like this happens, in fact the pendulum swinging back and forth between too much product on shelves and too little happens on a regular basis.

Moreso it's the fact they reuse parts across the line quite heavily. It's the only real way they can release the sheer number of figures as they do. And because these parts are reused so much you have molds that are 15 years old still occasionally being used. Although, they have gotten better about sticking to newer molds and articulation schemes lately.

As for CT, you can get them on AliExpress. I've personally picked up Brown Suit Wolverine and the Agent Anti Venom they did which is based of the recent Amazing Yamaguchi Agent Venom, which they also have a figure of. Agent Anti Venom is essentially a recolor of the Agent Venom but with a few retooled parts. It's unique in that there isn't an Amazing Yamaguchi Agent Anti Venom like there is regular Agent Venom I'm kinda tempted to pick up the regular CT Agent Venom too, but people have said his QC isn't as good as Anti's. They're good figures for the $20-$25 you spend on them although your mileage will vary with AliExpress. Recently they announced they're doing versions of the Mafex Ben Reiley Spider-Man, Scarlet Spider, and I wanna say I saw something about them doing Amazing Yamaguchi Spider Man 2.0. I already have all the originals of the newly announced stuff, so I have no reason to get the CT version, but hopefully their quality is solid.

I am. It's a solid figure for sure. Joints are all solid, even if you can see the pins in certain poses, paint is clean, accessories swap out as well as the real deal does. It's just slightly smaller than the original figure but it fits in quite well with MLs if you mix and match. If you're interested in it I'd recommend it, especially at the $18 I paid for mine. I'm not as much of a fan of the Mafex Tiger Stripe Wolverine though due to a few nitpicks like his stripes not being black and the style of his claws. I wish CT took some liberties with theirs and fixed the stripes and used the claws from the Brown Suit instead. The claws are SO much better looking on Brown Suit Wolvie than the Tiger Stripe version imo. But those are just my personal nitpicks. I'm sure Tiger Stripe is just as solid as Brown Suit. If you're interested in Brown Suit though, definitely pick one up. Just be sure to pick a seller on Ali that has a high rating and has already sold a good number of figures already.

It's a ko so I don't care about fucking it up but I think this is gonna work. I just cut the peg with an exacto and CA glued it to the other side. It feels solid I think if I heat up the arm before putting it in it will hold and should articulate fine. Its cheap plastic anyways the glue seems to be holding solid.

CT Toys eating everyone's lunch, I don't know how they are able to reach this level of quality for KOs they sell for around 20 dollars. They aren't perfect but for how much they cost they are a steal. They don't suffer from cheap brittle joints or parts like other "good" kos and the paint is better than decent . Delicate parts like the claws should not be possible at this price point in a KO. Im completely happy with these 2 stand ins having missed out on the Mafex originals.

Amazon has already begun gouging sooner than Walmart. I've seen prices from other lines rise above MSRP while still in the preorder period on Amazon, but not yet for Legends except for a buck or two (like the preorder for female Electro is $25.99 on Amazon right now instead of $24.99).

Jada automatically is disqualified just based on your desire for the Orb and other characters like that who Jada will never actually get to. Yes, there was some weird fuckery going on with a few actor licenses for NWH it seems and to skirt around those issues, they just used the likeness rights from the respective films they were from. Most notably SHF Andrew was originally supposed to come with an unmasked head like Tobey and Tom. But because SHF didn't have likeness rights for TAS2, they had to cancel all the original orders and re-solicit the figure without the head. Hasbro, still has TAS2 rights from when they did figures of that film and most likely retained some rights from the Rami films after all these years. I know they weren't around for Spider-Man 2, but I wanna say they acquired the license with Spider-Man 3, I might be misremembering.

Yeah, I really don't like the default head either. Not sure what they were going for with that. The glowing eyes head is fine though. So glad I ended up snagging that 2 pack way back when before it shot up in price. I paid $55 for it and while that was a little expensive back in 2017, it's basically what your standard 2 pack costs now. It's been worth it just for the Phoenix heads, let alone the fact we still haven't gotten a properly updated Cyclops in that costume. Before the new Widow came out a few years ago, I used the head in >>11284565 on the retro carded Black Widow since I always thought the head that came with that figure looked like Mary Jane cosplaying as Widow.

this might be the best Warbird/Carol Ms. Marvel ever but even though it's the superior figure I still feel some buyer's remorse with this being an store exclusive and shorter than the 3-pack version.
