I know it's nothing crazy fancy or sets people have been drooling over here, but I'm super excited for both these sets and the minifigure packs. It's my birthday and my partner took me to the Mall to get Pretzels and go to the Lego Store. There was a 10 minute line just to get into the store, never seen it packed like that. They only had 2 copies left of that Tudor Corner GWP and it was funny seeing people all audibly gasp and rumble angry when they announced it.

Is it even confirmed to be a set with minifigs? I was assuming it would be like the old 2005 Death Star II. I think it would be pretty cool if the round completed side had (coverable) rooms and then the side under construction was just like how it is in the movie.

On the other hand, at this price point, I'd hope that (but not expect) lego to have figured out an alternate build system allowing you to build either Episode 4 or 6 rooms. It's the reason I never bought (either version) of the set, it feels so stupid having a set like this where neither the rooms make sense, nor can you cover them up.

Modern unlicensed castle isn't, it's fucking plain boring mundane domestic shit, a castle with kitchens and bedrooms and toilets, a giant blacksmith shop to play house and and a peasant village with farming and carpentry and shit like that. That is not what generic medieval fantasy is about, its about heroes going on adventure quests and warring magical races and facing giant monsters and looting old ruins

Ah that makes sense. Perhaps this is the concequences of licensing to begin with though. It's like how Star Wars killed generic space, with generic space now returning but being boring pacifist hippie city space, and not cool space wars (the blacktron set being the wonderufl exception to this).

Perhaps they're actually worried about market cannibalisation with LOTR/Harry Potter, though I see how DnD could be an aid to this, but also, with Ninjago. Although Ninjago is more sci fi now than before, lego has plenty of options of "action oriented + a bit of psuedohistory", even if it's the expense of actually good stuff. That's true to classic space as well, since Lego has generally been averse to doing militaristic themes (Star Wars apparently doesn't count since it's a licensed property). The original Space theme was also about space explorers without any antagonistic faction, and in the "faction era" of classic space themes (where all the subthemes were explicitly treated as factions sharing the same setting, and where we got Blacktron et al.) a third of the factions were civilians (Futuron and Ice Planet were both researchers/scientists, and M:Tron was either space search and rescue or miners, depending on the region), and the even the other themes were either spies and technology thieves or police instead of actual militaries (Unitron was apparently envisioned as a more militaristic faction that would fight the space-spies of Spyrius, but the theme got cut so short it never really got a proper identity and mostly got treated as another civilian subtheme)

I picked up a couple bins of Lego off the marketplace for my daughter today.

I started sorting it so I could wash it and group up all the friends stuff for her. While I'm doing that, I come across some peices that are glued, and I got a bit judgey. Then a pile of arms and legs that were ripped off. I was mildly annoyed but they can be reconnected I guess. Some peices with bite marks and some intentionally broken pieces and again I wasn't upset, just slightly annoyed.

Came across some off brand stuff, which I'll never judge someone for. Just set aside for donation.

I was about to finish up when I thought to myself, you've been putting off organizing your old box of Lego you were going to give to her, might as well do it now...

I pull out the bin and what did I find? That I was an absolute savage with my childhood Lego and I should embarrassed that spent hours being semi annoyed at how someone's kid, who quite honestly, treated their Lego way better than I ever did.

Nostalgia told me that when I opened up that bin, all I would find are pristine bricks and no missing pieces.

Nope; it was a mess of chewed on bricks, mutilated mini figs, scratched, discolored, and broken bricks. Base plates, that for some reason or other I decided snap in half to fit whatever dream creation I had in my head at that moment.

Sometimes it's nice to be reminded that kids today, aren't all that different from kids yesterday.

Just finished Book 1 of Lion Knight Castle. It's been a pretty fun building and the curves in the folding area were pretty neat, but so far 3 out of the 4 soldiers I put together were women, which is pretty damn stupid. There should be maybe one female soldier. This is why we need double sided two-gendered heads so we can choose.

You're darn right it's a T1. I used someone else's instructions with small changes of my own for stability, and some Big Ben Bricks for the wheels. The axles they gave are real shit though: the wheels keep falling off and I'm gonna have to do some improvising if I want her to run.

Also I see a Logging Railway in the background; were you as disappointed as I was with the delicacy of most of the set? I set my rails up for the first time on Christmas and found that parts kept falling off in the course of normal operation. You can't even just pick up the flatcar or caboose without damage, they've got to be treated gently. Pic related, though it's clear my Lego train-fu is nowhere near yours

I think the caboose is adorable and I like the design, but yeah the whole thing is fragile. Same thing with this t1 sadly. My Daylight could fuck a horse and come out no worse for wear but I think this needing the big custom wheels makes it a bit unbalanced. Maybe I just need better axles.
