With apologies, no one had made a new thread yet when the old one dropped off. Tried to update what stood out.
>>
Mattel should have gave Extendar his karate chop hands.

Nice OP. thanks. I dont think apologies are neccessary.
On another note
I wasnt really surprised with Rio being delayed today. I figured if it actually went ahead today it would have been a cluster fuck. No announcements, pics etc, being on a monday and all, holidays and the other drop just didnt make sense. I was thinking maybe they didnt make allot and were being all quiet about it perhaps.

tq: I'd like to see laser light/power this year, some powers of grayskull. Ready for Dinos but suspect thats not happening. Only ladies from CC and pass on togs and any other crossover

I think old OP might have quit, so no need to apologise.
>TQ:
I am looking forward to BBTS finally putting my Moduloks and Horde Prime Troopers in my fucking PoL.
Seriously though, ToG Rattlor might be top of the list, with ToG Ninjor just below it.
Mainline Vintage characters, we know about nothing but Rio, but I really hope we see Dragstor and Blast Attack this year. I got a feeling we might see Hurricane Hordak too, but those two are top of the list.
Everything else: Strobo and maybe Plasmar, but I've given my reason why I think he's a long shot. Add Brainbug and those Horde Scorpion fucks.
Also add Stretch Nek, Toxoid, Cham-or and Dart-os, just because I want to start this thread by putting a noose around your necks and reminding you THIS IS NAGA COUNTRY.
I'll shut up now.
>>11288174
I am still slightly annoyed about that.
>>11288298
I hope Mondo don't rape us like they are doing with the RGB fans. I also hope they find a paint formula that doesn't chip like their 1/6 stuff has a tendency to do.
>>
>>11288174
If we're complaining about hands
>They didn't give regular Grizzlor a second open hand, even though they included it with Dark Grizzlor so we know it exists
>No second gripping hand or closed fist for Sy-Klone so he can punch with both hands

And fuck it
>Skeletor feet on Modulok 's finned feet instead of the four pronged feet.

That one might be the most frustrating. You put in all that work for all that new tooling, and then spoiled the vintage accuracy because you were too lazy to swap out the feet you used with the fins on Frog Monger.
>>

>TQ: Who are you looking forward to this year

I think pessimism has well and truly set in because my expectation is currently no one except Two-Bad.
The shit I want I don't expect them to make this year, and the shit I expect them to make is all stuff I don't want.

Fuck yeah brother I feel that. It's like why go through all the trouble of making this over priced exclusives if you are going to drop the ball like that? People criticize Scott so much but at least Classics fumbled the details way less than Origins.
>>11288383
>pessimism has well and truly set in
Same here. This is the first year I don't want to wishlist a bunch of characters because I know we aren't going to get them. I hope that we at least get some PoP cast and make some progress on finishing Vintage. It would be great to see lost 88 finish, as well as He-Ro and Eldor. Updated NA would be kino. But realistically I know its more cross overs and more snakes.
>>
>>11288383
Including Rio and Two-Bad, there are only 8 decent figures left to make if we include Saurod. Gwildor sucks, Blade is boring, and as much as I like Saurod he's gonna get nerfed so you can't set your sibling on fire with him.
And the Zoids and Laser bois are only wanted because nearly nobody had them as a kid.
I'm pessimistic as well, but for vintage, I think we will get more than two figs.
>Rio Blast
>Two-Bad might as well be a
>Hurricane Hordak
>Dragstor
>Blast Attack
>Stonedar
>Multi-Bot
>Energy Zoids
>Laser He-man and Skeletor
Split this list between this year and next, (maybe even save the Laser fuckos for the movie anniversary since the toys had heads inspired by the movies) and it works out to the exact same amount of vintage as we got last year, that's if you count the Zoids two pack as the equivalent of the Modulok/Multibot UPC
I honestly think all the movie guys will be saved for 2027 for the anniversary, and might even be retail along with movie versions of the mains plus the ones we never got like Karg. CC will have run its course by then, ThunderCats will be over, so it makes sense.

You want to be really pessimistic? Wish for a vehicle. Bashasaurus or Spydor.
Fuck, I'm starting to doubt we'll ever get Mantisaur.
>>
>>11288416
Rio Blast and Two-Bad should have ticks next to their names to signify that they are just about done, but apparently that is too complicated for 4chins to enable.
>>
>>11288416
>pessimistic as well, but for vintage, I think we will get more than two figs.

Just to clarify my stance, it's not that I think we'll get nothing after Two Bad this year. I think we will get more vintage
But, it's that who I think is MOST likely to get those spots are a leader variant (I don't buy those unless they have new extra heads) and a rock (which I've already skipped one of those because I have the same attitude to rocks that you have towards Gwildor and Zoids), so there's nothing to particularly excite me.
>>

>>
>>11288435
>it's that who I think is MOST likely to get those spots are a leader variant (I don't buy those unless they have new extra heads)
Do they have to be extra heads? Cos I think the Laser boys have different enough heads to not be the same old thing since they were based on Dolph and the Langella mask. As for Hurricane Hordak, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets an alt head since his counterparts got them. So you should be safe there.
>and a rock
No, that's understandable. Even as a kid, Stonedar was more boring than Rokkon in my eyes, but they were both less impressive toys than Rock Lords.
So I can see your point. I'm lucky that out of the last 12 remaining including the movie guys, only the Zoids will really disappoint me if they come before anything else.
>>
is mattel still trying to make motu evergreen and are they just dripfeeding us until the movie?
What's the toy side of the movie going to even look like? A wave of 5 shitty masterverse figures that'll look right at home next to hasbros D&D movie slop?
>>
>>11288496
>A wave of 5 shitty masterverse figures
Aren't Masterverse usually 4 per wave? So maybe 4 basics and 2 or 3 deluxe, with one of the deluxe being oversized Goatman.
Hopefully also Goatman in Origins to jump on his hype from his movie appearance. But they will be lazy and just use the Classics head. Which I will be fine with, but I know others won't.
>>
>>11288098
Looking forward to ToG Ninjor, actually, and really hoping the Thundercats crossover comes out sooner than later.
>>
>>11288484
>Do they have to be extra heads

No, just new heads that I can use for swapping. Like I bought Terror Claws for the troll face but skipped Dragon Blaster because he only had the basic head
So Hurricane is gonna need something other than the grimacing or the smiling Hordak face to get me to buy.

>>11288513
I'm not ok with it because I can pop a Classics head on an Origins body myself with a little heat. I'm not giving Mattel 20-30 bucks plus shipping for something I can do myself.

Anyone that had Squeeeze on preorder at BBTS is shit out of luck. Just got an email saying he's cancelled because the supplier is out of stock. Most of you won't care because Serpentphobia is rife in these threads, and I will live because I was just hoping to score another one for a future custom if Stretch Nek gets released. He would have had the neck from Stretch Nek and the arms of Squeeze, and I would have called him Constrict-or. Got some other snake customs planned because I want to beat Axel at his own game just with part swaps.
Also, I shat myself when I saw it was a MOTU cancellation because I thought it was going to be Horde Prime Trooper. Thank fuck it's not.

There's no good reason why they couldn't get all these out over the span of the next 12 months
>Year of Our Snakes managed to get out 6 vintage Snakes, a He-Man and a Skeletor variant, Mekaneck, Spikor and Moss Man

("Mattel =Fags" doesn't count as a good reason)
>>
>>11290228
>There's no good reason why they couldn't get all these out over the span of the next 12 months
It's obviously to drag out the line as long as they can after faggots said "I'm done as soon as I get Two-Bad/Dragstor/Gwildor.
If you got a hooker that wanted to end the session the second you blow your load, you'd be holding off shooting your wad for as long as possible to get your money's worth.
>>
>>11290291
>obviously to drag out the line as long as they can after faggots said "I'm done as soon as I get Two-Bad/Dragstor/Gwildor.

I keep hearing this rationale and it makes literally zero sense to me.
If I want to buy vintage only, I'm not going to be buying anything not vintage regardless of how you space them out.
If you've got 10 figures left and release them in six months, I'll buy 10 and walk away
If you spread those 10 over 12 months and release a bunch of shit I don't want in between to "stretch it out", I'm still only buying 10 figures and just being annoyed besides.
And the folks that DO want the non-vintage stuff are gonna buy it all anyway and stick around anyway after vintage is done, so you don't need to stretch it out on their account.

Surely the market of NPC minded consumers thatd be like "must consume all product to kill time until vintage finished. Only stop collecting after vintage. Do not buy anything after vintage" like their preprogrammed can't be that big, can it? Because that's the only kind of person I see it being an effective strategy to use on
>>
New Eternia Evil-Lyn just came in stock at BBTS. They nailed everything except the elbows.
>>
>>11290341
>I keep hearing this rationale and it makes literally zero sense to me.
>If I want to buy vintage only, I'm not going to be buying anything not vintage regardless of how you space them out.
>If you've got 10 figures left and release them in six months, I'll buy 10 and walk away
It's not just about unit sales for individual figures, though that is important to a degree. It's also about customer retention. Regardless of whether you buy Vypor or ToG April, there is a subsection of the customer base that will buy Vypor and ToG April to fill the gap while waiting for the next vintage, but once vintage is over, the majority of them are probably done too. Until then, you are all a customer on Mattel's charts.
Stretching it out means you will be a customer for another 2-3 financial years instead of just one, which is better for profit forecasts (even if they are inaccurate due to the fact that some customers are limiting their purchases to just vintage), which incentivizes investors and keeps the shareholders happy. The line must never go down.
You are only looking at it from your side of the fence. Look at it from the point of view of a Mattel executive that knows for a fact that there will be a mass customer exodus the second that vintage is done. Do you want to blow your load now, or do you want to enjoy the full hour with the $10000ph escort that you hired?
>>
>>11290371
>Look at it from the point of view of a Mattel executive that knows for a fact that there will be a mass customer exodus the second that vintage is done
Yes because vintage motu was such a retail powerhouse they had to move it to Mattel Creations only.
Mattel should just do a subscription again. Think of how handy it would be to get shipped a wave every couple months. They could do whatever character they wanted and would put some weight because the idea of "people dropping vintage" because there would be an actual meteric to gauge whose still buying any of this shit.
>>
This place surely has gotten a lot more sorrowful and jaded from when I last checked in a few years ago...
>>
>>11290406
Mattel made some really bad decisions and are burning through the good will from aging boomer demographic.
I got tired of trying to chase down exclusives and not being able to buy the toys without it being a pain in the ass.
>>
>>11290406
Because we're 5 years in and know how this shit goes now, so the big hopes we had in 2020 are either less likely to still happen or the boat has sailed completely
>>
>>11290406
I think you just happened to check during an active vent.
Appears anons are excited about thundercats and this transformers crossover.
Rio blast less than two weeks away. Wow, can you believe it guys ?
These excellent ladies from the Cartoon collection.
And theres the drip feed of vintage that people come out of the woodworks on release days.
Its a different scenario now than a few years ago.
I dunno, maybe check back in a fews days or a week and check the temp again ?
This thread does need more OC, More OC I tell you. I've been meaning to take a few more photos.
Doodleanon are you still here ?
>>
>>11290413
my guess is most of the figures that are exclusives or hard to get just wouldn't get made otherwise because after the initial push with Origins, Masterverse and the kids line for that tv show, Mattel realized they were not going to be able to keep these things widely available and in stores due to the appeal of the lines fading to a niche audience.

It happens with every line, it is a natural process of how toy lines go. I think they should've gone made to order instead however as that's less frustrating for collectors, who they have pretty much accepted are their primary audience now with the low run exclusive and online strategy.
>>
>>11290405
>Yes because vintage motu was such a retail powerhouse they had to move it to Mattel Creations only.
I'm pretty sure the 100,000,000 cases of wave 7 at retail that stopped retailers from ordering any future waves was a contributing factor in that decision. This way they could better control production numbers, which was why some of the earlier MC vintage like Grizzlor had to have an extra made to order run so they could fine tune production numbers.
>Mattel should just do a subscription again. Think of how handy it would be to get shipped a wave every couple months.
Honestly, I wouldn't be against this. The international flat rate shipping is too much for a single figure I don't care about, like Geldor. Two figures would make it more palatable. A full wave would have me on board, even if there was a dud in every wave like Geldor.
Of course, you know they would slip an Axel snake in every wave and doom the idea within a year.
>>11290406
Once they moved to make most vintage only available as MC exclusives, it was like when the Mouth of Sauron threw the Frodo's Mithril chainmail at Gandalf.
We got 18 Origins releases last year (not including Cartoon Collection and Turtles of Grayskull) and only 4 were actual vintage figures (plus one vehicle/mount with Night Stalker, and one playset since Eternia shipped), and only one of those wasn't an MC exclusive.
We got two more Lost 88 figs, but they were originally Walmart exclusive nightmares, and even BBTS has been sporadic getting them out to customers. The remaining consisted of 3 Axel snakes (which the majority of anons hate) a Horde Trooper repaint, Geldor and Demo-Man (both MC exclusives) two Stranger Things two packs, and King Grayskull shipped with the Eternia playset. I think that was it.
Also, Jared Leto was cast as Skeletor in the movie, so add that to the list of reasons people think it's fucking dire right now.
>>
>>11290440
>Origins, Masterverse and the kids line for that tv show....at retail
Yeah this was madness. We've armchair quarterbacked this to death over the years, but really was a bad play.

Up here in Canada distribution really fucked Motu's chances at a revival. Pretty sure that Wave 1 (excluding maybe He-Man and Skeletor) didn't even ship to leafland, but then we got hammered with endless Clamp Champs and Ram Mans. Getting big fancy Motu displays at Wal Mart filled with nothing but Clamps and $30 Battlecats without a He-Man. Seriously, who dropped the ball on not having a He-Man and Battlecat gift set, reasonably priced to get people into the line. Especially during Christmas 2020 lol lmao I could see some random normie buying a set like that based on meme or nostalgia. But a big ass cardboard Castle Greyskull in the center of the aisle in December. Filled with a midget, a nigga and a stray cat. NOT the main character or his iconic villain.
Not even Scott's character bios could damage the brand as much as that spectacle.
>verifigaytion not required
>>
>>11290457
Here it was wave 5 that really jammed things up. Wave 1 was a mystery, but wave 2 did show up because I snagged Man-e and Trap Jaw. Wave 3 and 4 both were at Toys R us and Walmarts. Always in small numbers and would sell though immediately. But then wave 5. Oh shit man, once she showed up purple Evil Lyn never left the pegs. Worse was that Steph from the WWE was still warming at that time so it was a double slap when you walked down the aisle. Evil Lyn was still on the peg at TRU as of the the week before Christmas. She's probably the last Origins physically available at retail in Canada.
>>
People seem to be going through some strange revisionist history here. Heman and Skeletor were widely available in bulk, at least in the US. I don't think Mattel believed that Canada would have any effect on their strategy as it was, as many American company things are, solely targeted at America and the other countries were an after thought. If it failed in the US, it would be a failure to Mattel even if it succeeded in Canada.
>>
>>11290480
Here in Australia, wave 1 almost doomed shit from the start. I suspect it wasn't the entire of wave 1, but we must have gotten solid cases of first He-man and soi Skeletor, because I was still finding pegs full of those at the start of 2023. Finding anything else was a complete crapshoot.
>>
>>11290464
>>11290480
>>11290497
You know what the real problem is here. It that leaf walmart doesnt give a fuck about selling toys (besides turning over actual kids toys) and less than zero shits about adults collecting. All these different experiences I find facinating. You should have seen some of the small town walmarts. Zodac still, lots of horde troopers, and one time I saw both mermans on the shelf at the same time. For me it I only found at walmart. Wave 3, 5 kill us plz, 7, 8, a bit of 11 and no more. Then walmart liquidates their stock, some of sadly never made it to the shelf because of wave 5 and 7:
Wave 6 at dollarama, wasnt fast enough for these then wave 7 plus all those fun deluxes
Wave 12 at winners for cheap, cats too.
>>
As another entry in the MOTU franchise draws to a close, we reminisce about what Mattel could've done better. What went wrong, what went right, and why they prefer Snake Men over Horde.
>>
>>11290528
it sounds like Leaf Walmart wants to turn Canadians into upstanding citizens by trying to steer adults away from collecting and towards more responsible pursuits, like watching two men beat the snot out of each other in a hockey rink.
>>
>>11290497
You can call it revisionist but I just gave you a very accurate description of how Origins showed up at the Wal Marts in my end of the country. Maybe it wouldn't have failed if there was a more even distribution. It was strange to see the displays sent to stores and see multiple toy lines but no He-Mans.
>>11290522
Yeah I guess Mattel's winning strategy was to ignore large markets.
>>
>>11290542
Corporations are just incompetent. A US based company is going to tend to focus on its domestic market first and then make others an afterthought. We saw it with how Japan handled their figures until recently.

Yes I am. I never saw wave 1 at all. I believe I missed it, if it ever came, because I did see pegs for single carded figures, cant remember price tags prob 14.99. With the clamps and rammies plus battlecat
I feel like I've seen stories of maybe one or two cases coming in at first and then never replenished, and this was right before some stupid virus was going around right ?
Dollarama deluxes were BA He-Man and Skeletor, Buzzsaw Hordak. Cant remember if clamps and ram men were there. They also had the masterverse frosta wave and currently have land sharks ? Maybe windraiders ?

I really enjoy collecting them, but since im collecting them instead of playing with them superstars has to be a back burner line. Ive got a few from thrift stores and they are high quality figures, helps if you are a golden age/new generation fan since thats what superstars focuses on. A big problem in my area is even finding them, its like walmart sends one case for the entire area.
>>
>>11290371
Having read this, my take away is that Energy Zoids should be the next vintages

We all know they ain't gonna sell. If you put them out NOW, and then follow them up with Two-Bad, you mask their poor performance on the spread sheet with the big bump the line gets from Two-Bad. Characters you know will be losers should NOT be saved for the end but should be accompanied and followed by characters you know will be winners.

just meant kane was an alt to his masters of the wwe universe version, sorry. just the one new kane with his reverse colors and cape. razor has his full debut purple razor pants and gold vest. he'd switch to alternating between purple trunks and blue trunks afterwards so the full pants was a unique one-off look.

I would buy more if they were easily available. Doink which was the last wrestler I truly wanted. So if I never find more, I don't feel like I'm missing anyone. Great line though. The soft goods are amazing. Before Doink I got Kane and his cape was amazing.

As much lackluster as I find the Zoids, I agree that your way would be the best. Get some of the duds out now while people still care. If I have to wait until 2028 or something there is no way I will still spend that money.

I have to revise what I said here >>11290599 a little bit. When I first saw the empty single pegs, there were only battle cats the deluge of clamp champs and ram men came later.
I'd wager that wave 1 did come in very small numbers with no re stock. I recently saw a market place ad for someone selling wave 1 claiming it came from leaf walmart in the very begining, tracks with some of the other chatter I've seen

That would make sense. The motu collectors I know irl, none of them had wave 1 and they don't show up locally at nerd stores or on marketplace. There were some who got lucky an found wave 1 He-Man and Skeletor. I remember seeing pictures of US Wal-mrts with walls of those two but it was nothing like that here.

WWEternia was similar issues, we skipped wave 1 completely but after 2 there was spotty availability after that.
