A General for discussing scale in Transformers toys, why scale is important, and how Hasbro can better utilize scale for collectors.
>>11293664fuck off scaletard
>>11293697Whats that Seaspray, 3p or osko?
>>11293664Wow, a thread about something that doesn't exist.
>>11293697The cartoon never really leads me to think Powerglide and Warpath are actually minis. They always look to be the same size as the rest of the usual cast.At the same time, I never knew Insecticons were supposed to be so small. They were portrayed as minis while the toys were normal sized.
>>11293739Those 5 and Reflector always were in the middle point between minibots and full "deluxe".
>>11293664Fuck off back to TFW, faggot.
>>11293664I'm so tired of seeing people parrot this fake scale chart. It contradicts itself, contradicts the cartoon (which also contradicted itself) and generally makes very little sense.
>>11293664Why does this need a thread, let alone a general? Did you just get bored of bulling the Lego General and run out of ideas to spam the board with?
>>11293692>>11293697>>11293700>>11293702>>11293700>>11293707>>11293712thank you, these are super helpful!~
>>11293700I get Magnus but why did they make Wreck-Gar so tall?
>>11294761So other figures can ride it. Also that Wreck Gar is mistransformed making him taller.
>>11293664Hey this might actually be a better thread for this than the general.Transformers thread. Can anyone who has this toy - Dark of the Moon Powerglide - grab a ruler and tell me it’s height in robot mode? Inches or centimeters, either way. I wanna know how well it scales against the Core class size figures, and the TFWiki says that he’s “near” Scout Class size, which was around 3.5 in/8.9 cmAlternatively just how does he scale to the Combiner Wars Powergulde? I have that one. The reason I’m looking into getting a different one is because CW Powerglide’s arms fall off so much he may as well be planning a Black Crusade.
>>11293700Commander Magnus is so ridiculously wide it actually looks silly,
>>11293930It uses official reference materials to decide the scale and uses fan made high res images. Being fan made doesn't mean it's not accurate. Die mad about it, fag lord.
>>11295269There are a lot of discrepancies within the chart that need some explaining. You won't.
>>11295308Don't need to explain what comes from the official chart materials.>>11293692At least post using the higher res scale chart.
>>11295338So before just because it was fanmade didn't mean it was inaccurate, now it's official materials? And yes it does need to be explained, because, AGAIN, the chart contradicts both itself and the cartoon, the cartoon was rarely even accurate to itself, and even if some of the heights are "correct" they are still nonsensical, wrong, and gay.
>>11293700There's no fucking way Springer is the same size as Magnus.
>>11295354That's just one of the many glaring inconsistencies in this chart. I know how these autists think so I bet I can even pinpoint the exact scene that made them say that, the scene in the movie where Magnus is talking about Unicron after they lose contact with the moonbase. There is a slow pan across, and Springer and Magnus look almost the same size. The problem of course is that Springer is oversized in that scene and/or Magnus is undersized, take your pick. They could have just as easily used their first scene in the movie for reference instead, where their sizes are correct, but they chose not to.
>>11295499I actually went back to check the original uncolored scale chart and surprise surprise they fucked around with the scale. You can noticeably see Springer is a good head shorter here in the original vs the fan color. You can easily find the unaltered charts online too for verification.
>>11295509Even that's too big for what Springer should be, but yeah there's some very obvious sizecreep from the fans for some characters.Even officially, the movie cars, for example, are way too tall. There's no reason Hot Rod, Kup, and Blurr should be closer in height to Ironhide and Ratchet than to Wheeljack and Prowl, for example. When you see the movie and season 1 guys together in Headmasters, for example, they're all clearly around the same size. This probably started because you see Kup uphill in the foreground from Hound and Bluestreak in the movie in his first appearance, and autists can't into perspective so they decided the new cars were all much taller for some reason.
>>11295517And speaking of perspective, you'll notice also that the characters on the chart are all in different ones. The drawings are all just cribbed from the old Universe profiles. And some of them are viewed looking up (human eye perspective) with foreshortening, some looking down, some turned more to the side, etc.A scale chart for ANYTHING is pretty useless unless the objects are all viewed from the same distance and perspective, or pose in the case of characters. I mean, that's just common sense.
>>11295517>>11295520I don't disagree with you considering scale has been fucked even during Diaclone though I wouldn't throw the chart out completely. I think we can reasonably agree that the Season 1 and 2 bots at least make some logical sense where minibots > carbots > vanbots > Optimus > Dinobots/Skyfire. It's really the Season 3 bots that start to show the major cracks, although you could make the argument that because of future year 2005 fuckery that some vehicles are just larger than their 1980s counterparts. AT MOST I'd see Springer maybe a head taller than Hot Rod but Rodimus would be easily taller than him since he should be comparable to Optimus. Magnus naturally just makes sense as a big bot because he's a goddamn car carrier. It's funny because even Takara acknowledges the scale issues in the Masterpiece line when they talked about and specifically included tiny figurines of Autobots to ride him as well as two different sized human Ginrai. Sucks though that they pussied out by making robot Ginrai too small when they should know that everyone reasonably expects him to be the same size as Optimus.
>>11295509Why is the motorcycle guy fucking huge?
>>11295559Always thought since this was the scale, then Optimus should transform like Motormaster. That would place him more on the same size, around 60 feet tall. And Autobots should basically be the combiners, Menasor, Bruitacus, Defensor, and Devastator. Then they can match up with the huge F15 Decepticons.
>>11296278He doesn't turn into a human sized motorcycle.
>>11296285>Then they can match up with the huge F15 Decepticons.In-universe, everybody mass shifts. Everyone thinks of the obvious examples like Megatron and Soundwave, but the truth is they basically all do it. Just some to greater extremes than others. The carbots shrink down a bit when they transform to their alt modes, while the jet bots actually get a bit bigger.
>>11296307To be fair on the Seekers, a jet's body is essentially hollow, as most of the space inside is taken up by the air intakes to the engines, and a lot of the volume will be filled with voids and lightening holes to make the thing less dense (cuz dense heavy things tend not to fly so good). So chances are a "real" Seeker would compress quite a bit to transform into robot mode, without any actual mass shifting; he'd just collapse a bunch of the hollow spaces in the jet mode to make a more solid but smaller robot mode, in a way not possible on a toy.
>>11295339So the only minis really were just Bumblebee and Cliffjumper? These charts make the rest of the mini guys basically the same size as the average Autobot like Jazz and Prowl.
>>11293739Powerglide would have been fucking huge. An A-10 is a big plane. And all the Decepticon planes would have been fucking enormous. Way bigger than Prime as a truck.
>>11293739>I never knew Insecticons were supposed to be so small. They shouldn't be. The cartoon made them bigger than that but still too small, there's no reason why they shouldn't be at least regular carbot size. I think the logic at play here is "hurr durr insects are small so insecticons should be small too". Again, conveniently forgetting how TFs in canon can change size, and that they're supposed to be GIANT bugs anyway.I was very happy to see the Legacy Insecticons be full deluxes. I'm glad to see the toy designers aren't always as retarded as the fans.
Question.I bought an Armada Demolisher at the last TFcon, but he had no Minicon. At the time it didn't bother me, but eventually it started to so I got Blackout on eBay recently.Weird thing is the "launching" feature when you attach Blackout to Demolisher's alt mode doesn't seem to work. The spring mechanism still works fine, but it's not strong enough to force Blackout out of Demolisher's socket. Is this normal?
>>11293739I never knew Dinobots were supposed to be larger than Optimus either. I always took them to be the same as a larger Autobot like Ironhide.
>>11300103It would be easier and more time effective to look for a review on youtube, "asking google" is a better option than asking here.
there we go, the perfect scalehttps://tieba.baidu.com/p/9423511726>>11300103it's not normal but that mechanism also relies on the wheels rolling smooth.
Anons i was away from tf threads for a while and was mindblown with that announcement of the next version of Trypticon.i moved to another country and left my 2016 trypticon.Holy shit is this real? Will this Trypticon be available on Amazon/regular stores? or it's some exclusive?Bros...i miss my trypticonI love the colorswill he be cheaper?
