every dinosaur in one go, or a couple of vintage vehicles all for 300, maybe. Beyond that, no. They've shown us that they can put out a Fright Zone at $90 still pending any new tariffs. 300 was a ridiculous number.
>>
Apparently the movie is good but its more comedy like gotg and thor ragnarok so don't expect a serious movie like Idk, dune.

Trailer is rumoured for October with Tron Ares
>>
>>11555438
Exactly. If $300 is Mattel's minimum, it can't be something like a simple clamshell playset.
So like, if Mattel thinks they can't sell any more PoP at retail, I'd rather have an "Entrapta and Octavia capture the Rebellion!" crowdfund where if enough people back it, you unlock 15 figures than wait for Mattel Creations to drip feed 15 more Filmation designs that may or may not be PoP over the next 5+ years.
>>
>>11555449
honestly, why doesn't Mattel do this? Set it at a price where there's more profit in that option rather than shipping them all individually.

King Hiss is so weird in the mini-comics.
The premise of the toy is that he wears a heroic human suit so heroes will let their guard down for his sneak attacks. He uses his human suit to trick He-Man once in "King of the Snake Men!", then in every subsequent appearance, he's just wearing his human hoodie and pants around the house in front of Skeletor and his own followers.

At 8,000 , Lodar
At 10,000 , Garn

Replace Rotar and Twistoid with either Rana, a duo or trio of Kobolds or the Gyro Machine and that sounds good

I am a firm believer that nothing vintage (outside Eternia for the obvious reason of its size) should be linked to any crowdfund.
Every fan who wants any given vintage toy should have the opportunity to get it, and not everyone is going to be ready willing and able to support an expensive crowdfund to get them during whatever window Mattel randomly picks.

General question for deepcut lorefags since we're posting Italian comic pages randomly now

What foreign media original characters are worthwhile enough bring back and/or include in Origins?
Just to get the ones I'm actually familiar with out of the way:
>Anti-Eternia stuff from German audio plays is already a fixture
>UK comics had Scrollos and I think that's where Keclar came from too?
>Brazil had Shezar
>Italy had Minox

Also the Snake Goddess, who the author of the "Viper's Vice" Origins minicomic dug out.

Ladybird Books are UK, and those invented the Skelcons, who got 7" figures twice, miniatures in the Clash for Eternia board game and appeared in Revelation.
Clash for Eternia also made minis of the more heavily-armored, silver "Randor Guards" from this one book.
No one seems to have paid attention to Skeletor's army of stereotypical goblins/orcs and Anubis from Galaxy Warriors.

Besides Trap Jaw, Beast Man, Shokoti, Evil-Lyn and Skeletor, who do you hope or expect the bosses of the 12 stages of Dragon Pearl to be?

I give the highest odds to Kobra Khan (he's seen in a cut scene of Central Tower rising from underground), Hordak (we see She-Ra with the He-Man, MAA and Teela sprites, implying she's playable) and Mer-Man just because he's Mer-Man.

If it were up to me, I'd want to round it out with Stinkor, Ninjor, Blast-Attak and Scare Glow, but I think it's more likely to be Tri-Klops, Webstor, Whiplash... maybe Tuvar and Badrah who get fused into Two Bad for their failure and fight you with a new life bar.

Would Brazilian shit be a good crowdfund? It's niche, but if you only need minimum 6000 like the last crowdfunds, surely they could hook at least that many fans?

Like, let's say the core crowdfund is Origins Gorgone for $150-200 (Haslab Giant Man having been $200) depending on if you scale her 16 inches like a vintage giant or go bigger to 24 inches
Tier 1 unlock is Shezar (comes with her full fish form as accessory)
Tier 2 unlock is Zal/Bruar 2 pack
Tier 3 Shezar Primitive Mode figure (but what id do is say that Tier 1 Shezar would have an alternate primitive head, BUT if you get to tier three the alt head would get upgraded to a full figure since the primitive mode had a completely different body than her base form)
>>
>>11556566
It depends on the IP being crossovered with. Turtles didnt need standard releases, the entire appeal was giving them the MOTU makeover. Thundercats, although I would have preferred some wilder original designs for the crossover, is largely just toon accuracy + optional armor to sweeten the deal. Even then I would have preferred the cats on the standard MOTU buck but we crossed that rubicon awhile ago.
>>
>>11556561

>>
>>11556598
I feel like reason Thundercats were handled in this were was because a) line was short b) TC already fit on Eternia and c) market wasn't already oversaturated with TC figures.

Of course, DC still has few advantages. One is lack of hard defined costumes allowing Mattel to fudge detail for parts reuse. The other is that heroes like Superman or Aquman wont need 2 sets of suits like Lion-O did. Sups would need cape at best, everything else is just built into his buck.
>>
>>
Would Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat be a better crossover?
On the one hand, MK has more "R rated MOTU" vibes. There's a reptile disguised as a man, someone with a skull instead of a head, Shao Khan looks like a human cosplaying Skeletor or Hordak and Kitana is his Adora...
OTOH, SF on Origins bodies could be better value, since they might do things like give Ryu/Ken cloth gis (pic half related). Ken with removable gi would be a stealth "Jungle He-Man" if he had a beltless loincloth underneath.

The New Eternia figures are one of my favorite figure lines, but I'm clearly a small minority. I'm nostalgic for the characters in MotU, not the original toys themselves, so I like MV a lot more than Origins. I think that the line starting as a tie-in to that Kevin Smith shit and the first few waves not being great really torpedoed it's chances.

>I'm nostalgic for the characters in NotU, not the original toys themselves,

>>
>>11557075
I'm a total normie, so nobody too obscure. Aside from He-Man and Skeletor, I'd say Ram Man, Fisto, Sy-Klone, and Moss Man. I actually like almost every "major" character, since I feel like they were all pretty well realized beyond just their initial gimmick. I can't think of many other properties with relatively minor characters like Jitsu that I still think are cool enough to want to learn more about.
>>
>>11557068
>First few waves based on Revshit
>Most of those figures didn't look very good
>Was beaten to market by Origins which hooked fans from the start, so when MV finally did hit shelves most fans had already chosen
>All this only about a year after Classics ended and you still had a ton of fans still whining for more of that in the 7 inch scale

Masterverse literally never stood a chance when you look at the whole picture.
>>
Knowledgeable He-Anons, I would appreciate some help. Which She-Ra figure would you consider the best around, especially personal preferences between the New Eternia versus the Deluxe Princess of Power one? Also if anyone has either version, would you be so kind as to show a scale comparison to something else like a Mythic Legions, Marvel Legends etc. I've been struggling to find between-line scale comparisons in youtube reviews.

Huh? Venatica is still a more interesting design that Sharella. The latter is just Battleground Teela as a brunette in a fur bikini top instead of metal. The former is dressed in bones with bare feet and little calf strings.

>The New Eternia figures are one of my favorite figure lines, but I'm clearly a small minority. I'm nostalgic for the characters in MotU, not the original toys themselves, so I like MV a lot more than Origins.
I'm with you on that, but I don't think MV has really delivered in terms of quality. Some of the sculpts and designs have been solid, but even the best of them have weird issues compared to Hasbro's better ouput (I'm not inviting brand shitposting, just stating I think the floor is low). Take the new Terror Claws Skeletor for example. It's almost cool looking but it's not "cool" enough to appeal to people that want MOTU to lean into the edgier pulp aesthetic like the 200X staction figures did, and it's not goofy enough to appeal to Classics/Origins diehards. Why does it even exist? A lot of the line feels somewhat uncommitted.

I'm not even calling it bad. But the whole line just feels like an obligation or something more than Mattel putting its best foot forward in the action figure space. Origins was pretty much never impressive, but it did have a strong identity and a reasonable price point for most of its existence, distribution issues notwithstanding.
>>
I just bought into Origins instead of Masterverse because they made working Battle Armor figures, Buzz Saw Hordak and Mosquitor. I wouldn't have bought a variant (or more) of every character if they hadn't canceled Mega Construx... I'd have rather just had the vast character roster of Classics, the bonus snakes, Sinners etc in smaller scale...
>>
>>11557164
I dont mind parts reuse in the least. I also recognize I'm in the minority in this however. The ideal compromise should be some reuse paired with new parts.
>>
Just started looking into modern MotU figures, was dazzled by that Snake Sorceress Teela only to then find out, like fucking always, she's completely sold out of everywhere except like two EU stores that don't ship to the UK. Action figures are fucking depressing, it's literally always the one you want that is unobtainable.
>>
>>11557184
Also, some of the more desirable figures--like the vintage-style He-Man and Skeletor, or the NE Battle Armor Skeletor--disappeared like vapor. Why?

I'm cautiously optimistic about the Origins 200X line, at least. More than I am Mondo's line, anyway.
>>
>>11557270
>the NE Battle Armor Skeletor--disappeared like vapor. Why?
Because he was released in the same wave as 3 peg-warmers: Two females (Frosta & Evil-Lyn) and the ever boring Man-At-Arms, which meant that retailers ordered fewer cases.

The more heads get reused, the more ridiculous it is. It's one reason I'm happy Origins offered a fun alternative to Mer-Man sharing Stinkor's head.
Like I can imagine Wun-Dar looks like He-Man because he was Randor's grandfather, but Teela coincidentally looking like "the Goddess" born thousands of years ago when she's not her clone? Rattlor is one of three named characters plus a troop type with identical heads? It gets to be a bit much.

Following up on this. So first of all, I still think you moved the goal posts. We argued about this back and forth last thread and you didn't bust out this "they just can't use PoP in tv shows, everybody knows this" until after I posted those card backs. If you knew this the whole time, why wait to post that video?

My impressions from watching that video is that it still feels like we are missing part of the puzzle as to what's going on.
>narrator consistently using "apparently", "perhaps" and other "IF this, than that" type language.
Just pointing out that these are words jump out as assumptive language
>the contracts are not publicly available
>taking Kevin Smith's word at face value
>Revshit tanked and caused a backlash and there was only two parts of a supposed trilogy
It possible that Netflix didn't want to pay for the rights to something a show that wasn't connecting with fans. It seemed like by teasing Despara they were going to set up Adora and She-Ra.
>why did Scott have to pay Dreamworks royalties if Mattel owns toy rights but not TV rights?
>why does the minicomics collection have a big Dreamworks logo on the back cover?
I have the first edition from 2015. If Mattel owned toy rights, does that include mini comics? Does this mean that since 2015, Mattel bought back the rights to PoP because as I pointed out with the card backs there are no other companies logos on the PoP but they are on the Thunder Cats.

Generally speaking the more new parts that can help make figures distinct the better, but sometimes it just doesn't make sense conceptually and much of the time it doesn't make sense economically. The problem with parts reuse comes when budget means the line is trapped with bad decisions for a long time, as is the case with Masterverse in my opinion.

Well let's look at it this way: how many characters could share Roboto's torso before it bothered everyone? Extendar's? Rio Blast's? Dragstor's? Mosquitor's? Buzz Saw Hordak's? Blast-Attak's?
Are 3 characters with Rattlor's torso and arm(s) plenty, or could more work?
How unsatisfying would General Sunder be if he reused the "explode from a punch" Horde Trooper torso?

>>
>>11557955
I think Skeletor has had better luck in the head sculpt department. I even like the Revelation one okay, unlike almost everyone else it seems.

My biggest issue with the line though is that the figures are just unpleasant to handle in terms of both tolerances and articulation design. Most of the joints just feel wrong. I haven't touched anything beyond the first New Eternia figures though. Maybe things have gotten better over the last few years but I don't pop in these threads often enough to know.
>>

Enjoyed Revolution more than Revelation (which I couldn't even finish the final episode of because it was so awful).
Giant Robot Mommy was a welcome addition to the character roster. Better than 90% of Axel's new characters. In all honesty, the Motherboard cult was one of the only things in the first season I didn't think was complete ass.
>>
>>11558026
The Motherboard cult built Blast-Attak, and Mosquitor was going to be on guard outside Snake Mountain while they were running it in Skeletor's absence, until writer's room consensus got him talked out.
>>
>>11558030
>Mosquitor
Damn, that would have been really cool to see him in animation finally. I'm guessing it was nixed because it gave away the twist that the Motherboard cult were puppets of the Horde.
>>
>>11558030
>>11558038
I can't remember where I heard it so take it with a grain of salt (probably the .org before it died), but Mosquitor was also supposed to be in the flashback of He-Man and Teela fighting Whiplash, so well prior to the cult stuff, which wouldve made Mosquitor an Evil Warrior in Rev.
I distinctly remember people bemoaning it and glad they removed it because they'd "have to explain it" rather than just rolling with "this is a different continuity"
>>
>>11557808
Nta anon but my grip with parts reuse is when they do it with too many accessories and weapons.
With body parts its more forgivable because hey they are all generally humanoid creatures so its easy to overlook. Everyone having the same axe, same swords and amour gets boring. Its even worse when its a specific thing like 200x Skeletor sword going to some random army builder.
>>
>>11557808
>I'm not asking if you're generally against parts reuse, I'm asking if there are any specific examples where you wish Frog Monger had new shorts or something.
Oh, got it.
I remembering wanting Frog Monger to have new shorts, since he was drawn on box art teases with a purple loincloth that was a wrapped textile like most real loincloths instead of the standard fur shorts, but now I can't find that art. Maybe I'm going crazy.
Despara needed new swords instead of dual-wielding Tri-Klops because in Origins the female buck (doe?) hand sculpt is smaller than the male, causing a lot of accessory swapping to stretch the plastic.
>>
>>11558026
I'm now imagining Screeech living a double life as a Horde spy robot bird by day, and a deam-like robopussy cult leader who seduces Tri-Klops by night.

Realistically, how many more characters do you think will get added to Origins before letting it die?

There are 11 more characters from vintage MotU to remake after the upcoming Dragstor:
Two Bad, Multi-Bot, Stonedar, Blast-Attak, Rotar, Twistoid, Saurod, Blade, Gwildor, Tytus and Megator.
A Mattel employee said "Filmation isn't over" when the 200X refresh was shown off at SDCC, so we can expect that subline to get Mattel Creations slots. And both will have to share slots with other things like Axel OCs (pic related).
I would guess at least 20 characters, not counting variants of existing characters (like Laser He-Man/Skeletor) before Mattel pulls the plug.

Yeah. She's Orko's sister who was jealous of him being Orko the Great, so she betrayed him and the planet Trolla to the Hordak during the Trolltimate Battleground and banished him to Eternia. She was made the Horde governor of Trolla until Orko got his powers back after being energized by the central tower and returned home to destroy her army of Dragoons to free the planet, at which point he depowered her by stealing her shadow, so she became the Shadow Weaver to steal other people's shadows and weave them into a replacement for her own

If it makes them a profit, the default is that they won't. But we don't know what kind of characters turn a profit: if Rio Blast sells no more units than Geldor despite needing new torso, hips, legs, forearms and backpack with moving parts, they might do a ton of OCs and existing deep cuts. If, to make up fake figures, there are only 11,000 Club Grayskull memberships so they made that many Sharellas yet some will take up warehouse space for a long time, they'll make fewer.

Howdy anons, colourist anon here. I made my own art for once. I know I'm not the first person to make this comparison, but I picked up the 2021 Eternia Mini figure yesterday and I love it, but I also cannot get the image of He-Man as a little gorilla dude, so I drew this and coloured it.

How come when the fandom asks for minicomic OCs, they're always from 1984 (OK, Procrustus from 83 got a Classics toy)?

How would you write a Powers of Grayskull series to make a compelling story?
Like if He-Ro is the protagonist, what do you do with King Grayskull?
>>
>>11559200
Probably because that year the minicomics expanded past the core cast with new characters. I'm guessing anyways.
>>11559206
The whole Preternia timeline doesn't seem that clear to me. Where does Wundar fit in? I could see He-Ro and Grayskul existing at the same time and being allies or something.
I always hesitate to post my story ideas here because Mattel is known for having sticky fingers with fan ideas.

>>
>>11559228
Hmm well how long is an eon anyways?

Anyways, in my headcannon / sensual fanfiction He-Ro and Wundar exist at the same time. He-Ro is kind of a Zap Brannagin type who takes credit for the heroism stealing Wundar's thunder.

He-Ro just has that look about him, you know. Like he's a temporary party member who can cast Lit 3 so he thinks he's the shit but there is no way he's got the stats to fight the final boss.

Importance
Geldor, Garn, Lodar and to a lesser extent Kex Queen were main characters in their comics.
Compare that to "nameless snake crowd fillers", "nameless pink rock lady", and "nameless yellow ape guy in Twistoids comic". They're all non-entities

Kek, we need a Scott AI to generate Classics Bios for every conceivable knick knack in Motu.

As for Moss Man, I dont hate that he's old enough to have seen it all. But elevating him to a god is a bit much. I like him as an old entity that is patient and calm because he's seen the ebb and flow of Eternian history.

There's a Grayskull Tower, so King Grayskull is the title of the man who owns it. No problem having him and He-Ro as allies.
One important thing I'd want is to avoid Central Tower becoming what one anon called "Super Grayskull", controlled by a good sorceress who keeps out bad guys and lets good guys use it as a base. Build the Snake Men/good guys conflict up to the good (and neutral?) wizards sinking the Three Towers because KIng Hiss has gotten too far in Central Tower for anything else to depower him. Maybe have King Grayskull go down in a heroic sacrifice since he won't have his house anymore?

Apparently we get Kinder Joy Masters of the Universe Funko figures next summer

I wonder if they will be based on cartoon funkos or movie? Kinder Joy did Funko Harry Potter, DC, Jurassic World and now Stranger Things.
>>
Problem 1: We have this King Grayskull character who was Boring He-Man in a 2003 cartoon episode, then He-Man's boring black ancestor in Valhalla in Revelation.
Problem 2: Mattel/Axel are trying to add a Skeletor lookalike to Preternia.

I propose a solution: King Grayskull was a black-skinned heroic enemy of the Snake Men who resorted to taking the power of evil as well as good to fight the Snake Men. A good magic-user killed him, but he continued to exist as a lich who goes by "the Great Black Wizard".

King Grayskull turning into the Great Black Wizard with the power of grayskull (essentially what Skeletor could become if he won) being defeated by He-Ro would be kino, considering how much shit Zodac puts He-Man through to test him in filmation.
This would also be another good "secret of grayskull."

I think that Skeletor is almost pretty good. It's held back too much by Masterverse's quirks. I like it okay but I'm a Skeletorfag. I think the line's problem in general is that it isn't executed well enough to convert people. Blame Revelation if you want, but it's really on Mattel being Mattel.

I got the MV Terror Claws Skeletor in today and it actually looks pretty awesome as a display piece; the details on the armor and the color choices are all stellar. As an action figure it still isn't all that fun to handle, though. Better than McFarlane probably but there's still Mattel's signature clumsiness about it. The line's improved but I'm a little surprised it's survived this long.

Where the fuck is the marketing team at Mattel?
In the 80s, when one of the guys would submit "Transparent Man" or "Black Widow Man" for approval, someone was there to say "no, these are Roboto and Webstor for release"

Today, Axel submits "uh...Great Black Wizard" and they just stamp it and roll with it...either that or im unfairly blaming Axel and he's just submitting designs and marketing themselves are coming up with this shit

That post actually say's he was an OC idea from someone named Sam Pak with contributions from Roy Juarez and Axel. So it wasn't his original design. That must be why I like him so much when Axel's other characters were all a pass for me. IMHO hopefully they let Sam and Roy work on any upcoming new OC's, not to mention any other designers working at Mattel. It would be nice to see someone other than Axel having the opportunity to contribute to new MOTU figures.
>>
>>11559868
>That post actually say's he was an OC idea from someone named Sam Pak with contributions from Roy Juarez and Axel. So it wasn't his original design.
>idea
Saying "how about a Scorpion dude for the Horde" isn't designing a figure.
90% of his Classics designs were Scott's ideas that he then fleshed out. Goldenrod was "build me C3PO from MOTU parts because I'm gay for C3PO." Pythonus is "what if Nepthu was a Snake?" Reptilax was a low detail sketch in one panel of a minicomic that he gave more detail. Mimeo was a Mark Taylor sketch for the concept that became Man-E-Faces.
And Roy has been doing art for Mattel for years. I'm sure I've seen anons cry about "Axel shit" that were actually done by Roy or Fetch.
I will always slag off shit like Red Shadow and GBW, but it's fucking tiring the way posters in this thread decide if it's bad, then Axel is to blame, but if it's good, then we should definitely downplay Axel's involvement.

>>
>>11559905
NTA, but I assumed what he meant it was "cancelled" in the same way vintage was "cancelled".
It's pulled off store shelves to make room for them rebranding the line again and making a new theme the main focus, and will probably end up dripfed irritatingly slow through MC because it has to fight vintage and MV for monthly release slots each year.
>>
>>11559868
>>11559904
The thing with Axel is, even when it's NOT wholly his idea, he talks like he's taking credit for it.
That post you guys reference, what's the first thing he says? "MY designs from Classics". You can't really blame people for pointing the finger at Axel when the man himself, even for a character that came from a minicomic like Reptilax, is lumping it in with "his" other creations.
And yeah, he'll acknowledge guys like Sam and Roy, but it will be an acknowledgement for ideas or suggestions, or saying they were instrumental in getting them in boxart, but he's not crediting them with designing the characters.

People conflate "designing" characters with "creating" characters. Someone gives him a piece of vintage or concept art and tells him "turn this into a figure with as few new molds as possible."
I'd say 90% of Axel's designs are based on vintage/concept art like Toxoid and Stretch Nek, but he is the one that decides what parts are going to be used, like in picrel. He didn't create the character, but this is his design for the action figure version.
And then there is shit like Golden Rod where Scott wanted him to make C3PO from MOTU parts. We know the idea for the figure was 100% Scott's, but he still designed it.

>>
>>11560026
Actually according to his backpacks Classic bio, its not a rocket but a tubular (in shape not awesomeness) carrying case for his "mongs" which are gumball sized portions of dried fly candy which is a delicacy on his home planet. The little nub on the top dispenses frog milk to wash it down with. He was thrown in the Grayskull prison after attempting pt trade with King Miro, who found the whole thing disgusting.
