Why is Playmobil always compared with Lego? They are totally different toys

It seems Asterix, Naruto, and Ladybug will be discontinued next year. We will get more Mattel IPs such as Monster High and Barbie instead.

Animals and Friends is also replacing Wiltopia, and a classic Knights theme will replace Novelmore.

Interesting, do we have set lists yet?

Get licenses such as Harry Potter, DC, Star Wars, Marvel or Lord of the Rings

I don't get why they didn't do it yet

I think we will get DC theme in the summer because of the Mattel deal, including for a fact the original superhero line Playmobil introduced this fall won't have sets first half and the kinder surprise collab. I think it's happening.

Probably

Nu-Playmobil is soulless; back in my day the sets were massive with lots of accessories and historical/real life themes. Now it is just tiny overpriced sets for listened slop. Horst Brandstätter would be ashamed.

Gonna post the more interesting stuff.

It seems Miraculous, Naruto and Asterix are cancelled.

Classic Castle and Animal and Friends also replaced Novelmore and Wiltopia.

Monster High continues

And Barbie is biggest for first half. With 3 licenses now gone, I'm very curious what the summer new licenses could be (DC and MotU?)

The space marine and alien bug-man would be a nice start to a new Space theme.

The autopsy man, at least he died happy.

The basketball player, of course he would be black. So racist!

Yeah, I wish they took some clues from their own Figures subline for other sublines. They did a single LOTR-ish orc a few years ago and I think impressions were very positive, but we haven't seen any sets to go with it.
The Mexican Día de Muertos couple from Figures was well received and then they made a couple sets expanding that. They should do that more often.

I read that stubby car toys/collector items in the vein of Funko Pops got popular lately and Playmobil wanted to try their own.
>>
>>11565882
Playmobil can never be as popular as LEGO because the core appeal of LEGO is incredibly powerful. Literally every single piece is modular and clicks into other pieces. Same for Mega and other blocks competitors. It is simply far more appealing than PM to most people.

nobody "builds" Lego anymore
that is, once the set is built, they don't take it apart to build their own thing:
--you spent hundreds of dollars! don't you dare take it apart!
--ugh, I'm too lazy to build my own thing
--this one looks amazing, there's no way mine will be that good anyway, why even try?

once the Lego is built, the "play experience" between Lego and Playmobil is very similar. you can take your Playmobil cowboy and put him in the space ship, and shoot at the dinosaurs. it's all very "Lego"-like.

I don't know what specific point I'm trying to make pointing that out. maybe just... Playmobil can still be relevant?

>What should Playmobil do to be more relevant, like Lego?
you want me to do a job for free? don't companies pay people a lot of money to know this kind of thing?

I've always thought of Playmobil as "Historic" so they should learn into the history sets, market it as "educational" and get the sets into classrooms. once the children get used to seeing it, they will become fans and hooked on it.

where do I go to get my paycheck?

Educational stuff doesn't sell because new gens are scared of education. Boomers are to blame for this, they didn't make it appealing

You can see those cars are 1 pieces. To compete with lego, make them 20 pieces. So its not like a lego build soort of put together, but you still assemble your playset.

I went to the toystore and all playmobil had was tiny sets with like 1 row boat, or 1 horse and 1 strawman.
Needs mid sized playsets like pirate cave or knights combat.
>>
>>11576033
I've always felt like Playmobil was best when it catered to roleplaying. Lego used to make roleplay a cornerstone of set design, but since they're currently salivating over the ever-lucrative adult collector demographic, they've abandoned this. Playmobil has the potential to fill this gap at least somewhat.
>>
>>11580409
it was amazing that Playmobil did customize features for the blind bag figure series

but I was equally confused as to why the regular set figures were still stuck together permanently. sure you can swap hair and hats, but for the most part you couldn't do anything else. why not make them all able to be re-combined?

so yeah, Playmobil might not be Lego, but customizing the figures goes a long way towards evening the playing field (was that a pun?)
