Regarding the anon asking about theme/wave ideas last thread, here's mine.
This would never happen because it's too adult of an IP for LEGO, but here's a Fallout rollout:

Polybag:
>Dogmeat and ED-E
Smallest set:
>Vault Emergence, a vault dweller and basic equipment, very rudimentary vault door and wasteland ground tiles, the implication being that this could be a level 1 character from a vault, in the same style of the Lone Wanderer or Sole Survivor from FO3 and FO4 respectively
Battle pack:
>Brotherhood VS Enclave Battle Pack, two T-45 Brotherhood paladins against APA Enclave infantry, + a tiny FO4 style yellow power armor repair station as the obligatory build
Small set:
>Sanctuary Showdown, this is sort of a modular build in the style of some of the Animal Crossing sets where how it's furnished is left to the builder, includes one Gen-2 synth, Preston Garvey, and Hancock
Vehicle set:
>Enclave Vertibird Repair, it's the vehicle + some small hangar items and repair stations, one APA Enclave soldier included
Medium set:
>The Cathedral, this set is sort of an amalgamation of a bunch of locations from the first Fallout game. The main build is a scaled down version of The Master's base, featuring The Master, two supermutants, one nameless ghoul, Set, and a Vault 13 resident, who can be flung or lowered by chain into the FEV tanks as a play feature
Large set:
>Skirmishes at The Mall, a decently detailed ruined section of the DC ruins + a little section of GNR (even though it doesn't make sense), featuring two supermutants, Three-Dog, a lone Brotherhood knight with a Fat Man launcher, and a supermutant behemoth
Mega set:
>Battle of Hoover Dam, draws inspiration from both canonical battles. The entire build is a scaled down version of Hoover Dam featuring artillery cannons, a central dam tower, explosion play features (sort of a homage to Boulder City) and minifigures for Caesar, the Malpais Legate, Legate Lanius, two NCR troopers, and two Legion veterans

I just got my first ever set with paper bags instead of plastic. What did I think of them?
>>
>>11582342
Bad because tiny little pieces get stuck at the corners and when you feel them it just feels like the paper corners and you can't verify with your eyes because unlike plastic the paper is opaque
>>
>>11581773
Nice idea, however there is a howler.
>Gen-2 synth
Why a generic synth over Nick Valentine?
Nobody likes the Institute and nobody is clamouring for synths. If people want to make synths they'll just get a bunch of 10 cent SW battle droids and replace the heads.

>>
>>11582342
They look nice and more "premium" than the plastic ones, also feel nice to touch and open. However they do fuck all for the environment because they aren't actually recycelable and still have plastic on the inside.
>>
>>11582639
idgaf about the environmental impact of lego plastic, but the paper bags are nice because they're easy to rip open and throw away. With the plastic bags they have static cling and end up sticking to everything and are just a pain in the ass to collect and discard.
>>

i need a dedicated table to play with my lego and a shelving unit to store it too. is there a setup that you guys have where you have shelving units and doors to protect your sets from most of the dust inbetween playing with them
>>
>>11582815
I rotate mine, the smaller sets I completely disassemble and store with the instructions in a bag/bags. The bigger ones I keep hole but use massive plastic bags and store them in storage bins.

It's "desirable" because it's out of production and Star Wars autists will pay whatever you ask of them for rare SW merch, but it's still bland and ugly, partly because the original design is bland and ugly (and retarded as a concept to begin with), and partly because it's not a well done version of the original design. It's just a slab.

I kinda developed a new addiction of seeing a fun moc that has no public or premium-only instructions, and try to reverse engineer how it probably works (or even improve them if I see them using very outdated or very hard to come-by parts or illegal building techniques)

today I made TheBoostedBrick's "V8 Hot Rod" which is a 2 seater- speed-champion style rebuild of the official "Blue Fury" Hot Rod of Lego.

that Viking set is amazing
but only FOUR vikings?
argh Lego, c'mon! WTF why are you so stingy with the minifigs?

it's not like you expect kids to have already bought several city sets, and you know the kids have plenty of figures to fill out the set. those are VIKINGS and you can't get more of them in other sets. either make more Vikings sets, or include more than 4 freaking figures in a $130 set!!!

>>
>>11582639
I was so disappointed when I learned theyโ€™re just plastic bags with a paper disguise on them. Arguably worse than just plastic because now you have to make paper, which uses a ton of water and energy, in addition to making plastic.

at least the CMF boxes are actual paper, right?

by the way, what ever happened to plastic=good?
like, too much paper means we cut down too many trees? and no trees is bad for the air, and bad for the en-vi-ron-ment?

McDonald's gives me a plastic cup with a heavy amount of plastic, yet they give me a lame paper straw that sucks (that is, the paper straw cannot suck, functionally) the straw is a tiny fraction of the amount of plastic in the dang cup! argh!

What do you guys think of these changes? Improvements or nah?
-added extra clip to exhaust connection because by my experience that handle-bar piece often has no friction and would make the exhaust flop around
-smoothed down the chassis part between the engine and the windshield
-moved the front grill 1 brick forward because it felt off being so back
-replaced black front bumper bar light-bluish-grey

Thanks, I have been using it for a few years now.
I used to use LDD in highschool before it was discontinued, so it wasn't so hard to get used to stud.io. Though it a lot more fidgety with pieces really not wanting to snap to the place i want them to. But I think what helps me getting over the occasional frustration, is that I can see it in my head what I plan to build in real life.

Having experience with physical lego is really important to use the programs like this right. I recently built a spaceship with swinging wings, think it will be nice and weight-controlled, but I didn't add enough friction to the gear system and irl the wings just flopped between open and closed positions. It took 4 re-designs for it to finally be doing what I wanted it to.

So the challenge in using the program really is more about knowing that "just because this seems to work in a simulation, doesn't mean that the real bricks will behave this way". Clutch power, enough attachment points, the weight of each piece, friction and balance everything has to be kept in mind that the program doesn't tell you to, which is a challenge I somewhat enjoy.

In any case, did a small little final modification to remove the gap between the headlights and the front bumper/mudguard part.

it's going to be a tough job for the package team
they have to convince people: children, parents, "adult Lego fans" that these are worth the high prices. all on the box. Lego doesn't do commercials and has zero experience with social media modern advertising, so the package is all you get! most people will pick it up and go "What?! they want $60 for THIS tiny thing?!!"

that electric brick has to be absolute magic (and I fear it won't be, but in fairness, I'm going to wait until I see it)

my expectations are low. low-low. super low.

From what we know not all smart bricks sets will have a smart brick in them but they will be smart brick compatible, no idea if the sets without a smart brick will be cheaper or not. I'd like to think it's fake also but there are clues:

--it's based purely on the requirement to include the 2x4 Poop Noise Brick in the middle of it. which limits the design aesthetics (sooo... "best they could do" situation?)
--kinda looks similar to the similarly-lame Mario Bling Noise figure, which Lego approved and thus Lego is not bothered by the lame-ness
--the X-Wing in the background makes it look more like a legit promotion page for the Poop Noise Brick, which is also shown highlighted

if it IS fake, another great job to the fake-leak person. you got us! lol extra hard for all this rage you produced! it must be so fun for you! seriously though, you DID do a lot of work on that picture, so you kinda earned it. Legit. it's good enough to look like it might be what Lego really did.

the paper straw is alright, for about 8 minutes.

you know how you have to poke it through the lid, through the cross-cut spot? well, those plastic triangles start to cut into the straw as it gets soft, and very soon it's either pinched-off or gets a hole in it.

and forget the milkshake. the paper straw lacks the structural capacity to withstand the sucking. you either have to wait until the shake is melted or toss it and get a spoon. the paper straw literally collapses under that amount of pressure. it's almost like a prank, trying to watch someone drink a shake in a paper straw: where's the hidden camera at?

and there's my blog post about paper straws, in this thread about Legos, I guess.

movie called Batman & Robin = just Batman!
no Superman?
no Robin?

the new Lego rule!
every set needs -1 minifig
why is the new rule a thing? nobody knows!
but every set should have one more minifig, the boss says we gotta subtract one.
previous $30 Batmobile set had a Joker? nope! remember the new rule! -1!

why did we need a new Battison Batmobile? this wasn't that long ago, was it? (also, -1 Penguin in the new one)

stretch it out. develop a sense of patience about it. and don't feel bad if nobody responds at all, or as quickly as you'd hope.

I have a problem with the one piss Going Merry set.
I like it...but why doesn't it have a visible keel? It feels like a complete oversight

For those unfamiliar, it's eventually a big plot point that the ship's keel is fucked up beyond repair. This is how the Going Merry ultimately dies.
There is nothing they can do because if the keel is destroyed the ship is essentially on borrowed time before it just completely falls apart.

So where the fuck is it? I get it, it makes way more sense to have a flat blank bottom as a display piece or even a play piece...but this is one of the few times it actually fucking matters. At least a thin plate underneath if you're going to make it flat. Maybe it's because it's based on the live action and they probably won't get to that arc. Yet for Lego which loooves it's stupid fucking easter eggs they couldn't include a simple nod to one of the most important parts of the ship? LAME

spoiler alert much?
nobody knows that, we only saw the Netflix show

I highly doubt that the Lego boss said
"okay designers, we have this new property based on this Netflix show, so everybody has to watch the 8 episodes. PLUS the 1145 episodes of the anime. and make sure you read all of the 113 manga books. so let's get back to this on Monday and get everybody's thoughts on what sets we need to make."

It just gives Lego a chance to make another version of the ship to sell you again, later. so you'll wind up with several of them

To be fair, at the pace Netflix One Piece is going, it's going to be extremely truncated or end sooner than the 4kids dub.
There's over 1000 episodes, I don't have time to watch all that.
>It just gives Lego a chance to make another version of the ship to sell you again, later. so you'll wind up with several of them
I wouldn't be surprised that they go the Star Wars route and we get "Luffy's Damaged Pirate Shipโ„ข" in a few years time.

I wish Lego would lose their trademark on minifigs so that the competition could really push harder. Though while these are better than Lego, i still think that most of them are too large, we need small to medium sets again.
>>11583952

>>
>>11586826
>>11586827
At the risk of sounding like a fence sitter, I don't like it when Lego swings too hard in either direction. Some of the older sets had that fun, Lego charm but too many studs can make things look like cheap kids toys. And although I lean a bit more towards the modern style, I will admit that they do look like soulless and generic models when they try too hard to hide studs.

>I wish Lego would lose their trademark on minifigs
I'm also curious
if some other company could legit put a copy of a Lego Minifig on a Target and Walmart store shelf, would the people still reject it? it's "not Lego" but... at what point is it "close enough"?
>>
>>11587698
I agree. Without any tile/detail pieces, a set can look like a really rough pile of bricks. When it's all tiled off, it just looks uncanny, like why even bother using legos to build a model if you don't want it to look anything like lego.
Sweet spot is somewhere in the middle

>just dump a hundred hours into a showโ€ฆ then itโ€™ll start getting interesting

Opinion on half plate filling half-tile?

We all had our moc-ing problem of buidling something and finding a half-plate wide gap that just can't be filled nicely. So you either live with the visual gap or completely redesign the build and find a gap-less connection.

I understand half-plates would be too fragile to produce, Lego already has a problem of 1x1 round plates and cheese slopes cracking because their wall is too thin.

But what if we would have a piece that wouldn't be stressed, that's entire purpose is nothing but filling in visual gaps?

I thought maybe we could have a piece similar to the Minifigure Neck Bracket, but just the top part. I would call this piece a half-tile. It basically turns a regular stud into a tile (not counting the lego logo)

Would you welcome a piece like this or do you think its dumb and has too few uses?

And maybe lego should instead just make a 1,5 plate high modified plate, the same way for some reason they made a 2 plate high modified brick.

>>11587948
my vote is for the slightly-taller brick. it seems a lot more reasonable than a thin wafer kids would swallow if they breathed funny around it

Lego probably thinks a slightly taller brick would be "confusing" and lead to people breaking models trying to press things together that now won't fit, if one part is unknowingly a tiny bit taller

so the new slightly-taller brick would need a hollow stud on top? maybe even a hole going through it? (which could be useful in other ways?) or something to visually identify it as different than the regular 1x1 brick

It doesnโ€™t matter at this point.
>one technique would be to post content that appears genuine but makes it un interesting and unusable
>>
>>11588373
Makes sense, yeah the "wafer do small you could inhale it by accident" was something that concerned me too.

And I agree that the brick should have more utility than being a purely visual gap filler.

The 3 and a half plate (7 LU) high brick might be a bit too tall for the original purpose though of filling gaps in small compact builds.

Maybe a the smae way there are normal 1x1 round plates and hollow 1x1 round plates its time to get a 1x1 hollow stuf rectangular plate thats also 1 and a half plate high?

I hope we will see "kids oriented" sets eventually. If not - there won't be anything interesting to me. These +18-priced black boxes for afols are my least favorite thing in Lego and i would never want pokemon in this style.

Sonic is a perfect example of sets that both-adults and kids love. +18 is those sets people post on reddit as black boxes they probably are not going to open because it's "an investment". I already see scalpers calculating profits before these sets even released.

Harry Potter is another good example - lots of fun stuf + afol stuff. I will be glad if Lego will go this route making all kinds of sets for everybody from holiday calendars, minifigure magazines and polybags to "adult" products. Pokemon cards hobby is already kinda stressful these days. At least make lego look fun, come on!

>Singlehandedly killed off Banjo and Kazooie
Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts for the Xbox was the jam

it did the same vehicle-building that Zelda Tears of the Kingdom did, but 10x better and 15 years earlier. it's literally the same thing Zelda Breath of the Wild did, same game but added vehicles, oh but BJ had all new levels not copy-paste the same map & add vehicles like Zelda did

Xbox also released an enhanced Conker game that used a couple ideas they wanted to put in the sequel, but instead just updated a couple of the levels instead and added a multiplayer mode. I also would like a proper Conker sequel at some point (if that could be possible somehow)
>>
>>11596848
I loved that game, but I think it filtered a lot of banjo fans cause of the focus on building vehicles.

Rivendell was the beginning of the end for many things. it proved it was a viable business strategy to make ONE FREAK-LARGE set instead of many smaller sets

they did it to Zelda, D&D, and soon Star Trek.
it's the end of multiple set "themes"

be happy you get a set. nobody cares if you can't afford it. enough of the population can, and will, continue to let this happen

"themes" are now for City, Ninjago, Friends, and um... something wacky like Dreamzzzz. and Mario and Minecraft if you want to count those. I guess One Piece got a "theme"? that counts, right?
>>
Everyone in Ninjago has a bike, everyone in Ninjago has a mech, and some even have a bike that turns into a mech. Just something funny I noticed.

But Anon, Lego WILL discontinue Star Wars and replace it with the 1970s British scifi series Blake's 7. Kids don't like Star Wars anymore, it's only natural Blake's 7 will take its place.
>>
I was surprised to learn that Sora's Transforming Mech Bike Racer 71792 came out in 2023 and Sora's Elemental Tech Mech 71807 came out in 2024. I'd always just assumed the mech bike was an obvious upgrade in terms of mechanics and design. That's really bleak.

it was always the crazy huge builds that got the 10,000 up-doots

>They release a new set that looks slightly better but no blue flame pieces and no Penguin

>>11586050
>Boughted the '66 Westmobile way back and only recently opened it

The current Tumbler is a really great build and Im surprised that it comes with both Two Face and Heath Joker and the fig faces look great. Have the '89 and that one is decent, but it's nice having a Nicholson Joker. I also like how some of the batman sets have dual molded masks now, so the eyes are white plastic. Always thought it was off-putting how the figure heads always has that white "bandana" print to simulate cowl eyes. Haven't checked the minifig for the new Pattison set but the original one also came with a Bruce Wayne head and it sucks that it doesn't have the black eye paint like the movie. When Batman v Superman came out I think they only released the little Bat Armor set with the bat signal. Was kinda bummed we never saw the Batfleck mobile but I'm glad it's finally real.

I just opened up set 60430 and I gotta say, I really hate this method of connecting two large pieces with technic pins. They could have given me smaller pieces to build the same thing and given it proper engineering so that each piece had several points of contact keeping it together. Best I can say is it's better than nothing.
>>
>>11599724
I don't get your point. You hate Lego?
>>
New thread?

>>11599763
Nah. Later on in the build it gets a lot more secure, so the pins were a fine remedy for the parts not staying together.

I bought Harry Potter 76413 and 76402 at a thrift store for 20 dollars each, except I didn't know it came without any minifigs and there were five pieces missing. Fuck.
